Abstract

After a presentation of the irrigation context in Portugal, the authors of this paper review the robustness of two modelling approaches and their combination to better programme irrigation campaigns at plot scale. Two application cases are presented and discussed: one on a horticultural crop with shallow roots (Capsicum annuum L. 'Pompeo F1') and the other on a woody crop with deep roots (Olea europea 'Arbequina').

Abstract

In acid soils, when no‐tillage farmers intend to apply lime, the question arises as to whether it should be incorporated into the soil or whether it can be left on the soil surface. In this study, two types of limestone, calcitic (Lcal) and dolomitic (Lmag), were tested in two olive groves of cv. Cobrançosa, with an initial pH of 4.9 (S. Pedro) and 5.5 (Raparigas). In S. Pedro, limestone was incorporated into the soil (Lburied) and in Raparigas, it was left on the floor (Lfloor). The use of limestone significantly increased soil pH in the 0–0.10 m layer in both experiments. In the 0.10–0.20 m soil layer, only Lmag increased significantly the soil pH in comparison with the control. Lmag was more effective than Lcal in increasing cation exchange capacity (CEC) and reducing exchangeable acidity (EA) and aluminium (Al3+) in the Lfloor experiment. Both limes increased leaf calcium (Ca) concentration, and Lmag increased the leaf levels of magnesium (Mg). In Lfloor experiment (higher soil pH), soil microbial carbon (C) decreased, and microbial nitrogen (N) increased with liming, which may indicate an increase in bacteria in the soil and a decrease in fungi. In Lburied experiment (initial pH of 4.9), liming significantly increased accumulated (2018–2021) olive yield (56 and more than 67 kg tree−1, respectively, in the control and liming treatments). In Lfloor experiment (initial pH of 5.5), the accumulated olive yields did not differ significantly between treatments (average values between 105 and 115 kg tree−1). The results of this study provide evidence that liming may increase olive yield in very acid soils and that dolomitic limestone should preferably be used by no‐tillage farmers, due its higher solubility and faster effect on soil and trees. Abstract

The high level of consumer awareness regarding healthy, nature-based and sustainable products, place kernels from Pinus pinea L. (stone pine) at the top of the list of non-wood forest products to be explored from an economic perspective in the Mediterranean basin. To meet this growing demand, efforts are being made to domesticate the species and increase its production potential. This study presents the results of a fertirrigation experiment carried out in a stone pine stand planted in 2010 and grafted at the age of 3. The experimental design comprises 2 blocks of 3 plots each established in a surface drip irrigation system with 3 treatments: a Control (C), a first level of fertirrigation (FR) and a second level of fertirrigation (2FR) which corresponds to the double of water and fertilization added to the first level. The fertirrigation treatment (FR) comprised a supplement of 41 mm (8 %) of water to the natural hydrological year precipitation, on average, from 2014 to 2021, combined with an annual input of 100 kg ha-1 of an NPK fertiliser (20 N:15P 2 O 5 :15K 2 O) added during the dry season (late spring to early autumn) in the irrigation system. The 2FR treatment received the double. Radial growth, shoot and needle elongation, needle nitrogen content, female strobili production and mortality and cone production (number and weight) were evaluated over 6 years. The number of female strobili per unit crown area did not vary between treatments in any year. However, growth variables indicated an improved physiological condition of the 2FR trees, especially during spring and summer, resulting in an overall 60 % increase of female strobili that completed the ripening cycle compared to C trees. A 65 % increase in the number of cones produced in the 2FR compared to the C was found, but this effect was only significant during one mast year and after a continuous five-year fertirrigation application. We observed that internal resources accumulation played a significant role in the masting habit of the species, ensuring the survival of female strobili even during a severe drought. Although the fertirrigation applied during the period of water scarcity did not allow a year-to-year regulation of cone production, the results highlight an opportunity to increase production potential by intensifying the use of water and fertilizers. Such investments should be carefully analysed from an economic standpoint, especially in Mediterranean countries where climate change is forcing a more responsible and sustainable use of water in the future. • Pinus pinea produces one of the most valuable and nutritious kernel in the world. • Its domestication is currently underway using fertirrigation (FR). • FR increased 1st year conelets survival but not its production per crown area. • Annual cone production regulation failed but cone yield increased in a mast year. • Internal resource reserves are strongly involved in masting. Abstract

