Background: The Perceived Physical Literacy Instrument (PPLI) has been the most adopted physical literacy instrument designed for adults to date, having been already translated to 5 languages. Still, despite its popularity, there is limited evidence of its psychometric properties. The aim of this study was to translate and adapt cross-culturally the PPLI to the Portuguese language and to analyze the psychometric properties of the Portuguese version in a sample of Portuguese-speaking adults. Methods: The study sample was composed of 434 participants (70% females) with a median age of 25 (18–39) years. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to assess psychometric properties of the scale. In addition, instrument assumptions between sexes through invariance testing were examined. Finally, concurrent validity, test–retest reliability, and test–retest agreement analyses were performed to gather additional evidence. Results: The results of the present study generally supported the measurement model. The 9-item, 3-factor model presented a good fit to the data and adequate construct validity (χ2 = 82.859 [24], P <.001, comparative-fit index =.948, Tucker–Lewis index =.922, standardized root mean square residual =.049, root mean square error of approximation =.075). In addition, the scale presented concurrent validity. Some issues arose with measurement invariance and overtime consistency. Conclusions: Considering the lack of validated instruments, we suggest a fair use of Portuguese version of PPLI to access physical literacy in adults. This study contributes to the validation of the PPLI by providing evidence of its psychometric properties in the Portuguese-speaking adult population and facilitates comparative analysis with previous and future studies utilizing the PPLI instrument. Subjective evaluation of sedentary behaviour using questionnaires can be used to measure sedentary time. The Sedentary Behaviour Questionnaire (SBQ) is a valid and reliable way to measure sedentary time. Our objectives were to: 1) linguistically and culturally adapt the SBQ to the Arabic-speaking populations; and 2) assess its psychometric properties. The SBQ translation and cross-cultural adaptation were performed according to published guidelines. The psychometric properties of the translated version were investigated in a sample of ambulatory healthy adults from the general population in Jordan. The Arabic version of the SBQ was produced (SBQ-Ar) with good face and content validity. In terms of convergent validity, significant Spearman’s correlations were found between weekdays total sedentary hours and item 26 of the Arabic version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ-Ar) (rho = 0.26; p < 0.001); and between weekends total sedentary hours and IPAQ-Ar’s item 27 (rho = 0.38, p < 0.01). Regarding discriminant validity, there were no significant differences in total sedentary hours/week with respect to body mass index and physical activity. There was a significant negative correlation between participants’ age and total sedentary hours/week (rho = −0.23, p < 0.01). Regarding reliability, intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) for weekdays, weekends, and all days were as follows: ICC(2,1) (95% CI) = 0.83 (0.65–0.91); 0.86 (0.74–0.92); and 0.85 (0.70–0.92) respectively. For internal consistency, Cronbach’s alpha for weekdays and weekend items were 0.41 and 0.42, respectively. Purpose: The Core Outcome Measures Index (COMI) is a multidimensional tool designed to assess the changes in health status of individuals with low back pain (LBP) over time as reported by them. It has been validated and translated into several languages. The objective of this study was to translate COMI into traditional Chinese and test its reliability and validity among the Cantonese-speaking people with LBP in Hong Kong. Methods: The COMI was translated into traditional Chinese following standard procedures and avoiding region-specific terminology. A total of 120 Cantonese-speaking individuals with LBP from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University were recruited. Participants completed a baseline translated COMI questionnaire online. After two–three days, a second set of online questionnaires, including the translated COMI, the traditional Chinese version of the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), the Roland Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ), and the EuroQol Five-Dimensional Five-Level Questionnaire (EQ-5D-5L), were administered to assess the reliability and validity of the translated COMI. Results: The standard Chinese version of COMI was successfully back-translated. There were low floor and ceiling effects, except for symptom-based well-being (floor effect) and disability (ceiling effect). In two rounds of surveys, the Cronbach’s alpha values were 0.79 and 0.80, respectively, indicating sufficient internal consistency. The intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC(2,1)] for the overall score of the COMI was 0.91 (95% CI: 0.86–0.94), and for each item, it ranged from 0.7 to 0.88, demonstrating good test–retest reliability. The HK-COMI was confirmed to be a valid measure. Spearman’s rho correlation tests showed a high correlation with ODI (rho=0.60) and EQ-5D-5L (rho=0.73), and a moderate correlation with RMDQ (rho=0.53). Conclusion: The traditional Chinese version of COMI is a valid and reliable tool for measuring the effectiveness of treatment for LBP among the Cantonese-speaking people in Hong Kong. Background: Cardiac arrest remains a serious global health issue worldwide which claims for review and improvement. High motivation among resuscitators could lead to high-quality resuscitation and better outcomes. This study aimed to translate and cross-culturally adapt the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Motivation Scale into Spanish and assess the psychometric properties of the Spanish version (s-CPRMS). Methods: A sample of critical care and acuity-emergency physicians and nurses (N = 352) participated in an observational cross-sectional study structured in 3 phases. Results: Face and content validity was confirmed for the s-CPRMS (s-CVI = 0.88). The ordinal alpha was 0.847, ranging from 0.796 to 0.92 for the factors, indicating good reliability and temporal stability (mean ICC = 0.701; p < 0.001). The Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) results showed the s-CPRMS was distributed into four factors that explained 58% of the variance with values of the goodness of fit indices indicating an adequate fit for the model extracted in the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA): χ2 (246) = 402.240; p < 0.001, SRMR = 0.086, RMSEA = 0.059, TLI = 0.965, CFI = 0.969, GFI = 0.990. Conclusions: The s-CPRMS is a valid and reliable instrument to assess the motivation of resuscitation teams, which might lead to potential effective strategies to resuscitation quality improvement and outcomes. Background: Trauma is a prevalent issue in public health, where individuals who experience physical injuries are also at risk of compromised mental health. Psychological resilience is considered a positive indicator that can predict the prognosis of trauma patients throughout their traumatic experiences. Currently, there is a lack of tools in China for measuring the psychological resilience of trauma patients. The aim of this study was to translate and cross-culturally adapt the Trauma Resiliency Scale (tRS-18) into Chinese and to test its reliability and validity in China. Methods: The Trauma Resiliency Scale (tRS-18) was translated into a Chinese version suitable for the Chinese language environment using the Brislin translation model. A convenience sampling method was used to select 588 trauma patients as study subjects. Reliability was assessed using Cronbach's alpha coefficient, 14-day test-retest reliability, and split-half reliability. Validity was examined through the content validity index, structural validity, and convergent validity. Structural validity was specifically evaluated through exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Results: The total variance explained by the single-factor model in the exploratory factor analysis (EFA) of the Chinese version of the tRS-18 was 62.048%, and the factor loading of each item exceeded 0.4. The results of the CFA indicated that the model demonstrated a favorable fit index (X2/df = 1.620; RMSEA = 0.046; SRMR = 0.026; NFI = 0.945; CFI = 0.978; GFI = 0.927; TLI = 0.975; IFI = 0.978). The Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the reliability index was 0.963, the test-retest reliability was 0.970, and the split-half reliability was 0.964, which were all within the reference value range. Background: Sleep disturbances are associated with decreased quality of life, increased use of healthcare resources, and poor mood. