This canine in vivo study assessed the effect of recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor (rhPDGF) on the healing of periapical tissues following apical surgery. From a total of 96 premolar teeth, 64 teeth from six beagle dogs (2 years old) were classified as experimental and were randomly assigned to four experimental groups (16 teeth per group). After having the pulp extirpated, leaving teeth open to the oral cavity for 1 week, and sealing with an immediate restorative material for 8 weeks, nonsurgical endodontic treatment was performed. A split-mouth design was used, and intra-animal randomization of treatment sides was applied to the groups as follows: apical curettage + 1.5-mm root-end resection (Group 1); apicoectomy + mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) root-end filling (Group 2); apicoectomy + MTA root-end filling + rhPDGF (Group 3); and apical curettage + rhPDGF (Group 4). The animals were sacrificed 24 months after apical surgery, and histologic and µCT analyses were performed for bone volume loss (BVL). Group 1 showed partial resolution of the periapical lesions without signs of tissue regeneration (BVL: 49.09 ± 10.97 mm3). Group 2 had minimal bone regeneration and showed cementum reformation in 9 teeth, with no direct attachment to the MTA (BVL: 35.34 ± 10.97 mm3). Group 3 showed regeneration of all damaged apical tissues without direct contact between the cementum and MTA (BLV: 4.51 ± 1.55 mm3). Group 4 showed regeneration of PDL, bone, and cementum and attachment of functional cementum fibers (BVL: 2.82 ± 2.3 mm3). Background: Chondroblastoma (CBL) of the femoral head is a rare disease, typically encountered in the epiphysis of long bones, with its occurrence in the femoral head being particularly uncommon. The unique location and aggressive nature of this tumor pose substantial challenges in its treatment, leading to ongoing controversies regarding the therapeutic approaches. In this study, we introduce a technique of curettage without surgical dislocation as a treatment option for CBL in this challenging location. Methods: A total of 6 children diagnosed with chondroblastoma of the femoral head underwent a surgical procedure consisting of curettage, the application of anhydrous alcohol as an adjuvant therapy, followed by bone grafting. The epiphyseal plate status of the femoral head was classified as open, closing, or closed. To evaluate the children's postoperative functional outcome, the Musculoskeletal Tumour Society (MSTS) scoring system was utilized. Additionally, the Lodwick classification was employed to assess the extent of bone destruction. Furthermore, the kappa coefficient was calculated to quantify the level of inter-observers agreement in assessing the status of the epiphyseal plate. Results: The epiphyseal plate status was closing in two patients and closed in four patients. According to the Lodwick classification, one patient was classified as IA, one as IB, and four as IC. The mean MSTS score was 28. Notably, one patient developed a femoral neck fracture three months post-curettage. Conclusions: Curettage without surgical dislocation, combined with the use of anhydrous alcohol as an adjuvant therapy, followed by bone grafting, constitutes an effective treatment technique for femoral head chondroblastoma. Benign fibrous histiocytoma of the bone (BFHB) is a rare mesenchymal tumor, representing less than 1% of all benign bone tumors. This controversial entity is characterized by a mixture of fibroblasts arranged in a storiform pattern, varying amounts of osteoclast-type giant cells and foamy macrophages. Curettage or simple resection is usually curative. However, it was reported that up to 11% of the patients suffer from relapse. Congenital melanocytic nevus (CMN) is a benign skin lesion present from birth, which may present with a risk of malignant transformation if extensive. Curettage, a treatment method involving the removal of the superficial layer of the nevus, is often used in the early stages of life. However, recurrence of the nevus and postoperative scarring may present as problems. Additional treatments, such as resection and/or laser treatment, are regularly required after curettage, particularly in the craniofacial region. However, no systematic treatment strategy has been reported. This study investigated additional treatments used after curettage to treat CMN in the craniofacial region and compared the frequency of treatments with respect to specific sites. CMN cases involving curettage as an initial treatment were retrospectively reviewed at Kyoto University Hospital between May 2019 and April 2022. This study comprised 23 cases. Curettage was performed at a mean of 3.8 (1–10) months of age. No additional treatments were provided for 80% of head CMN. Additional treatments were performed in all cases, including the forehead and cheek. Laser treatment was performed in 86% of eyelid CMN and 75% of nasal CMN. Tissue expansion and flap closure were used in 33% of forehead CMN and 33% of cheek CMN. Additional treatments used for CMN in the craniofacial region varied in accordance with the lesion site. Objective Methods Results Conclusion To compare perinatal outcomes in subsequent pregnancies following second‐trimester abortions, stratified by the method of abortion.A historic cohort study was conducted in a single tertiary hospital, including women who had second‐trimester abortions between 12+0 and 24+0 weeks and subsequent documented pregnancies within 3–60 months. Data were collected from hospitalization and perinatal databases. Composite outcome variables were constructed, and multivariable logistic regression was used to analyze associations, adjusting for confounders.Among 771 women meeting the inclusion criteria, 83% had surgical abortions and 17% had medical abortions. Medical abortion was associated with a higher incidence of placenta‐associated pregnancy complications compared with surgical abortion. No significant differences were found in other perinatal outcomes.The study highlights the potential influence of the abortion method on subsequent pregnancy outcomes, particularly regarding placenta‐associated complications. This underscores the importance of considering the method of second‐trimester abortion in counseling women regarding potential risks to subsequent pregnancies. Adverse outcomes in subsequent pregnancies following second‐trimester abortion were associated with the medical method of abortion, warranting further research and careful counseling in clinical practice. The aim of the study was to evaluate and compare the efficacy of Endoscopic Adenoidectomy with Microdebrider over Conventional technique by Curettage using Impedance Audiometry findings. In this prospective, randomised, comparative study patients were divided into two groups to undergo one of the above adenoidectomy surgeries. Patients with symptoms of Adenoid hypertrophy after failed maximal medical therapy (12 weeks) were selected after due consideration of the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Baseline Impedance Audiometric assessment was done one week prior to surgery which was compared to Impedance Audiometric values 12 weeks post operatively in each group. This study enrolled 50 patients with adenoid hypertrophy, 25 patients of group A underwent Conventional adenoidectomy and the other 25 patients of group B underwent Endoscopic Adenoidectomy with Microdebrider. Significant difference in type of tympanogram before and after adenoidectomy was found in both the groups (p = 0.0008 in group A & p < 0.0001 in group B). In Group A Percentage of abnormal tympanograms becoming normal (Type A), 12 weeks after adenoidectomy was 80%. In Group B Percentage of abnormal tympanograms becoming normal (Type A), 12 weeks after adenoidectomy was 88%. A statistically significant improvement (p < 0.0001 in both the groups) in the percentage of ears with absent stapedial reflex was observed in both groups postoperatively, with no difference between the two groups suggestive of improvement in eustachian tube function. Association of Preoperatively & Postoperatively Eustachian tube function in each group undergoing adenoidectomy was statistically significant (p < 0.0001). Both forms of adenoidectomy are effective in managing adenoid hypertrophy with tubal dysfunction causing mild conductive hearing loss and prone for OME. However, the audiological and endoscopic evaluation seems to favor Endoscopic Adenoidectomy with microdebrider over conventional adenoidectomy, and it should be therefore considered in