Abstract: Using the CLEO detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have searched for two-photon production of charmonium in four-track final states. We have measured Γγγ(ηc)=5.9+2.1-1.8±1.9 keV, and we have obtained 95% CL upper limits of Γγγ(Xc0)

Abstract: Using the CLEO detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have found evidence for L=1 charmed mesons in e+e- annihilations. We observe a D**0 state at mass 2461±3±1 MeV/c2 and width 20-12-10+9+9 MeV/c2 decaying to D+-. We also see an enhancement in the m(D*+-)-m(D*+) mass-difference spectrum and by examining D*+ decay-angle dependence, we see structure consistent with two states decaying to D*+-. We observe a lower-mass state, at mass (2428±3±2) MeV/c2 and width (23-6-4+8+10) MeV/c2, assuming that the higher-mass component is from the decay D**0(2461)D*+-. We present arguments for the spin-parity assignments of these states. We also report observation of candidate L=1 cs» state decaying to D*+Ks0. © 1990 The American Physical Society.

6. Using crowdsourced data to estimate the carbon footprints of global cities

Abstract: Cities are at the forefront of the battle against climate change. However, intercity comparisons and responsibility allocations among cities are hindered because cost- and time-effective methods to calculate the carbon footprints of global cities have yet to be developed. Here, we establish a hybrid method integrating top-down input–output analysis and bottom-up crowdsourced data to estimate the carbon footprints of global cities. Using city purchasing power as the main predictor of the carbon footprint, we estimate the carbon footprints of 465 global cities in 2020. Those cities comprise 10% of the global population but account for 18% of the global carbon emissions showing a significant concentration of carbon emissions. The Gini coefficients are applied to show that global carbon inequality is less than income inequality. In addition, the increased carbon emissions that come from high consumption lifestyles offset the carbon reduction by efficiency gains that could result from compact city design and large city scale. Large climate benefits could be obtained by achieving a low-carbon transition in a small number of global cities, emphasizing the need for leadership from globally important urban centres.

Abstract: Using the CLEO detector, we have measured the branching ratios for the exclusive decays of the Ds+ meson into K*0K+, K0K+, and K*+K0 relative to the decay Ds+→φπ+ to be close to unity. We have also measured the mass diference between the Ds+ and D+ meson to be 98.5±1.5 MeV/c2. © 1989.

Abstract: Using the CLEO detector, we present a measurement of the mass of the charged charmed strange baryon Ξ+c and its neutral counterpart the Ξ0c. The Ξ+c is observed through its decay to Ξ-π+π+, and its mass is measured to be (2467±3±4) MeV. The isospin mass splitting of the Ξc system is found to be M(Ξ+c)-M(Ξ0c)=(-5±4±1)MeV. © 1989.

Abstract: We have measured upper limits on branching fractions for rare exclusive decays of B mesons arising from one-loop diagrams in the standard model of electroweak interactions. We also obtain an upper limit for the lepton-number-violating decay B0→μ±e∓. © 1989.

Abstract: Using a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 3.9 fb collected in e e annihilation with the CLEO-II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have measured the branching ratios for the decay modes D → (η,η′)π and D →(η,η′)ρ relative to D → φπ . These decay modes are among the most common hadronic decays of the D , and can be related by factorization to the semileptonic decays D →(η,η′)ℓ ν . The results obtained are compared with previous CLEO results and with the branching ratios measured for the related semileptonic decays. We also report results on the Cabibbo-suppressed decays of the D to the same final states.

Abstract: The decays Y(4S) → ̄BB, followed by B → D* π and D* → Dπ, permit reconstruction of all kinematic quantities that describe the sequence without reconstruction of the D. with reasonably low backgrounds. Using an integrated e+ e- luminosity of 3.1 fb-1 accumulated at the Y(4S) by the CLEO-II detector, we report measurements of B(̄0B → D*+ π-) = (2.81 ± 0.11 ± 0.21 ± 0.05) × 10-3 and B(B → D*0 π) = (4.34 ± 0.33 ± 0.34 ± 0.18) × 10-3.

Abstract: Using the CLEO detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have made a measurement of R ≡ σ(e + e-→hadrons)/σ(e + e-→μ + μ -) = 3.56±0.01±0.07 at √s = 10.52 GeV. This implies a value for the strong coupling constant of αs(10.52 GeV) = 0.20±0.01 ±0.06, or αs(MZ) = 0.13±0.005±0.03.

