This research draws on the theory of culture in action, which explains how consumers selectively mobilize their cultural repertoires to understand and solve daily problems. Contemporary life, however, is increasingly unsettled, challenging the adequacy of consumers' repertoires and how they use existing institutional cultural resources. This qualitative study identifies four ways in which consumers use their cultural repertoires and institutional resources during unsettled times. Formulaic uses are when consumers mobilize familiar cultural tools and existing resources to resettle. Versatile uses are when consumers develop new cultural tools to transform while working within demanding institutional resources. Freewheeling uses are when consumers mobilize familiar cultural tools for play but rework institutional resources to be less demanding. Finally, troubleshooting uses are when consumers extend their existing cultural tools to suffice but reject institutional resources. These varied uses of culture capture how consumers either mobilize or develop their cultural repertoires and institutional resources to serve different ends. This study provides a more dynamic, pragmatic, and nuanced explanation of how consumers summon culture to solve problems during unsettled times. This paper utilizes critical race theory (CRT) to identify inequalities perpetuated by racialized epistemicide, the race-based discriminatory destruction of knowledge, through the loss of cultural heritage and the limitation of access to accurate narratives. We introduce the term reparative storytelling as a way to describe work centering oral and performance-based ways of knowing and remembering that establish the evidence needed for dignity, healing, and justice. By discussing the history of library services to the Black community in Huntsville, Alabama, this paper explains how racism and urban renewal perpetuated racialized epistemic injustice by destroying cultural heritage and narratives of marginalized communities. We demonstrate strategies and tools that can be used to unsilence library history and give people access to their past by using counternarratives for reparative storytelling. Water has been a factor in wars and other violent conflicts for thousands of years. Water can be a trigger of conflict, a casualty of conflict, or a weapon of conflict. In modern times, water-related conflicts appear to be increasing in number, with many of these occurring at the sub-state level, such as between opposing militant groups or between groups with different ethnic and cultural heritages. Action to prevent, mitigate, and recover from these conflicts is possible and available, but insufficiently applied. Investments in the broader effort to create more equitable, sustainable, resilient societies are urgently needed. The good news is that we no longer lack the technological capability to create that world, and action at all levels of society, from the local to the global, will help to foster peace and sustain and protect water resources for everyone. Owners value heritage goods, items that connect them to a shared past, whether through their alma mater or their family history. This research considers the impact of heritage on owners who wish to sell such goods. In five studies, the authors demonstrate that sellers have a lower willingness to accept when selling heritage goods to buyers with a shared heritage connection relative to buyers without this connection (i.e., a heritage discount). This heritage discount cannot be explained by ingroup favoritism, sentimental value, or appropriateness of buyer usage and persists even when sellers perceive that the buyer has a higher willingness to pay. The authors provide process evidence that the effect of the buyer's identity on the seller's willingness to accept is driven by concerns about heritage loss. The findings contribute to literatures on sharing, sentimental goods, psychological ownership, and the endowment effect and have marketing implications for consumer goods (e.g., collectibles) that derive product value by connecting consumers to meaningful history and traditions. Background: The Australian population is highly diverse in terms of cultural heritage, languages spoken, and geographical dispersion. Health outcomes are often worse among these culturally, linguistically, and geographically diverse populations, and this is reflected in rates of physical activity participation, with people from these groups often engaging in insufficient physical activity for health benefits. This research aimed to investigate if physical activity intervention studies conducted in Australia were (1) designed to recruit culturally, linguistically, and geographically diverse participants and (2) recruiting culturally, linguistically, and geographically diverse participants. Methods: We conducted a systematic review of physical activity intervention studies conducted in adults in Australia between 2015 and November 2022. Information relevant to inclusivity in study recruitment methods and diversity of recruited participants was extracted. Results: We identified and extracted data from 371 studies, of which 98 were protocol papers for which no follow-up data was available. Only 26 studies (7%) included methods to recruit culturally or linguistically diverse participants. Most studies (189, 51%) recruited participants from major city locations, with few studies recruiting from more remote locations. No studies included recruitment from very remote regions. Information on cultural, linguistic, or geographic diversity of participants recruited to physical activity studies was provided by 109 studies (40% of studies including results) with the majority recruiting White, English-speakers from major cities. Conclusions: Few Australian physical activity studies are designed to recruit culturally, linguistically, and geographically