2. Impact of Cumulus Options from Weather Research and Forecasting with Chemistry in Atmospheric Modeling in the Andean Region of Southern Ecuador.

Cumulus parameterization schemes model the subgrid-scale effects of moist convection, affecting the prognosis of cloud formation, rainfall, energy levels reaching the surface, and air quality. Working with a spatial resolution of 1 km, we studied the influence of cumulus parameterization schemes coded in the Weather Research and Forecasting with Chemistry Version 3.2 (WRF-Chem 3.2) for modeling in an Andean city in Southern Ecuador (Cuenca, 2500 masl), during September 2014. To assess performance, we used meteorological records from the urban area and stations located mainly over the Cordillera, with heights above 3000 masl, and air quality records from the urban area. Firstly, we did not use any cumulus parameterization (0 No Cumulus). Then, we considered four schemes: 1 Kain–Fritsch, 2 Betts–Miller–Janjic, 3 Grell–Devenyi, and 4 Grell-3 Ensemble. On average, the 0 No Cumulus option was better for modeling meteorological variables over the urban area, capturing 66.5% of records and being the best for precipitation (77.8%). However, 1 Kain–Fritsch was better for temperature (78.7%), and 3 Grell–Devenyi was better for wind speed (77.0%) and wind direction (37.9%). All the options provided acceptable and comparable performances for modeling short-term and long-term air quality variables. The results suggested that using no cumulus scheme could be beneficial for holistically modeling meteorological and air quality variables in the urban area. However, all the options, including deactivating the cumulus scheme, overestimated the total amount of precipitation over the Cordillera, implying that its modeling needs to be improved, particularly for studies on water supply and hydrological management. All the options also overestimated the solar radiation levels at the surface. New WRF-Chem versions and microphysics parameterization, the other component directly related to cloud and rainfall processes, must be assessed. In the future, a more refined inner domain, or an inner domain that combines a higher resolution (less than 1 km) over the Cordillera, with 1 km cells over the urban area, can be assessed. The resurgence in 1970s Spanish painting of the Mediterranean aesthetic (at least as a topic of a debate) entailed a utopian vision of the tourist city. The promise of tourism development permeated the realist (or 'committed', as it was called at the time) paintings when the artists used the opportunity to trade the sordid imagery of the previous decades for an imaginary evoking pleasure and warmth and suggesting a new urban utopia. This article overviews various versions of this utopia: from the images of the Mediterranean by Guillermo Pérez Villalta and Equipo Crónica to the impacts of art museums on urban development, from Cuenca to Bilbao. José Luis Perales (Castejón, Cuenca, España, 1945) se despidió de los escenarios en una extensa gira que tuvo lugar entre 2021 y 2022. El compositor, cantante y escritor dijo adiós a los escenarios tras superar el medio siglo de carrera musical y grabar veintisiete álbumes de estudio. Este artículo tiene como objetivo principal analizar las canciones que el conquense interpretó en sus dos conciertos en Cuenca, que tuvieron lugar el 20 y 21 de agosto de 2021. En el listado, compuesto por veintitrés canciones, incluyó los temas “Y cómo es él” y “Baladas para una despedida” que aparecen en el título de esta propuesta, se comparará con el que defendió en otras ciudades dentro de la misma gira. Además, se atenderá a su disco de procedencia, estilo, producción, discográfica, sentido de masculinidad y a las referencias sobre el ámbito rural y las ciudades pequeñas que planteó e incluyó en las mismas. Para ello, se parte de un estudio de caso que se fundamenta en una investigación cualitativa, analítica, estilística y descriptiva de las canciones ofrecidas en estas citas, sus grabaciones de procedencia, discográfica, productores originales y una entrevista directa que su hijo, Pablo Perales, director artístico de esta gira y de estos conciertos, brindó al investigador. Por supuesto, también se tiene en cuenta la literatura existente en ámbitos académicos sobre el conquense.

