- Abstract
It has been proposed that a form of cortical reorganization (changes in functional connectivity between brain areas) can be assessed with resting-state (rs) functional MRI (fMRI). Here, we report a longitudinal data set collected from 19 patients with subcortical stroke and 11 controls. Patients were imaged up to five times over 1 year. We found no evidence, using rs-fMRI, for longitudinal poststroke cortical connectivity changes despite substantial behavioral recovery. These results could be construed as questioning the value of resting-state imaging. Here, we argue instead that they are consistent with other emerging reasons to challenge the idea of motor-recovery-related cortical reorganization poststroke when conceived of as changes in connectivity between cortical areas.NEW & NOTEWORTHY We investigated longitudinal changes in functional connectivity after stroke. Despite substantial motor recovery, we found no differences in functional connectivity patterns between patients and controls, nor any changes over time. Assuming that rs-fMRI is an adequate method to capture connectivity changes between cortical regions after brain injury, these results provide reason to doubt that changes in cortico-cortical connectivity are the relevant mechanism for promoting motor recovery.

The document presents the estimate of an Index of Conditions of Monetary Policy Transmission for Colombia. The index aggregates economic, financial, and sociopolitical conditions that modify the transmission of monetary policy rate adjustments to economic activity and inflation. Smooth transition regressions are used in order to identify these conditions, over a three-equational model built upon an IS curve, a Phillips curve and a monetary policy rule. The index is estimated for the Colombian case, using quarterly data from 2002-2019. Results show that the output gap, the composition of the economy, measures of credit risk, external debt, and consumer confidence, have an impact on the monetary policy transmission process. The estimated index summarizes the information of these variables and therefore is proposed as a complementary tool for the design and evaluation of monetary policy. Magíster en Economía Maestría

- Abstract
Background Evidence from animal studies suggests that greater reductions in poststroke motor impairment can be attained with significantly higher doses and intensities of therapy focused on movement quality. These studies also indicate a dose-timing interaction, with more pronounced effects if high-intensity therapy is delivered in the acute/subacute, rather than chronic, poststroke period. Objective To compare 2 approaches of delivering high-intensity, high-dose upper-limb therapy in patients with subacute stroke: a novel exploratory neuroanimation therapy (NAT) and modified conventional occupational therapy (COT). Methods A total of 24 patients were randomized to NAT or COT and underwent 30 sessions of 60 minutes time-on-task in addition to standard care. The primary outcome was the Fugl-Meyer Upper Extremity motor score (FM-UE). Secondary outcomes included Action Research Arm Test (ARAT), grip strength, Stroke Impact Scale hand domain, and upper-limb kinematics. Outcomes were assessed at baseline, and days 3, 90, and 180 posttraining. Both groups were compared to a matched historical cohort (HC), which received only 30 minutes of upper-limb therapy per day. Results There were no significant between-group differences in FM-UE change or any of the secondary outcomes at any timepoint. Both high-dose groups showed greater recovery on the ARAT (7.3 ± 2.9 points; P = .011) but not the FM-UE (1.4 ± 2.6 points; P = .564) when compared with the HC. Conclusions Neuroanimation may offer a new, enjoyable, efficient, and scalable way to deliver high-dose and intensive upper-limb therapy.

Through the present project, developed under the modality of Master's Thesis in Management - MBA, two proposals are presented to reduce the logistic costs incurred by COFCO International Colombia SAS, in the movement of coffee from the production centers to the port of origin, within the framework of the INCOTERM model - FOB. The realization of qualitative analysis, field visits, flow charts and quantitative analysis of the data provided by the company, to know the current state of the sector, allowed to determine aspects to present two proposals that could solve the problem of COFCO International Colombia S.A.S. against logistic costs, and consequently show positive results in the profitability of the company. In this research, to have a point of reference, the case of COFCO International Colombia S.A.S., an exporter, importer and private trader of green coffee in grains, was analyzed. Starting this project, the context in Colombia was analyzed first. Historically, this country has depended on the extractive sector as a source of income and development for the inhabitants and the productive apparatus of the country. Within this sector, the coffee industry has played an important role for the nation. This contributes 16% of agricultural GDP, 6% of the value of exports from the sector and directly or indirectly benefits more than 553 thousand families (National Federation of Coffee Growers, 2017). Second, in addition to the above, it was considered pertinent to make a diagnosis of the organization in the analyzed process. This, in order to identify the processes, agents involved and times that could help us identify opportunities and threats for the model. Subsequently, an information survey of the sector and the company was carried out to proceed to formulate possible proposals that could improve the process. These proposals were evaluated against the reality of the sector and the agents that intervene directly or indirectly to evaluate if its implementation is feasible.

- Abstract
[Abstract] In soccer, the variables of strength, speed and flexibility are associated with the athletic performance capacity of athletes, being these determinants not only to adapt to the demands of the competition, but at the same time flexibility can help to reduce the risk of injury. The aim of the study was to determine the effect on strength and speed after reducing muscle shortening. This is a quantitative study with an observational-analytical cross-sectional design. The evaluated sample consisted of 22 under-13 category players with an average age of 13.40±0.66 years, a height of 156.95±9.27 cm, and a body mass of 44.54±7.29 kg. They were randomly divided into a control group (n=10) and an experimental group (n=12). The experimental group underwent an 8-week intervention involving static stretches, incorporating the Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation method in the fourth week to decrease muscle shortening before the post-test. Knee extension and dorsiflexion were assessed using a goniometer, and physical abilities were measured through the My Jump Lab app, including Squat Jump, Counter Movement Jump, Counter Movement Jump with Arms, the Nordics hamstring test, and speed in 10, 20, and 30 meters using the Runmatic app. Significant results (p<0.05) were observed for jump height in Squat Jump, jump height, flight time, and speed in Counter Movement Jump, torque in the Nordics test, and speed in 30 meters.

- Abstract

- Abstract

- Abstract
The primary manifestations of Parkinson's disease are abnormalities of movement, including movement slowness, difficulties with gait and balance, and tremor. We know a considerable amount about the abnormalities of neuronal and muscle activity that correlate with these symptoms. Motor symptoms can also be described in terms of motor control, a level of description that explains how movement variables, such as a limb's position and speed, are controlled and coordinated. Understanding motor symptoms as motor control abnormalities means to identify how the disease disrupts normal control processes. In the case of Parkinson's disease, movement slowness, for example, would be explained by a disruption of the control processes that determine normal movement speed. Two long-term benefits of understanding the motor control basis of motor symptoms include the future design of neural prostheses to replace the function of damaged basal ganglia circuits, and the rational design of rehabilitation strategies. This type of understanding, however, remains limited, partly because of limitations in our knowledge of normal motor control. In this article, we review the concept of motor control and describe a few motor symptoms that illustrate the challenges in understanding such symptoms as motor control abnormalities.
