The COVID-19 pandemic has not only caused physical health concerns but has also resulted in widespread mental distress and disruptions to daily life. The implementation of large-scale lockdowns and quarantines has heightened uncertainty and stress levels among individuals worldwide. Guided by the O-S-O-R model, this study investigates whether gaming can relieve the quarantine-invoking stress during the COVID-19 pandemic in China and explores the underlying mechanisms. Through propensity score matching and t-tests, the results showed that players perceived lower levels of stress during the quarantine compared to nonplayers. Furthermore, the study used PLS-SEM to uncover the chain relationship of "uncertainty-gaming-distraction-stress relief", while gaming doesn't directly alleviate stress, but rather relies on the mediating of distraction. These findings contribute to the development of serious games designed for quarantine situations and highlight the importance of addressing the mental health of quarantined individuals during future epidemic control efforts. Understanding the stress-relieving effects of gaming in quarantine environments is crucial for safeguarding the well-being of individuals in similar situations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This randomized controlled study aimed to determine the effects of yoga on coping with stress in adolescents. The study was conducted in the Famagusta province of Northern Cyprus between September and November 2021. The sample of the study comprised 62 adolescents between the ages of 13 and 16 years, including 30 in the intervention and 32 in the control groups. The descriptive information form, the child and resilience measure (CYRM), and the Kidcope were used for data collection. The intervention group received a 10-week yoga program of 60 minutes twice a week. Pre- and posttest scores were calculated to measure the impact of yoga on resilience and coping with stress. There was a statistically significant difference between the pre- and posttest scores of the yoga intervention group (P < .05). Besides, there was a statistically significant difference between the scores obtained by the intervention and control groups from the CYRM and the subscales of the Kidcope (P < .05). These findings imply that yoga contributes to resilience and coping with stress in adolescents. Based on the findings, we suggest that psychiatric nurses may incorporate yoga to protect the mental health of adolescents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Backround The utilization of high-quality water in agriculture is increasingly constrained by climate change, affecting availability, quality, and distribution due to altered precipitation patterns, increased evaporation, extreme weather events, and rising salinity levels. Salinity significantly challenges salt-sensitive vegetables like lettuce, particularly in a greenhouse. Hydroponics water quality ensures nutrient solution stability, enhances nutrient uptake, prevents contamination, regulates pH and electrical conductivity, and maintains system components. This study aimed to mitigate salt-induced damage in lettuce grown via the floating culture method under 50 mM NaCl salinity by applying biostimulants. Results We examined lettuce’s physiological, biochemical, and agronomical responses to salt stress after applying biostimulants such as amino acids, arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), fulvic acid, and chitosan. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse with a randomized complete block design, and each treatment was replicated four times. Biostimulant applications alleviated salt’s detrimental effects on plant weight, height, leaf number, and leaf area. Yield increases under 50 mM NaCl were 75%, 51%, 31%, 34%, and 33% using vermicompost, PGPR, fulvic acid, amino acid, and chitosan, respectively. Biostimulants improved stomatal conductance (58–189%), chlorophyll content (4–10%), nutrient uptake (15–109%), and water status (9–107%). They also reduced MDA content by 26–42%. PGPR (1.0 ml L‒1), vermicompost (2 ml L‒1), and fulvic acid (40 mg L‒1) were particularly effective, enhancing growth, yield, phenol, and mineral content while reducing nitrate levels under saline conditions. Conclusions Biostimulants activated antioxidative defense systems, offering a sustainable, cost-effective solution for mitigating salt stress in hydroponic lettuce cultivation.

