Impatiens longyangensis and I. yaojiapingensis, two new species from Gaoligong Mountains, Yunnan, China, are described here. The former species is morphologically similar to I. shangjiangensis, but differs by its shorter petioles and peduncle, ovate bract, shortly saccate lower sepal with a longer spur and suborbicular dorsal petal. The latter is similar to I. sterilis, and differs by its pubescent leaf, petiole with one to three pairs of clavate glands, persistent bract, lower sepal with a straight spur and suborbicular dorsal petal. Molecular phylogenetic analysis based on nuclear ITS and plastid atpB-rbcL sequences shows that the two new species belong to I. sect. Racemosae.

2. Impatiens yaojiapingensis Y.Y.Cong, G.W.Hu & T.Hu, sp. nov. (Figure 2: A–I) Diagnosis: —The new species is morphologically similar to I. sterilis, but can be easily distinguished by oblong or oblong-ovate (vs. oblong to ovate) lamina that is sparsely pubescent (vs. glabrous) on both surfaces, petiole with 1–3 pairs of clavate glands (vs. with 1 pair of sessile globose glands), ± puberulent (vs. glabrous) peduncle, persistent (vs. caducous) bract, and lower sepal narrowing into a straight (vs. incurved) spur. A more detailed morphological comparison of the two species is provided in Table 3. Type: — CHINA. Yunnan, Lushui City, Luzhang Town, Yaojiaping, moist places on the roadside, 25°58’48.96”N, 98°42’34.87”E, elev. 2464m, 14 July 2021, Shuai Peng PS-00447 (holotype: HNNU!, isotype: HIB!). Annual herb, 60–100 cm tall. Stem erect, robust, base 1.2 cm in diam, much branched. Leaves alternate, often aggregated or subverticillate on upper part of stem. Petioles 2–5 cm long at middle and lower stem, shortly petiolate or subsessile on upper stem, with 1–3 pairs of clavate glands. Lamina 7–15× 2.5–5.8 cm, membranaceous, oblong or oblong-ovate, sparsely pubescent on both surfaces, apex long acuminate, base cuneate, margin crenate-serrate, setose between marginal teeth, lateral veins 7–10 pairs. Inflorescences racemose or corymbose, 4–11-flowered, terminal or axillary (at the later stage of the florescence, some reduced sterile inflorescences with slender and filiform peduncle produced on inner side of the fertile inflorescences); peduncle 1.2–3.8 cm long, slender, ± puberulent; pedicels 1.1–2.2 cm long, slender, with a bract at base; bract 4–5× 2–3 mm, ovate, persistent. Flowers yellow or pale purple, 2.5–3.5 cm long; lateral sepals 4, the outer 2 obliquely ovate, 7.3–8.8 × 4–5 mm, apex mucronate, the inner 2 extremely small, linear, ca. 1.5 mm long. Lower sepal saccate, 1–1.3 cm deep excluding spur, 1–1.6 cm wide, tip of mouth with a small rostellum, base abruptly narrowed into a straight spur, spur 1.2–1.7 cm long; dorsal petal suborbicular, base suborbicular, abaxial midvein slightly thickened, 7.5–11× 6.5–8.5 mm; lateral united petals shortly clawed, 2-lobed, basal lobes ovate, 10.8–14× 5.3–8 mm, apex acuminate, distal lobes lanceolate, 9–14× 4–6.8 mm, auricle inflexed. Stamens 5, 6–6.8 mm, filaments linear, free for ca. 1/2 their length; anthers ovoid, joined into a ring surrounding ovary apex, apex obtuse; ovary superior, 5-carpellate, erect with axile placentation, fusiform, 4–5.3 mm long. Capsule linear, 2.5–4 cm long, apex acuminate, 5-valved, fleshy. Seeds brown, oblong, ca. 3 mm. Distribution and ecology: — Impatiens yaojiapingensis was only found in the central Gaoligong Mountains. It grows in moist places on the roadside at elevations of 2464–3012 m. The main associated species included Rubus Linnaeus (1753: 492) sp., Rhododendron Linnaeus (1753: 392) sp., Pteris Linnaeus (1753: 1073) sp., Elatostema Forst & Forst (1776: 105) sp. Etymology: —The specific epithet “ yaojiapingensis ” refers to the type locality, Yaojiaping, Lushui City, Yunnan Province. The Chinese name is “ 姚ṽ坪ū仙ĸ ”. Phenology: —Flowering and fruiting of this new species is from early July to late October. Micromorphological observations:—Seeds: oblong, 3.72 (3.61–3.83) × 1.98 (1.96–1.99) mm, L (long)/W (wide) = 1.88, surface with highly elevated epidermal cells and irregular granules, elevated cells appear finger like with granular appendages and holes on the surface and part of epidermal cells with short filiform derivants (Figure 3: D–F). Pollen grains: oblong in polar view, 29.85 (27.44–31.27) × 13.71 (12.30–14.84) μm, 4-colpate, exine with reticulate ornamentation, densely granulate in lumen (Figure 3: G–I). 1. Impatiens longyangensis Y.Y.Cong, G.W.Hu & S.Peng, sp. nov. (Figure 1: A–F) Diagnosis: —The new species is morphologically similar to Impatiens shangjiangensis Y.Y.Cong & J.Z.Gu in Gu et al. (2021:197), but can be easily distinguished by having shorter petiole without clavate glands (vs. a pair of clavate glands), ovate-lanceolate or lanceolate (vs. oblong or ovate-oblong) lamina, 2.2–5 cm (vs. 6–13 cm) long peduncle with sparsely puberulent (vs. glabrous) base, ovate (vs. linear or narrowly lanceolate) bract, shortly saccate lower sepal with a longer spur (18.3–24.3 mm vs. 6–11 mm), suborbicular (vs. reniform) dorsal petal and ovate (vs. suborbicular) basal lobes with an acuminate (vs. obtuse) apex. A more detailed morphological comparison of the two species is provided in Table 2. Type: — CHINA. Annual herb, 40–100 cm tall. Stem erect, much