Fungal propagule persistence on avocado bolts (small logs) under fruit tree canopies in Florida, USA was assessed for three entomopathogenic fungus-based biopesticides containing Cordyceps javanica, Metarhizium brunneum, or Beauveria bassiana. Bolts were sprayed with a biopesticide or water control to the point of runoff. After drying, four bolts, one from each treatment, were hung randomly under each of three fruit tree canopies in a randomized block design. Bark plug samples were removed from the bolts at 1, 7, 14, and 21 days after treatment (DAT) to determine the persistence of each fungus. Mean numbers of colony-forming units (CFUs) observed in vitro per product were compared. From 1 to 21 DAT, the mean number of CFUs per plate decreased from 100 to 7 for B. bassiana and from 25 to 6 for M. brunneum. However, CFUs of C. javanica increased slightly from 4 to 8. The total mean number of CFUs at 21 days from highest to lowest was B. bassiana > M. brunneum > C. javanica. At 21 DAT, CFUs of C. javanica were observed in plates for the B. bassiana and control treatments, suggesting that C. javanica blastospores may have germinated on the bark and then formed aerial conidia that dispersed to other bolts. Each fungus on the avocado bark was photographed by using scanning electron microscopy. This study demonstrated that EPF-based biopesticides persist for at least 2 weeks on avocado bark in tree canopy shade and are potential biological control agents against ambrosia beetles that attack avocado trees. Introduction: The fungus Cordyceps cicadae is both edible and medicinal. Methods: To acquire a thorough comprehension of its distribution in China, two host insects, Macrosemia pieli and Platypleura kaempferi , were selected as biological factors potentially associated with its distribution, the ENMTools program was utilized to ascertain the principal environmental factors affecting the distribution of potentially suitable habitats. The possible geographic distributions in the present as well as in the 2030s, 2050s, and 2070s were then predicted using the optimized MaxEnt model. Results: The primary environmental variables were soil pH, mean diurnal range, annual precipitation, precipitation seasonality, annual mean temperature and precipitation of the driest month. C. cicadae thrived on steep slopes. and some of which also significantly affect the distribution of its two hosts. Most of the suitable habitats of C. cicadae and M. pieli were currently found in the subtropical monsoon zone. The SSP126, SSP370, and SSP585 scenarios were associated with positive, stable, and unfavorable impacts on the extent of suitable habitats for C. cicadae , respectively, and the suitability of P. kaempferi decreased under three different conditions. The expansion of the C. cicadae was observed in provinces bordering the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, as well as in Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province, and northern Yunnan Province. Conversely, its habitat contraction was mainly found in western Guangdong, southern Guangxi, northern Hainan, southwestern Yunnan, and areas bordering eastern Sichuan. The shared contraction regions with its two hosts were primarily located in western Guangdong, southern Guangxi, and southern Sichuan. Moreover, the future centroids were found at higher elevations than the present ones in the provinces of Jiangxi and Hunan. Soluble β-glucan from mushroom source had good biological activity, in order to develop and utilize β-glucan (CMBG) in Cordyceps chrysanthemi, this study used Cordyceps chrysanthemi substrate as raw material, and was purified by proteolytic enzyme digestion, adsorption of macroporous resin, and chromatography of DEAE ion-exchange columns, and the decolorization rate and β-glucan retention rate were weighted and scored to feel out the establishment of the optimal purification process conditions. The obtained β-glucan was structurally analyzed and its in vitro hypoglycemic activity was investigated. The results showed that the macroporous resin HPD-750 had the best adsorption effect, and the optimal conditions for adsorption were as follows: up-sample flow rate of 5 mL/min, up-sample concentration of 4 mg/mL, up- sample volume of 400 mL, and mass of the resin of 40 g. Two β-glucan fractions, CMBG-1 and CMBG-2, with relative molecular weights of 13.57 x 104 Da and 14.36 x 104 Da, respectively, were isolated using a DEAE-FF cellulose exchange column. Both consisted of three monosaccharides, Gal, Glc, and Man, with molar ratios of 1.28:5.27:1.01 and 0.71:4.43:0.80, respectively. The Congo red analysis showed that CMBG-1 had a triple-helix structure, while CMBG-2 had no triple-helix structure, and the inhibition rates of both of them on α-amylase and α-glucosidase were positively correlated with the concentrations of the samples, and the IC50 of their inhibition on α-amylase were 2.68 and 4.32 mg/mL, and those on α-glucosidase were 2.37 and 3.01 mg/mL, respectively. The hypoglycemic activity of CMBG-1, which possessed a triple-helix structure, was significantly higher than that of CMBG-2, which did not possess a triple-helix structure, and it had good prospects for the development of functional foods. The lethal and sub-lethal doses of several novel insecticides, spirotetramat 15.31 OD, flupyradifurone 17.09 SL, and the entomopathogenic fungus Cordyceps fumosorosea strain ICAR-NBAIR Pfu-5, were evaluated on the parasitoid Encarsia guadeloupae and predator Apertochrysa astur. C. fumosorosea at 5 ml/L; spirotetramat 15.31 OD at 1.20 ml/L; C. fumosorosea at 2.5 ml/L + spirotetramat 15.31 OD at 1.20 ml/L were determined to be safer for immature stages and adults of E. guadeloupae and were classified as class I insecticide (harmless). C. fumosorosea at 2.5 ml/L + flupyradifurone 17.09 SL at 1.25 ml/L and flupyradifurone 17.09 SL at 2.5 ml/L were found to be slightly harmful (Class II insecticide) to adult stages of E. guadeloupae. C. fumosorosea at 5 ml/L; spirotetramat 15.31 OD at 1.20 ml/L; C. fumosorosea at 2.5 ml/L + spirotetramat 15.31 OD at 1.20 ml/L and C. fumosorosea at 2.5 ml/L + flupyradifurone 17.09 SL at 1.25 ml/L demonstrated minimal effect on larvae and adults of A. astur and were classified as class I insecticide. In contrast, with the exception of C. fumosorosea at 5 ml/L, all other test insecticides, either individually or in combination, were found to be unsafe for A. astur eggs. Imidacloprid 17.8 SL exhibited slightly harmful effects on larval stages and moderately harmful effects on adult stages of these biocontrol agents and was classified as class II and III insecticide, respectively. Insects are considered important food resources for future diet due to diverse nutrients and pharmacological effects. Fermentation is an important strategy of food processing with various beneficial effects such as increasing nutrients, promoting bioavailability, and reducing anti-nutrients. Cordyceps is a mushroom that grows on insects and produces various active ingredients. Therefore, we investigated the effect of Cordyceps-fermentation of insects on the nutritional composition and functional benefits of the insects. Six edible insects: Bombyx mori, Protaetia brevitarsis, Caelifera, Gryllus bimaculatus, Tenebrio molitor, and Allomyrina dichotoma were fermented with Cordyceps militaris to produce mycelia and fruiting bodies. Analysis of nutritional components showed that protein content was increased whereas carbohydrate content was decreased by the fermentation with Cordyceps. In addition, the fermented insects showed anti-diabetic efficacy by the promotion of glucose absorption