A smartphone-assisted microchemistry analyzer with an image-based colorimetric assay using ImageJ and a smartphone app detection method was successfully developed for the quantitative detection of melamine (MEL). The color changes of the MEL in the colloidal gold lateral flow immunoassay strip were captured and analyzed using a smartphone-controlled analyzer with an LED light source and a smartphone camera. The smartphone camera and light source were used to read the colorimetric signal from the strip, and a smartphone app was written and installed onto the smartphone. The quantitative analysis was validated with ImageJ and smartphone app colorimetric analysis. The limits of detection (LODs) for ImageJ and the smartphone app were calculated as 0.30 and 0.07 mg/L, respectively. The highly quantitative relationships between the MEL concentrations and the optical density and gray value of the ImageJ and smartphone app detection method. Bandpass photodetectors have tremendous applications in colorimetric analysis, light communication, imaging and machine vision systems. Compared to broadband photodetectors combined with external optical filters, solution‐processed filterless bandpass photodetectors enjoy high integration density and low cost, but suffer from broadened response edges and insufficient spectral rejection ratios (SRRs). Here, prototype filterless bandpass photodetectors with near square‐shape photoresponse are developed based on (CmH2m+1NH3)2PbI4/MAPbI3 (m = 4–8) and (CmH2m+1NH3)2PbBr4/MAPbBr3 (m = 2–8) perovskite heterojunctions. The strong and sharp excitonic absorption of 2D perovskites defines the ultranarrow response onset widths of 10 ± 1 nm. Besides, the strong photoluminescence (PL) self‐absorption of 2D perovskites suppresses the PL leakage from the front absorber to the back photoactive region, which is crucial to the achieved record high SRR of >2000. By integrating Br‐based 2D/3D perovskite photodetectors with onset edge wavelength discrimination of ≈20 nm, a multiple‐channel optical communication system with low spectral crosstalk is demonstrated. A simple method has been developed for semi-quantitative analysis of the colorimetric output of loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) using a 3D-printed tube holder with a smartphone and notebook for the detection of Raillietina, which is the cause of Raillietiniasis affecting free-range chicken farming. In this method, a light is directed from a notebook screen to the LAMP products in the tube holder and the color absorption of the LAMP products is measured by using the appropriate smartphone application. It was found that the malachite green dye-coupled LAMP (MaG-LAMP) assay showed the highest sensitivity and specificity for detecting Raillietina without any cross-reaction with other related parasites and hosts. The limit of detection was 10 fg/μL of DNA. A total of 60 fecal samples were infectively confirmed by microscopic examination and the results of microscopy compared with those of MaG-LAMP and triplex PCR assays. Microscopy and MaG-LAMP based on the color absorption demonstrated high agreement in Raillietina detection with kappa = 1. Rapid, simple, cost-effective, and easy interpretation of colorimetric LAMP assays and their high sensitivity make them superior to PCR and morphological investigation, demonstrating the feasibility of this assay in point-of-care screening to support farm management and solve chicken health problems. Our study presents is an alternative diagnostic method using semi-quantitative analysis of colorimetric LAMP based on the differing solution color absorptions between positive and negative reactions for infectious disease diagnosis. To formulate an experimental methacrylate-based photo-polymerizable resin for 3D printing with ytterbium trifluoride as filler and to evaluate the mechanical, physicochemical, and biological properties. Resin matrix was formulated with 60 wt% UDMA, 40 wt% TEGDMA, 1 wt% TPO, and 0.01 wt% BHT. Ytterbium Trifluoride was added in concentrations of 1 (G 1 %), 2 (G 2 %), 3 (G 3 %), 4 (G 4 %), and 5 (G 5 %) wt%. One group remained without filler addition as control (G C). The samples were designed in 3D builder software and printed using a UV-DLP 3D printer. The samples were ultrasonicated with isopropanol and UV cured for 60 min. The resins were tested for degree of conversion (DC), flexural strength, Knoop microhardness, softening in solvent, radiopacity, colorimetric analysis, and cytotoxicity (MTT and SRB). Post-polymerization increased the degree of conversion of all groups (p < 0.05). G 2 % showed the highest DC after post-polymerization. G 2 % showed no differences in flexural strength from the G 1 % and G C (p > 0.05). All groups showed a hardness reduction after solvent immersion. No statistical difference was found in radiopacity, softening in solvent (ΔKHN%), colorimetric spectrophotometry, and cytotoxicity (MTT) (p > 0.05). G 1 % showed reduced cell viability for SRB assay (p < 0.05). It was possible to produce an experimental photo-polymerizable 3D printable resin with the addition of 2 % ytterbium trifluoride as filler without compromising the mechanical, physicochemical, and biological properties, comparable to the current provisional materials. • Ytterbium trifluoride was inserted up to 5 wt% to a 3D printing resin. • Inorganic fillers could be used as reinforcements 3D printing resin. • Ytterbium trifluoride as filler did not affect the properties of the experimental resin. In this study, we present the synthesis, characterization, and colorimetric analysis of Zn1-xCoxO nanopigments (x = 0.0: ZnO, x = 0.02: ZC2, x = 0.04: ZC4, x = 0.06: ZC6, and x = 0.08: ZC8), where cobalt (Co) is doped into the zinc oxide lattice. The nanopigments were synthesized using a gelatin-based sol-gel method, ensuring uniform incorporation of cobalt ions into the ZnO lattice. Structural characterization, including X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, showed minimal changes in the hexagonal structure of ZnO with the addition of cobalt impurities. Crystallite size analysis using the Size Strain Plot (SSP) method indicated an increase in crystal size with cobalt doping. UV–Vis spectroscopy confirmed the impact of cobalt on the absorption edge and reflectance spectra of the nanopigments. Colorimetric analysis revealed a shift towards green hues with increasing cobalt concentration, although the relationship between cobalt content and color intensity was nonlinear. These findings offer valuable insights into the synthesis, structural properties, optical behavior, and color characteristics of Co-doped ZnO nanopigments, highlighting their potential for various industrial applications. Sucrose is a desirable component of processed soybean foods and animal feed, and thus, its content is used as an important characteristic for assessing the quality of soybean seeds. However, few studies have focused on the quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated with sucrose regulation in soybean seeds. This study aims to measure the sucrose content of 1014 soybean accessions and identify genes related to high sucrose levels using QTL analysis. Colorimetric analysis based on the enzymatic reaction of invertase (INV) and glucose oxidase (GOD) was employed to test the germplasms. A total of six high-sucrose genetic resources (IT186230, IT195321, IT263138, IT263276, IT263286, and IT276521) and two low-sucrose genetic resources (IT025668 and IT274054) were identified. Two F2:3 populations, IT186230 × IT025668 and Ilmi × IT186230, were then established from these germplasms. QTL analysis identified four QTLs (qSUC6.1, qSUC11.1, qSUC15.1, and qSUC17.1), explaining 