This paper focuses on the optimal coverage problem (OCP) for multi-agent systems with decentralized optimization. A game based distributed decision approach for the the multi-agent OCP is proposed. The equivalence between the equilibrium of the game and the extreme value of the global performance objective is strictly proved. Then, a distributed algorithm only using local information to obtain the global near-optimal coverage is developed, and its convergence is proved. Finally, the proposed method is applied to maximize the covering time of a satellite constellation for a target. Ising annealer is a promising quantum-inspired computing architecture for combinatorial optimization problems. In this paper, we introduce an Ising annealer based on the Hamiltonian Monte Carlo, which updates the variables of all dimensions in parallel. The main innovation is the fusion of an approximate gradient-based approach into the Ising annealer which introduces significant acceleration and allows a portable and scalable implementation on the commercial FPGA. Comprehensive simulation and hardware experiments show that the proposed Ising annealer has promising performance and scalability on all types of benchmark problems when compared to other Ising annealers including the state-of-the-art hardware. In particular, we have built a prototype annealer which solves Ising problems of both integer and fraction coefficients with up to 200 spins on a single low-cost FPGA board, whose performance is demonstrated to be better than the state-of-the-art quantum hardware D-Wave 2000Q and similar to the expensive coherent Ising machine. The sub-linear scalability of the annealer signifies its potential in solving challenging combinatorial optimization problems and evaluating the advantage of quantum hardware.

We introduce MindSpore Quantum, a pioneering hybrid quantum-classical framework with a primary focus on the design and implementation of noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) algorithms. Leveraging the robust support of MindSpore, an advanced open-source deep learning training/inference framework, MindSpore Quantum exhibits exceptional efficiency in the design and training of variational quantum algorithms on both CPU and GPU platforms, delivering remarkable performance. Furthermore, this framework places a strong emphasis on enhancing the operational efficiency of quantum algorithms when executed on real quantum hardware. This encompasses the development of algorithms for quantum circuit compilation and qubit mapping, crucial components for achieving optimal performance on quantum processors. In addition to the core framework, we introduce QuPack, a meticulously crafted quantum computing acceleration engine. QuPack significantly accelerates the simulation speed of MindSpore Quantum, particularly in variational quantum eigensolver (VQE), quantum approximate optimization algorithm (QAOA), and tensor network simulations, providing astonishing speed. This combination of cutting-edge technologies empowers researchers and practitioners to explore the frontiers of quantum computing with unprecedented efficiency and performance.

DIffuse X-ray Explorer (DIXE) is a proposed high-resolution X-ray spectroscopic sky surveyor on the China Space Station (CSS). DIXE will focus on studying hot baryons in the Milky Way. Galactic hot baryons like the X-ray emitting Milky Way halo and eROSITA bubbles are best observed in the sky survey mode with a large field of view. DIXE will take advantage of the orbital motion of the CSS to scan a large fraction of the sky. High-resolution X-ray spectroscopy, enabled by superconducting microcalorimeters based on the transition-edge sensor (TES) technology, will probe the physical properties (e.g., temperature, density, elemental abundances, kinematics) of the Galactic hot baryons. This will complement the high-resolution imaging data obtained with the eROSITA mission. Here we present the preliminary design of DIXE. The payload consists mainly of a detector assembly and a cryogenic cooling system. The key components of the detector assembly are a microcalorimeter array and frequency-domain multiplexing readout electronics. We study duality defects in 2+1d theories with $\bZ^{(0)}_N\times\bZ^{(1)}_N$ global symmetry and trivial mixed 't Hooft anomaly. By gauging these symmetries simultaneously in half of the spacetime, we define duality defects for theories that are self-dual under gauging. We calculate the fusion rules involving duality defects and show that they obey a fusion 2-category. We also construct the corresponding symmetry topological field theory, a four-dimensional BF theory on a slab which realizes the duality defects on the boundary upon shrinking the interval. Furthermore, we provide explicit examples of such duality defects in $U(1)\times U(1)$ gauge theories and in more general product theories. Finally, we find duality defects in non-Lagrangian theories obtained by compactification of 6d $\cN=(2,0)$ SCFTs of type $A_{N-1}$ on various three-manifolds.