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) is a standardised questionnaire that was created to help measure sleep quality and to alert medical professionals to the need for additional evaluation of patients exhibiting sleep-related complaints in seven domains based on the previous month. The non-availability of the Igbo version can affect its effective use among Igbo speakers in Southeast Nigeria. Aim: To translate and cross-culturally adapt the PSQI scale to the Igbo Culture and Environment among Igbo language speakers in Southeast Nigeria using established guidelines. Method: The PSQI was translated, combined, back-translated, and reviewed by an expert panel, leading to the development of the final Igbo version (I-PSQI). A sample size of 100 was calculated using G-power, and the PSQI and I-PSQI were distributed to 100 apparently healthy adults (40% males and 60% females) recruited conveniently in Otolo Nnewi, Nigeria. The data were analysed using frequency counts, percentages, means, standard deviations, Spearman rank order tests, Cronbach's alpha, and principal component analysis (PCA). The level of significance was set at 0.05. Results: There was no statistically significant difference observed between the PSQI and I-PSQI scores (p < 0.001). The correlations between the corresponding domains and total scores on both versions of the PSQI were excellent (ρ = 0.86–1.0). The Cronbach's alpha value of the I-PSQI was 0.7, indicating acceptable internal consistency between the items on the I-PSQI. AbstractIn spite of its importance, studies presenting detailed development procedures of alternate forms of verbal memory paradigms remains limited and unclear in terms of word selection criteria, while failing to consider word familiarity factors, despite its crucial role on episodic memory retrieval and encoding mechanisms. The present study aims to present the cross-cultural linguistic adaptation and development procedures of alternate forms of the Free and Cued Selective Reminding Test to the Brazilian context (FCSRT) based on word familiarity. After translation and backtranslation procedures, 231 new words were gathered and underwent a step-by-step familiarity analysis. Initially, overall familiarity feel of each word was assessed through the Familiarity Form (FF) during phase 1, and exposure frequency to words were later assessed through the Familiarity Questionnaire (FQ) completed by healthy controls during phase 2 with the remaining words considered ambiguous in terms of familiarity. Three alternate forms of the FCRST were then developed and assessed in terms of familiarity by the FQ during phase 3, and later administered in healthy control groups during phase 4. Repeated measures analysis revealed no significant differences in terms of familiarity and memory performance among the developed forms. Purpose: To cross-culturally adapt and validate the Radboud Dysarthria Assessment (RDA) and the speech component of the Radboud Oral Motor inventory for Parkinson's disease (ROMP-speech) into the Arabic language among Lebanese subjects with dysarthria. Materials and methods: This study included 50 participants with dysarthria. The Arabic versions of the RDA (A-RDA) and the ROMP-speech (A-ROMP-speech) were administered in addition to the Arabic Speech Intelligibility test, the Lebanese Voice Handicap Index–10 (VHI-10lb) and semantic verbal fluency tasks. The maximum performance tasks were analyzed using the Praat software. The A-RDA qualitative recording form and the A-ROMP-speech were assessed for construct validity and internal consistency. The convergent validity of the maximum performance tasks, the severity scale, and the A-ROMP-speech were evaluated. Results: Exploratory factor analysis of the qualitative recording form extracted 3 factors explaining 82.973% of the total variance, and it demonstrated high internal consistency (α = 0.912). The maximum performance tasks of the RDA correlated significantly with the corresponding Praat scores. The severity scale and the A-ROMP-speech correlated fairly to strongly with the Arabic Speech Intelligibility test (rs=-0.695 and −0.736, p < 0.001) and the VHI-10lb (r = 0.539 and 0.640, p < 0.001). Conclusion: The A-RDA and the A-ROMP-speech are valid and reliable dysarthria tools among Lebanese subjects. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: The present study cross-culturally adapts and validates a dysarthria assessment tool in the Arab culture. The number of standardised tools is increasing day by day, and the demand for the development of novel and standardised tools is very high. One major reason for this demand is that either standardised tools are not available, or existing tools are not capable of measuring outcomes properly due to a lack of reliability and validity in specific settings. It has been noted that many researchers are not aware of the process of tool development, such as how to conduct a literature review, translate standardised tools, perform cross-cultural adaptations, create shortened versions of existing standardised tools, and construct new tools based on specific diseases. The objective of present review paper is to outline various techniques used in the development of tools and the psychometric testing of these tools. It explores the steps and processes needed to develop a valid, appropriate, and reliable tool that can be used by practitioners. It aimed to assist nurses and researchers in developing Quality of Life (QoL) tools based on their clinical settings and experiences. The common steps in the tool development process include in-depth interviews, item pool generation, and reliability checking. The tool must also include various forms of validity, such as face, concurrent, and content validity, for its development. Psychological safety has recently emerged as a central construct, strictly implicated in mental health and emotional well-being. The Neuroception of Psychological Safety Scale (NPSS) is the first scale designed to assess feelings of psychological safety from a multidimensional perspective. However, the robustness of its factorial structure requires further examination in large community samples, and evidence of construct validity along with measurement invariance across genders is scarce. The present study aimed to address these gaps through a comprehensive cross-validation approach. A community sample of 660 Italian adults, aged 18–65, completed self-report questionnaires including the NPSS, the Compassionate Engagement and Action Scale (CEAS), the Sussex-Oxford Compassion for Others (SOCS), and the Body Perception Questionnaire (BPQ). A three-factor model, i.e., Social Engagement, Compassion, and Bodily Sensations, demonstrated a good fit to the data in two random subsamples. Moreover, the measurement model was factorially invariant across genders. Model-based omega coefficients supported the internal consistency of the NPSS scores (ω ranged between 0.879 and 0.918). Zero-order correlations between NPSS subscales and CEAS, SOCS, and BPQ provided construct validity evidence. Additionally, inter-correlations between latent factors and Harman's single-factor test supported the discriminant validity of the NPSS dimensions. Overall, this study provided compelling evidence regarding the psychometric properties of the NPSS, demonstrating for the first time the invariance of its factorial structure across gender. Introduction: The Pain Sensitivity Questionnaire (PSQ) was developed to assess general pain sensitivity. Objective: This study aimed to validate the Greek version of PSQ. Methods: The questionnaire was translated into Greek (PSQ‐GR) and piloted in a small sample of patients with chronic pain (n = 35). A total of 146 chronic pain patients and healthy volunteers completed the PSQ‐GR, the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and Central Sensitization Inventory (CSI). To evaluate the test‐retest reliability, 36 volunteers completed the PSQ‐GR twice over 7 ± 2 days. Results: Internal consistency was excellent (Cronbach's alpha 0.90–0.96) for PSQ‐total, PSQ‐minor, and PSQ‐moderate. The Intraclass Correlation Coefficient was estimated at 0.90–0.96 for PSQ‐total, PSQ‐minor and PSQ‐moderate and the SEM was 0.59–0.90 for PSQ‐total, PSQ‐minor and PSQ‐moderate approximately. The smallest detectable change was 0.48 for PSQ‐total, 0.47 for PSQ‐minor and 0.44 for PSQ‐moderate. Positive and significant correlations were observed between PSQ‐GR and HADS (r = 0.38, p < 0.01), PCS (r = 0.41, p < 0.01) and CSI (r = 0.30, p < 0.01). Statistically significant differences in PSQ‐GR scores were identified between the healthy volunteers and the chronic pain patients. Despite the inherently meaningful nature of Chinese names, Chinese international students often adopt an English name, particularly when they pursue education in English-speaking countries. Most empirical research on name anglicisation has examined the psychological impact of name change among ethnolinguistic minorities, as well as their experiences with heritage name mispronunciations. Very few studies have looked into the reasons and purposes of adopting an English name. The present study utilises a mixed-methods survey to inquire into the functions and use of English names by Chinese international students in Canada (n = 180), with the goal of providing insight into their name choices, as well as the associated implications for their cross-cultural adaptation. The quantitative and qualitative results suggest that, aside from avoiding name-based discrimination, English names play several adaptive roles, such as facilitating the students' intercultural communication, host connectedness, and integration. Further, English names also provide a route for Chinese international students to stay connected with their heritage culture in a foreign language environment. The findings underscore the importance of respecting language minorities' name choices, whether in their native or the majority language, and call for societal efforts in building a welcoming environment that accepts diverse personal names originating from many different languages. Background: Intermittent self-catheterization (ISC) is widely considered the gold standard for treating patients with neurogenic bladder (NB). Healthcare professionals and catheter users must optimize ISC care to improve patients' quality of life. To achieve this, the Intermittent Self-Catheterization Questionnaire (ISC-Q) is a valuable tool with clear and easy-to-understand items. However, this scale has yet to be adapted for use in China, and its reliability and validity need to be tested