diverse participants. This theoretical article and applied case study examines the concept of academic research libraries adopting concepts that emphasize building the future rather than passively reacting through incrementalism and risk aversion which is standard practice. These include Peter Thiel's "Zero to One" theory, Power Law concepts, and Nassim Taleb's Black Swan theory, with the application of Lean Kaizen toward foundational existing systems. These concepts, taken together, catalyze the preparation for inevitable disruptive change. With them, there exists an opportunity to reduce the current climate of risk aversion and persistent incrementalism, stagnated growth, ineffectual leadership, and decreased morale and talent retention currently present within the industry. In a time where all industries are facing constant disruption that continues to compound, libraries and other cultural heritage institutions must take the initiative to challenge and change internally by building our future before we are disrupted by other more undesirable forces. In shifting away from incrementalism and risk-aversion, and focusing on building the future through calculated risks, constant experimentation, groundbreaking ideation, operational excellence, and strategies, libraries can redefine their roles, ensure relevance, and achieve long-term success in an ever-evolving ecosystem. This article introduces a 13-point comprehensive framework that integrates the preceding applicable theories that emphasize local innovation, agility, operational excellence, and a focus on embracing the Power Law, which contends that positive outcomes in every system are heavily skewed, and to win big we need to embrace these outliers and take balanced and calculated risks to succeed in an unknown future. Institutions in the GLAM (galleries, libraries, archives, and museums) sector serve the public as institutions for cultural heritage, identity, education, experience, and leisure. The goals of these institutions are becoming more closely aligned and they have shared a turn from being collection-centred to a focus on users and visitors. When these institutions also face similar challenges brought on especially by digitalization, there is increasing discourse in scholarly literature and among GLAM professionals about the drivers, impacts and opportunities of convergence for the sector. There remains however, scant empirical examination of user/visitor perception and experience of such convergence. This research addresses this knowledge gap and investigates a converged GLAM case institution, Te Ara 'Atea in New Zealand through a user/visitor survey. The survey findings suggest that users/visitors perceive and experience fewer issues with convergence relative to benefits. A novel insight from this research is that the concept of GLAM convergence can positively contribute to cultural and community wellbeing. As for perceived issue within the convergence space, of particular interest is the concept of unsanctioned touch of displayed objects/artworks, and the alleged unclear behavioral norms in converged environments. To enhance the strength and antimicrobial properties of paper cultural relics, and prolong the life of paper cultural relics, it is an urgent need to prepare new material for preservation and protection of paper. In this paper, CMC-β-CD-SG was synthesized with β-CD as carrier and sulfaguanidine as inclusion complex, the suitable conditions for the synthesis of CMC-β-CD-sulfaguanidine was obtained. By testing the effects of different mass concentrations of sulfaguanidine solution on the tensile strength, tearing degree, folding times, whiteness, gloss and antimicrobial properties of the paper, the suitable conditions for coating paper were found. The results show that when inclusion mass concentration of 3 mg/mL is coated on the paper, its mechanical properties are improved, the gloss is slightly increased, and the whiteness is basically unchanged. At the same time, the paper has certain antimicrobial properties, which is in line with the principle of “repairing the old as old”. CMC-β∼CD-SG studied in this paper exhibits properties of reinforcing, slow-releasing and antimicrobial activity for paper protection, which is an innovation of paper protection material, provides the theoretical basis and data reference, as well as a new research idea and technical approach for the development of products for paper protection. In recent years, in parallel with technological innovations, the use of modern techniques instead of traditional methods has become widespread in studies on archiving, preserving, restoring and visiting cultural heritage (CH) in the digital environment. Reality technologies, advanced measurement methods in engineering and mobile applications have brought a multidisciplinary perspective to the subject of sustainability of CH sites and visiting them within the scope of tourism. This study investigates the contribution of studies carried out with the latest technological opportunities in CH areas to sustainability and tourism activities. It reveals with the most concrete examples how the fastest LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology used in remote sensing of concrete objects, as well as close range photogrammetry and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) photogrammetry applications can be integrated into the sustainability of CH and reality technologies. The three-dimensional (3D) images obtained in this way have enabled world-famous ancient cities, museums, natural and archaeological sites to be visited virtually with the help of augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR) applications. This article explores the role of cultural heritage in immigrant integration processes in Norway since 2000. Drawing on the idea that policy documents reflect heritage management regimes, it analyses