Context: With the high prevalence of anterior cruciate ligament rupture among young and active individuals, rehabilitation after the injury and surgery should meet the current evidence-based recommendations to restore knee function and reduce the risk of further injury. This study aimed to investigate the current rehabilitation practices and return to sports (RTS) criteria after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) among physical therapists in Saudi Arabia. Design: Online cross-sectional survey-based study. Methods: A total of 177 physical therapists in Saudi Arabia participated in this survey. The survey included questions about the preferred postoperative timing and frequency of rehabilitation, current views on the importance of preoperative and postoperative rehabilitation to the overall outcomes, the timeframe of RTS, and the decision-making process to RTS. Results: Most therapists (96.6%) believed preoperative rehabilitation was essential/important to postoperative outcomes. Two-thirds encouraged patients to start rehabilitation program within 1 to 4 days immediately post-ACLR. RTS was permitted 6 to 9 months post-ACLR by 60% of therapists if satisfied with patient progress and capacity. Factors considered before RTS included knee strength (72.9%), functional capacity (86.4%), lower limb and trunk mechanics (62.7%), and psychological readiness (42.2%). Knee strength was assessed by manual muscle testing (39%), handheld dynamometry (15.3%), and isokinetic dynamometer (13.6%). While 60% of the therapists used single-limbed hop for distance for evaluating functional capacity, only 27.1% used a hop test battery. Conclusions: The surveyed physical therapists in Saudi Arabia demonstrated variations in the current rehabilitation practices and RTS criteria post-ACLR. Over half of the surveyed therapists considered preoperative rehabilitation essential to postoperative outcomes. However, the therapists should update their perspective with current evidence-based practice regarding the RTS timeframe, psychological readiness assessment for RTS, and knee strength evaluation using objective measurements. In this review, we elaborate on how musculoskeletal (MSK) modeling combined with dynamic movement simulation is gradually evolving from a research tool to a promising in silico tool to assist medical doctors and physical therapists in decision making by providing parameters relating to dynamic MSK function and loading. This review primarily focuses on our own and related work to illustrate the framework and the interpretation of MSK model-based parameters in patients with 3 different conditions, that is, degenerative joint disease, cerebral palsy, and adult spinal deformities. By selecting these 3 clinical applications, we also aim to demonstrate the differing levels of clinical readiness of the different simulation frameworks introducing in silico model-based biomarkers of motor function to inform MSK rehabilitation and treatment, with the application for adult spinal deformities being the most recent of the 3. Based on these applications, barriers to clinical integration and positioning of these in silico technologies within standard clinical practice are discussed in the light of specific challenges related to model assumptions, required level of complexity and personalization, and clinical implementation. Maxillary sinus augmentation with a lateral approach is known to present more postoperative complications than other atrophic posterior maxilla treatment modalities because it is more invasive. These complications include infections that occur in the form of chronic or acute sinusitis. According to the literature, the frequency of these complications ranges from 3% to 5%. They can result from an inadequate management of intraoperative complications or from a poor evaluation of maxillary sinus particularities and pathology before the surgery. Therefore, the prevention of postoperative complications lies in the selection of cases that will allow for the identification and evaluation of infectious risk. Only a multidisciplinary approach that includes an implantologist, a rhinologist, and the treating physician will allow this. On the other hand, in infectious complication cases, the intervention of the otorhinolaryngologist (ENT) specialist is necessary. Based on the available literature and the author's experience, the methodology described in this article will allow for the prevention and management of postoperative complications related to this surgical technique. Inertial sensors may help clinicians to assess patients' movement and potentially support clinical decision making. Our aim was to determine whether shoulder range of motion during movement tasks measured using inertial sensors is capable of accurately discriminating between patients with different shoulder problems. Inertial sensors were used to measure 3-dimensional shoulder motion during 6 tasks of 37 patients on the waiting list for shoulder surgery. Discriminant function analysis was used to identify whether the range of motion of different tasks could classify patients with different shoulder problems. The discriminant function analysis could correctly classify 91.9% of patients into one of the 3 diagnostic groups based. The tasks that associated a patient with a particular diagnostic group were the following: subacromial decompression: abduction, rotator cuff repair of tears ≤5 cm: flexion and rotator cuff repair of tears >5 cm: combing