This book discusses novel intelligent-system algorithms and methods in cybernetics, presenting new approaches in the field of cybernetics and automation control theory. It constitutes the proceedings of the Cybernetics and Automation Control Theory Methods in Intelligent Algorithms Section of the 8th Computer Science On-line Conference 2019 (CSOC 2019), held on-line in April 2019.

This book presents real-world problems and exploratory research that describes novel approaches in software engineering, cybernetics and algorithms in the context of intelligent systems. Die heute wirksamen Rahmenbedingungen für das Gestalten, Steuern und Weiterentwickeln von (verteilten) Wertschöpfungsprozessen sind: • Volatilität: eine hohe Schwankungsbreite mit unbeständiger Veränderungsgeschwindigkeit. • Unsicherheit: eine Unkenntnis über relevante Einflussgrößen und ihr dynamisches Zusammenspiel. • Komplexität: unüberschaubar viele Einflussgrößen und Variablen mit vielfältigen Wirkungen. • Ambiguität: eine mehrdeutige Interpretierbarkeit von Informationen und Schnittstellen. Die Grundfragen von Führungskräften in einer solchen VUCA-Welt sind also: • Wie viele Informationen über die aktuelle Problemsituation habe ich, mit welcher Schwankungsbreite und mit welchen Interpretationsmöglichkeiten? • Welche Handlungsoptionen stehen zur Verfügung und wie gut kann ich deren erwartbare Auswirkungen abschätzen? Genau hier knüpft der vorliegende Tagungsband an. In ihm werden Erkenntnisse aus Systemtheorie und Kybernetik 1. und 2. Ordnung auf die Kommunikations- und Entscheidungsprozesse entlang der arbeitsteiligen (oft verteilten) Wertschöpfung in einer VUCA-Welt bezogen.

Society is now facing challenges for which the traditional management toolbox is increasingly inadequate. Well-grounded theoretical frameworks, such as systems thinking and cybernetics, offer general level interpretation schemes and models that are capable of supporting understanding of complex phenomena and are not impacted by the passage of time. This book serves the knowledge society to address the complexity of decision making and problem solving in the 21st century with contributions from systems and cybernetics. A multi-disciplinary approach has been adopted to support diversity and to develop inter- and trans-disciplinary knowledge within the shared thematic of problem solving and decision making in the 21st century. Der Sammelband umfasst die Beiträge zur Jahrestagung der Gesellschaft für Wirtschafts- und Sozialkybernetik e.V. vom Oktober 2015. Traditionell gedacht als interdisziplinäre Plattform stand die Tagung unter dem Leitthema: Kybernetik – oder Regelung und Kommunikation in Organisation und Gesellschaft. Die Beiträge beleuchten das Thema »Digitale Transformation« und liefern Ansätze der Kybernetik im Hinblick auf Erkenntnisse, wie die heutigen Formen und Technologien der Kommunikation Organisationen beeinflussen. Sie liefern Hinweise, wie die soziale Dimension von Wissen sowie eine ökonomisch-soziale Nutzung von Information gestaltet werden kann. Die Wirtschafts- und Sozialkybernetik sieht sich vor der Aufgabe, neue Realitäten mit ihren vielfältig verschachtelten und interagierenden Systemen in ihrer ganzen Diversität systematisch zu beschreiben und zu modellieren. Ziel ist, Instrumente bereitzustellen, die es der Praxis erlauben, systematisch Gestaltungsoptionen zu entdecken und umzusetzen.

This book presents new methods for and approaches to real-world problems as well as exploratory research describing novel mathematics and cybernetics applications in intelligent systems. It focuses on modern trends in selected fields of technological systems and automation control theory. It also introduces new algorithms, methods and applications of intelligent systems in automation, technological and industrial applications. This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Cybernetics and Mathematics Applications in Intelligent Systems Section of the 6th Computer Science On-line Conference 2017 (CSOC 2017), held in April 2017.

