Ge-As-Ga-S glasses doped with Tm3+ or Tm3+/Tb were studied for emission properties and electron population densities.

X-ray absorption spectroscopy was used to study the structural properties of As-Se-S glass system.

The measurement of the average size and the size distribution of Cd(S,Se) nanocrystallines is discusssed. This involves the utilization of high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, small angle x-ray scattering and low frequency inelastic Raman scattering. The probe and interactions used by each method were examined regarding the correlation of the measurements. The utility of the method was demonstrated.

Raman and midinfrared spectra were used to study pressure-induced structural changes occuring in MgSiO3, CaMgSi2O6 and CaSiO3 glasses. Pressure-induced changes observed in the study were found to be reversible. A common and dominant change among the three glasses was a shift of the midfrequency Raman bands to higher frequencies with increasing pressure. Sample preparation and trace impurities were subsequently found to greatly affect pressure-induced structural changes in glass.

The glass-crystal (GC) growth is studied by growing multiple crystal polymorphs from the liquid of ROY (5-methyl-2-[(2-nitrophenyl)amino]-3-thiophenecarbonitrile). The results have highlighted that the GC growth is enabled by molecular motions that are native to the glass but still persist in the viscous liquid.
