To guarantee equal opportunities and treatment in employment for individuals with disabilities, Congress enacted Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1992. This law states, "No covered entity shall discriminate against a qualified individual on the basis of disability in regard to job application procedures, the hiring, advancement, or discharge of employees, employee compensation, job training, and other terms, conditions, and privileges of employment" (Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990). However, disability advocates expressed concern that Americans with disabilities appeared to be less protected in the workplace than was expected under Title I of the ADA. This raised concerns in Congress that the original intent of the ADA was not being upheld. To restore the intended purposes and protections of the ADA, Congress proposed the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) which was designed to have less emphasis on the evaluation of whether an individual was qualified for coverage and more emphasis on whether or not an employer had unlawfully discriminated against that individual (Vierling, 2009). The purpose of this study was to identify where to focus resources regarding specific aspects of employment based on perceived discrimination and outcome resolutions from individuals with visual impairments. The following research questions guided this study: (1) Are there differences between discrimination charges filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) before and after the enactment of the ADAAA regarding a visual impairment? and (2) Are there differences between outcome resolutions before and after the enactment of the ADAAA regarding a visual impairment?

This study examined the impact of personalized versus generalized education about environmental fall prevention recommendations on older adults' adherence with recommendations. Secondary aims focused on the impact of recent falls and perceived susceptibility of future falls on adherence with recommendations. Twenty-four community-dwelling older adults aged 65 to 89 years were randomized into two groups to receive either personalized or generalized education intervention on environmental fall prevention recommendations. A significant difference was found in the mean total percentage of adherence with recommendations of those receiving personalized education (69%) compared with those receiving generalized education (37%). No statistically significant relationship was found between sustaining recent falls, nor perceived susceptibility to future falls, and their extent of adherence with environmental fall prevention recommendations. The Centennial Vision makes it clear that the profession of occupational therapy is facing challenges that require members to move beyond clinical excellence toward larger health care initiatives (American Occupational Therapy Association, 2007). Accomplishing this goal requires the development of professionals with leadership skills. The focus of the doctorate in occupational therapy at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) hits this mark. In this paper, we describe the development process of a postprofessional occupational therapy doctorate focused on building leaders. To exemplify putting the Centennial Vision in action through education, we describe courses and content, and offer examples of the capstone leadership project and data describing students' experiences with becoming leaders. Nine African-American older adults participated in this qualitative research study to examine decision making and problem- solving related to current and potential mobility device use. Focus group and individual narrative interviews were conducted. Results indicated that older adults use their own past experiences, observation of others using or considering use of mobility devices, and rules as heuristics for making decisions about device use. The desire to maintain control of one's physical and social environments guided decisions about using mobility devices. Participants in the study sought ways to manage decreasing capacities for mobility that preserved self-image while altering the environment as little as possible. Therefore, mobility device use was considered a last alternative because it represented a more permanent and drastic environmental alteration than these community-dwelling older adults were prepared to accept.