With the rapid development of quantum computing technology, we have entered the era of noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) computers. Therefore, designing quantum algorithms that adapt to the hardware conditions of current NISQ devices and can preliminarily solve some practical problems has become the focus of researchers. In this paper, we focus on quantum generative models in the field of quantum machine learning, and propose a hybrid quantum-classical normalizing flow (HQCNF) model based on parameterized quantum circuits. Based on the ideas of classical normalizing flow models and the characteristics of parameterized quantum circuits, we cleverly design the form of the ansatz and the hybrid method of quantum and classical computing, and derive the form of the loss function in the case that quantum computing is involved. We test our model on the image generation problem. Experimental results show that our model is capable of generating images of good quality. Compared with other quantum generative models, such as quantum generative adversarial networks (QGAN), our model achieves lower (better) Fr\'echet inception distance (FID) score, and compared with classical generative models, we can complete the image generation task with significantly fewer parameters. These results prove the advantage of our proposed model.

Diffuse X-ray Explorer (DIXE) is a proposed X-ray spectroscopic survey experiment for the China Space Station. Its detector assembly (DA) contains the transition edge sensor (TES) microcalorimeter and readout electronics based on the superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) on the cold stage. The cold stage is thermally connected to the ADR stage, and a Kevlar suspension is used to stabilize and isolate it from the 4 K environment. TES and SQUID are both sensitive to the magnetic field, so a hybrid shielding structure consisting of an outer Cryoperm shield and an inner niobium shield is used to attenuate the magnetic field. In addition, IR/optical/UV photons can produce shot noise and thus degrade the energy resolution of the TES microcalorimeter. A blocking filter assembly is designed to minimize the effects. In it, five filters are mounted at different temperature stages, reducing the probability of IR/optical/UV photons reaching the detector through multiple reflections between filters and absorption. Contrastive learning is a model pre-training technique by first creating similar views of the original data, and then encouraging the data and its corresponding views to be close in the embedding space. Contrastive learning has witnessed success in image and natural language data, thanks to the domain-specific augmentation techniques that are both intuitive and effective. Nonetheless, in tabular domain, the predominant augmentation technique for creating views is through corrupting tabular entries via swapping values, which is not as sound or effective. We propose a simple yet powerful improvement to this augmentation technique: corrupting tabular data conditioned on class identity. Specifically, when corrupting a specific tabular entry from an anchor row, instead of randomly sampling a value in the same feature column from the entire table uniformly, we only sample from rows that are identified to be within the same class as the anchor row. We assume the semi-supervised learning setting, and adopt the pseudo labeling technique for obtaining class identities over all table rows. We also explore the novel idea of selecting features to be corrupted based on feature correlation structures. Extensive experiments show that the proposed approach consistently outperforms the conventional corruption method for tabular data classification tasks. Recently, two-photon fluorescent probes based on anthocyanidins molecules have attracted extensive attention due to their outstanding photophysical properties. However, there are only a few two-photon excited fluorescent probes that really meet the requirements of relatively long emission wavelengths (>600 nm), large two-photon absorption (TPA) cross sections (300 GM), significant Stokes shift (>80 nm), and high fluorescence intensity. Herein, the photophysical properties of a series of anthocyanidins with the same substituents but different fluorophore skeletons were investigated in detail. Compared with b-series molecules, a-series molecules with a six-membered ring in the backbone have a slightly higher reorganization energy. This results in more energy loss upon light excitation, enabling the reaction products to detect NTR through a larger Stokes shift. More importantly, there is very little decrease in fluorescence intensity as the Stokes shift increases. These features are extremely valuable for high-resolution NTR detection. In light of this, novel 2a-n (n=1-5) compounds are designed, which are accomplished by inhibiting the twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) effect through alkyl cyclization, azetidine ring and extending {\pi} conjugation. Among them, 2a-3 gains long emission spectrum ({\lambda}em=691.42 nm), noticeable TPA cross section (957.36 GM), and large Stokes shift (110.88 nm), indicating that it serves as a promising candidate for two-photon fluorescent dyes. It is hoped that this work will offer some insightful theoretical direction for the development of novel high performance anthocyanin fluorescent materials.

