A systematic review was conducted searching for PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL, PsycInfo, and Web of Science databases. Randomized controlled trials published up to December 2023 in peer-reviewed journals were included. Methodological quality was assessed by the Quality Assessment of Controlled Intervention Studies tool. A total of 216 articles were identified and 15 constituted the final sample. The type of CAM most used was traditional Chinese medicine (60%), and the most common instrument used was the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (60%). Our review was grouped into four themes based on the origin of the therapies: 1) Traditional Chinese Medicine; 2) Japanese natural harmonization (eg, Reiki); 3) Ayurvedic Medicine; and 4) Other non-drug therapies. Our systematic review showed that there is a wide range of CAMs used to treat FM. Most of the clinical trials have shown significant results for the effectiveness of these interventions in both physical and mental health outcomes of FM as compared to control groups. However, the heterogeneity of the interventions and outcomes warrants further studies on this topic.Keywords: complementary therapies, fibromyalgia treatment, nonpharmacological interventions, traditional medicine

Contrasting the extensive research on summer atmospheric rivers (ARs) in the Antarctic Peninsula (AP), winter AR impacts are less understood. This study examines a unique warming event from 1 to 3 July 2023, using in situ winter observations and ERA5 reanalysis. On 2 July, Frei station experienced an extreme warm event with a temperature of 2.7°C and a significant rise in the freezing level, coinciding with winter rainfall. A pressure dipole pattern over the AP, with contrasting circulations over Bellingshausen and Weddell Seas, facilitated an AR, carrying warm, humid air initially from South America/Atlantic and then the southeast Pacific. This shift resulted in anomalous water stable isotope composition in precipitation. Trends suggest a strengthening winter pressure dipole, associated with increased AR frequency and higher temperatures in northern AP. These findings highlight the importance of winter observations in exploring AR impacts, bridging knowledge gaps about winter AR behaviors. Plain Language Summary: The Antarctic Peninsula is increasingly witnessing climate extremes during summer, while the understanding of such extremes in winter remains limited. Our study explores a significant warming event in the northern Peninsula in early July 2023, utilizing recent winter in situ observations and atmospheric analysis. On 2 July, an exceptional temperature of 2.7°C was recorded, significantly altering the atmospheric freezing level and causing rainfall instead of snow. Our analysis revealed a unique atmospheric pattern around the Peninsula, characterized by varying air movements over the Bellingshausen and Weddell Seas. This pattern facilitated an "atmospheric river," a flow of warm and moist air from lower latitudes, including continental South America/Atlantic and the southeast Pacific, as reflected in the precipitation's water stable isotope composition. This event is indicative of a potential trend toward more frequent and severe occurrences, emphasizing the urgent need for comprehensive winter research in the Antarctic Peninsula to understand the broader implications of extreme weather events and climate change. La reciente emergencia de síndrome de distrés respiratorio agudo producido por coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), enfermedad denominada COVID-19 ha traído la atención mundial a la búsqueda de conocimiento sobre este virus y su patogenia. La respuesta inmune es esencial para controlar y erradicar la infección, sin embargo, las respuestas inmunes descontroladas pueden resultar en la fisiopatología de la enfermedad grave. Lograr una comprensión más profunda de la interacción entre SARS-COV-2 y el sistema inmune de los huéspedes podría ayudar a anticiparnos al desarrollo de una inflamación pulmonar persistente causada por el SARS-CoV-2, y por qué no, ser la puerta de entrada al éxito terapéutico e intentar salvar mayor número de vidas. En esta revisión, proporcionamos una actualización sobre la virología y nuestra visión de la patogenia, entendiéndola desde las fases o etapas de la infección, sin olvidar el estallido de citoquinas resultantes de la interacción del virus con los receptores ACE2 ampliamente distribuidos en el organismo.

El artículo desarrolla una presentación, a nivel teórico, de una variante del ejercicio práctico de la enseñanza de la filosofía desde una perspectiva de la educación para una ciudadanía global (UNESCO 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016) en tiempos actuales (i.e. educación para la paz y derechos humanos). En el prólogo, la tesis es que la filosofía es un bien público porque su enseñanza potencia el desarrollo estético (social y político), epistemológico (pensamiento ordenado, lógico y consistente) y ético-práctico (democracia, convivencia y civismo) en el alumnado (UNESCO 1972, 2004). En la segunda parte se registra la filosofía como una disciplina que logra proporcionar al individuo una concientización relacional de su dimensión, impacto y situación en el mundo, así como la capacidad de resolver problemas teóricos a nivel práctico y prácticos a nivel teórico, y de dirigir, esforzar y analizar comportamientos y voluntades individuales y colectivas mediante procesos de argumentación y estudio de conocimientos válidos. Se concluye en la tercera parte que, a pesar de la existente situación de crisis, de decaimiento mundial y del poco aprecio por la enseñanza de la filosofía, la disciplina es pertinente para la promoción y ejercicio de prácticas sociales razonables (ciudadanía global), las capacidades cognitivas y conductuales. Las prácticas para la convivencia, el bienestar social y ambiental y la democracia son potenciadas por la filosofía, que desarrolla las capacidades y valores necesarios en cada estudiante para la sustentabilidad de gobernanza (democracia) y el civismo mundial (ciudadanía).

Aims: This is a rapid review examining the available evidence about the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic on the refugee population. Methods: A search in the databases such as PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Web of Science was conducted and all relevant original articles, letters, and editorial and policy papers were included. Results: From 208 publications matching the search criteria, 36 were included. These publications were categorized into three distinct domains: Public Health, Policies and Financing, and Technology. Our findings revealed that the situation of the refugee population has worsened during the pandemic. Difficulty accessing healthcare, violation of human rights, lack of access to technology devices, unfavorable government policies, and economic crisis were the most important aspects impacted by COVID-19. Conclusion: Governments, health managers, health professionals, and policy makers should be aware of refugees' problems during the pandemic to provide immediate solutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Coastal management is an integrated form of decision-making that considers a wide variety of social uses and economic activities on the maremtory. The ecosystems of coastal areas may be classified into three groups: sandy, rocky, and flooded. The Coastal Scenery Evaluation System (CSES) measures the beauty of a defined coastal area based on an assessment of 18 natural and 8 human parameters, which are integrated in a fuzzy logic model to obtain an overall value that represents the level of scenic appeal which then falls into one of five rank-ordered classes. During the summer of 2023, 149 beaches in the province of Nova Scotia, Canada, were assessed using the CSES technique. Sampling occurred over 25 days and involved 6997 kilometers of field trips. The results reveal a coastline dominated by rural (51%; n=76) and village beaches (24%; n=36), with very few urban (1%; n=2) and resort (1%; n=2) beaches. Almost half of the beaches were located within recreational (40%; n=60) and natural (5%; n=7) parks. Access to some beaches in Canada is challenging because they border private lands (beginning above the high-water mark) where the owners can restrict access to the shoreline. In terms of coastal scenery values, almost one-third of beaches were categorized as "high natural" and "natural" (11% Class I and 19% Class II, respectively), 42% were categorized as light and intensive development beaches (32% Class IV and 11% Class V, respectively), and 28% were categorized as medium landscape value (Class III). Based on these results, an additional classification was conducted to identify those beaches that require an ecosystem management approach, those with recreational management requirements, and those with tourism potential. Special attention was devoted to Class III beaches, as they have equal possibilities to be either better preserved and be upgraded to Class II, or to be further developed and be downgraded to Class IV. The research demonstrates the utility of the CSES technique, not only to classify beaches based on their beauty, but also as a coastal management tool to provide insightful information that improves the decision-making process in multiple coastal areas.
