The present study aimed at surveying weed species in the banana tree (Musa sp.) intercropping with assai (Euterpe precatoria). The experiment was performed using a randomized complete block design with six treatments (monocultures and intercropping) and four replications. The weed species were identified and quantified, enabling the calculation of phytosociological parameters. The soil cover and the dry mass of the weeds were evaluated. In general, Mollugo verticillata is one of the main species found in the essay. The E. precatoria palm monoculture showed a greater diversity of weed species and individuals and dry mass of the aerial part. Areas with banana monoculture or under a banana intercropping with E. precatoria palm in different planting arrangements displayed the same amount of dry matter of the aerial part and similar soil cover levels. O presente estudo objetivou levantar espécies de plantas daninhas na bananeira (Musa sp.) consorciada com açaizeiro (Euterpe precatoria). O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento em blocos ao acaso, com seis tratamentos (monocultivos e consórcios) e quatro repetições. As espécies de plantas daninhas foram identificadas e quantificadas, possibilitando o cálculo de parâmetros fitossociológicos. A cobertura do solo e a massa seca das plantas daninhas foram avaliadas. Em geral, Mollugo verticillata foi uma das principais espécies encontradas no ensaio. A monocultura de E. precatoria apresentou maior diversidade de espécies de plantas daninhas e indivíduos, assim como maior massa seca da parte aérea. Áreas com monocultivo de bananeira ou consorciada com E. precatoria em diferentes arranjos de plantio apresentaram a mesma quantidade de matéria seca da parte aérea de plantas daninhas e níveis de cobertura do solo semelhantes. The polyculture systems guarantees food to small farmers, would ensure sustainable agriculture, high productivity per unit area and lessen the natural risks of agriculture. Within this context the objective of this study was to evaluate the production cost and profitability of an organic polyculture system comprising passion fruit, maize, pineapple and cassava in association with the cover crops. This research was carried out at the Seridó Ecological Farm, in the Municipality of Rio Branco, Acre State, from 2009 to 2011, in the completely randomized block design in a split plot arrangement with three repetitions and comprised plots containing passion fruit supported by espaliers located 3 m or 4 m apart. Plots were divided into subplots containing the cover crops jack-bean, crotalaria, tropical kudzu, peanut forage or spontaneous plants (treatments), and maize. The pineapple and cassava were planted between the espaliers. The effects of different cover crops were not so evident in plots with 3 m-spaced espaliers (P < 0.05) which increased productivity and production cost, providing a lower cost benefit ratio. The organic polyculture of passion fruit with pineapple, maize and cass in plots with 4 m-spaced espaliers, with the soil covered by jack bean increased total and net revenue, cost benefit ratio and economic feasibility. O policultivo garante alimentos para a agricultura familiar, contribui para a sustentabilidade no campo, aumenta a produtividade por unidade de área e reduz os riscos naturais da agricultura. Nesse contexto, o objetivo no presente estudo foi avaliar o custo de produção e a rentabilidade de um sistema de policultivo compreendendo maracujá, milho, abacaxi e mandioca em associação com as plantas de cobertura. Esta pesquisa foi realizada no Sítio Ecológico Seridó, no Município de Rio Branco, Acre, no período de 2009 a 2011, em delineamento de blocos completos casualizados em esquema de parcela subdividida com três repetições. As parcelas forma compostas por espaldeiras espaçadas 3 ou 4 m de distância. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho agronômico das culturas do milho e do capim-xaraés (Urochloa brizantha 'Xaraés') em consórcio, cultivadas em plantio direto e convencional, em sistema agrossilvipastoril, com a aplicação de diferentes doses de nitrogênio em cobertura. O experimento foi conduzido em área de cultivo de milho com a espécie florestal mulateiro (Calycophyllum spruceanum). Utilizou-se o delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso, com arranjo em parcelas subdivididas, com dois sistemas de manejo do solo (plantio direto e convencional com grade pesada) alocados nas parcelas e com cinco doses de adubação nitrogenada em cobertura (0, 50, 100, 150 e 200 kg ha-1 de N), nas subparcelas, o que totalizou dez tratamentos. A produtividade de grãos de milho respondeu linearmente à aplicação de N em área de plantio convencional. Em área de plantio direto, a dose de 165 kg ha-1 de N em cobertura foi necessária para a obtenção de produtividades satisfatórias. A adubação nitrogenada em cobertura na cultura do milho, até a dose de 200 kg ha-1 de N, não influencia o rendimento do capim-xaraés em consórcio nas entrelinhas, após a colheita do milho. The objective of this work was to evaluate the agronomic performance of the maize and xaraés palisade grass (Urochloa brizantha 'Xaraés') crops in intercropping, grown in no-tillage and conventional tillage, in an agrosilvopastoral system, with the application of different nitrogen topdressing rates. The experiment was conducted in a maize crop area with the forest species "mulateiro" (Calycophyllum spruceanum). The experimental design was randomized complete blocks, in a split-plot arrangement with two systems of soil management (no-tillage and conventional tillage with heavy disk) allocated to the plots and five rates of nitrogen topdressing (0, 50, 100, 150, and 200 kg ha-1 N) to the subplots, totaling ten treatments. Maize grain yield responded linearly to N application in area of conventional tillage. In no-tillage area, the dose of 165 kg ha-1 N topdressing was necessary to obtain satisfactory yields. Nitrogen topdressing in maize crop until the dose of 200 kg ha-1 N does not influence xaraés palisade grass yield when intercropped between the lines, after maize harvest.

The aims of this study were to evaluate the effects of shade in pineapple plant with cassava, on the yields of pineapple fruit sand cassava roots, on the morph-anatomical variation, damage by solar radiation and chlorophyll content of pineapple leaves. Pineapple plants were cultivated in plots comprising three parallel row sunder different shade conditions provided by cassava plants grown at various spacings within single rows located on either side of the plots. The experiment was of a randomized block design with five treatments (cassava spacings of 0.50, 0.75, 1.00 and 1.25 m and a pineapple monoculture) and four replications. Yields of fruits and roots, together with the morphological, chemical and histological characteristics of the "D" leaves of pineapple, were determined14 months after planting the pineapples plant. Data were submitted to analysis of variance with the Scott-Knott test or Friedman test ( P < 0.05) and to regression analysis. Pineapple plants grown under the majority of shade conditions presented higher fruit weight and overall yield per hectare in comparison with plants grown in direct sunlight. The maximum productivities of pineapple fruit were achieved when cassava plants were spaced 0.75 m apart and, under these shade conditions, fruits were fully protected against burning by the sun . The “D” leaves of shaded plants were longer and thicker, with higher content of chlorophyll a and total chlorophyll, reduced stomatal density and dimensions of stomatal pores, narrower guard cells, thinner aquiferous hypodermis, and reduced abaxial and adaxial epidermis. The yield of cassava roots per plant increased linearly with increasing distance between the plants, but the yield per hectare decreased with decreasing plant density.