the therapeutic management of young patients with adenoidal disease. The purpose of this multicentre study was to evaluate the efficacy of the 'dredging–marsupialization–curettage' (D–M–C) strategy in the treatment of conventional intraosseous ameloblastoma of the mandible. A total of 31 patients from three institutions, who had a pathological diagnosis of conventional ameloblastoma of the mandible, were treated with the D–M–C strategy. The surgical protocol comprised a dredging and marsupialization (D–M) step, with additional D–M steps as required. The patients then underwent curettage (C) once an obvious effect of the D–M step had been achieved during follow-up. Eight patients were followed up for ≥36 months but <60 months, while 23 were followed up for ≥60 months. Nineteen of the 23 patients followed up for ≥60 months were disease-free at the last follow-up, with no evidence of recurrence. The D–M step is effective for reducing the tumour size and preserving vital structures. The D–M–C surgical strategy may be a feasible treatment option for conventional ameloblastoma of the mandible. Summary: Background: A variety of treatment options for unicameral bone cysts (UBC) exist. The controversy of open management of UBC is discussed. The aim of this study was to analyze a single institution's experience in the open surgical treatment of UBC. Patients and methods: By retrospective analysis of the Vienna Bone and Soft Tissue Tumor Registry, 119 patients with open surgery and histologically verified UBC with a mean follow up of 4.8 years (range 1–30 years) were included. Lesion treatment failure was defined as surgically addressed UBC undergoing revision surgery due to persistence or recurrence. Results: Local revision-free survival for lesion treatment failure was 93% after 1 year, 80% after 2 years, 60% after 5 years and 57% after 10 years. Of the patients 34 (29%) had at least 1 revision surgery due to lesion treatment failure. We found that patients with lesion treatment failure were younger (p = 0.03), had UBC with less minimal distance to the growth plate (p = 0.02) and more septation chambers in radiologic imaging (p = 0.02). Patients with open revision surgery were less likely to require a second revision due to lesion treatment failure than patients with percutaneous revision surgery (p = 0.03). Conclusion: Open surgery for UBC can only be recommended as reserve treatment in younger children with actively growing lesions. Open UBC surgery carries a relatively high risk of almost 30% of lesion treatment failure and therefore the indications should be limited to extensive osteolysis with high risk of pathological fractures, lesions with displaced pathological fractures, and lesions with an ambiguous radiological presentation that require tissue collection. Objective Methods Results Conclusion The aim of the present study was to explore the relationship between the size of cesarean scar diverticulum (CSD) measured on preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and adverse events during dilatation and curettage (D&C) procedure in patients with cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP).The MRI of 197 CSP patients from October 2019 to August 2023 were retrospectively reviewed. The volume, area, and depth of CSD, residual myometrium thickness (RMT), and gestational sac diameter were recorded and tested for correlation with intraoperative estimated blood loss (EBL), and operation time and for any association with the intraoperative adverse events (intraoperative massive hemorrhage [39 cases] and D&C procedure failure [15 cases]). The Spearman test was used to characterize the correlation between the five MRI variables and both the EBL and operation time. The correlation between the five MRI variables and intraoperative adverse events was evaluated with student's t test and Mann–Whitney U test. Diagnostic power of the MRI variables was evaluated by the area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC).The volume, area, and depth of CSD and gestational sac diameter were positively correlated with both EBL and operation time, with the CSD volume having the highest correlation with them (r = 0.543 and 0.461, respectively). Conversely, the RMT displayed a negative correlation with the EBL and operation time. All five MRI variables were significantly associated with both intraoperative massive hemorrhage and D&C failure (all P < 0.001). The CSD volume demonstrated the highest AUC for diagnosing intraoperative massive hemorrhage and D&C failure at 0.893 (95% CI: 0.82–0.92) and 0.901 (95% CI: 0.85–0.94), respectively. The optimal cutoff values for CSD volume in predicting massive hemorrhage and D&C failure were determined to be 5.41 and 8.92 cm3, respectively, with corresponding sensitivities/specificities of 92.31/74.68 and 93.33/82.42, respectively.Quantifying the size of CSD based on preoperative MRI could aid in evaluating risk during D&C in CSP patients, with CSD volume possessing higher diagnostic efficacy than the other four MRI indicators. Objective: The aim of this study was to present the mid-term outcomes and treatment management of benign and benign aggressive lesions of the femoral head and neck treated surgically in pediatric and adult patients. Methods: A total of 27 patients who underwent surgical treatment for benign tumors and tumor-like lesions of the femoral neck and head were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were evaluated according to age, gender, diagnosis, follow-up period, lesion location, surgical method, complications, and recurrence development. Functional evaluation was performed using the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS) and Toronto extremity salvage score (TESS). Early and late complications, such as infection, wound site issues, physeal injury, avascular necrosis (AVN), non-union, malunion, fracture, and implant failure, were investigated. Results: The average age was 26 years (range, 8-54 years), and the follow-up period was 74 months (49-108). In 24 patients (89%), the tumor was located in the femoral neck, whereas in 3 patients (11%), it was located in the femoral head. The most common diagnosis was simple bone cysts (33.3%), and the most frequently applied surgical method was curettage + grafting + internal fixation (C + G + IF) (51.8%). The mean MSTS score was 84% (range, 50-100), and the mean TESS score was 96.1 (range, 75-100). Conclusion: Hip-preserving approaches are important for functional outcomes in the treatment of lesions observed in the proximal femur. Attention should be paid to the nutrient arterial structures to prevent complications such as non-union and AVN. • Uterine evacuation is an important risk factor for PTD. • Mechanical cervical dilation performed during curettage does not increase the risk of preterm delivery. • Maternal and neonatal outcomes following mechanical cervical dilatation are similar to those without dilatation. Earlier studies have indicated a potential link between dilatation and curettage (D&C) and subsequent preterm delivery, possibly attributed to cervical damage. This study examines outcomes in pregnancies subsequent to first-trimester curettage with and without cervical dilatation. A retrospective cohort study was conducted on women who conceived after undergoing curettage due to a first trimester pregnancy loss. Maternal and neonatal outcomes of the subsequent pregnancy were compared between two groups: women who underwent cervical dilatation before their curettage and those who had curettage without dilatation. The primary outcome assessed was the rate of preterm delivery at the subsequent pregnancy, and secondary outcomes included other adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. Univariate analysis was performed, followed by multiple logistic regression models to calculate adjusted odds ratios (aORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Among the 1087 women meeting the inclusion criteria during the study period, 852 (78.4 %) underwent first-trimester curettage with cervical dilatation, while 235 (21.6 %) opted for curettage only. No significant maternal or neonatal different outcomes were noted between the study groups, including preterm delivery (5.5 % vs. 3.5 %, p = 0.16), fertility treatments, placental complications, and mode of delivery. However, deliveries following D&C were associated with higher rates of small for gestational age neonates (7.6 % vs. 3.8 %, p = 0.04). Multivariate analysis revealed that cervical dilation before curettage was not significantly linked to preterm delivery [adjusted odds ratio 0.64 (0.33–1.26), p = 0.20]. The use of cervical dilatation during a curettage procedure for first trimester pregnancy loss, does not confer additional risk of preterm delivery. Giant cell tumor affecting distal radius has been considered more aggressive, as compared to its counterparts in other locations. While resection has been advocated as the treatment of choice with lower rates of recurrence, curettage has reportedly led to superior functional outcomes. This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the functional and oncological outcomes of patients managed for GCT distal radius by either extended intralesional curettage (EIC) or resection and arthrodesis with radialisation of ulna (RRU), with respect to rates of local recurrence and function. Twenty-four patients operated for giant cell tumor of distal radius by a single surgeon from 2011 to 2021, were included in the study. The demographic, clinico-radiological, and surgical details were recorded and analyzed, as were the functional and oncological outcomes. At a median (IQR) follow-up of 6.3 years (range 2 years to 15.9 years), the rate of recurrence in curettage was found to be higher than that in resection but was not statistically significant (35.7% vs 20%, p > 0.05). Patients managed elsewhere and then presented to us for recurrence had a higher rate of local recurrence (66.6%, p = 0.01). Average time to recurrence was 14 months (range 2–24 months). On final follow-up, patients in curettage group had better functional outcomes in terms of grip strength and range of motion. Mean Modified Mayo Wrist score and MSTS score were 78.2 and 25.63, respectively, for EIC group and 69.6 and 25.75, respectively, for RRU group. Extended intralesional curettage resulted in an earlier rehabilitation with a mobile wrist and acceptable disease control when compared with resection and arthrodesis with radialisation of ulna. Background/Objectives: Intrauterine adhesion (IUA) is characterized by endometrial fibrocyte hyperplasia. The LIN28B gene is associated with many proliferative diseases. However, its association with IUA is entirely unknown. We hypothesized that LIN28B gene polymorphisms are responsible for IUA susceptibility after curettage abortion. Methods: In this genetic association study, We genotyped two common polymorphisms (rs369065 C>T and rs314280 A>G) in 107 patients with IUA and 270 controls without IUA after curettage abortion from a Chinese population between July 2022 and May 2023 and analyzed their associations with IUA risk using multiple logistic regression models. Results: The carriers of genotype rs314280 AA of the LIN28B gene showed an increased risk of IUA (AOR [adjusted odds ratio] = 2.12, 95% CI [confidence interval] = 1.151–3.903), compared to GG+GA genotypes. Further stratification analyses showed that the deleterious role of the rs314280 AA genotype was more evident in patients with fewer than four pregnancies (AOR = 2.740, 95% CI = 1.355–5.540), fewer than two births (AOR = 2.676, 95% CI = 1.300–5.509), and fibrous (AOR = 2.082, 95% CI = 1.084–3.997) and muscular adhesions (AOR = 3.887, 95% CI = 1.116–13.540). However, the rs369065 T>C polymorphism of the LIN28B gene was not significantly associated with the occurrence of IUA. Conclusions: The rs314280 AA genotype of the LIN28B gene is associated with an increased risk of IUA in patients after curettage abortion, especially in those with fewer pregnancies or parities and higher disease severity. Treating central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) is challenging due to high recurrence rates and variable therapy responses. This study examines the efficacy of various treatments in reducing CGCG recurrence. A literature review explored outcomes of surgical excision, curettage, intralesional corticosteroid injection, and adjuvant therapy, considering factors like lesion location, size, and histological features. Aggressive surgical techniques such as en bloc resection were found to potentially lower recurrence rates compared to conservative approaches. However, treatment should be tailored to individual patient needs. Further research is needed to confirm these findings and improve treatment strategies. A concise literature review was conducted using PubMed, MEDLINE, and Google Scholar, focusing on papers published from 1986 to 2024. Search terms included "central giant cell granuloma", "recurrence", "treatment modalities", and "surgical excision". Studies reporting recurrence rates and treatment outcomes for CGCG were analyzed. Twenty-nine studies were reviewed, including six studies on surgical excision and curettage, eight studies on intralesional corticosteroid injections, six studies on calcitonin therapy, five studies on interferon-alpha therapy, and four studies on the therapy with denosumab. Analysis indicated that aggressive surgical treatments like en bloc resection were associated with lower recurrence rates compared to conservative methods. Predictors of recurrence included lesion size (>3 cm), location (mandible), and aggressive histopathological features. Aggressive surgical excision combined with nonsurgical methods may lower recurrence rates, while conservative techniques remain viable in some cases. Tooth auto transplantation is becoming a predictable method to replace a missing tooth, especially in young patients, with many benefits. This case report presents a 14-year-old male with an un restorable, decayed mandibular first molar with bifurcation and periapical lesions. After the extraction, the socket was debrided and prepared for an immediate auto transplantation of the immature mandibular third molar. Radiologic and clinical follow‑up for 1 year showed periodontal healing with the absence of any complications despite the auto transplantation into an infected site. Thus, third-molar auto transplantation was a good solution to replace an un restorable first molar with a satisfactory result. Despite the existence of periradicular lesion, the curettage, debridement, and irrigation were enough to perform successful immediate tooth auto transplantation in this case. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Generally, verrucae vulgaris are harmless to the body, but when they occur in specific areas such as the face or soles of the feet, they can profoundly impact an individual’s quality of life and necessitate therapeutic intervention. Although several pharmacological and physical topical treatments are available, the results are often unsatisfactory in terms of efficacy and cosmetic outcome. Verrucae which typically occur widely on the face are usually Verrucae Planae. When Verrucae vulgaris does occur, it usually presents as single or occasional multiple lesions, rather than covering almost the entire face. In immunocompromised situations, verruca vulgaris can exhibit rare proliferative behavior. In this report, we present a 17-year-old male adolescent who was successfully treated for generalized facial verrucae vulgaris by using a combination of curettage and photodynamic therapy (PDT). The patient’s prolonged use of topical corticosteroids and tacrolimus ointment on the face for eczema over several years is believed to have led to a localized immunosuppressive state of the facial skin, which is considered a significant factor in the outbreak of verrucae vulgaris. Additionally, the patient has a history of acne and frequently scratched face. The appearance of the Koebner phenomenon following scratching is considered another potential reason. This treatment achieved complete resolution and improved the patient’s pre-existing acne problem, resulting in a satisfactory cosmetic outcome without any notable adverse effects or recurrence during the follow-up period. Abstract Background This experimental study aimed at directly comparing conventional and endoscopic-assisted curettage towards (1) amount of residual tumour tissue (RTT) and (2) differences between techniques regarding surgical time and surgeons’ experience level. Methods Three orthopaedic surgeons (trainee, consultant, senior consultant) performed both conventional (4x each) and endoscopic-assisted curettages (4x each) on specifically prepared cortical-soft cancellous femur and tibia sawbone models. “Tumours” consisted of radio-opaque polyurethane-based foam injected into prepared holes. Pre- and postinterventional CT-scans were carried out and RTT assessed on CT-scans. For statistical analyses, percentage of RTT in relation to total lesion’s volume was used. T-tests, Wilcoxon rank-sum tests, and Kruskal-Wallis