The corporo-glans ligament is the ligament connecting the corpus cavernosum and the glans of the penis. The anatomical description of the corporo-glans ligaments shape is still uncertain, this knowledge affects penile reconstructive procedures. The anatomy of the corporo-glans ligament was analyzed and recorded via observing sagittal sections of 10 different penile P45 plastination sections. According to the P45 plastination sections, the corporo-glans junction displayed a fibrous tissue band connecting the distal ends of the two corpus cavernous (CC) with the glans penis (GP). The fibrous band was a round-obtuse shape and ran deep into the glans of the penis and occupied about 2/3 of the whole GP. The original end was laid in a socket embedded in the GP. The density of the fibers of the ligament at the original end close to the tunica albuginea was less than that of the other parts. The fibers originating from the tunica albuginea, directly extended to the blind end of the two CC, covering the distal end of the two CC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Spontaneous penile abscess is rare. Without effective treatment, penile abscesses could evolve into a chronic form with fatal consequences.A subtotal penectomy was performed for a 51-year-old man with no medical history who presented a chronic penile suppuration mimicking tumor.

The corpus spongiosum reportedly occupies a larger proportion of the human glans penis than does the penile body, embedding the end of the corpus cavernosus (CC). However, anatomic descriptions about the fibrous structures of glans penis in the literature cause confusion during dissection and reconstructive surgery. Forty‐five penises of formalin‐embalmed cadavers were dissected sagittally along the course of the distal urethra and observed macroscopically. Dense connective tissues adjacent to the fossa navicularis and spongiosum parts of the glans were cropped, and underwent Masson's trichrome and Verhoeff‐Van‐Gieson staining. Most (55.5%) of the specimens had distinct fibrous bands toward the distal tips of the glans penis, which elongated from the tunica albuginea of the CC. They comprised longitudinal collagen bundles continuous to the outer longitudinal layer of the tunica albuginea covering the CC and were intermingled with sparse elastic fibres. This architecture either did not reach the distal end of the glans penis (35.5% of cases), or was obscure or dispersed in all directions (9.0% of cases). The structural dimorphism and the variations in the ratio of dense connective tissue components of the fibrous skeleton are considered to contribute to the varying degrees of flexibility, distensibility and rigidity of the human glans penis. A case of penile abscess after amphetamine injection into the penis is reported. A 45-year-old male patient was successfully treated with surgical drainage and antibiotics. There were no 3-month consequences of treatment at follow-up, and the patient maintained potency, without any penile deformity. The aetiology, diagnosis, and management of penile abscesses are discussed.

It is known that testosterone deficiency induces apoptosis in the prostate and that p53 protein is involved in this apoptosis. Therefore, p53 protein may also be involved in apoptosis induction in a testosterone-deficient state in the penis. In this study, we investigated whether castration and chemical castration induce apoptosis at penile tissue in rats, and whether p53 protein is involved in this apoptosis. Male SD rats aged 8 weeks were divided into four groups: 1) the Control group; 2) the Castration group; 3) the Estrogen group, in which rats received βestradiol 17-(β-D-glucuronide) injection of 500 μg/body/day; and 4) the LH-RH group, in which rats received LH-RH analogue (leuprorelin acetate) injection of 2 mg/kg. The rats were sacrificed after treatment on days 1, 3, 5, 14, and 28 by cervical dislocation. Apoptotic cells and p53 protein-positive cells were observed on the 5th day after treatment and thereafter in all castration, estrogen, and LH-RH groups. These findings showed that both castration and chemical castration induced p53 protein in vascular endotherial cells in the corpus cavernosus during the process of losing testosterone. It was also suggested that in such states, apoptosis is induced in vascular endotherial cells in the corpus cavernosus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
