23. Reliable Multi-Factor User Authentication With One Single Finger Swipe

Abstract

Multi-factor user authentication becomes increasingly popular due to its superior security comparing with single-factor user authentication. However, existing multi-factor user authentication methods usually require multiple interactions between users and different authentication components when inputting the multiple factors, leading to extra overhead and bad user experience. In this paper, we propose a secure and user-friendly multi-factor user authentication system named BioDraw. It utilizes four categories of biometrics (impedance, geometry, behavior, and composition) of human hand plus the pattern-based password to identify and authenticate users. User only needs to draw a pattern on a radio frequency identification tag array, while four biometrics can be collected simultaneously. Specifically, we first design a gradient-based pattern recognition algorithm to precisely extract user’s secret pattern. Then, a convolutional neural network- and long short-term memory-based classifier is utilized for user recognition. Furthermore, to guarantee the systemic security, an anti-replay method called Binary ALOHA is proposed to detect replayed signals. We conduct extensive experiments with 30 volunteers. The experiment results show that BioDraw can achieve high authentication accuracy (with a 2%– false reject rate) and is effective in defending against various attacks.

24. ShakeReader: ‘Read’ UHF RFID Using Smartphone

Abstract

UHF RFID technology has become increasingly popular in stores, since it can quickly read a large number of RFID tags from afar. The deployed RFID infrastructure, however, does not directly benefit smartphone users in stores, mainly because smartphones cannot read UHF RFID tags or fetch relevant information. This article aims to bridge the gap and allow users to ‘read’ UHF RFID tags using their smartphones, without any hardware modification to either deployed RFID systems or smartphone hardware. To ‘read’ an interested tag, a user makes a predefined smartphone gesture in front of an interested tag. The smartphone gesture causes changes in 1) RFID measurement data captured by RFID infrastructure, and 2) motion sensor data captured by the user's smartphone. By matching the two data, our system (named ShakeReader) can pair the interested tag with the corresponding smartphone, thereby enabling the smartphone to indirectly ‘read’ the interested tag. We build a novel reflector polarization model to analyze the impact of smartphone gesture to RFID backscattered signals. We enhance the basic version of ShakeReader [7] by improving its performance in densely deployed scenarios. Experimental results show that ShakeReader can accurately pair interested tags with their corresponding smartphones with an accuracy of ${>}96.3\%$>96.3%.

Patients with a history of both depression and NSSI behaviors tend to have greater risk of suicide. At present, the mechanism of adolescent depressive disorder patients with NSSI behaviors is not clear, epigenetic mechanism may be involved. Proopiomelanocortin (POMC) gene may be associated with depressive disorder. The purpose of this study was to investigate DNA methylation of POMC gene promoter region of adolescent depressive disorder patients with NSSI behaviors.Methods: Bisulfite Sequencing PCR (BSP) was used to test the methylation level of POMC promoter of 15 adolescent depressive disorder patients with NSSI behaviors and 15 healthy controls (HC). Self-made questionnaires were used to collect clinical data of the case group and control group. Hamilton depression scale-24 (HAMD-24), Hamilton anxiety scale (HAMA), Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90) were used to evaluate the characteristics and severity of depressive, anxiety and psychotic symptoms. Adolescent self-injury questionnaire was used to assess NSSI behaviors and its severity.Results: BSP analysis found that the POMC methylation level of cytosine-guanine dinucleotide 1 (CpG1) site was higher in the case group than that of HC (P< 0.05). The significance in POMC methylation at CpG1 between case group and HC was gender-independent, and CpG1 methylation level was higher in both male (P< 0.05) and female (P< 0.05) patients than that in HC. The CpG1 methylation level had a little correlation trends with family history of psychosis (P=0.05). We also found that POMC methylation level at CpG17 in female patients was significantly higher than that of the female HC (P< 0.05).Conclusion: There was abnormal methylation in the POMC promoter region of adolescent depressive disorder patients with NSSI behaviors, the methylation of CpG1 may act as epigenetic markers for those adolescents.Keywords: adolescent, depressive disorder, POMC, methylation, nonsuicidal self-injury behavior

Abstract

This paper investigates the problem of exponential stability in mean square sense for stochastic Markov jump systems with mixed time-varying delays and partly unknown transition rates. By employing a class of appropriate stochastic Lyapunov functionals, the analysis process of stability for stochastic Markov jump systems can be effectively carried out. Based on the linear matrix inequalities technique, the mean square exponential stability criteria are presented for stochastic Markov jump systems with partly unknown transition rates. Furthermore, by expanding this case to uncertain Markov jump systems, we derive the sufficient conditions for guaranteeing the stability of uncertain Markov jump systems. Abstract

Objective: To assess the association of neural precursor cell expressed developmentally down-regulated 4 (NEDD4) with schizophrenia., Methods: Five single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the NEDD4 gene were genotyped by TaqMan SNP genotyping assay in an independent sample of 464 individuals with schizophrenia and 487 healthy controls from eastern Han Chinese population. Clinical data were collected with a general information questionnaire and Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS)., Results: Frequencies of rs3088077 (allelic: χ2=18.024, P=0.000; genotypic: χ2=16.634, P=0.000), rs7162435 (allelic: χ2=6.771, P=0.009; genotypic: χ2=7.352, P=0.025) and rs2303579 (allelic: χ2=11.253, P=0.001; genotypic: χ2=12.248, P=0.002) were found to be significant different between the two groups. Moreover, TT of rs7162435 was significantly correlated with scores of factors of excitement and hostility (14.53±3.925, F=3.551, P=0.029)., Conclusion: rs3088077, rs7162435 and rs2303579 of the NEDD4 gene may be associated with schizophrenia. Moreover, the TT genotype of rs7162435 may increase the severity of excitement and hostility. Our results may provide a clue for delineating the connection between the glutamate hypothesis of schizophrenia and ubiquitination.