Between 1946 and 1953, the Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation sponsored a series of conferences aiming to bring together a diverse, interdisciplinary community of scholars and researchers who would join forces to lay the groundwork for the new science of cybernetics. These conferences, known as the Macy conferences, constituted a landmark for the field. They were the first to grapple with new terms such as information and feedback and to develop a cohesive and broadly applicable theory of systems that would become equally applicable to living beings and machines, economic and cognitive processes, and many scholarly disciplines. The concepts that emerged from the conferences come to permeate thinking in many fields, including biology, neurology, sociology, ecology, economics, politics, psychoanalysis, linguistics, and computer science. This book contains the complete transcripts of all ten Macy conferences and the guidelines for the conference proceedings. These transcripts are supplemented with an introduction by Claus Pias that charts the significance of the Macy conferences to the history of science.

This volume is based on the research papers presented in the 4th Computer Science On-line Conference.The volume Intelligent Systems in Cybernetics and Automation Control Theory presents new approaches and methods to real-world problems, and in particular, exploratory research that describes novel approaches in the field of cybernetics and automation control theory. As we approach the end of the 20th century we can look back upon the achievements that have been made in a variety of human endeavours with pride. Enormous strides have been made to improve the quality of life of millions of people through the application of the scientific discoveries made during this and past centuries. The 20th century will be remembered as much for the mass exploitation of scientific discovery as for the discoveries themselves. The technological age has meant that the human being is able to contemplate activities which'defy'nature. For example, some of the work involved in the preparation of these proceedings has been done whilst travelling at over 500 miles per hour seven miles above the surface of the earth. It is not difficult to conjecture about the effect that this relatively recent technology has had upon a number of'systems'. Air transportation has provided a number of benefits including such disparate examples such as enabling holidays, famine relief and the cross fertilisation of cultural practices from other lands. Equally, there have been undesirable effects such as enabling the means of mass destruction, interference in other cultures and the speedy transportation of disease. Moreover, the physical presence of the aeroplane itself represents the consumption of fossil fuels, a source of pollution and a change in the way think about life. The view expressed here is of course the view of an inhabitant of the'western world'.

The 6th ESPRIT Conference is being held in Brussels from the 27th November to the 1 st December 1989. Well over 1500 participants from all over Europe are expected to attend the various events during the week. The Conference will offer the opportunity to be updated on the results of ongoing Esprit projects and to develop Europe-wide contacts with colleagues, both within a specific branch of Information Technology and across different branches. The first three days of the week are devoted to presentations of Esprit I projects, structured into plenary and parallel sessions; this year there is special emphasis on panels and workshops where participants can exchange ideas and hold in-depth discussions on specific topics. The different areas of Esprit work are covered: Microelectronics, Informa­ tion Processing Systems, Office and Business Systems, Computer Integrated Manufac­ turing, Basic Research and different aspects of the Information Exchange System. During the IT Forum on Thursday 30th November, major European industrial and political decision-makers will address the audience in the morning. In the afternoon, different aspects of Technology Transfer will be discussed with the participation of outside experts, and presentations on the future plans for community R&D in IT will take place.

This volume contains all papers presented at the Eighth European Meeting on Cybernetics and Systems Research. 169 draft papers were submitted for evaluation. In the process of careful refereeing, 33 papers were rejected and the remaining authors were invited to submit final papers. Out of these, 119 were accepted for presentation at the conference and publication in this volume. These papers were prepared by 173 scientists, authors and co-authors, from 22 European and non-European countries, with different cultural, social, and economic structures. Everybody tried hard to make this conference and its proceedings a true representation of state-of-the-art research worldwide: The members of the Programme Committee and the Chairmen of the Symposia were selected among the ~internationally leading scientists. Great care was taken not to make this conference a'European'or even'Austrian'one. We are happy and proud to hear that these'European Meetings'(the name is a purely traditional one) are recognized as the internationally leading conferences in cybernetics and systems research. Important scientists from allover the world carefully prepare their papers, containing their most recent research findings, and then enjoy the discussions with their co 11 eagues.

