Abstract

The layered precursor of MCM-22 was prepared with different Si/Al ratios: 15, 25, 50, 100 and ¥. Upon heat treatment these precursors form MCM-22 zeolite. Both layered precursor and MCM-22 zeolite were characterized by several techniques: Chemical Analysis by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Thermo-gravimetric Analysis (TGA), Pore Analysis by N2 and Ar adsorption, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Infrared Spectroscopy (IR) and Temperature Programmed Desorption of ammonium (TPD).

Abstract

Abstract Zeolites containing Rh single sites stabilized by phosphorous were prepared through a one-pot synthesis method and are shown to have superior activity and selectivity for ethylene hydroformylation at low temperature (50 °C). Catalytic activity is ascribed to confined Rh2O3 clusters in the zeolite which evolve under reaction conditions into single Rh3+ sites. These Rh3+ sites are effectively stabilized in a Rh-(O)-P structure by using tetraethylphosphonium hydroxide as a template, which generates in situ phosphate species after H2 activation. In contrast to Rh2O3, confined Rh0 clusters appear less active in propanal production and ultimately transform into Rh(I)(CO)2 under similar reaction conditions. As a result, we show that it is possible to reduce the temperature of ethylene hydroformylation with a solid catalyst down to 50 °C, with good activity and high selectivity, by controlling the electronic and morphological properties of Rh species and the reaction conditions.

Abstract

Characterization of the genetic landscape of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related dementias (ADD) provides a unique opportunity for a better understanding of the associated pathophysiological processes. We performed a two-stage genome-wide association study totaling 111,326 clinically diagnosed/'proxy' AD cases and 677,663 controls. We found 75 risk loci, of which 42 were new at the time of analysis. Pathway enrichment analyses confirmed the involvement of amyloid/tau pathways and highlighted microglia implication. Gene prioritization in the new loci identified 31 genes that were suggestive of new genetically associated processes, including the tumor necrosis factor alpha pathway through the linear ubiquitin chain assembly complex. We also built a new genetic risk score associated with the risk of future AD/dementia or progression from mild cognitive impairment to AD/dementia. The improvement in prediction led to a 1.6- to 1.9-fold increase in AD risk from the lowest to the highest decile, in addition to effects of age and the APOE ε4 allele.

Abstract

Abstract Approaching the level of molecular recognition of enzymes with solid catalysts is a challenging goal, achieved in this work for the competing transalkylation and disproportionation of diethylbenzene catalyzed by acid zeolites. The key diaryl intermediates for the two competing reactions only differ in the number of ethyl substituents in the aromatic rings, and therefore finding a selective zeolite able to recognize this subtle difference requires an accurate balance of the stabilization of reaction intermediates and transition states inside the zeolite microporous voids. In this work we present a computational methodology that, by combining a fast high-throughput screeening of all zeolite structures able to stabilize the key intermediates with a more computationally demanding mechanistic study only on the most promising candidates, guides the selection of the zeolite structures to be synthesized. The methodology presented is validated experimentally and allows to go beyond the conventional criteria of zeolite shape-selectivity.

Abstract

The exploration of highly efficient catalysts based on nano-sized Ti-rich titanosilicate zeolites with controllable active titanium species is of great importance in zeolite catalytic reactions. Herein, we reported an efficient and facile synthesis of nano-sized Ti-rich TS-1 (MFI) zeolites by replacing tetrabutyl orthotitanate (TBOT) with tetrabutyl orthotitanate tetramer (TBOT-tetramer) as the titanium source. The introduced TBOT-tetramer slowed down the zeolite crystallization process, and accordingly balanced the rate of incorporating Ti and the crystal growth and inhibited the massive formation of anatase species. Notably, the prepared Ti-rich TS-1 zeolite sample had a Si/Ti as low as 27.6 in contrast to conventional one with a molar ratio of 40. The TBOT-tetramer endowed the titanosilicate zeolites with enriched active titanium species and enlarged external surface area. It also impeded the formation of anatase species, resulting in superior catalytic behavior toward the oxidative desulfurization of dibenzothiophene compared with the conventional TS-1 zeolite counterpart prepared with TBOT.