hair, abduction, and horizontal abduction–adduction. The discriminant function analysis showed that range of motion measured by inertial sensors can correctly classify patients and could be used as a screening tool to support surgery planning. Gastrostomy feeding is a route of enteral nutrition for children with feeding difficulties. This study investigated caregiver experiences of the transition to gastrostomy feeding. A survey was administered to caregivers of children <18 years in a major pediatric center in Ireland. Experiences of decision-making, support, and adjusting to tube feeding were examined. Seventy-six caregivers participated. Median satisfaction with the information provided by the hospital was high. Almost half (48%) spoke to another caregiver of a child with a gastrostomy prior to their own child's gastrostomy insertion and most (88%) felt reassured by this. Concerns following insertion included managing the tube and their child's oral intake and feelings about the tube. The oral intake of 83% of children who had some intake prior to gastrostomy insertion did not change or increased following insertion. Most (89%) would make the same decision to insert the tube. Feelings associated with the transition included relief and stress. Gastrostomy tube insertion presents logistical and psychosocial challenges for caregivers. Introduction: Digital healthcare, especially virtual health, has changed nurses' jobs and skills. In the evolving healthcare landscape, nurses healthcare landscape is increasingly required to have diverse competencies to navigate the world of virtual health effectively. Objective: This study aims to qualitatively explore the role of nurses in virtual health and the competencies required to work in virtual health in Saudi Arabia, with a specific focus on SEHA virtual hospital. Methods: An online open survey with nursing experts was employed as the qualitative method approach during the initial phase of an online Delphi study design. Results: Twelve core competencies were identified: digital technology proficiency, professionalism, clinical expertise, leadership, legal and ethical considerations, care coordination, documentation, effective communication, patient assessment and diagnosis, patient safety, patient-centered care, and remote patient monitoring. Conclusions: The research emphasizes the crucial role of nurses in virtual hospitals and clinics, contributing to the expansion of the virtual healthcare environment. It presents a thorough competency framework that can guide the development of training programs and policies, enhancing the effectiveness of virtual healthcare delivery. Impact: The study provides a foundational competencies list that can guide the development of comprehensive training programs for nurses in virtual healthcare. Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is a safe, noninvasive technique performed at the patient's bedside, providing immediate results to the operator. It complements physical examination and facilitates clinical decision-making. In infectious diseases, POCUS is particularly valuable, offering an initial assessment in cases of suspected infection. It often leads to an early tentative diagnosis enabling the prompt initiation of antimicrobial treatment without the delay associated with traditional radiology. POCUS provides direct visualization of affected organs, assists in evaluating fluid balance, and facilitates various interventions, all while reducing patient discomfort. Background: To address the declining numbers of general practitioners (GPs) in rural areas and a lack of medical students pursuing a career in primary care, a general practice-based curriculum coupled with additional university admissions for students has been established at three universities in Hesse, Germany. This study aims to analyze potential topics which students striving to become a GP will benefit from. Teaching such topics will prepare them for their chosen career and working in rural areas. We aimed to explore the views of both specialists and GPs on chief topics and necessary skills in primary care. Methods: In our study we used semi-structured interviews with outpatient specialists and specialists in clinical practice and semi-structured group interviews with GPs in training. The topic guide addressed contents of the curriculum for medical students with an extracurricular focus (addressing additional topics) on primary care. Data analysis was carried out using qualitative content analysis according to Mayring. Results: GPs in training and specialists agreed on the importance of knowledge in the fields of medical history, physical examination, communication as well as common diseases in primary care. Essential competences mentioned were: inducing medical treatment, decision-making and triage, conducting structured conversations, having patient knowledge (hard skills) as well as an interest in continuous learning, empathy, personal commitment, listening and down-to-earthness (soft skills). Case reports, symptom-based learning, practical training, lessons with simulated patients and the integration of role models were regarded as useful teaching methods. Conclusions: General practice-based curriculums should not only focus on the transfer of knowledge. Equally important is the training of soft and hard skills to prepare future GPs for their work in primary care. Purpose: To provide pragmatic guidance for acute rehabilitation management and implementation of