SUSTAINABLE agriculture , *QUALITY of life , *SCIENCE databases , *WEB databases , *SUSTAINABLE development - Abstract
The process of globalization, which acts through its webs, permeates world trends, demanding new forms and alternatives of the organization from societies. The reality of the market and its economic and educational links also present new perspectives, potentialities and challenges, which require the effective participation of people in the search for viable economic and environmentally correct alternatives. In this context, family farming cooperatives present forms of mutual help in solving common concerns, creating opportunities from influencing their activities with cooperative members. Thus, this article aims to analyze the impacts of the actions of family farming cooperatives on the sustainability of rural producers in the municipalities of Umuarama and Dois Vizinhos, in Paraná state. To meet the aims, exploratory-descriptive research was used in the Web of Science database. The results move between four main focuses in the analyzed articles: farmers' perception, cooperative practices, quality of life, and management and satisfaction, which directly impact the sustainability of its members. According to the perception of the cooperative members of the two municipalities, cooperative practices are indifferent to their sustainability. Regarding the quality of life and management, cooperatives contribute to social involvement, interaction, integration, and solidarity among members, improve the quality of life and well-being of farmers, and involve members in decisionmaking in meetings and assemblies, generating sustainability over the quality of life and management. As for the indicator of the satisfaction of its members, the actions of cooperatives have a direct impact on sustainability since these actions are generating profitability and partnership with their members.

COMMUNITY-based participatory research , *BIOSPHERE reserves , *BUSINESSPEOPLE , *SEMI-structured interviews , *SUSTAINABLE development - Abstract
In the face of profound changes and needs in rural environments, tourism represents a holistic development alternative for the use of resources and social cohesion that generates benefits. In the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve in Querétaro, Mexico, several community-based tourism ventures have recently been integrated but work in a disjointed manner, limiting their strengthening and consolidation. The objective of the present study was to analyze whether the integration of a network can be a tool for local development in the region. Through participatory action research with a constructivist approach and techniques such as semi-structured interviews, community workshops and participatory observation, the visionary perspective of the communities, entrepreneurs, and the main public, private and governmental institutional actors at the local level was rescued. The results highlight cooperativism, from a theoretical perspective, as a cornerstone of community tourism, where social cohesion generates better results. On the other hand, from practice, the Network was formed with self-management and protagonism of the community, in a solidary, viable and environmentally responsible tourism activity. It is concluded by visualizing that planning from the cooperation among diverse actors can achieve a development with a sustainable approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Minas Gerais is the largest strawberry producer in Brazil. The adoption of the certification of integrated strawberry production (PIMo) would result in the commercialization of safe and quality products. The objective of this work was to implement and analyze the compliance level of the family farmers of Cooperativa Agropecuária de Alfredo Vasconcelos - MG (COOPRAV) to PIMo, aiming at certification and obtaining the quality seal. A project "Integrated Strawberry Production: Towards Certification" was prepared with the objective of adapting the farm and process to the Specific Technical Standards for Integrated Strawberry Production. The project followed three procedures: 1) workshops including theoretical and practical training; 2) monthly technical attendance; 3) participatory audits. During the workshops, there was a great demand for knowledge related to pest and diseases management and pesticide application technology. In the technical attendance, it was possible to adapt the structures of the property to the standards of the PIMo, as well as proposing the use of the field book and good agricultural practices that allowed gains in productivity. During the participatory audits, ten non-conformities were identified, which were adequate to meet the standards. Six properties were considered suitable for use the PIMo seal and the cooperative reached a production potential of 121,700 kg of certified strawberries, with a reduction of 80% in the use of fungicides, 70% in the use of insecticides and substantial gains related to the organization properties with to the places for storing pesticides and strawberry packaging.

Objective: Analyze the forms of territorial governance that are being built in the municipalities of Zapotitlán Salinas, Chila de la sal and Xicotlán at the Mixteca of Puebla, around the production of spring salt. Methodology: Review of the literature on the topic and field work between April 2022 and July 2023, carrying out 42 semi-structured interviews. Results: The recently created cooperatives as part of collective actions contribute to increasing levels of trust among producers. Limitations: Cooperatives and meetings of salt farmers to identify common problems and solutions have not yet managed to trigger local development around the use of salt. Conclusions: The distribution of resources and the organization for their use generates forms of territorial governance that oscillate between the inclusion or exclusion of salt producers. The perspective of ecoocreativity (a neologism that unites ecology, cooperativism and creativity) is to bring about a deliberate political abandonment of the economistic regulatory criteria of Saxon origin, instituted by New Public Management and the guidelines of the Washington Consensus. This is the cause of the current political disaster and the politics of disaster in Latin America. It is a necessary condition, on the one hand, to encourage social experience to propitiate the creation of a new ecological (eco-creative) class, which could establish the parameters of a new post-neoliberal imaginary. On the other hand, because it is necessary to avoid the repetition of the "more of the same" of hegemonic economism. Another alternative is the "eco-fascist" perspectives, the result of substantive democratic degradation. For this reason, we propose twelve criteria for action as a horizon of what is possible to experience collectively, to make a general contribution to the democratic political debate.

