Abstract

The wealth of complex polar topologies recently found in nanoscale ferroelectrics result from a delicate balance between the materials intrinsic tendency to develop a homogeneous polarization and the electric and mechanic boundary conditions imposed upon them. Ferroelectric dielectric interfaces are model systems where polarization curling originates from open circuit like electric boundary conditions, to avoid the build-up of polarization charges through the formation of flux closure domains that evolve into vortex like structures at the nanoscale. Interestingly, while ferroelectricity is known to couple strongly to strain (both homogeneous and inhomogeneous), the effect of mechanical constraints on thin film nanoscale ferroelectrics has been comparatively less explored because of the relative paucity of strain patterns that can be implemented experimentally. Here we show that the stacking of freestanding ferroelectric perovskite layers with controlled twist angles opens an unprecedented opportunity to tailor these topological nanostructures in a way determined by the lateral strain modulation associated to the twisting. Interestingly, we find that a peculiar pattern of polarization vortices and antivortices emerges from the flexoelectric coupling of polarization to strain gradients. This finding opens exciting opportunities to create two-dimensional high density vortex crystals that would allow us to explore novel physical effects and functionalities.

Abstract

Superconductivity can be induced in a normal material via the leakage of superconducting pairs of charge carriers from an adjacent superconductor. This so-called proximity effect is markedly influenced by graphene unique electronic structure, both in fundamental and technologically relevant ways. These include an unconventional form of the leakage mechanism the Andreev reflection and the potential of supercurrent modulation through electrical gating. Despite the interest of high-temperature superconductors in that context, realizations have been exclusively based on low-temperature ones. Here we demonstrate gate-tunable, high-temperature superconducting proximity effect in graphene. Notably, gating effects result from the perfect transmission of superconducting pairs across an energy barrier -a form of Klein tunneling, up to now observed only for non-superconducting carriers- and quantum interferences controlled by graphene doping. Interestingly, we find that this type of interferences become dominant without the need of ultra-clean graphene, in stark contrast to the case of low-temperature superconductors. These results pave the way to a new class of tunable, high-temperature Josephson devices based on large-scale graphene.

Abstract

La empresa Panderitos Risco, ubicada en la ciudad de Armenia Quindío, y cuya actividad económica es la producción, manipulación y comercialización de alimentos, se encuentra en un proceso de crecimiento a nivel administrativo y físico, por lo cual se necesita realizar un estudio de las condiciones en las que los trabajadores realizan sus funciones diariamente y de los riesgos a los que se encuentran expuestos, con el objetivo de implementar mecanismos de mejoramiento contínuo; los riesgos existentes en las instalaciones de la empresa Panderitos Risco se exponen en el panorama de riesgo realizado. En el diseño del programa de salud ocupacional se proponen políticas que sirven como herramientas para dar origen a compromisos de la empresay del equipo de trabajo; se establecen responsabilidades y parámetros para el desarrollo de un programa de salud ocupacional y se plantean tareas y actividades a desarrollar en los subprogramas de medicina preventiva y del trabajo y de seguridad industrial; igualmente se propone el plan de emergencias para la previsión de posibles eventualidades. All oxide magnetic tunnel junctions based on epitaxial La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 (LCMO)(8 nm)/PrBa2Cu3O7 (PBCO) (3–8 nm)/LCMO(25–50 nm) heterostructures grown on (100) SrTiO3 are examined. Manganite electrodes show large (bulk‐like) magnetic moments and exhibit different magnetic anisotropies with different easy axes directions. A form of low dimensional magnetism is induced at the interfaces by the superexchange interaction across the reconstructed bonds. It acts as an exchange spring, driving ferromagnetic coupling between the electrodes. Resistance versus magnetic field loops demonstrate that the interfacial coupling strength depends on electric field through its effect on electronic reconstruction and orbital hierarchy at the interface. The electrically controlled magnetic coupling between the magnetic moments of the electrodes signals a new path toward low dissipation spintronics. The emergent electronic states at the interface between correlated oxides are a source of exciting novel device concepts. The induced magnetism resulting from orbital reconstruction at the barrier/electrode interfaces of a magnetic tunnel junction triggers a novel form of ferromagnetic coupling between magnetic electrodes has been showed. Abstract

Generation, manipulation, and sensing of magnetic domain walls are cornerstones in the design of efficient spintronic devices. Half-metals are amenable for this purpose as large low field magnetoresistance signals can be expected from spin accumulation at spin textures. Among half metals, La 1- x Sr x MnO 3 (LSMO) manganites are considered as promising candidates for their robust half-metallic ground state, Curie temperature above room temperature (T c = 360 K, for x = 1/3), and chemical stability. Yet domain wall magnetoresistance is poorly understood, with large discrepancies in the reported values and conflicting interpretation of experimental data due to the entanglement of various source of magnetoresistance, namely, spin accumulation, anisotropic magnetoresistance, and colossal magnetoresistance. In this work, the domain wall magnetoresistance is measured in LSMO cross-shape nanowires with single-domain walls nucleated across the current path. Magnetoresistance values above 10% are found to be originating at the spin accumulation caused by the mistracking effect of the spin texture of the domain wall by the conduction electrons. Fundamentally, this result shows the importance on non-adiabatic processes at spin textures despite the strong Hund coupling to the localized t 2g electrons of the manganite.
