This paper presents a methodology for testing CMOS integrated circuits for latchup susceptibility using transient stimulation. It combines the best features of the current injection, overvoltage, and supply slew rate tests into one efficient testing sequence. Special requirements for device under test (DUT) power supplies used in this application are introduced.

A paired sequential trial was undertaken to establish whether paternal mononuclear cells improved the prognosis in couples with recurrent abortions. For this purpose, 10(7)-10(8) cells obtained from the blood of partners were injected intravenously, subcutaneously, and intra-dermally into women who had had three or more consecutive miscarriages with the same partner. Control women were given normal saline, injected in the same manner. The result of the sequential analysis showed that there was no significant beneficial effect of the cells compared to control. The overall success rate was 70% (32/46 couples). The success rate in patients given cells was 62% (13/21), while in those given saline it was 76% (19/25). While the overall success rate in this study compares with a number of other studies, we find an equally high success rate with non-immunized patients. We conclude that the value of immunization for the prevention of recurrent miscarriage has not been established.

The novel alkali metal peroxide derivatives (CH3) 3COOC(CF3) 2ONa, NaOC(CF3) 2OOC(CF3) 2ONa and CF3C(O) OOC(CF3) 2ONa have been prepared through reactions of hexafluoroacetone, (CF3) 2CO, with the sodium salts of various organic hydroperoxides. These new salts are soluble in water and polar organic solvents and have been used to prepare the new covalent fluorocarbon/hydrocarbon peroxides [(CH3 3COOC(CF3) 2OC(O)C6H5, (CH3) 3SiOC(CF3) 2-OOC(CF3) 2OSi(CH3) 3, and (CH3 3COOC(CF3) 2C(O)CF3] through reaction with compounds having active halogen. Although the new peroxides are apparently less flammable and explosive than their hydrocarbon analogs, they also exhibit shorter half-lives than the parent compound (i.e., the peroxide without hexafluoroacetone insertion).

The new fluorinated peroxides HOC(CF3)2OOH, HOC(CF3 2OOC(CF3) 2OH, and (CH3) 3COOC(CF3) 2OH have been prepared by the insertion of hexafluoroacetone into the OH bonds of hydrogen peroxide and t-butyl hydroperoxide. In addition, the alkali metal salts (HOC(CF3) 2OOM (M=Li or Na) and (CH3) 3COOC(CF3) 2ONa have been prepared by neutralization of the corresponding protonic compound with the appropriate metal hydride. The new compounds are safer (i.e., less flammable and less explosive) than analogous or similar hydrocarbon peroxides, though they are somewhat less thermally stable than the parent hydroperoxides.

The infrared spectrum of CF2NCl has been measured from 4000 to 260 cm−1. Seven of nine fundamental frequencies were observed with the remaining two estimated from combination frequencies. Assignments, based upon Cs molecular symmetry, for the nine fundamental vibrations of CF2NCl are as follows: v1(a') = 1728; v2(a') = 1322; v3(a') = 981; v4(a') = 771 v5(a') = 598; v6(a') = 465; v7(a') = 175; v8(a') = 658 and v9(a') = 240cm−1. Two frequencies, v7, and v9, were estimated from combination band data.

Multiturn injection techniques employed in the MURA 50‐MeV electron accelerator are described, together with an evaluation of their performance. These include shifting of the equilibrium orbit by a time‐varying bump, damping of betatron oscillation amplitudes by an rf voltage, and damping of amplitudes by space‐charge effects. Multiturn injection is achieved by filling the accelerator radial phase space with injected beam. The capture of injected charge approaches 100% when the programmed field bump is used. This high efficiency has been achieved for about 15 turns of total beam from the inflector and for about 40 turns of collimated beam. Injection at the higher beam intensities gives rise to spontaneous longitudinal bunching of the circulating beam for all energies from injection to above transition with the magnitude generally greatest just above transition.

The use of digital computational techniques in the design of a 200-Mev standing-wave proton linear accelerator for use as an injector for a 12.5 Bev FFAG accelerator is described. A field computational program that permitted evaluation (optimization) of the r-f structure cost for a given accelerator design is described, and typical results are shown. Improvements in the Fermilab operating 400-MeV linear accelerator injector are required to achieve the beam intensity and emittance requirement of the Proton Driver design study. It has been determined that these requirements can be achieved by replacing the components in the linac below 10 MeV. An improved H/sup -/ ion source with an electrostatic transport to a two-section radio-frequency quadrupole (RFQ) accelerator, with the RFQ sections separated by a magnetic five-dimensional phase-space imaging system as used in an earlier Fermilab/SAIC PET Project, and a new 10-MeV drift-tube linac cavity have been studied. It appears possible that an H/sup -/ intensity of 4.5/spl times/10/sup 13/ ions per pulse with an improvement in beam emittance from the present system can be achieved with the proposed changes.

The differential cross section for proton-proton scattering was measured for 23 center-of-mass angles from 10 deg to 90 deg , with plus or minus 0.8% absolute probable error at angles greater than 14 deg . The incident proton energy was 25.63-Mev lab. The 90 deg cross section is 18.59 millibarns, and the interference minimum of 17.09 mb occurs at 24 deg c.m. A set of phase shifts which fit the data are: /sup 1/S/sub 0/, 49.5 deg ; /sup 3/P/sub 0/, 8.2 deg ; / sup 3/P/sub 1/, --4-2 deg ; /sup 3/P/sub 2/, 2-0 deg ; /sup 1/D/sub 2/, 0.62 deg . (a uth)
