La Minería de Datos Educativa reúne a los distintos métodos que permiten extraer información novedosa y útil a partir de grandes volúmenes de datos provenientes de contextos educativos. El presente trabajo describe el proceso de identificación, a través de técnicas de visualización, de las características más relevantes en lo que se refiere al rendimiento académico de los alumnos de la Facultad de Informática de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata. Este es un paso inicial que ejerce una gran influencia en la eficiencia y eficacia de los métodos que permiten modelar la información ya que los resultados a obtener mejoran al reducir la dimensión del problema. Esto último redunda en una representación más clara y simple de la información disponible. Para lograrlo, en este artículo se propone analizar y aplicar, luego del preprocesamiento de los datos, diferentes visualizaciones de los atributos sobre las clases o respuestas esperadas. Con este enfoque se espera generar una metodología de trabajo que ofrezca resultados fáciles de usar e interpretar. Su aplicación a la información correspondiente a alumnos regulares y no regulares de la UNLP permitió establecer relaciones interesantes acerca del desempeño académico de los alumnos. Esto último impacta directamente en las condiciones por las cuales abandonan sus estudios universitarios.

El uso educativo de Internet, es de gran relevancia en todos los niveles de una sociedad. Es una herramienta global de consulta en tiempo real, un marco para la difusión, intercambio y socialización de conocimientos,que trasciende cuestiones geográficas y restricciones horarias. Pero, para aquellas personas que sufren alguna discapacidad, problemas de visión, de comprensión, de motricidad, que podrían aprovechar al máximo las potencialidades de Internet, en cambio, se enfrentan a una nueva barrera digital que les imposibilita el acceso a esta importante herramienta. Los sitios educativos más aún, deberían impartir políticas que mejoren el acceso Web, como así mismo,cumplimentar normas de diseño universal, habilitando el uso de la información a la mayor audiencia posible sin límites arbitrarios. Este artículo tiene por objetivo contar la experiencia de hacer accesible el sitio de la Facultad de Informática de la UNLP, respetando estándares internacionales de accesibilidad y calidad de uso. También, se va a analizar la complejidad de llevar a cabo este emprendimiento, la problemática de alterar gran parte del código del sitio en pos de lograr un producto al alcance de todos.

La cátedra "Proyecto de Software" es una materia donde los alumnos desarrollan aplicaciones web usando PHP. Cuenta con un promedio de 180 alumnos por año y, por la etapa de la carrera donde se encuentra, muchos de ellos trabajan. Esta cátedra abarca una gran cantidad de temas que se abordan en forma práctica desarrollando trabajos. Dadas estas particularidades, desde hace cuatro años se utilizan herramientas de elearning como apoyo a las clases presenciales, y desde el año pasado herramientas para el manejo de versiones a fin de organizar las entregas de los trabajos prácticos y agilizar el proceso de corrección. El objetivo del presente artículo es presentar la experiencia en el uso de algunas herramientas de código abierto durante el dictado de la materia Proyecto de Software. Se presentarán tanto las herramientas de gestión utilizadas como las que se proponen dentro de los contenidos curriculares. Se analizará la metodología utilizada y los resultados obtenidos en la cursada 2008.

This study explores international students' perceptions of the transition to the online learning environment while they were studying on an Erasmus+ Study Mobility Programme at host universities in Europe during the COVID-19 pandemic in spring 2020. Applying the theoretical framework based on the affective, behavioural and cognitive aspects of adaptation in the case of international students, this study reveals what adaptive responses and decisions sojourners made, and how their study experience and learning capabilities were challenged by the restrictive measures introduced at host universities due to the state of emergency declared in the host countries. Fourteen semi-structured interviews with both incoming and outgoing international students were conducted. Results reveal that studying online with reduced social interaction was a real challenge to Erasmus students. They were lacking cultural knowledge of the destination country as well as the insights typically arising from face-to-face teaching and social interactions. However, findings also expose students' satisfaction with their academic accomplishments. In this regard, specific proposals are made for universities that consider virtual mobility programmes for international students in the future.