as evaluated using differentiated L6-GLUT4myc cells. Quantitation using HPLC analysis suggested that cordycepin was produced in both mycelium and fruiting bodies in Cordyceps-fermented edible insects with different amounts depending on insect type and cultivation conditions. High-altitude ecosystems are under growing human pressure as a result of unsustainable harvesting rates of the entomopathogenic fungus Opiocordyceps sinensis (hereafter cordyceps). Conservation strategies are required to ensure high-altitude ecosystem functioning and human well-being. Such conservation efforts often require quick decisions on complex issues. Typically, the challenges involve stakeholders with opposing opinions and interests, resulting in disagreement, controversy, and political conflict. However, it is unclear what effects the unsustainable harvesting of cordyceps has on how ecosystems function. There is a growing gap between the pressure on high-altitude ecosystems and our understanding of those ecosystems. How can we close this rising knowledge gap on how people and nature interact? One technique is to get quick comprehension of the many stakeholders' divergent points of view. We identified four distinct viewpoints of cordyceps harvesting and its ecological impacts using a Q methods survey of cordyceps harvesters in northern Nepal. The harvesters with community-centered viewpoints thought that local governments and local communities should work together to manage and harvest cordyceps and their habitat. Government management and regulation of the cordyceps harvest was the main viewpoint of Government-oriented harvesters. Proft-oriented harvesters prioritize profitability more than conservation and oppose the implementation and formulation of laws and regulations. Conservation-oriented harvesters thought that there was a link between cordyceps harvesting and the degradation of nature. Understanding these divergent viewpoints aids in developing improved conservation management policies to sustain ecological functioning and desired economic activity in high-altitude ecosystems. Due to the price and demand of Ophiocordyceps sinensis having increased dramatically, adulteration with other fungi is a common problem. Thus, a reliable method of authentic O. sinensis identification is essential. In the present work, a rapid DNA extraction and double-tailed recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) coupled with nucleic acid hybridization lateral flow strip (NAH-LFS) was developed to distinguish authentic O. sinensis ingredients from other fungi substitutes. In the presence of O. sinensis, the RPA amplicons with two ssDNA tails in the opposite ends, which could simultaneously bind with the SH-probes on gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and capture the probe on the test line, formed visible red bands. RPA combined with NAH-LFS can efficiently detect O. sinensis DNA down to 1.4 ng/μL; meanwhile, the specificity test validated no cross reaction with common adulterants, including Cordyceps gunnii, Cordyceps cicadae, Cordyceps militaris, yungui Cordyceps, and Ophiocordyceps nutans. The whole RPA-NAH-LFS could be completed within 16 min. The RPA-NAH-LFS results in detecting 20 commercial O. sinensis samples are consistent with PCR-AGE and RT-PCR, confirming the feasibility of the RPA-NAH-LFS method. In conclusion, these results are expected to facilitate the application of RPA-NAH-LFS in the authentication detection of O. sinensis materials, providing a convenient and efficient method for O. sinensis quality control. Featured Application: There is a potential for the application of a 900 MHz electromagnetic field to stimulate the growth of the mycelium and the pathogenicity of the entomopathogenic fungi B. bassiana, C. fumosorosea, and M. anisopliae. Background: The rapid development of mobile communication has caused an increase in electromagnetic field (EMF) emissions in the environment. However, there is a lack of research on the impact of EMFs on microorganisms. Thus, the aim of the study was the determine the effect of exposure to 900 and 1800 MHz electromagnetic fields on the entomopathogenic fungi (EPFs) Beauveria bassiana, Cordyceps fumosorosea, and Metarhizium anisopliae. Methods: The entomopathogenic fungi developed under exposure to an EMF for seven days. After the termination of exposure, the linear colony growth, sporulation, gemination, and pathogenicity of the EPFs were investigated. Results: The effect of EMFs on B. bassiana, C. fumosorosea, and M. anisopliae depended on the EMF frequency and the tested fungus species. Exposure to the 900 MHz frequency stimulated the growth of the mycelium and the pathogenicity of the entomopathogenic fungi, whereas the 1800 MHz electromagnetic field inhibited sporulation and spore germination. Conclusions: The exposure to the 900 MHz frequency stimulated the development of the mycelium of all tested species and the pathogenicity of C. fumosorosea. The sporulation and germ tube length of the entomopathogenic fungi were stimulated by the 900 MHz frequency. Ophiocordyceps sinensis , an entomopathogenic fungus, infects larvae from the Lepidoptera: Hepialidae family, forming the valuable Chinese cordyceps. Mycoviruses are widespread across major lineages of filamentous fungi, oomycetes, and yeasts and have the potential to influence fungal biology and ecology. This study aimed to detect mycovirus within O. sinensis by isolating double-stranded RNA from six stains for transcriptomic sequencing and analyzing publicly available transcriptome data from 13 O. sinensis representative samples. Our analysis revealed 13 mycoviruses, with nine reported for the first time in O. sinensis. These mycoviruses are distributed across five families— Partitiviridae , Mitoviridae , Narnaviridae , Botourmiaviridae , Deltaflexiviridae —and two unclassified lineages, Ormycovirus and Vivivirus. This study also revealed frequent coinfections within individual O. sinensis strains and dynamic shifts in viral composition during fungal development. Cordyceps militaris (CM), a well-known parasitic fungus that grows on the larvae of Lepidoptera, has a variety of pharmacological activities. However, little is known about its safe dosage for animals, including pigs. To explore its effect on intestinal health and evaluate its safe dosage, 30 weaned pigs were randomly allotted to five groups and fed with a basal diet supplemented with different doses of CM for 42 days. The results showed that CM supplementation at 100 mg/kg increased the average daily weight gain (ADG) and significantly decreased the ratio of feed intake to gain (F:G) in the weaned pigs (p < 0.05). However, CM supplementation at a higher dose (1000 to 4000 mg/kg) had no effect on growth performance. CM supplementation at 100 mg/kg also increased the digestibility of gross energy and increased the ratio of villus height to crypt depth (V/C) in the duodenum and ileum (p < 0.05). Moreover, CM supplementation at 100 mg/kg increased the activities of catalase (CAT) and total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), but decreased the concentration of malondialdehyde (MDA) in serum (p < 0.05). Importantly, histopathological studies of tissues (e.g., heart, liver, kidney, spleen, lungs, pancreas, thymus, mesenteric lymph nodes, stomach, and small intestine), organ indexes, major hematological parameters, and serum biochemical parameters were not affected upon CM supplementation. Fungal strains isolated in the Krasnoyarsk Territory from dead caterpillars of the Siberian silkworm Dendrolimus sibiricus Tschetverikov, found in the litter and crown of