Abstract: Using data taken with the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we present the first full angular analysis in the color-suppressed modes B0 → J/ψ K*0 and B+ → J/ψ K*+. This leads to a complete determination of the decay amplitudes of these modes including the longitudinal polarization TL/Γ = 0.52 ± 0.07 ± 0.04 and the P wave component |P|2 = 0.16 ± 0.08 ± 0.04. In addition, we update the branching fractions for B → J/ψ K and B → J/ψ K*.

Abstract: Using data collected in the region of the Y(4S) resonance with the CLEO II detector operating at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR), we present the first observation of B mesons decaying into the charmed strange baryons Ξc0 and Ξc+. We find 79 ± 27 Ξc0 and 125 ± 28 Ξc+ candidates from B decays, leading to product branching fractions of ℬ(B̄ → Ξc0X)ℬ(Ξc0 → Ξ-π+ = (0.144 ± 0.048 ± 0.021) × 10-3 and ℬ(B̄ → Ξc+X)ℬ(ΞC+ → Ξ-π+π+) = (0.453 ± 0.096- 0.065+ 0.085) × 10-3.

Abstract: We report new measurements of the differential and total branching ratios for inclusive B decay to D0, D+, and D*+ and the first measurement of the same quantities for inclusive B decay to D*0. Here B is the mixture of Bd and Ba from Y(4S) decay. Furthermore, since more than one charm particle (or antiparticle) of the same kind can be produced in B decay, here "inclusive B branching ratio" is used to mean the average number of charm particles and their antiparticles of a certain species produced in B decay. We obtain the following results (the first error is statistical, the second systematic of this analysis, the third propagated from other measurements): B(B→D0X) = (0.636±0.014±0.019±0.018), B(B→D+X) = (0.235±0.009±0.009 ±0.024), B(B→D*0X) = (0.247±0.012±0.018±0.018), B(B→D*+X) = (0.239±0.011±0.014±0.009). The following ratio of branching ratios is not affected by most of the systematic errors: B(B→D*0X)/B(B→D*+X) = (1.03±0.07±0.09±0.08). We also report the first measurement of the momentum-dependent D*0 polarization and a new measurement of the D*+ polarization in inclusive B decay. Using these measurements and other CLEO results and making some additional assumptions, we calculate the average number of c and c̄ quarks produced in B decay to be 〈nc〉= 1.10±0.05.

Abstract: Using e+e- annihilation data collected by the CLEO II detector at CESR, we have observed the decay Ds+ → ωπ+. This final state may be produced through the annihilation decay of the Ds+, or through final state interactions. We find a branching ratio of Γ(Ds+ → ωπ+)/Γ(Ds+ → ηπ+) = 0.16 ± 0.04 ± 0.03, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic.

Abstract: We have searched for lepton flavor violating decays of the τ lepton with one or two KS 0 mesons in the final state. The data used in the search were collected with the CLEO II and II.V detectors at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR) and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 13.9 fb-1 at the Y (4S) resonance. No evidence for signals were found; therefore, we have set 90% confidence level (C.L.) upper limits on the branching fractions Β(τ- → e- K S 0)

Abstract: Using data collected with the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we present new measurements of the branching fractions for D+ → KS 0K+ and D+ → KS 0π+. These results are combined with other CLEO measurements to extract the ratios of isospin amplitudes and phase shifts for D → KK and D → Kπ.

Abstract: We have searched for neutrinoless decays into three charged particles. Evidence of such decays would demonstrate nonconservation of lepton flavor and, in some cases, lepton number. We see no signal for any such neutrinoless decays and set upper limits on their branching fractions. © 1990 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: Using the CLEO detector, we have measured the branching ratios for the exclusive decays of the Ds+ meson into K*0K+, K0K+, and K*+K0 relative to the decay Ds+→φπ+ to be close to unity. We have also measured the mass diference between the Ds+ and D+ meson to be 98.5±1.5 MeV/c2. © 1989.

Abstract: Over the past decade, China has entered a “new normal” phase in economic development, with its role in global trade flows changing significantly. This study estimates the driving forces of Chinese export‐embodied carbon emissions in the new normal phase, based on environmentally extended multiregional input‐output modeling and structural decomposition analysis. We find that Chinese export‐embodied CO2 emissions peaked in 2008 at a level of 1,657 million tones. The subsequent decline in CO2 emissions was mainly due to the changing structure of Chinese production. The peak in Chinese export‐embodied emissions is encouraging from the perspective of global climate change mitigation, as it implies downward pressure on global CO2 emissions. However, more attention should focus on ensuring that countries that may partly replace China as major production bases increase their exports using low‐carbon inputs.