El objetivo de esta investigación fue realizar una caracterización sistemática del paisaje en la cuenca alta del río Santo Domingo - Venezuela, a partir de una metodología combinada en la que se utilizó un enfoque multinivel basado en el análisis cartográfico y cualitativo para instrumentalizar los conceptos de Geosistema, Territorio y Paisaje con el propósito de delinear unidades de paisaje. La combinación del análisis cartográfico con distintas fuentes de datos, el análisis documental y fotográfico multitemporal y el análisis perceptual, consultivo y valorativo a partir de entrevistas a la ciudadanía local y a un grupo de expertos permitió definir tres unidades de paisaje con características biofísicas, dinámica geoeconómica y valores perceptuales bien diferenciados. Los procesos territoriales en cada una de las unidades de paisaje obedecen al aprovechamiento de recursos naturales específicos, estructurando redes geoeconómicas particulares, que a su vez generan impactos ambientales y culturales diferenciados. Esta diferenciación paisajística podría ser de gran utilidad para el diseño de estrategias que orienten las actividades productivas en el marco de una ordenación territorial y un turismo sostenible en la región.

8. Synergistic use of SAR satellites with deep learning model interpolation for investigating of active landslides in Cuenca, Ecuador

Among the most intense geological disasters, landslides frequently occur throughout the world. These phenomena have been studied using space geodetic techniques, including Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and Multi-Temporal Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radars (MT-InSAR). Nevertheless, complete mapping and analysis of landslides’ surface deformation in most areas can be complicated due to a large diversity in kinematics, such as periods of quiescence and acceleration in the toe and crown. One of these landslides is the Cuenca landslides in Ecuador, where the geological investigation revealed that the toe of the landslides was located in urban areas, with more noticeable deformation effects. In contrast, its crown was located mainly in a rural and green land area. In this study, we show the potential of a synergistic use of COSMO-SkyMed (CSK) and Sentinel-1A (S1A) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data for comprehensively monitoring the Cuenca landslides. To this aim, we have used Long-Short Term Memory (LSTM) and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) as two different Deep Learning Algorithms (DLAs) to integrate results in the temporal and spatial domain, respectively. A cross-comparison of the results was made with the nine GPS-derived deformations and the visual effects (i.e. crack width and pattern) on the field. This validation against GPS observation reveals that the RMSEs of the final MT-InSAR-derived velocity after applying the synergic double band SAR dataset decrease at more than 73% of nine GPS stations.HighlightsSynergic MT-InSAR approach for studying landslide deformation in diverse kinematic areas.Utilized DLAs (LSTM and CNNs) for effective temporal and spatial interpolation of InSAR results.Findings emphasize the potential of multi-sensor SAR and DLAs for landslide monitoring regarding improving the RMSE at nine stations with an average of 73%.

The purpose of this investigative experience was the use of social cartography as a didactic mediation of environmental education to understand the Classroom-School-Territory interaction. The methodological route was of a qualitative approach through the elaboration of social cartography as a teaching and learning strategy of socio-environmental issues with the student population of primary school and the media of four Educational Institutions of the public sector of the department of Quindío, Colombia. The main findings show that in most of the cartographic representations, students express the importance of the natural and cultural landscape of their localities, reflect the main environmental problems and economic-productive dynamics, all which accounts for how students make their own readings. Socio-spatial aspects of everyday realities and how they inhabit the territory. Indeed, this experience of applying social cartography as a didactic strategy of environmental education, allowed students to come closer to understanding their environment and the interactions between the school and the territory, where a more participatory educational approach was opted for. and contextualized the curricular contents. Los procesos degradativos como la minería provocan pérdida de especies, cobertura forestal, servicios ecosistémicos y contaminan los cuerpos de agua. Bajo esta problemática, se determinó el comportamiento de la calidad del agua de la confluencia de los ríos Maguaca y Yuna, en el municipio de Cotuí, República Dominicana, asociada a actividades mineras. La investigación se realizó durante dos momentos: diciembre de 2020 (t1) y febrero de 2021 (t2). Para esto, se realizó un muestreo determinista de siete puntos equidistantes en el río Maguaca, y dos en el río Yuna, en t1 en época lluviosa y t2 en época seca. Además, se analizó la presencia de especies de macroinvertebrados bentónicos como indicadores de la calidad del agua según el método BMWP-Cub, y se determinó la composición y estructura de la vegetación riparia. Asimismo, se detalló el comportamiento espacial de las variables fisicoquímicas del agua como potencial de hidrógeno (pH), salinidad, conductividad eléctrica (CE), turbidez, demanda biológica de oxígeno (DBO), nitratos (NO3-), demanda química de oxígeno (DQO), fosfatos (PO43-), temperatura, oxígeno disuelto (O2D), carbono orgánico total (COT), y concentración de hierro (Fe). Se obtuvo agua de calidad crítica (muy contaminada) en la parte alta y muy crítica (fuertemente contaminada) en la parte baja, en ambos tiempos. Se recomienda fortalecer las políticas de seguimiento a los efectos ambientales, socioeconómicos y de salud.