O uso de leguminosas para cobertura do solo e suprimento de N é uma técnica importante na conservação do solo e redução dos custos em fertilizantes minerais. No sul do Brasil, o enfoque principal da pesquisa tem sido sobre espécies de ciclo hibernal. No presente estudo, avaliou-se o efeito do cultivo intercalar de quatro leguminosas estivais [feijão-de-porco (Canavalia ensiformis ), guandu anão (Cajanus cajan), mucuna cinza (Stizolobium niveum ) e soja preta (Glycine sp.)] no fornecimento de N e rendimento de grãos do milho, em três doses de N mineral (0, 60 e 120 kg ha-1), em comparação a um tratamento-testemunha, sem leguminosa. Dois experimentos foram realizados, em sistema de preparo mínimo-PM (1993 a 1997), com abertura de sulcos para semeadura do milho feita com arado de tração animal, e em sistema de preparo convencional-PC (1994 a 1997), com aração e duas gradagens na primavera-verão, num Latossolo Vermelho distroférrico, em Chapecó (SC). Na média das safras, a produção de matéria seca das leguminosas estivais variou de 1,26 a 5,48 Mg ha-1, e o N na fitomassa da parte aérea, de 31 a 132 kg ha-1. Em comparação ao tratamento-testemunha, sem N mineral, as leguminosas aumentaram o rendimento do milho em 17 a 93 % (423 a 2.256 kg ha-1), no PC, e em 12 a 43 % (281 a 1.030 kg ha-1), no PM, sendo estes incrementos equivalentes à aplicação de 12 a > 120 kg ha-1 de N mineral no PC e de 50 a 86 kg ha-1 de N mineral no PM. Portanto, o cultivo intercalar de leguminosas estivais, além de proteger o solo, representa uma técnica promissora no forneci-mento de N e aumento de rendimento do milho, recomendada principalmente para pequenas propriedades rurais, onde a colheita do milho é manual. The use of legume cover crops contributes to soil conservation and would be an economical N source to maize. Since only winter legumes were evaluated in southern Brazil, this study was carried out to assess the effect of four intercropped summer species (Canavalia ensiformis, Cajanus cajan, Stizolobium niveum and Glycine sp.) on N supply and maize yield increase, in comparison with a control treatment, without legume cover crops. Cropping system effects on maize crop were evaluated under three mineral N rates (0, 60 and 120 kg ha-1), in two individual long-term trials, under reduced tillage (RT) or conventional tillage (CT), from 1993 to 1998. Both experiments were conducted on a Hapludox in the northwest of Santa Catarina State. Averaged across years, dry matter yield of legume species varied from 1.26 to 5.48 Mg ha-1, and N in aboveground phytomass from 31 to 132 kg ha-1. In comparison with the control treatment, without cover crops and mineral N, the legumes increased maize yield in a magnitude that ranged from 17 to 93 % (423 to 2256 kg ha-1) on CT, and from 12 to 43 % (281 to 1031 kg ha-1) on RT, and these increments were equivalent to those promoted by amounts of mineral N varying from 12 to > 120 kg ha-1 under CT, and from 50 to 86 kg ha-1, under RT. Besides protecting the soil, cultivation of summer legumes in a maize-legume intercrop enhances N availability and maize yield in the following season. Thus, it is an alternative N source, especially for small farms where maize is manually harvested.

O trabalho foi desenvolvido na UFGD em Dourados-MS, entre setembro de 2012 e maio de 2013. As plantas dos clones de taro e das cultivares de alface foram alocadas no campo em experimento conjunto, constituindo onze tratamentos, arranjados no delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. A colheita das plantas de alface foi realizada aos 50 dias após o transplantio – DAT e as dos clones Verde, Macaquinho e Chinês foi aos 190, 210 e 240 dias após o plantio – DAP, respectivamente. Os maiores números de cabeças comercializáveis foram das plantas de alface Crespa consorciadas com as do taro ‘Verde’ (119.790,00 cabeças ha-1), que superaram em 79.170,00 cabeças ha-1, em relação ao cultivo consorciado das plantas de alface Crespa com as do taro ‘Chinês’, que teve o menor valor. Verificou-se que as plantas dos clones de taro apresentaram alturas máximas de 58,46 cm no clone Chinês aos 112 DAP; 47,15 cm no ‘Verde’ aos 124 DAP e de 43,26 cm no ‘Macaquinho’ aos 133 DAP. As maiores massas fresca e seca de rizoma filho comercializável foram das plantas do clone Verde cultivadas solteiras, superando em 15,43 e 4,02 t ha-1, respectivamente, às médias das plantas do taro ‘Verde’ e ‘Macaquinho’ consorciadas com as de alface ‘Americana’, que tiveram os menores valores. Considerando a renda líquida por hectare, todos os consórcios seriam recomendados para o produtor de taro mas para o produtor de alface foram mais viáveis os consórcios das plantas dos taros ‘Verde’ e ‘Macaquinho’ com as de alface ‘Crespa’ e do taro ‘Chinês’ com as de alface ‘Americana’. Concluiu-se que para se obter maior produtividade e renda líquida, os produtores de plantas de taro e de alface devem preferir o cultivo consorciado das plantas dos clones de taro Verde