how contemporary immigrants’ cultural diversity is framed and whether heritage management tools acknowledge a role in integrating them. The analysis uses documents by the Norwegian government and its administrative body, the Directorate for Cultural Heritage, to explore how cultural diversity instructs the management and assessment of cultural heritage, and how the heritage of immigration is positioned in this managerial regime. The article discusses how this positionality within policy documents facilitates cultural heritage as a driver in integration processes. The results show that current tools for making heritage a driver for immigrant integration have an epistemological framework that prevents the sector from embracing cultural diversity. This article problematises the names of two spaces of public memory in northern Zambia (South-Central Africa), the Moto Moto Museum and the Kalambo Falls Heritage Site, to illustrate the unequal power dynamics in place. It argues that both names are rooted in coloniality, perpetuating the erasure and downscaling of local historical voices and narratives. Moto Moto upscales the legacy of White religious figures while erasing the contribution of indigenous actors. Similarly, Kalambo reflects colonial control through the normalisation of mispronounced African words, stripping them of their original meaning and diminishing local cultural heritage. The article concludes with an exploration of how names of spaces of public memory in the linguistic landscape may carry a colonial heritage that surreptitiously reinforces the dominance of colonial narratives while diminishing local historical narratives and voices, resulting in the distortion of history and the sentiments of local people. The objective of this study is to explore the national identity in the poetry of Arar through his use of the Jordanian landscapes. The study uses the analytical method to explore the Jordanian landscape symbols that Arar in poems. The results showed that Arar employed different landscapes of the Jordanian nature in forming a poetic identity that reflects his deep connection, patriotism, longing, loyalty, and belonging to his homeland. The study recommends conducting more studies about the relationship between nature, landscapes, and identity in Arar's poetry and other Jordanian poets to highlight the role of poetry in promoting national patriotism. This study aims to analyze the nutrient profile, carbon and water footprints of traditional menus across geographical regions of Türkiye. The recipes were selected from cookbooks and were analyzed through Google Trends. The menus showed significantly higher levels of energy, protein, carbohydrates and several vitamins and minerals (p < 0.05). Carbon footprint analysis revealed Southeast Anatolia had the highest footprint (5.54 ± 0.55 kg CO2 eq/d), while Central Anatolia had the lowest (2.01 ± 0.23 kg CO2 eq/d) (p < 0.05). Water footprint data indicated Marmara had the highest values (4165.03 ± 386.95 L/kg/d), with Central Anatolia having lowest (1132.14 ± 101.18 L/kg/d) (p < 0.05). However, no statistically significant differences were observed between traditional menus and the EAT-Lancet Planetary Diet. These findings highlight the importance of developing sustainability strategies that preserve cultural heritage while promoting plant-based ingredients, seasonal and local foods, and eco-friendly cooking methods to mitigate environmental impact. The world is in crisis. The ongoing wars in Ukraine and the Middle East have made the relative peace in East Asia more precious and puzzling. While Asia’s unique balance of power, developmental model, and cultural heritage have played a role in maintaining this relative peace, an often-overlooked factor is the peace-oriented multilateral arrangements established in the post-Cold War era. However, the intensifying competition between the US and China has led to over-deterrence, with both nations resorting to excessive measures to deter each other, as well as to the proliferation of security minilaterals in the region. This paper focuses on 262 traditional villages (TVs) and 189 nationally recognized intangible cultural heritage (ICH) items in the upper Yellow River basin (YRB). Using nuclear density, distribution equilibrium and other research methods., this paper tries to reveal the spatial relationship between TVs and ICH, and analyzes its influencing factors. Through an analysis of influencing factors, the study identifies pathways for their integrated development. The findings are as follows: (1) There are significant differences in the spatial distribution of TVs and ICH in the upper YRB. TVs exhibit a "multi-core aggregation, dispersed concentration" pattern, with a high degree of imbalance at the provincial (or autonomous region) level. In contrast, ICH shows a "sparse south, dense center, and sparse north" distribution, with a lower degree of imbalance at the provincial level. (2) Although there is generally a high degree of spatial alignment between TVs and ICH, but at the provincial (or autonomous region) level, three types of regional displacements have been identified: high positive displacement, low positive displacement, and high negative displacement. (3) Factors such as altitude, river systems, temperature conditions, regional economy, accessibility, population density, urbanization rate, cultural characteristics, and funding policies significantly influence the spatial distribution of TVs and ICH. urbanization rate has a common influence and explanatory power on the spatial distribution of both TVsand ICH in the YRB, with altitude, financial policies, cultural history, and other factors having secondary influence and explanatory power.These factors are crucial in determining the pathways for their integrated development. Previous studies suggested that associations between sociodemographic characteristics