Objectives: This systematic review aimed to search the literature for the answer to the following questions. In human studies: Does the osseodensification technique increase the resonance frequency analysis given in implant stability quotient value and the insertion torque value compared to the conventional technique? In animal studies: Does the osseodensification technique increase implant stability quotient, bone-to-implant contact, and bone area fraction occupancy values over the conventional technique? Data sources: A search forstudies was carried out in eight databases until August 2021. Out of the 447 publications found, 11 were included. Results: In human studies, osseodensification technique showed better results for implant stability quotient values with a summarized median difference of 8.57. As for secondary stability, there was no significant difference, with summarized median difference of 4.49 in favor of the osseodensification technique. In animal studies, all results were favorable to the osseo-densification technique. Regarding insertion torque, bone-to-implant contact, and bone area fraction occupancy between counterclockwise osseodensification technique vs conventional, the mean difference was 46.79 for insertion torque, 2.17 for bone-to-implant contact, and 2.11 for bone area fraction occupancy. High heterogeneity was observed between the studies. The risk of bias in humans was moderate in three studies and low in one; and in animal studies, four presented moderate risk, two low risk, and one high risk. The certainty of evidence ranged from low to moderate. Conclusion: The osseodensification technique showed improvement concerning the resonance frequency and the insertion torque value of implants in human studies. In addition, it increased the values of bone-to-implant contact, bone area fraction occupancy, and implantstability quotient in animal studies, when compared to the conventional technique. Introduction The aim of the study is to compare and evaluate shear bond strength of porcelain fused to metal substructure fabricated using conventional method, surface treated with different laser modalities and direct metal laser sintering. Material and Methods Forty samples made of Co-Cr were fabricated, divided into control (Group A) and three test groups (Group B, Group C, Group D) (n=10 each). Groups A, C, D samples were made by conventional lost wax technique and B by laser sintering. All the samples were sandblasted and group C and D were surface treated with Nd: YAG and Er: YAG lasers respectively. Further, samples were veneered using 2mm of porcelain. The samples were placed in a jig and held in a universal testing machine to test the bond strength between Co-Cr and porcelain. Samples were subjected to shear stress until the fracture occurred and the results were noted. Data analysis was done using oneway analysis of variance and Post-Hoc test. Results The mean shear bond strength was highest in group D (Er: YAG laser treated Co-Cr), then group B (Laser sintered Co-Cr), then group A (Sandblasted Co-Cr) and group C (Nd: YAG laser treated Co-Cr) which was the least. Conclusion All the groups showed significant difference in shear bond strength. Er: YAG laser surface treated Co- Cr had highest bond strength to porcelain, then laser sintered Co-Cr, followed by sandblasted Co-Cr and least Nd: YAG surface treated Co- Cr. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: This is an era of minimally invasive and least traumatic surgical interventions being focused on. The traditional scalpel frenectomy technique offers an increase in post-operative sequelae. To unravel this scenario a comparative evaluation is carried out to find out the clinical outcomes and quality of life after maxillary labial frenectomy using a conventional scalpel and diode laser frenectomy of 980 nm. Materials and Methods: Thirty-six subjects age ranging between 18 and 45 years reported to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, MES Dental College, Perinthalmanna with an aberrant frenal attachment of maxillary labial frenum were randomly assigned into two groups. Group A underwent the conventional scalpel technique and group B for the diode laser-assisted (980 nm) frenectomy technique. The post-operative parameters of ooze from the surgical site, pain, wound healing, and discomfort or acceptance of the procedure were assessed on day 1, day 7, and day 14, respectively. Results: The diode laser group exhibited statistically significant clinical and healing outcomes. Less pain, minimal or absent ooze, increased healing, and better acceptance of the procedure with diode laser at 1, 7, and 14 days recall visit. Conclusion: Surgical interventions involving needle puncture and the associated post-operative sequelae are the most dreaded experiences that make patients indifferent toward surgical treatments. Thus in terms of better clinical outcomes and improved quality of life diode laser frenectomy is an excellent alternative wherein a needleless anesthetic success followed by minimal surgical intervention and less post-operative sequelae with fast recovery is possible.

