High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
We test the Principle of Equivalence for particles and antiparticles, using CPLEAR data on tagged K0 and K0bar decays into pi^+ pi^-. For the first time, we search for possible annual, monthly and diurnal modulations of the observables |eta_{+-}| and phi_{+-}, that could be correlated with variations in astrophysical potentials. Within the accuracy of CPLEAR, the measured values of |eta_{+-}| and phi_{+-} are found not to be correlated with changes of the gravitational potential. We analyze data assuming effective scalar, vector and tensor interactions, and we conclude that the Principle of Equivalence between particles and antiparticles holds to a level of 6.5, 4.3 and 1.8 x 10^{-9}, respectively, for scalar, vector and tensor potentials originating from the Sun with a range much greater than the distance Earth-Sun. We also study energy-dependent effects that might arise from vector or tensor interactions. Finally, we compile upper limits on the gravitational coupling difference between K0 and K0bar as a function of the scalar, vector and tensor interaction range., Comment: 15 pages latex 2e, five figures, one style file (cernart.csl) incorporated

A detailed description of the analysis of neutral kaons decaying to e pi nu is given, based on the complete set of data collected with the CPLEAR experiment, Using a novel approach involving initially strangeness-tagged K-0 and (K) over bar (0), time-dependent decay-rate asymmetries were measured, These asymmetries enabled T- and CPT-violation parameters to be measured in the context of a systematic study. The highlights of this study arc the first direct observation of T violation and the direct determination of the CPT parameter Re(delta) with an accuracy improved by two orders of magnitude with respect to the current value.

- Abstract
The CPLEAR set-up (modified) has been used to determine the K-L-K-S mass difference by a method where neutral-kaon strangeness oscillations are monitored through kaon strong interactions, rather than semileptonic decays, thus requiring no assumptions on CPT invariance for the decay amplitudes. The result, Deltam = (0.5343 +/- 0.0063(stat) +/- 0.0025(syst)) x 10(10)h/s, provides a valuable input for CPT tests. (C) 2001 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. Physics Letters B

A detailed description is given of the analysis of neutral kaons decaying to pi (+)pi (-), based on the complete set of data collected with the CPLEAR experiment. Using a novel approach involving initially strangeness-tagged K-0 and (K) over bar (0), the time-dependent decay-rate asymmetry has been measured. This asymmetry, resulting from the interference between the K-S and K-L decay amplitudes, has enabled both the magnitude and phase of the CP-violation parameter, eta (+-), to be measured, with a precision comparable to that of the current world-average values. - Abstract
We apply a forward dispersion relation to the regeneration amplitude for kaon scattering on C-12 using all available data. The CPLEAR data at low energies allow the determination of the net contribution from the subthreshold region which turns out to be much smaller than earlier evaluations, solving a long standing puzzle.

The CPT-violation parameters Re(delta) and Im(delta) determined recently by CPLEAR are used to evaluate the K-0-(K) over bar(0) mass and decay-width differences, as given by the difference between the diagonal elements of the neutral-kaon mixing matrix (M - i Gamma/2). The results - (M-K0K0 - M0 ($) over bar 0)) = (- 1.5 +/- 2.0) x 10(-18) GeV and (Gamma(K0K0) - Gamma(($) over bar 0 ($) over bar 0)) = (3.9 +/- 4.2) x 10(-18) GeV - are consistent with CPT invariance. The CPT invariance is also shown to hold within a few times 10(-3)-10(-4) for many of the amplitudes describing neutral-kaon decays to different final states. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. We report the results of the CPLEAR experiment on CP-, T-, and CPT-symmetries in the neutral kaon system. CP-violation parameters are given for the K-0, (K) over bar(0) –> 2 pi, 3 pi decay channels. For the first time, T-violation is measured by a direct method using semileptonic decays. The CPT symmetry is tested through the parameters Im(delta) with a precision of 10(-5) and Re(delta) with a precision of a few 10(-4). With these two measurements, the difference in mass and width of K-0 and (K) over bar(0) are bound to within 10(-18) GeV. In the limit of CPT invariance in the neutral kaon decays, the K-0 and (K) over bar(0) masses are equal within 10(-19) GeV.

