Drawing on Goffman's Frame Analysis and 20 years of observations of city planning councils in Western Europe and North America, this article lays the groundwork for a grammar of democratic ambiguity characterizing top‐down participatory processes and other public meetings aimed at some degree of citizen inclusion in local, municipal, or regional government. After pointing out Goffman's singular conception of the “interaction order,” the author shows how institutional organizers and ordinary citizens deal with interactional ambiguity, in its contrasting effects on the dynamics of these participatory assemblies. A primary form of ambiguity, between a “representative” and a “deliberative” definition of participatory democracy, is proving inhibiting for citizens' involvement and tends to “suspend interaction.” A second type of ambiguity arises from a wide range of facilitation methods (playful, dramaturgical, educational, therapeutic, esthetic, etc.) designed to transform the initial ambiguity to offer more fluid interaction and more stimulating involvement opportunities, yet in an activity that now has only an uncertain connection to civic participation. The author concludes by presenting some frame‐analytical tools for tracking and evaluating dynamics of ambiguity transformation in participatory processes and emphasizes the implications of this type of sociological analysis for political theory. The prevalence of dementia is increasing due to the aging population, leading to significant investments in information technology-based dementia care solutions such as mobile dementia prevention services (MDPS). These services aim to facilitate early diagnosis and prevent cognitive decline, with the ultimate goal of reducing medical costs. This study examines how aging individuals perceive and evaluate MDPS and how these perceptions influence their adoption intentions. Drawing from a coping perspective, we analyze the impact of susceptibility and severity dimensions in dementia risk perception on the perceived usefulness and self-incongruence in MDPS adoption. Focusing on middle-aged and older adults aged 55 and above, the study reveals significant but contrasting effects of susceptibility and severity. Perceived susceptibility of dementia is associated with emotion-focused coping, positively influencing self-incongruence with MDPS. Perceived severity of dementia is linked to problem-focused coping, negatively impacting self-incongruence but positively influencing the perceived usefulness of MDPS, promoting adoption. These findings provide insights into promoting MDPS by considering dementia risk perceptions and contribute to the development of effective dementia-related strategies for aging individuals. Pollinators are fundamental for plant reproduction in natural and agricultural ecosystems. However, their populations are declining worldwide, threatening the functioning of the ecosystem service they provide. The factors driving this change are manifold, but land use changes and interspecific transmission of pathogens between managed and wild bees are prominent. In this context, most research efforts have focused on specific taxa and rarely at the community level, limiting our ability to fully understand the effects of global change on the functioning of plant–pollinator interactions in ecosystems. Here, we investigate the impact of human activities (beekeeping and land use intensity) on the spread of an emergent pathogen Vairimorpha ceranae in Mediterranean wild bee communities inhabiting landscapes with varying levels of anthropogenic disturbance. Plant–pollinator interactions were sampled in nine one‐hectare plots along a gradient of land use (urban structures, croplands and natural vegetation) and beekeeping intensity. We analysed the impact of human disturbances on pollination networks and pathogen prevalence, and applied a network approach to examine whether total effects of species in networks (i.e. direct plus indirect interactions) explain pathogen spread through bee communities. We found that V. ceranae prevalence in honey bees is not a good predictor of the pathogen spread through bee communities. There seems to be a temporal mismatch between pathogen dynamics in managed and wild bees. Networks with more diversity of interactions and more plants showed less pathogen prevalence, but total effect analyses (i.e. combining direct and indirect interactions) failed to explain pathogen transmission across pollination networks. Croplands increased wild bee density, and interactions and species diversity in networks, while shrublands had the opposite effect. Our results highlight the importance of studying pathogen dynamics at the community level and analysing species interaction patterns to improve our understanding of pathogen spread through communities. This study evaluates biopsychosocial factors as mediators of the effect of chiropractic care on low back pain (LBP) intensity and interference for active-duty military members. Data from a multi-site, pragmatic clinical trial comparing six weeks of chiropractic care plus usual medical care to usual medical care alone for 750 US active-duty military members with LBP were analyzed using natural-effect, multiple-mediator modeling. Mediation of the adjusted mean effect difference on 12-week outcomes of PROMIS-29 pain interference and intensity by 6-week mediators of other PROMIS-29 physical, mental, and social health subdomains was evaluated. The effect difference on pain interference occurring through PROMIS-29 biopsychosocial factors (natural indirect effect = -1.59, 95% CI = -2.28 to -0.88) was 56% (95% CI = 35 to 96) of the total effect (-2.82, 95% CI = -3.98 to -1.53). The difference in effect on pain intensity occurring through biopsychosocial factors was smaller (natural indirect effect = -0.32, 95% CI = -0.50 to -0.18), equaling 26% (95% CI = 15 to 42) of the total effect (-1.23, 95% CI = -1.52 to -0.88). When considered individually, all physical, mental, and social health factors appeared to mediate the effect difference on pain interference and pain intensity with mental health factors having smaller effect estimates. In contrast with effects on pain interference, much of the effect of adding chiropractic care to usual medical care for US military members on pain intensity did not appear to occur through the PROMIS-29 biopsychosocial factors. Physical and social factors appear to be important intermediate measures for patients receiving chiropractic care for low back pain in military settings. Further study is needed to determine if the effect of chiropractic care on pain intensity for active-duty military occurs through other unmeasured factors, such as patient beliefs, or if the effect occurs directly. Objectives: Hysterosalpingography (HSG) is widely used for evaluating the fallopian tubes; however, controversies regarding the use of water- or oil-based iodine-based contrast media (CM) remain. The aim of this work was (1) to discuss reported pregnancy rates related to the CM type used, (2) to validate the used CM in published literature, (3) to discuss possible complications and side effects of CM in HSG, and (4) to develop guidelines on the use of oil-based CM in HSG. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted for original RCT studies or review/meta-analyses on using water-based and oil-based CM in HSG with fertility outcomes and complications. Nine randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and 10 reviews/meta-analyses were analyzed. Grading of the literature was performed based on the Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine (OCEBM) 2011 classification. Results: An approximately 10% higher pregnancy rate is reported for oil-based CM. Side effects are rare, but oil-based CM have potentially more side effects on the maternal thyroid function and the peritoneum. Conclusions: 1. HSG with oil-based CM gives approximately 10% higher pregnancy rates. 2. External validity is limited, as in five of nine RCTs, the CM used is no longer on the market. 3. Oil-based CM have potentially more side effects on the maternal thyroid function and on the peritoneum. 