The purpose of this research was to identify and rank social factors effective in transforming Iran's public libraries into social centers and develop a conceptual model. This is a mixed research conducted with a systematic grounded theory approach. Four effective community factors in transforming public libraries into community centers were identified: 1. promotion of social activities, 2. participation of public groups, 3. awareness of the community situation, and 4. promotion of community skills. By applying the theory of the public sphere, public libraries can inform people about government decisions and facilitate public debate between the government and citizens. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SOCIAL justice , *ART centers , *NONFORMAL education , *NONBINARY people , *EDUCATORS , *TEENAGE girls - Abstract
Understanding equitable practice is crucial for science education since science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields and STEM learning practices remain significantly marked by structural inequalities. In this paper, building on theories of discourse and situated meaning developed by Foucault, Gee, and Sedgewick, we explore how educators navigated discourses about social justice in informal science learning (ISL) across four UK sites. We draw on qualitative, multimodal data across 5 years of a research–practice partnership between a university, a zoo, a social enterprise working to support girls and nonbinary youth in STEM, a community digital arts center, and a science center. We identify three key discourses that shaped social justice practices across all four practice–partner sites: (1) "inclusion" for STEM, (2) "inclusion" for the institution, and (3) "inclusion" for minoritized youth. We discuss how educators (n = 17) enacted, negotiated, resisted, and reworked these discourses to create equitable practice. We argue that while the three key discourses shaped the possible meanings and practices of equitable ISL in different ways, educators used their agency and creativity to develop more expansive visions of social justice. We discuss how the affordances, pitfalls, and contradictions that emerged within and between the three discourses were strategically navigated and disrupted by educators to support the minoritized youth they worked with, as well as to protect and promote equity in ISL. This paper contributes to research on social justice in ISL by grounding sometimes abstract questions about power and discourse in ISL educators' everyday work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Waipahu Safe Haven Immigrant/Migrant Resource Center (further referred to as Waipahu Safe Haven) was developed using an asset-based Community Center Model approach that acknowledged its community members’ needs, funds of knowledge, and histories while drawing upon their individual and collective resiliency. This paper aims to outline the development of Waipahu Safe Haven and offer insights that can be valuable to others. It highlights a grassroots approach to fostering community empowerment, exemplified by creating a community center that adapts to meet the dynamic needs of the community. Key takeaways and lessons learned include respecting community relationships, leveraging the strengths of partnerships, and recognizing that members’ voices and decision-making are essential. These lessons collectively enrich the understanding of individuals involved in sustained efforts to tackle pressing community issues in a culturally sensitive and inclusive matter. They also enrich the knowledge of those engaging in long-term work to address critical community needs in a culturally appropriate and inclusive way.

