EwaGlos, which has been developed in eleven languages, highlights the crucial role that professionally developed multilingual vocabularies play in international preservation campaigns. The illustrated glossary stresses the importance of common language in the conservation field, and the role that international cooperation plays in creating this common terminology. The core of the glossary comprises approximately 200 definitions of terms frequently used in specifications in the field of conservation-restoration of wall paintings and architectural surfaces. The prefaces of the book introduce professionals, students and decision-makers to complex issues encountered in the development, and use, of such terminologies. A programme of studies is ongoing to investigate the action of environmentally-friendly functionalized polycarboxylates as organic crystallization modifiers on salts on two types of Globigerina Limestone of Malta, to compare their action and behaviour. This was mainly done to verify the potential of such compounds to control, and therefore, limit damage on this locally unexplored territory. The main thrust of the research, at this stage, was to observe modifications to solution transport and salt crystal growth induced in two varieties of the stone by treating under controlled laboratory conditions; work under uncontrolled conditions has also commenced, but will not be discussed here. In this paper, indications of the modifications obtained are discussed, in the context of former trials, the fact that they are still under investigation and with a view on way forward. The revolutionary development in digital theory and technology calls for non-trivial decisions in bridging between the virtual and real worlds. The field of conservation of cultural heritage thus provides various challenges, especially with regards to learning, study and investigation of tangible heritage through applications of intangible ICT technologies. This paper examines the interaction between e-learning, and the actual on-site learning and study of historic buildings and sites, with an emphasis on their visual characteristics. In this context, the paper presents some aspects of application of a methodology which allows basic documentation, monitoring and primary analysis of data on cultural (built) heritage sites by general public through educational process enabled by an e-learning platform., peer-reviewed