tests were applied to assess differences between surgeons and surgical techniques regarding RTT and timing. Results Median overall RTT was 1% (IQR 1 – 4%). Endoscopic-assisted curettage was associated with lower amount of RTT (median, 1%, IQR 0 − 5%) compared to conventional curettage (median, 4%, IQR 0 − 15%, p = 0.024). Mean surgical time was prolonged with endoscopic-assisted (9.2 ± 2.9 min) versus conventional curettage (5.9 ± 2.0 min; p = 0.004). No significant difference in RTT amount (p = 0.571) or curetting time (p = 0.251) depending on surgeons’ experience level was found. Conclusions Endoscopic-assisted curettage appears superior to conventional curettage regarding complete tissue removal, yet at expenses of prolonged curetting time. Giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB) represents an intermediate, locally aggressive tumor, with a peak of incidence in the third decade of life with female predominance (2:1). The distal radius is the third most common localization and especially challenging in the treatment is saving the wrist joint function. In this report, we present a case of a 32-year-old patient diagnosed with a giant cell tumor of the distal radius, primarily treated with curettage of the bone. Due to aggressive tumor recurrence, considering local control of the tumor, we decided to perform a resection of the distal radius and reconstruction with an autologous proximal vascular fibular graft. We performed a SPECT/CT scan to confirm the functionality of the graft. Background/Objectives: To investigate the risk factors for CIN2+ lesions (cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 3 or worse) in endocervical curettage (ECC) and to evaluate the relationship between the addition of ECC to punch biopsy in terms of the yield of CIN2+ lesions. Methods: Between February 2018 and 2019, data on colposcopy results from 11,944 patients were gathered from the Cancer Department of the Turkish Ministry of Health across the country. A total of 6370 women whom were referred to colposcopy were included in this study. Risk factors were identified using both univariate and multivariate logistic analyses. Results: The median age was 42 years old (range, 30–65). ASC-H (atypical squamous cells-suggestive of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion)/HSIL (high-grade intraepithelial lesion) cytology (OR 7.648 95% CI (3.933–14.871)) and HPV (human papillomavirus)-16/18 infection (OR 2.541 95% CI (1.788–3.611)) were identified as risk factors for having CIN2+ lesions. CIN2+ diagnostic yield by ECC is only 1.2% all patients. CIN2+ diagnostic yield by punch biopsy and ECC are 9.7% and 6% of patients, respectively. A higher CIN2+ yield by ECC was observed with increasing age. Among cytology groups, ASC-H/HSIL has highest CIN2+ yield by ECC. Finally, in patients with incomplete visualization of the squamocolumnar junction (SCJ), ECC yields approximately twice as many CIN2+ lesions. Conclusions: ECC should be considered in cases of advanced patient age and in situations where the SCJ is not routinely visualized. In addition, evaluation of the endocervical canal is necessary in HPV-positive cases infected with HPV-16/18 types and in cases infected with HPV of any type but with cytological abnormalities. Introduction: Recurrence is a major challenge in the treatment of solitary bone cysts (SBC). In this study, we aimed to analyze the factors that influence the risk of recurrence in patients with simple bone cysts. Methods: The study included patients who underwent curettage and bone grafting for SBC between 2010 and 2021 at a single center. Data collected included age, sex, side, bone location, pathological fracture history, cyst activity, internal fixation, graft type, radiological features of the cyst (cyst index, cyst diameter ratio, cyst area and cyst length), follow-up time, and presence of recurrence. The Cox algorithm was applied to identify factors independently associated with SBC recurrence. Results: A total of 41 patients with a mean age of 10.8±3.19 years (range 4-15 years) were included in this study. The average follow-up period was 51±21.3 months. Recurrence was observed in 13 of 41 patients during follow-up. There were no significant differences in sex, bone location, pathological fracture history, and the type of graft used between patients with and without recurrence. The age at surgery was found to be significantly lower in the recurrence group (p=0.02). The radiological features of the cyst: cyst index, cyst diameter ratio, cyst area, and cyst length, were found to be higher in the recurrence group, although there was no significant difference. Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of a flapless surgical approach in the treatment of peri‐implantitis and to explore the factors influencing its outcome. Materials and Methods: The present retrospective study evaluated patients with at least one implant diagnosed with peri‐implantitis and treated with a flapless surgical access, with or without systemic antimicrobials, curettage and, when needed, prostheses modification. Clinical and radiographic parameters were assessed at baseline and at 3 months and at least 12 months. The primary outcome was disease resolution (≤1 bleeding sites, probing depth [PD] ≤5 mm, no bone loss >0.5 mm). Multilevel regression analyses were used to identify predictors influencing the probability of attaining disease resolution. Results: One hundred and seventeen patients with 338 implants were included. Disease resolution was attained in 54.4% of the 338 implants receiving flapless surgical access. At the end of the follow‐up period, 111 patients (94.9%) with 295 implants (87.3%) did not require any further treatment, with 81.4% of these implants presenting PD ≤ 5 mm. History of periodontitis and PD at baseline were identified as negative predictors, while compliance with supportive peri‐implant care, a machined surface and the adjunctive use of systemic azithromycin or metronidazole were identified as positive predictive factors for disease resolution. Conclusions: A flapless surgical approach led to disease resolution in 54.4% of the implants with peri‐implantitis. Several risk/protective predictors for disease resolution were identified. Background: There are conflicting data regarding the detection rate of high-risk uterine sarcoma (HRUS) by endometrial biopsy. In addition, there are no studies in the literature on its impact on the chosen surgical approach and survival. Methods: This study includes 415 patients with HRUS. Of these, 178 (42.9%) patients had undergone endometrial biopsy. We analyzed the detection rate of endometrial biopsy and its impact on surgical approach and survival data. Results: Correct specific histologic diagnosis was achieved in only 30.0% of LMS and 33.3% of HGESS/UUS. Other uterine sarcoma, unspecified malignant mesenchymal tumor, carcinosarcoma or carcinoma were found in 45% of LMS and 78.2% of HGESS/UUS. As a result of the histologic findings, the rate of inadequate surgery was reduced by up to 19.9%. As tumor morcellation was performed significantly less often with biopsy (32.5% with vs. 55.4% without biopsy, p < 0.001), the locoregional recurrence-free interval remained unaffected between the two groups (p = 0.81). This is obviously an advantage of biopsy, although it does not affect the local recurrence rate in morcellated patients. Conclusions: Indicated endometrial biopsy is an important step in the diagnosis of HRUS, despite its low detection rate. It helps to avoid inappropriate surgical procedures but does not affect OS. Background: This experimental study aimed at directly comparing conventional and endoscopic-assisted curettage towards (1) amount of residual tumour tissue (RTT) and (2) differences between techniques regarding surgical time and surgeons' experience level. Methods: Three orthopaedic surgeons (trainee, consultant, senior consultant) performed both conventional (4x each) and endoscopic-assisted curettages (4x each) on specifically prepared cortical-soft cancellous femur and tibia sawbone models. "Tumours" consisted of radio-opaque polyurethane-based foam injected into prepared holes. Pre- and postinterventional CT-scans were carried out and RTT assessed on CT-scans. For statistical analyses, percentage of RTT in relation to total lesion's volume was used. T-tests, Wilcoxon rank-sum tests, and Kruskal-Wallis tests were applied to assess differences between surgeons and surgical techniques regarding RTT and timing. Results: Median overall RTT was 1% (IQR 1 – 4%). Background: Giant