com as de alface da cultivar Crespa. The aim of this work was to determine the agroeconomic yield of ‘Chinês’, ‘Macaquinho’ and ‘Verde’ taro clones in the monocrop system, as well as in the intercropping with iceberg and crisphead lettuce cultivation. The study has been carried out at Universidade Federal da Grande Dourados (UFGD) in Dourados-MS, between September 2012 and May 2013. The taro clones and the lettuce cultivation were allocated in the field in a joint experiment, consisting of 11 treatments, all arranged in the experimental delineation of casualized blocks, with four repetitions. The lettuce was cropped 50 days after the transplanting – DAT and the Verde, Macaquinho and Chinês taro clones were cropped 190, 210 and 240 days after planting – DAP, respectively. The largest numbers of marketable heads were the crisphead lettuce crops intercropped with ‘Verde’ taro (119.790,00 heads ha-1), which overcame by 79.170,00 heads ha-1 in relation to the intercropped cultivation of crisphead lettuce and ‘Chinês’ taro, which showed the lowest results. The Chinês taro-clone plants registered maximum height of 58,46cm at 112 DAP; the tallest ‘Verde’ taro-plant clones were 47,15cm tall at 124 DAP and the ‘Macaquinho’ taro-clone pants recorded 43,26cm at 133 DAP. The greatest fresh and dry mass cormels that were marketable were the monocropped ‘Verde’ taro-clone plants, which surpassed by 15,43 and 4,02 t ha-1, respectively, the average of ‘Verde’ and ‘Macaquinho’ taro plants intercropped with iceberg lettuce, which recorded the lowest numbers. Considering the net income per hectare, all the intercrops would be feasible for the taro producers, but the lettuce producers would have an increased profit it they adopted the intercrop of ‘Verde’ and ‘Macaquinho’ taro plants with crisphead lettuce, and ‘Chinês’ taro plants with iceberg lettuce. As a conclusion, in order to obtain an increased yield and net income, the taro and lettuce producers would rather cultivate ‘Verde’ taro-clone plants intercropped with crisphead lettuce.

O uso de leguminosas constitui boa alternativa para suprir N e aumentar o rendimento das culturas comerciais. A aceitação desta prática por agricultores e extensionistas, entretanto, depende da demonstração de sua vantagem econômica em relação ao sistema tradicional. Neste estudo, avaliou-se o efeito do cultivo intercalar de quatro leguminosas estivais de cobertura do solo [feijão de porco (Canavalia ensiformis L.), guandu (Cajanus cajan L.) cv. roxo anão, mucuna cinza (Stizolobium niveum Kuntze) e soja preta (Glycine sp)] sobre a receita líquida da cultura do milho, em três doses de N (0, 60 e 120 kg ha-1), comparativamente ao sistema tradicional de milho exclusivamente (testemunha). Dois experimentos foram realizados, durante quatro e cinco anos, respectivamente, em sistemas de preparo convencional (PC) e preparo reduzido (PR), num Latossolo Vermelho distroférrico, em Chapecó (SC), sendo os resultados apresentados na média das safras. A cultura do milho, sem leguminosa e sem adubação nitrogenada, apresentou uma receita líquida de 45 R$ ha-1 no PC e de 72 R$ ha-1 no PR. O cultivo intercalar das leguminosas promoveu incrementos na receita líquida da cultura do milho que variaram de 64 a 312 R$ ha-1 (142 a 693%), no PC, e de 57 a 147 R$ ha-1 (79 a 204%), no PR, na ausência de adubação nitrogenada. Mesmo com aplicação de N, as leguminosas promoveram aumento na receita líquida da cultura do milho, porém de menor magnitude. O cultivo intercalar de leguminosas estivais de cobertura do solo demonstrou-se uma alternativa viável para aumentar a receita líquida da cultura do milho. Os benefícios econômicos obtidos com esta prática provavelmente compensam o aumento em mão-de-obra. Legumes cover-crops represent a good alternative to supply N as well as to improve yield of commercial crops. The acceptance of this technique by growers and extension agents, however, depends on its economical advantage in relation to traditional systems. In this study, the effect of four summer legumes cover-crops (Canavalia ensiformis, Cajanus cajan, Stizolobium niveum and Glycine sp), was evaluated in association with three N rates (0, 60 and 120 kg ha-1), on the net income of corn. Two medium-term (4- and 5-yr) experiments were carried out, respectively, under conventional tillage (CT) and reduced tillage (RT), in the Northwest of Santa Catarina State, Brazil. In absence of cover-crops and mineral N, corn production gave a net income of 25 and 40 U$ ha-1 (1 U$ = 1.80 R$), respectively, on CT and on RT. The use of cover-crops raised the net income from 35 to 173 U$ ha-1 (142 a 693%) under CT, and from 32 to 82 U$ ha-1 (79 a 204%) under RT, in absence of N. When N was applied, the economic benefits of such crops were smaller, but still advantageous. Thus, cultivation of summer legumes in the inter-rows of corn, as cover-crops, has economical advantages, probably enough to off-set the higher costs of family labor involved.