15. Unveiling the Implementation of Bandung-Cuenca Sister City Relationship on Indonesian Cultural Diplomacy

This qualitative study investigated the paradiplomatic engagement between Bandung, Indonesia, and Cuenca, Ecuador, to enhance the global recognition of Indonesian culture, with a special focus on Bandung's batik and traditional angklung music. Employing a descriptive methodology, this research drew on literature reviews, official governmental documents, and theories to underscore the nuanced dynamics of sister city collaborations in fostering cultural exchange and mutual understanding beyond conventional diplomatic channels. Findings indicated that the partnership had pioneered the creation of Ecuadorian-inspired batik designs and the international promotion of angklung and contributed to a broader dialogue on the world’s cultural preservation and innovation. However, challenges remain in achieving substantial advancements for strategic development. This study contributes to the understanding of how local governments can leverage cultural assets to strengthen international relationships, suggesting that the agreements serve as valuable platforms for cultural diplomacy and international outreach. Recommendations for enhancing the effectiveness of such partnerships include a greater emphasis on measurable outcomes and reciprocal cultural exchanges.

A checklist of 22 species of Pyralidae and 19 species of Crambidae recorded in the Serrania de Cuenca Natural Park are presented, nine of which are cited for the first time for the province of Cuenca. The presence of Chrysocrambus dentuellus is confirmed and the Iberian distribution of Epischnia castillella is extended. La investigación buscó emplear la cartografía social como una mediación didáctica de la educación ambiental para comprender la interacción aula-escuela-territorio, como estrategia de enseñanza y aprendizaje de los temas socioambientales con población estudiantil de básica primaria y media de cuatro instituciones educativas del sector público del departamento del Quindío (Colombia). Según los principales hallazgos, en la mayoría de las representaciones cartográficas, los estudiantes expresan la importancia del paisaje natural y cultural de sus localidades y reflejan las principales problemáticas ambientales y las dinámicas económico-productivas. Todo ello da cuenta de cómo los estudiantes hacen sus propias lecturas socioespaciales de las realidades cotidianas y cómo habitan el territorio. En efecto, dicha experiencia permitió un acercamiento de los estudiantes a la comprensión de su entorno y las interacciones entre la escuela y el territorio, donde se apuesta por un enfoque educativo más participativo y contextualizado de los contenidos curriculares.

Las declaraciones compuestas por los célebres arquitectos barrocos Juan Pérez Castiel, Jaime Bort y Pedro de Ribera para reformar la fachada y torres de la Catedral de Cuenca entre 1710 y 1726 constituyen un ejemplo sustancial para entender la figura del artífice en sí mismo y en relación a la cultura arquitectónica de su tiempo. Al tratarse de fuentes originales no existe distorsión en su contenido por lo que adquieren un valor único y representativo a la hora de entender cómo trabajaban estos artífices, qué condicionantes teóricos y prácticos les influían y qué principios constructivos y decorativos empleaban. Así, el análisis de tres de estos textos vinculado a cada uno de los arquitectos permite entrever las características profesionales propias de cada uno y, a la par, los rasgos subyacentes que entroncan con el contexto arquitectónico del momento.