and university belonging varied between subject groups. In particular, female (first-generation) students in STEM subjects were assumed to experience a "chilly climate" that was reflected in their lower levels of university belonging. But less is known about the demographic and psychological prerequisites of the university belonging of international students. In this cross-sectional study we investigated how gender, parental academic background, students' cultural background (i.e., region of origin) and their cultural resources (i.e., study-related language skills and acculturation orientations) as well as their intersectional interplay related to the university belonging of international STEM students in Germany and compared the results to a sample of international non-STEM students. Stepwise multi-group regression analyses with cross-sectional data of N = 1,590 degree-seeking international bachelor students (nSTEM = 882, nnon-STEM = 708) at the end of their first semester in Germany did not reveal substantial differences in the level and predictors of university belonging between STEM and non-STEM international students. In both subject groups, there was no main effect of gender but some significant interactions between gender and cultural background (i.e., region of origin). First-generation students showed lower levels of university belonging than continuous-generation students. Higher levels of study-related language skills and host-culture orientation were consistently related to higher levels of university belonging but none of these variables interacted with gender. The results corroborate the need for further (intersectional) research to adequately capture the heterogeneity amongst international STEM students. In this paper, we explore what it means to link heritage to the everyday, how this has been framed in the field of heritage studies to date and how engagement with the everyday might generate future opportunities for heritage practice. We highlight distinctive aspects of everyday heritage, including its post-representative nature, the importance of urban activism, digital and historical forms of cultural participation, as well as its aesthetic re-framing of the ordinary. We conclude that while the term is often used to describe a non-hegemonic, unofficial form of heritage, everyday heritage tends to merge the authorised and the unauthorised. The promulgation and implementation of a protection system for Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) has provided a new legal path for transforming cultural capital and solidifying the modern values of Chinese folk martial arts. However, different folk martial arts have formed differentiated evaluations and social statuses by transmitting and reproducing cultural capital across generations. Through the field investigation of Sichuan Wushu Intangible Cultural Heritage (WICH) projects, this study discusses the relationship between the status and influence of WICH and the operation of cultural capital. The findings demonstrate that the WICH inheritance group continues to pass down and transform embodied cultural capital through the inheritance relationship network while constructing and expanding the project's objective cultural capital. In doing so, they maintain and strengthen the project's established reputation and social status. Therefore, cultural capital and the path of capital reproduction of folk martial arts formed in the traditional inheritance field affect the acquisition of WICH status. A comprehensive clarification of the positive role of cultural capital in the acquisition of WICH status can provide a reference for the modern transformation and continuation of the value system of WICH projects at different levels. This article examines the heritagization process of the highland flute-making community of Walata Grande, focusing on the environmental sustainability of native woody bamboos used in flute making in the Bolivian Andes. It explores how Aymara flute makers' involvement in national cultural heritage politics intersects with broader ecological issues of resource use and environmental sustainability from an ecomusicological perspective. Through ethnographic fieldwork among flute makers, bamboo traders, and cultural heritage state officials, I analyse how Walateño flute makers view their cultural heritage as a means of decolonisation, economic protectionism, and tourist promotion. Simultaneously, they avoid discussions about musical bamboos due to concerns over losing autonomy in the management of an essential resource. I conclude that the intangible cultural heritage initiative in highland flute making offers only a limited solution to the challenges of sustaining musical bamboos. Although UNESCO's Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) advocates for the constant recreation of ICH by heritage communities, it is crucial to consider the material economic structures in which these cultural recreations are embedded and their ecological and environmental implications, especially given the current context of musical bamboo unsustainability. This paper explores quadruple helix ecosystems, cultural hubs, and living labs as models for transformative partnerships for higher education institutions (HEIs) as they move towards more open, co-operative, and co-creative research and innovation formats for public good. The transition of HEIs from mode 2 to mode 3 institutions prompts a cultural shift in HEIs that involves ongoing reimagination and reconfiguration. Here, the paper introduces and connects the quadruple helix ecosystem, living labs, and public good as a way for HEIs to revitalise themselves and their societal role. Following this, the model of cultural hubs is put forward as a way for partners to meet in the middle to co-create for, in, and with the world. Here, the Horizon Europe EPIC-WE research and innovation project