Child-to-parent violence is a form of family violence where the children are the aggressors. Objective: This study first aimed to analyze the psychometric validity of the Child-to-Parent Violence Questionnaire (CPV-Q) among Ecuadorian adolescents. Second, the measurement invariance across the children's sex was examined. Finally, the prevalence of child-to-parent violence (CPV) was also determined. Methods: A total of 2084 adolescents aged 12 to 18 years participated in this study. The participants were residents of two provinces in southern Ecuador. A higher percentage of participants were women. They lived mostly with their father and mother. The married marital status of the parents was the most frequently reported. Most of the fathers and mothers of the participants completed primary education. The sampling design was probabilistic, with proportional allocation by age and quotas according to the number of inhabitants per province. The sample size was determined by using a finite population formula. All the participants were randomly selected. The CPV-Q was used to assess child-to-parent violence. The items were adapted linguistically and tailored to the Ecuadorian context. Results: The questionnaire demonstrated excellent model fit and adequate reliability. Full measurement invariance was held for all scales except for the reasons subscale pertaining to fathers. Statistically significant differences were observed with respect to the sex of the aggressor, with control/domain behaviors toward both parents and psychological violence toward the mother being more frequent among daughters than sons. Similarly, reactive reasons were more frequent among daughters than sons. Conclusion: This study provides significant psychometric evidence on the CPV-Q in Ecuadorian adolescents along with data on the prevalence of violence against parents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective To identify the TMPRSS6 gene variants in Mexican patients with iron treatment refractoriness, to describe hematological and iron profile parameters, and to use bioinformatic prediction and protein modeling tools to assess a possible biological impact for the detected missense variants. Methods Nineteen patients referred with iron treatment refractoriness were studied. Peripheral blood was collected to determine hematic cytometry, iron profile, hemoglobin electrophoresis, and quantification. Molecular screening was carried out for exons 15 through 18 of the TMPRSS6 gene by Sanger sequencing and for frequent thalassemia variants by amplification-refractory mutation system-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and gap-PCR. The biological impact of the detected missense variants was assessed using bioinformatic prediction and protein modeling tools. Results We found 5 genetic variants in the matriptase-2 catalytic domain: 1 at intron-15/exon-16 junction (rs60484081) and 4 exonic, 3 missense (rs377054987, p.Gly626Asp; rs1384127820, p.Ser672Thr; rs855791, p.Val727Ala) and 1 synonymous (rs2235321, p.Tyr730=), with frequencies ranging from 0.18 to 0.53. No significant differences were observed in the hematological parameters or iron profile, considering type and number of variants. Bioinformatic predictions suggested a possible biological impact only for rs377054987. Conclusions The TMPRSS6 variants observed in Mexican patients with oral iron treatment refractoriness have high frequencies; nevertheless, their relationship with hematological and iron profile parameters needs further research. The possible biological impact for rs377054987 is due to size and amino acid hydrophobicity changes and hydrogen bond modifications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This systematic review and reliability generalization meta-analysis synthesized psychometric literature on instrumentation assessing child-to-parent violence published through September 2023 across four databases. In the screening, we identified studies reporting Cronbach's alpha internal consistency estimates for the child-to-parent violence scales. The eligible reliability coefficients ranged from 0.610 to 0.930, mostly exceeding the minimum threshold of 0.700. Random-effects models calculated pooled Cronbach's alphas separately for global, father-specific, and mother-specific subscales. The results demonstrated cumulative values of 0.83 (global: standard error = 0.0129), 0.800 (fathers: standard error = 0.0203), and 0.81 (mothers: standard error = 0.0179), denoting largely adequate reliability. However, significant between-study heterogeneity was observed. While the mean alpha levels seem acceptable for most tools, substantial variability coupled with the possibility of some studies violating reliability assumptions indicates that a conservative interpretation is warranted. Ongoing scale refinement and additional psychometric evaluations will strengthen the rigor methodology in this developing research domain. However, these results should be interpreted with caution, as there is a high level of heterogeneity, and it is possible that some studies have not verified the assumptions underlying Cronbach's alpha. Summary: The aims of our study were to analyse compliance with the 2014 GELTAMO SMZL Guidelines, in patients with splenic marginal zone lymphoma (SMZL), and to evaluate the outcome according to the HPLLs/ABC‐adapted therapeutic strategy. Observational prospective multicenter study of 181 SMZL patients diagnosed between 2014 and 2020. Lymphoma‐specific survival (LSS), composite event‐free survival (CEFS) and response rates were assessed. 57% of the 168 patients included in the analysis followed the Guidelines. The overall response rate was higher in the rituximab chemotherapy and in the rituximab arms compared with the splenectomy arm (p < 0.001). The 5‐year overall survival was 77% and the 5‐year LSS of 93%. There were no differences in the 5‐year LSS according to the treatment received (p = 0.68). The 5‐year CEFS in the overall series was 45%, and there were significant differences between scores A and B (p = 0.036). There were no significant differences when comparing LSS and progression‐free survival in patients treated with rituximab or rituximab chemotherapy at diagnosis or after observation. Our data support HPLLs/ABC score as a practical tool for the management of SMZL, observation as the best approach for patients in group A and rituximab as the best treatment for group B.