In most applications of utilizing neural networks for mathematical optimization, a dedicated model is trained for each specific optimization objective. However, in many scenarios, several distinct yet correlated objectives or tasks often need to be optimized on the same set of problem inputs. Instead of independently training a different neural network for each problem separately, it would be more efficient to exploit the correlations between these objectives and to train multiple neural network models with shared model parameters and feature representations. To achieve this, this paper first establishes the concept of common information: the shared knowledge required for solving the correlated tasks, then proposes a novel approach for model training by adding into the model an additional reconstruction stage associated with a new reconstruction loss. This loss is for reconstructing the common information starting from a selected hidden layer in the model. The proposed approach encourages the learned features to be general and transferable, and therefore can be readily used for efficient transfer learning. For numerical simulations, three applications are studied: transfer learning on classifying MNIST handwritten digits, the device-to-device wireless network power allocation, and the multiple-input-single-output network downlink beamforming and localization. Simulation results suggest that the proposed approach is highly efficient in data and model complexity, is resilient to over-fitting, and has competitive performances., Comment: 16 pages, 5 figures. Stellar feedback plays a crucial role in regulating baryon cycles of a galactic ecosystem, and may manifest itself in the formation of superbubbles in the interstellar medium. In this work, we used a set of high-resolution simulations to systematically study the properties and evolution of superbubbles in galactic environments. The simulations were based on the SMUGGLE galaxy formation framework using the hydrodynamical moving-mesh code Arepo, reaching a spatial resolution of $\sim 4 \, \rm pc$ and mass resolution of $\sim 10^3 \, \rm M_{\odot}$. We identified superbubbles and tracked their time evolution using the parent stellar associations within the bubbles. The X-ray luminosity-size distribution of superbubbles in the fiducial run is largely consistent with the observations of nearby galaxies. The size of superbubbles shows a double-peaked distribution, with the peaks attributed to early feedback (radiative and stellar wind feedback) and supernova feedback. The early feedback tends to suppress the subsequent supernova feedback, and it is strongly influenced by star formation efficiency, which regulates the environmental density. Our results show that the volume filling factor of hot gas ($T > 10^{5.5} ~\mathrm{K}$) is about $12 \%$ averaged over a region of 4 kpc in height and 20 kpc in radius centered on the disk of the galaxy. Current spectral compressed sensing methods via Hankel matrix completion employ symmetric factorization to demonstrate the low-rank property of the Hankel matrix. However, previous non-convex gradient methods only utilize asymmetric factorization to achieve spectral compressed sensing. In this paper, we propose a novel nonconvex projected gradient descent method for spectral compressed sensing via symmetric factorization named Symmetric Hankel Projected Gradient Descent (SHGD), which updates only one matrix and avoids a balancing regularization term. SHGD reduces about half of the computation and storage costs compared to the prior gradient method based on asymmetric factorization. {Besides, the symmetric factorization employed in our work is completely novel to the prior low-rank factorization model, introducing a new factorization ambiguity under complex orthogonal transformation}. Novel distance metrics are designed for our factorization method and a linear convergence guarantee to the desired signal is established with $O(r^2\log(n))$ observations. Generative adversarial network (GAN) is one of the widely-adopted machine-learning frameworks for a wide range of applications such as generating high-quality images, video, and audio contents. However, training a GAN could become computationally expensive for large neural networks. In this work, we propose a hybrid quantum-classical architecture for improving GAN (denoted as QC-GAN). The performance was examed numerically by benchmarking with a classical GAN using MindSpore Quantum on the task of hand-written image generation. The generator of the QC-GAN consists of a quantum variational circuit together with a one-layer neural network, and the discriminator consists of a traditional neural network. Leveraging the entangling and expressive power of quantum circuits, our hybrid architecture achieved better performance (Frechet Inception Distance) than the classical GAN, with much fewer training parameters and number of iterations for convergence. We have also demonstrated the superiority of QC-GAN over an alternative quantum GAN, namely pathGAN, which could hardly generate 16$\times$16 or larger images. This work demonstrates the value of combining ideas from quantum computing with machine learning for both areas of Quantum-for-AI and AI-for-Quantum.

