Abstract

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major threat to global health. Understanding the emergence, evolution, and transmission of individual antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) is essential to develop sustainable strategies combatting this threat. Here, we use metagenomic sequencing to analyse ARGs in 757 sewage samples from 243 cities in 101 countries, collected from 2016 to 2019. We find regional patterns in resistomes, and these differ between subsets corresponding to drug classes and are partly driven by taxonomic variation. The genetic environments of 49 common ARGs are highly diverse, with most common ARGs carried by multiple distinct genomic contexts globally and sometimes on plasmids. Analysis of flanking sequence revealed ARG-specific patterns of dispersal limitation and global transmission. Our data furthermore suggest certain geographies are more prone to transmission events and should receive additional attention. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major threat to global health. Abstract

Background The global burden of pediatric severe respiratory illness is substantial, and influenza viruses contribute to this burden. Systematic surveillance and testing for influenza among hospitalized children has expanded globally over the past decade. However, only a fraction of the data has been used to estimate influenza burden. In this analysis, we use surveillance data to provide an estimate of influenza-associated hospitalizations among children worldwide. Methods and Findings We aggregated data from a systematic review (n = 108) and surveillance platforms (n = 37) to calculate a pooled estimate of the proportion of samples collected from children hospitalized with respiratory illnesses and positive for influenza by age group ( Influenza was associated with 10% (95% CI 8%-11%) of respiratory hospitalizations in children Conclusions Influenza is an important contributor to respiratory hospitalizations among young children worldwide. Abstract

Replacing worn or damaged parts implies high material costs and financial expense for public tram transportation services, especially for the imported units and that is why it is preferable to recondition them, taking into consideration the safety requirements. In this paper, ISIM initiatives and achievements are presented in the field of cost reduction and maintenance during operation of trams, by introduction in the operation process of worn parts, within the safety limits. Aspects are presented regarding the possibilities for reconditioning and repair of parts with a circular geometry (e.g. wheel bands, axles, drum brakes). Some of these are being applied and implemented. Also, innovative ideas are presented for increasing the performance of equipment used for reconditioning.

Abstract

Alongside airplane and airport pavement structure materials evolution, modification and development of designing methods are needed. This paper presents the design scheme and parameters which occur in the designing process, as well as possible completions of the romanian NP 034-99 method. One completion is the enlargement of the values range of both the E dynamic elasticity modulus, and the Poisson’s ? coefficient. The importance of these design parameters is highlighted by the results of the computer simulation with the help of ANSYS11 calculation software for a classical rigid airport pavement structure. The significant difference of tensile values for different values of the parameters confirms the need to increase the precision of the design diagrams. One of the necessary completion is the introduction in the designing method of loads from the complex landing gear airplanes, such as Airbus-A380 or Boeing-B777 type.