7.3–27.6% of the phenotypic variation in the sugar content. Twenty candidate genes were found at the four QTLs. Notably, Glyma.17G152300, located in the qSUC17.1 QTL region, exhibited a 17-fold higher gene expression in the high-sucrose germplasm IT186230 compared to the control germplasm Ilmi, confirming its role as a major gene regulating the sucrose content in soybean. Because of the complex composition of tungsten tailings and low tin content in the tailings, the traditional titration analysis method and colorimetric analysis method are easily interfered by tungsten, copper and other elements, resulting in unsatisfactory results. In this paper, sodium peroxide was used to melt tungsten tailings sample, water leaching, hydroxide precipitation separation of most of the interference elements, supernatant liquid acidification, atomic fluorescence spectrometry was used for determination, which solved the problem of insufficient sensitivity, eliminated the influence of coexisting tungsten, copper and other elements on the determination of tin, and established the accurate determination of tin in tungsten tailings by atonic fluorescence spectrometry. At the same time, the influences of sample treatment method, determination of solution acidity, thiourea-ascorbic acid mixed reducing agent and potassium borohydride concentration on the determination of tin by atonic fluorescence spectrometry were investigated, and the determination parameters of atomic fluorescence spectrometry were optimized. The relative standard deviation (RSD, n = 7) of the determination of tin was less than 5%. The tungsten ore composition analysis standard substance with tungsten content similar to that in tungsten tailings was used for method verification. The absolute value of the relative error was LESS than 5%, and the recovery rate was 94.5%-108%. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are a key regulator of physiological processes in pollen grains, and an essential component of stigma exudate. The mechanisms of this redox‐based regulatory system and its features in different plant groups are still unclear. For two species from different families (tobacco and lily), the dynamics of total ROS, O•2− generation, and H2O2 concentration in stigma exudate were examined using EPR spectroscopy and quantitative colorimetric analysis. Dynamics of all major enzymes of redox homeostasis were analysed using native electrophoresis and zymography for four stages of stigma development, before and after pollination. There were completely different patterns of ROS production and interconversion in the two species. In tobacco, the initially high level of ROS generation decreased before pollination but remained high. There was no CAT activity in fresh stigma tissues, which apparently contribute to the high level of H2O2. Lilium had peak O•2− generation at the fertile stage and high activity of H2O2‐reducing enzymes, including CAT, hence, H2O2 level remained relatively low. We suggest that Lilium pollen germination is largely controlled by the SOD radical, while in Nicotiana H2O2 is the main form of ROS in the stigma. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Presumptive drug screening enables timely procurement of search and arrest warrants and represents a crucial first step in crime scene analysis. Screening also reduces the burden on forensic laboratories which often face insurmountable backlogs. In most scenarios, on-site presumptive drug screening relies on chemical field tests for initial identification. However, even when used appropriately, these test kits remain limited to subjective colorimetric analysis, produce false positive or negative results with excessive sample quantities, and are known to cross-react with numerous innocuous substances. Previous efforts to develop microfluidic devices that incorporate these chromogenic indicator reagents address only a few of the many challenges associated with these kits. This is especially true for samples where the drug of interest is present as a lacing agent. This work describes the development of a centrifugal microfluidic device capable of integrating facile sample preparation, by way of a 3D printed snap-on cartridge amenable to microwave assisted extraction, followed by chromatographic separation and chromogenic detection on-disc. As cannabis is among the most widely used controlled substance worldwide, and displays strong interference with these indicator reagents, mock samples of laced marijuana are used for a proof-of-concept demonstration. Post extraction, the microdevice completes high throughput metering just prior to simultaneous reaction with four of the most commonly employed microchemical tests, followed by objective image analysis in CIELAB (a device-independent color model). Separation and recovery of a representative controlled substance with 93% efficiency is achieved. Correct identification, according to hierarchical cluster analysis, of three illicit drugs (e.g., heroin, phencyclidine, and cocaine) in artificially laced samples is also demonstrated on-disc. The cost effective microdevice is capable of complete automation post-extraction, with a total analysis time (including extraction) of <8 min. ABSTRACT Objective Materials and Methods Results Conclusion Clinical Significance The aim of this study was to assess the effect of opaque stain application to the intaglio surface of lithium disilicate glass ceramics on the masking ability of discolored substrates and bond strength to a resin‐based luting agent (depending on etching time); the stain film‐thickness was also assessed.Ceramic specimens were produced with CAD‐CAM blocks of lithium disilicate (IPS e.max CAD). Two opaque stains were tested at ceramic intaglio surface: opaque glassy stain for titanium frameworks (OP‐ti) and low‐fusion glassy stain for ceramic characterization (LFG‐iv). Non‐stained ceramic specimens served as controls. For optical and colorimetric analyses, A2‐shaded ceramics of medium and low‐translucencies were tested, in thicknesses of 1.0‐ and 1.5‐mm (n = 10), with two coupling agents (non‐shaded—glycerin and A2‐shaded try‐in paste). CIEDE2000 formula was used for calculation of translucency parameter (TP00) and color differences (ΔE00). Whiteness index for dentistry (WID) was also reported. ΔE00 were assessed over discolored substrates (tooth‐shaded A2—reference, A4, C3, and C4; coppery metal, silvery metal, white zirconia, and PEEK). Microshear bond strength of stained and non‐stained ceramic specimens to a resin‐based luting agent was evaluated. Film‐thickness of stains was assessed by scanning electron microscopy.The application of opaque stains to the intaglio surface of lithium disilicate ceramics resulted in significant reduction of TP00 (p < 0.001) and WID (p < 0.001) and differences in L*, C*, and ho color coordinates (especially with OP‐ti) (p < 0.001). ΔE00 was significantly reduced in stained ceramic groups in comparison with the control, for all discolored substrates (p < 0.001). Acceptable color matching was obtained with stained ceramic specimens for all discolored substrates, depending on the type of stain, ceramic thickness, ceramic translucency, and coupling agent. The application of stains to the ceramic intaglio surface was not detrimental to bond strength to a resin‐based luting agent, but depended on the time of hydrofluoric acid‐etching (20 s for OP‐ti and 60 s for LFG‐iv) (p < 0.001). Background and purpose Methods Results Conclusion Thermochromic gel phantoms provide a controlled medium for visual assessment of thermal ablation device performance. However, there are limited studies reporting on the comparative assessment of ablation profiles