4. Guideline: Maternal thyroid function should be tested before HSG with oil-based CM and monitored for 6 months after. Clinical relevance statement: Oil-based CM is associated with an approximately 10% higher chance of pregnancy compared to water-based CM after HSG. Although side effects are rare, higher iodine concentration and slower clearance of oil-based CM may induce maternal thyroid function disturbance and peritoneal inflammation and granuloma formation. Using a novel combination of mortgage datasets, we analyze the effects of two policy levers influencing the scope of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's (Government-Sponsored Enterprises, GSEs) involvement in the U.S. residential mortgage market. First, we find that small changes in mortgage guarantee fees charged by the GSEs were essentially fully passed through to consumers, with limited effects on mortgage demand. This implies that small fee changes are primarily transfers between mortgage consumers and taxpayers while the GSEs remain in federal conservatorship. Second, the data suggest that marginally lowering maximum conforming loan size limits would cause most affected consumers to reduce their loan amounts to the new maximum. Our findings provide new detailed evidence on how GSE policy shapes mortgage availability and contrast the differing effects on consumers of two potential policy levers to reduce (or increase) the scope of GSE lending. This study builds an evolutionary game model based on a social network composed of two sub‐networks with different typologies, which respectively depict the connections of enterprises and consumers. Enterprises engage in evolutionary games to determine whether to invest in low‐carbon technology (LCT) research and development (R&D), while consumers select products based on the contrast effect. Our results show that carbon taxation and subsidies can increase the diffusion of LCT R&D, but their marginal effectiveness decreases. Lowering the loan interest rate of enterprises with better green credit can promote LCT R&D diffusion, while excessively lowering the threshold will inhibit that. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Glioblastoma multiforme is a highly aggressive form of brain cancer, and early diagnosis plays a pivotal role in improving patient survival rates. In this regard, molecular magnetic resonance imaging has emerged as a promising imaging modality due to its exceptional sensitivity to minute tissue changes and the ability to penetrate deep into the brain. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of a novel contrast agent in detecting gliomas during MRI scans. Materials and methods: The contrast agent utilized modified chitosan coating on manganese oxide nanoparticles. The modification included adding methotrexate and 5-aminolevulinic acid (MnO2/CS@5-ALA-MTX) to target cells with overexpressed folate receptors and breaking down excess hydrogen peroxide in tumor tissue, resulting in enhanced signal intensity in T1-weighted MR images but diminished signal intensity in T2*-weighted MR images. Results: The nanosystem was characterized and evaluated in MR imaging, safety, and ability to target cells both in vivo and in vitro. MTX-free nanoparticles (MnO2/CS@5-ALA NPs) had no obvious cytotoxicity on cell lines U87MG and NIH3T3 after 24/48 h at a concentration of up to 160 µgr/mL (cell viability more than 80%). In this system, methotrexate enables tumor targeting and the MnO2/5-ALA improves T1–T2*-weighted MRI. In addition, MRI scans of mice with M109 carcinoma indicated significant tumor uptake and NP capacity to improve the positive contrast effect. Conclusion: This developed MnO2/CS@5-ALA-MTX nanoparticle system may exhibit great potential in the accurate diagnosis of folate receptor over-expressing cancers such as glioblastoma. Shear thinning hydrogels are emerging as a potential candidate of embolic agents for minimally invasive transcatheter arterial embolization because of their advantages over the commonly used conventional solid and liquid embolic agents. The transformation from solid to liquid and vice versa on the application and removal of shear force enables the shear thinning hydrogels to successfully occlude vasculatures of any diameters and thus can be used for the treatment of diseased or injured vasculature, including vascular malformation and malignant or benign tumors. Imageability of the embolic gel is of paramount importance as for successful occlusion of vasculatures requires real-time monitoring of the deployment of the embolic agents. Here, we studied the effect of different contrast agents, including iohexol, OmnipaqueTM and tantalum microparticles, on the radiopacity on an established chitosan-nanoclay hydrogel system. The flow behavior and recoverability of the developed gels are not compromised by the addition of radiopaque contrast agents. The injection force of the gels through a clinically relevant catheter was measured to evaluate the practicality of hand injection. The gels exhibited exceptional contrast under x-ray imaging modality. In addition, the radiopaque gels demonstrated excellent hemocompatibility and cell biocompatibility, highlighting their potential for transcatheter arterial embolization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study examines the interplay between sibling sex composition, son preference, and child education outcomes in China, leveraging the natural experiment of the country's One-Child Policy. Using China 1990 census, we find that the presence of a brother in the second birth exerts contrasting effects on firstborn girls' education. Son-biased family resource allocation diminishes their educational attainment, while parental decisions to curtail family size after the son's birth lead to increased educational opportunities for firstborn girls. These opposing mechanisms counteract each other, resulting in a near-zero net effect on their education. In contrast, sibling sex composition has no discernible impact on firstborn boys' education in either way. Background: Aging is associated with cellular and tissue responses that collectively lead to functional and structural deterioration of tissues. Poor tissue oxygenation, or hypoxia, is involved in such responses and contributes to aging. Consequently, it could be speculated that living at higher altitude, and therefore in hypoxic conditions, accelerates aging. This assumption is indeed supported by evidence from populations residing at very high altitudes (>3,500 m). In contrast, accumulating evidence suggests that living at moderate altitudes (1,500–2,500 m) is protective rather than injurious, at least for some body systems. Summary: In this review, we critically evaluate the hypothesis that the physiological responses to mild hypoxic stress associated to life at moderate altitudes provide protection from many hypoxia-related diseases through hormesis. Hormesis means that a low dose of a stressor (here hypoxia) elicits beneficial outcomes, while a higher dose can be toxic and might explain at least in part the dose-dependent contrasting effects of hypoxia on the aging processes. The lack of well-designed longitudinal studies focusing on the role of the altitude of residence, and difficulties in accounting for potentially confounding factors such as migration, ethnicity/genetics, and socioeconomic and geoclimatic conditions, currently hampers translation of related research into uncontroversial paradigms. Key Messages: Deeper investigations are required to understand the impact of altitude-related hypoxia on age-related diseases and to develop molecular markers of ageing/senescence in humans that are linked to hypoxia. Background: Rapidly expanding human activities have profoundly changed the habitat use of both large carnivores and their prey, but whether and how human activities affect the interactions between them has received relatively less attention. In this study, we conducted a systematically designed camera-trapping survey on an endangered large carnivore (North Chinese leopard Panthera pardus japonensis) and its wild ungulate prey (Siberian roe deer Capreolus pygargus and wild boar Sus scrofa) in the Taihang Mountains of central North China. Using conditional two-species occupancy model based on data derived from the extensive sampling effort (15,654 camera-days at 102 camera sites), we examined the relationship of spatial use between leopards and each prey species under the effects of human presence, free-ranging cattle, roads and settlements. Results: Humans and cattle had contrasting effects on the relationship of spatial use between leopard and roe deer, with higher and lower spatial segregation between them at human and cattle-frequented sites, respectively. Roads might create a shelter for wild boar from leopard predation, with less spatial segregation