Con la aparición del hombre, la población creciente, el avance científico y tecnológico, la expansión social y económica, se llegó a formar una nueva esfera del ecosistema planetario. Aunque, los procesos que se desarrollan dentro de esta y su interacción con la atmósfera, hidrósfera, litósfera y la biósfera juegan un rol importante en la dinámica del actual ecosistema global. En este contexto, el objetivo es buscar información sobre los componentes del medio natural como el suelo, agua, litología, geomorfología y la fauna que funcionan como un sistema permanentemente brindando servicios ambientales para la sociedad y las poblaciones locales establecidas en un determinado territorio; desde una perspectiva transdisciplinar. En este caso respecto a la cuenca del río Cachi Mayu y la subcuenca de río Punilla de Cajamarca identificado con el software QGIS 3.28.3 de uso libre. Se evidenció la escasa información respecto a estudios actualizados multitemporales de flora y fauna, uso del suelo, acciones sobre el manejo integrado de cuencas a nivel de las subcuencas de Ravelo, Potolo, Maragua-Cachi Mayu y Cajamarca en la parte alta por su importancia en la provisión de agua para la ciudad de Sucre y en la parte baja de Maragua-Cachi Mayu por sus usos diversos en la zona. Existen debilidades en políticas, planes y programas en el manejo integrado de cuencas y en la gestión integral del recurso hídrico efectivos.

This article examines the role played by emotional references in the processes of political communication between the urban world and the nobility in fifteenth-century Castile. Chronologically, the study is framed by the succession of civil wars that shook the kingdom from the beginning of the century to Isabella I's final victory in 1479–80, a context that greatly contributed to bringing emotional expression to the fore. The focus is the relationship between the city of Cuenca and the high and middling aristocracy that operated in its hinterland. In contrast with other Castilian cities, the archival record in Cuenca is rich, allowing detailed examination of the emotional references and the way they were manipulated by city and nobility. The article emphasises the importance of the political dimension of emotions, and their role in integrating and giving cohesion to political relations, while modulating and mitigating conflict between nobility and city. 24. Multitemporal relative landslide exposure and risk analysis for the sustainable development of rapidly growing cities.

In recent decades, developing countries have experienced an increase in the impact of natural disasters due to ongoing climate change and the sustained expansion of urban areas. The intrinsic vulnerability of settlements, due to poverty and poor governance, as well as the lack of tools for urban occupation planning and mitigation protocols, has made such impacts particularly severe. Cuenca (Ecuador) is a significant example of a city that in recent decades has experienced considerable population growth (i.e. exposure) and an associated increase in loss due to landslide occurrence. Despite such effects, updated urban planning tools are absent, so an evaluation of multitemporal exposure to landslides and related risks is required. In this perspective, a potential urban planning tool is presented based on updated data depicting the spatial distribution of landslides and their predisposing factors, as well as population change between 2010 and 2020. In addition, a multitemporal analysis accounting for changes in exposure between 2010 and 2020 and an estimation of relative landside risk was carried out. Due to the absence of spatially distributed population data, energy supply contract data have been used as a proxy of the population. The results show that the current higher exposure and related relative risk are estimated for parishes (parroquias) located in the southern sector of the study area (i.e. Turi, Santa Ana, Tarqui, Nulti, Baños and Paccha). Moreover, the exposure multitemporal analysis indicates that most parishes located in the hilly areas bounding the city centre (i.e. Sayausi, San Joaquin, Tarqui, Sidcay, Baños, Ricaurte, Paccha and Chiquintad) are experiencing sustained population growth and will be potentially exposed to an increased risk with a consistently growing trend. The obtained relative risk map can be considered a valuable tool for guiding land planning, land management, occupation restriction and early warning strategy adoption in the area. The methodological approach used, which accounts for landslide susceptibility and population variation through proxy data analysis, has the potential to be applied in a similar context of growing population cities in low- to mid-income countries, where data usually needed for a comprehensive landslide risk analysis are non-existing or only partially available. 25. Modelación hidrodinámica de un tramo del río Purires a la altura del nuevo hospital, ante un posible escenario de cambio climático