Abstract

Summary: Background: While a low CD4/CD8 ratio during HIV treatment correlates with immunosenescence, its value in identifying patients at an increased risk for clinical events remains unclear. Methods: We analyzed data from the CoRIS cohort to determine whether CD4 count, CD8 count, and CD4/CD8 ratio at year two of antiretroviral therapy (ART) could predict the risk of serious non-AIDS events (SNAEs) during the next five years. These included major adverse cardiovascular events, non-AIDS-defining malignancies, and non-accidental deaths. We used pooled logistic regression with inverse probability weighting to estimate the survival curves and cumulative risk of clinical events. Abstract

En los últimos años se ha confirmado, a través de multitud de estudios, la existencia de perjuicios graves en la salud de las personas derivados de una mala calidad del aire, lo que ha fomentado el interés en diferentes áreas para su mejora. Previamente, en el año 1987, y sus revisiones en 1997 y 2005, la Organización Mundial de la Salud [OMS) ya indicaba los principales contaminantes en el aire exterior y sus efectos adversos para la salud de las personas. Más tarde, en 2010, publicaba las directrices para espacios interiores. Establecidos estos, la organización estimaba, en 2016, que este factor es el causante de la muerte prematura de 4,2 millones de personas en el mundo. En el ámbito nacional, el estudio de la evaluación de la calidad del aire en España de 2020 constata que estos indicadores, entre los que destacan la materia particulada PM2,5 y PM1 O o el Ü 3, superaban ampliamente los valores límite recomendados por la OMS. Es por ello por lo que, el Consejo General de la Arquitectura Técnica de España ha realizado un estudio de la concentración de CO2 en viviendas, analizando diferentes factores que puedan influir en este indicador. En este caso, se presenta la relación de la concentración de CO2 con la apertura de la puerta durante el periodo nocturno, atendiendo a la exposición del usuario en el dormitorio, lo que ha permitido evaluar la diferencia de concentraciones entre los que duermen con la puerta abierta y los usuarios que lo hacen con la puerta cerrada, un factor que a priori puede parecer irrelevante, pero como veremos en los resultados tiene una gran importancia. Abstract In recent years, numerous studies have confirmed the existence of serious damage to people's health resulting from poor air quality, which has fostered interest in different areas for its improvement. Previously, in 1987, and its revisions in 1997 and 2005, the World Health Organization [WHO] already indicated the main pollutants in outdoor air and their adverse effects on people's health. Later, in 2010, it published the guidelines for interior spaces. Established these, the organization estimated, in 2016, that this factor is the cause of the premature death of 4.2 million people in the world. At the national level, the study of the evaluation of air quality in Spain in 2020 confirms that these indicators, among which particulate matter PM2.5 and PM1 O or Ü3 stand out, exceeded widely the limit values recommended by the WHO. That is why the General Council of Technical Architecture of Spain has carried out a study of the concentration of CO2 in homes, analyzing different factors that may influence this indicator. Abstract

Summary: Some HIV controllers experience immunologic progression with CD4+ T cell decline. We aimed to identify genetic factors associated with CD4+ T cell lost in HIV controllers. A total of 561 HIV controllers were included, 442 and 119 from the International HIV controllers Study Cohort and the Swiss HIV Cohort Study, respectively. No SNP or gene was associated with the long-term non-progressor HIV spontaneous control phenotype in the individual GWAS or in the meta-analysis. However, SNPs previously associated with natural HIV control linked to HLA-B (rs2395029 [p = 0.005; OR = 1.70], rs59440261 [p = 0.003; OR = 1.78]), MICA (rs112243036 [p = 0.011; OR = 1.45]), and PSORS1C1 loci (rs3815087 [p = 0.017; OR = 1.39]) showed nominal association with this phenotype. Genetic factors associated with the long-term HIV controllers without risk of immunologic progression are those previously related to the overall HIV controller phenotype.

Abstract

N-Substituted 5-(hydroxymethyl)-2-furfuryl amines have been obtained through the reductive amination of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) with a variety of primary amines using a non-noble metal catalyst based on monodisperse Co nanoparticles covered by a thin carbon layer. The Co@C catalyst was highly active, selective and stable, allowing us to perform the reductive amination of HMF under very mild reaction conditions (60 °C and 4 bar H2) using ethanol as a green solvent and achieve the corresponding amino-alcohol in yields ranging from 80 to 99%. Moreover, the reaction was extended to other furanic aldehydes with excellent success. Furthermore, in order to synthesize amino-ester derivatives, precursors of ammonium salt-based surfactants, the reductive amination of HMF with methylamine was coupled with the selective esterification of the hydroxymethyl group of the furan ring with fatty acids using lipase CALB (Novozym 435) as a biocatalyst in 2-methyltetrahydrofuran as a green and enzyme compatible solvent, achieving practically total conversion to the corresponding amino-esters. The process was implemented in flow reactors by combining two consecutive fixed bed reactors, achieving a global yield of the amino-ester derivative of 85%, which was maintained over 86 h of operation. Abstract