early mobility for individuals with critical illness due to COVID-19. Methods: Clinical perspective developed through reflective clinical practice and narrative review of best available evidence. Results: Current clinical practice guidelines do not provide guidance for implementation of early mobility interventions for individuals with critical illness due to COVID-19 who require enhanced ventilatory support or support of inhaled pulmonary artery vasodilators. Many individuals who may benefit from implementation of early mobility interventions are excluded by strict interpretation of current guidelines. Conclusions: Risk vs benefit of implementing early mobility interventions in individuals with critical illness due to COVID-19 can be mitigated through coordinated efforts of interdisciplinary teams to promote shared decision-making through therapeutic alliances with patients and their families. Clinicians must clearly define the goals of care, understand the limitations of monitoring equipment in the intensive care unit, prepare to titrate levels of oxygen based on an individual's physiologic response to mobility interventions, and help individuals maintain external goal-directed focus of attention to optimize outcomes of early mobility interventions. Background: Withholding or withdrawing life-sustaining treatment in end-of-life patients is a challenging ethical issue faced by physicians. Understanding physicians' experiences and factors influencing their decisions can lead to improvement in end-of-life care. Objectives: To investigate the experiences of Thai physicians when making decisions regarding the withholding or withdrawal of life-sustaining treatments in end-of-life situations. Additionally, the study aims to assess the consensus among physicians regarding the factors that influence these decisions and to explore the influence of families or surrogates on the decision-making process of physicians, utilizing case-based surveys. Methods: A web-based survey was conducted among physicians practicing in Chiang Mai University Hospital (June - October 2022). Results: Among 251 physicians (response rate 38.3%), most of the respondents (60.6%) reported that they experienced withholding or withdrawal treatment in end-of-life patients. Factors that influence their decision-making include patient's preferences (100%), prognosis (93.4%), patients' quality of life (92.8%), treatment burden (89.5%), and families' request (87.5%). For a chronic disease with comatose condition, the majority of the physicians (47%) chose to continue treatments, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). In contrast, only 2 physicians (0.8%) would do everything, in cases when families or surrogates insisted on stopping the treatment. This increased to 78.1% if the families insisted on continuing treatment. Conclusion: Withholding and withdrawal of life-sustaining treatments are common in Thailand. The key factors influencing their decision-making process included patient's preferences and medical conditions and families' requests. Effective communication and early engagement in advanced care planning between physicians, patients, and families empower them to align treatment choices with personal values. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: To review the content, format and effectiveness of shared decision‐making interventions for mode of delivery after caesarean section for pregnant women. Design: Systematic review and meta‐analysis. Methods: Six databases (PubMed, Web of science Core Collection, Cochrance Network, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO) were searched starting at the time of establishment of the database to May 2023. Following the PRISMAs and use Review Manager 5.3 software for meta‐analysis. Two review authors independently assessed the quality of the studies using the risk of bias 2 tool. The protocol was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42023410536). Results: The search strategy obtained 1675 references. After abstract and full text screening, a total of seven studies were included. Shared decision‐making interventions include decision aids and counselling that can help pregnant women analyse the pros and cons of various options and help them make decisions that are consistent with their values. The pooled results showed that shared decision‐making intervention alleviated decisional conflicts regarding mode of delivery after caesarean section, but had no effect on knowledge and informed choice. Conclusion: The results of our review suggest that shared decision‐making is an effective intervention to improve the quality of decision‐making about the mode of delivery of pregnant women after caesarean section. However, due to the low quality of the evidence, it is recommended that more studies be conducted in the future to improve the quality of the evidence. Correlation with Clinical Practice: This systematic review and meta‐analysis provides evidence for the effectiveness of shared decision‐making for mode of delivery after cesarean section and may provide a basis for the development of intervention to promote the participation of pregnant women in the decision‐making process. Aim: Ascertain the impact of mandated use of early warning systems (EWSs) on the development of registered nurses' higher‐order thinking. Design: A systematic literature review was conducted, following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and checklist (Page et al., 2021). Data