Objective: The article aims to assess the role of stress and anxiety in relation to the level of emotional control among cancer patients. Currently cancer ranks second, after cardiovascular disease, as the most common cause of death. Moreover, it is predicted that in the coming years, cancer will become the leading cause of death worldwide. This is due to the extended lifespan of the population and also to the presence of carcinogenic factors in the surrounding environment. The emergence of cancer is a significant stressor that affects individuals in diverse ways, leading to cognitive, behavioral, and emotional consequences. In line with the adopted aim, emotional issues are the chosen area of exploration in this article. Methods: The study included 102 patients. The differences between the patients' results according to various scales and the results produced by the validation group data were examined using one‐sample t‐tests. The relationships between the quantitative variables were determined using Spearman's rho coefficients, and the relationships between the quantitative and qualitative variables were verified using Kruskal‐Wallis tests. Results: The participants exhibited higher anxiety suppression levels than individuals in the normalization group. They sought emotional support more frequently than the average person in the population, turned to religion, engaged in other such activities, lived in denial more often, discontinued activities, and displayed a sense of humor less frequently. The more frequently they controlled their anger, the less they sought emotional and instrumental support, catharsis, and attempted to accept the situation and cease being active. Additionally, controlling anxiety, sadness, and depression coexisted with self‐blame, denial, and compensatory actions. Conclusions: Cancer patients face intense anxiety. Emotional and instrumental support, along with the ability to express and manage emotions, are crucial for these patients, especially within the context of facing the challenge of cancer. Finding constructive ways to express strong and difficult emotions prevents their accumulation and reduces the need for emotional suppression. Preventive actions should be oriented toward supporting the emotional competencies of patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: It is known that assistant physicians in our country face heavy workload and significant difficulties during the specialty training process. It is thought that this situation may affect the stress and professional satisfaction levels of assistant physicians and cause mental and physical complaints. The aim of this study is to evaluate the ways of coping with stress and professional satisfaction levels in assistant physicians, as well as to investigate the current psychological symptoms of assistant physicians. Methods: A total of 174 assistant physicians who met the inclusion criteria participated in the study. Sociodemographic Data Form, Stress Coping Styles Scale, Professional Satisfaction Scale, Eysenck Personality Questionnaire and Symptom Screening Scale (SCL-90-R) were applied to the participants. Results: In our study, it was found that the most frequently used method of coping with stress among assistant physicians was the self-confident approach. Optimistic approach style and professional satisfaction levels; It was significantly higher in male physicians, aged 30 and over, and senior assistant physicians. The helpless approach style was detected more in assistant physicians whose residency period was 18 months or less. No significant relationship was found between styles of coping with stress and levels of professional satisfaction. When looking at the distribution of psychological symptoms, it was determined that the highest scores belonged to the obsessive-compulsive symptom, interpersonal sensitivity and depression subcategories, respectively, and depression was the most common psychological symptom in female physicians and interpersonal sensitivity was the most common psychological symptom in male physicians. All psychological symptoms showed a negative significant relationship with the self-confident approach and optimistic approach and a positive significant relationship with the helpless approach. It was found that there were no significant differences between branches in terms of styles of coping with stress, professional satisfaction levels and distribution of psychological symptoms. Conclusion: Interventions that will reduce stress levels and increase professional satisfaction levels in assistant physicians (creating better working conditions, reducing intense workload, providing opportunities that will increase knowledge and experience and increase work motivation, etc.) are important in terms of physicians' mental and physical well-being and providing more qualified service to the society. In vitro fertilisation is a stressful process for women. Hypnofertility is a method that can be used to relieve stress during in vitro fertilisation. It is based on an effective and strong body-mind interaction, as well as balancing the brain and body via positive words and thoughts. This study aimed to investigate the effects of hypnofertility on fertility preparedness, stress, and coping with stress in women undergoing in vitro fertilisation. This study was conducted with a randomised controlled trial design. Hypnofertility-based relaxation, visualisation, imagination, and affirmation techniques were applied to the intervention group at four stages, and no initiative was applied to the women in the control group. The Clinical Trial Registration number of the study is NCT04755270. After the hypnofertility method, the mean score of the intervention group in the positive feelings and thoughts subscale of the Fertility Preparedness Scale was higher than that of the control group (p < 0.05). The hypnofertility method caused a significant decrease in the level of infertility stress in the intervention group, and the intervention group used the active-confronting and passive-avoidance methods more than control group did (p < 0.05). The hypnofertility method increased the levels of preparedness for fertility, reduced stress levels and provided effective strategies to cope with stress. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Hemodialysis is an important health problem that negatively affects psychosocial status and support systems. Through practices such as mandala coloring, individuals transfer the unknowns they experience to the outside and make them visible. This study was conducted to examine the effects of mandala coloring on fatigue, psychological well‐being, and factors associate with coping with stress in patients receiving hemodialysis treatment. Methods: The design was a prospective, parallel‐group controlled trial. The study was conducted in the dialysis unit of a university hospital in eastern Turkey between April 4 and October 31, 2022, with a total of 60 patients, 30 in the intervention group, and 30 in the control group. The patients in the intervention group colored mandala once a week for 2 h, for a total of 8 weeks. The data were collected face‐to‐face using a patient information form, a Fatigue Severity Scale, a Psychological Well‐Being Scale, and a Ways of Coping Questionnaire. Results: There were improvements in fatigue severity and psychological well‐being over the 8‐week study period in both the intervention and control groups. Scores were similar at baseline in the control and intervention groups, but better in the intervention groups compared to controls at 4 and 8 weeks for both metrics (p < 0001). Five factors from the Ways of Coping Questionnaire (self‐confident approach, optimistic approach, seeking social support, helpless approach, and submissive approach) each improved during the 8‐week period in the intervention group (p < 0.001). Three of these five factors improved in the control group as well. Scores for each of the five coping factors were better in the intervention group compared to controls at 4 and 8 weeks (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Mandala coloring improved fatigue and psychological well‐being and was associated with improved patient coping strategies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Police organizations worldwide have introduced various organizational and operational changes to cope with the demands placed on them by the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic as effectively as possible. The intensification in the use of digital communication channels is one of those adaptations that enabled the functioning of the police at the organizational level, but simultaneously were a source of stress for police officers. In addition, this adaptation of police communication channels could be complex in rural and suburban parts of Croatia due to relatively high proportions of the elderly population and unequal availability of internet connections. This article aims to determine how the use of digital communication channels and in-person police communication during the COVID-19 pandemic affected how the police coped with this crisis on an organizational and personal level in suburban and rural communities. Quantitative research using a voluntary and anonymous survey method was conducted on a convenient sample of 367 police officers from two police administrations in Croatia covering predominantly suburban and rural areas. The results of the Jonckheere-Terpstra trend test and the non-parametric (Spearman) correlation test showed that police officers who estimated that they worked more on community policing activities and problem-solving in direct contact with citizens estimated that they better coped with the COVID-19 pandemic on a personal level, while police officers who estimated that they used digital communication channels more perceived that they better coped with the COVID-19 pandemic on an organizational level.

This study was conducted with two groups (training and control) using a pretest/post-test design to determine the effect of cognitive behavioral approach-based psychoeducation on the levels of coping with hopelessness and stress of parents of children with cancer. The data were collected using the "Personal Information Form", "Coping with Stress Scale" and "Beck Hopelessness Scale." The training was given as a total of eight sessions of individual training every 2 weeks. The study showed that after the training, the training group scored significantly lower than the control group in the sub-dimensions of helpless and submissive approach in coping with stress and hopelessness levels and scored higher in the sub-dimensions of self-confident approach, optimistic approach, and seeking social support approach. It was found that cognitive-based psychoeducation had an effect on increasing the ways of coping with stress and decreasing the hopelessness levels of parents of children with cancer. - Abstract
The disruption of biological rhythm (sleep, eating patterns, hormonal secretions, activities, and social life etc.) in individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder makes it challenging to balance the mood of the patient and facilitates recurrence. Although social support, coping with stress, and medication adherence are known to affect prognosis, no study has been found to investigate the relationship between these factors and biological rhythm. This descriptive and correlational design study investigated the relationship between perceived social support, coping styles and medication adherence, and biological rhythm in individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder. This study was conducted with 111 patients receiving treatment in the outpatient clinics of the psychiatry department of two public hospitals in Ankara, Turkey. Biological Rhythm Interview of Assessment in Neuropsychiatry (BRIAN), Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), Coping Style Inventory (CSI), and Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS) were