branched. Leaves alternate, often aggregated on upper part of stem. Petioles 0.9–1.6 cm long at middle and lower stem, subsessile on upper stem. Lamina 7.3–14.8× 2.1–4.5 cm, ovatelanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, membranous, adaxially green and sparsely puberulent, abaxially gray-green and glabrous, apex long acuminate, base cuneate, margin crenate-serrate, setose between marginal teeth, lateral veins 8–12 pairs. Inflorescences racemose, terminal or axillary, 4–13-flowered; peduncle 2.2–5 cm long, slender, sparsely puberulent at base; pedicels 1.1–2.8 cm long, slender, with a bract at base; bract 2.8–3.5× 2–2.8 mm, ovate, persistent. Flowers pale purple, 3–3.2 cm long. Lateral sepals 2, 4–5× 2.3–3 mm, obliquely ovate, apex acuminate. Lower sepal shortly saccate, 9–11 mm deep excluding spur, 8.5–11.3 mm wide, tip of mouth with a small rostellum, base gradually narrowed into a spur, spur 18.3–24.3 mm long, the distal part of spur strongly recurved and S-shaped; dorsal petal suborbicular, base broadly cuneate, abaxial midvein slightly thickened, 8.3–10.5× 8–10.5 mm; lateral united petals shortly clawed, 2-lobed, basal lobes ovate, 6.5–9.3× 4–6 mm, apex acuminate, distal lobes narrowly dolabriform, 12–18.8× 6.5–8 mm, auricle inflexed. Stamens 5, 7.3–8.3 mm long, filaments linear, free for ca. 1/2 their length; anthers ovoid, joined into a ring surrounding ovary apex, apex obtuse. Ovary superior, 5-carpellate, erect with axile placentation, fusiform, ca 5 mm long. Capsule linear, 2–2.5 cm long, apex acuminate, 5-valved, fleshy. Seeds brown, oblong, ca. 3 mm long. Distribution and ecology:— Impatiens longyangensis is only found in the central Gaoligong Mountains. It grows in moist places under the forests on the roadside at elevations of 2391–2420m. The main associated species included Acer Linnaeus (1753: 1054) sp., Phoebe Nees (1836: 98) sp., Vitis Linnaeus (1753: 202) sp., Rubus Linnaeus (1753: 492) sp. Etymology:—The specific epithet “ longyangensis ” refers to the type locality, Longyang District, Baoshan City, Yunnan Province. The Chinese name is “ ẕșū仙ĸ ”. Phenology:—Flowering and fruiting of this new species is from early September to mid-November. Micromorphological observations:—Seeds: oblong, 2.88 (2.67–3.09) × 1.59 (1.57–1.60) mm, L (long)/W (wide) = 1.81, surface of seed coat with conspicuously elevated cells and irregular granules, elevated epidermal cells unevenly with granular appendages and holes on the surface (Figure 3: A–C). Conservation status:—Two populations composed of ca. 400 individuals have been found in the Gaoligong Mountains National Nature Reserve, where little interference from human activities occurs. (Figures 1, 2: A���D) Diagnosis: ���The new species is morphologically similar to Impatiens davidii, but can be distinguished with the latter by its lateral sepals suborbicular, 1���1.5 cm in diameter, midrib ridged dorsally, lateral veins reticulate and sunk on the abaxial surface with bullate projections among veins; dorsal petal broadly ovate, 1���1.5 �� 1.5���2 cm, dorsally with a green narrow arcuate cristate crest. Stamens up to 4 mm long, filaments linear, slightly swollen above; anthers ovoid-orbicular, apex obtuse. Ovary erect, fusiform. Capsule linear, 2.8���3.5 cm long. Seed unknown. Distribution and ecology: ��� Impatiens bullatisepala is currently known only from the type locality in Fanjing Mountain, Guizhou Province, China. It grows under the moist evergreen broad-leaved forests along the side of a creek. Etymology: ���The specific epithet ��� bullatisepala ��� refers to the lateral sepals with bullate projections netted in sunk reticulate veins on abaxial surface. The Chinese name is ��������������"���. Phenology: ���The new species was observed flowering from September to October, fruiting from October to November. Phylogenetic position: ���Bayesian phylogenetic analyses of the combined ITS and atpB-rbcL datasets proved its position within the Impatiens sect. A new species of Impatiens L., I. oblongipetala K. M. Liu & Y. Y. Cong (Balsaminaceae), from Yunnan Province, China, is described and illustrated, including its seed and pollen micromorphologies. This species is similar to I. lecomtei Hook. f. and I. weihsiensis Y. L. Chen, but differs by the white to slightly pink lateral sepals, the white lower sepal without purple striae, and the lateral united petals with apically retuse distal lobes.

Impatiens xanthinoides (Balsaminaceae) sp. nov. from Yunnan Province, China is described and illustrated. This species is similar to I. xanthina and I. fugongensis in plant height, golden-yellow flowers, lateral sepals 2, stamen 5 with obtuse apex, and 5-carpellate ovary. However, it differs with that two species in the lower sepal obconic with red striae, dorsal petal glabrous, the lateral united petals stipitate with fan-shaped, apex acute lower lobes, and fusiform capsule. The detailed morphological characters, diagnostic comparisons, habitat and micromorphology of seeds and pollen grains under scanning electron microscope (SEM) are presented. According to the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria, I. xanthinoides is assessed as Critically Endangered (CR B1a; B1b(ii)) because of its limited distribution rang and decline of mature individuals.