Feature heterogeneity and diagnostic overlap occur regularly among patients in clinical settings. In interpersonal reconstructive therapy (IRT), a case formulation focused on patterns learned in close attachment relationships guides intervention choices. This study illustrates how IRT formulation and treatment proceed, and how it may also fail when there is not close adherence to underlying principles. Don is a music professor in his 40's with a significant trauma history and complex diagnostic profile that includes many hospitalizations and suicide attempts. He qualified for several diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders personality disorders via formal diagnostic interviews (obsessive‐compulsive, avoidant, passive‐aggressive, narcissistic), as well as major depression, generalized anxiety, and substance abuse. Don's formulation demonstrates how self‐destruction can function as a "gift of love" to internalized representations of important caregivers. Data from work with patients like Don confirm the usefulness of Benjamin's IRT lens for navigating comorbidity, as well as the importance of underlying principles of change. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

O objectivo principal desta investigação foi a adaptação para a população portuguesa do Questionário da Relação de Supervisão (versão reduzida) - versão supervisando (QRS-r-supervisando). A importância deste constructo na satisfação com a supervisão, no desenvolvimento do terapeuta e na eficácia terapêutica motivaram esta investigação. Realizou-se uma tradução do questionário, seguida de retroversão e de um pré-teste a um pequeno grupo de estudantes de Psicologia, em supervisão. Posteriormente procedeu-se com a investigação recrutando-se 90 psicólogos clínicos/psicoterapeutas em supervisão. Aplicou-se também o Questionário Revisto de Personalidade de Eysenck (adaptação Almiro & Simões, 2013) para efeitos de validade divergente e o CASES (adaptação Lamares & Conceição, 2012) para efeitos de validade preditiva. Os resultados, a partir da análise factorial, sugerem uma medida composta por 17 itens divididos pelas mesmas três subescalas da medida original (Base Segura, Educação Reflexiva e Estrutura) e propriedades psicométricas adequadas (validade factorial, fiabilidade compósita e validade divergente). Discute-se a utilidade da medida e o seu valor prático bem como aspectos para futuras investigações. The main objective of this study was the adaptation to Portuguese of a questionnaire of supervisory relationship - short version of the Supervisory Relationship Questionnaire (supervisee version). The lack of national measures on this construct and its importance to the satisfaction with the supervision, development of the trainee and to the effectiveness of supervision motivated this investigation. Ninety clinical psychologists/psychotherapists in supervision were recruited. To adapt this questionnaire we made a translation, a retroversion, a pretest. The participants also completed the Short-scale Eysenck Personality Questionnaire Revised (adaptation Almiro & Simões, 2013) to ascertain divergent validity and the CASES (adaptation Lamares & Conceição, 2012) to determine the predictive validity. A small adjustment was made, in the confirmatory factorial analysis. The results show a measure composed of 17 items divided by the same three subscales of the original measure. Adequate psychometric properties (internal consistency, factorial validity and divergent validity) have been demonstrated. The utility and practical application of this measure and suggestions for future research are discussed.