between them at sites close to the roads. Conclusions: Our findings demonstrate that human activities are reshaping the spatial overlap between large carnivores and their prey, and have non-equivalent effects among different types of human activity. Such effects may further alter the strength of interspecific interactions between predator and prey, with far-reaching influences on the community and ecosystem that require more research. This article discusses the potential relationship between folic acid intake and the risk of prostate cancer. Folic acid is a natural form of vitamin B9 that is important for cell growth and division. While some studies suggest that folic acid may have protective effects against certain types of cancer, there is also evidence that high levels of folic acid intake may increase the risk of cancer progression. The article presents the results of a Mendelian randomization analysis, which found a significant association between folic acid supplements and an increased risk of prostate cancer. ABSTRACT The root cortical senescence (RCS) is closely associated with root absorptive function. However, characteristics and responses of RCS to drought stress in cotton have received little attention. This study subjected the drought‐tolerant variety ‘Guoxin 02’ and the drought‐sensitive variety ‘Ji 228’ to drought stress (8% PEG6000) and no‐stress (0% PEG6000) treatments to determine the characteristics and responses of cotton RCS to drought stress. The results showed that the greater the distance from the root tip, the more severe the RCS occurrence under drought stress compared with non‐stress treatment. The occurrence of RCS in ‘Guoxin 02’ increased by 14.03%−20.18% compared to ‘Ji 228’ under drought stress. The RCS was negatively correlated with root respiration but positively correlated with root length and leaf water potential. The silencing of RCS‐related genes (GhSAG12 and GhbHLH121) can mitigate the drought‐induced RCS phenomenon in cotton; however, reduced drought tolerance. Exogenous abscisic acid (ABA) treatment can promote RCS generation. Conversely, ABA synthesis exhibits contrasting effects. In summary, endogenous hormones regulated RCS, which reduced the root metabolic and seemingly achieved more resource redistribution to new roots, thereby fully utilize deep water resources. Chemotherapy resistance is a significant factor in treatment failure in patients with neuroblastoma (NB), and it directly affects patient prognosis. Therefore, identifying novel therapeutic targets to enhance chemosensitivity is essential to improve the cure rate and prognosis of patients withNB. In this study,we investigated the role of FTOin chemosensitivity ofNB cells to various chemotherapeutic drugs.Our results showed that high FTO expression was positively correlated with increased survival probability and favorable prognostic factors in patients with NB. FTO overexpression inhibited cell proliferation, whereas FTO knockdown promoted cell proliferation in NB cells. FTO expression alteration had contrasting effects on NB cells' sensitivity to etoposide but had no significant impact on sensitivity to cisplatin. Downregulation of FTO reduced the sensitivity of NB cells to paclitaxel, whereas upregulation of FTO enhanced its sensitivity. Additionally, the sensitivities between patients with lower and higher FTO expression to various chemotherapeutic drugs or small-molecule inhibitors were different. Thus, FTO affects the sensitivities of NB cells differently depending on the different chemotherapeutic drugs and small-molecule inhibitors. Recent technological advancements have empowered nonhuman entities, such as virtual assistants and humanoid robots, to simulate human intelligence and behavior. This paper investigates how autonomous agents influence individuals' perceptions and behaviors toward others, particularly human employees. Our research reveals that the socio‐emotional capabilities of autonomous agents lead individuals to attribute a humanlike mind to these nonhuman entities. Perceiving a high level of humanlike mind in the nonhuman, autonomous agents affects perceptions of actual people through an assimilation process. Consequently, we observe “assimilation‐induced dehumanization”: the humanness judgment of actual people is assimilated toward the lower humanness judgment of autonomous agents, leading to various forms of mistreatment. We demonstrate that assimilation‐induced dehumanization is mitigated when autonomous agents possess capabilities incompatible with humans, leading to a contrast effect (Study 2), and when autonomous agents are perceived as having a high level of cognitive capability only, resulting in a lower level of mind perception of these agents (Study 3). Our findings hold across various types of autonomous agents (embodied: Studies 1–2 and disembodied: Studies 3–5), as well as in real and hypothetical consumer choices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer is a prevalent malignancy that significantly contributes to morbidity and mortality rates among women in developing nations. Although the association of KIF18A with various cancers has been established, its role in cervical squamous cell carcinoma (CESC) remains elusive. METHODS: The KIF18A impact on the progression of CESC and its underlying mechanism were investigated through comprehensive bioinformatics analysis utilizing publicly available datasets. The levels of KIF18A and CENPE were assessed in clinical CESC samples through western blotting and qRT-PCR. To discover the role and molecular pathways of KIF18A in CESC, a combination of experimental approaches, including wound-healing, flow cytometry, CCK-8, and Transwell assay, were employed. RESULTS: Our results demonstrate a significant KIF18A expression upregulation in CESC tissues in contrast to healthy tissues. In vitro, KIF18A upregulation was found to enhance cell growth, migration, and invasion and activate the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway while concurrently suppressing apoptosis. Conversely, downregulating KIF18A exhibited contrasting effects. Mechanistically, we observed a positive significant connection between KIF18A and CENPE in CESC cells. CONCLUSION: KIF18A promotes tumor growth in CESC by modulating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway through regulation of CENPE, making it a potential biomarker for diagnosis and prognosis as well as a therapeutic target. This study investigates the significant impact of metal–support interactions on catalytic reaction mechanisms at the interface of oxide-supported metal nanoparticles. The distinct and contrasting effects of SiO2 and TiO2 supports on reaction dynamics using NaBD4 were studied and focused on the relative yields of [HD]/[H2] and [D2]/[H2]. The findings show a consistent increase in HD yields with rising [BD4−] concentrations. Notably, the sequence of HD yield enhancement follows the order of TiO2-Au0-NPs < Au0-NPs < SiO2-Au0-NPs. Conversely, the rate of H2 evolution during BH4- hydrolysis exhibits an inverse trend, with TiO2-Au0-NPs outperforming the others, followed by Au0-NPs and SiO2-Au0-NPs, demonstrating the opposing effects exerted by the TiO2 and SiO2 supports on the catalytic processes. Further, the catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) to 4-aminophenol (4-AP) confirms the catalytic mechanism, with TiO2-Au0-NPs demonstrating superior activity. The catalytic activity observed aligns with the order of TiO2-Au0-NPs > Au0-NPs > SiO2-Au0-NPs, suggesting that SiO2 donates electrons to Au0-NPs, while TiO2 withdraws them. It is of interest to note that two very different processes, that clearly proceed via different mechanisms, are affected similarly by the supports. This study reveals that the choice of support material influences catalytic activity, impacting overall yield and efficiency. Social withdrawal in rodents is a measure of asociality, an important negative symptom of schizophrenia. The Roman high- (RHA) and low-avoidance (RLA) rat strains have been reported to exhibit differential profiles in schizophrenia-relevant behavioral phenotypes. This investigation was focused on the study of social and non-social behavior of these two rat strains following acute administration of dizocilpine (MK801, an NMDA receptor antagonist), a pharmacological model of schizophrenia-like features used to produce asociality and hyperactivity. Also, since oxytocin (OXT) has been proposed as a natural antipsychotic and a potential