The combination of chemo- and photocatalyses with biocatalysis, which couples the flexible reactivity of the photo- and chemocatalysts with the highly selective and environmentally friendly nature of enzymes in one-pot linear cascades, represents a powerful tool in organic synthesis. However, the combination of photo-, chemo- and biocatalysts in one-pot is challenging because the optimal operating conditions of the involved catalyst types may be rather different, and the different stabilities of catalysts and their mutual deactivation are additional problems often encountered in one-pot cascade processes. This review explores a large number of transformations and approaches adopted for combining enzymes and chemo- and photocatalytic processes in a successful way to achieve valuable chemicals and valorisation of biomass. Moreover, the strategies for solving incompatibility issues in chemo-enzymatic reactions are analysed, introducing recent examples of the application of non-conventional solvents, enzyme–metal hybrid catalysts, and spatial compartmentalization strategies to implement chemo-enzymatic cascade processes. Abstract

The reactive nature of carbenes can be modulated, and ultimately reversed, by receiving additional electron density from a metal. Here, it is shown that Au nanoparticles (NPs) generate an electron-rich carbene on surface after transferring electron density to the carbonyl group of an in situ activated diazoacetate, as assessed by Fourier transformed infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR), and Raman spectroscopy. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations support the observed experimental values and unveil the participation of at least three different Au atoms during carbene stabilization. The surface stabilized carbene shows an extraordinary stability against nucleophiles and reacts with electrophiles to give new products. These findings showcase the ability of catalytic Au NPs to inject electron density in energetically high but symmetrically allowed valence orbitals of sluggish molecules.

Abstract

HCl in solution accepts electron density from Au NPs and partially reduces at room temperature, as occurs with other simple diatomic molecules, such as O2 and H2 . The activation can be run catalytically in the presence of alkynes to give exclusively E-vinyl chlorides, after the regio- and stereoselective transfer of HCl. Based also on this method, vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) can be produced in a milder and greener way than current industrial processes.

Abstract

[Background & aims] It has been reported that specific killer-cell immunoglobulin-like receptors (KIRs) and HLA genotype combinations, such as KIR2DS4/HLA-C1 with presence of KIRDL2 or KIRDL3, homozygous KIRDL3/HLA-C1 and KIR3DL1/≥2HLA-Bw4, are strongly associated with the lack of active infection and seroconversion after exposition to hepatitis C virus (HCV)., [Objective] To determine whether these KIR-HLA combinations are relevant factors involved in that phenotype., [Patients and methods] In this retrospective case-control study, genotype data from a genome-wide association study previously performed on low susceptibility to HCV-infection carried out on 27 high-risk HCV-seronegative (HRSN) individuals and 743 chronically infected (CI) subjects were used. HLA alleles were imputed using R package HIBAG v1.2223 and KIR genotypes were imputed using the online resource KIR*IMP v1.2.0., [Results] It was possible to successfully impute at least one KIR-HLA genotype combination previously associated with the lack of infection and seroconversion after exposition to HCV in a total of 23 (85.2%) HRSN individuals and in 650 (87.5%) CI subjects. No KIR-HLA genotype combination analyzed was related to the HRSN condition., [Conclusions] Our results suggest that those KIR-HLA genotype combinations are not relevant factors involved in the lack of infection and seroconversion after exposition to HCV. More studies will be needed to completely understand this phenotype.

Abstract

AbstractRhodium, palladium, and gold complexes of chiral (NHC)–dioxolane–amino ligands were prepared. Herein, new methods for the heterogenization of NHC‐chiral complexes on porous silica supports are demonstrated for the facile recovery and recycling of these expensive catalysts. Activity, selectivity, and recyclability were investigated and compared to that of the analogous homogeneous catalysts for asymmetric hydrogenation reactions. The compounds were characterized by using a variety of methods, including solid state cross‐polarization magic‐angle spinning (CP MAS) 13C NMR, FT‐IR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. Heterogenized rhodium(I) and palladium(II) catalysts could be used at least four times without loss of activity or enantioselectivity. (NHC)–gold(I) complexes were easily immobilized and recycled by a treatment with benzonitrile during the washing steps between cycles.