En el cantón de El Guarco se ubicará el nuevo hospital de la provincia de Cartago, con un área estimada de construcción de 9 hectáreas, en un lote próximo a la confluencia de los ríos Purires y Coris. Históricamente en la zona se han presentado problemáticas relacionadas a desbordamientos de ríos e inundaciones. Los parámetros morfométricos determinados para la cuenca del río Purires señalan que la cuenca es propensa a la generación de inundaciones en la cuenca baja y la acumulación de sedimentos, esto aunado a altas pendientes que disminuyen su grado de inclinación según se aproximan al punto de estudio. Para la realización del proyecto del cual se deriva este artículo, se implementó el uso de una aeronave no tripulada y una antena RTK, esto para precisar la altimetría del área de interés, esta actividad resulta en un modelo digital de elevaciones de 3,7 cm/píxel, principal insumo para el modelado hidrodinámico. Se evalúa el comportamiento hidrodinámico de un tramo de 1,5km del río Purires, en Iber 2.4.3, del cual se obtiene la máxima extensión espacial, su calado y velocidad del flujo, así como su tiempo de permanencia, esto para un posible escenario de Cambio Climático. Se obtienen resultados tanto en el área donde se edificará el hospital, las llanuras de inundación próximas al tramo levantado del río, así como dos puentes, el puente 6 de la ruta nacional 2, que comunica el área metropolitana con la zona sur del país, y también un puente cantonal que comunica con el pueblo de Barrancas.

La Facultad de Educación de Cuenca (Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha) acogió el viernes 11, sábado 12 y domingo 13 de noviembre de 2022 la tercera/undécima edición del Encuentro Internacional de Docentes de Música/Jornadas de Didáctica de la Música y Musicología. Se inscribe en el festival internacional de música y arte Estival Cuenca, más en concreto en su apartado Estival Científico. En primer lugar, cabe destacar el hecho de que las 120 inscripciones puestas a disposición de los interesados se agotaron un mes antes de la celebración de este congreso. La matrícula era gratuita para alumnos y docentes de la UCLM y tuvo un precio simbólico de diez euros para el resto de asistentes. Organizado por Estival Cuenca y la Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, actuaron como patrocinadores el Consorcio Ciudad de Cuenca, el Departamento de Didáctica de la Educación Física, Artística y Música de la UCLM, la sede de Cuenca de la Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP) y la Facultad de Educación de Cuenca. También colaboraron en el mismo el Pub Los Clásicos, La Edad de Oro, el Restaurante El Coto de san Juan Plaza Mayor, la empresa de catering La era verdadera, Solventuri y el Hotel Torremangana. El diseño del cartel recayó en el CIDI (UCLM).

The article analyzes the racism and exclusion faced by Afro-descendants in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. It highlights how the identity of Cuenca has been associated with the white-mestizo subject, which has led to the denial of Afro-Cuenca identity and the exclusion of Afro-Cuenca people from social life and public spaces. It is mentioned that Afro-descendants are stereotyped, discriminated against, and hypersexualized, and that they face direct violence and police control in public spaces. En este estudio, basándonos en evidencias morfológicas y moleculares, describimos una nueva especie del género Pristimantis que habita en las montañas y valles áridos de la provincia del Azuay, incluyendo zonas urbanas y periurbanas de la ciudad de Cuenca. La nueva especie se destaca por presentar una textura dermal externa fuertemente granulada, una papilla proyectada en la punta del hocico y un canto de advertencia que consiste en series combinadas de tres y dos notas, Morfológicamente, la nueva especie es similar con P. cajamarcensis, P. ceuthospilus, P. jimenezi, P. lojanus, P. phoxocephalus y P torresi, por presentar una quilla en la punta del hocico, sin embargo, su textura dermal fuertemente granular, ausencia de tubérculos, y su coloración rosácea con reticulaciones irregulares oscuras y una características barra interorbital blanca, la distinguen de estas especies. Con P. cajamarcensis, P. ceuthopilus y otras dos especies con incertidumbre taxonómica, forma un clado distribuido en el sur de Ecuador y norte de Perú. Nuestros resultados resaltan la importancia de aumentar estudios taxonómicos a fin de documentar eficazmente la biodiversidad en la región andina, así como, la importancia de desarrollar planes de monitoreo y conservación que incluyan a especies que habitan en áreas urbanas y semiurbanas.

The expectations of cities served by High Speed Rail are numerous. Improvements in a destination’s accessibility could lead to an increase in transport demand and the revitalization of urban and business tourism. However, High Speed Rail services do not automatically affect the choice of destination even if they improve accessibility. Even so, they can improve visitation rates when tourist amenities are located near High Speed Rail stations becoming therefore easily accessible. The development of tourism is also influenced by the collective strategies of local stakeholders. Larger cities also appear able to leverage higher tourist volumes from the construction of High Speed Rail and most analyses to date have focused upon them. Thus we focus here on how the arrival of High Speed Rail services has impacted tourism on medium sized cities. Using a diachronic study of different socio-economic variables and tourist features, this article analyses the impact that the new rail infrastructure can have on tourism in two selected cases in Spain: Cuenca and Toledo.

