Background: The aim of this study was to examine some psychometric characteristics of the Chilean-adapted version of the Quantitative Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (Q-CHAT-24) (24) in a group of unselected children (community sample). This version was administered remotely through an online version during the pandemic period to caregivers of children, aged 18– 24 months, registered in four primary care polyclinics of the Health Service Araucanıa Sur, Chile. ́ Methods: An intentional non-probabilistic sampling was used. Three hundred and thirteen toddlers were examined. Participants completed an online version of the Q-CHAT-24 which was disseminated through the REDCap platform. Evidence of reliability through internal consistency and evidence of predictive validity through ROC curve analysis were realized. Results: The mean age of the children evaluated was 21.16 months. The ShapiroWilk test revealed that Q-CHAT-24 scores was normally distributed. 71 cases (23.12%) scored 38 points or more on the Q-CHAT-24, qualifying as Autistic Risk. 48 cases (15.63%) were confirmed as autistic through the ADOS-2 Module T. All items were positively correlated with Q-CHAT-24 total score. All items were positively correlated with Q-CHAT-24 total score. Internal consistency was acceptable for the Q-CHAT-24 (Cronbach́ s a=0.78). The internal consistencies were analyzed for the Q-CHAT-24 Factors, and they were good for factor 1 “Communication and Social Interaction” (Cronbach́ s a=0.85) and acceptable for factor 2 “Restrictive and Repetitive Patterns” (Cronbach́ s a=0.74). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses were performed. The AUC values were 0.93 with statistical significance (p<0.01). For the cut-off point of 38, the Sensitivity, Specificity and Youden index values were 0.89, 0.8 and 0.7, respectively. The Positive Predictive Value (PPV) was 86% and the Negative Predictive Value (NPV) was 85%. Conclusions: In accordance with the objectives of this study, evidence of reliability and predictive validity was demonstrated for the Q-CHAT-24 in this Chilean population. More importantly, this study provides Sensitivity and Specificity data for a remote application version of an autism screening tool already validated in Chile. The implications of this have to do with the possibility of establishing a remote assessment system for children at risk of autism on a population scale. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The shift to a knowledge information society has given rise to a need for lifelong learning programmes. Such programmes are especially relevant for public health professionals, whose dynamic field of practice is subject to changes due to rapidly developing technologies, evolving expectations of the labour market and new health treats. Lifelong learning programmes for public health should address topics like planning, organisation, leadership, teamwork and research methods, and schools of public health should introduce innovative educational approaches that enable professionals to learn from the experiences of others. This paper describes the rationale for the development of a European online problem-based course on leadership for public health professionals in Europe, the first pilot evaluation and its impact on the final shape of the course. Problem-based learning (PBL) is an excellent approach for a course focused on lifelong learning, because it stimulates constructive, collaborative, and self-directed learning from authentic problems that are relevant to professional practice, and thereby facilitates the transfer of knowledge. Blended learning, which combines face-to-face and online learning, provides new opportunities for working professionals, enabling participation in international student teams and attendance of lectures by international experts without the need to travel. This makes blended problem-based learning a highly effective and efficient learning strategy for continuing professional development. The paper presents a structure for an online pilot leadership course underpinned by a review of the literature and developed and implemented by an international collaboration of four European universities. The curriculum consisted of eight sessions. Each session was developed and offered by a different university center. Two first sessions were delivered face-to-face and the other sessions were online. The seven-step approach of Maastricht University was suitable for a blended mode of PBL. Twelve public health professionals for NHS took part in the course and final evaluation. They found it difficult to use online communication tools for learning and professional activities. Based on the results of the pilot the leadership course was adapted. The training at the beginning was extended with information on behaviour during online sessions. Online practice sessions were integrated before the course. The problems were reformulated and build around a common theme. Educational institutions who would like to embark on a similar project, should consider complexities related to coordination, development and implementation of such a complex educational practice.