cell tumors (GCTs) are benign bone tumors that can be locally aggressive, leading to joint destruction or pathologic fractures. In rare cases, they can progress to lung metastasis and death. The management modalities of GCTs include medical treatment, curettage, cryotherapy, and resection and reconstruction, including arthroplasty. Objective: The current case report aimed to discuss alternative treatment options to the reported case of GCT. Case report: The reported case showed a healthy 25-years-old man with left hip joint pain progressing over six months. The pain was resistant to lifestyle modifications and medications. Investigations resulted in the diagnosis of a GCT in the left femur head. The management included a preoperative course of denosumab, surgical dislocation of the left hip, lesion curettage, irrigation, and bone graft and cementation. Our plan was a good alternative because it is a low-cost surgery that resulted in regaining the same previous level of activities without limitations. The plan showed excellent outcomes, but more cases and long-term follow-up are needed in further studies. The aim of the case report was to discuss alternative treatment options for the reported case of GCT. Conclusion: A criterion standard treatment option for GCT in the femur is lacking. In the current case, a GCT of the femoral head was treated with an initial course of denosumab for six months, followed by curettage, bone grafting and cementing packing. Introduction Adenoidectomy is one of the most common procedures performed by otolaryngologists. Traditional adenoid curettage is performed blindly, which can result in inadequate removal of the adenoid and injury to the surrounding structures. Objective To perform transnasal endoscopic examinations to assess the nasopharynx after conventional curettage adenoidectomy. Methods The present prospective study included 100 children with a mean age of 4.2 ± 3.07 years. It is composed of two steps: conventional curettage adenoidectomy by a resident trainee; and endoscopic evaluation of the nasopharynx through a 0° telescope to assess adenoidal remnants, injury to the surgical field or adjacent structures, and bleeding points. Results Adenoid remnants were observed in 42% of the cases after conventional adenoid curettage in multiple locations, such as the roof of the nasopharynx over the choana (24%), the tubal tonsil (12%), the posterior pharyngeal wall (4%), and the posterior end of the nasal septum (2%). Injury to the surgical field and adjacent structures was observed in 46% of the cases (posterior pharyngeal wall: 23%; lateral pharyngeal wall: 11%; Passavant ridge: 10%; and the Eustachian tube orifice: 2%). Endoscopic bleeding was observed in 29% of the cases; 13% of the cases were from adenoid remnants, 10%, from the mucosa, and 6%, from the pharyngeal muscles. Bleeding was mild in 19% of the cases, moderate in 9%, and severe in 1%. Conclusion Endoscopic evaluation of the nasopharynx following conventional adenoid curettage provides important data regarding adenoid remnants, injury to the surgical field or nearby structures, and bleeding points, which aids in the provision of optimal care and in the achievement of a better outcome. Giant Cell Tumours (GCT) are benign tumours with aggressive potential that disrupt the local bony architecture, which can be especially problematic in peri-articular locations. Our aim was to assess the outcomes of patients with GCT of the distal ulna who were treated by resection without reconstruction. The study included 21 patients with distal ulna GCT that were treated with resection without reconstruction. There were 12 males and 9 females, with a mean age of 30.4years (range 14–45 years). The patients mean follow-up period was 4.4 years, with a two-year minimum follow-up. Painful swelling was the presenting symtom in all cases. Nineteen patients had Campanacci grade 3 and two had Campanacci grade 2. The mean resected length of the distal ulna was 6.8 cm (range 4–10) cm. The Musculoskeletal Tumor Society score (MSTS) was 26.1. (range 22–28). Grip strength of the affected hand was reduced by 10.5% on average. (range 0%–16%). Two patients were having multi-centric disease on presentation and none of the cases had pathological fracture on presentation. One case had a local recurrence which was treated with surgery. Based on current study, GCT of the distal ulna, en bloc resection without reconstruction can be recommended as a valuable treatment option for Campanacci grades 2 and 3 tumours. Resection of the distal end of the ulna without reconstruction results in excellent functional outcomes, with forearm rotational movement and hand function preserved. Objective: The major challenge in routine endocervical curettage (ECC) among Human Papillomavirus (HPV) 16/18-positive patients is that only a small fraction benefit. Nevertheless, current reported models often overestimate the validity and necessity of ECC, making it difficult to improve benefits for patients. This research hypothesized that assessing paired boxed gene 1 methylation levels (PAX1m) and clinical characteristics could enhance the predictive accuracy of detecting additional high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions or worse (HSIL +) through ECC that were not identified by colposcopy-directed biopsy (CDB). Methods: Data from 134 women with HPV16/18 positivity undergoing CDB and ECC between April 2018 and April 2022 were collected and analyzed. Quantitative methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction (qMSP) was utilized to measure PAX1m, expressed as ΔCp. Univariate and multivariate regression analyses were conducted to screen variables and select predictive factors. A nomogram was constructed using multivariate logistic regression to predict additional HSIL + detected by ECC. The discrimination, calibration, and clinical utility of the nomogram were evaluated using receiver operating characteristic curves (ROC) and the calibration plot. Results: Age (odds ratio [OR], 5.654; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.131–37.700), cytology (OR, 24.978; 95% CI, 3.085–540.236), and PAX1 methylation levels by grade (PAX1m grade) (OR, 7.801; 95% CI, 1.548–44.828) were independent predictive factors for additional detection of HSIL + by ECC. In HPV16/18-positive women, the likelihood of additional detection of HSIL + through ECC increased with the severity of cytological abnormalities, peaking at 43.8% for high-grade cytological lesions. Moreover, when cytological findings indicated low-grade lesions, PAX1 methylation levels were positively correlated with the additional detection of HSIL + by ECC (P value < 0.001). A nomogram prediction model was developed (area under curve (AUC) = 0.946; 95% CI, 0.901–0.991), demonstrating high sensitivity (90.9%) and specificity (90.5%) at the optimal cutoff point of 107. Calibration analysis confirmed the model's strong agreement between predicted and observed probabilities. Conclusion: The clinical nomogram presented promising predictive performance for the additional detection of HSIL + through ECC among women with HPV16/18 infection. PAX1 methylation level could serve as a valuable tool in guiding individualized clinical decisions regarding ECC for patients with HPV 16/18 infection, particularly in cases of low-grade cytological findings. Introduction: The criteria for a good dental material could penetrate optimally and have biocompatibility, chemical stability, and biodegradability. Carbonated apatite-gelatin film as a Drug Delivery System (DDS) is known to increase the effectiveness of metronidazole in the healing process of periodontal therapy. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of carbonated apatite-gelatin film adjunction as a metronidazole delivery system in cases chronic periodontitis of post-curettage using several clinical parameters. Evaluation is carried out through measurements of Relative Attachment Loss (RAL), Pocket Depth (PD), and Bleeding on Probing (BOP). Materials and methods: Subjects were from 45 chronic periodontitis patients who had periodontal pockets 3-5 mm depth at the Academic Dental Hospital UGM. Subjects were treated with initial scaling and root planing treatment as well as periodontal therapy in the form of curettage. Subjects were divided into 3 groups, namely CHA film, adjuvant metronidazole, and CHA-metronidazole film. Clinical evaluations were carried out on the 0th, 7th, 21st, and 28th days. Clinical parameters were evaluated RAL, PD, and BOP then analyzed using the Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests. Results: Administering carbonated apatite-gelatin film as a delivery system for metronidazole in the healing of post-curettage chronic periodontitis obtained a higher reduction in RAL, PD, and BOP values compared to administering metronidazole itself. Conclusion: TAdministering carbonated apatite-gelatin film as a metronidazole delivery system has a higher effect of reducing RAL, PD, and BOP compared to metronidazole in healing chronic periodontitis post curettage. Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare different surgical treatment modalities for simple bone cysts (SBC) of the humerus regarding their effectiveness and recurrence rate. Methods: In this retrospective study, patients who received surgical treatment for previously untreated primary SBCs of the humerus were analyzed. Demographic data, cyst-specific as well as treatment-specific parameters, complications, treatment failures, and recurrence rates were collected and correlated with different treatment modalities. Observed procedures were categorized as open procedure (n=20) or osteosynthesis alone (n=3). For the open procedure group, four subgroups could be defined. Results: Twenty-three patients were included. The mean age at diagnosis was 11.6 ± 2.5 years, and the mean postoperative follow-up was 3.9 ± 2.6 years (range 1.0–10.3). After surgical intervention, a total of five (21.7%) patients showed at least one recurrence. Fracture occurred in three (13.0%) cases. The incidence of treatment failure was significantly higher in the curettage, allograft, adjuvants group, with five (83.3%) of six cases showing recurrence, than in the other subgroups (≤ 25.0%) including the osteosynthesis alone group (p=.024). For the open procedure group, the failure-free survival rates were 80.0% after two years and 50.4% after five years. For the three cases treated by osteosynthesis alone, no failures were observed. Conclusion: Open procedures showed similar failure rates except for the subgroup using curettage, allograft, and adjuvants which showed significantly higher treatment failure. The accurate fenestration, screw implantation and assisting stabilizing‐plate placement in surgery of benign tumors in the proximal femur needs be defined easily. The aim of this study was to investigate the value of 3D printed multifunctional guides plate (3D‐MGP) based on computer aided design. Between January 2020 and June 2022, 17 patients (nine females and eight males) with benign proximal femoral tumor had lesion curettage and allograft combined with internal plate fixation using 3D‐MGP. In this study, the patients had CT scans and a technician reconstructed the 3D images of tumor and the femur, a doctor designed the location and margin of the fenestration and screws, and integrated different functions into MGP for benign proximal femoral lesions, which assisted in precise localization, fenestration and screw drilling. Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS) scoring was used to evaluate lower extremity function. Bone healing and the screws location was assessed with the radiographs. All patients underwent successful surgery with complete resection of the tumor and internal fixation with using the 3D‐MGP. The mean follow‐up was 16.4 months. The operative time was 126.47 ± 18.44 min, intraoperative bleeding was 198.23 ± 67.94 mL, intraoperative fluoroscopy was 6.47 ± 0.62, postoperative drainage was 223.82 ± 119.51 mL, and MSTS score was 27.29 ± 1.31 points. There were no unplanned fenestration and improper screw fixation. The 3D‐MGP enabled personalized and accurate location of tumor, fenestration, screw placement and assisted stabilizing‐plate placement for the treatment of benign tumor of the proximal femur. Purpose: Giant cell tumor (GCT) of the proximal femur is relatively rare, with only a few case series reported thus far. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of GCT of the proximal femur treated with intralesional curettage and expand the understanding of their characteristics and treatment considerations. Materials and Methods: Fifteen cases treated with curettage for GCT of the proximal femur between 2007 and 2020 were reviewed. The median follow-up was 46 months (25–150 months). There were 10 males and 5 females with a median age of 26 years (17–71 years). After curettage, the bone defect was filled with either an allograft (7 cases) or bone cement (8 cases). Results: The postoperative complications were local recurrences in three cases (20.0%), including malignant transformation in one case and a femur neck fracture in one case (6.7%) following curettage and strut allograft. Among the 15 cases, 13 (86.7%) retained their native joint at the last follow-up. No patients developed degenerative changes or osteonecrosis. Conclusion: The results of proximal femoral GCT with curettage were acceptable despite local recurrences in three cases (20.0%), and femur neck fracture in one case. Curettage with or without the use of adjuvants is the standard of care in the treatment of an aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC). Historically, our approach combined curettage, high‐speed burr drilling, and cryoablation. However, treatments varied based on age, tumor location, and surgeon preference. We asked: (1) Does cryoablation in addition to curettage and burr drilling decrease the local recurrence rates? (2) Are there any risk factors for the local recurrence rate? (3) Does cryoablation improve postsurgical functional outcomes in these patients? Patients treated for an ABC, between January 2006 and December 2019 were included in this retrospective analysis. Patient and surgical characteristics, such as age, gender, tumor location, type of treatment, time of follow‐up, recurrence rate, and functional outcome measured by the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society Score 1993 (MSTS93) score were compared between those treated with and without cryoablation. Both groups, without cryoablation (n = 88) and with cryoablation (n = 42), showed no significant difference in local recurrence rates (9.1% vs. 7.1%, p = 0.553) and functional outcomes as measured by the MSTS93 score (28.9 vs. 27.8, p = 0.262). Risk factors analyzed did not significantly affect local recurrence risk, except for secondary ABC diagnosis (p = 0.017). The cryoablation group had a more extended follow‐up (45.6 vs. 73.2 months, p < 0.001), reflecting a shift in practice over time. We found no significant difference in local recurrence rate or functional outcome in patients treated with or without cryoablation. This study aims to determine whether it can distinguish odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) and simple bone cyst (SBC) based solely on preoperative panoramic radiographs through a deep learning algorithm. (1) Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of patient data from January 2018 to December 2022 at Pusan National University Dental Hospital. This study included 63 cases of OKC confirmed by histological examination after surgical excision and 125 cases of SBC that underwent surgical curettage. All panoramic radiographs were obtained utilizing the Proline XC system (Planmeca Co., Helsinki, Finland), which already had diagnostic data on them. The panoramic images were cut into 299 × 299 cropped sizes and divided into 80% training and 20% validation data sets for 5-fold cross-validation. Inception-ResNet-V2 system was adopted to train for OKC and SBC discrimination. (2) Results: The classification network for diagnostic performance evaluation achieved 0.829 accuracy, 0.800 precision, 0.615 recall, and a 0.695 F1 score. (4) Conclusions: The deep learning algorithm demonstrated notable accuracy in distinguishing OKC from SBC, facilitated by CAM visualization. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of random biopsy and endo-cervical curettage (ECC), alone and together, in the diagnosis of high-grade cervical lesions in women with normal colposcopy. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 356 women who underwent colposcopy examination in the gynecology-oncology clinic of Roointan-Arash Women's Hospital, affiliated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences. All eligible women underwent colposcopy. In colposcopy examination, up to four biopsy samples were randomly taken for each quartile of the cervix and ECC was performed. Finally, the rate of intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and the relation between random biopsy and ECC and CIN diagnosis was determined. Results: In total, 27 (7.6%) low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL) and 19 (5.3%) high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) were detected in cases that underwent random biopsy. There was a significant association between the abnormal random biopsy results and having multiple sexual partners (p=0.001), cigarette (p=0.041), and hookah (p=0.033) smoking. Furthermore, 31 (8.7%) LSIL and 42 (11.8%) HSIL were reported in women who underwent ECC. There was a significant relation between the abnormal results of ECC and hookah consumption (p=0.008) and human papillomavirus (HPV) infection (p=0.011). The concordance (p=0.001) between random biopsy and ECC result was 71.2% and only in 28.8% of the cases one of the methods was normal and the other was abnormal. Conclusion: The present study showed that the simultaneous use of ECC and random biopsy in women with normal colposcopy increases the detection rate of precancerous lesions by up to 28.8%. Central and peripheral giant cell granulomas are benign entities mostly seen in mandibular anterior region at female individuals, usually with observed recurrence. Their etiology is still unclear, as is the optimal method for treating them. The aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence, treatment methods, recurrence rates, and initial and definitive correlation of central and peripheral giant cell granulomas. Patients who were referred to our clinic between 2013 and 2023 and who had the lesions' definitive diagnosis as "central giant cell granuloma" (CGCG) or "peripheral giant cell granuloma" (PGCG) were included in the study. Demographic data, recurrence rates, treatment methods, lesion location, clinical behaviors, and sizes were noted on the reports. A total of 30 lesions in 23 patients (14 PGCG and 9 CGCG) were evaluated in this study. The mean follow-up time was 62.6 months; 8 of 23 patients had systemic disease. While only 1 patient was observed to have cortical bone destruction in PCGC, all patients were found to have cortical bone destruction in CGCG (p < 0.05). In both lesions, the correlation of preliminary and definitive diagnosis was evaluated, and it was found to be 50% in PGCG while it was 77.7% in CGCG. The recurrence rates were 21.4% in PGCG and 33.3% in CGCG. Curettage was applied in all patients. Additional treatments (intralesional steroid injections, denasumab applications, resection, and graft application) were performed in 5 patients who were found to have CGCG (p = 0.004). However, there was no significant relation between treatment method and recurrence in CGCG (p > 0.05). Various peripheral lesions could mimic PGCG; thus, curettage therapy could be appropriate in the treatment of PGCG. Background: Chondroblastoma (CB), a rare benign bone tumor that produces chondrocytes, often develops in the epiphysis or apophysis of children and young adults. The treatment of these rare tumors is complex. The standard treatment protocol involves curettage with local adjuvants and bone graft or cement application. The authors examined 38 CBs to determine risk factors for local recurrence, complications, and functional outcomes following epiphyseal curettage. Methods: Twenty-two girls and sixteen boys aged 10 to 17 years with histologically confirmed chondroblastoma who arrived at our hospital between January 2000 and June 2021 were reviewed retrospectively. Clinical data, radiographic images, histological results, treatment, functional outcomes, and the local recurrence rate were examined—surgical treatment involved total tumor curettage, followed by bone grafting and adjuvant techniques. Local recurrences have also been reported. Results: The most frequently affected site was the proximal femur. Sites of involvement included the proximal femur in 10 (26.3%) cases, the proximal tibia in 8 (20.8%), the humerus in 5 cases (13.2%), the distal tibia in 4 cases (10.5%), the distal femur in 3 cases (7.9%), the supracetabular region in 3 cases (7.9%), the talus in 1 case (2.6%), the calcaneus in 1 case (2.6%), the scapula in 1 case (2.6%), the lumbar spine in 1 case (2.6%), and the iliac bone in 1 (2.6%) patient. The mean follow-up was 144.2 months (24 to 276). The local recurrence rate was 7.9%. The mean Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS) score was 28.3 points (17 to 30). The mean duration of symptoms at presentation was 5.8 (range, 1 to 28) months. Conclusion: Aggressive curettage and bone grafting resulted in local control and good outcomes in most pediatric patients. In a relatively small proportion of cases, long-term complications and recurrence can occur due to growth plate damage and late diagnosis. In patients admitted to the pediatric clinic with pain, which is often accompanied by localized edema and joint effusion, early detection via advanced radiological scans (X-ray, CT, or MRI) may prevent delays in diagnosis. Background General practitioners manage a significant proportion of inflammatory and neoplastic skin conditions on a daily basis. Various surgical techniques can be employed to aid in diagnosis, including punch biopsies, shave biopsy, shave excision, incisional biopsy, curettage and formal excision with closure. Requiring minimal equipment, shave procedures are quick to perform, produce good cosmetic outcomes and minimise costs. Objective Our aim is to discuss shave procedures in detail and highlight the difference between shave biopsies and shave excisions, as well as the role they each have in diagnosing an array of benign, inflammatory and malignant skin conditions, including melanocytic lesions. Discussion Shave procedures performed on suitable lesions by trained practitioners can be used for sampling or removing suspect lesions. PurposeSacrococcygeal pilonidal disease (SPD) is a global concern, notably in Southeast Europe and the Middle East. Unroofing curettage (UC), which provides faster recovery, better cosmetic appearance, and lower recurrence rates in the primary cases, was evaluated with the results of recurrent disease.MethodsThis retrospective study included 74 patients with recurrent disease who were over 16 years of age, experienced recurrence after at least one surgical attempt, and underwent unroofing curettage between 2007 and 2019. Operation time, return to work duration, and recurrence rates were assessed.ResultsMean age of patients was 29.8 ± 10.6 years, and 61 (82.4%) were male. Previous procedures included excision + flap reconstruction, excision + primary closure, and local excision + lay open. Mean operation time for unroofing curettage was 22 ± 5.3 min. Mean durations for return to work and recovery were 5.9 ± 3 days, and 6.5 ± 2.6 weeks, respectively. Mean follow-up duration was 81.6 ± 49 months. Recurrence was only observed in 1 (1.3%) patient. Unroofing curettage showed a mean recurrence-free period of 156.9 months (95% CI [, 152.9–160.9 months).ConclusionUnroofing curettage stands out as a low-recurrence approach, likely to persist as a treatment method, especially for a selected group with recurrence.

Background: This study aimed to introduce and evaluate a new treatment method for rectus sheath hematoma: ultrasound-guided suction using negative pressure, curettage, and percutaneous drainage. Methods: This retrospective study involved five patients with rectus sheath hematoma rectus sheath hematoma who had cesarean sections. For all patients, ultrasound revealed that the maximum diameter of their hematoma exceeded 70 mm. We summarized and analyzed the therapeutic effects of five patients and introduced the procedure, technical points, precautions, advantages, and indications of the procedure. Results: In all five patients, hematoma area was significantly reduced as confirmed by ultrasound at follow-up, and all patients’ abdominal pain were significantly relieved. No complications, including bleeding or infection, were detected at both the 2-h postoperative and 3-day follow-up assessments. The hematoma volume reduction rates were 90 %, 67 %, 81 %, 68 %, and 70 % at three days re-examinations, and 99 %, 96 %, 98 %, 98 %, and 90 % at the 30-day follow-up. Conclusion: The removal of rectus sheath hematoma by suction using negative pressure can prevent patients from undergoing abdominal wall exploration, offering a less invasive alternative while potentially achieving comparable therapeutic effect to surgical hematoma removal in certain cases. This treatment method shows potential for clinical application, particularly in relatively young and healthy postpartum women, and is expected to be popularized and applied in clinical practice.