Sources: CINAHL, Medline, Embase, PyscInfo. Review Methods: Eligible articles were quality appraised using the MMAT tool. Data extraction was conducted independently by four reviewers. Three investigators thematically analysed the data. Results: Our review found that EWSs can support or suppress the development of nurses' higher‐order thinking. EWS supports the development of higher‐order thinking in two ways; by confirming nurses' subjective clinical assessment of patients and/or by providing a rationale for the escalation of care. Of note, more experienced nurses expressed their view that junior nurses are inhibited from developing effective higher‐order thinking due to reliance on the tool. Conclusion: EWSs facilitate early identification of clinical deterioration in hospitalised patients. The impact of EWSs on the development of nurses' higher‐order thinking is under‐explored. We found that EWSs can support and suppress nurses' higher‐order thinking. EWS as a supportive factor reinforces the development of nurses' heuristics, the mental shortcuts experienced clinicians call on when interpreting their subjective clinical assessment of patients. Conversely, EWS as a suppressive factor inhibits the development of nurses' higher‐order thinking and heuristics, restricting the development of muscle memory regarding similar presentations they may encounter in the future. Clinicians' ability to refine and expand on their catalogue of heuristics is important as it endorses the future provision of safe and effective care for patients who present with similar physiological signs and symptoms. Impact: This research impacts health services and education providers as EWS and nurses' development of higher‐order thinking skills are essential aspects of delivering safe, quality care. Aim: To develop and internally validate risk prediction models for subsequent clinical deterioration, unplanned ICU admission and death among ward patients following medical emergency team (MET) review. Design: A retrospective cohort study of 1500 patients who remained on a general ward following MET review at an Australian quaternary hospital. Method: Logistic regression was used to model (1) subsequent MET review within 48 h, (2) unplanned ICU admission within 48 h and (3) hospital mortality. Models included demographic, clinical and illness severity variables. Model performance was evaluated using discrimination and calibration with optimism‐corrected bootstrapped estimates. Findings are reported using the TRIPOD guideline for multivariable prediction models for prognosis or diagnosis. There was no patient or public involvement in the development and conduct of this study. Results: Within 48 h of index MET review, 8.3% (n = 125) of patients had a subsequent MET review, 7.2% (n = 108) had an unplanned ICU admission and in‐hospital mortality was 16% (n = 240). From clinically preselected predictors, models retained age, sex, comorbidity, resuscitation limitation, acuity‐dependency profile, MET activation triggers and whether the patient was within 24 h of hospital admission, ICU discharge or surgery. Models for subsequent MET review, unplanned ICU admission, and death had adequate accuracy in development and bootstrapped validation samples. Conclusion: Patients requiring MET review demonstrate complex clinical characteristics and the majority remain on the ward after review for deterioration. A risk score could be used to identify patients at risk of poor outcomes after MET review and support general ward clinical decision‐making. Relevance to clinical practice: Our risk calculator estimates risk for patient outcomes following MET review using clinical data available at the bedside. Background: EU workers exposed to hand-arm vibration should be offered health surveillance to detect early symptoms, and findings, of Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS). To execute the mandatory vocational rehabilitation, the employer needs to be aware of injuries found in the medical check-up. We aimed to analyse: 1) How physicians graded the neurosensory component of HAVS on the Stockholm Workshop Scale (SWS), compared to semi-objective findings. 2) What vocational rehabilitative decisions (VRD) were taken by physicians after examinations. 3) Whether the VRDs differed in relation to the SWS-grading. Methods: Data came from 660 medical records - all examinations performed during twelve consecutive months in one large Swedish occupational healthcare company. 572 individuals had data on the SWS from the physician. For the qualitative analysis, we used the inductive-iterative immersion-crystallization method. Results: 60% of the examined workers had symptoms and 32% had semi-objective findings consistent with HAVS. The physicians' SWS gradings were underestimated in 59% of the cases with semi-objective findings. The VRDs were classified, relative to communication with the employer, as: "Adequate" (57%), when no injury was present, communication had already taken place, was planned, or was no longer needed in the absence of further exposure, "Semi-adequate" (18%), if no plan for communication was yet established or only communicated through a document with a shorter time until next check-up, and "Inadequate"(25%), when patients refused (20%), or physicians failed to communicate with the employer, despite findings (80%). Underestimated SWS-gradings of HAVS were significantly associated with more "Inadequate" VRDs in the group with semi-objective findings. Conclusions: Occupational physicians underestimate the number of individuals with SWS 2–3 compared with semi-objective findings and regularly fail to communicate to the employer despite findings of HAVS. The underestimation of SWS-grading, followed by inadequate VRDs, excludes many workers from the employer's mandatory protective measures which may lead to aggravation of an untreatable injury in the affected individual and development of HAVS in their similarly exposed colleagues. Background: Patient-centered care aims to prevent disease and promote well-being by actively involving patients in treatment and decision-making that is based on respecting the patients and their families. However, no scales have been developed to assess patient-centered care from the nurse's perspective. This study aimed to develop a scale to measure nurses' level of patient-centered communication and confirm its validity and reliability. Methods: A methodological cross-sectional study was adopted to develop and validate the Patient-Centered Communication Scale (PCCS). The items were developed through a literature review and online interviews with nurses. Content validity was assessed by experts and the content validity index was calculated. A pretest of the questionnaire was conducted with 10 clinical nurses. To evaluate the factor structure and internal consistency reliability, the PCCS was administered online to 325 nurses in South Korea. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, explanatory factor analysis (EFA), and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Results: The final instrument consisted of 12 items and three factors: (1) information sharing, (2) patient-as-person, and (3) therapeutic alliance. EFA revealed a distinct three-factor structure, explaining 59.0% of the total variance. CFA confirmed the adequacy of the model fit and validated the inclusion of the final items. The Cronbach's alpha values ranged from 0.60 to 0.77, indicating acceptable internal consistency. Convergent validity was evidenced by the correlation between the PCCS and a measure of interpersonal communication competence. Conclusions: The 12-item PCCS showed good reliability, construct validity, and convergent validity. The scale has utility for measuring the level of patient-centered communication skills in nurses. Background: Decision fatigue is a new concept in the field of psychology and refers to a state of fatigue alongside impaired cognitive processing and emotional regulation ability. Previous studies have confirmed that nurses are prone to decision fatigue, and nurses who experience decision fatigue may implement nursing measures that are inconsistent with clinical evidence, thus affecting patients' benefits. COVID-19, as a large-scale global public health emergency, increased the workload and burden of nurses and aggravated decision fatigue. However, the factors leading to decision fatigue among nurses have not yet been identified. Methods: This study is guided by interpretative phenomenology. During the epidemic period of COVID-19: From November 2022 to February 2023, a one-to-one, semi-structured in-depth interview was conducted among nurses with decision fatigue experience who were participating in front-line work in Jilin Province using homogenous sampling. The interview recordings and related data were transcribed into text within 24 h, and data analysis was assisted by NVivo 12.0 software. Results: After a total of 14 front-line nurses were analyzed in this study, The thematic level reaches saturation, the findings present a persuasive and coherent narrative, and the study is terminated, and finally extracted and formed three core themes: "Cognition, influence and attitude of decision fatigue", "Approaching factors of decision fatigue" and "Avoidant factors of decision fatigue". Conclusion: This study confirmed that decision fatigue was widespread in the work of front-line nurses, affecting the physical and psychological health of nurses, the quality of nursing work, the degree of benefit of patients and the clinical outcome. However, nursing staff do not know enough about decision fatigue, so the popularization and research of decision fatigue should be strengthened. Improve the attention of medical institutions, nursing managers and nursing staff.Some suggestions are put forward for the intervention of decision fatigue through personnel, task, tool and technology, organization and environment. Introduction: There remains an unmet need to reduce kidney and cardiovascular risk in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). This report is therefore intended to provide real-world clinical guidance to primary care providers on sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor use in patients with CKD, focusing on practical considerations. Initially developed as glucose-lowering drugs, SGLT2 inhibitors preserve kidney function and reduce risks of cardiovascular events and mortality. Clinical benefits of SGLT2 inhibitors in CKD have been demonstrated in multiple clinical trials, yet utilization in practice remains relatively low, likely due to the complexity of labeled indications (past and present) and misconceptions about SGLT2 inhibitors as a class. Methods: A panel of 8 US-based nephrologists convened in August 2022 to develop consensus guidance for the primary care community surrounding risk assessment as well as initiation and implementation of SGLT2 inhibitors in patients with CKD. Here, we provide an