Objective: This study aimed to compare the outcomes of sternotomy closure using conventional and hybrid techniques and investigate their associated complications in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted, analyzing data from medical records and surgical databases. The study included a cohort of patients who underwent sternotomy closure using conventional and hybrid techniques at a tertiary care hospital. Patient demographics, surgical details, intraoperative factors, postoperative outcomes, and follow-up information were collected. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize the data. Results: A total of 50 patients and 25 in each group. The majority of cases are off pump (42 patients) and on pump (8 patients) .Analysis of postoperative outcomes showed that 92% of patients achieved satisfactory sternal healing, and bone fusion was observed in 98% of cases. The rate of sternal dehiscence was 2%, with no statistically significant difference between the two closure techniques (p=0.62). Surgical site infections occurred in 9% of patients, with no significant difference between the closure groups (p=0.88) Conclusion: Both conventional and hybrid techniques demonstrated comparable efficacy in achieving successful sternal union after sternotomy closure. The rates of sternal dehiscence and surgical site infections were similar between the closure techniques. Further research is needed to identify risk factors and develop preventive strategies to reduce complications associated with sternotomy closure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Maxillectomy is the surgical removal or resection of the maxilla or upper jaw bone. Maxillectomy may be total or partial. It is performed during surgical treatment of cancer and infections (bacterial. fungal) of the oral cavity, nasal cavity and maxillary sinuses. Patient affected from post-Covid mucormycosis require local debridement or surgical resection resulting in maxillectomy. After surgery, patient has difficulty in mastication, speech, and swallowing because of communication between oral and nasal cavity. This may also give rise to psychological challenges and social exclusion. The prosthodontic rehabilitation of such patient using obturator provide a separation between oral and nasal cavity and improve the quality of life of the patient. There are various techniques and materials used for fabrication of definitive obturator. This article discusses the prosthodontic rehabilitation after maxillectomy in post-covid mucormycosis patients using obturator by conventional and 3D printed techniques.

Introduction: Studies searching outcomes of eversion carotid endarterectomy (E-CEA) under local anesthesia are lacking. Aim: To evaluate the postoperative outcomes of E-CEA under local anesthesia and compare it with E-CEA/Conventional CEA under general anesthesia in symptomatic or asymptomatic patients. Material and methods: From February 2010 to November 2018 a total of 182 patients (143 males, 39 females; mean age: 69.69 ±9.88 years; range: 47 to 92 years) who underwent eversion CEA or conventional CEA with patchplasty under general or local anesthesia in two tertiary centers were included in this study. Results: Overall in-hospital stay (p = 0.01), postoperative in-hospital stay (p = 0.022) took significantly less time in favor of E-CEA under local anesthesia. Overall, 6 patients developed major stroke (3.2%), among them 4 (2.1%) patients passed away, 7 (3.8%) patients developed cranial nerve injury (the marginal mandibular branch of the facial nerve and hypoglossal nerve), 10 (5.4%) patients developed a hematoma in the postoperative period. No difference was found in terms of postoperative stroke (p = 0.470), postoperative death (p = 0.703), postoperative bleeding rate (p = 0.521) or postoperative cranial nerve injury (p = 0.481) between the groups. Conclusions: The mean operation time, postoperative in-hospital stay, overall in-hospital stay, and need for shunting were lower in patients who underwent E-CEA under local anesthesia. E-CEA under local anesthesia seemed to do better in stroke, death, and bleeding rate, however, this difference was not significant. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Foodborne pathogens are a major public health concern and have a significant economic impact globally. From harvesting to consumption stages, food is generally contaminated by viruses, parasites, and bacteria, which causes foodborne diseases such as hemorrhagic colitis, hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), typhoid, acute, gastroenteritis, diarrhea, and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP). Hence, early detection of foodborne pathogenic microbes is essential to ensure a safe food supply and to prevent foodborne diseases. The identification of foodborne pathogens is associated with conventional (e.g., culture-based, biochemical test-based, immunological-based, and nucleic acid-based methods) and advances (e.g., hybridization-based, array-based, spectroscopy-based, and biosensor-based process) techniques. For industrial food applications, detection methods could meet parameters such as accuracy level, efficiency, quickness, specificity, sensitivity, and non-labor intensive. This review provides an overview of conventional and advanced techniques used to detect foodborne pathogens over the years. Therefore, the scientific community, policymakers, and food and agriculture industries can choose an appropriate method for better results.