La cuenca del río Vinces presenta una alta aptitud agrícola que ha permitido el desarrollo intensivo de cultivos agrícolas. Aportando una cantidad importante de divisas para el país pero que también ejercen una fuerte presión sobre el recurso hídrico para su riego, desplazando importante vegetación nativa. En este contexto es necesario ejercer una gobernanza de forma tal que garantice el manejo y desarrollo territorial de la cuenca. El presente trabajó tuvo por objetivo identificar los problemas de gobernanza relacionados con el uso agrícola del suelo y la demanda de agua para riego de los cultivos en la cuenca del río Vinces. Se realizó el análisis de la situación actual de la administración general de las cuencas hídricas en Ecuador y de manera especial de esta importante cuenca del centro del país. También se efectuó el análisis de los marcos conceptuales de gobernanza y la recopilación de geoinformación digital con su posterior procesamiento en sistemas de información geográfica, la tabulación de información estadística oficial y verificación en terreno del manejo de los cultivos agrícolas. Verificándose que las coberturas agrícolas principales de la cuenca en estudio expresadas por los cultivos agrícolas de banano, cacao y palma aceitera ejercían gran presión por el espacio y el agua de la cuenca para el riego en el largo periodo de estiaje de verano. Por otro lado, las cifras que recogían las concesiones históricas de agua para riego de la cuenca por parte de la autoridad ambiental, no reflejaban el verdadero volumen empleado por el sector agrícola; evidenciado al contrastar los requerimientos de riego de los cultivos y los volúmenes de agua concesionados.

Atractus lehmanni (Boettger, 1898), Lehmann’s Ground Snake, (Serpentes, Colubridae, Dipsadinae), was described by Boettger (1898) from Cuenca, Ecuador. We examined records of snakes labeled as A. lehmanni to determine if they fit the original description of this species. The results of our record examinations, in conjunction with long-term field surveys and a review of Friedrich Carl Lehmann’s travel logs, indicate that A. lehmanni occurs in the Cordilleras Central and Occidental of Colombia. Conversely, this species is apparently absent from Ecuador, where records of this species are in error or based on misidentifications.

35. Assessment of Land Surface Schemes from the WRF-Chem for Atmospheric Modeling in the Andean Region of Ecuador.

Surface interactions occur near the land–atmosphere interface, thus affecting the temperature, convection, boundary layer, and stability of the atmosphere. A proper representation of surface interactions is a crucial component for numerical atmospheric and air quality modeling. We assessed four land surface schemes—1. 5-layer thermal diffusion scheme (1 5-Layer); 2. unified Noah land surface model (2 Noah); 3. rapid update cycle (3 RUC) land surface model; and 4. Pleim–Xiu land surface model (4 Pleim–Xiu)—from the Weather Research and Forecasting with Chemistry (WRF-Chem V3.2) model for the purposes of atmospheric modeling in Cuenca, which is a region with a complex topography and land use configuration and which is located in the Southern Andean region, in Ecuador. For this purpose, we modeled the meteorological and air quality variables during September 2014. It was found that the meteorological and short-term air quality variables were better modeled through the 2 Noah scheme. Long-term (mean monthly) air quality variables were better modeled by the 1 5-Layer and 3 RUC options. On average, the 2 Noah scheme was better at modeling meteorology and air quality. In addition, we assessed the 2 Noah scheme combined with the urban canopy model (UCM) (5 Noah UCM), which was developed as an option to represent the urban effects at a subgrid-scale. Results indicated that the performance of the 5 Noah UCM scheme was not better at modeling than the 2 Noah scheme alone. Moreover, the 5 Noah UCM scheme notably decreased the modeling performance for carbon monoxide and fine particulate matter. These results complement previous assessments of other schemes, allowing us to recommend a basic configuration of parameters for atmospheric modeling in the Andean region of Ecuador. 36. An Eudromaeosaurian Theropod from Lo Hueco (Upper Cretaceous. Central Spain).