through cross-cultural adaptation. Objectives: The objective of this study was to culturally adapt the ISC-Q and develop the Chinese version of the ISC-Q (C-ISC-Q), and assess its reliability and validity among patients with NB. Methods: With the authorization of the ISC-Q author, the Beaton mode was used to adapt the scale cross-culturally. The study was conducted from June 2020 to June 2021 in three phases: committee-based translation from English to Chinese, Delphi expert consultations (n = 5) for cultural adaptation, and a cross-sectional study (n = 149) for validation. Results: The C-ISC-Q has 24 items and four dimensions. The critical ratio of each item is over 3.0, and the correlation coefficient between each item and the scale's total score is above 0.4. The Cronbach's α value for the scale is 0.930, and for each dimension, it is between 0.870–0.92. The retest reliability for the scale is 0.894, and for each dimension is between 0.751–0.889. The content validity at the item level ranges from 0.8~1.0, and at the scale level is 0.9. The criterion-related validity of the scale was −0.708, and the correlation for each dimension was 0.329–0.624. The principal component analysis identified four common factors, with a cumulative contribution rate of 67.846%. Conclusions: The C-ISC-Q is culturally sensitive, reliable, and valid to measure the quality of life for patients with NB. Background: The Central Sensitization Inventory (CSI) is a patient-reported screening instrument that can be used to identify and assess central sensitization (CS)/Central Sensitization Syndrome (CSS)-related symptoms. Objective: The aim was to translate the CSI into Arabic (CSI-Ar) and to subsequently validate its psychometric properties. Design: Cross-sectional. Methods: The CSI was translated and cross-culturally adapted into Arabic, and validated following international standardized guidelines. This study included patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain (n = 264) and healthy control participants (n = 56). Patients completed the CSI-Ar, Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), Depression, Anxiety, and Stress scale (DASS-21), Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK), and 5-level EuroQol-5D (EQ-5D). Patients completed the CSI-Ar twice to assess test–retest reliability. To evaluate discriminative validity, healthy controls participants completed the CSI-Ar. Statistical analyses were conducted to test the internal consistency, reliability, and structural, construct and discriminant validity of CSI-Ar. Results: The CSI-Ar showed acceptable internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.919) and excellent test–retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.874). The CSI-Ar scale had significant correlations (P < 0.001) with all PCS subscales and total score (Spearman's rho = 0.459–0.563, P < 0.001), all DASS-21 subscales and total score (Spearman's rho = 0.599–0.685, P < 0.001), the TSK (Spearman's rho = 0.395, P < 0.001), and the EQ-5D (Spearman's rho = −0.396, P < 0.001). The Mann-Whitney U-test showed a statistically significant difference between the patient group and the healthy control group (P < 0.001), with the healthy controls displaying a lower average CSI-Ar score (12.27 ± 11.50) when compared to the patient group (27.97 ± 16.08). Factor analysis indicated that the CSI-Ar is a unidimensional tool. Background: The intermittent self-catheterization questionnaire (ISC-Q) is a valid and reliable tool to assess the quality of life (QOL) in patients with neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD) who engage in ISC. The aim of this research is to culturally adapt the ISC-Q and evaluate its psychometric properties within the Chinese patient population. Methods: The cross-sectional research was meticulously conducted in two pivotal stages: initially, the focus was on cross-cultural adaptation, followed by an extensive phase of psychometric testing. This comprehensive analysis involved 405 Chinese patients with NLUTD who use ISC. Various analyses, including evaluations of the floor and ceiling effects, item analysis, content validity, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis (EFA and CFA), assessments of convergent, discriminant, and criterion validity. Additionally, Cronbach's alpha was utilized to determine internal consistency, and test-retest reliability was measured using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Results: No floor and ceiling effects were observed. The content validity index was 0.967. The EFA identified four factors, accounting for 64.953% of the total variance, and this four-factor structure was confirmed by the CFA. The fit indices in CFA were favorable, with χ2/df = 1.999, root mean square error of approximation = 0.070, comparative fit index = 0.916, Tucker–Lewis index = 0.900, goodness-of-fit index = 0.863, and incremental fit index = 0.917. The average variance extracted for the four factors ranged from 0.466 to 0.565, with composite reliability values ranging from 0.776 to 0.859. The ISC-Q showed a positive correlation with the intermittent self-catheterization acceptance questionnaire (r = 0.557, P < 0.001). The ICC overall Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the questionnaire was 0.821, and the for test-retest reliability was 0.951 (95% CI [0.900–0.976] P < 0.001). Background: The Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score for patellofemoral pain and osteoarthritis (KOOS-PF) is a condition-specific patient-reported outcome measure that is used to evaluate patients with patellofemoral pain. Purpose: To translate the KOOS-PF into the Thai language, to make necessary adaptations to a Thai cultural context, and to assess the measurement properties of the Thai version of the KOOS-PF (TH-KOOS-PF) using the COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) checklist. Study Design: Cohort study (diagnosis); Level of evidence, 3. Methods: This study was conducted between December 2021 and May 2023. Language translation of the KOOS-PF was performed according to guidelines for the cross-cultural adaptation of self-report measures. Eligible participants aged 18 to 50 years were asked to complete various patient-reported outcome measures including the TH-KOOS-PF at 3 time points: baseline, 2 weeks after baseline for test-retest reliability analysis, and 2 months after baseline for responsiveness assessment. Results: The KOOS-PF was successfully translated and culturally adapted to create the TH-KOOS-PF. A total of 86 participants (mean age, 37.0 ± 8.1 years; 59.3% female) with patellofemoral pain participated in the validation process. Construct validity of the TH-KOOS-PF was demonstrated by confirmation of all a priori hypotheses. The standardized Cronbach alpha coefficient was 0.88 (95% CI, 0.83-0.91), which indicated good internal consistency. Test-retest reliability was high, with an intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.87 (95% CI, 0.77-0.92). The TH-KOOS-PF demonstrated good responsiveness, as evidenced by all predefined hypotheses' being confirmed, and there were no floor or ceiling effects. Using an anchor-based approach, the minimal clinically important difference was 11.6 points. Background: The Ankle Ligament Reconstruction-Return to Sport After Injury (ALR-RSI) scale can be utilized for assessing patients who have previously sustained lateral ankle ligament injury before returning to sport. Given its original development for use in different languages, it is essential to translate and validate this scale for application to the Chinese population. Purposes: To translate and culturally adapt the ALR-RSI scale into a Chinese version and assess its reliability and validity. Study Design: Cohort study (Diagnosis); Level of evidence, 2. Methods: The procedure of translation and cross-cultural adaptation was performed following the recommended guidelines and the Chinese version of ALR-RSI (ALR-RSI-CHN) was conducted in patients with lateral ankle ligament surgery. Feasibility was assessed by floor/ceiling effects. Reliability was assessed by using Cronbach α as a measure to analyze internal consistency, while the intraclass correlation coefficient was utilized to examine test-retest reliability. Validity was assessed by using Spearman coefficients to analyze the correlations between ALR-RSI-CHN, the Karlsson scale, and the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) scale. Results: A total of 66 participants were included. The ALR-RSI-CHN scale showed good feasibility with no floor/ceiling effects. The internal consistency of the scale was adequate with a Cronbach α of 0.93, and test-retest reliability was excellent with an interclass correlation coefficient of 0.97 (95% CI, 0.92-0.99). The ALR-RSI-CHN scale demonstrated moderate correlation with the Karlsson scale (r = 0.48 [ range, 0.26-0.65]) and strong correlation with the AOFAS scale (r = 0.55 [ range, 0.35-0.71]). A significant difference in ALR-RSI-CHN scores was observed between patients who returned to sports and those who did not, with respective scores of 53.60 (range, 44.50-62.69) and 42.25 (range, 35.51-49) (P =.04). Conclusion: The study demonstrated that the ALR-RSI-CHN scale had satisfactory psychometric properties, rendering it a feasible, reliable, and valid instrument for evaluating patients who have lateral ligament surgery in China. The Preference for Intuition and Deliberation in Food Decision-Making Scale (E-PID) was developed to evaluate both intuitive and deliberative food decision-making within a single instrument. However, its psychometric properties have only been assessed among German-speaking participants. The main aim of the present study was to evaluate evidence of validity