This dissertation aims to explain the transition from a reference design to a complete solution of a battery management system as well as its validation method. Henceforth, it includes sections for the explanation of requirement definition, hardware design, software support and validation methods. Prior to going into the core of the thesis, an initial explanation of what a battery management system is along with different architectures of it is presented. Afterwards, to understand the purpose of this project, a presentation of the company, within which this assessment has been developed, and its history is provided. Following, a thoughtful explanation of the latest battery management reference design along with an explanation of other competitors designs help to better understand the designed battery management complete solution. Within this part of the dissertation the reader will find an explanation of all the hardware design along with several pictures of the schematics and layout for both the reference design and the complete solution. All hardware and software devices must be tested. Throughout the years, more sophisticated methods have been developed. In the latest sections of this thesis, it is found how new validation methods using a hardware-in-the-loop system improves the complete solution reliability as well as a comparison between traditional methods and this new one, Esta memoria pretende explicar la transición de un diseño de referencia a una solución completa de un sistema de gestión de baterías, así como su método de validación. Por tanto, incluye secciones que explican la definición de requerimientos, el diseño hardware, el software de soporte y los métodos de validación. Antes de entrar en la parte principal de la tesis, se realiza una explicación inicial de lo que es un sistema de gestión de baterías y de sus posibles arquitecturas. Después, para poder entender correctamente este proyecto, se realiza una presentación de la empresa dentro de la cual se ha desarrollado la tesis, así como de su historia. Seguidamente, una explicación extensa del último diseño de referencia realizado y de las soluciones completas de la competencia se presenta con el fin de entender mejor el diseño de la solución completa realizado. En esta parte de la memoria el lector podrá encontrar una explicación extensa del diseño hardware tanto del diseño de referencia como de la solución completa. Todos los equipos que incluyen hardware y software deben testearse. A lo largo de los años, cada vez más métodos de validación sofisticados se han ido desarrollando. En la últimas secciones de esta memoria se encuentra la explicación de como los nuevos métodos de validación, utilizando sistemas hardware-in-the-loop, mejoran la fiabilidad de las soluciones finales. También se incluye una comparación de este nuevo método con el método tradicional, Aquesta memòria pretén explicar la transició d'un disseny de referència a una solució completa d'un sistema de gestió de bateries, així com el seu mètode de validació. Per tant, inclou seccions que expliquen la definició de requeriments, el disseny hardware, el software de suport i els mètodes de validació. Abans d'entrar en la part principal de la tesi, es realitza una explicació inicial del que és un sistema de gestió de bateries i de les seves possibles arquitectures. Després, per a poder entendre correctament aquest projecte, es realitza una presentació de l'empresa dins de la qual s'ha desenvolupat la tesi, així com de la seva història. Seguidament, una explicació extensa de l'últim disseny de referència realitzat i de les solucions completes de la competència es presenta amb la finalitat d'entendre millor el disseny de la solució completa realitzat. En aquesta part de la memòria el lector podrà trobar una explicació extensa del disseny maquinari tant del disseny de referència com de la solució completa. Tots els equips que inclouen hardware i software han de testar-se. Al llarg dels anys, cada vegada més mètodes de validació sofisticats s'han anat desenvolupant. En les últimes seccions d'aquesta memòria es troba l'explicació de com els nous mètodes de validació, utilitzant sistemes hardware-in-the-loop, milloren la fiabilitat de les solucions finals. This dissertation is related to the design of the hardware and software of the new ETSEIB MotorSport Dashboard. Throughout this document it can be found how the Dashboard was made from scratch, how it works and how important it is in a Formula Student car. The Dashboard assembly is made up of two displays, seven buttons, one encoder and three LEDs. All these items are designed to interact with the driver and the racing engineers in order to make easier the way the information is displayed. At the very beginning, it is explained what the Formula Student is. Afterwards, it is described the objectives as well as a brief description of TFT technology, which is the technology of the used displays. A study of all Dashboards in the team has been made later in order to learn and analyse why a renovation was needed. Further down, it is widely explained the hardware design that was developed to fulfil the needed requirements. Just after that, an explanation about the software which was specially designed to perform all the needed tasks is included. This design has been made using specific software techniques, which are also explained in this document, such as FreeRTOS and Interrupts. Additionally, the code generated, the schematics and the gerbers are included in annexes to help to understand the entire project. It is recommended to check the code while reading this dissertation to know what each function does. Moreover, the schematics and the gerbers are extra information to analyse the hardware more deeply.