The Lo Hueco fossil site (Cuenca, Spain) is one of the most relevant localities for the study of Late Cretaceous continental vertebrate faunas from Europe. The fossil record of theropod dinosaurs from this locality is represented by scarce isolated postcranial materials that were preliminarily attributed to abelisaurids and to a possible giant bird, in addition to a large assemblage of isolated teeth that were related to different maniraptoran clades. Here, we describe an isolated partial left tibia articulated with the proximal tarsals and discuss their taxonomic affinities. A review of the European fossil record of Late Cretaceous theropods was performed to analyze possible changes in the faunistical composition during this period. The specimen from Lo Hueco exhibits some characters that have been interpreted as apomorphies for maniraptoran coelurosaurs and a combination of features compatible with deinonychosaurians. Within this clade, the specimen is more favorably comparable with velociraptorine dromaeosaurids and is tentatively interpreted as a member of this group. This specimen is one of the few non-dental specimens of dromaeosaurids described thus far from the Upper Cretaceous of the Iberian Peninsula and contributes to a better understanding of the composition and evolutionary history of the European theropod fauna during the last stages of the Mesozoic. Landslides are among the most intense geological disasters worldwide. Several remote sensing techniques have been used to study these phenomena over the last few decades, including Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and Multi-Temporal Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radars (MT-InSAR), in particular, Small Baseline Subset (SBAS) and Permanent Scatterer Interferometry (PSI). The University of Azuay and highway infrastructure (Cuenca - Ecuador) were affected by slow-moving landslides which in urban areas had more noticeable deformation effects due to their crowns. Furthermore, evidence indicates that the landslide toe was developed in a rural area. To study landslide boundary and deformation kinematics comprehensively, we need to observe two distinct scattering surfaces using SAR imagery (high coherence areas in the urban area and low coherence areas in the rural area). We can also observe different distributions in X- and C-bands due to the rural area covered by vegetation and trees at the toe of the landslide. Two sets of radar images were analyzed and compared for monitoring the aforementioned slow-moving landslide kinematics, including Sentinel1-A (S1-A) and COSMO-SkyMed (CSK). PSI and SBAS techniques have been used to measure the rate of surface deformation and displacement time series at CSK over the period (2017-2019) and S1-A units over the period (2015-2018), respectively. Furthermore, a GNSS station in the stable area was used as a reference station to integrate the PSI and SBAS results over space. Then, an unsupervised machine learning algorithm (K-medians) was used to determine the most appropriate intervals for preparing mean deformation rate maps. Finally, a comparison was made between the outputs obtained from this study and displacement recorded at two additional GNSS stations located in the area affected by deformation. As a result, by comparing and monitoring double-band SAR satellites and different SAR image processing techniques, it became possible to analyze the whole landslide of our case study appropriately. En el Ecuador existe un aumento creciente de la población adulta mayor quienes han estado expuesto a cambios sociales, económicos, tecnológicos y a una crisis sanitaria que ha afectado su nivel de calidad de vida. El objetivo general de esta investigación fue valorar la calidad de vida en adultos mayores no institucionalizados que acuden al Centro de Atención al Adulto Mayor (CAAM) del IESS de la ciudad de Cuenca- Ecuador, 2022. El proceso metodológico fue cuantitativo, con un diseño no experimental y de alcance descriptivo por lo que se emplearon medidas de tendencia central y de dispersión. Los participantes fueron 101 adultos mayores, 25 hombres y 76 mujeres, entre 61 a 89 años. Se empleó una ficha sociodemográfica para identificar el género, estado civil y nivel educativo, como también, se utilizó el cuestionario versión en español WHOQOL-BREF para valorar el nivel calidad de vida global y sus diferentes dominios. Los resultados obtenidos demostraron que los adultos mayores no institucionalizados tienen una tendencia hacia una calidad de vida global moderadamente alta siendo el dominio ambiental el mejor valorado. Se concluye que los adultos mayores no institucionalizados del CAAM de la ciudad de Cuenca perciben su calidad de vida de manera positiva y tienen una mejor satisfacción en lo relacionado a su ambiente.

