The microchannel condenser has the advantages of high condensation efficiency and low flow resistance. The vapor can liquefy and return to the evaporator rapidly, and the heat transfer performance and the smooth operation of the loop heat pipe can be improved. Suitable change rate of the cross-section along the microchannel flow field can adjust the pressure drop and flow rate of working fluid, and improve the anti-gravity performance of the loop heat pipe. In this paper, microchannels with different change rates of cross-section along the flow field, including 0.5 mm straight channel, 1 mm straight channel, divergent channel, and tapered channel, are designed and applied as condensers in loop heat pipes. The entrance size of the gradient microchannel is 0.5 mm or 1 mm, which uniformly expands to 1 mm or shrinks to 0.5 mm along the flow field. The vapor and cooling water form a countercurrent direction of motion in the microchannel, and the heat exchange is carried out through the bottom of the channel. The influence of the microchannel condenser structure and operating height situation between the evaporator and condenser on the heat transfer performance of the loop heat pipe are experimentally investigated. The results show that the loop heat pipe achieves an extremely low thermal resistance of 0.004℃/W with gravity assist. Under the gravity-free operation situation, the maximum evaporator temperature of the loop heat pipe with 0.5 mm straight channel and 1000 W heat load is 128.1 °C, and the vapor pressure drop fluctuated is in the range of -1000 ∼ 2500 Pa. Under the anti-gravity operation, the loop heat pipe with the tapered channel has effective transfer performance at 500 W, and the influence factor is only 28.1 %. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As a kind of green and high quality feed, fermented feed has the activity of promoting growth and improving immunity in aquaculture. The aim of this study was to develop a new liquid fermented feed for the culture of sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus and evaluate its nutritional value and function. After the commercial feed of the sea cucumber was fermented by Corynebacterium glutamicum, the contents of crude protein, free amino acids, palmitoleic acid, linoleic acid, arachidonic acid, and the total content of polyunsaturated fatty acids were significantly increased. By feeding the fermented food, the weight gain rate, special growth rate and feed conversion rate of the sea cucumber were significantly increased, and the mortality rate was significantly reduced in the challenge test. The cellulase activity in the gut of the sea cucumber fed with the fermented feed was significantly increased, while the activities of alkaline phosphatase, acid phosphatase, total nitric oxide synthase, catalase, and lysozyme in the coelomic fluid were significantly increased. The fermented feed changed the gut microbiota of the sea cucumber and significantly reduced the relative abundance of Vibrio, which was the main pathogen causing skin ulcer syndrome. Transcriptome analysis revealed 4492 differentially expressed genes that can be enriched in biological processes such as immune system processes and immune responses, and affect the growth performance and immune regulation of the sea cucumber through metabolic pathways such as ribosomal biogenesis. Further gene expression analysis showed that the upregulation of genes such as NFκBI, TLR, TLR3, TRAF6, MyD88, and p38 activated the TLR signaling pathway and enhances the immune response of the sea cucumber. Therefore, C. glutamicum fermented feed can promote the growth of the sea cucumber, enhance non-specific immunity, and resist pathogen infection, making it a highly promising feed for application. The lithium niobate single crystal is a well-known optical material that has been employed in a wide range of photonic applications. To realize further applications of the crystal, the birefringence properties need to be determined over a large range of temperatures. We report refractive indices and birefringence properties of undoped and MgO-doped lithium niobate crystals with high accuracy using spectroscopic ellipsometry in the spectral range from 450 to 1700 nm and a temperature range from ambient temperature to 1000 °C. The birefringence results indicate a transition temperature, where the crystal transforms from an anisotropic to isotropic property, and the advance of MgO doping in the crystal, which is related to the optical damage threshold of the materials. In addition, the lattice dynamics of the crystals have been analyzed by revisiting the Raman spectroscopy. As a nonparametric randomness test, the positive and negative runs test is widely used in practice due to the simplicity of its procedures. The test can lose efficiency if the alternative distribution is symmetrical at 0.5. In addition, the test can only be applied to test the randomness of a sequence from the uniform distribution. In this paper, we