used for data collection. The biological rhythm total and subscales scores were significantly and negatively related to perceived social support total, and subscales scores (p < 0.005). The biological rhythm total and most of its subscales scores were significantly and negatively related to medication adherence (p < 0.005). The biological rhythm total and domain scores were significantly and negatively related to seeking social support, self-confident, and optimistic subscales of CSI while significantly and positively related to helpless and submissive (p < 0.005). In this study, a positive relationship was found between increased perceived social support, effective coping with stress, and adherence to medication. This study highlights that these factors may be helpful for the regulation of biological rhythm. • Today, it is known that biological rhythm of individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder might be disrupted. • Biological rhythm includes sleeping habit, social life, activities (such as job, housework), and chronotype of an individual. • Psychiatric nurses have a crucial role in regularity of the biological rhythm of individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder. • Medication adherence, coping styles and social support are crucial in regulating biological rhythm in bipolar disorder. • Psychiatric nurses may consider these factors in planning interventions for regulating biological rhythm in bipolar disorder. Pregnancy is one of the most complex periods in a woman's life, not only because of the biological changes involved but also because of the psychological aspects. Stress during pregnancy refers to the concerns and distress that arise during pregnancy and that can be assessed by means of psychological and physiological scales. The aim of this study was to analyse prenatal stress and to evaluate its consequences on the health of both the mother and the foetus. A descriptive longitudinal study was carried out on a sample of 398 pregnant women being followed up during their entire pregnancy, who gave birth at the Punta de Europa University Hospital in Algeciras (Spain) between September 2021 and August 2023. The Prenatal Distress Questionnaire (PDQ) was used, as well as serum cortisol levels in each trimester of pregnancy and birth experience using the Childbirth Experience Questionnaire in its validated Spanish version, CEQ-E. Demographic and obstetric variables were included. One of the main findings was that experiencing more stress in late pregnancy had a negative impact on obstetric outcomes. Women who had higher levels of prenatal distress had higher blood cortisol levels and increased risk of having a caesarean section at delivery. A significant negative correlation was also found between stress and Apgar test values in the first minute of life. It is concluded that interventions promoted by the health system that provide comprehensive prenatal care contribute to decreased stress as perceived by these pregnant women, thus reducing the risk of maternal and foetal morbidity. This study investigated the association of coping strategies burnout symptoms in 228 Under-20 Brazilian soccer players in a career transition phase and compared these variables with the occurrence of injuries and professionalization. The instruments used in the study were the Athlete Burnout Questionnaire and the Athletic Coping Strategies Inventory-28. Data analysis was conducted through generalized estimation equations, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression (p <.05). The results showed that coping was associated with physical and emotional exhaustion in both professional and nonprofessional players, and with a reduced sense of accomplishment only in young nonprofessional athletes who were in the career transition phase. It is concluded that young elite athletes who are in the transition phase of their career but have not signed a professional contract, use limited coping strategies and seem more exposed to stress (compared with those who have signed a contract), and are consequently more vulnerable to burnout symptoms. The purpose of this paper is to investigate stress-related experiences and coping solutions for public relations (PR) professionals, as relevant dimensions related to their well-being, creativity, and outcomes. The framework of the study is linked to the state of the PR profession, its role, and potential developments. It is based on qualitative research, using in-depth semi-structured interviews with seventeen senior professionals in PR from companies in Romania. The thematic analysis revealed, from a top-level professionals’ perspective, that Romanian PR activity is still a very fluid one and its role and value are not yet clearly integrated. This generates important levels of negative stress for PR professionals. Besides that, positive stress is associated to PR activity for enthusiastic PR professionals. The findings underline a series of seven stress factors and three categories of solutions for coping, involving the professionals but also academia, professional bodies, and, eventually, organizations. The authors of this study emphasize the importance of supporting the development of the profession as a premise for more positive working experiences of PR professionals. This can be achieved by precisely using PR tools, to establish a set of clear standards and increase PR literacy for non-PR people, both for the benefit of PR professionals and those who pay for their services. The lack of a coherent framework on the role of PR brings many challenges to the activity of PR professionals. The negative stress they perceive in daily activity is partially an extension of the fragmented and incomplete development of the PR profession, and the multivariate and disconnected pace regarding advances in theory and practice in the field. These must be considered and addressed equally within PR research, training and education, practice, and PR-dedicated associations.