The'world'is becoming more and more intractable. We have learned to discern'systems'in it, we have developed a highly sophisticated math­ ematical apparatus to'model''them, large computer simulation programs handle thousands of equations with zillions of parameters. But how ade­ quate are these efforts? Part One of this volume is a discussion containing some proposals for eliminating the constraints we encounter when approaching complex systems with our models: Is it possible, at all, to design a political or econom­ ic system without considering killing, torture, and oppression? Can we adequately model the present state of affairs while ignoring their often symbolic and paradoxical nature? Is it possible to explain teleological concepts such as'means'and'ends'in terms of basically 17th century Newtonian mechanics? Can we really make appropriate use of the vast a­ mount of systems concepts without exploring their relations, without de­ veloping a'system of systems concepts'? And why do more than 95% of all system modelling efforts end in just a heap of printed paper, and nothing else? Leading scientists from different disciplines, who have different viewpoints and use very different styles in presenting their message were invited to present their approaches to these and to other problems of equal importance: Either as Plenary Lectures at the Seventh European Meeting on Cybernetics and Systems Research at the University of Vienna, Austria, (Professors Stafford Beer, Helga Nowotny, and Robert Rosen (Ross Ashby Memorial Lecture)) or as Invited Lectures to the Austrian Society

Innovation und Unternehmertum sind die treibenden Kräfte einer leistungsfähigen und wachstumsstarken Volkswirtschaft. Nur wenn Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft gemeinsam praxisorientierte Lösungen entwickeln, bleibt die Innovationsfähigkeit als einer der wichtigsten unternehmerischen Erfolgsfaktoren erhalten. Bei allen Formen von Innovationen, sei es die inkrementelle Verbesserung oder der radikale Durchbruch, die neue Technologie oder das neue Geschäftsmodell, die Anregung oder die Umsetzung von Innovation, spielt Information eine zentrale Rolle. Aus der systemischen Perspektive der Kybernetik ist jedoch Information nicht allein als Inputfaktor für Innovation zu begreifen, sondern bilden Innovation und Information zwei untrennbar verbundene Grundlagen wirtschaftlichen Erfolgs, die sich gegenseitig bedingen. Die im Tagungsband versammelten Beiträge der Jahrestagung'Innovation und Information'der Gesellschaft für Wirtschafts- und Sozialkybernetik (GWS) reflektieren das facettenreiche Tagungsprogramm und zeigen damit das breite Spektrum des Zusammenwirkens von Innovation und Information auf.

Die Autorinnen und Autoren des vorliegenden Tagungsbands setzen sich mit der Frage auseinander, wie kybernetische Ansätze ökonomisch sinnvoll eingesetzt werden können, um die Unternehmen von heute auf die Welt von morgen vorzubereiten. Unter dem Titel »Unternehmenskybernetik 2020 – Betriebswirtschaftliche und technische Aspekte von Geschäftsprozessen« sind die Vorträge der gleichnamigen Jahrestagung der Gesellschaft für Wirtschafts- und Sozialkybernetik (GWS) versammelt, die vom 14. bis 16. Mai 2007 stattfand. Sie wurde an der Rheinisch-Westfälischen Technischen Hochschule Aachen durchgeführt und vom Institut für Unternehmenskybernetik e.V. (IfU) in Kooperation mit dem Zentrum für Lern- und Wissensmanagement und Lehrstuhl für Informatik im Maschinenbau (ZLW / IMA) ausgerichtet. In den sechs Keynotes sowie den mehr als 70 interdisziplinären Beiträgen aus insgesamt acht verschiedenen Arbeitsforen spiegelt sich zugleich die Wichtigkeit wie Vielfältigkeit eines prospektiven und ökonomischen Umgangs mit den komplexen Problemstellungen unternehmenswirtschaftlicher Prozesse wider. Die Autorinnen und Autoren widmen ihre Beiträge der Aufgabe einer kybernetisch orientierten Zukunftsgestaltung in unterschiedlichen Problemfeldern. Nachhaltige Verbesserungen interner Produktions- und Geschäftsprozesse in den Bereichen ökonomischer Entscheidungsfindung, technischer Entwicklung und partizipativer Prävention bilden den Kern der Foren eins bis drei. Die Foren vier bis sechs untersuchen konkrete Werkzeuge und Strategien der Kybernetik für eine prospektive Entwicklung sowie Stabilisierung von Unternehmen. Die Beiträge aus Forum sieben zeigen neue Möglichkeiten des Wissensmanagements auf, damit Informationsaufnahme, -verständnis und -verarbeitung heute sowie in Zukunft überhaupt noch gewährleistet werden können. In welcher Hinsicht insbesondere Innovationen mehr und mehr zur entscheidenden Größe der Wettbewerbsfähigkeit von Unternehmen avancieren, zeigen die Beiträge des Forums acht.