Abies sibirica Ledeb., were assigned to the species Cordyceps militaris (L.) Fr., based on morphological and genetic methods. The strains were highly active producers of such bioactive compounds as polysaccharides (PS), adenosine, and cordysinin B. Cordysinin B has not been previously reported in the species C. militaris. It was found that PS production was more influenced by the method of fungal cultivation than by the carbon substrate. The highest production of PS (6.0–6.7 g/L) and nucleosides (390 mg/L) by C. militaris 11-5 was observed during submerged cultivation on sucrose using abiopeptide. When studying the biosynthesis of PS during growth of the fungus, it was found that the synthesized PSs were consumed by the culture when the concentration of the carbon substrate in the medium decreased and apparently served as reserve sources of carbon. Medicinal mushroom extracts, i.e. their dried biomass, have long been known as sources of bioactive compounds with positive effects on the human health. The antioxidant, antigenotoxic, antiviral, and immunomodulatory properties of the commercially available extracts Agaricus blazei auct. non Murrill (AB), Cordyceps sinensis (Berk.) Sacc. (CS), and Immune Assist (IA) have already been documented. This study, studied the influence of these three mushrooms on the viability of cell lines MCF-7, MDA-MB-231, and HS-5. The cytotoxicity of AB, CS, and IA at different concentrations (25, 50, 100, 200, 400 and 800 μg/mL) was evaluated using the MTT assay. The results showed that AB was the most effective and induced cytotoxicity in both cancer cell lines, with IC50 values of 96.7 μg/mL for MCF-7 and 368.4 μg/mL for MDA-MB-231. After treatment with CS and IA, the half-maximal inhibitory concentration was reached only in MDA- MB-231 cells (IC50=613 μg/mL for CS and 343.3 μg/mL for IA). We have shown here that AB, CS and IA can suppress the growth of MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 cell lines, while affecting the survival of healthy HS-5 cells to a much lesser extent. Cordyceps cicadae (Hypocreales: Cordycipitaceae) is a renowned entomopathogenic fungus used as herbal medicine in China. However, wild C. cicadae resources have been threatened by heavy harvesting. We hypothesised that Bombyx mori L. (Lepidoptera: Bombycidae) could be a new alternative to cultivate C. cicadae due to the low cost of rearing. Bacterial communities are crucial for the formation of Cordyceps and for promoting the production of metabolites. To better understand the bacterial community structure associated with Cordyceps, three Claviciptaceae fungi were used to explore the pathogenicity of the silkworms. Here, fifth‐instar silkworms were infected with C. cicadae, Cordyceps cateniannulata (Hypocreales: Cordycipitaceae) and Beauveria bassiana (Hypocreales: Cordycipitaceae). Subsequently, we applied high‐throughput sequencing to explore the composition of bacterial communities in silkworms. Our results showed that all three fungi were highly pathogenic to silkworms, which suggests that silkworms have the potential to cultivate Cordyceps. After fungal infection, the diversity of bacterial communities in silkworms decreased significantly, and the abundance of Staphylococcus increased in mummified larvae, which may play a role in the death process when the host suffers infection by entomopathogenic fungi. Furthermore, there were high similarities in the bacterial community composition and function in the C. cicadae and C. cateniannulata infected samples, and the phylogenetic analysis suggested that these similarities may be related to the fungal phylogenetic relationship. Our findings reveal that infection with different entomopathogenic fungi affects the composition and function of bacterial communities in silkworms and that the bacterial species associated with Cordyceps are primarily host dependent, while fungal infection affects bacterial abundance. Comprehensive analysis of the lipid content in Cordyceps sinensis samples is essential for optimizing their effective use. Understanding the lipid profile can significantly enhance the application of this valuable fungus across various fields, including nutrition and medicine. However, to date, there is limited knowledge regarding the effects of different drying methods on the quality of lipids present in Cordyceps sinensis. In this study, we employed a broadly targeted lipidomic strategy to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the lipid composition in Cordyceps sinensis subjected to various drying methods. A comprehensive analysis identified a total of 765 distinct lipid species from fresh Cordyceps sinensis (FC), vacuum-freeze-dried Cordyceps sinensis (VG), oven-dried Cordyceps sinensis (OG), and air-dried Cordyceps sinensis (AG). Among these, glycerophospholipids (GP) were the most abundant, followed by glycerides (GL) and sphingolipids (SP). In this study, a total of 659 lipids demonstrated statistically significant differences, as indicated by a p-value (p) < 1. Among these lipids, triglycerides (TG) exhibited the highest concentration, followed by several others, including ceramide-ascorbic acid (Cer-AS), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC), and phosphatidylserine (PS). OG was the fastest drying method; however, PCA and OPLS-DA analyses indicated that the most significant changes in the lipids of Cordyceps sinensis were observed under the OG method. Specifically, 517 differentially accumulated lipids were significantly down-regulated, while only 10 lipids were significantly up-regulated. This disparity may be attributed to the degradation and oxidation of lipids. The metabolic pathways of glycerolipid, glycerophospholipid, and cholesterol are critical during the drying process of Cordyceps sinensis. Extracts from powders of geminated brown rice (Oryza sativa L.), Moringa oleifera, and Cordyceps militaris were combined in various ratios and their health-beneficial properties were investigated. All combined extracts exerted the synergistic effects on antioxidant activity as well as inhibitions against α-amylase and α-glucosidase. Extract formulas T4 (70% germinated brown jasmine rice, 20% M. oleifera dry leaves, and 10% C. militaris) and T2 (80% germinated brown jasmine rice, 10% M. oleifera dry leaves, and 10% C. militaris) elicited the significantly highest antioxidant activity and the significantly highest inhibition against α-glucosidase, respectively. Both formulas exhibited the significantly highest inhibition against α-amylase. As compared to each other, extract formulas T4 and T2 possessed the higher glucose consumption-promoting and antiinflammatory activities, respectively. Both formulas were not toxic to normal RAW-264.7 and SW-480 human colon cancer cells. Bioactive compounds with health-supporting properties were identified using UHPLC-QTOF-MS/MS. Species classified in Cordycipitaceae (Hypocreales) include multiple entomopathogenic fungi. Numerous changes have recently occurred in the nomenclature of cordycipitaceous fungi due to the single naming system proposed for pleomorphic fungi in 2011. Species of Cordycipitaceae are widely applied as herbal medicines, especially in Asian cultures. However, the diversity of Cordycipitaceae in Taiwan is based on relatively few literature records. Here we conducted a comprehensive survey of this family throughout the island of Taiwan and provided a glimpse of the diversity and distribution patterns. In addition, the present study reassesses the generic and species boundaries of Cordycipitaceae and finally provides an updated phylogenetic overview of Cordyceps and allied