This research explored the phenomenon of femaleness and how it impacts the experiences of women in higher education administration, specifically in colleges of agriculture, and how these experiences contributed to burnout, compassion fatigue, and job satisfaction. Despite representing more than half of the college-educated workforce, women are not represented equally within leadership positions in higher education. In academia, women faculty numbers have improved over the past several decades, representing 52.9% of assistant professor positions (Women in Academia: Quick Take, 2020). Higher education was initially intended only for men (Bystydzienski & Bird, 2006) and therefore valued men in higher-level positions (Bird, 2011; Trower, 2012). This has led to the creation of a culture where women and minorities are underrepresented and face multiple barriers (Bird, 2011). Having an inequitable distribution of power not only in organizations but within society suggests that women will need to traverse a different, more challenging path than their male counterparts to arrive at the same tier of status. - Abstract
This study was conducted with the aim of investigating differences between recreational and professional ath¬letes in perfectionism, distress, coping strategies, and changes in sports activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants in the study consisted of a sample of389 professional and recreational athletes. The results of the conducted analysis indicate the existence of certain differences between the two considered groups. On average, professional athletes score higher on the perfectionism scale than recreational athletes (t=-2,92, p<,01). Also, professional athletes were on average more likely to use relaxation techniques before (t=-8,30, p<,01) and during lockdown (t=-6,20, p<,01) compared to recreational athletes. Furthermore, professional athletes estimated that on average they missed training (t=-6,52, p<,01) and sports performances more (t=-11,30; p<,01) compared to recreational athletes. On average, professional athletes report a significantly larger reduction in training compared to recreational athletes (t=4,23, p<,01). Considering our results, we think it would be beneficial to focus on this topic in future studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This descriptive study was conducted to determine the stress-coping status of spouses and the difference between male and female attitudes during the pandemic period. We collected data with the Personal Information Form and the Scale for Coping with Family Stressors from 533 participants. The mean age of women and men was 36.04 ± 10.04 and 37.13 ± 11.56, respectively. A significant difference in verbalizing with others, work – family segmentation, cognitive restructuring, changing behaviors, emotional disclosure, exercise, and spending more time with family was found between women and men (p <.05). A significant difference was also observed in coping mechanisms with family stressors between women and men, and thus, gender affects their coping attitudes. During crises such as pandemics, the community should be aware of the availability of mental health professionals, and spouses should also use effective coping methods with family stress at regular intervals. Introduction. This paper addresses health issues of the modern young generation and introduces new experimental designs to examine the relationship between health and the most preferred coping strategies of young people, which can enable a broader study of the issue of health protection through the development of conscious and rational behaviors, including in stressful situations. The paper presents an analysis of the concept of health from the interdisciplinary perspective. The focus is on the necessity of considering a single sociopsychological aspect of health, including its somatic, social, and personal levels. Stress affects human health and stress resistance helps maintain mental and physical health. Methods. The experimental study aimed to identify the characteristics of coping behaviors of young men and women with different health levels. The study sample comprised male and female students of Bunin Yelets State University (N = 540, mean age of 20 ± 2.3 years). The study used (a) the questionnaire to identify the level of health and (b) the Ways of Coping Questionnaire by R. Lazarus modified by T. L. Kryukova, E. V. Kuftyak, and M. S. Zamyshlyaeva. The statistical analysis of the results was carried out using descriptive statistics (frequency analysis, analysis of ingroup mean values and standard deviations), Pearson’s chi-square test, and non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test. Results. The results of the study indicated that young men and women with different health levels use different coping forms. Young women with health problems use productive coping more often than young men. The higher the level of health of young men, the more likely they are to use productive coping. Discussion. The study shows that the negative experiences of young women associated with the symptoms of chronic diseases enabled female respondents to adapt better to stressful situations associated with health losses. At the same time, health losses as stress factors affect the level of constructiveness in choosing models of behavior for young men and women.

The article discusses self-regulatory resources that can be used when working with clients of a psychological support service. The present study sought to examine the characteristics of self-regulatory resources in clients of an online psychological support service (Tomsk State University). The sample was collected using online measures from the clients who at that moment were solving their problems or had already solved them. To analyze self-regulatory resources we diagnosed the style of self-regulation, coping behavior, tolerance for uncertainty, basic assumptions of an individual and studied text messages from the clients. The correlation and cluster analysis revealed numerous correlations of self- regulation and other resources. It allowed us to identify groups of clients with dominant typological relationships between the self-regulatory features, strategies for coping with stress, ambiguity tolerance, and primary assumptions. We discussed the results, taking into account the current level of self-regulatory activity and personal resources.