Foram realizados experimentos, em Dourados, MS (2009 e 2010), e em Botucatu, SP (2010). Utilizou-se o delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso, com parcelas subdivididas e quatro repetições. As parcelas com feijão‑caupi foram constituídas por três sistemas de cultivo (em faixas com variedade ou híbrido de milho, além do cultivo solteiro) e as subparcelas, por três cultivares de feijão‑caupi (BRS Guariba, BRS Novaera e BRS Xiquexique). As parcelas com milho foram constituídas por duas cultivares de milho (variedade BR 473 e híbrido BRS 1030 ou BRS 1010), e as subparcelas, por quatro sistemas de cultivo (em faixas com as três cultivares de feijão‑caupi e solteiro). O sistema de consórcio em faixas consistiu de quatro fileiras de feijão‑caupi com quatro fileiras de milho. O consórcio proporcionou um uso mais eficiente da terra. As cultivares de feijão‑caupi apresentaram desempenho produtivo semelhante entre si, quando cultivadas em faixas com o milho. O híbrido de milho é mais produtivo que a variedade, tanto no cultivo solteiro quanto no consorciado. The objective of this work was to evaluate the agronomic performance of cowpea and corn cultivars in single cropping and in strip‑intercropping in the off-season. The experiments were carried out in Dourados, MS (2009 and 2010), and Botucatu, SP (2010), Brazil. A randomized complete block design was used, in a split‑plot arrangement with four replicates. The plots with cowpea consisted of three cropping systems (intercropped with corn variety or corn hybrid, and single cropped), and the subplots of three cowpea cultivars (BRS Guariba, BRS Novaera, and BRS Xiquexique). The plots with corn consisted of two corn cultivars (variety BR 473 and hybrid BRS 1030 or BRS 1010), and the subplots of four cropping systems (intercropped with the three cowpea cultivars and single cropped). The strip‑intercropping system consisted of four rows of cowpea and four rows of corn. The intercropping led to a more efficient use of the land. Yield performance between cowpea cultivars did not differ when they were strip‑intercropped with corn cultivars. The corn hybrid was more productive than the variety, both in single cropping and in intercropping. Soil cover with legume plants is an alternative cropping method of integrated weed management, whose characteristics of the species intercropped with coffee plants might interfere physically, chemically and biologically in the crop and in the weeds. The objective of this work was to evaluate the potential of herbaceous legumes in the weed management in the interrows in the coffee crops. Therefore, two experiments were established in the region of Zona da Mata in the Atlantic Wood bioma and one experiment was set in Alto Paranaíba in the Cerrado bioma, both of which hold part of the coffee production in Minas Gerais. The coffee plantations in the Zona da Mata region have a marked slope, narrow spacing and limited mechanization and Alto Paranaíba region is characterized by coffee plantations with a flat relief, broad spacing and continuous mechanization. The experiment in Zona da Mata was conducted in Viçosa, MG, one in a bearing Catuaí Vermelho cultivar coffee crop, with a 3 x 1 m spacing, with more closed interrows because of the crown of the coffee plants, reducing weed infestation. The other experiment was set in a crop with newly pruned coffee plants, Catuaí Vermelho cultivar, with 3 x 1 m spacing, with open interrows, increasing weed infestation, which was favored by increased exposition to light. It was used a random block experimental design in both experiments with four replicates, made up of eight treatments in 3 x 2 + 2 factorial scheme, which were as follows: three legume species(forage peanut (Arachispintoi), siratro (Macroptilium atropurpureum) and lablabe (Dolichos lablab); and