adjunctive therapy for social deficits in schizophrenia, we have evaluated the effects of OXT administration and its ability to reverse the MK801-impairing effects on social and non-social behavior and MK801-induced hyperactivity. MK801 administration produced hyperlocomotion and a decrease in social and non-social behavior in both rat strains, but these drug effects were clearly more marked in RHA rats. OXT (0.04 mg/kg and 0.2 mg/kg) attenuated MK801-induced hyperlocomotion in both rat strains, although this effect was more marked in RHA rats. The MK801-decreasing effect on exploration of the "social hole" was moderately but significantly attenuated only in RLA rats. This study is the first to demonstrate the differential effects of OXT on MK801-induced impairments in the two Roman rat strains, providing some support for the potential therapeutic effects of OXT against schizophrenia-like symptoms, including both a positive-like symptom (i.e., MK801-induced hyperlocomotion) and a negative-like symptom (i.e., MK801 decrease in social behavior), while highlighting the importance of the genetic background (i.e., the rat strain) in influencing the effects of both MK801 and oxytocin. We test for skewness preferences in a large set of observational panel data on online poker games (n=4,450,585). Each observation refers to a choice between a safe option and a binary risk of winning or losing the game. Our setting offers a real-world choice situation with substantial incentives where probability distributions are simple, transparent, and known to the decision-makers. Individuals reveal a strong and robust preference for skewness, which is inconsistent with expected utility theory. The effect of skewness is most pronounced among experienced and unsuccessful players but remains significant in all subsamples that we investigate, in contrast to the effect of variance. Associational effects, whereby plants influence the biotic interactions of their neighbors, are an important component of plant–insect interactions. Plant chemistry has been hypothesized to mediate these interactions. The role of chemistry in associational effects, however, has been unclear in part because the diversity of plant chemistry makes it difficult to tease apart the importance and roles of particular classes of compounds. We examined the chemical ecology of associational effects using backcross‐bred plants of the Solanum pennellii introgression lines. We used eight genotypes from the introgression line system to establish 14 unique neighborhood treatments that maximized differences in acyl sugars, proteinase inhibitor, and terpene chemical diversity. We found that the chemical traits of the neighboring plant, rather than simply the number of introgression lines within a neighborhood, influenced insect abundance on focal plants. Furthermore, within‐chemical class diversity had contrasting effects on herbivore and predator abundances, and depended on the frequency of neighboring plant chemotypes. Notably, we found insect mobility—flying versus crawling—played a key role in insect response to phytochemistry. We highlight that the frequency and chemical phenotype of plant neighbors underlie associational effects and suggest this may be an important mechanism in maintaining intraspecific phytochemical variation within plant populations. Expanding on prior research with 8‐hydroxyquinoline (8hq) derivatives, this study investigates 5,7‐dibromo‐8‐hydroxyquinoline (8hqBr2) as a ligand in organic–inorganic hybrid materials (OIHMs). A series of 19 compounds and two of its salts were synthesized, employing d‐ and p‐block metal halides to explore the effect of solid‐state supramolecular structures on emission properties. Through the use of density functional theory (DFT), this work emphasizes the critical role of the bromine position within the ligand, contrasting with its effect when located exclusively in halogenometallate anions. The findings reveal that emission is profoundly influenced by π–π stacking, anion‐π interactions, and the configuration of metal cations and bromine substituents. Nanomaterials (NMs) have become one of the most attractive new materials because of their excellent performance and application in the fields of chemistry, agriculture and medicine. However, high prices and potential pollution also limit widespread application of NMs. To prepare cheaper and widely applicable NMs, biological materials, especially plant materials, are being tested for their feasibility as the host of carbon NMs (CNMs) or the carrier of metal NMs (MNMs). This review analyzes the performance and practical applications of current plant-based NMs (PB-NMs) by meta-analysis. The results show that the particle size of PB-NMs is significantly smaller than traditional NMs. Plants improve the production, and hence potential application of NMs, resulting in not only economic advantages but also environmental suitability. At the same time, CNMs below 20 nm have significant protection and promotory effects on plants compared with larger size NMs (above 20 nm) NMs also show contrasting effects on different parts and growth stages of plants. Based on these results, plants can be used as raw materials to produce efficient, environmentally friendly and low toxicity NMs. The applicability of new nanomaterials, including their environmental effects, physicochemical properties and economic advantages, can also be preliminarily confirmed through meta-analysis. In the present study, a suitable machine learning potential for SiBCNZr amorphous materials was used in classical molecular dynamics (CMD) for creating the large-scale SiBCNZr amorphous materials with 3375 atoms. This study focused on the effects of Zr on the amorphous structure and atomic diffusion of SiBCN materials. Moreover, the effects of different molar ratio of Zr, B and C atoms on SiBCNZr amorphous materials structure and properties were also detected. The results have revealed the structure evolution of SiBCNZr materials, in which B–N–C clusters with B–N at the core and C aggregated at outer layer formed. The Zr atoms randomly distributed instead of wrapping by the clusters. In addition, it was found that the increasing of Zr contents reduced the size and number of B–N–C clusters, in contrast to the effect of increased B content. The high contents of Zr caused the formation of Zr-rich region, having negative impact on the structural stability. Besides, the increasing of B content facilitated the formation of B–N–C clusters by affect the contents of B–C bonds in the materials, which was also detrimental to the mechanical performances. The lower contents of C in Si 2 B 1 C 1 N 1 Zr 0.15 caused the lower density and ultimate tensile stress of amorphous materials. Objective: The use of computed tomography (CT) in aquarium animals, including elasmobranchs, has increased dramatically. To take advantage of CT, contrast medium is used to enhance internal organs and provide contrast since elasmobranchs lack visceral fat. In this study, the contrast effects of iopamidol were examined for up to 260 days after intravenous administration to establish the time course of the CT values for the target organs in eight mature Cloudy Catsharks Scyliorhinus torazame. Methods: A micro‐CT system was used to measure the CT values of the designated region of interest in the target organs (ventricular cavity, kidneys, liver, gallbladder, ovarian follicles, uterine horn cavity) over time and the eggs laid, following administration of iopamidol (700 mg of iodine/kg). Result: The CT values of the ventricular cavity and kidneys peaked at 30 min and showed low values after day 22. The CT values for the liver increased over time and peaked at day 200, whereas values for the gallbladder and ovarian follicles peaked on day 6, with the gallbladder showing a low value and the ovarian follicles still showing a high value on day 260. Computed tomography images with identifiable enhancement within bilateral uterine horns were followed from days 1 to 35. The mean and maximum CT values of yolk and jelly in eggs laid after day 30 were significantly higher than the values for eggs laid up to day 29; embryonic development was confirmed in 88.7% of the eggs. Conclusion: There was no mortality or morbidity of the sharks during the experiment, indicating that the administration of iopamidol at 700 mg of iodine/kg did not result in any adverse effects for 260 days. This is the first study to describe the long‐term contrast effects of