PURPOSE: The approach to the treatment of enchondromas of the hand is varied, and there is no clear consensus on graft source, fixation, or need for intraoperative adjuvant therapy. We reviewed a cohort of patients who underwent curettage and bone grafting with cancellous allograft chips without internal fixation or adjuvant therapy and reported on postoperative range of motion (ROM) and recurrence rates. METHODS: We performed a retrospective review of patients who underwent surgical treatment for hand enchondroma over a 23-year period. We collected information on demographics and presenting enchondroma characteristics, including Takigawa classification and presence of pathologic fracture or associated syndromes. Patients were treated with open biopsy with curettage and grafting with cancellous allograft chips. Postoperative ROM, complications, and recurrences were recorded. RESULTS: Our series included 111 enchondromas in 104 patients. Seventeen of 104 patients (16%) had a diagnosis of Ollier disease. Average length of follow-up was 3.1 years. Eighty-one percent of patients achieved full ROM. Treatment of patients who presented with preoperative pathologic fracture resulted in a greater frequency of reduced postoperative ROM at 28% (9/32) compared to 15% (11/72) of those patients who did not present with preoperative pathologic fracture. Local recurrence developed in 5 of 50 (10%) patients with a minimum of 2 years of follow-up. Local recurrence occurred at higher-than-average rates in patients with giant form Takigawa classification (43%, 3/7) and Ollier disease (23%, 3/13). CONCLUSIONS: Treatment of enchondromas with biopsy, curettage, and allograft results in full ROM in 81% of patients. Patients with preoperative pathologic fracture should be advised of a greater risk of postoperative extension deficit. Abstract Background Ameloblastoma (AM) is the most common benign odontogenic tumor, which is more often detected in the mandible than maxilla, especially the mandibular body and mandibular angle. Pediatric AM is a rare disease, especially in patients aged 10 and younger. Compared with the mainstream osteotomy and reconstructive surgery for adult ameloblastoma, there is more room for discussion in the treatment of pediatric ameloblastoma. The postoperative functional and psychological influence can not be ignored. Especially for children in the period of growth and development, an osteotomy is often challenging to be accepted by their parents. We report two patients with ameloblastoma under 10 years old who are treated with curettage and fenestration, which is a beneficial method for children with ameloblastoma. Case presentation We present two cases of classic ameloblastoma in children. We describe in detail the patients’ characteristics, treatment processes, and follow-up result. The bone formation and reconstruction in the lesion area after fenestration decompression and curettage are recorded at every clinic review. The surgical details and principles of curettage and decompression are also described and discussed. The two patients have good bone shape recovery and no recurrence. Conclusions Children are in the growth and development period and possess an extremely strong ability of bone formation and reconstruction. Based on the principles of minimally invasive and functional preservation, we believe that curettage combined with decompression can be the first choice for treating AM in children, especially for mandibular lesions.

Background Ingrown toenail is a common condition that results in chronic pain, recurrent infections, and difficulty in performing daily activities. Our aim is to compare two surgical methods for the treatment of ingrown toenails: wedge resection with curetting versus wedge resection curetting followed by electrocauterization of the nail bed.

Background: The main aim of this study was to analyse the 6-month survival rates in peri-acetabular metastasis patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA) with an acetabular cage and without curettage. The secondary objectives were to analyse the global survival rates, the factors influencing patient survival and to evaluate mechanical complication rates after THA. Methods: This study was carried out on a cohort of 93 consecutive patients who underwent THA with an acetabular cage without curettage for acetabular metastasis or multiple myeloma lesions between 2010 and 2020. The National Death Registry was consulted to obtain the exact date of death of the patients; the minimum follow-up time was 2 years. Results: The 6-month survival rate for all types of cancer was 78 % [68 – 85], the 1-year survival rate was 66 % [55 – 74], and the 5-year survival rate was 26 % [17 – 36]. The median overall survival for the cohort was 24.37 months [16.10 – 32.63]. The mean overall survival was 46.02 months [32.89 – 59.16]. At last contact, 86 % of the operated patients were walking again.No patient died from surgery. The ECOG performance status score, the number of bone metastatic sites, the presence of visceral metastases and the number of lines of systemic therapy undertaken prior to surgery were negative survival factors. Three patients (3.2 %) had early prosthetic dislocation, 2 patients (2.2 %) showed aseptic loosening of her partial hip implant after 10 and 11 years respectively and 4 patients (4.3 %) had an early infection treated by debridement, antibiotics and implant retention to control the infection. During the follow-up period, no new femoral metastases were detected in any patient. Conclusion: Surgery without curettage is an effective treatment for periacetabular metastasis. It gives reliable results, regardless of the type of acetabular lesion, allowing most patients to walk again and does not modify the patient’s survival.

Objective: To compare the clinical outcomes of microwave-assisted intralesional curettage(MAIC) with those of en bloc resection and autogenous fibular reconstruction (EBR-AFR) for treating grade III giant cell tumor of the bone (GCTB) of the distal radius and to elucidate the indications for wrist preservation surgery. Materials and methods: In this retrospective study, 19 patients with grade III GCTB of the distal radius who underwent surgery at three medical institutions were included and categorized based on their surgical pattern. Seven patients underwent MAIC and internal fixation with bone cement (MAIC group) and 12 underwent EBR-AFR (EBR-AFR group). To evaluate the function of the affected limb postoperatively, wrist range of motion, grip strength, Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS) scores were recorded. Results: The follow-up time of the MAIC group was 73.57 ± 28.61 (36-116) months, with no recurrence or lung metastasis. In contrast, the follow-up time of the EBR-AFR group was 55.67 ± 28.74 (36-132) months, with 1 case of local recurrence (8.3%, 1/12) and 1 case of lung metastasis (8.3%, 1/12). The wrist flexion, extension, supination, pronation, grip strength were better in the MAIC group than in the EBR-AFR group. Although there was no statistically significant difference in the MSTS score between the two groups, it is noteworthy that the MAIC group exhibited significantly superior emotional acceptance and hand positioning compared to the EBR-AFR group(p < 0.05). Conclusion: The functional outcomes of the MAIC group are better. The treatment strategy for grade III GCTB of the distal radius should be determined based on the specific preoperative imaging findings. Background: Solitary Bone Cyst (SBC), also known as a simple bone cyst, hemorrhagic cyst, or traumatic cyst is classified by the WHO among non-odontogenic benign lesions of the jaw. The article explores the use of a static 3D-printed surgical guide to treat mandibular SBC, emphasizing a minimally surgical approach for this lesion. Case Presentation: A 20-year-old woman was referred for a persistent mandibular SBC lacuna, without specific complaints. Her medical history included a previous bone trepanation for a SBC in the same area, radiologically and surgically confirmed. X-ray assessment showed a well-defined unilocular radiolucency surrounding the root of the first left lower molar (tooth #36), measuring 10 × 10 mm. Pulp sensitivity was normal. CBCT data and STL files of dental cast were obtained preoperatively and registered. A 3D-printed surgical guide was used for minimally invasive trepanation of the buccal cortical. The simulation used a targeted endodontic microsurgery approach in order to determine axis and diameter of the trephine. Surgery was performed under local anesthesia. The guide was tooth supported integrating tubes and a fork for guiding precise trepanation. A 3.5 mm round bone window was created, leaving an empty cavity confirming SBC diagnosis and permitting bone curettage. A blood clot was obtained to promote bone healing. Complete reossification was observed after 6 months. The follow-up at 2 years confirmed a complete bone healing with normal pulp sensitivity. Discussion: The 3D-printed windowed surgical guide with dental support offers big advantages, including improved visibility and reduced errors. Compared to traditional guides, it eliminates visual hindrance and allows easier and quick access to confined areas as well as an improved irrigation during drilling process. The article also highlights the importance of preoperative planning while acknowledging potential limitations and errors and surgical complications. Conclusion: The use of the 3D-printed surgical guide could be used in routine for minimally invasive intervention of SBC. This case also demonstrates the potential utility of this approach in various procedures in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