Abstract

The synthesis, crystal structures and magnetic properties are reported for three novel mixed-valence tetranuclear [Mn II2 Mn III2 (HBuDea)2(BuDea)2(EBA)4] (1), [Mn II2 Mn III2 (HBuDea)2(BuDea)2(DMBA)4] (2) and undecanuclear [Mn II3 Mn III8 O4(OH)2(BuDea)6(DMBA)8] (3) clusters, where H2BuDea is N-butyldiethanolamine, HEBA is 2-ethylbutyric acid and HDMBA is 2,2-dimethylbutyric acid. The compounds have been prepared through self-assembly reactions of manganese(II) chloride with H2BuDea and respective carboxylic acid in methanol solution in air, affording 1 with HEBA, and 2 or 3 with HDMBA, depending on the experimental conditions. The single crystal X-ray analysis reveals that 1 and 2 have similar centrosymmetric structures based on the {M4(μ3-O)2(μ-O)4} core, while 3 discloses the unprecedented {M11(μ-O)4(μ3-O)12} one. The Mn4 complexes display single-molecule magnet (SMM) behavior with a S = 9 spin ground state and a high energy barrier Ueff/kB of up to 51 K. The magnetic properties of 2 are successfully modeled with JMnIII–MnIII/hc = 25.7 cm−1 and two JMnIII–MnII/hc constants of 3.1 and −0.93 cm−1 (data correspond to the Ĥ = −J1·2 formalism). The Mn11 cluster exhibits a paramagnetic behavior with dominant antiferromagnetic coupling. A possible influence of intermolecular effects and of different peripheries of the magnetic cores designed by using 2-ethylbutyrate (in 1) or 2,2-dimethylbutyrate (in 2) on the magnetic properties of 1 and 2 is discussed. The experimental magnetostructural correlations for the {Mn II2 Mn III2 (μ3-O)2(μ-O)4} cores, supported by broken symmetry DFT calculations, disclose the X–MnIII⋯MnIII angle and MnIII–O distance (where MnIII–X and MnIII–O are axial Jahn–Teller bonds) as the structural factors having the strongest influence on JMnIII–MnIII exchange coupling. It is shown that two JMnIII–MnII constants are necessary for the correct description of magnetic exchange couplings in the {Mn II2 Mn III2 (μ3-O)2(μ-O)4} tetranuclear unit. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Aims: In this study on hydraulic redistribution (HR) in roots, we aimed to use the calibrated average-gradient (CAG) heat-pulse method, the novelty being the use of a much narrower averaging window for the signal analysis, in order to achieve a more linear calibration curve, allowing the HR quantification. Methods: The study was conducted in 12 large roots of a rain-fed olive orchard, for 6 months without significant rain, when the predawn leaf water potential decreased to −2.4 MPa, and immediately following the first autumn rains. Results: Detailed numerical modelling of the CAG method allowed verification of the response of the measurement system to a range of drivers, improving the linear range of the calibration response function, which has remained stable over the observations period. On average, reverse flow was observed during 30% of the summer nights and, in a conservative estimate, it increased to about 5% of total daily root flow before first autumn rain. Conclusions: Reverse flow accounted on average for 2.6% of the total daily root flow, enabling upper roots to stay active during the very dry late-summer period. In qualitative terms, our results confirm the CAG method as a reliable tool to identify reverse flow and quantify HR when it occurs

39. Movimentação e Diferenciação Narrativa ao Longo do Processo Terapêutico: Um Estudo de Caso Longitudinal à Luz do Modelo de Complementaridade Paradigmática

Abstract

As narrativas são frequentemente consideradas o meio por excelência de reconhecimento e reorganização da experiência interna dos pacientes. Neste estudo procurou-se diferenciar e identificar potenciais marcadores narrativos de capacidade de processamento e, ao quantificá-los em diferentes momentos do processo terapêutico, verificar se existia evidência a favor da proposta de sequencialização do trabalho terapêutico do Meta-modelo de Complementaridade Paradigmática, em termos de estratégias gerais. Foram definidos, reconhecidos e analisados processos narrativos a nível molecular (a partir da revisão de literatura) e a nível molar (a partir da teoria do meta-modelo supra-referido) . Em ambos os casos, enfatizou-se as formas e capacidades de processamento da informação em detrimento dos conteúdos narrados. Os resultados evidenciaram diferenciação e movimentação entre as fases consideradas para processos moleculares e molares, e nestes últimos reconheceu-se um padrão de progressão narrativa de acordo com a sequencialidade proposta pelo modelo, para as fases em estudo. Narratives are frequently considered the best means for recognizing and reorganizing patients’ internal experience. In this study we tried to differentiate and identify potential narrative markers of processing capacity and, by quantifying them at different moments in the therapeutic process, check if there was evidence in favor of the proposal of sequencing of the therapeutic work, in terms of general strategies, as postulated by the Meta-model of Paradigmatic Complementarity. Narrative processes were defined, recognized and analyzed at a molecular level (based on literature review on narrative) and at a molar level (based on the meta-model identified above). In both cases processing capacities were emphasized rather than the narrated contents. Both at the molecular and molar levels, the results show differentiation and movement along the phases under scrutiny. Besides, a pattern of narrative progression was recognized at the molar level, according to the sequence proposed by the meta-model regarding the phases tapped.