and reliability of the E-PID among 604 Brazilian adult women. Exploratory (n = 289) and confirmatory factor analyses (n = 315) were conducted to evaluate the factor structure of the E-PID. Convergent validity was assessed correlating the E-PID with measures of eating behaviors (Tree-Factor Eating Questionnaire-18), intuitive eating (Intuitive Eating Scale-2), and a measure of beliefs and attitudes towards food (Food-Life Questionnaire-SF). McDonald's Omega coefficient (ω) was used to test the internal consistency of the E-PID. Results from an exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis supported a two-factor structure with seven items. We found good internal consistency (McDonald's ω = 0.77–0.81). Furthermore, the E-PID demonstrated adequate convergent validity with measures of intuitive, restrictive, emotional and uncontrolled eating, and beliefs and attitudes towards food. Results support the use of the E-PID as a measure of intuition and deliberation in food decision-making among Brazilian adult women, expanding the literature on eating decision-making styles. Background: The STarT Musculoskeletal (MSK) tool is a validated tool used to stratify patients with musculoskeletal disorder, as a guide to applying intervention and prognosticating outcomes. Only few translations and cultural adaptations of it exist. The availability of the tool in local and indigenous languages may help improve comprehensibility and usage among patients. This study was aimed to translate and cross-culturally adapt the STarT MSK tool into the Yoruba language, and to determine its psychometric properties. Methods: The first stage of this study involved translation of the English STarT MSK into the the Yoruba language following the Beaton criteria. A total of 55 respondents with low- back pain attending a University Teaching Hospital participated in the validity testing, while 25 patients responded in the reliability test of the tool. The Quadruple Visual Analogue Scale (QVAS) and the Fear Avoidance Belief Questionnaire (FABQ) were used for the convergent and the discriminant validity of the tool. Results: The mean age of the respondents was 52.13 ± 13.21 years. The Yoruba version of the STarT MSK (STarT MSK–Y) had an acceptable concurrent validity (r = 0.993; p = 0.001). The discriminant validity of STarT MSK–Y with FABQ yielded correlation co-efficient scores of r = 0.287; p = 0.034 and r = 0.033; p = 0.810 for FABQ-Work and FABQ-physical activities. The result indicated that STarT MSK–Y had fair discriminant validity with FABQ-work and a weak correlation with the FABQ-physical activities. The convergent validity of STarT MSK–Y indicated significant correlations with all domains and global score of the QVAS (r = 0.727; p = 0.001). The test- retest reliability and internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = α) of the STarT MSK–Y yielded ICC = 1.00 and α = 0.97 for the global score of the items, respectively. The factor loading for five items were satisfactory ranging from 0.46 to 0.83. Background: Neck self-awareness, related to sensorimotor dysfunction, can be monitored with the Fremantle Neck Awareness Questionnaire (FreNAQ). The cross-cultural adaptation of the FreNAQ in Greek (FreNAQ-GR) and an assessment of its psychometric properties were conducted. Methods: This study included 104 participants (65 female) with non-specific chronic neck pain (NSCNP). Once the cross-cultural adaptation process of the FreNAQ-GR was complete, the testing of its construct validity was conducted via an exploratory factor analysis (EFA). The construct validity examination also included a correlational analysis with a Pain Intensity Visual Analogue Scale (PI-VAS), the Neck Disability Index (NDI), the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK), the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), and demographics. The internal consistency of the FreNAQ-GR was also examined. A sub-sample of participants (n = 30) completed the FreNAQ-GR again after 5–7 days. Results: The dataset was appropriate for EFA (measure of sampling adequacy KMO = 0.763 and Bartlett's test of sphericity p < 0.001). The FreNAQ-GR demonstrated a single-factor 6-item structure (items 7–9 removed), explaining 53.69% of the common variance. Statistically significant correlations (Spearman's) were registered between the FreNAQ-GR (both versions) and the NDI (r = 0.33/0.29, p < 0.001), the TSK (r = 0.46/0.41, p < 0.001), and the PCS (r = 0.37/0.33, p < 0.001). For the 9-item and the 6-item FreNAQ-GR, the internal consistency (Chronbach's a/McDonald's ω) was 0.80/0.79 and 0.826/0.816, respectively. Transformational leadership has become an essential aspect of life skills integrated into a learning activity. At the same time, the tools for evaluating transformational leadership in the context of sports students in Indonesia still need to be improved. This study aims to adapt the global transformational leadership scale (GTLS) into the Indonesian version constructed from seven potential behaviors (vision, staff development, supportive, empowerment innovative, lead by example and charismatic). Testing content validity uses nine raters from various disciplines. Construct validity uses 297 students and concurrent validity by correlating GTLS scores with the leadership practices inventory (LPI). The data were analyzed using the Aiken formula, factor analysis, Pearson, and Cronbach's alpha with the help of the SPSS-AMOS. The result was that the seven adapted GTLS items met the Aiken validity parameter=0.74-0.96, construct validity (discriminant index=0.59-0.70; factor loading=0.63-0.77; p-value=0.000; RMR=0.013; GFI=0.961; TLI=0.952, CFI=0.968; RMSEA=0.080), concurrent validity (r=0.467), and reliability parameters=0.87. Thus, the Indonesian version of GTLS is valid and reliable for measuring transformational leadership in sports student culture. However, GTLS only facilitates members' perceptions of their group leaders, so it is necessary to develop a GTLS scale oriented towards students perceiving their transformational leadership. Traditional sending countries of international students in East Asia have emerged as increasingly desirable higher education destinations. Yet little is known about the experiences of international students in East Asia as most research focuses on those in the Anglophone West. In this study, we explored the trajectory and interactions between intercultural communication, acculturation strategies, and adaptation outcomes of international students in Hong Kong. We conducted in-depth interviews with international students from other Asian countries (n = 14) and Western countries (n = 10). Our research reveals a paradox where international students’ eagerness to engage with diverse peers is overshadowed by limited interaction with local students. Cultural and language differences were perceived to create a wall separating them from the local students, inhibiting a cosmopolitan learning environment. Additionally, international students often gravitate towards familiar national or cultural groups, which can hinder broader integration. Sociocultural challenges and outsider feelings were also reported, potentially leading to psychological issues. We propose an interactive framework that connects intercultural communication, acculturation strategies, and adaptation outcomes. The paper offers theoretical and practical insights for policymakers, administrators, educators, and students, aiming to foster effective communication and successful acculturation in a multilingual and multicultural educational setting. Background: The EQ-5D-Y is a generic preference-weighted measure for children and adolescents which was developed within Europe. Two versions exist, the EQ-5D-Y-3L (Y-3L) and EQ-5D-Y-5L (Y-5L). This study aimed to cross-culturally adapt the Y-3L and Y-5L for use in Singapore and to assess the content validity, specifically, the relevance and comprehensiveness of the EQ-5D-Y descriptive system (DS) in Asia. Methods: To culturally adapt the instruments, an expert panel consisting of paediatricians and primary school educators were consulted. Modifications suggested by the expert panel were tested via cognitive debriefing interviews with children aged 8–12 in Singapore. To assess the content validity of the EQ-5D-Y DS, interviews were conducted with both healthy (n = 8) and ill children (n = 6) aged 8–15. In the interviews, children discussed their experience with poor health and commented on the comprehensiveness and relevance of the EQ-5D-Y DS. Results: The cross-cultural adaptation process led to minor modifications to the UK English Y-3L and Y-5L versions, including using phrases familiar to the local children and adding examples to facilitate understanding. The five health dimensions in the EQ-5D-Y DS were spontaneously elicited when children discussed their experience with poor health. All health dimensions related to poor health elicited from the interviews fell into three broad categories: physical health (e.g. Appetite, Mobility, and Sleep), mental well-being (e.g. Annoyed/Frustrated and Scared/Worried), and social relationships (e.g. Family and Friends). The EQ-5D-Y DS was generally found to be relevant and comprehensive, although some health dimensions that may be relevant to the local population (Social relationship and Appetite) were not covered. Conclusions: The UK English EQ-5D-Y instruments were adapted to produce the Singapore English EQ-5D-Y instrument that were comprehensible to local children as young as 8 years old. The EQ-5D-Y DS was generally relevant and comprehensive to measure poor health of local children. Background: The Sexual Health Scale (QLQ-SH22) is the only cancer-specific measure of sexual health. It has never