assessed in thermochromic gel phantoms against those in ex vivo tissue. The objective of this study was to compare microwave ablation zones in a thermochromic tissue‐mimicking gel phantom and ex vivo bovine liver and to report on measurements of the temperature‐dependent dielectric and thermal properties of the phantom.Thermochromic polyacrylamide phantoms were fabricated following a previously reported protocol. Phantom samples were heated to temperatures in the range of 20°C–90°C in a temperature‐controlled water bath, and colorimetric analysis of images of the phantom taken after heating was used to develop a calibration between color changes and the temperature to which the phantom was heated. Using a custom, 2.45 GHz water‐cooled microwave ablation antenna, ablations were performed in fresh ex vivo liver and phantoms using 65 W applied for 5 min or 10 min (n = 3 samples in each medium for each power/time combination). Broadband (500 MHz–6 GHz) temperature‐dependent dielectric and thermal properties of the phantom were measured over the temperature range of 22°C–100°C.Colorimetric analysis showed that the sharp change in gel phantom color commences at a temperature of 57°C. Short and long axes of the ablation zone in the phantom (as assessed by the 57°C isotherm) for 65 W, 5 min ablations were aligned with the extents of the ablation zone observed in ex vivo bovine liver. However, for the 65 W, 10 min setting, ablations in the phantom were on average 23.7% smaller in the short axis and 7.4 % smaller in the long axis than those observed in ex vivo liver. Measurements of the temperature‐dependent relative permittivity, thermal conductivity, and volumetric heat capacity of the phantom largely followed similar trends to published values for ex vivo liver tissue.Thermochromic tissue‐mimicking phantoms provides a controlled, and reproducible medium for comparative assessment of microwave ablation devices and energy delivery settings. Understanding the process of color development and creating practical and efficient blue pigments is crucial in ceramics. The current work describes the synthesis and characterization of Ni2+-doped Zn 2 GeO 4 samples with varying concentrations (x = 0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.04, 0.08 and 0.16 mol%) as an effective strategy for tailoring their structure and electronic properties. These materials were synthesized using the coprecipitation method followed by microwave-assisted hydrothermal treatment at 140 °C for 10 min, and the as-synthesized samples underwent heat treatment at 1000 °C for 2 h to establish thermal-colorimetric stability. The synergistic effect of the Ni2+ 3d orbitals generating energy levels as new trapping sites in a broad energy range above the valence band was verified using DFT calculations. The substitution of Zn2+ by Ni2+ at x = 0.01 % changes the local electronic structure, resulting in a switchable electron transfer from the [NiO 4 ] and the neighbor [ZnO 4 ]and [GeO 4 ] tetrahedral clusters to shared oxygen anions, which is responsible for the observed blue color, as confirmed by colorimetric and spectroscopic analysis. This study paves the way, shedding light on the strategic design of a new class of ceramic pigments characterized by low toxicity, a vibrant blue hue, and excellent chemical/thermal durability. In healthcare, blood pH and glucose levels are critical indicators, especially for chronic conditions like diabetes. Although taking blood samples is accurate, it is invasive and unaffordable for many. Wearable sensors offer non‐invasive and continuous detection methods, yet face major challenges, such as high cost, inaccuracies, and complex interpretation. Colorimetric wearable sensors integrated with machine learning (ML) are introduced for accurately detecting pH values and glucose concentrations in sweat. These battery‐free and cost‐effective biosensors, made of cotton textiles, are designed to work seamlessly with smartphones for data collection and automated analysis. A new pH indicator is synthesized with enhanced sensitivity and two types of glucose sensors are developed by depositing enzymatic solutions onto cotton substrates. The sensors' performance is assessed using standard solutions with known pH levels ranging from 4 to 10 and glucose concentrations between 0.03 to 1 mm. The photos captured from these sensors are then analyzed by image processing and three different ML algorithms, achieving an accuracy of 90% in pH and glucose detection. These findings provide effective synthesis methods for textile‐based sweat sensors and demonstrate the significance of employing different ML algorithms for their colorimetric analysis, thus eliminating the need for human intervention in the process. The Deliblato (Banat) Sand Sea, which is one of the largest areas of аeolian sand in Europe, is located near the Iron Gate, which marks the crossing of the Danube River through the biggest gorge of this river. Here, Danubian alluvium has served as the sand source for the Banat Sand Sea, which was formed primarily through southeasterly (Košava) winds. Utilizing a multi-proxy approach, the objective of this study is to gain a better understanding of the environmental dynamics of the Banat Sand Sea. To achieve this goal, we conducted an analysis of an archive representing an approximately 20-m-thick dune formation on the northern edge of this dune field. Using optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating, we calculated aeolian sedimentation rates and dune ages. Sand was deposited here approximately between 17 ka and 13 ka. Magnetic susceptibility, grain size, and colorimetric analyses were interpreted in terms of local paleoenvironmental conditions. Calculated sedimentation rates (SR) indicate intensive aeolian deposition during the study period that range from 483 cm/ka to 502 cm/ka. We compared our data with regional and other European archives, as well as with climatic variations recorded in the Greenland ice core North Greenland Ice Core Project (NGRIP). Lateral flow assay (LFA) color signal quantification methods were developed by utilizing both International Commission on Illumination (CIE) LAB (CIELAB) color space and grayscale intensity differences. The CIELAB image processing procedure included calibration, test, control band detection, and color difference calculation, which can minimize the noise from the background. The LFA platform showcases its ability to accurately discern relevant colorimetric signals. The rising occurrence of infectious outbreaks from foodborne pathogens like Salmonella typhimurium presents significant economic, healthcare, and public health risks. The study introduces an aptamer-based lateral flow (ABLF) platform by using inkjet printing for specially detecting S. typhimurium. The ABLF utilized gold-decorated polystyrene microparticles, functionalized with specific S. typhimurium aptamers (Ps-AuNPs-ssDNA). The platform demonstrates a detection limit of 102 CFU mL−1 in buffer solutions and 103 CFU mL−1 in romaine lettuce tests. Furthermore, it sustained performance for over 8 weeks at room temperature. The ABLF platform and analysis methods are expected to effectively resolve the low-sensitivity problems of the former LFA systems and to bridge the gap between lab-scale platforms to market-ready solutions by offering a simple, cost-effective, and consistent approach to detecting foodborne pathogens in real samples. Punica granatum (Pomegranate) is widely accessible and used by natural health professionals for a range of medicinal purposes. The purpose of the current study to use a derivatization method in conjunction with FT-IR, colorimetry, and UV-Visible spectroscopy to