Heinz von Foerster (1911-2002), à la fois mathématicien, physicien, philosophe, théoricien transdisciplinaire, magicien... avait de nombreuses cordes à son arc! Il a fortement contribué aux approches des systèmes complexes en créant la cybernétique des systèmes observants, qui renouvelle la première cybernétique, et en participant activement à la théorie de l'auto-organisation. Ces contributions témoignent des qualités scientifiques et humaines de celui qu'on a pu qualifier de'Socrate'de la cybernétique.

Machine learning and cybernetics play an important role in many modern electronic, computer and communications systems. Automated processing of information by these systems requires intelligent analysis of various types of data and optimal decision making. In recent years, we have witnessed a rapid expansion of research and development activities in machine learning and cybernetics. To provide opportunities for researchers in these areas to share their ideas and foster collaborations, the International Conference on Machines and Cybernetics (ICMLC) has been held annually since 2002. The conference series has achieved a great success in attracting a large number of paper submissions and participants and enabling fruitful exchanges among academic and industrial researchers and postgraduate students. In 2005, the conference (ICMLC 2005) received 2461 full paper submissions and the Program Committee selected 1050 of them for presentation. It is especially encouraging that the conference is attracting more and more international attention. This year, there are contributions from 21 countries and 211 universities worldwide. Out of the 1050 papers presented at the conference, we selected 114 papers to be published in this volume of Lecture Notes in Computer Science.

The aim of this volume of scientific essays is twofold. On the one hand, by remembering the scientific figure of Eduardo R. Caianiello, it aims at focusing on his outstanding contributions – from theoretical physics to cybernetics – which after so many years still represent occasion of innovative paths to be fruitfully followed. It must be stressed the contribution that his interdisciplinary methodology can still be of great help in affording and solving present day complex problems. On the other hand, it aims at pinpointing with the help of the scientists contributing to the volume – some crucial problems in present day research in the fields of interest of Eduardo Caianiello and which are still among the main lines of investigation of some of the Institutes founded by Eduardo (Istituto di Cibernetica del CNR, IIAS, etc).

Vorteile der'Globalisierung'sind auf interkultureller Zusammenarbeit begründet. Interkulturalität bedeutet immer, dass verschiedene Systeme, vor allem Werte- und Denksysteme, die durch Nationalkulturen geprägt sind, miteinander in Kontakt kommen. Dieses Aufeinandertreffen kann trotz aller Potentiale auch Schwierigkeiten auslösen. Dieser Band verbessert die Kenntnis der Unterschiede, erarbeitet Lösungsvorschläge und trägt so zu einer besseren interkulturellen Zusammenarbeit bei. Verschiedenen Facetten der interkulturellen Kooperation gehen die Autoren dieses Sammelbandes nach, in dem nicht nur Einzelaspekte, sondern auch das Zusammenwirken verschiedener Faktoren erörtert werden. The theme of this book on human and machine perception is communication, interaction, and integration. For each basic topic there are invited lectures, corresponding to approaches in nature and machines, and a panel discussion. The lectures present the state of the art, outlining open questions and stressing synergies among the disciplines related to perception. The panel discussions are forums for open debate. The wide spectrum of topics allows comparison and synergy and can stimulate new approaches.

Circular Causal and Feedback Mechanisms in Biological and Social Systems« zehn Konferenzen unter der Schirmherrschaft der Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation veranstaltet. Auf den neuen begrifflichen Grundlagen von ›Information‹, ›Feedback‹ und ›analog/digital‹ suchten sie eine universelle Theorie der Regulation, Steuerung und Kontrolle zu entwickeln, die in den folgenden Jahrzehnten in Biologie, Neurologie, Sprach- und Computerwissenschaften, aber auch in Psychoanalyse, Ökologie, Politik und Ökonomie ausschwärmen sollte. Applied Systems and Cybernetics, Volume IV: Systems Research in Health Care, Biocybernetics and Ecology documents the proceedings of the International Congress on Applied Systems Research and Cybernetics.