been translated into Arabic. In order to envisage effective healthcare strategies that improve sexual quality of life, the validation of the Moroccan version of this scale is a crucial step in exploring the influence of cancer and its treatment on patients in the Moroccan context. In this regard, this study aimed to validate a Moroccan Arabic version among patients with cancer. Method: A total of 280 Moroccan patients with cancer participated in this study from August 2022 to April 2023. The translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the QLQ-SH22 was performed following the EORTC guidelines. Psychometric validation was explored using the reliability of internal consistency, test–retest reliability, and confirmatory factor analyses (CFA). Results: The analysis revealed a greater internal consistency for both sexual satisfaction (α = 0.83) and sexual pain (α = 0.86). The intraclass correlation coefficient indicated an excellent level of test–retest reliability (from 0.925 to 0.993). The CFA demonstrated high-performing model fit indices (χ2/df = 1.17, SRMR = 0.05, RMSEA = 0.035, GFI = 0.94, CFI = 0.99, TLI = 0.99, IFI = 0.99, NFI = 0.94). The concurrent validity between the QLQ-C30 and QLQ-SH22 confirmed a strong correlation between the fatigue scales in both questionnaires (r = 0.69). This version showed good discrimination between known groups. Background: The PedsQL™ 4.0 Generic Core Scales (GSC) have been translated into over 60 languages, but use in the sub-Saharan African region is limited. This study aimed to cross-culturally adapt and validate the PedsQL™ 4.0 GCS child self-report and teen self-report versions into the Chichewa language for Malawi. Methods: The English (USA) versions were adapted (translation, back translation and cognitive interviews to evaluate conceptual equivalence) into Chichewa. We recruited 289 children (8–17 years) in Blantyre, Malawi. Classical psychometrics at the item level (missing data, endorsement frequencies, item redundancy) and scale level (internal consistency, convergent, discriminant and known groups validity) was used to evaluate the new Chichewa versions. Results: Six items were found to need cultural adaptation for Malawi. There were problems with missing data (< 5%) and adjacent endorsement frequency (< 10%) among younger children. Internal consistency reliability was acceptable (Cronbach α > 0.7). Convergent validity was generally strong (correlations > 0.4). Discriminant validity (p > 0.05) was evident with respect to gender and age, but not for school grade (p < 0.05). Effect sizes indicating known groups validity were in the expected direction but of variable magnitude. Conclusion: We have successfully adapted the PedsQL™ 4.0 GCS child self-report and teen self-report into Chichewa for use in Malawi. Many aspects of the psychometric evaluation were promising, though some elements were more mixed and we have not yet been able to evaluate test-retest reliability or responsiveness. Background: Physical activity (PA) plays a critical role in preventing non-communicable diseases, and maintaining the overall health and well-being of adults. PA surveillance has become a global concern leading to the development of numerous surveys for its measurement. Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ) merges the advantages of both the short and long versions of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) by incorporating various domains (work, transport, and leisure time), while still maintaining a significantly shorter length. This study aimed to cross-culturally adapt the original English version of GPAQ to the Igbo culture and environment. Methods: The original version of GPAQ (GPAQ) was translated, synthesized, back-translated, and subjected to expert panel review before producing the final Igbo version of the GPAQ (GPAQ-I). The GPAQ and GPAQ-I were administered to 155 community-dwelling adults (36.1% males and 63.9% females) living in Nnewi who were recruited consecutively. The data obtained was analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean, standard deviations, Spearman rank order test, and Mann-Whitney U test with p-value set at 0.05. Results: There was no significant difference in the scores on the English and Igbo versions of the GPAQ (p < 0.001). The correlations between the corresponding domains and total scores on both versions of the GPAQ (rho = 1.0)showed excellent concurrent agreement. Conclusion: The successfully adapted GPAQ-I demonstrated a strong agreement with the original English version. Background: The Osteoarthritis Knowledge Scale (OAKS) is a validated tool for assessing knowledge about hip and knee osteoarthritis (OA). However, to date, there has been no translation and adaptation of the OAKS for the Turkish population. Objectives: To translate and cross‐culturally adapt the OAKS into Turkish and to assess its psychometric properties in the Turkish population with and without hip or knee OA. Methods: The OAKS was translated following accepted guidelines. A validation study assessed internal consistency, test–retest reliability and measurement error. An exploratory factor analysis was conducted to assess the factor structure. Results: A total of 278 participants (n = 70 with hip OA, n = 105 with knee OA, and n = 103 without OA) were included. Internal consistency was 0.72, 0.79 and 0.79 for participants with hip OA, knee OA, and no OA, respectively. The test–retest intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.72 (95% CI; 0.45–0.85), 0.89 (95% CI; 0.82–0.93) and 0.88 (95% CI; 0.79–0.93) for participants with hip OA, knee OA and no OA, respectively. It had three principal components accounting for 57.2% of the total variance. Conclusions: The Turkish version of the OAKS is a reliable and valid tool for measuring OA knowledge in the Turkish population, including those with and without hip and knee OA. Test–retest reliability was below acceptable levels in the population with hip OA only. Therefore, we recommend that the ICC be interpreted with caution when used in this population. Introduction and Hypothesis: The objective was to cross-culturally adapt and check for the reliability, internal consistency, and validity of the Nocturia Quality of Life Questionnaire (N-QoL) in Brazilian Portuguese (N-QoL-Br). Methods: The questionnaire was translated according to international guidelines, included forward-translation, back-translation, and consensus among an expert committee. Participants with nocturia completed the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Overactive Bladder, and the General Quality of Life Assessment Questionnaire SF-36 (Medical Outcomes Study 36–Item Short-Form Health Survey), in addition to the N-QoL-Br. The Brazilian version was applied in men and women with nocturia twice within a range of 4 weeks. Psychometric properties such as content validity, construct validity, internal consistency, and test–retest reliability were tested. Results: Content validity was considered adequate. Eighty-four men and women participated in the study. Good internal consistency in the domains and final score of the N-QoL-Br was observed, with Cronbach α greater than 0.9. The test–retest reliability was also high, with an intraclass correlation coefficient greater than 0.9 for the domain sleep/energy, bother/concern, and total score (0.98, 0.98, and 0.97 respectively). Conclusions: The Portuguese version of the N-QoL-Br presents good internal consistency and reproducibility and it can be considered adequate and valid for evaluating the impact of nocturia on the quality of life of men and women in the Brazilian population. One of the crucial factors in changing behaviour towards pro‐environmental actions is climate change perception. The latest measurement tool for assessing this variable is the Climate Change Perception Scale (CCPS). However, CCPS has not gained widespread adoption and usage across different cultures, including Indonesia, and no analyses have been conducted to adapt and validate CCPS in the Indonesian context. Therefore, this study aimed to adapt, validate, and assess the measurement tool's consistency in Indonesia's cultural context. To investigate the instrument's psychometric properties, two studies (n = 358, 415) were conducted in Indonesia to provide evidence of the internal consistency, convergent validity, and predictive validity of CCPS. The results of a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) showed that the Indonesian version of CCPS, which consists of 15 items, with three for each dimension, accurately and reliably measured perception of climate change. CCPS also demonstrated good convergent validity, as indicated by the significant correlations with a nature relatedness (r = 0.425, p < 0.01) and biospheric value (r = 0.341, p < 0.01) construct. Furthermore, it exhibited predictive validity by predicting pro‐environmental behaviour, β = 0.243, b = 0.176, t(413) = 5.10, p < 0.01. However, the Indonesian version of CCPS still needs to be tested and confirmed through various studies, considering the poor validity of the temporal dimension and the weak factor loading of the consequence dimension in Study 2. Background: It is important to map the clinical competence of newly graduated nurses in Nordic countries. The use of a common Nordic instrument could provide insights into nurses' levels of self‐assessed clinical competence and perceptions of their need for professional development. Aim: To translate and culturally adapt the original Norwegian version of the Professional Nurse Self‐Assessment Scale II (PROFFNurse SAS II) into (1) Danish, (2) Finnish and (3) Icelandic versions. Method: The PROFFNurse SAS II was translated and cross‐culturally adapted. This translation