- Abstract
We study pi pi correlations in the exclusive reactions (p) over bar p –> 2 pi(+)2 pi(-) and (p) over bar p –> 2 pi(+)2 pi(-)pi(0) at rest with complete reconstruction of the kinematics for each event. A new analysis technique has been developed which is model independent. With this new technique, which relies on double-differential distributions, no reference sample is needed to extract the correlation signal. The correlations are studied as a function of the four-pion invariant mass.

We test the Principle of Equivalence for particles and antiparticles, using CPLEAR data on tagged K-0 and (K) over bar(0) decays into pi(+) pi(-). For the first time, we search for possible annual, monthly and diurnal modulations of the observables \eta(+-)\ and phi(+-), that could be correlated with variations in astrophysical potentials. Within the accuracy of CPLEAR, the measured values of \eta(+-)\ and phi(+-) are found not to be correlated with changes of the gravitational potential. We analyze data assuming effective scalar, vector and tensor interactions, and we conclude that the Principle of Equivalence between particles and antiparticles holds to a level of 6.5, 4.3 and 1.8 X 10(-9), respectively, for scalar, vector and tensor potentials originating from the Sun with a range much greater than the distance Earth-Sun. We also study energy-dependent effects that might arise from vector or tensor interactions. Finally, we compile upper limits on the gravitational coupling difference between K-0 and (K) over bar(0) as a function of the scalar, vector and tensor interaction range. search ,decay - Abstract
Data from the CPLEAR experiment, together with the most recent world averages for some of the neutral-kaon parameters, were constrained with the Bell-Steinberger (or unitarity) relation, allowing the T-violation parameter Re(epsilon) and the CPT-violation parameter Im(delta) of the neutral-kaon mixing matrix to be determined with an increased accuracy: Re(epsilon)=(164.9 +/- 2.5) x 10(-5), Im(delta)=(2.4 +/- 5.0) x 10(-5). Moreover, the constraint allows the CM-violation parameter for the neutral-kaon semileptonic decays, Re(), to be determined for the first time. The Delta S not equal Delta Q parameters Re(x_) and Im(x(+)) are given with an increased accuracy. The quantity Re(y + x_), which enters the T-violation CPLEAR asymmetry previously published, is determined to be (- 0.2 +/- 0.3) x 10(-3). The value obtained for Re(delta) is in agreement with the one resulting from a previous unconstrained fit and has a slightly smaller error. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V, All rights reserved. We report the results of the CPLEAR experiment on CP-, T- and CPT-symmetries in the neutral kaon system. CP-violation parameters are given for different decay channels. For the first time T-violation is measured by a direct method using semileptonic decays. The CPT symmetry in the kaons decays is tested through the parameters Im(delta), from the Bell-Steinberger relation, with a precision. of 10(-5) and Re(delta) with a precision of a. few 10(-4) (two order of magnitude better than the previous measurement). These two measurements allow us to bound the difference in mass and width of K-0 and (K) over bar(0) It to be equal within 10(-18) GeV. In the limit of CPT invariance in the neutral kaon decays, the K-0 and (K) over bar(0) masses are equal within 10(-19) GeV.