Despite several years of successfully applying problem-based learning at Maastricht University, the Faculty of Medicine observed a slow erosion of problem-based practices and "PBL fatigue" among themselves and students. In response to this fatigue and new research into the development of the young adult brain, Active Self-Directed Learning was introduced through the new bachelor of European Public Health programme in an effort to re-energise the classical PBL model and reduce or eliminate erosion. ASDL is split into a four part learning cycle: 1) sensitisation, 2) exploration, 3) integration, and 4) application. The cycle supports problem-based learning and the developing minds of students through the integration of information, critical thinking and self-evaluation, while also teaching self-responsibility and team management skills. When applied as part of a problem-based learning curriculum, ASDL at Maastricht University helped reduce PBL fatigue and re-energised students' interest in PBL within the first EPH cohort (2006-2009) according to survey feedback obtained after the 5th semester. The positive student response was tempered by recommendations on how to continue improving the ASDL model. (Contains 3 figures.)

Background Simulation models are increasingly important for supporting decision-making in public health. However, due to lack of training, many public health professionals remain unfamiliar with constructing simulation models and using their outputs for decision-making. This study contributes to filling this gap by developing a competency framework on simulation model-supported decision-making targeting Master of Public Health education. Methods The study combined a literature review, a two-stage online Delphi survey and an online consensus workshop. A draft competency framework was developed based on 28 peer-reviewed publications. A two-stage online Delphi survey involving 15 experts was conducted to refine the framework. Finally, an online consensus workshop, including six experts, evaluated the competency framework and discussed its implementation. Results The competency framework identified 20 competencies related to stakeholder engagement, problem definition, evidence identification, participatory system mapping, model creation and calibration and the interpretation and dissemination of model results. The expert evaluation recommended differentiating professional profiles and levels of expertise and synergizing with existing course contents to support its implementation. Conclusions The competency framework developed in this study is instrumental to including simulation model-supported decision-making in public health training. Future research is required to differentiate expertise levels and develop implementation strategies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background The 'WHO-ASPHER Roadmap to Professionalizing the Public Health Workforce in the European Region' provides recommendations for strategic and systematic workforce planning around professionalization levers including: (i) competencies, (ii) training and education, (iii) formal organization, (iv) professional credentialing and (v) code of ethics and professional conduct as well as taxonomy and enumeration. It was based on a literature review till 2016. This scoping review aims to explore how the professionalization was documented in the literature between 2016 and 2022. Methods Following the Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines, we searched Medline via PubMed, Web of Science, ERIC via EBSCO and Google Scholar and included studies on professionalization levers. Four critical appraisal tools were used to assess qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods studies and grey literature. The PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) was used for reporting. Results Eleven articles included in this review spanned 61 countries, targeting undergraduate, master's, doctoral degrees and continuing professional development. Most of these documents were reviews. About half provided a definition of the public health workforce; more than half covered the taxonomy and included information about competences, but the use of frameworks was sporadic and inconsistent. Formal organization and the necessity of a code of conduct for the public health workforce were acknowledged in only two studies. Conclusions In spite of some efforts to professionalize the public health workforce, this process is fragmented and not fully recognized and supported. There is an urgent need to engage policymakers and stakeholders to prioritize investments in strengthening the public health workforce worldwide. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background The public health workforce (PHW) needs to have the necessary capacities to provide healthcare services and public health services. Training needs assessments (TNA) is necessary to assess and understand PHW and their capacities to provide services. This review attempts to identify and describe published studies on tools and methodologies for TNA of the workforce used in public health and health-related fields. Methods A systematized review of literature was carried out in February 2022. Cochrane Handbook for systematic review version 5.2.0 and PRISMA 2020 statement were used to guide reporting. This review includes original research, reports and grey literature from the websites of public health organizations in English. Results This review included 38 documents for evidence synthesis. Twenty-seven documents were indexed literature (71%) and 11 were grey documents (29%). TNA documents were published between 1999 and 2022. TNA was performed in many countries around the world. The organizations used either a validated questionnaire or created their own tools to perform organizational and individual self-assessments. The TNA tools were developed using different methods such as expert panels, literature reviews, stakeholder interviews and quantitative surveys. Conclusion TNA is useful for defining and characterizing the public health workforce in every organization. Workforces consist of individuals who have their own training needs to fulfill their tasks. Therefore, individual and organizational TNA should be combined to study the public health workforce and their capacities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
