Abstract

We study sampling and interpolation arrays with multiplicities for the spaces P_k of holomorphic polynomials of degree at most k. We find that the geometric conditions satisfied by these arrays are in accordance with the conditions satisfied by the sampling and interpolating sequences with unbounded multiplicities in the Fock space, which can be seen as a limiting case of the space P_k as k tends to infinity.

Abstract

This article explores the dynamic influence of computational entities based on multi-agent systems theory (SMA) combined with large language models (LLM), which are characterized by their ability to simulate complex human interactions, as a possibility to revolutionize human user interaction from the use of specialized artificial agents to support everything from operational organizational processes to strategic decision making based on applied knowledge and human orchestration. Previous investigations reveal that there are limitations, particularly in the autonomous approach of artificial agents, especially when dealing with new challenges and pragmatic tasks such as inducing logical reasoning and problem solving. It is also considered that traditional techniques, such as the stimulation of chains of thoughts, require explicit human guidance. In our approach we employ agents developed from large language models (LLM), each with distinct prototyping that considers behavioral elements, driven by strategies that stimulate the generation of knowledge based on the use case proposed in the scenario (role-play) business, using a discussion approach between agents (guided conversation). We demonstrate the potential of developing agents useful for organizational strategies, based on multi-agent system theories (SMA) and innovative uses based on large language models (LLM based), offering a differentiated and adaptable experiment to different applications, complexities, domains, and capabilities from LLM.

Abstract

Incirrate octopodes are the only cephalopods that exhibit transient epidermal structures called Kolliker's organs (KO) in the early development stages. This work describes for the first time the histological formation process of these organs during embryonic development and of the paralarva of Octopus huhbsorum Berry, 1953, as well as their morphological characteristics. Egg masses were collected in the Gulf of California and the species was identified by molecular analysis. The histological formation of KO starts when the funnel is fully developed and ends when the embryo is ready for hatching. Differences were observed compared with the only complete histological description of KO currently available. In O. huhbsorum, the basal membrane wraps the basal and lateral cells until the KO erupts, and the cell conformation of KO (binding with muscle cells) is completed when the mantle covers the ventral margin of the funnel and chromatophores are visible. The KO of O. huhbsorum are of intermediate size and show a higher density compared with other species, especially in the arms. The cellular degradation of KO is reported here for the first time; KO disappears within 48 h posthatching, contrary to observations reported for other species in which these organs last more than 30 days, even before settlement. It is concluded that in this species, KO probably facilitate hatching or are an evolutionary reminiscence, and it is ruled out that they facilitate buoyancy before settlement. Abstract

Biomedical Natural Language Processing (NLP) tends to become cumbersome for most researchers, frequently due to the amount and heterogeneity of text to be processed. To address this challenge, the industry is continuously developing highly efficient tools and creating more flexible engineering solutions. This work presents the integration between industry data engineering solutions for efficient data processing and academic systems developed for Named Entity Recognition (LasigeUnicage\_NER) and Relation Extraction (BiOnt). Our design reflects an integration of those components with external knowledge in the form of additional training data from other datasets and biomedical ontologies. We used this pipeline in the 2022 LitCoin NLP Challenge, where our team LasigeUnicage was awarded the 7th Prize out of approximately 200 participating teams, reflecting a successful collaboration between the academia (LASIGE) and the industry (Unicage). Abstract

Internet ha transformado la forma en que interactuamos y accedemos a los medios de comunicación, relegando a medios tradicionales como la radio, los periódicos y la televisión a un papel secundario. En este nuevo escenario, el fenómeno de las fake news sigue persistiendo. El presente estudio busca analizar cómo interactúan con las fake news en Facebook los adultos de Loja, Ecuador. Por ello, se adopta una metodología con enfoque mixto, combinando las técnicas de observación, análisis de contenido y encuestas. Las variables que se identificaron son el uso, frecuencia, reconocimiento e interacción. Las categorías investigadas, por su parte, hacen referencia a las características de las imágenes representadas en las noticias. La selección de la muestra se fundamentó en 8 fanpages de Facebook. La muestra de adultos consistió en 78 individuos, entre 45 y 65 años, seleccionados aleatoriamente y considerando su accesibilidad a la plataforma y disposición a participar en el estudio. Los resultados revelan que los adultos inicialmente mostraron dificultades para distinguir entre noticias verificadas y falsas, percibiendo ambas como hechos reales. Esta percepción errónea se reflejó en la tendencia a compartir y comentar las noticias falsas, lo que generó versiones distorsionadas de los hechos. En conclusión, la desinformación tiene la capacidad de potenciar y menoscabar la confianza en las noticias auténticas, como en la información verificada difundida en las redes sociales, contribuyendo a un efecto de ‘bola de nieve’ que estimula la desinformación en el ámbito local.

18. Smart meter data processing: a showcase for simple and efficient textual processing

Abstract

The increase in the production and collection of data from devices is an ongoing trend due to the roll-out of more cyber-physical applications. Smart meters, because of their importance in power grids, are a class of such devices whose produced data requires meticulous processing. In this paper, we use Unicage, a data processing system based on classic Unix shell scripting, that delivers excellent performance in a simple package. We use this methodology to process smart meter data in XML format, subjected to the constraints posed by a real use case. We develop a solution that parses, validates and performs a simple aggregation of 27 million XML files in less than 10 minutes. We present a study of the solution as well as the benefits of its adoption., Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures, 1 table, 9 listings. Abstract

The book discusses the work of Italian Capuchins in the face of American otherness, especially in the catechism of Indians and mestizos accused of being devil’s wizards. The friars faced a crisis in missionary optimism in the face of an alleged indigenous resistance to Christianity or to European social rules. The Portuguese colonial sources reveal evangelization as a field of dispute between the friars, the natives and the colonists, motivating daily conflicts, also encouraging changes in the social and symbolic traditions inside or near the missions. The indigenous people were not passive subjects in the process, contradicting the missionaries for the determination with which, supposedly, they practiced their “gentile” customs and rites. The documentation gathered adds important information to the study of indigenous peoples in contact with Capuchins in the inner territories of Portuguese America.