genera. Phylogenetic reconstructions using combined ITS, nrLSU, tef1-α, rpb1, and rpb2 sequence data, along with morphological features, resulted in 10 novel species: Akanthomyces taiwanicus sp. nov., Blackwellomyces taiwanensis sp. nov., Cordyceps hehuanensis sp. nov., C. locastrae sp. nov., C. malleiformis sp. nov., C. pseudorosea sp. nov., C. siangyangensis sp. nov., Samsoniella lasiocampidarum sp. nov., S. yuanzuiensis sp. nov., and Simplicillium salviniae sp. nov.; and nine new records for Taiwan: A. kanyawimiae, A. muscarius, S. cardinalis, S. hepiali, B. lii, B. medogensis, C. lepidopterorum, C. neopruinosa, and Si. chinense. Furthermore, we provided DNA sequence data of the ex-type strains of C. ninchukispora for the first time and determined the species limits of the taxon. In addition, the present study proposed to synonymize B. staphylinidicola and C. jakajanicola under B. bassiana and C. lepidopterorum, respectively. Moreover, three species, C. roseostromata, C. kyushuensis, and C. shuifuensis, that clustered within the species clade of C. militaris are proposed to be synonymized under the latter taxon. To maintain the monophyly of Cordyceps, we propose to classify Parahevansia koratensis in Cordyceps, which makes the genus Parahevansia obsolete. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In present study, the compatibility of a native entomopathogenic fungus (EPF), Cordyceps javanica strain (OM321438) with three different botanicals viz., neem oil, pongamia oil and jatropha oil and insecticides viz., clothianidin 50WDG, thiamethoxam 25WG and profenofos 50EC at three different concentrations viz. recommended dose, half of the recommended dose and more than the recommended dose and efficacy of the best compatible combinations were evaluated under laboratory conditions against tea mosquito bug, Helopeltis theivora which is one of the major mirid pests of tea. Among the tested botanicals and insecticides, neem and pongamia oil at half of the recommended dose, clothianidin 50WDG at all doses and thiamethoxam 25WG at half of the recommended (0.01%) and recommended dose (0.02%) were found to be compatible with C. javanica (1x107 conidia/ml). The highest mortality (100%) of H. theivora was recorded on combined treatment of C. javanica with thiamethoxam 25WG at half of the recommended dose after 72 HAT whereas 70% mortality was observed in the combination of C. javanica with neem oil at half the recommended dose after 120 HAT. Background Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a worldwide public health problem, stage 4 CKD is a critical stage during the course of CKD, marking the significant decline of kidney function and the obvious appearance of symptoms. Although fermented cordyceps sinensis powder has been used in the treatment of chronic kidney disease for a long time, its prognostic effect on CKD, especially the curative effect of stage 4 CKD, lacks evidence-based medical evidence. Objective To explore the long-term prognosis of stage 4 CKD patients treated with fermented cordyceps sinensis powder and the potential related factors affecting the prognosis. Methods A total of 631 patients diagnosed with stage 4 CKD in the nephrology Department of Longhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from 2013 to 2022 were collected. Based on standardized integrated Chinese and Western medicine treatment, patients were divided into cordyceps treatment group (339 cases) and integrated Chinese and Western medicine treatment group (252 cases) according to whether fermented cordyceps sinensis powder was used. Data such as patients' basic information, whether they were accompanied by diabetes, the occurrence and time of endpoint events, the time of diagnosis of stage 4 CKD, and relevant laboratory indicators at diagnosis were collected. After eliminating baseline differences between groups with propensity score matching, COX regression analysis was conducted to analyze potential prognostic factors. Survival curve was drawn by Kaplan-Meier method, and the difference of survival between groups was compared by Log-rank test. Results A total of 378 patients were included after matching at a ratio of 1:1. Gonoderma lucidum (G. lucidum) and Cordyceps militaris (C. militaris) are among the many mushrooms known for their long history of use in traditional medicine. Wildcrafted sources of mushrooms including G. lucidum and C. militaris can be limited from a scarcity and quality perspective, but solid fermentation processes in cultivation settings can provide an efficient way to deliver whole mushroom preparations of a consistent composition. Despite the historical use of these mushrooms, few published reports have explored their potential subchronic oral toxicity or genotoxicity, either from specific components or whole mushroom preparations. The purpose of this study was to assess the potential for acute toxicity, subchronic toxicity, and genotoxicity of powders produced from G. lucidum mycelial biomass and fruiting body ("Organic Reishi M2-102-02 powder") cultured on oats, and C. militaris mycelial biomass, stroma, and fruiting body ("Organic Cordyceps M2-116-04 powder") cultured on oats. Results of the testing demonstrate that both Organic Reishi M2-102-02 powder and Organic Cordyceps M2-116-04 powder were not acutely toxic, did not exhibit subchronic oral toxicity in rats at doses up to the highest dose tested of 2,000 mg/kg bw/day, and did not have genotoxic potential based on in vitro and in vivo genotoxicity assays. The study was carried out to investigate Cordyceps militaris spent mushroom substrate (CMSMS), a renewable biomass, for its effect on fish as an alternative source of in-feed antibiotics. For meticulous examination, four different iso-nitrogenous and iso-caloric diets were prepared containing CMSMS at 0%, 1%, 2%, and 3%. A total of 360 Labeo rohita fingerlings with an average initial weight and length of 12.6 ± 0.04g and 10 ± 0.1 cm, respectively, were blocked into 4 treatments with 3 replicates, i.e., T1 (control), T2 (10 g/kg), T3 (20 g/kg), and T4 (30 g/kg). The feeding trial was conducted for 60 days with samplings on the 7th, 15th, 30th, and 60th days, and blood samples were collected to determine different immunological (NBT, TIg, lysozyme, and antiprotease activity) and biochemical (glucose, total protein, SGPT) parameters. A challenge study was conducted against Aeromonas hydrophila at the end of the feeding trial. The results showed that CMSMS at 30g/kg showed a better immune response over time with increasing doses. All the biochemical readings fall within normal ranges. Fish fed with CMSMS at 30g/kg (3%) have better survival after being challenged with Aeromonas hydrophila. Therefore, Cordyceps militaris spent mushroom substrate (CMSMS) can be biosafely used as in-feed antibiotics in Labeo rohita and can reduce the concern of by-product disposal from mushroom cultivation. Cordyceps primarily consists of ascomycetes, a parasitic fungus that infects insects and arthropods. Recently, Cordyceps has been shown to manifest a diverse range of pharmacological activities, rendering it applicable for the treatment and mitigation of various diseases, such as diabetes, acute liver injury, and colitis. Many active constituents have been identified from Cordyceps sinensis, including cordycepin, adenosine, sterols, and polysaccharides. Polysaccharides constitute a primary active component of Cordyceps, exhibiting immunomodulatory effects. We searched the Web of Science database with the keywords of cordyceps, polysaccharide, and immune modulation; collected related studies from 2004 to 2024; and eliminated articles