Objectives. This study aimed at comparing the methodologies for achieving an occlusal-mesial ceramic inlay using both the conventional and digital methods in terms of workflow protocol, aesthetic and functional results, working time, but also costs and equipment needed. Material and methods. A 22-year-old patient presented with a direct mesio-occlusal composite restoration with a secondary marginal decay in tooth 3.6 that was subsequently restored by a ceramic inlay manufactured using both traditional and digital methods. Outcomes. The dental technician's talent, experience, and vision guided the technical process of creating the conventional inlay. The technical process of producing the digital inlay involved fewer laboratory stages, but also contamination risks than conventional ones, removing potential human errors associated with each stage and allowing possible changes to be made more quickly and efficiently. The conventional method took more time to complete all of the laboratory steps than the digital method. Conclusions. When compared to the digital method, the traditional method allowed the dental technician to achieve a high level of individualization of the prosthetic restoration. Digital techniques are a method of the future that is rapidly growing and improving. Digital techniques for obtaining an inlay involved high-performance equipment, which is pricey to purchase and maintain.

Halal authentication has become essential in the food industry to ensure food is free from any prohibited ingredients according to Islamic law. Diversification of food origin and adulteration issues have raised concerns among Muslim consumers. Therefore, verification of food constituents and their quality is paramount. From conventional methods based on physical and chemical properties, various diagnostic methods have emerged relying on protein or DNA measurements. Protein-based methods that have been used in halal detection including electrophoresis, chromatographic-based methods, molecular spectroscopy and immunoassays. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) are DNA-based techniques that possess better accuracy and sensitivity. Biosensors are miniatured devices that operate by converting biochemical signals into a measurable quantity. CRISPR-Cas is one of the latest novel emerging nucleic acid detection tools in halal food analysis as well as quantification of stable isotopes method for identification of animal species. Within this context, this review provides an overview of the various techniques in halal detection along with their advantages and limitations. We compared robotic-assisted scaphoid screw fixation to conventional technique in terms of accuracy, surgical times, radiation exposure, and clinical outcomes, including range of motion, grip strength, functional score, and complications. This study was a registered, prospective, randomized, controlled trial. From May 2019 to December 2019, 1 surgeon performed 18 robotic-assisted and 18 conventional scaphoid screw fixations and these patients were eligible for participation in this study. Surgical time, including the time of the overall procedure, set-up time, and time for ideal guidewire placement, was recorded. The number of guidewire attempts also was recorded. All patients were evaluated clinically and radiographically at follow-up with respect to the severity of pain, wrist motion, grip strength, complications, and Mayo modified wrist score. The average set-up time and overall time of the procedure were longer in the robotic-assisted than in the conventional groups, while the mean guidewire insertion time and the mean guidewire attempts was less in the robotic-assisted group than that of the conventional group. The overall radiation exposure was lower in the robotic group. Robotic-assisted technique provided a useful tool to improve implantation accuracy and shorten radiation exposure. Objective: To compare thyroidectomy by Ligasure™ with conventional technique in terms of mean intra operative blood loss. Study Design: Randomized Control Trial. Setting: Surgical Unit-I, Allied Hospital Faisalabad. Period: August 2018 to April 2019. Material & Methods: All the patients were admitted through out-patient department. Informed consent was taken. The patients were counseled on expected outcome particularly on cosmesis and possible complications, especially the expectant management of seroma. Clinical examination was done to confirm the diagnosis. Preoperative investigation was carried out in the ward. Patients were divided in 2 groups by lottery method. Group A included patients in which total thyroidectomy was done using Ligasure vessel sealing system. Group B included patients in which total thyroidectomy was done using conventional thread ligation technique. All patients were given general anesthesia. Patients in each group had surgery by respective method. Intraoperative blood loss was measured by weighing the dry gauze preoperatively and soaked gauze post operatively. Difference in weight was given estimated blood loss that was recorded in milliliters. Results: In our study, out of 70 cases, 42.86%(n=15) in Group-A and 34.29%(n=12) in Group-B were between 18-50 years of age whereas 57.14%(n=20) in Group-A and 65.71%(n=23) in Group-B were between 51-70 years of age, mean+sd was calculated as 50.86+7.94 years in Group-A and 53.26+6.57 years in Group-B, 34.29%(n=12) in Group-A and 28.57%(n=10) in Group-B were male whereas 65.71%(n=23) in Group-A and 71.43%(n=25) in Group-B were females, comparison of thyroidectomy by Ligasure™ with conventional technique in terms of mean intra operative blood loss shows that 61.31+4.37 ml in Group-A and 72.11+3.83 ml in Group-B, p value was 0.0001. Conclusion: We concluded that Ligasure™ is significantly better when compared with conventional technique during thyroidectomy in terms of mean intra operative blood loss. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Kegiatan pemanenan kayu memberikan kontribusi yang sangat besar terhadap produksi kayu. Pohon produksi yang berada di dalam hutan tidak dapat dimanfaatkan jika tidak ditebang dan tidak dikeluarkan dari dalam hutan. Metode penelitian ini adalah membuat 6 plot contoh pengamatan (PCP) masing-masing 3 PCP untuk teknik perbaikan (TP) dan 3 PCP untuk teknik konvensional (TK) pada satu petak tebang, melakukan penebangan pohon dan penyaradan dengan TP dan TK, melakukan pengamatan dan pengukuran produktivitas pemanenan kayu dan luas areal hutan yang terbuka akibat penebangan dan penyaradan serta menganalisis pengaruh kedua teknik terhadap produktivitas areal hutan terbuka dengan uji t. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh dua teknik pemanenan kayu terhadap produktivitas dan areal hutan terbuka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa : 1) Rata-rata produktivitas penebangan dengan TK dan TP masing-masing adalah 10,60 m3/jam dan 13,95 m3/jam 2) Rata-rata produktivitas penyaradan dengan TK dan TP masing-masing adalah 7,25 m3/jam dan 9,60 m3/jam; 3) Rata-rata areal hutan terbuka akibat penebangan dengan TK dan TP masing-masing adalah 15,67% dan 7,43% ; 4) Rata-rata areal hutan terbuka akibat penyaradan dengan TK dan TP masing-masing adalah 10,50% dan 6,68%. Menerapkan teknik perbaikan dapat mengurangi terjadinya keterbukaan hutan pada penebangan dan penyaradan masing-masing sebesar 8,24% dan 3,82%. ABSTRACT Timber harvesting provides a very large contribution to timber production. Tree production that is in the forest can't be used if they are not felling and removed from the forest. This research method is to make 6 sample observation plot (SOP) each 3 SOP for improving technique (IT) and 3 SOP for conventional technique (CT) on one logging compartment, do felling and skidding by IT and CT, make observations, and measuring the productivity of timber harvesting and the area of open forest due to felling and skidding and analyzing the effect of the two techniques on the productivity of the open forest area with t-test. The research objective was to determine the effect of two timber harvesting techniques on productivity and open forest areas. The results showed that the average productivity of felling by CT and IT was 10.60 m3/hour and 13.95 m3/hour respectively. The average productivity of skidding by CT and IT was 7.25 m3/hour and 9.60 m3/hour respectively. The average open forest area due to felling by CT and IT was 15.6% and 7.43% respectively. The average open forest area due to skidding by CT and IT was 10.50% and 6.68% respectively. Applying improve technique reduced the open forest area through felling and skidding by 8.24% and 3.82% respectively.

This research aims to study the effect of nanosecond laser parameters on the paint removal process and obtain a set of parameters that would result in the highest paint removal efficiency. In this study, the effect of laser paint removal parameters such as power, defocus distance, and the number of loops are studied with an optical microscope to observe surface features. The laser paint removal process is conducted using the IPG YLM200/30 - Q pulsed fiber laser machine. The process sample was examined with an optical microscope to analyze the effectiveness of this laser paint removal process. The results indicated that the power and number of loops significantly enhance the paint removal process. The selection of correct frequency, power, hatching distance, scanning speed, and defocus distance also play a significant part in the efficiency of the laser paint removal process. Objective: To evaluate the clinical performance of direct composite restorations using the modified stamp technique (MST) in vivo. Methods: A total of 30 posterior teeth with undermining caries were randomly divided into two groups and then restored using the MST and conventional technique (CT), respectively. 3D images of the occlusal surface were obtained using an intraoral scanner (CEREC Omnicam, Dentsply Sirona, Charlotte, NC, USA) before and after treatment and the differences between these two 3D images were analysed with reverse engineering software. Statistical analysis was performed using a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) combined with a least significant difference (LSD) post hoc test using SPSS 20.0 software (IBM, Armonk, NY, USA). Results: The statistical analysis revealed that the average root mean square (RMS) values of best fit alignment errors were significantly different between groups (P < 0.01). The average RMS values in the MST and CT groups were 0.0738 ± 0.0279 and 0.1638 ± 0.0682, respectively. The LSD post hoc test revealed that the value was significant smaller in the MST group than in the CT group. Conclusion: The MST was effective in direct composite restoration. The current study concerns the recycling of the used reverse osmosis membrane named DOW FILMTEC™ SW30HR-380. The performance improvement includes the following steps:(1) Molecular characterization of the used membrane where it contributes to understanding the physico-chemical properties of reverse osmosis membranes and their performance, using different analytical techniques like FTIR, SEM and tensile strength. (2) reuse of the Polysulfone layer of the membrane as a filter for the turbidity removal of surface water.