Background: Differences in treatment outcomes between community or academic centers are incompletely understood. Methods: Retrospective review of head and neck cancer patients between 2010 and 2020 in a rural health region. Kaplan–Meier curves and log‐rank tests were used to evaluate survival outcomes, along with bivariate and multivariable Cox proportional hazards models. Linear regression was used for functional outcomes of tracheotomy and gastrostomy tube dependence. Results: Two hundred and forty‐eight patients treated at an academic center were compared with 94 patients treated in community centers. In multivariable analysis, the risk of death (HR = 0.60, p = 0.019), and risk of recurrence were lower (HR = 0.29, p < 0.001) for patients treated in academic centers. Patients treated in community centers had longer gastrostomy tube dependence (p = 0.002). Conclusion: Our findings suggest that treatment at an academic center was associated with a lower risk of recurrence and shorter gastrostomy tube dependence compared to treatment in the community. - Abstract
The place of the Bulgarian Community Center in European culture is unique. Originated as a form of public education unknown to the world, today it asserts itself with its multifunctional mission of preserving the intangible cultural heritage, providing widely accessible education in an extracurricular environment and permanent self-education in the spirit of the modern educational paradigm. The aim of the historical-pedagogical study is a theoretical reconstruction of the genesis of the Bulgarian community center, which, even at the dawn of its emergence, functioned as an alternative to the new Bulgarian school. The tasks for realizing the goal are focused on highlighting the content orientation and forms of community education, its first trainers and users of knowledge. The reconstruction is based on researched information, facts and data about events, processes and persons in the documentary base of the first community center that arose in Svishtov, of the National Historic Archive in the National Library, DA Archives of Shumen and Montana, revival periodical press. The applied research methodology is based on the analytical-synthetic, documentary, biographical, factual, hermeneutic and chronological method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Today, in addition to their traditional role in accessing books, and providing a place for reading and other recreational and recreational purposes, public libraries are considered as spaces of society that also have important social roles and functions. This research was conducted with the aim of identifying and ranking cultural factors affecting the role of Iran's public libraries as community centers, and in order to provide a conceptual model in this field, based on Jürgen Habermas' theory of the public sphere.Methodology: This research is applied in terms of its purpose; In terms of data collection, survey; And in terms of the nature of the data, it is a mixed research of an exploratory type, which was carried out with a systematic approach of database theorizing. In the qualitative part, effective factors were identified by conducting 33 interviews and 2 focus groups (each group has 4 people and a total of 8 people). The validity of these factors was confirmed by using the content validity ratio (CVR) index, and their reliability was confirmed through the Fleiss' kappa coefficient test. In the quantitative part, the reliability of the tool was confirmed using a questionnaire consisting of 16 items and with Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.91. Finally, factors were ranked by Shannon's entropy method.Findings: The findings showed that three cultural factors, including local discourse, the arena of understanding and cultural diffusion, are effective in playing the role of public libraries as community centers. Meanwhile, the field of understanding is considered the most important factor and cultural diffusion has the least effect in this field. All factors had content validity higher than 0.33 and Kappa coefficient higher than 0.7, so all of them have the necessary validity and reliability. Finally, the conceptual model of the research was designed and drawn in six sections. Conclusion: Jürgen Habermas' theory of the public sphere is one of the sociological theories, which is close to the goals and mission of public libraries. On the other hand, the culture factor is a fundamental factor for playing the role of public libraries as community centers. In this regard, many people may still think that public libraries are a place only for reading, but a review of the various actions and activities of public libraries shows that these places carry out various activities that advance the cultural development of societies. In this way, public libraries play a prominent role in carrying out cultural activities. In order to fulfill its role as a community center, public libraries need to promote the native discourse of the society, be a safe arena for free discussion and understanding of different sections of the society, and spread culture in local communities.