with low influence and workload. A review of the research advancements regarding the immunomodulatory effects of Cordyceps polysaccharides was conducted with the aim of furnishing valuable reference information. Research indicates that polysaccharides exhibiting immunomodulatory activity are predominantly sourced from Cordyceps sinensis and Cordyceps militaris. Immunological experimental results demonstrate that Cordyceps polysaccharides can augment the activities of macrophages, lymphocytes, and dendritic cells while fostering the expression of immune-active substances such as cytokines and chemokines. Furthermore, animal experiments have substantiated the immunomodulatory effects of Cordyceps polysaccharides. These effects encompass ameliorating immune suppression induced by drugs or radiation, enhancing immune organ indices, elevating the expression of immunoreactive substances, and mitigating immune evasion prompted by tumors. Cordyceps chanhua , an important cordycipitoid medical mushroom with wide use in Asia, has gained attention for its bioactive component beauvericin (BEA), which is of medicinal value as a drug lead, but also of food safety risk. Recent observations by our group revealed a significant decrease of BEA content in C. chanhua when exposed to light, but the underlying regulatory mechanisms remain elusive. In this study, a comprehensive approach combining metabolomics and transcriptomics was employed to investigate the effects of white light on the secondary metabolism of C. chanhua for elucidation of the influence of light on BEA biosynthesis in this fungus. The result showed that the genes and metabolites involved in the synthesis of D-hydroxyisovaleric acid, a precursor of BEA synthesis, were down-regulated under light exposure, while those associated with the synthesis of phenylalanine, another precursor of BEA synthesis, were up-regulated leading to elevated phenylalanine levels. It suggested that the suppressive effect of light on BEA synthesis in C. chanhua occurred primarily through the inhibition of D-hydroxyisovaleric acid synthesis, while the enhanced phenylalanine biosynthesis likely directed towards other metabolic pathway such as pigment synthesis. These results contributed to a better understanding on how light modulates the secondary metabolism of C. chanhua and provided valuable guidance for optimizing BEA production in cultivation practices. Allantus luctifer is one of the most serious pests of buckwheat, with its larvae mainly damaging leaves during the seedling and flowering stages. Entomogenous fungi play a crucial role as biological regulators of arthropod populations in nature. In this paper, a newly isolated strain 19GZAl-1, was identified as Cordyceps. cateniannulata through the observetions of macroscopic and microscopic morphological features, and the results of rDNA- ITS sequence alignment and phylogenetic analysis. By comparing the efficacy of ten entomopathogenic fungal strains, including six strains of C. cateniannulata and four other Cordyceps species, against A. luctifer larvae, the new strain 19GZAl-1 exhibited the highest mortality rate. Mortality rates of A. luctifer larvae treated by spraying with the strain 19GZAl-1 increased as larval stage decreased, with first instar larvae showing the highest mortality rate of 85%. The appressorium from conidia invaded the larval body through areas with thin cuticle, such as larva pod base and internode folds, after which the hyphae grew rapidly, filling the haemocoel, and finally protruding from the integument upon melanization and decomposition of the intestinal wall cells. The results suggest that the strain 19GZAL-1 of C. cateniannulata has potential against A. luctifer larvae, which is significant for further study on the infection mechanism of C. cateniannulata on insects. Aims The Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Say) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) is the most widespread insect pest that causes major economic losses, especially on potatoes. Due to heavy insecticide use, this species now resists most pesticides, posing a significant control challenge. Frequent pesticide application also harms non-target organisms, the environment, and human health. Hence, utilizing biocontrol agents like entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) offers a viable alternative for pest management. The aim of this study was to identify and characterize new EPF strains isolated from soil samples and evaluate their efficacy against adult L. decemlineata under laboratory conditions. Methods and results Soil samples were collected in potato fields or uncultivated areas adjacent to the field in the Czech Republic and the EPF strains were isolated using a modified Tenebrio bait method. A total of 20 fungal strains were isolated and identified using morphological and molecular markers based on the 28S rRNA, ITS, and elongation factor 1-alpha gene sequences as Beauveria bassiana (Bals.-Criv.) Vuill. Beauveria brongniartii (Sacc.) Petch, and Cordyceps fumosorosea (Wize) Kepler, B. Shrestha & Spatafora (Hypocreales: Cordycipitaceae), Purpureocillium lilacinum (Thom.) Luangsa-ard, Houbraken, Hywel-Jones & Samson (Hypocreales: Ophiocordycipitaceae), Metarhizium brunneum (Petch), and Metarhizium robertsii Bisch. Rehner & Humber (Hypocreales: Clavicipitaceae). The bioassays revealed high variability among virulence of these strains against L. decemlineata with the shortest median time to death (LT50 = 5 days) in M. robertsii strain MAN3b. Two new species, Chlorocillium sinense and Calcarisporium guizhouense, isolated from a spider and fruiting body of Cordyceps sp., are introduced. Morphological comparisons and phylogenetic analyses based on multigene datasets (ITS + LSU +RPB2+tef-1alpha) support the establishment of the new species. A combined dataset of ITS , LSU , RPB2, and tef-1alpha showed the taxonomic placement of Chlorocillium in Clavicipitaceae for the first time. Pseudometarhizium is regarded as a synonym of Chlorocillium and two Pseudometarhizium species are transferred into the latter based on the phylogenetic analysis and morphological characteristics. Simple Summary: Chinese cordyceps is a traditional medicinal fungus, Ophiocordyceps sinensis, and Paecilomyces hepiali are fungi isolated from wild Chinese cordyceps. These three species share similar chemical composition and pharmacological effects. This study utilized untargeted metabolomic technology (LC-MS/MS) to analyze metabolites in three samples. The antioxidant activity of the three species was evaluated using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging ability (DPPH•), ferric ion-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), hydroxyl free radical scavenging capacity (•OH), and superoxide anion radical scavenging capacity (O2•−) to understand the differences in antioxidant activities among them. This study aimed to understand the metabolite differences and antioxidant differences of Chinese cordyceps, P. hepiali, and O. sinensis, and to reveal the roles of the differential metabolites in the antioxidant protection mechanism. Chinese cordyceps (GL) is a traditional medicinal fungus, with Ophiocordyceps sinensis (O. sinensis, BL) and Paecilomyces hepiali (P. hepiali, JSB) being fungi isolated from wild Chinese cordyceps. These three species share similar chemical composition and pharmacological effects. Existing studies have primarily compared the metabolites of Chinese cordyceps and O. sinensis, overlooking the assessment of antioxidant capacity in Chinese cordyceps, P. hepiali, and O. sinensis. In this study, LC-MS/MS was