introduce an adaptive positive and negative runs test method to maximize the power function by choosing the optimal cut point. Also, the test is extended to check the randomness of a sequence generated from any other given distributions. Furthermore, we derive the exact distribution and obtain the asymptotical critical values of the proposed test statistics. Water is vital for life, and without it, biomolecules and cells cannot maintain their structures and functions. The remarkable properties of water originate from its ability to form hydrogen-bonding networks and dynamics, which the connectivity constantly alters because of the orientation rotation of individual water molecules. Experimental investigation of the dynamics of water, however, has proven challenging due to the strong absorption of water at terahertz frequencies. In response, by employing a high-precision terahertz spectrometer, we have measured and characterized the terahertz dielectric response of water from supercooled liquid to near the boiling point to explore the motions. The response reveals dynamic relaxation processes corresponding to the collective orientation, single-molecule rotation, and structural rearrangements resulting from breaking and reforming hydrogen bonds in water. We have observed the direct relationship between the macroscopic and microscopic relaxation dynamics of water, and the results have provided evidence of two liquid forms in water with different transition temperatures and thermal activation energies. The gut microbiota is one of the essential contributors of the pathogenesis and progress of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Compared with first-line drug therapy, probiotic supplementation has emerged as a viable and secure therapeutic approach for managing IBD through the regulation of both the immune system and gut microbiota. Nevertheless, the efficacy of oral probiotic supplements is hindered by their susceptibility to the gastrointestinal barrier, leading to diminished bioavailability and restricted intestinal colonization. Here, we developed a bacteria-microalgae symbiosis system (EcN-SP) for targeted intestinal delivery of probiotics and highly effective treatment of colitis. The utilization of mircroalge Spirulina platensis (SP) as a natural carrier for the probiotic Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 (EcN) demonstrated potential benefits in promoting EcN proliferation, facilitating effective intestinal delivery and colonization. The alterations in the binding affinity of EcN-SP within the gastrointestinal environment, coupled with the distinctive structural properties of the SP carrier, served to overcome gastrointestinal barriers, minimizing transgastric EcN loss and enabling sustained intestinal retention and colonization. The oral administration of EcN-SP could effectively treat IBD by reducing the expression of intestinal inflammatory factors, maintaining the intestinal barrier and regulating the balance of gut microbiota. This probiotic delivery approach is inspired by symbiotic interactions found in nature and offers advantages in terms of feasibility, safety, and efficacy, thus holding significant promise for the management of gastrointestinal disorders. Maximizing rice yield potential has always been the focus of high-yield rice cultivation research. For high-yield rice cultivation and breeding, more research into the link between yield and yield components is essential. In this experiment, 38 rice varieties with different yield types and 185 rice varieties as materials were chosen. The relationships between yield and yield components were studied. The regulation effects of total nitrogen application rate (TNAR) on yield and yield components were observed. The results showed that (1) the grain yield of high-yield varieties was 189.3−195.6%, 76.1−77.7%, and 27.0−28.7% higher than that of super-low-yield, low-yield, and medium-yield varieties, respectively. Compared with rice varieties with other yield types, rice varieties with high-yield type have a higher total number of spikelets. (2) The spikelet number per panicle and total number of spikelets were significantly positively linked with grain yield, but significantly negatively correlated with filled grains and grain weight. (3) With an increase in TNAR (0−340 kg ha−1), the panicles, spikelet number per panicle, and total spikelets of rice varieties with different yield types increased gradually, and the filled grains and grain weight decreased gradually. The higher the TNAR, the more obvious the decrease in filled grains and grain weight. The grain yield of rice varieties with different yield types was the highest under the TNAR at 250 kg ha−1. The main factor contributing to its high yield was the substantial increase in total spikelets. The above results showed that increasing the spikelet number per panicle and total spikelets played a material role in improving rice yield. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