The constructivist approach to community development recognizes the transformative and innovative role of the social aspect (social capital) of social economic organizations, to promote inclusive processes of resource mobilization and management of the commons. The research identifies relational strengths and weaknesses in rural productive organizations of the social economy of the province of Manabí-Ecuador, through the assessment of social capital. The methodology applied to assess social capital incorporates components of the institutional, cognitive and structural dimension, in three areas of analysis: territorial context, profile of the organization and relationship between members. At the territorial level, the limited coverage of public services affects all organizations, makes living conditions precarious, makes relationships difficult and confines development opportunities. The assessment of the organizational profile shows strengths to establish roles, rules and procedures and weakness in the construction of networks with external actors. For the relationship between members, the difficulty lies in maintaining a shared vision and sanctioning opportunistic behavior. Therefore, identifying the differences in the relational conditions of organizations, according to the level of social capital endowment, it is useful to guide the formulation of practical intervention strategies that promote local development through the strengthening of associations and cooperatives. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a global priority in terms of commitment to the responsible development of society. This paper focuses on beekeeping as a strategic sector of the Argentine economy due to its important socio-economic and environmental impacts. The objective of this research is to analyze the practices of beekeeping entities in their alignment with the achievement of the SDGs (with a focus on SDGs 5, 8, 9, 12 and 17), paying special attention to the differential contribution of companies with cooperative formula. It focuses on actions related to work organization, production, innovation and market insertion. To this end, we used variable significance analysis for 2x2 matrices and multivariate factor analysis of multiple correspondences. The results obtained show that there is a positive alignment between the practices of beekeeping sector entities and SDG 5, SDG 12 and SDG 17, with a differential and positive trend for organizations with a cooperative formula. However, the results also show the future challenges faced by the sector, especially with regard to SDGs 8 and 9. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

COOPERATIVE banking industry , *SOCIAL influence , *ECONOMIC development , *COOPERATIVE societies , *BUSINESS enterprises - Abstract
Cooperativism as a socioeconomic model, with its organizations, increasingly has the potential to influence the needs of communities, especially in the Latin American region. In Ecuador, the presence of cooperatives in the savings and credit sector is notorious from the economic and financial point of view, however, the evidence that the social component is not handled at the same level, based on previous studies, constitutes the main background for the development of this work that shows an analytical and systemic reflection on the matter. An analysis of the situation of the national cooperative sector was carried out to reinforce the role of cooperatives as socioeconomic enterprises with extraordinary capacities to achieve the change to which families, communities and the nation aspire. The research developed is of a theoretical and analytical nature. A systemic analysis was obtained with certain recommendations in relation to overcoming the problems present in Ecuadorian savings and credit cooperatives, with a view to integrally managing the social and economic components, a fundamental premise for achieving the results expected from their activity at the local and national level.

On one hand, this research is framed within the results of two Spanish public housing interventions, and on the other, the beginnings of an extended collaborative housing model on the island of Gran Canaria. The research analyzes collaborative housing and its relationship with the management mechanisms that can or should accompany public policies for housing, by observing the cases of Andalusia and Barcelona, both inspired by Uruguay's cooperative housing model. After studying the case on the island of Gran Canaria, the need for housing policies that incorporate mutual aid, transfer of use, cooperativism, or citizen participation is proposed. Many family farmers use cooperativism as a tool to strengthen productive environments and envision productive diversification as an income generation strategy. This study analyzed the diversification project promoted by CAPUL in 2020, in the municipality of Arinos - MG, focusing on the production of free-range birds (Gallus gallus domesticus) to supply the demand for school meals and local commerce. The objective of this study was to analyze the economic and social impacts that the project generated in the lives of family farmers and elucidate the relevance of cooperativism for the promotion of productive diversification, as well as to highlight the detachments and obstacles that existed during the execution of the project. The self-administered questionnaire was used as the primary data source, considering a universe of 14 family farmers. The data were obtained through qualitative and quantitative instruments and were tabulated using the Microsoft Excel program. For descriptive statistical analysis of the results, a cluster analysis was used with the hierarchical method by the Ward model. It is concluded with this research that the project entitled Frango Caipirão CAPUL caused impacts on the lives of family farmers and that the cooperative, through its ATER actions, exerted influences on the social and economic reproduction of the participants of that study, contributing to the strengthening family farming. It is implied, therefore, that other actions in the same segment can use this master's dissertation as a guideline. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article aims to present a portrait of cooperativism in Brazil, from the years of 2010 to 2018. Starting from a historical perspective, we describe the different branches of cooperativism and then analyze the context of the Brazilian cooperative movement, taking into account some of the main characteristics that make it possible to draw a profile of the movement, such as: number of cooperatives, number of cooperative members and total jobs generated. The data were segmented by line of business, according to the classification proposed by the Organization of Brazilian Cooperatives (OCB). As for the methodological procedures, the study was defined as bibliographic-descriptive and qualitative; bibliographic-descriptive, since it was based on the organization and analysis of existing materials, describing the properties of the cooperative phenomenon; and qualitative, since the aim was to interpret meanings, not seeking regularities, but the understanding of the object studied. Finally, from the interpretation of the information gathered, it was possible to perceive the importance of cooperativism in the Brazilian context, not only in terms of facing specific issues, but also in relation to its potential for expansion and as a viable alternative for the social and economic inclusion of the most vulnerable strata, capable of expanding the democratic frontiers to the organizational field.