determine the total phenolic and flavonoid content of various pomegranate sections. Pomegranate is used to treat ulcers, diarrhoea, Male infertility and so on. Currently, pomegranate is marketed in different novel drug formulations such as nanoparticles for local mucosal drug delivery, niosomes, hydrogels for chronic ınflammation, microemulsion for skin care and analytical techniques using HPLC, GC and GC-MS, LC-MS for carrying out the various quantitative and qualitative analyses are some examples of these developments. In this study, a part of pomegranate was extracted and evaluated by using Microscopical and Macroscopical evaluation, Fluorescence Analysis, FT-IR studies using derivatisation method and finally quantified the phenol and flavonoid content using UVVisible Spectroscopy. Results of the study revealed that the pomegranate extract gives data about the linearity, precision, accuracy of peel and bark ethanolic and aqueous extract gives linearity 1-5µg/ml, Regression 0.998, LOD 0.691µg/ml, LOQ 1.32µg/ml. Through the appropriate selection of Solvents, we successfully developed a stable and effective method for the determination and estimation of phenol and flavonoid content by derivatization and FTIR studies. The application of composite films consisting of crosslinked polyvinyl alcohol and magnetite as sensitive elements in the determination of the composition of aqueous solutions by digital colorimetry is described. A novel approach to fabricating composite materials of the composition hydrophilic polymer–magnetite is proposed; it involves the precipitation of Fe3O4 particles in ammonia vapors. The sensor films produced by this method were employed for determining the volume fraction of alcohol in products characterized by high alcohol content. The limit of detection for ethanol was determined at 63 vol %, while for isopropanol, it 24 vol %. A sensitive, accurate, and affordable colorimetric method was developed for assaying prednisolone (PRZ) in various medicinal forms. The procedure involves the oxidation of PRZ by ferric ions, followed by complexation of the resulting ferrous ions with ferricyanide to produce a greenish-blue product. Common complexation conditions were thoroughly investigated. The mole ratio of FeCl3·6H2O to K3Fe(CN)6 was 8:1. The proposed mechanism of complexation was suggested and considered. Various parameters were optimized, including the reduction of the colorimetric reaction temperature to 50°C and the duration of heating and analysis to 20-30 minutes. The calibration curve was linear over the range of 1-60 µg/mL. The limit of detection (LOD) and the limit of quantification (LOQ) were 0.5 µg/mL and 1 µg/mL, respectively. Spiking actual samples with standard PRZ showed recoveries within the 97.3-100.1% range. The method exhibited high precision, with an RSD% of less than 1.5%. Additionally, the study confirmed that common pharmaceutical excipients did not interfere. Real medicinal samples, including tablets, syrup, eye drops, and creams, were successfully examined for direct analysis of PRZ using the developed methodology, demonstrating its suitability for routine analysis of various PRZ-containing drug formulations. In this work, nanocellulose aqueous dispersions were studied as a bio-inspired consolidating agent for the recovery and conservation of ancient wood and compared with two of the most used traditional consolidants: the synthetic resins Paraloid B-72 and Regalrez 1126. The morphology of crystalline nanocellulose (CNC), determined using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), presents with a rod-like shape, with a size ranging between 15 and 30 nm in width. Chemical characterization performed using the Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) technique provides information on surface modifications, in this case, demonstrating the presence of only the characteristic peaks of nanocellulose. Moreover, conductometric, pH, and dry matter measurements were carried out, showing also in this case values perfectly conforming to what is found in the literature. The treated wood samples were observed under an optical microscope in reflected light and under a scanning electron microscope to determine, respectively, the damage caused by xylophages and the morphology of the treated surfaces. The images acquired show the greater similarity of the surfaces treated with nanocellulose to untreated wood, compared with other consolidating agents. Finally, a colorimetric analysis of these samples was also carried out before and after a first consolidation treatment, and after a second treatment carried out on the same samples three years later. Lactate is a critical regulatory factor secreted by tumors, influencing tumor development, metastasis, and clinical prognosis. Precise analysis of tumor-cell-secreted lactate is pivotal for early cancer diagnosis. This study describes a paper-based microfluidic chip to enable the detection of lactate levels secreted externally by living cells. Under optimized conditions, the lactate biosensor can complete the assay in less than 30 min. In addition, the platform can be used to distinguish lactate secretion levels in different cell lines and can be applied to the screening of antitumor drugs. Through enzymatic chemical conversion, this platform generates fluorescent signals, enabling qualitative assessment under a handheld UV lamp and quantitative analysis via grayscale intensity measurements using ImageJ (Ver. 1.50i) software. The paper-based platform presented in this study is rapid and highly sensitive and does not necessitate other costly and intricate instruments, thus making it applicable in resource-constrained areas and serving as a valuable tool for investigating cell lactate secretion and screening various anti-cancer drugs. This study investigates the development of polylactic acid (PLA) by incorporating thermochromic black pigments (TCB) at varying concentrations of 0, 0.5, 1, 2 and 3 wt% through the process of melt blending. The color transition and reversion behaviors of the resulting specimens were examined at different temperatures (−10, 10, 30, 35 and 50 °C) using colorimetric analysis. Additionally, mechanical properties, thermal characteristic and thermal stability were assessed through tensile testing, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), respectively. The study revealed that an increase in TCB concentrations led to a reduction in lightness (L*). Higher pigment content enhanced thermochromic properties, resulting in more pronounced color changes. The total color difference (ΔE) remained reproducible over five cycles of heating and freezing, and this reproducibility persisted after thermal aging. Tensile strength and elongation at break exhibited improvement with increasing pigment content. Glass transition temperature (Tg) and melting temperature (Tm) of the thermochromic samples showed minimal reduction compared to that of neat PLA, which is 64.2 °C. This article is focused on the development and characterization of a series of biodegradable and eco-friendly colour masterbatches (MBs), based on natural pigments and biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA) and polybutylene succinate (PBS). Four commercial natural pigments were used, spirulina, curcumin, beetroot and chlorophyllin, to develop the colour masterbatches using a twin-screw extruder. The natural pigment-based MBs were added at 2, 4 and 6 wt%, as additives to study the effect on the properties of injected biodegradable parts (PLA and PBS). The injected samples were characterized in terms of their mechanical (tensile and Charpy impact tests) and visual properties (according to CieLab). In addition, the