We achieve high detectivity terahertz sensing using a silicon nitride nanomechanical resonator functionalized with a metasurface absorber. High performances are achieved by striking a fine balance between the frequency stability of the resonator, and its responsivity to absorbed radiation. Using this approach, we demonstrate a detectivity $D^*=3.4\times10^9~\mathrm{cm\cdot\sqrt{Hz}/W}$ and a noise equivalent power $\mathrm{NEP}=36~\mathrm{pW/\sqrt{Hz}}$ that outperform the best room-temperature on-chip THz detectors (i.e., pyroelectrics). Our optical absorber consists of a 1-mm diameter metasurface, which currently enables a 0.5-3 THz detection range but can easily be scaled to other frequencies in the THz and infrared ranges. In addition to demonstrating high-performance terahertz sensing, our work unveils an important fundamental trade-off between high frequency stability and high responsivity in thermal-based nanomechanical radiation sensors.

Molecular docking is an important tool for structure-based drug design, accelerating the efficiency of drug development. Complex and dynamic binding processes between proteins and small molecules require searching and sampling over a wide spatial range. Traditional docking by searching for possible binding sites and conformations is computationally complex and results poorly under blind docking. Quantum-inspired algorithms combining quantum properties and annealing show great advantages in solving combinatorial optimization problems. Inspired by this, we achieve an improved in blind docking by using quantum-inspired combined with gradients learned by deep learning in the encoded molecular space. Numerical simulation shows that our method outperforms traditional docking algorithms and deep learning-based algorithms over 10\%. Compared to the current state-of-the-art deep learning-based docking algorithm DiffDock, the success rate of Top-1 (RMSD<2) achieves an improvement from 33\% to 35\% in our same setup. In particular, a 6\% improvement is realized in the high-precision region(RMSD<1) on molecules data unseen in DiffDock, which demonstrates the well-generalized of our method.

Classical shadow tomography, harnessing randomized informationally complete (IC) measurements, provides an effective avenue for predicting many properties of unknown quantum states with sample-efficient precision. Projections onto $2^n+1$ mutually unbiased bases (MUBs) are widely recognized as minimal and optimal IC measurements for full-state tomography. We study how to use MUBs circuits as the ensemble in classical shadow tomography. For the general observables, the variance to predict their expectation value is shown to be exponential to the number of qubits $n$. However, for a special class termed as appropriate MUBs-average (AMA) observables, the variance decreases to $poly(n)$. Additionally, we find that through biased sampling of MUBs circuits, the variance for non-AMA observables can again be reduced to $poly(n)$ with the MUBs-sparse condition. The performance and complexity of using the MUBs and Clifford circuits as the ensemble in the classical shadow tomography are compared in the end.