serves as a guiding example with its specific emphasis on co-operative research-making, culture-making, and innovation-making between higher education institutions (HEI), creative industries (CI), cultural heritage institutions (CHI), and youth citizens (YC). Within EPIC-WE, cultural hubs are positioned as having the potential to act as cross-sector, transdisciplinary mediators that support the quadruple helix partners in moving towards transformative partnerships and empowered participation for public good(s) together. This empirical study explores migrant inclusion in the linguistically diverse city of Glasgow. The particular focus is on the minoritisation of emergent speakers of English, who can find it especially difficult to access support. The research involved in-depth interviews with professionals at third-sector organisations supporting people with a refugee or migrant background. Interviewees gave examples of flexible communicative practices that support migrant inclusion. Such communicative practices can be understood in terms of translanguaging: the way that speakers fluidly draw on their full linguistic repertoires to make meaning. The analysis indicates that language minoritisation can be reduced when services better reflect the linguistic diversity of community members who access them. The examples given show how organisations can embrace linguistic diversity in ways that appear to enable inclusion, valuing the linguistic and cultural resources of recently arrived and settled community members. Historic street layouts are integral to historic districts' tangible cultural heritage and are intricately linked to the residents' daily lives; however, existing studies have only examined their spatial aspects, primarily using quantitative methods. Conversely, studies on tangible cultural heritage's impact on residents' lives have principally employed qualitative methods. Therefore, this study bridges qualitative and quantitative approaches to propose a layout – daily life model, which explains the relationship between the layout of Xi'an, China's Sanxue Street historic and cultural district, and its residents' daily lives. A combination of space syntax and geographic information system-based land-use analyses revealed that eating, shopping, calligraphy, and transportation were the main activities of residents. Questionnaire responses from 335 participants validated the proposed model and confirmed its feasibility. When certain types of facilities are widely distributed in streets with high choice and integration, residents' daily lives tend to involve the functions represented by them. Furthermore, calligraphy is an important part of most residents' daily lives, regardless of the transportation mode used. Final Jōmon ceramic figurines known as shakōki dogū have been incorporated into popular culture for decades in Japan, but few studies have examined how these sources represent shakōki dogū or how they contribute to public meaning making about the past. Using perspectives from archaeological representation studies, this paper explores trends in when, where, and how shakōki dogū appear in Japanese media, such as anime, manga, and games. In didactic sources, shakōki dogū are predominantly characterized as female figurines connected to Jōmon ritual and Japanese cultural origins. While the dogū observed here were often depicted as ancient and magical, they were more likely to be masculine, antagonistic, and generic symbols of a distant past, rather than references to the Jōmon or Japanese heritage. This departure from a divine feminine interpretation is discussed in relation to the video game industry, science fiction and fantasy genres, and Arahabaki in the popular mind. Objective: To examine the racial socialization practices of White fathers with their biological Black and White biracial sons. Background: Socializing children of color to live in a society where they may experience discrimination is an essential part of parenting. This may be challenging for White fathers with Black biracial sons because of their different lived experiences, which can be harmful to their sons. Method: A phenomenological approach was used to conduct 10 in‐depth, semistructured interviews with a sample of White fathers with biological Black biracial sons. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. Results: Four racial socialization practices were identified: (a) talking to son about his racial/cultural heritages, (b) exposing son to his racial/cultural heritages, (c) exposing son to environments that are diverse, and (d) talking to son about discrimination. Conclusion: Family professionals can work with White fathers to help them overcome any challenges they may encounter to socialize their Black biracial sons to navigate society as a man of color. Implications: Family practitioners and school personnel can promote and encourage the attendance of parenting programs that focus on discussing discrimination with children and strategies parents can use to develop a healthy multiracial identity in children. The Third Front construction played a crucial role in China's socialist development, resulting in an excess of stock space after four decades of evolution. This study focuses on 113 Third Front plants and mines in western Hubei to explore their contemporary reuse potential. Through field research and statistical analysis, the study examines the layout and conditions of these sites, utilizing the concept of "smart shrinkage" to assess their reuse value. Tools like the minimum cumulative resistance (MCR) model, network analysis, and cluster analysis are employed to develop a reuse value assessment model. The study finds that The Third Front construction plants and mines were concentrated in the transition zone from the plains to the mountains, and idleness and inefficiency became a common problem. These sites exhibit a unique "non-urban, non-rural" layout and possess heritage, asset, and ecological values. The study identifies various reuse strategies, including heritage preservation, property rights transformation, and ecological restoration through rewilding. These measures aim to revitalize the Third Front construction plants and mines, offering theoretical and methodological support for their sustainable development and potential recognition as world cultural heritage. This paper investigates the relation between a cultural orientation toward individualism and household stock market participation. We adopt an epidemiological approach to establish causality. Employing large samples of second-generation immigrants in the U.S. and Europe, we focus on how the cultural heritage of individuals from different origins influences their engagement in stock market participation. To verify this relationship, we utilize data from the the Current Population Survey (CPS) and the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE). Our findings reveal that immigrants from countries with a stronger individualistic cultural orientation are more likely to participate in the stock market. Furthermore, by leveraging data from the U.S. Census and American Community Survey (ACS), we demonstrate that the positive effect of individualistic cultural heritage is amplified for immigrants whose parents have made significant cultural investments. This research analyses the town of Cervera (Catalonia, Spain) and its manual ringing of bells, while examining its possibilities to improve the tourism experience. Qualitative research was conducted for this study, using the participant observation method and semi-structured interviews with the bell ringers as well as with the staff of the Cervera Tourist Office, while historical archives were also accessed. Findings revealed that Cervera is one of the few places in Catalonia that keeps alive the tradition of manual ringing of bells, which adds value to the intangible cultural heritage related to the acoustics of the local space. The sound of the bells is remarkable and the special characteristics of the manual ringing can be easily identified, which enhances the tourism experience. The contribution of this work is to provide more opportunities for the tourism activity, creating a perspective of the intangible cultural heritage integrated into the soundscape scene, through the bells. This research addresses the challenges and opportunities in integrating Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) into Cultural Heritage Tourism (CHT) offerings. Despite the growing interest in ICH, comprehensive research on its effective incorporation into CHT is lacking. Qualitative research was used employing interviews with 13 representatives from four case study areas known for their significant ICH offerings in the Dutch-speaking regions of Belgium and the Netherlands. Three research questions were formulated and tested to understand stakeholder collaboration, knowledge levels, and the complexities surrounding the term 'ICH.' The findings reveal a deficiency in stakeholder cooperation and varying levels of knowledge among supply-side stakeholders. The term 'ICH' itself was found to be complex but manageable through education and ethical sensitivity. The study recommends the involvement of an impartial mediator to facilitate stakeholder collaboration and suggests that heritage communities should be actively engaged in the process. Limitations include focusing on specific cultural and linguistic groups and incomplete stakeholder representation. The research has practical implications for policy formulation and Destination Management Organisations (DMOs) and offers a nuanced understanding of the challenges and solutions for integrating ICH into CHT. Although tourists are increasingly seeking to actively engage in culinary heritage experiences, empirical knowledge about the culinary tourist remains limited, encompassing not only the desire to live these experiences but also a growing inclination to share related stories on social networks. This research aims to characterize the profile of culinary heritage storytellers through their motivations. Understanding motivations is crucial for destination management organizations (DMOs) and culinary tourism operators, as it enables them to effectively engage consumers (tourists) in active participation within value co-creation processes. Furthermore, this understanding allows for the proposal of innovative strategies aimed at making destinations more appealing to visitors seeking unique travel experiences. The data for this study were collected through netnography, involving participants in culinary tourism activities. This paper examines representation of the conjoined ‘revival’ of record stores and vinyl through the lens of cultural heritage. It employs David Crouch’s concept of ‘heritaging’, which describes an active process in which heritage is constituted. Analysis derives from a case study of Vinyl Nation, a documentary depiction of the record store as a site of discovery and rediscovery of vinyl and its cultures of consumption and community. Depictions include evidence of the knowledge, commitment and interactions nurtured in the store, of the cultivation of dispositions that celebrate vinyl’s materiality and distinctiveness. The record store is depicted as a site of intimacies and the nurturing of a culture of care and freedoms not generally available under ‘anonymous capitalism’ and the relations that condition many other contemporary interactions. Conclusions draw attention to the paradoxes of this representation of the record store, of the contingent nature of the historical sensibilities ‘emerging’ in this site of ‘heritaging’. AbstractSerious games have been widely used in the protection of intangible cultural heritage (ICH). However, there is still a lack of understanding of