Makerspaces are collaborative work spaces, within a library or other organization, in which people with common interests meet, socialize and collaborate around computing, technology, science or art. Today, makerspaces have become emerging spaces in public libraries worldwide, allowing communities to share resources and knowledge. The purpose of this research was to identify the use that makerspaces have in public libraries, through a systematic review of the literature. The bibliographic search was carried out in twelve information resources: Web of Science, Scopus, Taylor & Francis, E-lis, Dialnet, Oxford, ProQuest, Recolecta, La Referencia, ScienceDirect, Springer and Wiley Online. From thirty-one initial results, fourteen documents were selected for analysis. Three uses that are given to makerspaces in public libraries were identified, which are: participatory community, technology and learning factor. It is concluded that makerspaces are spaces that do not have a single use, rather, they can be used for various purposes, generating that these spaces adapt to the needs of the communities for which they are focused. COMMUNITY centers ,HIGH school seniors ,TELECOMMUNICATION ,RADIO stations ,FIELD research ,RADIO transmitters & transmission - Abstract
The historical remnants of the former Cililin Radio Transmitter area comprise the Cililin Radio Transmitter Building and the remnants of the Transformer Building, which served as tangible artifacts from the Dutch colonial era when it functioned as a radio transmission station. These remnants hold profound historical and archaeological significance, representing a bygone communication technology era. Cililin Radio Transmitter Building is interwoven with pivotal historical events, including the sovereignty transfer from the Netherlands to Indonesia in the Cililin region, and marks the inception of SMA N 1 Cililin (State Senior High School 1 Cililin). These structures' condition and surroundings were neglected, rendering them susceptible to deterioration. This led to the restoration and revitalization of this area to safeguard its historical value and make it accessible to the community. This design research aims to revitalize the former area. Cililin Radio Transmitter is a community center, where the process begins with studies related to revitalization to obtain design parameters that can be applied to the case. Therefore, this research and design will transform the former Cililin Radio Transmitter Area into a vibrant community center. A creative metaphorical approach was employed, which ensured the preservation of the buildings, amplification of the historical essence of the site, and the provision of community-oriented facilities. A qualitative method was used to analyze the objects through field surveys connected with literature related to revitalization and metaphorical architecture. The results showed that the adaptation and addition of new functions to the study objects rejuvenated the environment and accommodated the community's social activities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In a real-world, networked system, the ability to detect communities or clusters has piqued the concern of researchers in a wide range of fields. Many existing methods are simply meant to detect the membership of communities, not the structures of those groups, which is a limitation. We contend that community structures at the local level can also provide valuable insight into their detection. In this study, we developed a simple yet prosperous way of uncovering communities and their cores at the same time while keeping things simple. Essentially, the concept is founded on the theory that the structure of a community may be thought of as a high-density node surrounded by neighbors of minor densities and that community centers are located at a significant distance from one another. We propose a concept termed "community centrality" based on finding motifs to measure the probability of a node becoming the community center in a setting like this and then disseminate multiple, substantial center probabilities all over the network through a node closeness score mechanism. The experimental results show that the proposed method is more efficient than many other already used methods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This editorial synthesizes the findings of eight studies in the latest issue of Activities, Adaptation & Aging: Dignified and Purposeful Living for Older Adults. The findings encapsulate the factors that contribute to aging well and improving the quality of life for older adults, including active leisure participation, adopting leisure activities, animal interactions, community center involvement, individualized information, mental and physical well-being strategies, social resources and support, and volunteering. These factors not only inform practitioners working with older adults but also provide insights for individuals seeking to age well. The resilience of older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic is also discussed, emphasizing the importance of speaking positively about aging. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: There is a dearth of studies examining the association between the use of community centers for older adults and psychosocial factors. Thus, our aim was to examine the association between the use of community centers for older adults and psychosocial factors (in terms of loneliness, perceived social isolation, and life satisfaction; also stratified by sex)—which is important for successful aging. Methods/Design: Data were taken from a nationally representative sample—the German Ageing Survey—including older community‐dwelling individuals. The De Jong Gierveld tool was used to measure loneliness, the Bude and Lantermann tool was used to measure perceived social isolation, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale was used to quantify life satisfaction. Multiple linear regressions were used to evaluate the hypothesized associations. Results: In the analytical sample, n equaled 3246 individuals (mean age was 75 years, 65–97 years). After adjusting for various socioeconomic, lifestyle‐related, and health‐related covariates, multiple linear regressions showed that the use of community centers was associated with higher life satisfaction among men (β = 0.12, p < 0.01), but not women. The use of community centers was not associated with loneliness or perceived social isolation for either gender. Conclusions: The use of community centers was positively associated with satisfaction with one's own life among male older adults. Thus, encouraging older men to use such services may be beneficial. This quantitative study provides an initial basis for further research in this neglected area. For example, longitudinal studies are required to confirm our present findings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The establishment of kominkan, a public institution for social education in Japan, was proposed by the Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture (currently called the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) in 1946. Since then, the establishment of kominkan has progressed rapidly throughout Japan. In the meantime, regional autonomy should be broadened to regional management autonomy. Since 2014, the government has promoted the establishment of regional management organizations (RMOs) that implement projects with business perspectives and approaches. According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), kominkan play a significant role in the establishment of RMOs. In this research, we investigated and quantitatively analyzed (1) the status of RMOs across Japan for which kominkan, etc., are involved in their establishment and operation and (2) some pioneering examples. In our quantitative analysis, a questionnaire survey was conducted among the RMOs in 255 municipalities to understand the status of the base facilities in the establishment of RMOs and to clarify the relationship of the RMOs with kominkan. In our qualitative analysis, on‐site or online hearing surveys were conducted among the RMOs in eight municipalities where many activities were carried out, according to the results of our quantitative analysis. The results of those surveys showed that local governments took the lead in establishing RMOs in many cases and that the largest number of activities was carried out at the initiative of local governments at the community centers that are former kominkan. The survey results also revealed that kominkan and the community centers that are former kominkan contribute significantly to the establishment of RMOs. Considering that the main players in community development are residents, the support from local governments to RMOs should be examined and designed to encourage the independence of residents. Social education administration may play a proactive role in achieving this goal. It is said that community development is human development. RMOs should therefore focus on human resources development as their key mission. This is why we believe that the establishment of RMOs based on kominkan activities will lead to resident‐led community development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Third sector organizations are having more responsibilities than ever, responsibilities that once were under governmental liabilities (i.e., the first sector). The community center is one of the leading third sector organizations. These centers are part of the community, mainly operating non-formal education activities but also cultural and sports events and more. Although accumulating scientific evidence shows that the CEO has a pivotal role in shaping the organization's performance in business organizations, research concerning the CEO's role in the community center's performance is scant. Here we focused on the CEO's performance and hypothesized that it would reflect in the organizational performance. Further, since, in nature, the community center should be an integral part of the community, we also assessed the role of the CEO's community awareness. We surveyed 164 CEOs, employees, and board members of 55 community centers across Israel to examine our hypotheses. We measured the CEO's performance and community awareness, and the center's success as it reflects in participants' perceptions. As hypothesized, we found that both CEO's performance and community awareness positively correlate with the center's performance. Moreover, we found an interaction effect such that community awareness moderates the CEO's performance and the center's performance relationships. A simple slope analysis revealed that the correlation between the CEO's performance and the center's performance relationship is more robust for CEOs with high community awareness. We discuss theoretical and practical implications for the selection of CEOs.

Adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is associated with poor outcomes. We evaluated differences by facility type in the parameters of 6766 adult ALL patients ≥ 40 years of age diagnosed from 2004 to 2015 in the National Cancer DataBase (NCDB) and survival outcomes using two-sample t-tests or chi-square tests and Cox proportional hazards models. Those treated in academic facilities were younger (mean 58.5 versus 61.7 years, p < 0.001), Black (8.1% versus 5.6%, p < 0.001), had private insurance (50.9% versus 44.0%, p < 0.001), and more likely to receive chemotherapy (93.2% versus 81.4%, p < 0.001), any radiotherapy (14.9% versus 7.3%, p < 0.001), stem cell transplant (9.4% versus 2.5%, p < 0.001), or total body irradiation (TBI) (11.3% versus 4.3%, p < 0.001). Patients treated at an academic facility had a higher hazard of death (p<.05) while those that received any chemotherapy or TBI or CNS radiation had a lower risk of death (all p < 0.05). These parameters should be evaluated in future studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

“Active citizenship in the community sector in Slovakia and the Czech Republic has been developing with an ever-increasing intensity. People are gathering more frequently based on their common interests; the number of communities of interest is growing and they are becoming more active.” (Pauliniová, 2018) I perceive the negative impact on people of the digitized world and social media oversaturation as a reason for the increasing number of neighboring communities and various civic associations. Architecture internationally responds promptly to the needs of active communities. There is an increased demand for facilities that reflect the community’s needs and “provide space for people who have similar interests, but often differ as to their social, age, religious, and political backgrounds, who come to play, to learn to work together for personal satisfaction and/or community improvements”. (Yasmin, Parvin, 2018) New community centers have acquired an important role in community development. Their design for program fulfillment, ecology, and inclusivity are creating an image of the community they serve. Community architecture provides a broad scope waiting to be researched; especially in Slovakia, this type of architecture is still an unexplored phenomenon. There is a scarcity of information from community architecture theory and its implementation in practice. This paper elaborates on the design concept of community centers.

This research aims to analyze the socio-economic conditions and urban planning features influence on scientific approach and multifunctional complexes hypotheses throughout history. A retrospective analysis of scientific theory, socio-economic and political conditions, and territorial planning city trends helped to identify the specifics of the cultural and social service sector and multifunctional complexes, as the most effective form of public construction development. The idea of multifunctionality as a scientific hypothesis evolved from the objective tasks to revive national economy in the early twenty century and was initially implemented by residential complexes with a developed system of public functions to balance work, leisure, and rest for workers. The planning aspect is revealed through the linear city concepts and new system of resettlement. Later, the function diversity principle was implemented within the development of the citywide center system. The efficacy of multifunctional public construction has been proven over the years; however, modern social, economic, and ecological conditions require different scientific approaches to consider the multifunctional public buildings as an urban planning subsystem requiring interrelated development within the model of territorial spatial environments. The novelty of the research lies in defining modern scientific approaches to the urban planning subsystem of the multifunctional public complexes.

This article presents and analyzes the survival strategies of the Gusti School during 1939-1948. The specialized literature includes consistent information about the Gusti School, the monographs and research carried out, the School’s publications and the institutions in which the members of the Gusti School have been active. However, this article points out the important moments of the gustist activity after 1939, as forms of survival, through the documentary analysis of the texts published at that time, the documents of the Romanian Academy, as well as the subsequent sociological materials. An important part of the actions that indicate a certain type of strategy were extracted: journalism, the insistence to increase the sociological activity, even in conditions of war or the work carried out in different administrative positions. How was the activity of the Gusti School viewed after 1939 and what were the survival strategies? What were the main methods and strategies for promoting the Gusti School? In what (emergency) formula did the student teams continue their work? Is it possible to research in a time of war? Answering all these questions, we conclude that during 1939-1948, despite oppressive actions and purges targeting the Gusti School, its representatives managed to impose themselves, continuing the work to the limit allowed by the given political situations.