- Abstract
We report on the first observation of time-reversal symmetry violation through a comparison of the probabilities of (K) over bar(0) transforming into K-0 and K-0 into (K) over bar(0) as a function of the neutral-kaon eigentime t. The comparison is based on the analysis of the neutral-kaon semileptonic decays recorded in the CPLEAR experiment. There, the strangeness of the neutral kaon at time t = 0 was tagged by the kaon charge in the reaction –> K (+/-) pi (+/-) K-0 ((K) over bar(0)) at rest, whereas the strangeness of the kaon at the decay time t = tau was tagged by the lepton charge in the final state. An average decay-rate asymmetry [R((K) over bart=00 –> e+pi-nut=tau) - R(Kt=00 –> e-pi+t=tau)/R((K) over bart=00 –> e+pi-nut=tau) + R(Kt=00 –> e-pi+t=tau)] = (6.6 +/- 1.3stat +/- 1.0syst) X 10-3 was measured over the interval 1 tau(S) < tau < 20 tau(S), thus leading to evidence for time-reversal non-invariance. We have improved by two orders of magnitude the Limit currently available for the CPT violation parameter Re(delta). To this purpose we have analyzed the full sample of neutral-kaon decays to e pi nu recorded in the CPLEAR experiment, where the strangeness of the neutral kaons was tagged at production and decay time. An appropriate function of the measured decay rates, including information from the analysis of pi(+)pi(-) decay channel, gives directly Re(delta). The result Re(delta) = (3.0 +/- 3.3(stat) +/- 0.6(syst)) X 10(-4) is compatible with zero. Values for the parameters Im(delta), Re(x(-)) and Im(x(+)) were also obtained. We report on a new measurement of the K-L-K-S mass difference Delta m using the CPLEAR full data sample of neutral-kaon decays to e pi nu. The result is Delta m = (0.5295 +/- 0.0020(stat) +/- 0.0003(syst)) X 10(10) (h) over bar/s. It includes earlier data reported in R. Adler et al., CPLEAR Collaboration, Phys. Lett. B 363 (1995) 237. A measurement of the Delta S = Delta Q violating parameter Re(x) is also obtained. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved. Physics Letters B

There, the strangeness of the neutral kaon at time t = 0 was tagged by the kaon charge in the reaction --> K (+/-) pi (+/-) K-0 ((K) over bar(0)) at rest, whereas the strangeness of the kaon at the decay time t = tau was tagged by the lepton charge in the final state. An average decay-rate asymmetry [R((K) over bart=00 --> e+pi-nut=tau) - R(Kt=00 --> e-pi+t=tau)/R((K) over bart=00 --> e+pi-nut=tau) + R(Kt=00 --> e-pi+t=tau)] = (6.6 +/- 1.3stat +/- 1.0syst) X 10-3 was measured over the interval 1 tau(S) < tau < 20 tau(S), thus leading to evidence for time-reversal non-invariance. - Abstract
The EPR-type strangeness correlation in the K-0 system produced in the reaction –> K-0 at rest has been tested using the CPLEAR detector. The strangeness was tagged via strong interaction with absorbers away from the creation point. The results are consistent with the QM non-separability of the wave function and exclude a spontaneous wave-function factorisation ar creation (CL > 99.99%). (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.

High Energy Physics::Experiment - Abstract
- Abstract
The CP-violation parameter eta(00) is determined through the eigentime-dependent asymmetry in the rates of initially tagged (K) over bar(0) and K-0 decaying to pi(0) pi(0). From the analysis of the complete data set we obtain the values \eta(00)\ = [2.47 +/- 0.31(stat) +/- 0.24(syst.)] x 10(-3) and phi(00) = 42.0(0) +/- 5.6(stat.)(0) +/- 1.9(syst.)(0). - Abstract

- Abstract
{We test the Principle of Equivalence for particles and antiparticles, using CPLEAR data on tagged K-0 and (K) over bar(0) decays into pi(+) pi(-). For the first time, we search for possible annual, monthly and diurnal modulations of the observables \textbackslash{}eta(+-)\textbackslash{} and phi(+-), that could be correlated with variations in astrophysical potentials. Within the accuracy of CPLEAR, the measured values of \textbackslash{}eta(+-)\textbackslash{} and phi(+-) are found not to be correlated with changes of the gravitational potential.
