Abstract

We introduce a quadratic gradient type term for the Pucci extremal operators. Our analysis demonstrates that this proposed term extends the classical quadratic gradient term associated with the Laplace equation, and we investigate the impact of the Kazdan-Kramer transformation. As an application, we explore the existence, non-existence, uniqueness, Liouville-type results, and asymptotic behavior of solutions for the new class of Pucci equations under various conditions on both nonlinearity and domains.

Abstract

Our main goal is to investigate supercritical Hardy-Sobolev type inequalities with a logarithmic term and their corresponding variational problem. We prove the existence of extremal functions for the associated variational problem, despite the loss of compactness. As an application, we show the existence of weak solution to a general class of related elliptic partial differential equations with a logarithmic term.

Abstract

In this paper we study conformal solitons for the mean curvature flow in hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^{n+1}$. Working in the upper half-space model, we focus on horo-expanders, which relate to the conformal field $-\partial_0$. We classify cylindrical and rotationally symmetric examples, finding appropriate analogues of grim-reaper cylinders, bowl and winglike solitons. Moreover, we address the Plateau and the Dirichlet problems at infinity. For the latter, we provide the sharp boundary convexity condition to guarantee its solvability, and address the case of noncompact boundaries contained between two parallel hyperplanes of $\partial_{\infty}\mathbb{H}^{n+1}$. We conclude by proving rigidity results for bowl and grim-reaper cylinders.

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a gradient type term for the $k$-Hessian equation that extends for $k>1$ the classical quadratic gradient term associated with the Laplace equation. We prove that such as gradient term is invariant by the Kazdan-Kramer change of variables. As applications, we ensure the existence of solutions for a new class of $k$-Hessian equation in the sublinear and superlinear cases for Sobolev type growth. The threshold for existence is obtained in some particular cases. In addition, for the Trudinger-Moser type growth regime, we also prove the existence of solutions under either subcritical or critical conditions.

Methods We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional facility-based survey between October 2016 and September 2017, involving 500 pregnant women, followed from admission in labor until the end of delivery. Mean (SD) was computed for quantitative variables, while relative and absolute frequencies were determined for categorical variables. Additionally, confidence intervals were estimated. Results Among pregnant women 18.3% were adolescents ([less than or equal to] 19 years) and 14.5% had advanced maternal age ([greater than or equal to] 35 years). Illiteracy was reported by 8.2%. One in three (33.6%) had a short stature (< 1.55 m). Malaria was the most frequent infection during pregnancy (16.3%). Upon admission, 18.1% were anemic (Hb < 11 g/dl) and 36.0% had hypertension (SBP [greater than or equal to] 140 mmHg and/or DBP [greater than or equal to] 90 mmHg), contrasting with the few cases reported of chronic hypertension and pregnancy-induced hypertension. There were 15 twin pregnancies. Cesarean section was performed in 25.2% of the women, although there was no medical indication for 23.0% of women having cesareans. Two maternal deaths occurred in our sample. Among live births from singleton pregnancies (97.1%), birth asphyxia (Apgar < 7 at 5 min) was observed in 22.7% and 10.3% had low birth weight (< 2.5 kg). Conclusions There are very few studies reporting pregnancy outcomes in Angola. This analysis presents data from Huíla province, the second most populous province. We identified characteristics for higher risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes: adolescence, illiteracy, and short stature. Among newborn outcomes, birth asphyxia and low birth weight demand special attention. Further research is needed to explore the non-medical indications for cesarean section and to better understand the twinning rate in Lubango.

Abstract

Our main purpose in this paper is to establish the existence and nonexistence of extremal functions for sharp inequality of Adimurthi-Druet type for fractional dimensions on the entire space. Precisely, we extend the sharp Trudinger-Moser type inequality in (Calc.Var.Partial Differential Equations, \textbf{52} (2015) 125-163) for the entire space. In addition, we perform the two-step strategy of Carleson-Chang together blow up analysis method to ensure the existence of maximizers for the associated extremal problems for both subcritical and critical regimes. We also present a nonexistence result under subcritical regime for some special cases.

Abstract

We establish critical and subcritical sharp Trudinger-Moser inequalities for fractional dimensions on the whole space. Moreover, we obtain asymptotic lower and upper bounds for the fractional subcritical Trudinger-Moser supremum from which we can prove the equivalence between critical and subcritical inequalities. Using this equivalence, we prove the existence of maximizers for both the subcritical and critical associated extremal problems. As a by-product of this development, we can explicitly calculate the value of the critical supremum in some special situations.

Abstract

This paper is mainly concerned with the existence of extremals for the Adams inequality. We first establish an upper bound for the classical Adams functional along of all concentrated sequences in $W^{m,\frac{n}{m}}_{\mathcal{N}}(\Omega)$, in particular in $W^{m,\frac{n}{m}}_{0}(\Omega)$, where $\Omega$ is a smooth bounded domain in Euclidean $n$-space. Secondly, based on the Concentration-compactness alternative due to Do \'{O} and Macedo, we prove the existence of extremals for the Adams inequality under Navier boundary conditions for second order derivatives at least for higher dimensions when $\Omega$ is an Euclidean ball.