was inspired by the process used in the Guidelines for Cross‐Cultural Adaptation. Result: The translation and cultural adaptation processes employed the required steps and provided specific details. In addition, practical issues encountered during the translation process while translating and adapting instruments that may influence future translations were revealed. This study found that having a professional bilingual/bicultural agency translator was partly problematic in the process of translation and found that it is important to adjust the translations to each country's specific words used in nursing. Conclusion: Translating the PROFFNurse SAS II instrument into all Nordic languages enables us to use the instrument from a Nordic perspective and across various countries. This is important when comparing self‐awareness and reflecting on nurses' clinical competencies. Purpose: The Injustice Experience Questionnaire (IEQ) gauges the extent to which individuals with chronic pain perceive feelings of injustice concerning their pain. The study's objective was to assess the feasibility, absolute and relative reliability, as well as the convergent and construct validity of the Greek version of the IEQ. Methods: A cross-cultural adaptation of the IEQ in Greek was carried out according to the published guidelines. Ninety patients with chronic pain and 44 healthy participants completed the IEQ-GR, the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). A subset of 36 volunteers completed the IEQ-GR twice over 1 week. Results: The ICC was calculated at 0.98 for IEQ-total and 0.83–0.96 for all items. The Cronbach's a was estimated at 0.98 for IEQ-total and 0.91–0.98 for all items. The SEM ranged from 0.20 to 1.63 and the SDC was 0.36–2.62 for all items. Positive and significant correlations between IEQ-GR and PCS (r = 0.59, p < 0.01), HADS (r = 0.58, p < 0.01), HADS depression (r = 0.50, p < 0.01), and HADS anxiety (r = 0.55, p < 0.01), were found. There was a statistically significant difference in IEQ between the patient and control groups. Conclusions: The IEQ-GR demonstrated excellent reliability, internal consistency, convergent and discriminant validity in a Greek population. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Perceived Injustice (PI) poses a risk factor for treatment ineffectiveness, significantly impacting disability and return-to-work outcomes. The objective of this study was to culturally adapt the Thriving of Older People Assessment Scale (TOPAS) instrument and evaluate its psychometric properties. The study was carried out in two phases: cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric validation and refinement through a cross-sectional study conducted between 2018 and 2020 with 314 participants. The refinement resulted in an abbreviated version of TOPAS, maintaining the original 5 factors with 16 items. Cronbach alpha was 0.91. Composite reliability (0.72–0.89) and average variance extracted (0.57–0.81), supporting discriminant validity. Maximum shared variance for the factors (0.22–0.50) and average shared variance (0.16–0.31), demonstrating discriminant validity. The abbreviated version of TOPAS showed evidence of being a valid and reliable instrument for measuring the adaptability of elderly residents in institutions. Implementing this instrument in Spanish nursing homes allows for a continuous evaluation of residents' well-being in relation to their environment, a construct not previously assessed with available scales. To make a cross-cultural adaptation of the National Early Warning Score 2 (NEWS 2) from English to Angolan Portuguese. A methodological research of cross-cultural adaptation was conducted, involving sequential stages of forward translation, translation synthesis, back-translation, and the application of the Delphi Panel methodology for analyzing semantic, idiomatic, experiential, and conceptual equivalence between the translated and the original versions. This process culminated in the development of a pre-final version, which subsequently underwent testing in a cohort of nurses (n = 37). The Intraclass Correlation Coefficient was calculated to assess inter-rater reliability of ratings. Cronbach's alpha was used for evaluating the internal consistency and reliability within the items of the NEWS 2 score. The cross-cultural adaptation process allowed us to prepare the final version of this tool. The data collected during the testing phase facilitated the examination of inter-rater reliability of ratings and the internal consistency and reliability within the items of the NEWS2 score. The Intraclass Correlation Coefficient observed at this step was 0.992. The Cronbach's alpha was 0.993. The objectives of this study were to translate the Athlete Sleep Screening Questionnaire (ASSQ) into a simplified Chinese version (ASSQ-CHN) and test its properties. Using a methodological study, a total of 160 elite athletes participated, and 133 athletes completed the experiment. Statistical results show the following: (1) a total of 4 factors were obtained by using exploratory factor analysis conducted on the ASSQ-CHN (sleep difficulty score, travel impact, sleep behaviour and habit, and electronic device use before bedtime). The sleep difficulty score (SDS) part consisted of items 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6. (2) the SDS showed adequate internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.74), as well as test-retest reliability (ICC2,1 = 0.79, 95% CI 0.72–0.85), standard error of measurement = 1.37 points and minimum detectable change = 3.24 points, with no floor or ceiling effects. This suggests that the real change in ASSQ-CHN (SDS) score should be over 3.24 points and the measurement tool can distinguish between subjects with the highest or lowest scores. (3) the SDS was strongly correlated with the PSQI (rs = 0.74, P < 0.01). The correlation between SDS and SF-36 was only moderately correlated with general health (rs = −0.33, P < 0.01), and there was low or no significant correlation with other items. (4) the ASSQ-CHN (SDS) mean score of the sleep disorder group was significantly higher than that of the healthy groups (P < 0.01). The ASSQ-CHN is equivalent to the original version in terms of language and measurement properties. BACKGROUND: Accurate assessment tools for work rehabilitation are essential in healthcare settings. Adapting the Work Rehabilitation Questionnaire (WORQ) to Arabic-speaking populations ensures effective evaluation and intervention for individuals with work-related disabilities. OBJECTIVE: To execute a cross-cultural adaptation of interview-administered version Work Rehabilitation Questionnaire –Arabic (WORQ-A) and assess the psychometric properties of WORQ-A in patients with musculoskeletal problems. METHODS: WORQ is mainly intended to assess the work functioning of persons who are involved in vocational rehabilitation. Psychometric properties were scrutinized in the outpatient rehabilitation center. Test–retest reliability was examined with intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), and internal consistency was evaluated with Cronbach's alpha. The usability of WORQ-A was established in 46 patients with musculoskeletal problems. RESULTS: WORQ-A exhibited exceptional internal consistency (0.93) and a great test–retest reliability (0.87). Regarding usability, the ability to understand the questions and answer choices was established as good. Five percent of the participants encountered minor difficulties with certain words, while the majority found it quite straightforward to choose the correct answers. CONCLUSIONS: The WORQ-A is an effective, consistent, and very easy to administer questionnaire to assess the work-related functions assumed in our study context and the individualities of the sample. Abstract Background Trauma is a prevalent issue in public health, where individuals who experience physical injuries are also at risk of compromised mental health. Psychological resilience is considered a positive indicator that can predict the prognosis of trauma patients throughout their traumatic experiences. Currently, there is a lack of tools in China for measuring the psychological resilience of trauma patients. The aim of this study was to translate and cross-culturally adapt the Trauma Resiliency Scale (tRS-18) into Chinese and to test its reliability and validity in China. Methods The Trauma Resiliency Scale (tRS-18) was translated into a Chinese version suitable for the Chinese language environment using the Brislin translation model. A convenience sampling method was used to select 588 trauma patients as study subjects. Reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, 14-day test-retest reliability, and split-half reliability. Validity was examined through the content validity index, structural validity, and convergent validity. Structural validity was specifically evaluated through exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Results The total variance explained by the single-factor model in the exploratory factor analysis (EFA) of the Chinese version of the tRS-18 was 62.048%, and the factor loading of each item exceeded 0.4. The results of the CFA indicated that the model demonstrated a favorable fit index (X2/df = 1.620; RMSEA = 0.046; SRMR = 0.026; NFI = 0.945; CFI = 0.978; GFI = 0.927; TLI = 0.975; IFI = 0.978). The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of the reliability index was 0.963, the test-retest reliability was 0.970, and the split-half reliability was 0.964, which were all within the reference value range. Conclusion The Chinese version of the tRS-18 has good validity and reliability and can be used as an assessment tool for trauma resilience in trauma patients.