Family relationships during leisure time in adolescence have the potential to promote positive development, particularly in terms of autonomy. However, the scientific literature that links specifically positive family leisure to the development of adolescent autonomy is scarce, and lower when analyzing the role of frustration in leisure time. Grounded in Self-Determination Theory (SDT) this article examines the potential relationship between positive frustration in family leisure time and the promotion of adolescent autonomy. For that purpose, the manuscript addresses four objectives to be discussed consecutively: (1) to delimit the concept of adolescent autonomy and point out the difficulty of parental support; (2) to explore positive frustration, a concept aligned with Csikszentmihalyi's theory of flow, as a construct that can promote socioemotional development in adolescence; (3) to describe the components of family leisure; and (4) to understand how the experience of optimal frustration may be linked to the development of adolescent autonomy during family leisure time. From this central question, several additional inquiries emerge: the interplay of frustration and failure in adolescence, the importance of parents and adolescents spending quality time together, the enjoyment in structured family leisure time, the autonomy-supportive parenting in leisure time activities in relation to daily activities, the need to strengthen adolescent bonds developed in infancy, and the complexity of paternal and maternal autonomy granting. Examining the role of coping with stress strategies in shaping national narcissism, we proposed that this type of defensive national commitment (stemming from psychological shortcomings) should be lowered by adaptive coping strategies. In Study 1 (longitudinal, N = 603), we found that higher adaptive (i.e. self‐sufficient) coping attenuated national narcissism. In Study 2 (experimental, N = 337), the priming of adaptive coping significantly decreased national narcissism. We also demonstrated the indirect effects of the induced adaptive coping strategy on conspiracy beliefs via national narcissism. These findings suggest that using adaptive coping strategies (either dispositional or situationally induced) may attenuate national narcissism. We discuss the role of coping with stress in shaping group‐level phenomena. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Smartphones are omnipresent in the daily lives of parents and provide access to multiple resources in stressful situations. Thus, smartphones might be valuable coping tools. Previous research has mostly focused on the negative effects of parental phone use. In the present study, we investigated how mothers use smartphones for coping with stress and whether their phone use for coping is effective. We also explored factors on different levels (situation, person, device) which could influence phone use and coping effectiveness. Building on a one-week experience sampling study with over 200 mothers and multilevel models, we found that in stressful situations while being with children, mothers used their smartphones mostly for emotion-focused coping such as self-distraction and taking a break. Problem-focused coping was less prevalent. Mothers reporting increased cognitive phone salience used it more for coping with stress. Phone use for coping compared to no use related to lower stress decrease. No person-, situation-, or device-specific factors moderated the effects of phone use on coping effectiveness. Using positive phone content, however, was associated with increased perceived coping efficacy. Our results suggest that phone use is not generally successful for coping, but that momentary device-specific factors such as content characteristics might determine whether phones can be used for coping in an effective way. ANTISOCIAL personality disorders , *PSYCHOLOGICAL stress , *PSYCHOLOGICAL techniques , *STRESS management , *SELF-destructive behavior , *SUICIDAL ideation - Abstract
Aim: Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) is a personality disorder in which the person has difficulty controlling his behaviors and impulses, harming both himself and his environment. In our study, we aimed to examine the psychological pain experienced by people with ASPD and the methods of coping with the stress they use to combat it. Material and Method: Forty patients and 40 healthy control groups were included in the study. Sociodemographic Data Form, Beck Depression Scale (BDI), Beck Suicide Scale (BSS), Psychache Scale (PS), and Styles of Coping with Stress (SCSS) were administered to the participants. Results: The BDI (p=0.037), BSS (p=0.009), PS (p=0.008) and SCSS-helpless approach (p=0.01) scores of the patients in the patient group were significantly higher than the scores of the control group. On the other hand, the scores of SCSS-self-confident approach (p=0.001) and SCSS-searching for social support (p<0.001) were found to be significantly lower than the scores of the control group. In the patient group, there was a positive correlation between BDI and BSS, PS and SCSS-optimistic approach. On the other hand, there was a significant negative correlation between BDI and SCSS-self-confident approach and SCSS-seeking social support Conclusion: In our study, depression, suicide, and psychological pain were found to be significantly higher in people with ASPD compared to the control group, and it was determined that they used ineffective coping strategies. We think that early interventions for the treatment of psychological pain, such as suicidal ideation, determination of depression, and providing support for using effective coping strategies, may be effective in preventing self-destructive behaviors or suicides in ASPD, and therefore may change the course of the disease. Almost one-third of all malignant melanoma patients exhibit emotional stress indicating the need for professional care. Considering this, patients’ psychological needs are routinely overlooked and unfulfilled, even though there is substantial evidence that psychological therapies may enhance psychosocial outcomes for melanoma patients, such as low