Objectives: Depression in the elderly has become a serious health-care issue worldwide. In this study, we intended to evaluate the prevalence of depressive tendency among community-dwelling elderly in Nantou Prefecture, to assess sociodemographic factor in relation to depression, and to compare the characteristics of different community centers. Methods: We enrolled 133 old adult dwellers in five community centers in Nantou City and Zhongliao Township in Nantou Prefecture, Taiwan. Demographic and medical information was collected and participants filled Chinese versions of the Geriatric Depression Scale-Short Form (GDS-15). Results: The cutoff point of GDS-15 was set above 5. The prevalence of depressive tendency in community centers in Nantou was 24.1%. Multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that having financial strain (odds ratio [OR] = 4.698, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.90–12.70, p < 0.01) and physical illness (OR = 2.144, 95% CI = 1.09–4.24, p < 0.01) were significant risk factors of depressive symptoms in this sample. However, no significant difference was found in depression in seniors between suburban and rural community. Conclusion: This result showed that depression was common in Nantou City and Zhongliao Township. Having financial strain and physical illness were the significant risk factors for depression in seniors. The intervention to reduce depressive symptoms in the elderly should include strategies about addressing those risk factors in local community.

- Abstract
Purpose: Certain concepts of sports training indicate that permanent and rational football training is conditioned by many interdependent factors. They create a specific quality of sports activities on the basis of the diagnosed needs and requirements of all participants of physical education. An important issue of qualitative activities is the consolidation of the desired attitudes, both declarative and practical. This involves the possibility of modifying the adopted stereotypes. The research material concerns itself with the level of organization and educational impact in relation to a selected group of young footballers. The aim of the article is to identify the quality of impacts in sport in an example of the physical education class at a community center. Design / methodology / approach: The subject of the research concerned the analysis of training, in view of the acquisition of instrumental processes, of a selected physical activities class taking place at a school community center. in the city of Bydgoszcz. To assess the qualitative aspect, the dialogue method was used (mutual exchange of thoughts and views), which involved young players and a football instructor, whereas the quantitative aspect concerned three simple football attempts in the area of motor coordination. The benchmark was to compare the results of the training individuals to the non-training individuals. Methods - three tests of special fitness; U-Mann Whitney statistical test. 39 young people (13-14 years old) were tested. Findings: A significant difference was discovered between the football skills of young people from the studied groups (to the advantage of participants of the community center classes). Research and practical limitations / implications: Raising the quality level of specific sports activities consists in the development of regulatory processes that guide the continuous improvement of all entities involved in education. Originalility / value: The research work and pedagogical approach of the teachers of the instructors should be an innovation process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) represents a complex of neurological and developmental deficits characterized by a lack of social interaction and communication together with a series of restrictive, repetitive behaviors and stereotypes (APA, 2013). National reports show a growing rate of the spectrum starting with 2009. Meanwhile, national NGOs estimate a double number of cases due to a high number of unreported situations, undiagnosed children or children who have no access to services. The lack of statistical data regarding children diagnosed with autism could make us say the condition is considered to be invisible in Romania. The current paper presents a short history of the diagnostic and continues by presenting the current status of ASD in Romania. Also, is presented a case study of the evolution of the first community center for children with ASD in Romania, developed by the Casa Faenza Association in Timişoara, Romania. Finally, the paper highlights some of the main problems like the lack of a unique methodology for collecting data on individuals with ASD and unitary databases across the country. - Abstract
At the border between sea and land, Haninge and Nynäshamn, nature reserve and local community, Arschipelag archipelago Center emerges. By bridging these boundaries, the project anchors and interweaves the different elements of the site, creating a focal point accessible from both the mainland and the Baltic Sea. The convergence of borders takes place in a bay near Gamla Nynäsvägen, a forgotten strip of land with a view of the fjord. Based on the need to provide access to water and adjacent nature reserves, highlight the municipally overlooked urban area, and leverage the communication opportunities offered by the location both at sea and on land, the program has been formulated. As a node for visitors from both directions, the project aims to showcase the qualities of the surrounding area and the archipelago through an archipelago center that caters to a broad audience. It serves as a meeting place and anchor point for residents and stakeholders of the archipelago, a learning hub that enables knowledge exchange for visitors, and an attraction that activates the surrounding area. Inspired by the site's rich history and marine typologies, the project has been designed with occasionally contrasting keywords: solidity and lightness, low- and high-tech, framing and shielding. Nearby ancient remains have shaped the substantial ground plane, to carry the symbolically and geographically traversing upper plane. The truss structure extends horizontally, framing the uninterrupted passage to the water and gently landing on the lower fort.