El presente trabajo seleccionó e integró un conjunto de indicadores que evaluaron los recursos hídricos de la cuenca del arroyo Ludueña, Santa Fe, República Argentina. Se utilizó un abordaje multiescalar, sistémico y complejo a escala de cuenca mediante la combinación del método GEO orientado a la Gestión Integrada del Recurso Hídrico (GIRH) y del modelo FPEIR (Fuerzas motrices – Presión – Estado – Impacto - Respuesta). La Gestión Integrada del Recurso Hídrico (GIRH) considera la intervención humana como parte esencial del ciclo hidrológico a nivel de cuenca y lo considera un ciclo hidrosocial. Se detectaron veintiséis (26) puntos críticos que podrían permitir la implementación de políticas públicas orientadas a la sustentabilidad. Esta metodología puede adaptarse y replicarse en cuencas hídricas similares. Este trabajo constituye un aporte al diagnóstico ambiental integrado y resulta útil como insumo para los Organismos Públicos que deben velar por la conservación de los recursos hídricos de la cuenca del arroyo Ludueña.

In this study, based on morphological and molecular evidence, we described a new species of the Pristimantis genus inhabiting the mountains and dry inter-Andean dry valleys in the Azuay province, including urban and semiurban areas in the city of Cuenca. The new species is characterized by coarsely granulated dermal texture, papillae in the tip of the snout, and an advertisement call consisting of a combined series of three and two notes. Morphologically, the new species is similar to P. cajamarcensis, P. ceuthospilus, P. jimenezi, P. lojanus, P. phoxocephalus, and P. torresi. However, it can be differentiated from this species by its dermal texture, absence of tubercles in the dorsum, and its pinkish-brown coloration with dark irregular reticulations and the interorbital white stripe. The new species forms a strongly supported clade distributed in southern Ecuador and northern Peru with P. cajamarcensis, P. ceuthopilus, and two other Pristimantis with taxonomic uncertainty. Our results highlight the importance of taxonomic studies to document the biodiversity in the Andean region and to develop monitoring and conservation plans that include species that inhabit urban and semi-urban areas. 47. Estimation of soil losses due to water erosion in the Dagua River Basin, Colombia.

The Dagua river basin, in Colombia, is the most important source of water for the Valle del Cauca ecosystem, however, due to poor agricultural practices, it has been affected by water erosion. This study aimed at estimating soil erosion in the Dagua river basin, using the universal soil loss equation (USLE). The results show that most of the area presents erosivities that are between 1000-5000 MJ.mm.ha-1, corresponding to low and very low categories. On the other hand, erodibility ranged from 0.143 to 0.842 t. ha.h. MJ-1 mm-1 ha-1, which is framed in the categories from weak to extremely erodable, where the low to medium category predominates. Regarding soil losses due to erosion, it was found that more than 20% of each of the municipalities of Dagua, Restrepo, La Cumbre, and Vijes, showed high and very high erosion, particularly in the areas with bare soils and crops such as pineapple, contribute strongly, sometimes reaching over 1000 t ha-1 yr-1. Therefore, it is important to promote practices such as contour or contour planting, integrated crop cover management, land uses that integrate trees, and in more critical cases to consider ecological restoration processes. El huracán Stan afectó social, económica, hidrológica e hidráulicamente la cuenca del río Vicente Guerrero, Siltepec, Chiapas, México, del 3 al 6 de octubre de 2005, registrándose en la zona precipitaciones máximas de 552 mm/día el día 5 de octubre de 2005. Mediante modelación hidrológica, con el modelo HEC-HMS, se obtuvo un gasto pico de 460.1 m3/s, a la salida de la cuenca y los hidrogramas a la salida en cada subcuenca. Esos datos se utilizaron en la modelación hidráulica, con el modelo IBER, que reportó niveles máximos en el cauce de 5.75 m y velocidades máximas de 11.38 m/s. Se generaron anchos de bandas de inundación de 100 m en ambas márgenes. Los resultados se validaron con la información de una imagen satelital de Bing Maps de diciembre 2005, que muestra la banda de paso del huracán, comparando las coordenadas, X, Y, Z del evento simulado contra el observado, alcanzando un r2 = 0.99 para cada margen. Con esta información se generó un “mapa de peligrosidad”, de acuerdo con la Norma ACA de IBER, resultando que más de un 80 % del área de la envolvente de inundación presenta peligrosidad “elevada”.