Abstract Background Sleep disturbances are associated with decreased quality of life, increased use of healthcare resources, and poor mood. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) is a standardised questionnaire that was created to help measure sleep quality and to alert medical professionals to the need for additional evaluation of patients exhibiting sleep-related complaints in seven domains based on the previous month. The non-availability of the Igbo version can affect its effective use among Igbo speakers in Southeast Nigeria. Aim To translate and cross-culturally adapt the PSQI scale to the Igbo Culture and Environment among Igbo language speakers in Southeast Nigeria using established guidelines. Method The PSQI was translated, combined, back-translated, and reviewed by an expert panel, leading to the development of the final Igbo version (I-PSQI). A sample size of 100 was calculated using G-power, and the PSQI and I-PSQI were distributed to 100 apparently healthy adults (40% males and 60% females) recruited conveniently in Otolo Nnewi, Nigeria. The data were analysed using frequency counts, percentages, means, standard deviations, Spearman rank order tests, Cronbach’s alpha, and principal component analysis (PCA). Psychological safety has recently emerged as a central construct, strictly implicated in mental health and emotional well-being. The Neuroception of Psychological Safety Scale (NPSS) is the first scale designed to assess feelings of psychological safety from a multidimensional perspective. However, the robustness of its factorial structure requires further examination in large community samples, and evidence of construct validity along with measurement invariance across genders is scarce. The present study aimed to address these gaps through a comprehensive cross-validation approach. A community sample of 660 Italian adults, aged 18–65, completed self-report questionnaires including the NPSS, the Compassionate Engagement and Action Scale (CEAS), the Sussex-Oxford Compassion for Others (SOCS), and the Body Perception Questionnaire (BPQ). A three-factor model, i.e., Social Engagement, Compassion, and Bodily Sensations, demonstrated a good fit to the data in two random subsamples. Moreover, the measurement model was factorially invariant across genders. Model-based omega coefficients supported the internal consistency of the NPSS scores (ω ranged between 0.879 and 0.918). Zero-order correlations between NPSS subscales and CEAS, SOCS, and BPQ provided construct validity evidence. Additionally, inter-correlations between latent factors and Harman’s single-factor test supported the discriminant validity of the NPSS dimensions. Overall, this study provided compelling evidence regarding the psychometric properties of the NPSS, demonstrating for the first time the invariance of its factorial structure across gender.

The number of standardised tools is increasing day by day, and the demand for the development of novel and standardised tools is very high. One major reason for this demand is that either standardised tools are not available, or existing tools are not capable of measuring outcomes properly due to a lack of reliability and validity in specific settings. It has been noted that many researchers are not aware of the process of tool development, such as how to conduct a literature review, translate standardised tools, perform cross-cultural adaptations, create shortened versions of existing standardised tools, and construct new tools based on specific diseases. The objective of present review paper is to outline various techniques used in the development of tools and the psychometric testing of these tools. It explores the steps and processes needed to develop a valid, appropriate, and reliable tool that can be used by practitioners. It aimed to assist nurses and researchers in developing Quality of Life (QoL) tools based on their clinical settings and experiences. The common steps in the tool development process include in-depth interviews, item pool generation, and reliability checking. The tool must also include various forms of validity, such as face, concurrent, and content validity, for its development. Additionally, construct validity and factor analysis, including principal component analysis, are essential components of the process.

Abstract Background The STarT Musculoskeletal (MSK) tool is a validated tool used to stratify patients with musculoskeletal disorder, as a guide to applying intervention and prognosticating outcomes. Only few translations and cultural adaptations of it exist. The availability of the tool in local and indigenous languages may help improve comprehensibility and usage among patients. This study was aimed to translate and cross-culturally adapt the STarT MSK tool into the Yoruba language, and to determine its psychometric properties. Methods The first stage of this study involved translation of the English STarT MSK into the the Yoruba language following the Beaton criteria. A total of 55 respondents with low- back pain attending a University Teaching Hospital participated in the validity testing, while 25 patients responded in the reliability test of the tool. The Quadruple Visual Analogue Scale (QVAS) and the Fear Avoidance Belief Questionnaire (FABQ) were used for the convergent and the discriminant validity of the tool. Results The mean age of the respondents was 52.13 ± 13.21 years. The Yoruba version of the STarT MSK (STarT MSK–Y) had an acceptable concurrent validity (r = 0.993; p = 0.001). The discriminant validity of STarT MSK–Y with FABQ yielded correlation co-efficient scores of r = 0.287; p = 0.034 and r = 0.033; p = 0.810 for FABQ-Work and FABQ-physical activities. The result indicated that STarT MSK–Y had fair discriminant validity with FABQ-work and a weak correlation with the FABQ-physical activities. The convergent validity of STarT MSK–Y indicated significant correlations with all domains and global score of the QVAS (r = 0.727; p = 0.001). The test- retest reliability and internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = α) of the STarT MSK–Y yielded ICC = 1.00 and α = 0.97 for the global score of the items, respectively. The factor loading for five items were satisfactory ranging from 0.46 to 0.83. Conclusion The STarT MSK–Y has acceptable validity and reliability and can be used as a valid assessment tool among Yoruba- speaking patients with low back pain.

Background. Patients’ preoperative expectations are one of the most significant factors affecting the satisfaction rates after organ-preserving surgeries performed in the hip area. To date, there are no validated Russian-language methods to assess the expectations from hip preservation surgeries. The aim of the study is — to carry out cross-cultural adaptation of the Hip preservation surgery expectations survey, as well as to assess the validity of its Russian version. Methods. In order to preserve validity of the survey, we carried out its cross-cultural adaptation including forward translation, back translation, and pilot testing (pretesting). Validity of the final Russian-language version was assessed by interviewing 40 patients, which underwent hip joint arthroscopy due to femoroacetabular impingement. Results. Cronbach’s α has accounted for 0.945, indicating a high level of internal consistency. Intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) has amounted to 0.82 (95% CI: 0.56-0.93), which corresponds to good correlation and demonstrates retest reliability. The “ceiling” and “floor” effects have not been detected. Conclusions. The Russian version of the Hip preservation surgery expectations survey is a useful and simple tool to assess preoperative expectations of patients with diseases of the hip joint. The survey makes it possible to structure and document the expectations and may be used in clinical practice and scientific studies.

Abstract Background The EQ-5D-Y is a generic preference-weighted measure for children and adolescents which was developed within Europe. Two versions exist, the EQ-5D-Y-3L (Y-3L) and EQ-5D-Y-5L (Y-5L). This study aimed to cross-culturally adapt the Y-3L and Y-5L for use in Singapore and to assess the content validity, specifically, the relevance and comprehensiveness of the EQ-5D-Y descriptive system (DS) in Asia. Methods To culturally adapt the instruments, an expert panel consisting of paediatricians and primary school educators were consulted. Modifications suggested by the expert panel were tested via cognitive debriefing interviews with children aged 8–12 in Singapore. To assess the content validity of the EQ-5D-Y DS, interviews were conducted with both healthy (n = 8) and ill children (n = 6) aged 8–15. In the interviews, children discussed their experience with poor health and commented on the comprehensiveness and relevance of the EQ-5D-Y DS. Results The cross-cultural adaptation process led to minor modifications to the UK English Y-3L and Y-5L versions, including using phrases familiar to the local children and adding examples to facilitate understanding. The five health dimensions in the EQ-5D-Y DS were spontaneously elicited when children discussed their experience with poor health. All health dimensions related to poor health elicited from the interviews fell into three broad categories: physical health (e.g. Appetite, Mobility, and Sleep), mental well-being (e.g. Annoyed/Frustrated and Scared/Worried), and social relationships (e.g. Family and Friends). The EQ-5D-Y DS was generally found to be relevant and comprehensive, although some health dimensions that may be relevant to the local population (Social relationship and Appetite) were not covered. Conclusions The UK English EQ-5D-Y instruments were adapted to produce the Singapore English EQ-5D-Y instrument that were comprehensible to local children as young as 8 years old. The EQ-5D-Y DS was generally relevant and comprehensive to measure poor health of local children. Future studies should ascertain the benefits of adding bolt-on items related to social relationships and appetite to the EQ-5D-Y DS.