(3) Comparison between the turbidity removal % by the Polysulfone layers (arranged in a disc filter) and the conventional coagulants. From the results, we found that SEM photographs were an evidence for the high fabrication of the membrane. The coating layer showed a high hydrophilic hydroxyl group appearing in FTIR spectra. Mechanically, the polyamide layer showed the best tensile properties. Raw water quality and the conditions leading to filter clogging were discussed. The removal percentage of turbidity and algae from surface water reached 60 and 80% respectively using five successive Polysulfone layers with a surface area of 12.5 cm2/layer. At the same turbidity, tested coagulants achieved higher removal % than that of the Polysulfone layers. On one hand, the recycled reverse osmosis membrane may be used as an alternative technique for removing turbidity and algae, while on the other hand, it reduces harmful effects and emissions. The research has three formulations of the problem that how students’ motivation in learning English taught by using conventional technique is, how students’ motivation in learning English taught by using picture sories is, and whether or not there is a significant difference of students’ motivation in learning English between students who are taught by using conventional technique and those taught by using picture stories. This research is causal-comperative research. There are two variables in this research. They are x variable (using picture stories) as independent variable and y variable (students’ motivation in learning English) as dependent variable. Based on the writer’ preliminary study of the second year students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru, showed that students’ motivation in learning English was low. The writer had tried to solve this problem by implementing the picture stories as media. The pictures were one of the media in teaching and learning process that could be implemented to the students in learning English. The objective of this research was to find out whether there was a significance difference of using picture stories toward students’ motivation in learning English. The sample of this research was the second year students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru. The writer used observation and questionnaire to collect the data of this research. The data were analyzed by using T-test. Having analyzed the data with independent sample T-test, it can be seen that there is a significance difference between using picture stories and conventional technique toward motivation in learning English of the second year students’ of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Pekanbaru. It was provided by finding t0 (3.510), which is greater than t-table at 5% grade of significance (2.04) and at 1% grade significance (2.76). And to = 3.510 is higher than ttabel from sig. 5% and 1% (2.04 < 3.510 > 2.76). It means there is significance difference between students’ motivation by using picture stories and conventional technique.

Thyroid is a highly vascular gland and hemostasis is a key limiting factor in morbidity and mortality in thyroid surgery. Hemostasis has always been a challenge and various techniques have been used. Vessel sealers like Ligasure are now gaining popularity. Objectives: The objective of this study is to compare thyroidectomy by Ligasure with conventional technique in terms of mean operative time and post-operative blood loss. Study Design: It is a Randomized Control Trial. Setting: Surgical Department of Allied Hospital Faisalabad. Period: Six months (March 2017 to August 2017). Material & Methods: After approval of study from ethical review committee and informed consent, the patients were subjected to complete history and clinical examination in addition to baseline investigations. Total 135 patients of multinodular goiter (MNG) and euthyroid were divided in two groups by simple random sampling. All surgeries were performed under general anesthesia with orotracheal intubation and procedure offered to each patient was subtotal thyroidectomy. Both techniques were compared by measuring the time from opening of pretracheal fascia till its closure in minutes by stop watch and mean was calculated. Post operative blood loss was measured in graduated drain placed in thyroid bed for 24 hours. Results: Mean operative time was recorded as 62.11+4.07 minutes in Ligasure technique group and 73.05+4.01 minutes in conventional technique group. Mean blood loss was recorded as 57.28+3.42 ml in Ligasure technique group and 70.85+4.12 ml in conventional technique group. Conclusion: We concluded that mean operative time and post operative blood loss is significantly lower in cases undergoing thyroidectomy with Ligasure as compared to conventional technique. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare conventional and modified lip repositioning surgical techniques used for management of gummy smile involving hyperactive lip elevator muscles. Methods and Materials.: A prospective study was conducted between April 2016 and May 2017. Twenty two adult patients aged 18‐38 years with gummy smile ranging from 4 to 6 mm because of soft tissue disorders were included in the study. All patients were treated in the oral and maxillofacial department at Damascus University. The sample was divided into two groups of 11 patients. The first group was treated by the conventional standard technique, and the second group treated by a modified study technique. The amount of gingival display in full smile was evaluated in both groups following each intervention. Results: Both groups exhibited a statistically significant reduction in the measurement of gummy smile at month 1 and 6 postoperatively (P < .05), but there was no significant difference in gingival display at 3 months in either group postoperatively (P > .05). The recent study showed a significant difference in gingival display between 3 and 6 months postoperatively in group 1, but no significant difference in group 2. Conclusion: This study showed that the modified technique utilized in treating gummy smile has less relapse after surgery, shows excellent cosmesis and compared to the conventional technique, greater sustainability. Clinical significance: The recent increase in demand for an esthetic smile has led to the development a modification of conventional lip repositioning for correcting gummy smile by myotomy of lip elevator muscles. Background: Exfoliative cytology is the microscopic examination of shed or desquamated cells from the epithelial surface. Centrifuged liquid-based cytology (CLBC) is a modified technique that was used in the current study. Aims: To compare the efficacy of CLBC with conventional cytology in apparently normal mucosa after staining with Papanicolaou (PAP) stain. Materials and Methods: Fifty cases of apparently normal mucosa from healthy subjects were selected for the study. The first sample was taken and spread on the slide by the conventional technique. The second sample was flushed out in a suspending solution, centrifuged, and the cell pellet obtained was used to make the smear. The stained smears were compared for seven parameters such as adequate cellularity, clear background, uniform distribution, cellular overlapping, cellular elongation, mucus, and inflammatory cells. Chi-square test was used for statistical analysis and P ≤ 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Results: There was a statistically significant difference between CLBC and conventional cytology with parameters such as adequate cellularity (P = 0.001), clear background (P = 0.001), uniform distribution (0.005), cellular overlapping, and cellular elongation (P = 0). The presence of mucus and inflammatory cells was minimal as the samples were collected from healthy subjects. Conclusion: CLBC has better efficacy over the conventional method in all the parameters analyzed.

The objective of this study is to get empirical evidence whether there is a significant difference between the class which is taught by andragogy technique and which is taught by conventional technique. This article describes that technique is one of the important factors in conducting Arabic class. This study categorized as an experimental research. The data is collected by giving the test for both experimental and conventional class. The result of the study shows that experimental class which is taught by applying andragogy technique get higher score than the conventional one. Means that Al-Ittihad Islamic Boarding School get higher score than Ulil Albâb. It seems that technique influences the quality of teaching and learning Arabic.DOI: 10.15408/a.v2i1.1512

Aim: This is an era of minimally invasive and least traumatic surgical interventions being focused on. The traditional scalpel frenectomy technique offers an increase in post-operative sequelae. To unravel this scenario a comparative evaluation is carried out to find out the clinical outcomes and quality of life after maxillary labial frenectomy using a conventional scalpel and diode laser frenectomy of 980 nm., Materials and Methods: Thirty-six subjects age ranging between 18 and 45 years reported to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, MES Dental College, Perinthalmanna with an aberrant frenal attachment of maxillary labial frenum were randomly assigned into two groups. Group A underwent the conventional scalpel technique and group B for the diode laser-assisted (980 nm) frenectomy technique. The post-operative parameters of ooze from the surgical site, pain, wound healing, and discomfort or acceptance of the procedure were assessed on day 1, day 7, and day 14, respectively., Results: The diode laser group exhibited statistically significant clinical and healing outcomes. Less pain, minimal or absent ooze, increased healing, and better acceptance of the procedure with diode laser at 1, 7, and 14 days recall visit., Conclusion: Surgical interventions involving needle puncture and the associated post-operative sequelae are the most dreaded experiences that make patients indifferent toward surgical treatments. One smear was taken and spread on the slide by a conventional technique. The second sample was flushed out in a suspending solution, centrifuged, and the cell pellet obtained was used to make the smear. The stained smears were compared for nine parameters such as adequate cellularity, clear background, uniform distribution, cellular overlapping, cellular elongation, mucus, inflammatory blood, and microbial colonies. Chi-square test was used for statistical analysis and P ≤ 0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results: There was a statistically significant result with parameters such as adequate cellularity, clear background, uniform distribution, cellular overlapping, and cellular elongation in CLBC technique, in comparison with the conventional technique. The presence of mucus, microbial colonies, and inflammatory cells were also less in CLBC technique in comparison with the conventional technique.Conclusion: CLBC has better efficacy over conventional method in all the parameters analyzed.