ageing of the coloured material was followed by colorimetric analysis after its exposure under a Xenon lamp. The mechanical results showed that the addition of coloured masterbatches in different percentages (2–6 wt%) did not significantly change the properties of the materials with respect to the as-received ones. A noticeable colour difference in the injected samples was observed after the first 50 h of artificial light exposure. Medicinal plants offer natural cures and inspire modern medicine's development. This study examined the antioxidant, enzyme-inhibitory, and antiproliferative activities of various extracts obtained from aerial and root fragments of Phlomoides molucelloides (Bunge) Salmaki. The extracts' overall phenolics, flavonoids, and compounds were defined using colorimetric and LC-MS/MS analyses. The highest total phenolic and flavonoid content was measured in the methanol and infusion extracts of the aerial fragments, with 102.21 mg RE/g and 51.33 mg GAE/g, respectively. Most compounds were defined as flavonoids, predominantly as apigenin and quercetin glycosides. Methanol, 70 % methanol, and infusion extracts from aerial parts had the highest antioxidant activity determined by DPPH, ABTS, CUPRAC, FRAP, metal chelation, and phosphomolybdenum analyses. Moreover, the methanol extract of the roots had the highest anti-acetylcholinesterase, anti-butyrylcholinesterase, and anti-glucosidase activities. The dichloromethane extracts of the roots displayed the highest anti-tyrosinase and anti-amylase activities. The antiproliferative activity of the extracts was investigated against MDA-MB-231, MCF-7, and HeLa cell lines. The lowest IC 50 value (875.7 µg/mL) was computed for the methanol extract of the aerial part on the MCF-7 cell line at the 48th h. The findings showed that P. molucelloides extracts may offer a promising therapeutic approach due to their rich bioactive content. An intelligent colorimetric sensing platform integrated with in situ immunomagnetic separation function was developed for ultrasensitive detection of Escherichia coli O157: H7 (E. coli O157: H7) in food. Captured antibody modified magnetic nanoparticles (cMNPs) and detection antibody/horseradish peroxidase (HRP) co-functionalized AuNPs (dHAuNPs) were firstly synthesized for targeted enrichment and colorimetric assay of E. coli O157: H7, in which remarkable signal amplification was realized by loading large amounts of HRP on the surface of AuNPs. Coupling with the optical collimation attachments and embedded magnetic separation module, a highly integrated optical device was constructed, by which in situ magnetic separation and high-quality imaging of 96-well microplates containing E. coli O157: H7 was achieved with a smartphone. The concentration of E. coli O157: H7 could be achieved in one-step by performing digital image colorimetric analysis of the obtained image with a custom-designed app. This biosensor possesses high sensitivity (1.63 CFU/mL), short detecting time (3 h), and good anti-interference performance even in real-sample testing. Overall, the developed method is expected to be a novel field detection platform for foodborne pathogens in water and food as well as for the diagnosis of infections due to its portability, ease of operation, and high feasibility. We have explored the potential application of unstained tissue slides' autofluorescence to differentiate collagen-related skin degenerative diseases, such as psoriasis, lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, and Syndrome of Raynaud. The Sigma-1 Receptor (Sigmar1) is a stress-activated chaperone and a promising target for pharmacological modulation due to its ability to induce multiple cellular responses. Yet, it is unknown how Sigmar1 is involved in cardiorenal syndrome type 4 (CRS4) in which renal damage results in cardiac dysfunction. This study explored the role of Sigmar1 and its ligands in a CRS4 model induced by unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) in male and female C57BL/6 mice. We evaluated renal and cardiac dysfunction markers, Sigmar1 expression, and cardiac remodeling through time (7, 12, and 21 days) and after chronically administering the Sigmar1 agonists PRE-084 (1 mg/kg/day) and SA4503 (1 mg/kg/day), and the antagonist haloperidol (2 mg/kg/day), for 21 days after UUO using colorimetric analysis, RT-qPCR, histology, immunohistochemistry, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, RNA-seq, and bioinformatics. We found that obstructive nephropathy induces Sigmar1 expression in the kidneys and heart, and that Sigmar1 stimulation with its agonists PRE-084 and SA4503 aggravates cardiac dysfunction and remodeling in both sexes. Still, their effects are significantly more potent in males. Our findings reveal essential differences associated with sex in the development of CRS4 and should be considered when contemplating Sigmar1 as a pharmacological target. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate and compare the impact of cigarette smoking (CS) and heated tobacco (HT) on the alteration of color and ultrastructural characteristics of human enamel and cementum. Background: According to tobacco companies, a less harmful substitute for CS is HT products. Nevertheless, comprehensive research on the effects of HT on tooth structures has been lacking. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the impact of CS and HT on the alteration of color and ultrastructural characteristics of human enamel and cementum. Materials and Methods: Thirty intact and noncarious human maxillary premolars extracted for orthodontic treatment purposes, previously disinfected, were used in the study. The specimens were randomly separated into six groups (n = 10), as follows: Group 1: enamel without smoking exposure; Group 2: enamel exposed to CS; Group 3: enamel exposed to HT; Group 4: cementum without smoking exposure; Group 5: cementum exposed to CS; and Group 6: cementum exposed to HT. The measurement of color change was conducted using a spectrophotometer. The surface alterations and mineral composition of enamel and cementum were evaluated using scanning electron microscopy and energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy. ANOVA test followed by Tukey's post hoc test was used to determine significant differences between groups. Results: Results showed that CS had a more pronounced effect on enamel and cementum color changes than HT. The impact of CS and HT on color changes was more evident in cementum than in enamel. Surface morphology of enamel and cementum showed alterations in histology following exposure to both smoking types. Moreover, the mineral content experienced a significant reduction after using CS and HT. The reduction in calcium content after CS and HT exposure was similar. However, HT led to a significant decrease in the phosphorus content of enamel when compared with CS. At the same time, CS exposure in cementum resulted in a more significant reduction in Ca/P ratio than HT. Conclusions: Although HT may appear to present a lower danger to hard dental tissues than CS, it is not entirely harmless. CS results in more color changes on the enamel and cementum of teeth. Both smoking methods affected the mineral content of teeth, with CS having a significant effect on the roots, while HT significantly affected the crowns' mineral composition. Clinical Relevance: The study addresses a knowledge gap on how smoking and HT products affect hard tooth tissues. Few studies compared the histological and colorimetric effects of these two smoking strategies before this study. Our research shows that cigarette smoke and HT products affect dental enamel and cementum differently, revealing