We combine parametric frequency upconversion with single-photon counting technology to achieve detection sensitivity down to the terahertz (THz) single-photon level. Our relatively simple detection scheme employs a near-infrared ultrafast source, a GaP nonlinear crystal, optical filters, and a single photon avalanche diode. This configuration is capable of detecting a weak THz signal with an energy of 590 zJ contained within a single pulse. Through averaging over 50k data points, the configuration can resolve a 0.5 zJ pulse energy, corresponding to an average of 0.5 photon per pulse. The corresponding noise-equivalent power and THz-to-NIR photon detection efficiency are $4.1 \times 10^{-17} W/\sqrt{Hz}$ and 0.19%, respectively. To test our scheme, we perform spectroscopy of water vapor between 1.0 and 3.7 THz and obtain results in agreement with to those acquired with a standard electro-optic sampling (EOS) method. Slow data acquisition in terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) has hindered the technique's ability to resolve "fast" dynamics occurring on the microsecond timescale. This timescale, arguably too slow to be accessed via standard optical pump-probe techniques relying on ultrafast sources, hosts a range of phenomena that has been left unexplored due to a lack of proper real-time monitoring techniques. In this work, chirped-pulse spectral encoding, a photonic time-stretch technique, and high-speed electronics are used to demonstrate time-resolved THz detection at a rate up to 1.1 MHz. This configuration relies on a table-top source and a setup able to resolve every THz transient that it can generate. We investigate the performance of this system at different acquisition rates in terms of experimental noise, dynamic range, and signal-to-noise ratio. Web is increasingly becoming the primary platform to deliver AI services onto edge devices, making in-browser deep learning (DL) inference more prominent. Nevertheless, the heterogeneity of edge devices, combined with the underdeveloped state of Web hardware acceleration practices, hinders current in-browser inference from achieving its full performance potential on target devices. To address this issue, this paper presents the pioneering inbrowser inference system, nnJIT, which enables just-in-time (JIT) auto-generation of optimized computing kernels for edge devices. nnJIT is built upon two novel techniques that significantly reduce kernel search and compilation overhead while improving performance firmly: Tensor-Web Compiling Co-Design lowers compiling costs by around 100X through eliminating redundant and ineffective compiling passes; Web-Specific Lite Kernel Optimization Space reduces kernel tuning costs by focusing on Web programming requirements and efficient device resource utilization, pruning the optimization space from millions to only dozens. nnJIT is evaluated for modern models, e.g., BART, T5, and Llama 2, on a range of edge devices including laptops and smartphones using different browsers and hardware from ARM, Intel, AMD and Nvidia. The Hot Universe Baryon Surveyor (HUBS) is a proposed space-based X-ray telescope for detecting X-ray emissions from the hot gas content in our universe. With its unprecedented spatially-resolved high-resolution spectroscopy and large field of view, the HUBS mission will be uniquely qualified to measure the physical and chemical properties of the hot gas in the interstellar medium, the circumgalactic medium, the intergalactic medium, and the intracluster medium. These measurements will be valuable for two key scientific goals of HUBS, namely to unravel the AGN and stellar feedback physics that governs the formation and evolution of galaxies, and to probe the baryon budget and multi-phase states from galactic to cosmological scales. In addition to these two goals, the HUBS mission will also help us solve some problems in the fields of galaxy clusters, AGNs, diffuse X-ray backgrounds, supernova remnants, and compact objects. In reinforcement learning, the objective is almost always defined as a \emph{cumulative} function over the rewards along the process. However, there are many optimal control and reinforcement learning problems in various application fields, especially in communications and networking, where the objectives are not naturally expressed as summations of the rewards. In this paper, we recognize the prevalence of non-cumulative objectives in various problems, and propose a modification to existing algorithms for optimizing such objectives. Specifically, we dive into the fundamental building block for many optimal control and reinforcement learning algorithms: the Bellman optimality equation. To optimize a non-cumulative objective, we replace the original summation operation in the Bellman update rule with a generalized operation corresponding to the objective. Furthermore, we provide sufficient conditions on the form of the generalized operation as well as assumptions on the Markov decision process under which the globally optimal convergence of the generalized Bellman updates can be guaranteed. We demonstrate the idea experimentally with the bottleneck objective, i.e., the objectives determined by the minimum reward along the process, on classical optimal control and reinforcement learning tasks, as well as on two network routing problems on maximizing the flow rates., Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures. We present an X-ray spectrum of the diffuse X-ray background (DXRB) between 1.5 and 120 keV, as measured with the Low-Energy Detector (LE) and the High-Energy Detector (HE) aboard the Insight-HXMT satellite, based on 'blank-sky' observations. LE covers a nominal energy range of 1-15 keV and HE 20-250 keV, but calibration issues and data quality narrowed the energy range for this work. The LE background was directly measured with `blind' detector modules, while the HE background was derived from Earth-occultation data. With the LE data alone, the measured DXRB spectrum can be well described by a power law; fitting the LE and HE data jointly, however, a spectral cut-off must be introduced in the model to account for the measurements above 30 keV. Modelling the combined spectrum with a cut-off power law, the best-fit photon index is 1.40, normalisation $9.57$~$\rm ph~cm^{-2}~s^{-1}~keV^{-1}~sr^{-1} $ (at 1 keV), and cut-off energy 55 keV, after correcting for the effects of the Earth albedo and atmospheric emission (which are significant in the HE band). Based on the best-fit cut-off power law, we derived the spectral energy distribution (SED) of the DXRB. The shape of the SED is in general agreement with the published measurements, but the overall normalization is lower by varying amounts, except for the HEAO-1 result, with which our result is in good agreement., Comment: 9 pages, 14 figures, published in MNRAS