employed to analyze metabolites in GL, JSB, and BL. Utilizing principal component analysis (PCA), supervised orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA), and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA), it was observed that the majority of differential metabolites (DMs) primarily accumulated in organic acids and derivatives, lipids and lipid-like molecules, and organoheterocyclic compounds. Antioxidant activity analysis indicated that GL exhibited the higher 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging ability (DPPH•, scavenging rate is 81.87 ± 0.97%), hydroxyl free radical scavenging capacity (•OH, scavenging rate is 98.10 ± 0.60%), and superoxide anion radical scavenging capacity (O2•−, scavenging rate is 69.74 ± 4.36%), while JSB demonstrated the higher FRAP total antioxidant capacity of 8.26 μmol Trolox/g (p < 0.05). Correlation analysis revealed a positive correlation between DMs (fatty acyls and amino acids) and DPPH•, FRAP, •OH, and O2•− (p < 0.05). Additionally, glycerophospholipid DMs were found to be positively correlated with FRAP (p < 0.05). Through KEGG pathway analysis, it was determined that the accumulation of DMs in pathways such as cutin, suberine and wax biosynthesis has a higher impact on influencing the antioxidant activity of the samples. These results shed light on the antioxidant capacity and metabolic characteristics of Chinese cordyceps and its substitutes and offer valuable insights into how different DMs impact the strength of antioxidant activity, aiding in the advancement and application of Chinese cordyceps and its substitutes. Rice yellow hairy caterpillar Psalis pennatula Fabricius (Lepidoptera: Lymantriidae) is an emerging pest of rice and an increased incidence is expected in different rice-growing areas of Assam in the coming years. The caterpillar is a voracious leaf feeder and can consume the whole leaves within a day. Keeping this in view, an attempt was made to evaluate the bio-efficacy of three important native isolates of entomopathogenic fungal strains viz. Beauveria bassiana (KR855715), Cordyceps javanica (OM321438) and Isaria fumosorosea (MH414514) against P. pennatula larvae under laboratory conditions during the Sali season of rice. All three EPF strains at different conidial dilutions (1x103, 1x105,1x107, 1x108 and1x109 conidia/ml) were found to be pathogenic to the 3rd instar larvae of P. pennatula. Among the tested fungal strains, the strain Isaria fumosorosea (MH414514) showed the highest mortality (100%) at 1x107 conidia/ml and Cordyceps javanica (OM321438) showed the lowest mortality (51%) at 1x107conidia/ml at 10th day of post-treatment. The tested fungal isolates could play a vital role as microbial biopesticides in suppressing the P. pennatula population in Assam and could be incorporated into IPM strategies. Cordyceps cicadae is recognized for its medicinal properties, attributed to bioactive constituents like polysaccharides and adenosine, which have been shown to improve kidney and liver functions and possess anti-tumor properties. Rho GTPase activating proteins (Rho GAPs) serve as inhibitory regulators of Rho GTPases in eukaryotic cells by accelerating the GTP hydrolysis of Rho GTPases, leading to their inactivation. In this study, we explored the function of the CcRga8 gene in C. cicadae, which encodes a Rho-type GTPase activating protein. Our study found that the knockout of CcRga8 resulted in a decrease in polysaccharide levels and an increase in adenosine concentration. Furthermore, the mutants exhibited altered spore yield and morphology, fruiting body development, decreased infectivity, reduced resistance to hyperosmotic stress, oxidative conditions, and cell wall inhibitors. Cordyceps militaris is considered to be of great medicinal potential due to its remarkable pharmacological effects, safety, and edible characteristics. With the completion of the genome sequence and the advancement of efficient gene-editing technologies, coupled with the identification of gene functions in Cordyceps militaris, this fungus is poised to emerge as an outstanding strain for medicinal engineering applications. This review focuses on the development and application of genomic editing techniques, including Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation (ATMT), PEG-mediated protoplast transformation (PMT), and CRISPR/Cas9. Through the application of these techniques, researchers can engineer the biosynthetic pathways of valuable secondary metabolites to boost yields; such metabolites include cordycepin, polysaccharides, and ergothioneine. Furthermore, by identifying and modifying genes that influence the growth, disease resistance, and tolerance to environmental stress in Cordyceps militaris, it is possible to stimulate growth, enhance desirable traits, and increase resilience to unfavorable conditions. Finally, the green sustainable industrial development of C. militaris using agricultural waste to produce high-value-added products and the future research directions of C. militaris were discussed. In this study, we identified a novel partitivirus, named "Cordyceps militaris partitivirus 1" (CmPV1), in Cordyceps militaris strain RCEF7506. The complete genome of CmPV1 comprises two segments, dsRNA1 and dsRNA2, each encoding a single protein. dsRNA1 (2,206 bp) encodes an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), and dsRNA2 (2,256 bp) encodes a coat protein (CP). Sequence analysis revealed that dsRNA1 has the highest similarity to that of Bipolaris maydis partitivirus 2 (BmPV2), whereas dsRNA2 shows the highest similarity to human blood-associated partitivirus (HuBPV). Phylogenetic analysis based on RdRp sequences suggests that CmPV1 is a new member of the genus Betapartitivirus of the family Partitiviridae. Here, we report on a Cordyceps species entering into a multi-trophic, multi-kingdom association. Cordyceps cateniannulata , isolated from the stem of wild Coffea arabica in Ethiopia, is shown to function as an endophyte, a mycoparasite and an entomopathogen. A detailed polyphasic taxonomic study, including a multilocus phylogenetic analysis, confirmed its identity. An emended description of C. cateniannulata is provided herein. Previously, this species was known as a pathogen of various insect hosts in both the Old and New World. The endophytic status of C. cateniannulata was confirmed by re-isolating it from inoculated coffee plants. Inoculation studies have further shown that C. cateniannulata is a mycoparasite of Hemileia vastatrix , as well as an entomopathogen of major coffee pests; infecting and killing Hypothenemus hampei and Leucoptera coffeella. This is the first record of C. cateniannulata from Africa, as well as an endophyte and a mycoparasite. Duponchelia fovealis is responsible for great losses in the strawberry production, and entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) are an alternative to control this larva. They can be used in combination with other natural compounds with insecticidal activity, such as plant extracts or essential oils (EOs). Thus, our objectives are to evaluate the effects of Baccharis dracunculifolia and Baccharis uncinella EOs on strawberry leaves and third instar larvae of D. fovealis, and to evaluate their in vitro compatibility with strains of Beauveria bassiana and Cordyceps javanica. EOs were not phytotoxic to strawberry leaves at 2% v/v. Larval mortality ranged between 48% and 83% at 1% and 2%, and B. dracunculifolia EO at 2% presented the higher mortality. EO of B. uncinella (BU) at 1% was compatible with two strains of B. bassiana and C. javanica. Therefore, the combined use of