their potential tooth harm. The use of HT products may cause tooth cavities and periodontal disease. This research can help clinicians advise patients on the oral health effects of these smoking alternatives. A urea quantification method integrated with a pipette-tip-based biosensor and a smartphone was developed for the on-site diagnosis of blood urea nitrogen. When a sample solution containing phenol red is drawn into a pipette tip with urease immobilized on its inner wall, the color of the solution changes owing to an enzymatic reaction. The urea concentration can be quantified by photographing the pipette tip with a smartphone and quantifying the color intensity of the solution. In actual urea measurements, the detection limit (3σ) was estimated to be 1.3 mg/dL, indicating that the method has sufficient performance to quantify urea in serum. Furthermore, the method was found to reduce sample consumption and analysis time to 1/10 and 1/3, respectively, compared with conventional methods using microwell plates. This method requires only a micropipette and a smartphone to carry out measurements and does not require bench-top precision equipment or special training. The formation of complexes with the chromophore zincon within the nanopores of aminated mesoporous silica was employed to develop a simple colorimetric method for the detection of copper (II) in human serum. In this method, the sedimentation of the aminated mesoporous silica encapsulating zincon allowed for the detection of a distinct color change, resulting in the detection of copper in the 0–6 µM range. Although zincon forms complexes with both copper (II) and zinc (II) in bulk solution, this complexation within the nanopores enabled the selective detection of copper (II). When this method was applied to the measurement of copper (II) in human serum, the measured values were comparable to those obtained by the conventional method using basocuproindisulfonic acid. Presentation of patient’s exams were distributed as follows: Group 1 (GI): color retinography (CR), Group 2 (GII): CR + visual field (VF), Group 3 (GIII): CR + optical coherence tomography (OCT), Group 4 (GIV): CR + VF + OCT. The Laguna ONhE software was used to estimate ONH Hb based on CR. Main outcomes were the comparison of sensitivity and accuracy between general ophthalmologists’ evaluation and the glaucoma discriminant function (GDF) index from Laguna ONhE and also the agreement between examiners (Kappa statistics).Results: Laguna ONhE GDF index demonstrated higher sensitivity values (GI- 90%; GII-90%; GIII-100%; GIV-100%) comparing to all groups (GI-59%; GII-86.5%; GIII-86.5%; GIV-68.5%). In GI, in which it was observed the worst accuracy result (64.8%), we found 75% for GDF. In GII, the accuracy was 81.3% and we found 55% for GDF. The highest agreement was in GII (Kappa=0.63; 95% CI=0.53– 0.72), and the lowest in GI (Kappa=0.30; 95% CI=0.20– 0.39).Conclusion: Laguna ONhE software, a low-cost and non-invasive method, showed good sensitivity and great utility as a screening method in differentiating patients with glaucoma from those with LPC, compared with evaluation of general ophthalmologists.Keywords: glaucoma, diagnosis, retinography, colorimetric analysis

The art of dyeing fabrics is one of the oldest human activities. In order to improve the fastness properties of dyeing products, various additives are added to optimize the uniformity of fibers and surfaces and improve dye distribution. Unfortunately, these additives can be harmful and very often are not biodegradable. This article reports on the possibility of using a natural additive for dyeing textiles: a polysaccharide extracted from the prickly pear cactus (Opuntia ficus indica). One type of fabric was tested, silk, with different colors. Several samples were prepared and dyed for each color, adding the same additives but also a commercial chemical aid for one of them and the mucilage of Opuntia for another. The fastness of the applied dyes was evaluated by washing at different temperatures with a common liquid detergent. All samples were analyzed before and after washing with a colorimeter to evaluate the color changes. The results of the analyses reported and compared indicate the potential of prickly pear mucilage as an additive for dyeing silk, which is easily accessible, safe, and sustainable compared to other commonly used additives. Recently, addressing various wounds, ranging from skin injuries to pressure and chronic ulcers, has necessitated a more detailed approach to wound condition monitoring aimed at enhancing the patient's quality of life. Although most available wound dressings offer protection and promote the regeneration of wound lesions, they fail to monitor wound progression. To meet this need, this study introduces a pioneering solution: a wireless, battery‐free, optoelectronic diagnostic sensor seamlessly integrated into a colorimetric, pH‐sensitive wound dressing, designed to significantly enhance patient quality of life through improved wound care. Curcumin‐polycaprolactone (C‐PCL) dressing protect the wounds, promote cell regeneration, and possess antimicrobial properties. In addition, the dressing exhibits colorimetric pH‐monitoring capabilities across different wound conditions, enabling individuals without specialized knowledge to assess the status of their wounds. The core innovation lies in the integration of a green light‐emitting diode (LED) and photodiode, which meticulously evaluates color changes from yellow to red of colorimetric dressing, enhance the precision of this user‐friendly colorimetric diagnosis strategy. The integration of wireless battery‐free systems facilitates quantitative and real‐time monitoring of wound data in patients without inconvenience. Two colorimetric methods are used to determine the total polyphenol contents of tea, namely, "the Folin-Ciocalteu method," defined by the International Organization for Standardization, and the "iron tartrate method," specified in the Standard Tables of Food Composition in Japan. In this study, we compared the Folin-Ciocalteu and iron tartrate methods using green tea extracts. When comparing the 2 methods, the sum of the 4 major catechins measured using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was regarded as the standard value. The total polyphenol contents obtained using the Folin-Ciocalteu method were closer to the HPLC value than those obtained using the iron tartrate method. However, the iron tartrate method is adequate if the current official method is improved, that is, our results suggest that the coefficients appropriate for common green tea varieties, as well as the degree and duration of cover cultivation, in the official iron tartrate method must be considered. This study presents the successful synthesis of a vibrant blue nanopigment derived from the metastable structure of Na‐heulandite zeolite. Employing ion exchange and coprecipitation methods with cobalt and zinc ions, followed by thermal treatment at 1100°C, resulted Co‐willemite and gahnite phases, confirmed by x‐ray diffraction and Rietveld refinement. Optical analyses verified the blue coloration, with cobalt ion transitions evident. CIE L* a* b* colorimetric analysis placed the pigment in the blue region (L* = 49.19, b* = −22, a* = −11). Application to ceramic tiles, followed by sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) modification, produced a nearly superhydrophobic surface (contact angle 140°, sliding angle 8°), attributed to the nano–micro structure and SDS–silica interaction. Field emission‐scanning electron microscopy images confirmed the pattern‐like surface with small patterns. Human adenoviruses (HAdVs) are