Background/Context: Within critical research broadly, scholars increasingly turn to stories and storytelling to pursue equity in educational contexts. Such scholarship does, however, primarily focus on the composition or creation of stories. Expanding the scope of storytelling research, this article turns to queer and trans knowledges to highlight a parallel set of storytelling practices--de-composing practices--and demonstrates their impact on historically marginalized community narratives and the pursuit of equity and justice in the field of education. Purpose/Objective/Research Question or Focus of Study: As critical calls for storying, counter-storytelling, and restorying increase within critical research in education, this article theorizes a parallel literacy practice, de-storying, as part of a set of de-composing practices. Defined as the habitual and often subconscious unimagining of community narratives in alignment with dominant narratives, de-storying shows how certain stories of marginalized communities come to be consistently unimagined. This article focuses particularly on queer community narratives and de-storying's impact in the form of unimagined ancestors, elders, guardians, and peers. Research Design: A narrative inquiry project, this research study shares data from an inquiry community of nine queer educators. Gathering together 13 times over the course of an academic year, these educators engaged in a structured restorying process and through speculative storytelling reimagined and rewrote narrativized experiences of queerphobia. In particular, small stories demonstrated how de-storying affected these educators' storytelling practices and, furthermore, revealed that three dominant community narratives (i.e., heteronormativity, queer fatalism, and homonormativity) compressed the potential small stories these educators told. Conclusions/Recommendations: Findings from this project illustrate how de-storying practices resulted in four unimagined community narratives across participants: missing queer ancestors, elders, guardians, and peers. De-storying occurred across various intersections of participants' identities. Findings from this study advance critical approaches to storytelling by revealing de-storying as one of many potential de-composing practices. This article concludes by inviting the theorization of additional de-composing practices in order to center the most marginalized stories within education--namely, those that are actively unimagined.

Background: Scholarship demonstrates that Black girls' capacities to imagine possible futures in computing are constrained by narratives of white masculinity and misogynoir embedded within computing. Building on race critical code studies and identity-as-narrative theories, we examine "restorying" through Black womanist storytelling methodologies for integrating Black girls' intersectional identities when designing and reimagining their computing futures. We ask: How might womanist storytelling methods support one Black girl in restorying possible computing futures? Methods: We present a case focused on one study participant, Heather's, restorying practices situated within a larger workshop wherein marginalized youth reimagined dominant narratives about computer science (CS). This was by creating interactive quilt patches using paper circuits and microcontrollers that challenged dominant narratives of white masculinity and misogynoir normalized throughout the field. Findings: We see that restorying through womanist storytelling methods allowed Heather to (1) deconstruct narratives of white masculinity and misogynoir throughout CS education by centering Black women's ways of knowing and doing, and (2) restory the past to enact possible CS futures and identities through computing. through Contribution: In the discussion, we address challenges and successes with integrating Black girls' experiences with speculative methodologies in learning sciences research.

This invited paper highlights the reflections of expert panelists who were spontaneously called upon, graciously accepted, and quickly organized to respond thoughtfully and compellingly to Dr. Arlette Willis' powerful and timely Oscar Causey address at the 2022 Literacy Research Association (LRA) annual conference. In her address, Dr. Willis issued a clarion call for a Transcendent Approach to Literacy (TAL) to a space where "We re-create literacy as an equitable and moral construct" (Willis, 2023, p. 133). This paper comprises Dr. Alfred Tatum's comprehensive introduction, the cogent reflections on TAL by panelists Dr. Josh Coleman, Dr. Marcus Croom, Dr. Matthew Deroo, Dr. Michiko Hikida, Dr. Emily Machado, Dr. Patriann Smith, Dr. Chad Waldron, and Dr. Rahat Zaidi, and Dr. Willis' eloquent epilogue. In her epilogue, she provides not an ending but the genesis of a movement forward for the LRA community to "be brave" and actively and genuinely engage in a TAL that "democratizes literacy, declaring literacy belongs to all."

Background: African American women are at a disproportionate HIV risk compared with other U.S. women. Studies show that complex structural and social determinants, rather than individual behaviors, place African American women at greater risk of HIV infection; however, little is known about women's views of what puts them at risk. Aims: This study sought to comprehend the perceptions of African American women living in low-income housing regarding the factors that influence both their personal sexual health behaviors and use of HIV prevention services. Methods: We conducted seven focus groups with 48 African American women from 10 public housing communities in a small city in the southeastern United States. We analyzed the focus group transcripts using thematic data analysis to identify salient themes and points of interest related to the study aim. Results: Women identified factors related to the health care system (trustworthiness of the health care system), the external environment (racism, classism, patriarchal structures, and violence/crime), as well as predisposing (health beliefs, stigma, and gender norms), enabling (agency to negotiate gendered power), and need (perceived HIV risk and perceptions of partner characteristics) features of individuals in the population. Conclusion: African American women living in public housing are especially vulnerable to HIV infection due to intersectional discrimination based on racism, classism, gender power dynamics, and community conditions. Our findings confirm the need to develop HIV intervention programming addressing intersectional identities of those making up the communities they plan to address, and being informed by those living in the communities they plan to act on.

Comprised of seven intergenerational dialogues, this article brings together emerging and established scholars to query into the future of queer literacy research. Addressing generational shifts in queer method(ologie)s, these dialogues advance epistemological, ontological, and ethical research quandaries related to queer and trans studies today. Holding implications for literacy research broadly, this article presents queer futurity as a research approach for addressing some of our field's most pressing concerns.
