Abstract

The importance of airborne transmission of COVID-19 in an indoor environment is now widely recognized, and it has drawn worldwide attention from both government organizations and researchers. Also, highly occupied indoor spaces such as restaurants, bars, and pubs have been the primarily affected service sectors due to the enforced lockdown measures. In this paper, the relative reduction in virus-laden aerosol exposure in a single-zone highly occupied space due to (i) the operation of HVAC systems and (ii) usage of non-HVAC control measures are investigated by using a recently developed web-based simulation tool. This tool was used to model the release of bio-aerosols in a highly occupied indoor space (i.e., bar or pub) with three different types of HVAC systems (central air handling system, dedicated outdoor air system, and wall unit system). Besides, the non-HVAC control measures were considered, including wearing face masks and use of room air cleaners. The occupant exposure was evaluated for 1 μm aerosols by which SARS-CoV-2 are transported within the indoor space. The exposure was estimated for 3 hrs./day of continuous exposure to a continuous source. The mitigation effects of different types of air filters in the recirculation line of the HVAC systems, ventilation using outdoor air based on the Spanish Thermal Building Regulations (RITE) and use of portable air cleaners (PACs) were investigated. The combined effect of ventilation, recirculated air filtration, and use of the PAC was evaluated in the reduction of aerosol exposure to uninfected occupants with and without wearing face masks. The energy consumption related to the applied control measures was also estimated for each type of HVAC system. In summary, the results of this study contribute to the selection of control options depending on the type of existing HVAC systems and reduced energy consumption. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the feasibility of the single-effect H2O/LiBr absorption cycle for the production of combined heating and cooling. To achieve this, we firstly describe the main changes that the cycle requires in comparison with the conventional singleeffect absorption chiller. Then, we evaluate the limits of the cycle in terms of temperature lifts and LiBr crystallization, so this information will be useful to set the suitable applications for this cycle. Finally, we study the energy and exergy performance of the cycle. As main results, when the chilled and the heated water temperatures are 10 and 55 ºC respectively, the COPc and the COPH are up to 0.85. This leads to a COPtot of up to 1.65. The ECOP achieved by the heat pump ranges between 0.41 and 0.49. 41. Comparaison des performances de machines à absorption mettant en œuvre des solutions salines

Abstract

Les machines à absorption présentent de nombreux avantages pour les applications de production de froid à bas coût énergétique et environnemental. De nombreuses technologies de machines ont été mises au point, souvent basées sur un fluide de travail spécifique. Typiquement, ces fluides de travail sont des mélanges binaires de deux espèces dont l'enthalpie est dépendante du niveau de mélange de la solution. Cette dépendance se traduit par une réaction chimique exo ou endo-thermique lors de l'évaporation ou de la condensation du fluide, ce qui introduit un couplage très fort entre les transferts de masse et de chaleur. Les principaux fluides réfrigérants utilisés dans les machines à absorption sont l'ammoniac et l'eau. L'utilisation de solution saline comme fluide réfrigérant permet de s'affranchir d'un étage de rectification. Dans cette étude, deux machines distinctes fonctionnant avec deux mélanges binaires sont considérées. La première machine a pour fluide de travail \chemform{NH_3}-\chemform{Li N O_3} et pour la seconde ce fluide est \chemform{H_2O}-\chemform{Li Br}. Ces machines ont pour ambition d'utiliser des échangeurs à plaques standard afin de réduire leur coût de fabrication. Dans le cas du mélange à base d'ammoniac, les pressions de travail sont élevées (entre 3 et 6 bar), ce qui permet l'utilisation de générateur de vapeur noyés au niveau de l'évaporateur comme du désorbeur. Dans le cas des machines mettant en œuvre l'eau comme fluide frigorigène, les pressions de fonctionnement sont très faibles (entre 7 et 50 mbar), ce qui nécessite l'utilisation d'échangeurs à plaque couplés à des structures capillaires radiales spécifiques conçues pour limiter les pertes de charge. L'architecture des deux machines est comparée en fonction de leurs conditions de fonctionnement spécifiques sont comparées. L'évolution des performances des composants des machines est étudiée à l'aide de leurs efficacités. La modélisation qui en résulte est validée expérimentalement et les performances des machines sont évaluées aussi bien numériquement qu'expérimentalement.