common pathogens that are associated with a variety of diseases, including respiratory tract infections (RTIs). Without reliable, fast, and cost-effective detection methods for HAdVs, patients may be misdiagnosed and inappropriately treated. To address this problem, we have developed a multiplex loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay for the detection of the species Human adenovirus B (HAdV-B), Human adenovirus C (HAdV-C) and Human adenovirus E (HAdV-E) that cause RTIs. This multiplexing approach is based on the melting curve analysis of the amplicons with a specific melting temperature for each HAdV species. Without the need for typing of HAdVs, the LAMP results can be visually detected using colorimetric analysis. The assay reliably detects at least 375 copies of HAdV-B and -C and 750 copies of HAdV-E DNA per reaction in less than 35 min at 60 °C. The designed primers have no in silico cross-reactivity with other human respiratory pathogens. Validation on 331 nasal swab samples taken from patients with RTIs showed a 90–94% agreement rate with our in-house multiplex quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) method. Concordance between the quantitative and visual LAMP was 99%. A colorimetric analysis platform has been successfully developed based on FeCo-NC dual-atom nanozyme (FeCo-NC DAzyme) for the detection of organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs). The FeCo-NC DAzyme exhibited exceptional oxidase-like activity (OXD), enabling the catalysis of colorless TMB to form blue oxidized TMB (oxTMB) without the need for H2O2 involvement. By combining acid phosphatase (ACP) hydrolase with FeCo-NC DAzyme, a "FeCo-NC DAzyme + TMB + ACP + SAP" colorimetric system was constructed, which facilitated the rapid detection of malathion. The chromogenic system was applied to detect malathion using a smartphone-based app and an auxiliary imaging interferogram device for colorimetric measurements, which have a linear range of 0.05–4.0 µM and a limit of detection (LOD) as low as 15 nM in real samples, comparable to UV-Vis and HPLC-DAD detection methods. This study presents an innovative approach to enhancing the shelf life and maintaining the quality of sliced cooked ham through the application of a natural biopreservative derived from lactic fermentation. The biopreservative, at concentrations ranging from 1% to 3.5%, demonstrated substantial efficacy in microbial inhibition, keeping the microbial density low and relatively constant over time (p < 0.05). Remarkably, even at the lower concentration of 1%, the microbial growth rates were significantly reduced, with the treated samples showing notable stability over 24 days at both 7 °C and 25 °C. The microbial count in the treated with biopreservative group was significantly lower (3.19 log cfu/g) compared to the blank (4.59 log cfu/g) and control (5.01 log cfu/g) over 4 days at 7 °C. The shelf life of the ham was 24 days for the blank, 20 days for the control, and 101 days for the treated group at 7 °C. Moreover, colorimetric analysis revealed that the treated samples maintained better color stability, experiencing less variation in the hue angle and chroma, suggesting a protective effect against quality degradation over time. The successful application of the biopreservative aligns with the growing consumer demand for natural food additives and underscores the movement toward sustainable, health-conscious food preservation practices. The findings of this study indicate a promising avenue for the food industry to adopt environmentally friendly alternatives to synthetic additives, which could significantly influence future standards in food processing and preservation. We treated dry black bean dreg fermentation products with radio-frequency (RF) waves. With RF treatment (RF output power of 3 kW and electrode gap of 12 cm), a sample was dried within 1 h, which would take 10 h to dry via hot-air drying at 60 °C (sample weight reduction from 100 to 28.2 g). RF treatment thus accelerated fermented black bean dreg drying approximately 10-fold. The fermented black bean dregs were dried for 60 min at a fixed RF output power of 3 kW with different electrode gaps (12, 16, and 20 cm). Samples treated with electrode gaps of 12 and 16 cm were completely dried. When the fermented black bean dregs were dried for 60 min with an RF output power of 3 kW with a 16 cm electrode gap, their water activity decreased from 0.98 to 0.65. Colorimetric analysis showed that the sample color darkened significantly (ΔE = 5.73 ± 2.71), whereas its solubility (28.8 ± 0.1%) and antioxidant capacity (EC50 = 51.7 ± 0.7 mg/mL) increased. In addition, deglycosylated isoflavone daidzein content significantly increased, whereas that of the glycosylated isoflavone genistin decreased. This paper presents the development of a model for Nd:YAG laser surface oxidation of 316L stainless steel. A full factorial design of experiments (DOE) are implemented to produce a model for the prediction of elemental composition and color. The elemental composition of the films produced where measured using an X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopic (XPS) and the color is measured using optical reflectance spectroscopy. Oxide layers produced have a Cr/Fe ratio in the range of 0.13–2.09, and highly controllable color variation via single‐pass laser process. The effect of the process parameters used such as power, frequency, and scan speed on laser‐induced oxides is examined with an aim to produce a model suitable for predictive control of the elemental composition and color of the oxide film. Surface morphology control via alteration of the laser power is an important factor for defining the resulting coloration. A new finding from this work is the discovery that within the range of laser surface processing parameters investigated, the molybdenum concentration is inversely proportional to the chromium concentration. This paper provides data required for control of 316L‐SS surface chemistry, and for the expansion of the current thermokinetic model to incorporate the mechanistic effect of molybdenum. Spectral imaging has revolutionisedvarious fields by capturing detailed spatial and spectral information. However, its high cost and complexity limit the acquisition of a large amount of data to generalise processes and methods, thus limiting widespread adoption. To overcome this issue, a body of the literature investigates how to reconstruct spectral information from RGB images, with recent methods reaching a fairly low error of reconstruction, as demonstrated in the recent literature. This article explores the modification of information in the case of RGB-to-spectral reconstruction beyond reconstruction metrics, with a focus on assessing the accuracy of the reconstruction process and its ability to replicate full spectral information. In addition to this, we conduct a colorimetric relighting analysis based on the reconstructed spectra. We investigate the information representation by principal component analysis and demonstrate that, while the reconstruction error of the state-of-the-art reconstruction method is low, the nature of the reconstructed information is different. While it appears that the use in colour imaging comes with very good performance to handle illumination, the distribution of information difference between the measured and estimated spectra suggests that caution should be exercised before generalising the use of this approach. The article introduces the BrickPhotometer, a low-cost spectrophotometer designed for use in secondary school chemistry education. The device, made of building blocks and a smartphone, allows for the measurement