Abstract

Uterine mesenchymal tumors (UMTs) are the second most common type of tumors within the uterus corpus after endometrial carcinomas. Among the UMTs, smooth muscle neoplasms are the most common subtype, followed by endometrial stromal sarcoma (ESS). ESSs are uncommon malignancies characterized by molecular heterogeneity and an aggressive behavior. Their management poses significant challenges, particularly for high-grade subtypes. Surgery is the primary intervention for localized disease, while the role of adjuvant therapies, including radiation and chemotherapy, must be better investigated. Hormonal therapy has shown efficacy in low-grade cases but limited success in high-grade tumors. Recent advancements in molecular profiling have revealed potential targets, offering promise for personalized treatments. However, novel therapeutic strategies are urgently needed to improve patient outcomes, particularly for advanced and recurrent disease. This review offers a perspective on the possible novel therapeutic approaches based on the most recent molecular analyses performed on endometrial stromal sarcomas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Background: The investigation of Agaricales diversity in the Antarctica is limited, with only seven genera reported for the region. Galerina stands out as the genus with the highest species diversity, including 12 species in Antarctica. This research reports the presence of G. marginata in the region, providing the first complete morphological description for the specimen developing in Antarctica. Sampling was conducted during the Austral summer of 2022/2023 as part of the XLI Brazilian Antarctic Operation in Point Smellie, Byers Peninsula, Livingston Island, South Shetland Archipelago, Antarctica. Phylogenetic relationships reconstructed by Maximum Likelihood demonstrate that G. marginata forms a monophyletic clade with over 60% bootstrap support in most branches. The isolate in this study was found to be internal to the main cluster. Evolutionary reconstructions using the Maximum Likelihood method indicate that the branches correspond to the Antarctic isolate being an internal clade within the marginata group. Recording fungal populations in polar regions offers information about their adaptation and survival in inhospitable environments. Understanding the species' distribution in Antarctica encourages future investigations into its ecology and interactions with other organisms. Here, data are presented to establish an initial foundation for monitoring the G. marginata population in Antarctica and assessing the potential impacts of climate change on its development and survival in the forthcoming years. New information: We report the third occurrence of Galerina marginata (Batsch) Kühner in Antarctica and provide, for the first time, a comprehensive morphological description of an individual of the species for the Antarctic continent, accompanied by phylogenetic analyses and comprehensive discussions regarding its diversity and global distribution. Abstract

Fungi and Aves are present in all ecosystems and interact with a variety of organisms. The purpose of this study was to compile and analyze in the literature the mycophagy and association of birds with fungi to evaluate the aspects of interaction habits and habitat in natural and industrial environments. In this study, 64 species of wild birds were found with documented interactions involving fungi. However, only 32 had the consumed or used-for-nesting fungi species fully identified. In these cases, there is a correlation between the birds' foraging habits and the habitats of fungi. According to the findings of this review study, birds' foraging habits are closely linked to fungi habitats in relation the interactions between the groups. Also, the poultry industry is increasingly using mushrooms as a nutritional supplement due to their benefits. Despite the limited knowledge about the nutritional benefits of these associations in the wild, results from the industry indicate that the benefits would be similar. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The aim of this abstract is to present SHS (Simple Housing Solution) Project and its latest research results of SHS Multirisk, in line with the Sendai Framework fo Disaster Risk Reduction (2015-2030) and the Paris Agreement on Climate change (2015). The SHS Project (Simple Housing Solution) consists of a methodology for (re) construction of residences and other small buildings, in a colective effort system (community construction), seeking to optimize the available resources and contribute to the organization of the chaos installed during critical situations, such as the pos-disaster or the construction of a routine to mitigate risks. SHS is a spin-off project in a partnership between Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and University of Aveiro (UA) and proposes a residence model resistant simultaneously to earthquake and hurricane threats, within a specific range of magnitudes to be defined in the design, using simple, low-cost, and environmentally friendly construction technologies when compared to traditional alternatives. The main constructive technology adoptedin the SHS Project is Compacted Earth Blocks - CEBs reinforced masonry. For theseismic load scenarios, the importance of compatibility between materials is highlighted to guarantee the expected performance of the masonry.Former studies indicated the present SHS - Multirisk house model is adequate to 0.2g PGA in class A-D soils (near to Haiti 2018 earthquake's scenario).