the key factors affecting the continuance use of serious games for ICH and their mechanisms. Therefore, this study extends the S-O-R model to examine the effects of utilitarian characteristics and enjoyment characteristics of serious games on users’ continuance use intention. This study takes the ICH-themed game “Nishan Shaman” as the research object, inviting 430 participants to play the game and collecting data. The results showed that authenticity of cultural elements, information richness, aesthetics and interactivity have significantly positive impact on perceived usefulness and enjoyment respectively. Both perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment positively predict continuance use intention, and the influence of perceived enjoyment is stronger. In addition, cultural identity plays a positive moderating role between authenticity and perceived enjoyment, and between perceived enjoyment and perceived usefulness. Asia’s cultural heritage is increasingly threatened by climate change, environmental degradation and destructive human activities. In 2021, 10 Asian states, including China, formed the Asian Cultural Heritage Alliance (ACHA). The study utilised a mixed-method comprehensive review methodology to determine if ACHA is a regional public good or a supranational entity and assess its potential to advance the protection of Asia’s underwater cultural heritage (UCH). The results revealed that ACHA is a regional supranational entity designed to deliver public goods, notably regional cultural heritage conservation services, not a public good in and of itself. However, ACHA faces many challenges, including institutional prematureness, competing foreign policy positions, and domestic political concerns. Despite this, ACHA provides a potential new transnational governance mechanism for Asian UCH protection with profound cultural policy implications, including the refinement of regional UCH protection, enhanced funding mechanisms, the coordination of State and non-state actors, and reimagined international conferences to promote real-world outcomes. Abstract The regional cultural landscape is an important carrier and landscape element of traditional villages, and the sustainable development of traditional villages around Chaohu Lake is an important part of the continuation of rural civilization. This paper excavated the regional culture of traditional villages around Chaohu Lake, extracted its point, line, and surface landscape elements, and discussed how to create differences. Through field research and visits to the countryside, the regional cultural landscape data of the traditional villages around Chaohu Lake were obtained, and the construction ideas of the point, line and surface of the traditional villages around Chaohu Lake were analyzed. With the help of the analysis of the spatial structure of the regional cultural landscape of the traditional villages around Chaohu Lake, the cur- rent development problems of the traditional villages around Chaohu Lake were analyzed, and the development strategy of "point-line-sur- face" was proposed for the traditional villages around Chaohu Lake, that is, "nostalgia" activates "point" cultural resources, red connects "line" cultural resources, and differentially creates "surface" cultural resources. The research addresses the problem of degradation of documents with iron gall inks and the use of Fiji’s ImageJ software to analyse corrosion. This program is considered a valuable tool to complement inspection protocols by allowing quantitative analysis of support losses and halos in inked areas. With the use of the DStretch plug-in effective results are achieved in the recovery of illegible texts, even in very degraded documents. The methodology is applied to sixteenth century documents in the Archivo Histórico Provincial de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, obtaining both qualitative and quantitative data on degradation. The results obtained indicate the need for periodic inspections and document restoration actions. As a Cultural and Creative Industry (CCIs), Fashion promotes the establishment of cultural ecosystems, defined as environments in which different actors are driven to produce and consume artefacts, services, and strategies highly dependent on heritage. However, fashion heritage, encompassing tangible artefacts, technical know-how, and socio-cultural meanings embedded in territorial traditions, is often locked within private and corporate archives, limiting its accessibility and potential for broader societal impact and cultural accessibility. This study addresses the challenge of decoding and mobilizing such implicit heritage to drive cultural entrepreneurship, interdisciplinarity, and the development of new professional figures capable of bringing the intrinsic value of CCIs back to life. In light of this scenario, the article addresses the role of fashion heritage within cultural entrepreneurship initiatives, focusing on three main actors – fashion companies, public museums, and academia – and providing an overview of the types of dissemination, didactic and research programs adopted and the pursued objectives. The strategic model of the Gianfranco Ferré Research Center at Politecnico di Milano will be presented as a best practice in integrating fashion cultural heritage within a comprehensive framework of research, education, and dissemination activities within academia and with spillover effects on the entire fashion system. By highlighting the potential for heritage to impact and benefit the broader CCIs contexts, this study contributes to the literature on fashion heritage and cultural entrepreneurship by offering a replicable model for leveraging archives as drivers of educational value as well as cultural and social sustainability in fashion. Islands, as a critical role in Earth’s ecosystems, serve as vital carriers for