We introduce the New-ANGELS program, an XMM-Newton survey of $\sim7.2\rm~deg^2$ area around M 31, which aims to study the X-ray populations in M 31 disk and the X-ray emitting hot gas in the inner halo of M 31 up to 30 kpc. In this first paper, we report the catalogue of 4506 detected X-ray sources, and attempt to cross-identify or roughly classify them. We identify 352 single stars in the foreground, 35 globular clusters and 27 supernova remnants associated with M 31, as well as 62 AGNs, 59 galaxies, and 1 galaxy clusters in the background. We uniquely classify 236 foreground stars and 17 supersoft sources based on their X-ray colors. X-ray binaries (83 LMXBs, 1 HMXBs) are classified based on their X-ray colors and X-ray variabilities. The remaining X-ray sources either have too low S/N to calculate their X-ray colors or do not have a unique classification, so are regarded as unclassified. The X-ray source catalogue is published online. In this work we study particular TQFTs in three dimensions, known as Symmetry Topological Field Theories (or SymTFTs), to identify line defects of two-dimensional CFTs arising from the compactification of 6d $(2,0)$ SCFTs on 4-manifolds $M_4$. The mapping class group of $M_4$ and the automorphism group of the SymTFT switch between different absolute 2d theories or global variants. Using the combined symmetries, we realize the topological defects in these global variants. Our main example is $\mathbb{P}^1 \times \mathbb{P}^1$. For $N$ M5-branes the corresponding 2d theory inherits $\mathbb{Z}_N$ $0$-form symmetries from the SymTFT. We reproduce the orbifold groupoid for theories with $\mathbb{Z}_N$ $0$-form symmetries and realize the duality defects at fixed points of the coupling constant under elements of the mapping class group. We also study other Hirzebruch surfaces, del Pezzo surfaces, as well as the connected sum of $\mathbb{P}^1 \times \mathbb{P}^1$. We find a rich network of global variants connected via automorphisms and realize more interesting topological defects. Finally, we derive the SymTFT on more general 4-manifolds and provide two examples., Comment: 41 pages

We investigate the proposed holographic duality between the TsT transformation of IIB string theory on AdS$_3\times {\cal N}$ with NS-NS flux and a single-trace $T\bar{T}$ deformation of the symmetric orbifold CFT. We present a non-perturbative calculation of two-point correlation functions using string theory and demonstrate their consistency with those of the $T\bar{T}$ deformation. The two-point correlation function of the deformed theory on the plane, written in momentum space, is obtained from that of the undeformed theory by replacing $h$ with $h+2{\tilde \lambda\over w} p\bar p$, where $h$ is the spacetime conformal weight, $\tilde \lambda$ is a deformation parameter, $p$ and $\bar p$ are the momenta, and $w$ labels the twisted sectors in the deformed symmetric product. At $w=1$, the non-perturbative result satisfies the Callan-Symanzik equation for double-trace $T\bar T$ deformed CFT derived in \cite{Cardy:2019qao}. We also perform conformal perturbations on both the worldsheet CFT and the symmetric orbifold CFT as a sanity check. The perturbative and non-perturbative matching between results on the two sides provides further evidence of the conjectured TsT/$T\bar{T}$ correspondence., Comment: 35 pages; references added