The purpose of this project is to put the community in focus. Creating a hybrid building where different activities can take place under one roof was the core of the thesis. Combining the needs and the potential of the surroundings resulted in an unexpected yet seemingly working mix. This lively public center serves as a multipurpose hub and provides a wide array of amenities and facilities to meet the needs of the neighborhood as well as the bypassers. A flour mill, restaurants, offices, outdoor areas, and meeting rooms are all included in the center, which creates a vibrant and welcoming environment for a range of activities and interactions. This building represents the need and the potential. To put Lidatorp on the map, making it a hub in between Nynäshamn and Ösmo. To give the people of Lidatorp a public place. To make it profitable and use the potential the surroundings give, use the field and make a flour mill with supporting facilities like a restaurant and cooking classes.

- Abstract
Genom att leka med tanken om flera stugor sammansvetsade i en rad s, In an analysis of Lidatorp, a smaller settlement in Nynäshamn municipality, it was concluded that activation of the surrounding nature area for recreational purposes would have a positive impact on society both in terms of well-being and exercise as well as regional attraction. The region around Lidatorp-Björsta exhibits significant potential for outdoor activities and can serve as a node within a larger sports and outdoor context. Notably, the presence of Sörmlandsleden and local associations such as Ösmoscoutkår, Friluftsfrämjandet, and Nynäshamns Brukshundsklubb, lacking their own premises, along with an active commitment to sports like climbing and paddling, underscores the need for a dedicated center for outdoor life and exercise in the area. This proposed project aims to provide local citizens, scouts, school students, and sports enthusiasts with new opportunities for active outdoor lifestyles during both school hours and leisure time. A classroom in the forest and an equipment bank stocked with bicycles, tents, camping equipment, canoes, life jackets, etc. will make nature and sports available to more people. The presence of adjacent meeting rooms and spaces for association activities enhances the vibrancy of the building, ensuring a constant buzz of activity throughout the day. The strategic location of the center, with convenient connections to commuter trains from Stockholm and buses from Nynäshamn and Ösmo, aims to establish it as a popular destination for excursions, promoting interest in outdoor activities and exercise in nature. The design has been characterized by trying to tackle a difficult terrain but at the same time being cautious towards the existing landscape and nature. The layout of the plan has been influenced by the program's requirements, with key activities such as the climbing center (providing indoor bouldering), the canoe house, and the meeting rooms serving as primary nodes that respond to both challenges and opportunities presented b

- Abstract
Access to energy is an important part in the development of most countries and societies, linked to both social and economic growth. Nevertheless, 70% of the population in sub-Saharan Africa does not have access to electricity, which brings consequences to several of these areas. A country to which this largely applies is Mozambique, where the percentage of the country's population that had access to electricity in 2021 was only 31.5%. Working towards the goal of electrifying the least developed countries in a sustainable way, solar technology is believed to have potential to play a vital role, as 60% of the best terrestrial-based global solar resources of the world are located in sub-Saharan Africa. Mini-grids and solar off-grid solutions can further help address the issue of lack of electricity access, especially in rural areas. In previous studies carried out in the village Linga Linga in Mozambique, off-grid solar solutions have been implemented for a small energy demand. With the intention of giving a larger part of the village’s population access to energy services such as light, phone charging and computer access, this thesis will investigate and design an off-grid PV system for a community center in the village. The main research question that will be answered in this report is "How can solar energy be used to supply a community center in the village Linga Linga with a low-cost, reliable and sustainable electricity supply?". To answer the research question, relevant data and information were collected through a literature study on the situation in Mozambique, off-grid PV systems and on PV system components such as inverters, batteries, PV panels and charge controllers. Interviews were also carried out in the village to be able to calculate the expected energy demand of the community center. The community center’s daily energy demand for weekends was estimated to be the highest, at 7 544 Wh with a maximum power demand of 1 230 W. To meet this requirement, the, Tillgång till energi är en viktig del i utvecklingen av de flesta länder och samhällen, kopplat till både social och ekonomisk tillväxt.
