Abstract

Deep eutectic solvents have emerged as a greener alternative and have attracted so much interest in the last two decades. This paper present alternative synthesis method to classical heating-stirring. The ultrasound method is one of the most promising syntheses DESs in terms of yield and energy. So, ultrasound synthesis method was studied to obtain hydrophobic (Aliquat 336: L-Menthol 3:7; Lidocaine: decanoic acid 1:2) and hydrophilic DESs based on Choline chloride and urea, ethylene glycol and oxalic acid. The physical characterization of DESs by comparison of FTIR spectra no show difference between DESs obtained by heating-stirring and ultrasound synthesis methods. The RMN spectra of the DESs obtained by heat-ing-stirring revealed the DESs formation. Density and viscosity properties of DESs were evaluated. The density values are similar for both synthesis methods. However, lower viscosity values are obtained to the hydrophilic DESs prepared by ultrasound methods.

Abstract

In this paper we propose to extend the definition of fuzzy transform in order to consider an interpolation of models that are richer than the standard fuzzy transform. We focus on polynomial models, linear in particular, although the approach can be easily applied to other classes of models. As an example of application, we consider the smoothing of time series in finance. A comparison with moving averages is performed using NIFTY 50 stock market index. Experimental results show that a regression driven fuzzy transform (RDFT) provides a smoothing approximation of time series, similar to moving average, but with a smaller delay. Abstract

The media industry is increasingly personalizing the offering of contents in attempt to better target the audience. This requires to analyze the relationships that goes established between users and content they enjoy, looking at one side to the content characteristics and on the other to the user profile, in order to find the best match between the two. In this paper we suggest to build that relationship using the Dempster-Shafer's Theory of Evidence, proposing a reference model and illustrating its properties by means of a toy example. Abstract

The advancement of technologies and the development of more efficient artificial intelligence (AI) enable the processing of large amounts of data in a very short time. Concurrently, the increase in information within biological databases, such as 3D molecular structures or networks of functional macromolecule associations, will facilitate the creation of new methods for risk assessment that can serve as alternatives to animal testing. Specifically, the predictive capabilities of AI as new approach methodologies (NAMs) are poised to revolutionise risk assessment approaches. Our previous studies on molecular docking predictions, using the software Autodock Vina, indicated high‐affinity binding of certain toxic chemicals to the 3D structures of human proteins associated with nervous and reproductive functions. Similar approaches revealed potential sublethal interactions of neonicotinoids with proteins linked to the bees' immune system. Building on these findings, we plan to develop an AI‐based decision tool that exploits the data available on the toxicity of the most know chemical, such as LD50, and the data obtainable by their interaction with the human proteins to support risk assessment studies for multiple stressors still not characterised. Our focus will be on utilising these new bioinformatics methodologies to develop specific experimental designs that allow for confident and predictable study of the toxic and sublethal effects of pesticides on humans. We will also validate the developed NAMs by integrating existing in vivo information from scientific literature and technical reports. Abstract

Introduction: Diabetic Kidney Disease (DKD) is the main cause of end-stage renal disease in the developed world. The current treatment of the DKD with reninangiotensin system (RAS) blockade does not totally halt the progression to end stage kidney disease. Currently, several drugs have shown to delay DKD progression such as sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) and glucagon-like-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA). We hypothesized that by combining several drugs that prevent DKD progression on top of RAS blockade a synergistic effect would be achieved in terms of cardiorenal protection. In the present study, we analysed if the combination of a RAS blocker (ramipril) with a SGLT2i (empagliflozin) and/or GLP-1RA (semaglutide) in a type 2 diabetic mouse model could have add-on effects in kidney and heart protection. Methods: Male and female uninephrectomized type 2 diabetic db/db mice were treated with empagliflozin and/or semaglutide on top of ramipril during 8 weeks. During the study body weight, water and food intake were weekly monitored, glycaemia biweekly and albuminuria and glomerular filtration rate (GFR) before and after the treatment. At the end of the experiment, kidney and heart were isolated for histological and gene expression studies as well as for intrarenal RAS state assessment. Results: Semaglutide combined with ramipril and/or empagliflozin significantly decreased albuminuria but only when combined with both compounds, semaglutide further decreased blood glucose, glomerular hyperfiltration in male mice and glomerular mesangial matrix expansion. In kidney, only the triple treatment with empagliflozin, semaglutide and ramipril reduced the expression of the proinflammatory and profibrotic genes ccl2 and TGFß1. In addition, the combination of empagliflozin and semaglutide on top of RAS blockade was superior in decreasing cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and heart fibrosis in db/db mice. Discussion: Our results suggest that the combination of SGLT2i with GLP-1RA is superior in cardiorenal protection in DKD than the drugs administered alone on top of RAS blockade.