human activities and cultural heritage. Precisely identifying the quantity and area of islands can offer valuable scientific basis into pressing issues such as climate change, ecosystem fluctuations, and marine pollution. In this paper, we propose a novel method that integrates object-oriented Semantic Segmentation Networks (SSNs) with pixel-based Adaptive Thresholding (AT) for the purpose of island identification. Pixel-based accuracy evaluation of island area, the F1-score of SSNs (U-Net, PSPNet, DeepLabV3+, HRNetV2, SegFormer) + AT reach 99.61%, 99.59%, 99.59%, 99.13% and 99.60% respectively, showing an improvement of 0.59%, 1.45%, 1.44%, 0.79% and 0.24% compared to SSNs. Object-based accuracy evaluation of island quantity, the F1-score2 of SSNs (U-Net, PSPNet, DeepLabV3+, HRNetV2, SegFormer) + AT reach 90.48%, 89.60%, 90.07%, 90.28% and 90.65% respectively, showing an improvement of 10.51%, 41.98%, 14.25%, 9.06% and 5.34% compared to SSNs. This indicates that the method demonstrates notable advantages in both island area identification and island quantity identification. This method integrates object-based and pixel-based classification methods, making it more applicable for extracting different types of islands. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study analyzed the spatial distribution characteristics, evolution rules, and driving factors of 138 China's national agricultural cultural heritage sites from 2013 to 2021 at the overall and regional levels, using kernel density analysis, Centres for standard deviation ellipse analyses, spatial autocorrelation analysis, and geographical detector analysis.The results showed that: ①From an overall perspective, the spatial pattern of China's national agricultural cultural heritage changed greatly from 2013 to 2021, with a highly uneven spatial distribution, gradually showing a distribution pattern of "widely distributed, locally concentrated". The spatial distribution of China's national agricultural cultural heritage is increasingly evident, and the spatial distribution type has evolved from discrete to clustered. The spatial distribution center of gravity shows a shift trajectory of "north-east, then south-east". During the study period, the X axis of the standard deviation ellipse was always greater than the Y axis, but the difference between the X and Y axes was small, indicating that the spatial distribution direction was northeast-southwest, but the directionality was weak. The types of national agricultural cultural heritage are diverse and rich, involving farmland landscapes, composite systems, crop varieties, vegetables and melons, tea, forest fruits, special products, farmland irrigation, and animal breeding, in which forest and fruit class heritage site dominate. ②From a regional perspective, the spatial distribution of China's national agricultural cultural heritage varies greatly, with strong national and regional characteristics. The high-density core area of the national agricultural cultural heritage in 2013 was located in the intersection of Fujian, Zhejiang and Jiangxi. After 2017, the high-density core area moved northward to the Yangtze River Delta region, which was caused by a combination of economic, cultural, and geographical factors. In addition, the agglomeration of the intersection edge area of Guizhou, Hunan and Yunnan provinces has emerged in 2021. In analyzing spatial autocorrelation, drawing on existing relevant research results, the study selected county-level administrative districts as the research unit. The analysis results show that there is a positive spatial correlation between China's national agricultural cultural heritage sites in 2017 and beyond, with the spatial distribution types mainly being LL and LH. During the study period, the number of LL and HH type areas has been increasing, indicating that the positive spatial correlation between China's national agricultural cultural heritage sites is gradually strengthening.③In terms of influencing factors, the spatial pattern of China's national agricultural cultural heritage is affected by factors such as regional economic development level, policy guarantee, transportation accessibility, cultural environment, per capita economic development level, population status, primary industry economic development level, secondary industry economic development level, tourism resource endowment, temperature, precipitation, terrain, and rivers. Among them, the impact of tourism resources, regional economic development level, and policy guarantees are more significant. The explanatory power of the interaction between any two factors is greater than that of a single factor, and there are differences in the strength of the interaction between each influencing factor. Traditional foodways are under threat due to historical factors like profound racial discrimination, alongside the pressures of a highly capitalised and industrialised food system and environmental degradation. In the northern Cederberg mountains of South Africa, bread-making forms an integral part of the cultural heritage of rural communities and has evolved in response to social, environmental, economic, and epistemic changes. Using semi-structured interviews and the use of participatory workshops to give voice to food-based practical knowledge, we identified the primary drivers for foodway transitions in these remote areas. They included changes in land access, use, and climate, as well as modernisation, economic development, and urbanisation. Through articulating the voices of local foodways custodians, we reveal the indispensable role that food plays in affirming identity, culture, and connections to land. Our findings underscore the importance of local food cultures in enhancing the well-being and health of rural communities, and the way they entwine connections between humans and the more-than-human natural world.