O espaço construído, o cadastro que a arquitectura desde sempre nos lega, e que vai definindo o território, torna a realidade tangível, gerando uma arqueologia, testemunho, memória e história dos povos e das sociedades, no devir de filosofias, políticas e sistemas sociais. Ao evoluirmos para um contexto de uniformização, de expansão e de densificação exponencial do espaço urbano, para a cidade fragmentada, continuamente consumida ao ritmo televisivo, igual a si, representando-se a si própria, em que nos deslocamos entre descontinuidades de 'zapping' pela alternância de lugares e não lugares, estaremos a caminhar para um mundo incapaz de se ver a si próprio, porque para ele só ele existe, incapaz de focalizar rque não existe fora, pois ele é único e total.

44. Combination of Phenylsilsesquioxane and Acetate Ligands as an Approach to a Record High Nuclear Cu13Na2‐Cage. Synthesis, Unique Structure, and Catalytic Activity.

Abstract

Self‐assembly synthesis of mixed‐ligand (silsesquioxane/acetate) complex allows to isolate record high nuclear copper(II) Cu13‐cage (1). In the presence of two additional sodium ions, a unique molecular architecture, with triple combination of ligands (cyclic and acyclic silsesquioxanes as well as acetates), has been formed. The structure was established by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction based on the use of synchrotron radiation. Complex 1 was evaluated as precatalyst in the Baeyer–Villiger oxidation of cyclohexanone towards ϵ‐caprolactone, employing hydrogen peroxide, tert‐butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) or m‐chloroperoxybenzoic acid (mCPBA) as oxidants, in an aqueous acidic acetonitrile medium. The direct formation of the lactone from cyclohexane via a tandem peroxidative oxidation/Baeyer–Villiger oxidation was also studied. For both substrates, the best results (ϵ‐caprolactone yields up to 100 % or 26 %, from cyclohexanone or cyclohexane, respectively) were achieved with mCPBA under considerably mild conditions, i. e., conventional heating at 50 °C for 4 h or microwave (MW) irradiation at 80 °C for only 30 minutes. Abstract

Universidade de Lisboa A protecção fitossanitária das plantas lenhosas e respectivos encargos são, respectivamente, uma componente muito importante dos ciclos produtivos e dos custos de produção. Esta importância advém dos encargos com capital e mão-de-obra, bem como dos custos passíveis de se associarem às externalidades em consequência dos possíveis efeitos (quando negativos), no ambiente e na saúde humana. Adicionalmente, a tomada de decisão pouco fundamentada para realização de tratamentos fitossanitários, aumenta a probabilidade de ineficácia e, consequentemente, induz perdas de produção e/ou a realização de um maior número de tratamentos para controlar a praga ou doença. Estratégias de controlo fitossanitário baseadas neste pressuposto representam uma ameaça para a preservação do ambiente e da biodiversidade dos ecossistemas. O desenvolvimento de ferramentas exactas para previsão do risco de perdas de produção e sua importância económica representa uma grande vantagem no sector agrícola, pois possibilitam a optimização dos tratamentos fitossanitários, orientando-os para os momentos em que são mais efectivos. Neste trabalho contribuiu-se para o desenvolvimento de duas ferramentas aptas para investigação epidemiológica em plantas lenhosas: sistemas de simulação climática (SSC, modelo físico do patossistema) e modelos matemáticos mecanicistas. Da implementação do modelo de Rossi et al. (2008) em R resultou um programa designado de PlasmoparaviticolaRossietal2008.R. Da sua execução, com dados recolhidos numa vinha não tratada, identificou-se o período do inóculo primário entre 26/01/2021 e 15/05/2021. Neste período formaram-se 25 cohorts de oósporos, destes, apenas quatro causariam infecção e seriam causa do aparecimento de manchas de óleo nas folhas no final de Fevereiro, fim de Abril e início de Maio. Apenas foram observadas manchas de óleo no início de Maio, a 08/05/2021. O SSC conseguiu simular adequadamente condições que asseguraram a infecção artificial das plantas. Os ensaios realizados permitiram quantificar e caracterizar a susceptibilidade das variedades Aragonez, Carignan, Chambourcin e Regent ao míldio N/A