iopamidol, thus contributing new information about the application of contrast studies in Cloudy Catsharks. In this study, the effect of the antioxidant extract from lemon by-products (Citrus × Limon L.) integrated into an edible alginate-based coating was evaluated to preserve the storage quality of ready-to-eat Clementine (Citrus × Clementina) fruits. The effects of different coatings (1.5% of alginate and 1.5% of alginate + 2–4% of lemon by-product extract) were assessed by the physical, chemical, microbiological, sensorial, and structural analyses of ready-to-eat Clementine fruits stored for 21 d at 4 °C. Ready-to-eat Clementine fruits coated with alginate and extract from lemon by-products showed greater levels of polyphenols, flavonoids, antioxidant activity, and organic acids. A microbiological analysis revealed the dose-dependent effect of the extract to contrast the growth of mesophilic bacteria, yeast, and molds during storage. A sensory analysis confirmed that the enriched coating improved the visual, structural, and olfactory parameters until the end of storage. We develop a dynamic trade‐off model of managerial discretion to investigate how stock option compensation relates to managers' intertwined capital structure and dynamic investment decisions. Our model predicts that option grants provide managers with incentives to undertake both current and future investments, in sharp contrast to the effects of stock compensation. With an increase in option compensation, managers in low‐ (high‐) risk firms tend to increase (decrease) firm leverage, while the opposite is true when stock pay increases. In current construction waste resource management processes, the effect of government supervision is unclear, and illegal treatment and low-quality reproduction of recycling and reprocessing enterprises by construction units are common. To improve the degree of resource utilization of construction waste and deeply explore the role of its key influencing factors, a tripartite evolutionary game model of construction waste resource treatment in which the government, construction units, and recycling and reprocessing enterprises are the research objects that considers public participation factors to be established. MATLAB is used to simulate the sensitivity of relevant parameters. The results show that: (1) An increase in government fines can regulate the behavior of enterprises; (2) Low government subsidies are conducive to the development of a tripartite stability strategy; and (3) An increase in the cost difference between the two strategies of the enterprise will weaken its willingness to carry out green operations (and after the cost difference exceeds the threshold, the enterprise will refuse to carry out green operations); (4) The reputation value brought by the public and the additional value added by reputation under the contrast effect have an incentive effect on the enterprise and the government; and (5) The peak value of the inverted U-shaped curve of government strategy choice is affected by the degree of public participation. Therefore, the government should propose rectifications in terms of fines and subsidies, and both companies can use technological innovation to reduce costs. At the same time, it is necessary to raise stakeholders' awareness of resource utilization and encourage the public to actively participate in supervision. Climate models commonly overestimate warm rain frequency and underestimate its intensity over the ocean, primarily due to insufficient representation of the aerosol effects. This pertains to both fine aerosols (FA) and coarse sea spray aerosols (CSA), where the latter is mostly absent in the models. Here, our observations show that adding CSA enhances vertical warm rain structure, in contrast to the effect of FA. The magnitude of the effect of CSA is larger than the opposite effect of the FA. For rain with top heights of 2–3 km, the raindrop size, concentration, and rain rate can be increased by factors of 1.03, 1.47, and 1.60, respectively. These CSA-induced changes are larger for thicker clouds, reaching a maximum by factors of 1.12, 1.85, and 2.21, respectively. There has been enduring debate on how attention alters contrast appearance. Recent research indicates that exogenous attention enhances contrast appearance for low-contrast stimuli but attenuates it for high-contrast stimuli. Similarly, one study has demonstrated that endogenous attention heightens perceived contrast for low-contrast stimuli, yet none have explored its impact on high-contrast stimuli. In this study, we investigated how endogenous attention alters contrast appearance, with a specific focus on high-contrast stimuli. In Experiment 1, we utilized the rapid serial visual presentation (RSVP) paradigm to direct endogenous attention, revealing that contrast appearance was enhanced for both low- and high-contrast stimuli. To eliminate potential influences from the confined attention field in the RSVP paradigm, Experiment 2 adopted the letter identification paradigm, deploying attention across a broader visual field. Results consistently indicated that endogenous attention increased perceived contrast for high-contrast stimuli. Experiment 3 employed equiluminant chromatic letters as stimuli in the letter identification task to eliminate potential interference from contrast adaption, which might have occurred in Experiment 2. Remarkably, the boosting effect of endogenous attention persisted. Combining the results from these experiments, we propose that endogenous attention consistently enhances contrast appearance, irrespective of stimulus contrast levels. This stands in contrast to the effects of exogenous attention, suggesting that mechanisms through which endogenous attention alters contrast appearance may differ from those of exogenous attention. The goal of this work is to investigate the mechanical and fracture characteristics of polylactic acid (PLA)/thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU)/halloysite (HNT). HNT with three levels (0, 3, and 6 wt.%) and TPU with three levels (10, 20, and 30 wt.%) were used as variables. The investigation of tensile properties revealed contrasting effects of TPU and HNT levels. Increasing TPU content to 30 wt.% led to a decrease in strength and modulus by 36% and 42% in turn, however resulted in a remarkable 338% improvement in elongation at break. Conversely, the addition of 3 wt.% HNT enhanced both tensile strength and modulus, although it caused a reduction in elongation at break. The results concerning fracture properties showed by incorporating TPU up to 30 wt.% EWF (w e ) and non-EWF (βw p ) rose by 459% and 178%, respectively. Additionally, the inclusion of 3 wt.% HNT further elevated the EWF compared to the compound containing 10 wt.% TPU without HNT. Through optimization, the compound with 10 wt.% TPU and 3 wt.% HNT was shown to have the optimum strength, stiffness, and toughness balance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Alpine habitats are regarded as particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. On one hand, global warming is supposed to contributes to alpine environments becoming less stressful. On the other hand, altered snowpack due to warmer temperatures can intensify the stress in these habitats. The presence of non‐native plants on some of these habitats is due to the facilitative effects exerted by native nurse plants, becoming an additional threat. According to the stress gradient hypothesis the importance of facilitative interactions with nurse species is expected to diminish as environmental harshness decreases due to climate change yet remains important if climate change heightens the stress in alpine habitats. However, the responses also depend on climate change's impact on the nurse species. We conducted an experimental warming experiment in the Andes of the central Chile to assess the effects of warmer temperatures on the growth, reproduction and photochemical efficiency of the cushion nurse plant Azorella madreporica. Further we performed a cushion removal experiment involving three native species (Gamocarpha ventosa, Nocaccea magellanica and Rytidosperma pictum) and two non‐native species (Cerastium arvense and Taraxacum officinale) to assess whether facilitative interactions changed with warming. We expected that under warmer conditions facilitation continued be important for the native species but decreased for the non‐natives as the latter are abundant at warmer low elevations. We