two planting forms with two and three rows of legumes centralized at the interrows of the coffee plants, spaced by 0.50 and 0.25 m in the bearing coffee crop and by 1.0 and 0.50 m in the newly pruned coffee crop, respectively. The two additional treatments for those experiments consisted of hand weedings with a hoe and chemical control with glyphosate. The experiment in Alto Paranaíba was conducted in Patrocínio, MG, set up in a bearing coffee crop at eight years of age, cultivar catuaí IAC-99 with a spacing of 3.80 x 0.70 m. It was used a random block experimental design with four replicates, constituted of ten treatments in a 4 x 2 + 2 factorial scheme, which were as follows: four species of perennial legumes (forage peanut (Arachispintoi), java hybrid (Macrotyloma axillare), perennial soybean (Neonotonia wightii) and wild ground nut (Calopogonium mucunoides)) and two planting forms with two and three rows of legumes centralized in the interrows of the coffee plants, spaced by 0.50 and 0.25 m, respectively. The two additional treatments consisted of hand weeding with a hoe and chemical control with glyphosate. It was found in the experiments in Zona da Mata that lablabe provided the greatest soil cover, the greatest predominance of the vegetation on the weeds and the smallest weed infestation at 90 and 120 days DAP. Lablabe and forage peanut presented higher biomass yields in its first and second year, respectively. Lablabe and siratro and forage peanut provided the smallest density and biomass of the weeds, in their first and second year, respectively. Legume promoted higher soil moisture and less weed infestation in the first year in comparison to the additional treatments. There were no differences of influence on soil moisture, plant height and yield of the coffee plant among the legume species and among the additional treatments. In Alto Paranaíba, it was found that the java hybrid maintained the highest biomass yield and forage peanut expanded soil cover in the two years. Legumes promoted the least infestation density and the poorest weed biomass yield in the two years intercropping with the coffee crop compared to the additional treatments. Java hybrid, wild ground nut and forage peanut in the first year and the hybrid of Java and pinto soybean, followed by pinto soybean in the second year, promoted the smallest density and biomass of the weeds. The number of productive nodes and coffee yield did not differ among when legumes and additional treatments were compared. In all the experiments, the cultivation of two or three rows of legumes did not differ from each other in soil cover, in weeds and in the coffee crop. Herbaceous legumes intercropped with coffee reduce weed infestation and it is an alternative culture practice of integrated management for that population, contributing towards the decrease of herbicide application and weeding labour. A cobertura do solo com leguminosas constitui um método cultural alternativo de manejo integrado das plantas daninhas, cujas características da espécie consorciada com cafeeiros podem promover interferências físicas, químicas e biológicas na cultura e nas plantas daninhas. Com o objetivo de avaliar o potencial de leguminosas herbáceas no manejo das plantas daninhas nas entrelinhas dos cafeeiros, foram implantados dois experimentos na região da Zona da Mata, no bioma Mata Atlântica, e um experimento na região do Alto Paranaíba, no bioma Cerrado, as quais detêm parte da produção de café em Minas Gerais. A Zona da Mata possui os cafezais com declividade acentuada, espaçamento estreito e mecanização limitada, e o Alto Paranaíba é caracterizado por cafezais com relevo plano, espaçamento largo e mecanização constante. Os experimentos na Zona da Mata foram conduzidos em Viçosa, MG, sendo um em lavoura de café em produção, cultivar