BU EO with EPF may be an alternative to control D. fovealis. The Clavicipitaceae family's largest and most diverse genus is Cordyceps. They are most abundant and diverse in humid temperate and tropical forests and have a wide distribution in: Europe, North America, and East and Southeast Asian countries, particularly: Bhutan, China, Japan, Nepal, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Tibet, and the Himalayan region of India, and Sikkim. It is a well-known parasitic fungus that feeds on insects and other arthropods belonging to 10 different orders. Over 200 bioactive metabolites, that include: nucleotides and nucleosides, polysaccharides, proteins, polypeptides, amino acids, sterols, and fatty acids, among others have been extracted from Cordyceps spp. demonstrating the phytochemical richness of this genus. These components have been associated with a variety of pharmacological effects, including: anti-microbial, anti-apoptotic, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory activities. In this paper, the bioactivity of various classes of metabolites produced by Cordyceps spp., and their therapeutic properties have been reviewed in an attempt to update the existing literature. Furthermore, one of its nucleoside and a key bioactive compound, cordycepin has been critically elaborated with regard to its biosynthesis pathway and the recently proposed protector-protégé mechanism as well as various biological and pharmacological effects, such as: suppression of purine and nucleic acid biosynthesis, induction of apoptosis, and cell cycle regulation with their mechanism of action. Cordyceps militaris is widely used in many Asian countries as a traditional medicinal material for treating various ailments. This study aims to investigate how the growth of the medicinal mushroom C. militaris is influenced by the culture medium and culture conditions in a controlled laboratory setting. The results indicate that aromatic brown rice (BT7) significantly increases the fresh weight of all three collected materials of C. militaris. Shoot length and body weight were promoted by the glucose content, silkworm pupa powder and pH of the culture medium ranging from 6.0 to 7.0, with the optimal glucose content being 30.0g per bottle. The optimal temperature for growth is between 22°C and below 25°C, with a light intensity of 600-700 lux. For higher cordycepin content, the recommended harvesting time is 65 days, while for adenosine content should be 55 days after inoculation. These findings provide valuable information to improve both the biomass and quality of C. militaris, which is crucial for large-scale production in the pharmaceutical industry. Cordyceps sinensis (CS) has been widely used as a dietary supplement or traditional medicine for the prevention, treatment, and prognostication of various diseases, because of its pleiotropic pharmacological properties. However, the potential pharmacological action of CS in sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (S-AKI) remains poorly understood. Herein, we investigated the potential pharmacological action of CS against S-AKI and the underlying mechanisms. CS treatment effectively ameliorated renal dysfunction and injury in mice with lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced S-AKI, as indicated by the suppression of inflammatory cytokine expression and secretion. Multiomic analyses suggested that the promotion of mitochondrial energy metabolism might be a potential mechanism through which CS protects mice against S-AKI induced by LPS. Subsequent validation assays confirmed that CS treatment substantially restored the activity of mitochondrial complexes, mitochondrial membrane potential, and ATP production. Moreover, CS concomitantly promoted transition of M1 macrophages to M2 macrophages with increased oxidative phosphorylation, thus indicating that macrophage polarization may also be a potential target for S-AKI treatment. Our findings demonstrated that CS significantly ameliorated renal injury and inflammation in S-AKI by regulating mitochondrial energy metabolism and macrophage polarization, thus providing new insights into the clinical use of CS for the prevention and treatment of S-AKI. A polysaccharide (CP2-S), consisting of glucose with a weight average molecular weight of 5.9 × 106, was purified from the fruit bodies of Cordyceps militaris. In this work, the corresponding structure and anti-tumor activity in vivo were investigated. Methylation and NMR analysis revealed that CP2-S was composed of a →4)-α-D-Glcp-(1→ backbone with partial substitution occurring at O-6 by T-linked α-D-Glcp in every ten residues, which has not been reported in previous reports. In vivo anti-tumor experiments showed that CP2-S could inhibit the growth of Lewis lung carcinoma in mice. Tumor inhibition rates were 17.8%, 24.5%, and 29.5% at dosages of 12.5, 50, and 100 mg/kg/d, respectively. Compared with the cisplatin group, mice treated with CP2-S exhibited a significant increase in spleen index (increased 22.7–42.4%) and thymus index (increased 47.7–36.8%). Additionally, serum levels of IgM and IgG in tumor-bearing mice increased by approximately 6.11~10.75-folds and 1.31~1.38-folds, respectively. Background: Entomopathogenic fungi can live in insects to cause disease and death and are the largest group of entomopathogenic microorganisms. Therefore, these fungi are best known for their microbial control potential. Importantly, they also have other beneficial effects, including promoting plant growth and development by colonizing plant. Here, the study sought to identify specific strains of the entomopathogenic fungus, Cordyceps cateniannulata that would form endophytic associations with tobacco, thus benefiting plant growth and resistance to abiotic stresses, thereby highlighting the application of entomopathogenic fungi in tobacco. Methods: The C. cateniannulata-tobacco symbiont was constructed by root irrigation. The effects of C. cateniannulata on tobacco growth were evaluated by measuring the maximum leaf length, maximum leaf width, number of leaves, plant height, stem thickness, stem circumference, dry and fresh shoot weight 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after colonization. The peroxidase, catalase, superoxide dismutase, and malondialdehyde were measured to observe the impact of C. cateniannulata on tobacco defense enzyme activity. Finally, high-throughput sequencing was used to access microbial communities in the rhizosphere, with data subsequently linked to growth indicators. Results: After tobacco was inoculated with C. cateniannulata X8, which significantly promoted growth and related enzyme activity, malondialdehyde was decreased. The most significant impact was on peroxidase, with its activity being upregulated by 98.20, 154.42, 180.65, and 170.38% in the four time periods, respectively. The high throughput sequencing results indicated that C. cateniannulata had changed the rhizosphere microbial relative abundances, such as increasing Acidobacteria and Ascomycetes, and decreasing Actinomycetes and Basidiomycetes. The redundancy analysis showed that C. cateniannulata significantly boosted tobacco growth by reducing the abundance of specific dominant genera such as Stachybotrys, Cephalotrichum, Streptomyces, Isoptericola, and Microbacterium. Conclusion: Specific strains of C. cateniannulata can be introduced into host plants as endophytes, resulting in promotion of host plant growth and increased resistance to abiotic stress and microbial pathogens. Cordyceps chanhua is a well-known edible and medicinal mushroom with a long history of use in China, and