found that warmer conditions increased the photochemical efficiency and growth of the nurse cushions. Removal of cushions resulted in high mortality rates for all species. However, under warmer conditions, native species exhibited lower survival rates, whereas non‐natives showed no significant changes compared to control groups. Increasing oil production is crucial for multilayer co-production. When there are significant differences in the permeability of each layer, an interlayer contradiction arises that can impact the recovery efficiency. After a number of tests and the establishment of a mathematical model, the effects of permeability contrast on oil production for water flooding were revealed. In the meantime, the developed mathematical model was solved using the Buckley–Lever seepage equation. Ultimately, the accuracy of the established model was confirmed by comparing the simulated outcomes of the mathematical model with the experimental results. The findings indicate that when permeability contrast increases, the production ratio of the high-permeability layer will improve. This is primarily due to the low-permeability layer's production contribution rate decreasing. The accuracy of the established model is ensured by an error of less than 5% between the results of the experiment and the simulation. When the permeability contrast is less than three, the low-permeability layer can be effectively used for three-layer commingled production. However, when the permeability contrast exceeds six, the production coefficient of the low-permeability layer will be less than 5%, which has a significant impact on the layer's development. Partial root‐zone drying irrigation (PRD) can improve water‐use efficiency (WUE) without reductions in photosynthesis; however, the mechanism by which this is attained is unclear. To amend that, PRD conditions were simulated by polyethylene glycol 6000 in a root‐splitting system and the effects of PRD on cotton growth were studied. Results showed that PRD decreased stomatal conductance (gs) but increased mesophyll conductance (gm). Due to the contrasting effects on gs and gm, net photosynthetic rate (AN) remained unaffected, while the enhanced gm/gs ratio facilitated a larger intrinsic WUE. Further analyses indicated that PRD‐induced reduction of gs was related to decreased stomatal size and stomatal pore area in adaxial and abaxial surface which was ascribed to lower pore length and width. PRD‐induced variation of gm was ascribed to the reduced liquid‐phase resistance, due to increases in chloroplast area facing to intercellular airspaces and the ratio of chloroplast surface area to total mesophyll cell area exposed to intercellular airspaces, as well as to decreases in the distance between cell wall and chloroplast, and between adjacent chloroplasts. The above results demonstrate that PRD, through alterations to stomatal and mesophyll structures, decoupled gs and gm responses, which ultimately increased intrinsic WUE and maintained AN. Summary statement: Partial root‐zone drying irrigation (PRD) can improve water‐use efficiency (WUE) without reductions in photosynthesis; however, the mechanism by which this is attained is unclear. Our study reveals for the first time that the mechanism by which PRD improves intrinsic WUE without reducing photosynthesis is related to the decoupling of gs and gm responses and identifies key structure traits associated with gs reduction and gm enhancement under PRD conditions. Macroscale environmental gradients can have contrasting effects on organisms that occupy different vertical niches, but we have little understanding of how this might result in different macroscale diversity patterns in ground and arboreal communities. We also have little understanding of how different dimensions of diversity, such as functional and phylogenetic diversity, vary along macroscale environmental gradients. Here we examine latitudinal and elevational patterns of different dimensions of diversity for both ground and arboreal assemblages in Neotropical savanna ants. The study was based on ant species occurring at 32 sites covering a 22° range of latitude and > 1000 m range in elevation in Brazil. Functional and phylogenetic richness were positively correlated with species richness, all increasing with latitude. However, the greater phylogenetic richness on the ground than in trees did not simply reflect differences in species richness. The mean functional and phylogenetic divergence among species was also greater on the ground than in trees, indicating a stronger role of competition. Both mean functional and phylogenetic divergence showed negative correlations with elevation in trees but not on the ground. In trees, the standardized effect size (taking into account differences in species richness) of mean functional divergence was negatively related to elevation and mean phylogenetic divergence was negatively related to both latitude and elevation. These findings suggest that as temperature decreases the relative importance of environmental filtering in arboreal but not ground communities increases (and that of competition and niche partitioning decreases). Overall, we show that the macroecological patterns of ant species richness that have previously been reported for Brazilian savannas do not adequately represent other dimensions of diversity, and that the representativeness differs between vertical strata. Macroecological patterns of functional and phylogenetic divergence indicate that the relative importance of competition and environmental filtering also differs between vertical strata. Understanding the processes and mechanisms that underlie the spatiotemporal patterns of biodiversity is of paramount relevance, given the ongoing global climate and land cover changes. Here, we investigated the influence of season‐related climatic variables on two dimensions of dung beetle diversity (taxonomic and functional) and at different scales (alpha and beta) within an introduced Brazilian pasture ecosystem.We sampled dung beetles over 52 consecutive weeks, comprising the dry and rainy seasons. We related taxonomic and functional variables to season‐related climate variables (temperature, precipitation and humidity) using absolute values and changes from consecutive samplings (Δ, differences between samplings).We found higher species richness and abundance values in the rainy season. Changes in climatic variables between consecutive samplings caused effects only in functional dispersion, temporal β‐diversity and species losses but not in species richness and abundance of dung beetles. However, these effects are dependent on the season. In the rainy season, increased precipitation between samplings caused a decrease in functional dispersion and an opposite pattern was found in the dry season. Similarly, increased temperature values between samplings caused decreases in both temporal β‐diversity and species losses of dung beetles, with an opposite pattern in the dry season.Season‐associated climatic variables showed contrasting effects on dung beetle taxonomic and functional metrics. Temporal changes in taxonomic and functional diversity may be driven by different climatic variables, which can be associated with the sorting of species or species traits related to their thermal niche. Few studies have investigated plants' healing effects, particularly through touch-based therapy, on older adults. As hypertension rates continue to climb worldwide, touch-based therapy for hypertension prevention has become a significant priority in public health initiatives. This study investigated the impact of tactile interaction with real grass (a landscape activity) versus artificial grass on older adults' physical and cognitive abilities. Employing a within-subject design, we assessed the physiological and emotional effects of touching real grass versus artificial glass for 10 min. Study participants included 50 Chinese individuals, with an average age of 85.64 ± 3.72 years. Measurements included blood pressure, electroencephalogram, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, and standard deviation (SD). Analyzing the SD data revealed that participants experienced a heightened sense of relaxation and calmness after touching real grass, compared to artificial grass. Furthermore, the participants' brainwave patterns—measured in mean power units—exhibited an upward trend while interacting with real grass, whereas they exhibited a downward trend during the interaction with artificial grass. Moreover, the mean systolic blood pressure significantly decreased following interaction with real grass. These findings suggest that engaging with real grass through touch potentially alleviates mental stress, in contrast to the effects of artificial grass. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Gallium oxide (Ga2O3) is a wide-bandgap oxide semiconductor, with a bandgap of ∼4.9 eV, making it a promising material for power device applications. This study focuses on the effect of hydrochloric acid addition on the growth rate in homoepitaxial growth of β-Ga2O3 using a mist chemical vapor deposition method. For homoepitaxial growth on a (001) β-Ga2O3 substrate, we introduced different concentrations of HCl into the source solution to assess its impact on the growth rate, crystal structures, and surface morphologies of the films. At a growth temperature of 900 °C, HCl addition linearly increased film thickness, enhancing the growth rate by 4.8 times with 9.09 vol. % HCl. No peaks associated with other phases were exhibited by each sample, indicating pure homoepitaxial growth. When comparing samples with similar film thicknesses, the root-mean-square (rms) roughness was enhanced by 1/7 with an increase in the HCl concentration. However, at 800 °C, an increasing solution concentration caused pronounced step bunching and elevated rms roughness, in contrast with the minimal effect observed at 900 °C. In experiments with hydrochloric acid addition at 900 °C, we observed a striped morphology, which maintained consistent rms roughness despite higher temperature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The current awareness of the environmental impact of the massive consumption of fossil fuel‐based resources has prompted the development of biocomposites based on plastic and agro‐industrial waste instead of virgin raw materials, promoting the new circular economy trend. This study uses a torque rheometer to analyze the effect of brewers' spent grain (BSG) on processing a postconsumer high‐density polyethylene (rHDPE)‐based biocomposite. Processing parameters are measured to contrast the effect of BSG (20 and 40 wt%) and the addition of a coupling agent at low (10 rpm) and high speed (90 rpm). Plant-derived compounds have shown potential in combating obesity by promoting thermogenesis in skeletal muscles and adipose tissues. One such compound is homotaurine, a sulfonic acid found in marine red algae, known for its benefits in neurocognitive disorders. However, its impact on adipocyte biology related to energy expenditure regulators remains unexplored. We employed RT-PCR, immunoblot, a staining method, and an assay kit to investigate the role of homotaurine in the regulators of DRD1-mediated ATP-dependent thermogenesis and beiging in C2C12 myoblasts and 3T3–L1 white adipocytes. We also assessed the effects of homotaurine on the expression of target genes and proteins related to ATP-consuming futile and browning processes in both cell models. Our findings revealed that homotaurine suppressed the expression of OXPHOS complexes in 3T3–L1 white adipocytes whereas, in C2C12 myoblasts, it stimulated their expression. Moreover, homotaurine increased intracellular Ca2+ levels in C2C12 myoblasts but not in 3T3–L1 white adipocytes. Furthermore, homotaurine upregulated key effectors of ATP-dependent thermogenesis, such as α1-AR, SLN, CaMKII, VDAC, and MCU, in C2C12 myoblasts. However, in 3T3–L1 white adipocytes, these effectors were downregulated, indicating homotaurine's suppressing effect on browning and thermogenic characteristics in these cells. Homotaurine exhibited cell-type-specific effects on mitochondrial biogenesis regulators, Ca2+ signaling, and ATP-dependent thermogenesis effectors. It enhanced energy expenditure in C2C12 myoblasts by upregulating key effectors while inhibiting browning and thermogenic characteristics in 3T3–L1 white adipocytes. This greenhouse study evaluated the effects of soil enrichment with Pteris vittata rhizosphere bacteria on the growth and accumulation of arsenic in P. vittata grown on a naturally As-rich soil. Inoculations were performed with a consortium of six bacteria resistant to 100 mM arsenate and effects were compared to those obtained on the sterilized soil. Selected bacteria from the consortium were also utilized individually: PVr_9 homologous to Agrobacterium radiobacter that produces IAA and siderophores and shows ACC deaminase activity, PVr_15 homologous to Acinetobacter schindleri that contains the arsenate reductase gene, and PVr_5 homologous to Paenarthrobacter ureafaciens that possesses all traits from both PVr_9 and PVr_15. Frond and root biomass significantly increased in ferns inoculated with the consortium only on non-sterilized soil. A greater increase was obtained with PVr_9 alone, while only an increased root length was found in those inoculated with either PVr_5 or PVr_15. Arsenic content significantly decreased only in ferns inoculated with PVr_9 while it increased in those inoculated with PVr_5 and PVr_15. In conclusion, inoculations with the consortium and PVr_9 alone increase plant biomass, but no increase in As phytoextraction occurs with the consortium and even a reduction is seen with PVr_9 alone. Small populations of endangered species risk losing already eroded genetic diversity, important for adaptive potential, through the effects of genetic drift. The magnitude of drift can be mitigated by maximising the effective population size, as is the goal of genetic management strategies. Different mating systems, specifically those leading to reproductive skew, exacerbate genetic drift by distorting contributions. In the absence of an active management strategy, reproductive skew will have long-term effects on the genetic composition of a population, particularly where admixture is present. Here we examine the contrasting effects of conservation management strategies in two ex situ populations of the Critically Endangered eastern black rhino (Diceros bicornis michaeli), one managed as a semi-wild population in South Africa (SAx), and one managed under a mean-kinship breeding strategy in European zoos. We use molecular data to reconstruct pedigrees for both populations and validate the method using the zoo studbook. Using the reconstructed pedigree and studbook we show there is male sex-specific skew in both populations. However, the zoo's mean-kinship breeding strategy effectively reduces reproductive skew in comparison to a semi-wild population with little genetic management. We also show that strong male reproductive skew in SAx has resulted in extensive admixture, which may require a re-evaluation of the population's original intended role in the black rhino meta-population. With a high potential for admixture in many ex situ populations of endangered species, molecular and pedigree data remain vital tools for populations needing to balance drift and selection. Background and Purpose: Antipsychotics such as olanzapine are associated with significant metabolic dysfunction, attributed to gut microbiome dysbiosis. A recent notion that most psychotropics are detrimental to the gut microbiome has arisen from consistent findings of metabolic adverse effects. However, unlike olanzapine, the metabolic effects of lurasidone are conflicting. Thus, this study investigates the contrasting effects of olanzapine and lurasidone on the gut microbiome to explore the hypothesis of 'gut neutrality' for lurasidone exposure. Experimental Approach: Using Sprague–Dawley rats, the effects of olanzapine and lurasidone on the gut microbiome were explored. Faecal and blood samples were collected weekly over a 21‐day period to analyse changes to the gut microbiome and related metabolic markers. Key Results: Lurasidone triggered no significant weight gain or metabolic alterations, instead positively modulating the gut microbiome through increases in mean operational taxonomical units (OTUs) and alpha diversity. This novel finding suggests an underlying mechanism for lurasidone's metabolic inertia. In contrast, olanzapine triggered a statistically significant decrease in mean OTUs, substantial compositional variation and a depletion in short‐chain fatty acid abundance. Microbiome depletion correlated with metabolic dysfunction, producing a 30% increase in weight gain, increased pro‐inflammatory cytokine expression, and increased blood glycaemic and triglyceride levels. Conclusion and Implications: Our results challenge the notion that all antipsychotics disrupt the gut microbiome similarly and highlights the potential benefits of gut‐neutral antipsychotics, such as lurasidone, in managing metabolic side effects. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been recognized as pivotal regulators in tumorigenesis, yet the biological functions as well as molecular mechanisms of the majority of circRNAs in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain elusive. We sought to unveil the expression profile and biological role of circMYBL2 in HCC. Initial microarray analyses were conducted to probe the expression profile of circMYBL2 in HCC cells, and qRTPCR analysis was then performed in HCC cell lines and tissues, revealing significant upregulation of circMYBL2. Subsequent experiments were conducted to evaluate the biological function of circMYBL2 in HCC progression. Furthermore, bioinformatics analysis, qRT-PCR analysis, luciferase reporter assays, and western blot analysis were employed to investigate the interplay among circMYBL2, miR-1205, and E2F1. CircMYBL2 was found to exhibit marked upregulation in tumor tissues as well as HCC cell lines. Elevated expression of circMYBL2 increased the proliferation and migration of HCC cells, whereas circMYBL2 knockdown elicited contrasting effects. Mechanistically, our results indicated that circMYBL2 promoted E2F1 expression and facilitated HCC progression by sponging miR-1205. Our findings revealed that circMYBL2 contributed to HCC progression through the circMYBL2/miR-1205/E2F1 axis, suggesting the potential of circMYBL2 as a novel target for HCC treatment or a prognostic biomarker for HCC. The optical spectroscopic classification of active galactic nuclei (AGN) into type 1 and type 2 can be understood in the frame of the AGN unification models. However, it remains unclear which physical properties are driving the classification into intermediate sub-types (1.0, 1.2, 1.5, 1.8, 1.9). To shed light on this issue, we present an analysis of the effect of extinction and AGN and host galaxy luminosities on sub-type determination for a sample of 159 X-ray selected AGN with a complete and robust optical spectroscopic classification. The sample spans a rest-frame 2–10 keV X-ray luminosity range of 1042–1046 erg s−1 and redshifts between 0.05 and 0.75. From the fitting of their ultraviolet-to-mid-infrared spectral energy distributions, we extracted the observed AGN over total AGN+galaxy contrast, optical/ultraviolet line-of-sight extinction, as well as host galaxy and AGN luminosities. The observed contrast exhibits a clear decline with sub-type, distinguishing two main groups: 1.0–5 and 1.8–2. This difference is partly driven by an increase in extinction following the same trend. Nevertheless, 50% of 1.9s and 2s lack sufficient extinction to explain the lack of detection of broad emission lines, unveiling the necessity of an additional effect. Our findings show that 1.8–2s preferentially live in host galaxies with higher luminosities while displaying similar intrinsic AGN luminosities to 1.0–5s. Consequently, the AGN to host galaxy luminosity ratio diminishes, hindering the detection of the emission of the broad emission lines, resulting in the 1.8–2 classification of those with insufficient extinction. Thus, the combination of increasing extinction and decreasing AGN over galaxy luminosity ratio, mainly driven by an increasing host galaxy luminosity, constitutes the main reasons behind the sub-type classification into 1.0–5 and 1.8–2. Exhaustive exercise is known to induce muscle damage characterized by inflammation and oxidative stress. Although "regular" and "weekend warrior" exercise regimens have been shown to confer comparable health benefits in human studies, such as reduced risks of all-cause, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and cancer mortality, their differential impacts on muscle damage post-exhaustive exercise remain unclear. This study aimed to compare the effects of long-term, moderate-intensity (LTMI) and short-term, high-intensity (STHI) training modalities, matched for total exercise volume, on gut microbiota, short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), and exhaustive exercise-induced muscle damage in mice, as well as to evaluate the correlation between these factors. LTMI is considered a regular exercise regimen, while STHI shares some similarities with the "weekend warrior" pattern, such as promoting exercise intensity and condensing training sessions into a short period. Our findings indicate that LTMI training significantly enhanced the abundance of SCFA-producing bacteria, including Akkermansia, Prevotellaceae_NK3B31_group, Odoribacter, Alistipes, and Lactobacillus, thereby increasing SCFA levels and attenuating muscle damage following exhaustive swimming. In contrast, STHI training increased the abundance of opportunistic pathogens such as Staphylococcus and Bilophila, without altering SCFA levels, and was associated with exacerbated muscle damage. Moreover, we observed a significant negative correlation between the abundance of SCFA-producing bacteria and SCFA levels with the expression of inflammatory cytokines in the muscle of mice post-exhaustive exercise. Conversely, the abundance of Staphylococcus and Bilophila showed a notable positive correlation with these cytokines. Additionally, the effects of LTMI and STHI on exhaustive exercise-induced muscle damage were transmissible to untrained mice via fecal microbiota transplantation, suggesting that gut microbiota changes induced by these training modalities may contribute to their contrasting impacts on muscle damage. These results underscore the significance of selecting an appropriate training modality prior to engaging in exhaustive exercise, with implications for athletic training and injury prevention. This paper analyzes the heterogeneous influence of economic networks on urban economic resilience capacity from different network characteristics, providing an innovative research perspective and theoretical framework for the economic resilience capacity of urban clusters. The urban economic elasticity is measured by multiple indicators and constructed economic network using night light data, the complex network approach was combined with spatial econometrics to analyse the contribution of economic network linkages and economic network locations to regional economic resilience capacity. The results show that: urban economic network linkage has a significant positive impact on urban economic resilience capacity, and the polycentric pattern of urban clusters has a driving effect on this impact; in contrast, the influence of urban network location on economic resilience capacity has an inverted u-shaped curve. Compared with non-smart cities, regions in smart cities are better able to promote urban economic resilience capacity through economic networks, and the impact of economic networks on regional economic resilience capacity has network external spillover effects beyond geographical distance, The results of the study infer that cities in urban agglomeration should rationalize network locations, and build a coordinated urban agglomeration network structure to enhance economic resilience capacity of the regional economy. Environmental sustainability has become an increasingly urgent concern for organizations. While research explores various methods for promoting employee green behaviors (EGBs), the impact of these behaviors on employees themselves remains under-investigated. This study reveals that the interpersonal impacts of voluntary and compulsory EGBs differ significantly, despite their seemingly equivalent function. Drawing upon self-determination theory and utilizing three-wave data from 231 employees, we propose and test a process model that delineates how these two EGB forms exert contrasting effects on job engagement, burnout, and fatigue through affective organizational commitment and perceptions of environmental policies hindering productivity. Our findings offer a deeper understanding of the motivational underpinnings and downstream outcomes of EGBs. They also highlight the potential for negative consequences when organizations fail to distinguish between EGBs arising from voluntary endorsement and those driven by external compliance. As organizations strive to embed sustainability within their operations, they must prioritize fostering voluntary EGBs, aligning efforts with employees' personal values, rather than resorting to coercive measures.