of visible light spectra by capturing digital images and reading gray values. While there are limitations in accuracy, the BrickPhotometer can still be used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of spectra, making it a valuable tool for teaching spectrophotometry in the classroom. Background: Pulsed dye lasers (PDL) are currently the first‐line treatment of port‐wine birthmarks (PWB). Due to high maintenance costs and instable technology, alternative methods are needed. Objectives: To compare clinical outcomes of a variable‐sequenced, long‐pulsed 532‐nm potassium titanyl‐phosphate (KTP) laser and PDL on treating PWB. Methods: A prospective, randomized, split‐side study. Patients were treated with a KTP laser and PDL with 1 to 5 sessions at intervals of 6–8 weeks. A follow‐up visit was scheduled 6 weeks post‐treatment. Efficacy was evaluated through colorimetric analysis, area reduction measurements and clinical evaluations by two blinded investigators based on photo documentation. Subjects provided rating of pain intensity during treatment, post‐treatment reactions and satisfaction. Safety was measured by adverse events. Maintenance issues of the laser systems were documented. Results: A total of 35 patients (mean age 42.1 years) were enrolled. 63% were female. Patients received 2.4 (SD 1.4; 1–5) treatment sessions. Colorimetric analysis indicated a comparable clearance effect in PWB of both KTP laser and PDL. Independent investigators rated clinical appearance to be significantly improved compared to baseline. No significant difference was observed between both laser systems. Regarding post‐treatment reactions, the KTP laser caused less swelling, purpura and crusts. 96% would recommend both treatment modalities. Patients were satisfied with both laser systems. During the study, PDL systems malfunctioned for 6.6 months in total. For the KTP laser, we did not observe any system failures. Conclusion: Our data indicate that the KTP laser of the latest generation with large‐spot sizes, subpulse technology and cryogen cooling has a comparable efficacy to the PDL in treating PWB. In addition, KTP laser is associated with greater tolerability, fewer technical failures and lower repair costs. Further prospective studies are required to determine the true effectiveness of the KTP laser in PWB treatment. This study was preregistered in Clinicaltrials.gov (NCT05771298). The development of phosphors for warm white light plays a decisive role in the quest for energy-efficient and environmentally friendly lighting technologies. Lanthanide-based phosphors, especially those containing europium ions (Eu3+), offer promising possibilities as they can emit light in the entire visible spectrum. In this study, the luminescence properties of two Eu3+ complexes, specifically [Eucy1a] and [Eu2cy2], synthesized with macrocyclic ligands are presented. The macrocyclic ligands (cy1a)H3 and (cy2)H6 provide a stable coordination environment that allows fine-tuning of photophysical properties, which are crucial for warm white phosphors. Synthesis, molecular modeling using density functional theory (DFT) and spectroscopic characterization of the complexes were performed. Notably, the complexes showed an inefficient energy transfer from the ligands to the Eu3+ ions, resulting in a broad blue emission spectrum corresponding to the ligand emission and the red 4f–4f transitions of Eu3+,which is important for the generation of white light. Photometric evaluation revealed favorable properties, including correlated color temperatures (CCT) indicative of warm white light, high color rendering index (CRI) values and exceptional Luminous Efficacy of Radiation (LER). In addition, the presence of coordinated water molecules influenced the luminescence lifetime and quantum efficiency of the complexes. Overall, the synthesized Eu3+ complexes show promising prospects for applications in solid-state lighting, LED designs and emergency technologies that offer high performance and energy efficiency. Recent research has demonstrated the positive impact of herbal tea consumption on postprandial blood glucose regulation. This study conducts a comparative analysis of aqueous and ethanol extractions on four herbal teas (Mallotus, Cyclocarya, Rubus, and Vine) to assess their phytochemical profiles and functional attributes. Phytochemical contents, antioxidant activities, α-glucosidase inhibitory activities, and chemical compositions are investigated via colorimetric analyses and UPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS/MS, respectively. Results indicate that Vine, among the teas studied, exhibits the most pronounced glucose-regulating effects under both extraction methods. While ethanol extractions yield higher phytochemical content overall, the compositions vary. Conversely, aqueous extracts demonstrate unexpectedly potent antioxidant activities and comparable α-glucosidase inhibitory activities to ethanol extracts. Phytochemical contents correlate positively with antioxidant activities and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities. However, antioxidant activities exhibit a weak positive correlation with α-glucosidase inhibitory activities. These findings provide evidence that aqueous extracts from herbal teas contain valuable phytochemical compositions beneficial for antioxidants and individuals with hyperglycemia, suggesting their potential as functional ingredients to enhance the nutritional value of herbal food products. In droplet microfluidics, UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy along with colorimetric assays have been widely used for chemical and biochemical analysis. However, the sensitivity of the measurement can be limited by the short optical pathlength. Here we report a novel design to enhance the sensitivity by removing oil and converting the droplets into a single-phase aqueous flow, which can be measured within a U-shape channel with long optical pathlength. The flow cells were fabricated via 3D printing. The calibration results have demonstrated complete oil removal and effective optical pathlengths similar to the designed channel lengths (from 5 to 20 mm). The flow cell was further employed in a droplet microfluidic-based phosphate sensing system. The measured phosphate levels displayed excellent consistency with data obtained from traditional UV spectroscopy analysis. This flow cell design overcomes the limitations of short optical pathlengths in droplet microfluidics and has the potential to be used for in situ and continuous monitoring. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The degradation of cadmium yellow in paintings is influenced by various factors, primarily environmental conditions and light exposure. Applying a thin protective layer of linseed oil on the surface could help mitigate these processes. Linseed oil, being a natural material, acts as a barrier against harmful atmospheric agents like moisture and oxygen, which contribute to the degradation of pigments including cadmium yellow. Additionally, linseed oil reduces direct light exposure, thereby lowering the risk of fading and color alteration. In this study, we explored the degradation of cadmium pigments mixed with oil and applied on canvas. We elucidated how the use of a binder prevents the direct oxidation of the pigment, inducing artificial degradation by irradiating samples with UVA (365 nm) and UVC (250 nm) sources. By employing various spectroscopic techniques such as three-dimensional fluorescence mapping (PLE) and Raman, along with colorimetric analysis, we gained a comprehensive understanding of the degradation process, particularly when linseed oil serves as a protective layer.