it contains a variety of secondary metabolites with interesting bioactive ingredients. However, recent researches have mainly focused on cultivation conditions, secondary metabolite compositions and pharmacological activities of C. chanhua, the lack of an efficient and stable genetic transformation system has largely limited further research on the relationship between secondary metabolites and biosynthetic gene clusters in C. chanhua. In this study, single-factor experiments were used to compare the effects of different osmotic stabilizers, enzyme concentrations and enzyme digestion times on protoplast yield, and we found that the highest yield of 5.53 × 108 protoplasts/mL was obtained with 0.7  M mannitol, 6  mg/mL snail enzyme and 4  h of enzyme digestion time, and the regeneration rate of protoplasts was up to approximately 30% using 0.7  M mannitol as an osmotic stabilizer. On this basis, a PEG-mediated genetic transformation system of C. chanhua was successfully established for the first time, which lays the foundation for further genetic transformation of C. chanhua. We report the study of the microencapsulation processes of a protein isolate from Cordyceps militaris using spray drying technique. Maltodextrin (MD), β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and maltodextrin mixed with β-cyclodextrin (MD:β-CD) at ratio of 1:1, 1:2 and 2:1 (weight/weight) and the ratio of protein isolate to wall material of 1:4 (weight/weight) were used as experimental variables. Physicochemical properties of microencapsulated powder, i.e., yield percentage, color value, water activity, encapsulation efficiency, solubility, chemical composition, total phenolic content, DPPH and ABTS radical activities were investigated. Protein isolates encapsulated with MD1:β-CD2 had the highest yield percentage and protein content of 73.89% and 16.75%. However, β-CD encapsulated had the highest encapsulation efficiency and solubility of 89.44% and 95.67%, respectively. In addition, all treatments of microencapsulated powder had water activity, lightness (L*), redness (a*) and yellowness (b*), and total color difference (∆E*) values in the range of 0.21-0.25, 74.74-79.20, 7.32-8.65, 35.59-41.52 and 38.94-46.21, respectively. β-CD encapsulated protein isolate powder had the highest total phenolic content of 101.45 mg GAE/g sample, but MD1:β-CD2 encapsulated protein powder had the highest ABTS radical scavenging activities of 1536.49 µmol Trolox equivalent/g sample, respectively. Therefore, the protein isolate encapsulated with MD1:β-CD2 with its high yield percentage and antioxidant activity, represents an optimal microencapsulation process for Cordyceps militaris. Objective: This study was aimed to investigate the effect of fresh and dried hydrolyzed Cordyceps militaris (CM) mushroom with proteolytic enzymes; bromelain (CMB), flavorzyme (CMF), and mixture of bromelain: flavorzyme (CMBF) on quality properties of spent hen chicken. Methods: Mushroom extract (CME) were combined with three proteolytic enzyme mixtures that had different peptidase activities; stem bromelain (CMB), flavorzyme (CMF), and mixture of stem bromelain:flavorzyme (CMBF) at (1:1). The effect of these hydrolysates was investigated on spent hen breast meat via dipping marination. Results: Hydrolyzation positively alters functional properties of CM protease. in which bromelain hydrolyzed group (CMB) displayed the highest proteolytic activity at 4.57 unit/mL. The antioxidant activity had a significant increment from 5.32% in CME to 61.79% in CMB. A significantly higher emulsion stability index and emulsification activity index compared to CME were another result from hydrolyzation (p<0.05). Texture properties along with the shear force value and myofibrillar fragmentation index were notably improved under CMB and CMBF in fresh condition. Marination with CM mushroom protease that was previously hydrolyzed with enzymes was proven to also increase the nucleotide compounds, indicated by higher adenosine 5'-monophosphate (AMP) and inosine 5'-monophosphate (IMP) in hydrolysate groups (p<0.05). The concentration of both total and insoluble collagen remained unchanged, meaning less effect from CM protease. Conclusion: This study suggested the hydrolyzation of CM protease with bromelain or a mixture of bromelain:flavourzyme to significantly improve functional properties of protease and escalate the taste-related nucleotide compounds and texture profiles from spent hen breast meat. Drinking coffee is a daily routine for many people. Supplement manufacturers have proposed adding powdered Cordyceps militaris, known for its ergogenic and immunostimulating properties, and Hericium erinaceus, known for its nerve growth factor (NGF)-stimulating properties, to coffee. The aim of this work was to compare the bioactive substances in three types of coffee: machine-brewed, instant, and traditionally brewed, prepared with the addition of H. erinaceus and C. militaris fruiting bodies. The analysis of bioactive substances was performed using AAS and RP-HPLC methods. Among the control samples of coffee, traditionally brewed coffee was the best source of bioelements. Considering the mushroom species tested, the best additional source of Mg, Zn, Cu, Na, K, and Ca was C. militaris. A slightly higher Fe content was determined for H. erinaceus. With the addition of C. militaris, the amounts of 4-feruloylquinic acid (18.6 mg/200 mL) and 3,5-di-caffeoylquinic acid (3.76 mg/200 mL) also increased. In conclusion, the C. militaris species has been proven to be a better source of bioactive substances as a coffee additive in the daily diet. [Objective] The present paper aimed to understand the diversity of Bombyx batryticatus pathogen in different silkworm areas and the difference in pathogenicity of Beauveria bassiana strains from different sources to silkworm in Yunnan province. (Method) Pathogens were isolated and purified from silkworm samples collected from 9 counties (cities) in Yunnan provincial silkworm rearing areas. The pathogenic species were identified by observing the morphological characteristics and sporulation structure of the strains, combined with the phylogenetic analysis based on ribosomal rDNA-ITS sequences. Furthermore, the effects of B. bassiana from different geographical sources and different spore concentrations on pathogenicity were also determined and analyzed. [Result] The pathogens of muscardine disease in Yunnan silkworm areas belonged to the genera Beauveria, Metarhizium and Cordyceps, among which B. bassiana and Metarhizium rileyi were the main pathogens, accounting for 57.58% and 30.30% respectively. There were certain differences in the pathogenicity of B. bassiana strains from different geographical sources to silkworm larvae. The batryicated silkworm rate of the tested strains was from 72.5% to 95.0%, and the halflethal time (LT50) was between 5.093 and 7. 133 days. Among them, the LL1-1 strain had the highest batryticated silkworm rate (95. 0%), the shortest half-lethal time (5.093 days), and showed the strongest pathogenicity. In contrast, the CB1-2 strain had the lowest batryicated silkworm rate (75.0%), the longest half-lethal time (7.133 days), and showed the weakest pathogenicity. Moreover, with the increase in the concentration of inoculation pathogen, its pathogenicity became stronger, and the batryicated silkworm rate also increased. [Conclusion] The pathogenic species of silkworm muscardine disease in Yunnan province are diverse. B. bassiana and Metarhizium rileyi are the main pathogens, and the pathogenicity of B. bassiana strains from different sources to silkworm are different.