Abstract Background The PedsQL™ 4.0 Generic Core Scales (GSC) have been translated into over 60 languages, but use in the sub-Saharan African region is limited. This study aimed to cross-culturally adapt and validate the PedsQL™ 4.0 GCS child self-report and teen self-report versions into the Chichewa language for Malawi. Methods The English (USA) versions were adapted (translation, back translation and cognitive interviews to evaluate conceptual equivalence) into Chichewa. We recruited 289 children (8–17 years) in Blantyre, Malawi. Classical psychometrics at the item level (missing data, endorsement frequencies, item redundancy) and scale level (internal consistency, convergent, discriminant and known groups validity) was used to evaluate the new Chichewa versions. Results Six items were found to need cultural adaptation for Malawi. There were problems with missing data ( 0.7). Convergent validity was generally strong (correlations > 0.4). Purpose – Educational design patterns offer practical strategies that can be shared and adapted to address problems in teaching and learning. This article explores how educational design patterns for connected learning at scale at an Australian university may be adapted to a Vietnamese higher education context. Design/methodology/approach – 12 educational design patterns that address the challenges of active learning and large teaching team management are discussed. The authors then critically reflect on their cross-cultural adaptation for the higher education context, from an Australian to a Vietnamese university. Findings – Transitioning from passive to active learning strategies and effectively leading large teaching teams present similar challenges across our contexts. Educational design patterns, when dynamically adapted, may assist educators to teach skills that are critical for work and the future. Higher education institutions globally could enhance their practices by incorporating international best practice approaches to educational design. Practical implications – The Connected Learning at Scale (CLaS) educational design patterns explored in this article offer solution-oriented strategies that promote a more active learning experience. This paper identifies adaptations for educators, especially those in Vietnamese higher education that respect traditional structures, cultural nuances and resource limitations in implementation. Originality/value – Whilst educational design patterns are well-researched in the Western contexts, few studies analyse design patterns in an Asian, and in particular the Vietnamese context. More research is needed in the cross-cultural adaptation of educational design patterns that joins practice and theory.

Resumen: Antecedentes y objetivo: Las medidas de resultado reportadas por el paciente (PROM) son herramientas de interés creciente en la población deportiva. El propósito de este estudio fue realizar la adaptación transcultural y análisis de confiabilidad del 4-Domain Sports Patient-Reported Outcome Measure (4DSP) al español. Métodos: Se ejecutó un protocolo de adaptación transcultural en seis etapas para obtener la versión en español del 4DSP (S-4DSP). Posteriormente, se aplicó el cuestionario a una población de 108 deportistas posoperados de reconstrucción de ligamento cruzado anterior (RLCA). Se aplicó nuevamente el cuestionario luego de 30 días. Se evaluó la aceptabilidad, efecto piso y techo, consistencia interna (alfa de Cronbach) y reproducibilidad (correlación intraclase). Resultados: La S-4DSP fue respondida completamente por 108 participantes (edad media 34 ± 10,75, 26% mujeres) alcanzando una aceptabilidad de 100%. No se detectó efecto piso. El análisis estadístico entregó un alfa de Cronbach global para el cuestionario de 0,65, y desagregado por dominios de 0,88, 0,72, 0,27, 0,68 para el primer, segundo, tercer y cuarto dominio, respectivamente. El estudio de correlación intraclase alcanzó un máximo de 0,94 y un mínimo de 0,48 en la primera y quinta preguntas, respectivamente. Conclusión: El S-4DSP es una herramienta confiable y útil para evaluar deportistas de habla hispana posterior a una RLCA. The purpose of this study was to perform the cross-cultural adaptation and reliability analysis of the 4 Domain Sports Patient-Reported Outcome Measure (4 DSP) into Spanish. Methods: A six-stage cross-cultural adaptation protocol was executed to obtain the Spanish version of the 4 DSP (S-4DSP). Subsequently, the questionnaire was administered to a population of 108 postoperative athletes with ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) injuries. The questionnaire was administered again after 30 days. Acceptability, floor and ceiling effects, internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha), and reproducibility (Intraclass Correlation) were evaluated. Results: The S-4DSP was fully completed by 108 participants (mean age 34 ± 10.75, 26% women), achieving 100% acceptability. No floor effect was detected. The statistical analysis yielded a global Cronbach's alpha for the questionnaire of 0.65, and domain-specific alphas of 0.88, 0.72, 0.27, and 0.68 for the first, second, third, and fourth domains, respectively. The Intraclass Correlation test reached a maximum of 0.94 and a minimum of 0.48 for the first and fifth questions, respectively. Conclusions: The S-4DSP is a reliable and useful tool for evaluating Spanish-speaking athletes after ACL reconstruction.

Objective: To make a cross-cultural adaptation of the National Early Warning Score 2 (NEWS 2) from English to Angolan Portuguese. Methods: A methodological research of cross-cultural adaptation was conducted, involving sequential stages of forward translation, translation synthesis, back-translation, and the application of the Delphi Panel methodology for analyzing semantic, idiomatic, experiential, and conceptual equivalence between the translated and the original versions. This process culminated in the development of a pre-final version, which subsequently underwent testing in a cohort of nurses (n = 37). The Assessment of Physical Activity in Frail Older People (APAFOP) is a patient-reported outcome measure assessing physical activity among community-dwelling older adults. However, this instrument has not been verified in the Chinese context. Thus, we translated the APAFOP into Chinese and then linguistically validated the Chinese version of APAFOP (APAFOP-C) by following the guidelines developed by Beaton and Willis. The translation process took 6 months. We identified nine translation issues in the translation process, of which experiential equivalence issues were the most frequent. It took three rounds of cognitive interviews to achieve linguistic validity, and the most significant issues were related to the layout of the questionnaire identified during the cognitive interview. In conclusion, the items of the APAFOP-C were considered comprehensive and relevant to assessing the physical activities of frail older adults in China. ObjectiveThis study reports on a translation of the Menstrual Symptom Questionnaire (MSQ) into Chinese, a cross-cultural adaptation among Chinese women of reproductive age, and an assessment of its reliability and validity.MethodsPreviously published translation guidelines were followed to translate and cross-culturally adapt the English version of MSQ to produce a Chinese version. This Chinese version was then administered to 2800 Chinese women of reproductive age recruited by convenience sampling method. The reliability of the Chinese MSQ was tested for internal consistency and test-retest reliability. The concurrent and construct validity of the questionnaire was evaluated using correlation and factor analysis.ResultsThe Chinese version of the MSQ showed no linguistic or semantic issues. The internal consistency of the Chinese MSQ Cronbach'α = 0.912, and the test-retest reliability r = 0.911. The exploratory factor analysis identified four factors. The confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated that the four factor structure of the Chinese version of the MSQ (Pain Experience, Emotional Changes, Pain Coping Strategies, and Other Physical Symptoms) is reasonable among Chinese women of reproductive age. There was a significant correlation found between these four factors and both the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and the SF-8 Health Survey.ConclusionThe Chinese version of the MSQ achieved semantic equivalence in translation and demonstrated good reliability and validity among Chinese women of reproductive age. Thus, it can serve as an effective tool to assess the experience of menstrual symptoms among Chinese women.