mood, sadness, and anxiety. Among developing countries and some health systems in developed regions, the lack of awareness and screening methods for skin cancer creates a high risk of psychological issues associated with more advanced diseases. Therefore, the current study aimed to investigate and compare the impact of malignant melanoma awareness for screening, prevention, and treatment on the patient’s quality of life and coping with stress and depression, based on patients’ age. This cross-sectional study recruited 238 patients with malignant melanoma distributed into two groups, Group A patients between 18 and 65 years and Group B patients older than 65. There were no significant gender differences and cancer staging differences between groups, although self-reported depressed mood and anhedonia were significantly more frequent in younger adults with malignant melanoma (43.8% vs. 28.9%). From the unstandardized surveys, it was observed that significantly fewer patients from Group B knew that melanoma could be caused by sun exposure (34.2% vs. 52.2%), and they were less likely to use sunscreen or visit a doctor to evaluate their skin moles (25.9% vs. 14.5%). Elderly patients preferred television as the main source of information, and only 68.4% of patients from Group B were using smart devices. There was a significantly higher physical score on the SF-12 scale among Group A patients, although patients from Group B scored higher in the mental health assessment, and the perceived helplessness on the PSS-10 scale was significantly higher compared to younger adults with melanoma (2.97 vs. 2.71, p-value = 0.036). Lower scores on the physical and mental SF-12 questionnaire determined a higher presence of depressive symptoms (rho = −0.352, respectively rho = −0.273). Higher scores on the DLQI sexual difficulties and treatment difficulties also correlated significantly with the presence of depressive symptoms and anhedonia (rho = 0.341, respectively rho = 0.264). Awareness campaigns for malignant melanoma should focus on the elderly population, too, using the television as the main communication channel. On the other hand, the more informed and knowledgeable group of adults younger than 65 are more likely to experience psychological problems and should be targeted for psycho-oncological aid.

- Abstract
During the COVID-19 pandemic, higher education institutions worldwide transitioned to remote learning. These transitions continue to create difficulties and dilemmas for students and instructors. The challenges surrounding the remote teaching of helping professions, such as social work, have been particularly pronounced and have impacted the student learning experience. This study aimed to examine the emotional and cognitive experiences of 150 Israeli social work students who transitioned to remote learning during the spread of COVID-19. Students’ emotional adjustment to remote learning was assessed using the Kübler-Ross five emotional stages of grief. The findings highlight students’ mixed emotions. Despite more than half of respondents stating that remote learning negatively impacted teaching quality and made it difficult to achieve the same level of intimacy as in-person practice classes, most participants recognized the advantages of remote learning and were open to it in the future. The current study looks at emergency remote learning as a new phenomenon influencing the future of social work teaching policies, creates a foundation for understanding the complexity of remote learning in the social work profession, and offers opportunities to learn from experience and engage in further research. - Abstract
Introduction: Conscious parenting and a modern family model have been constantly developing over the years. Modern men's approach to parenting has also changed. Aim of the study: To examine why men participate in antenatal classes, how they perceive these classes, and whether participation and perception are influenced by the duration of marriage, men's age, education, and place of residence. Material and methods: The study included two groups of 200 men who would become fathers the following year and attended a birthing school(group I) and those who would become fathers the following year and did not attend a birthing school(group II). The researchers used a diagnostic survey method based on a self-authorship survey consisting of a general part, a Questionnaire for Empathic Understanding of Other People(KRE), and a Coping Inventory for Stress Situations(CISS) Results: Only 138(34.5%) of the surveyed men from both groups participated in the previous childbirth of their wives or partners. Previously, 118(29.5%) of the surveyed men from both groups participated in antenatal classes. Most study subjects learned about a birthing school from their wives: 248(58.8%). The level of empathy in both groups was also assessed. The study subjects attending a birthing school most often presented a high level of empathy(92.5%), while those who did not participate had a low level(61.5%). The analysis of a stress-coping style showed significant differences only in task-oriented coping: it was used to the greatest extent by the men who attended a birthing school. The men in group II most often evaluated their knowledge of pregnancy and childbirth as low: 101(50.5%). The men from group II paid more attention to knowledge gained from TV than those from group I(37.5% vs. 34.5%). The majority of the subjects attending a birthing school(97.8%) would recommend other fathers to participate in antenatal classes Conclusions: Most often, when the men decided to participate in antenatal classes, they desired to prepare for the care of a baby, acquire knowledge of medical issues, and develop the ability to support their wives/partners. Participation in antenatal classes was more often declared by those who had been in a relationship for up to one year or more than two years, did not have children, and had a university degree. The study subjects attending a birthing school, compared to those not attending it, more often presented a high level of empathy and a taskoriented coping with stress. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