Catuaí Vermelho, com espaçamento de 3 x 1 m, tendo as entrelinhas mais fechadas pela copa dos cafeeiros com influência na redução da infestação de plantas daninhas. O outro experimento foi em lavoura de cafeeiros recém-recepados, cultivar Catuaí Vermelho, com espaçamento 3 x 1 m, tendo as entrelinhas abertas com maior incremento na infestação das plantas daninhas sido favorecidas pela maior exposição à luz. O delineamento experimental dos dois experimentos foi em blocos casualizados com quatro repetições, constituído por oito tratamentos em esquema fatorial 3 x 2 + 2, sendo três espécies de leguminosas: amendoim-forrageiro (Arachis pintoi), siratro (Macroptilium atropurpureum) e lablabe (Dolichos lablab); e duas formas de plantio com duas e três linhas de leguminosas centralizadas nas entrelinhas dos cafeeiros, respectivamente, espaçadas de 0,50 e 0,25 m no café em produção e de 1,0 e 0,50 m no café recém-recepado. Os dois tratamentos adicionais desses experimentos consistiram na capina manual com enxada e no controle químico com glyphosate. O experimento no Alto Paranaíba foi conduzido em Patrocínio, MG, instalado numa lavoura de café em produção com 8 anos de idade, cultivar Catuaí IAC-99, com espaçamento de 3,80 x 0,70 m. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados com quatro repetições, constituídos por 10 tratamentos em esquema fatorial 4 x 2 + 2, sendo quatro espécies de leguminosas perenes: amendoim- forrageiro (Arachis pintoi), híbrido de Java (Macrotyloma axillare), soja perene (Neonotonia wightii) e calopogônio (Calopogonium mucunoides); e duas formas de plantio com duas e três linhas de leguminosas centralizadas nas entrelinhas dos cafeeiros, espaçadas 0,50 e 0,25 m, respectivamente. Os dois tratamentos adicionais consistiram da capina manual com enxada e do controle químico com glyphosate. Na Zona da Mata, verificou-se, nos dois experimentos aos 90 e 120 DAP, que a leguminosa lablabe proporcionou maior cobertura do solo, maior predomínio da vegetação sobre as plantas daninhas e menor infestação destas plantas. A lablabe no primeiro ano e o amendoim-forrageiro no segundo apresentaram maior produção de biomassa. As leguminosas lablabe e siratro no primeiro ano e o amendoim- forrageiro no segundo proporcionaram menor densidade e biomassa das plantas daninhas. As leguminosas, em comparação com os tratamentos adicionais, promoveram maior umidade do solo e menor infestação das plantas daninhas no primeiro ano. Entre as espécies de leguminosas e entre os tratamentos adicionais, não houve diferença de influência na umidade do solo, na altura de planta e na produtividade dos cafeeiros. No Alto Paranaíba, constatou-se, nos dois anos, que o híbrido de Java manteve a maior produção de biomassa e o amendoim-forrageiro expandiu a cobertura do solo. As leguminosas, em comparação com os tratamentos adicionais, promoveram a menor densidade de infestação e a menor produção de biomassa das plantas daninhas nos dois anos de consórcio com a cultura do café. O híbrido de Java, calopogônio e o amendoim forrageiro no primeiro ano e o híbrido de Java e a soja perene seguidas do amendoim- forrageiro no segundo ano promoveram menor densidade e menor biomassa das plantas daninhas. Na comparação das leguminosas com os tratamentos adicionais, entre as leguminosas e entre os tratamentos adicionais, não se diferenciaram o número de nós produtivos e a produtividade de café. Em todos os experimentos, o cultivo de duas ou três linhas de leguminosas não diferiu entre si na cobertura do solo, nas plantas daninhas e na cultura do café. A consorciação de leguminosa herbácea na lavoura de café diminuiu a infestação das plantas daninhas e constitui prática cultural alternativa de manejo integrado dessa população, contribuindo para a redução da aplicação de herbicidas e serviço de capinas.