adapted version of the Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) heatmap and a treatment-decision algorithm. Conclusions: We advocate SGLT2 inhibitors as co-first-line therapy with renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) inhibitors, where RAAS inhibitor dose titration need not be completed before initiation of an SGLT2 inhibitor. In fact, SGLT2 inhibitor therapy may facilitate up-titration or maintenance of optimal RAAS inhibitor dosing. We describe potential strategies to aid implementation of an SGLT2 inhibitor in clinical practice, including improving education and awareness among care providers and patients and dispelling misconceptions about the safety of SGLT2 inhibitors. Background: In recent decades, there has been a growing emphasis on involving patients in healthcare decision-making, driven by political, ethical, and research considerations. Although patient involvement is associated with improved health outcomes, understanding patient preferences regarding their role in decision-making is crucial for effective interventions. The Control Preferences Scale (CPS) measures patient preferences along a continuum from passive to active participation. However, its application in Denmark necessitates translation and cultural adaptation. Methodology: This study aimed to translate and culturally adapt the CPS for Danish use across diverse healthcare settings: acute care, cancer care, elective surgery, chronic medical treatment, and parental involvement in pediatric care. Following a cross-sectional design, the translation process was systematically planned and executed using Beaton's guidelines, including the five stages: forward and back translation, synthesis, expert review, and pre-testing. Results: The translation and adaption process was carried out successfully. Few linguistic challenges were identified and resolved by the expert review. The findings of the pre-testing indicated high acceptability and usability of the adapted CPS among 152 Danish patients and parents. The collaborative role emerged as the most preferred across settings (69.8%), with passive roles more prevalent among cancer patients (30%) and parents waiting with their child to see a pediatrician (23.3%). Notable, more women preferred collaborative or active roles (83.9%) than men (73.9%). The content validity assessment yielded positive feedback, affirming the relevance and comprehensiveness of the CPS. Background: Obesity (body mass index ≥ 30 kg/m2) is a major risk factor for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and affects most patients with HFpEF. Patients living with obesity may experience delays in HFpEF diagnosis and management. We aimed to understand the clinical journey of patients with obesity and HFpEF and the role of primary care providers (PCPs) in diagnosing and managing patients with both conditions. Methods: An anonymous, US population-based online survey was conducted in September 2020 among 114 patients with self-reported HFpEF and obesity and 200 healthcare providers, 61 of whom were PCPs who treat patients with HFpEF and obesity. Results: Half of patients (51%) with HFpEF reported waiting an average of 11 months to discuss their symptoms with a PCP; 11% then received their diagnosis from a PCP. PCPs initiated treatment and oversaw the management of HFpEF only 35% of the time, and 44% of PCPs discussed obesity treatment medication options with their patients. Only 20% of PCPs indicated they had received formal obesity management training, and 79% of PCPs indicated they would be interested in obesity management training and support. Conclusion: PCPs could play a valuable role in addressing obesity and referring patients with obesity and signs and symptoms of HFpEF to cardiologists. Increased awareness of HFpEF and its link to obesity may help PCPs more quickly identify and diagnose their patients with these conditions. We wanted to understand the medical experience of patients with HFpEF and obesity and the role that primary care providers (PCPs) play in managing patients with these diseases. We surveyed 114 patients with HFpEF and obesity and 200 healthcare providers who treat patients with HFpEF and obesity, 61 of whom were PCPs. Background: Patient safety (PS) is a core competency for registered nurses. However, there is a gap between the PS competence of nursing students and their clinical experience in PS. This study explored the effect of PS competence levels on the occurrence of adverse events (AEs) among nursing master's students in China. Methods: A sequential mixed methods design was used, with a purposive sample across seven colleges. A total of 327 graduate nursing students, aged 22 to 38, participated in the survey, and 15 participated in qualitative interviews. The Health Professional Education in Patient Safety Survey (H-PEPSS) assessed the students' competence levels in PS. The respondents also reported any AEs that they had been involved in over the past year. Results: A total of 78 AEs occurred in the past year, with 17.7% of the participants involved 1 to 3 AEs. The most common AEs were medication administration errors (30.77%) and improper use of medical equipment/supplies (28.20%). Students acquired more competencies from the clinical setting than from the classroom setting. Three competencies learned from classroom settings were associated with clinical AEs: low clinical safety skills [OR = 0.61], inappropriate identify, response to and disclosing AE and close calls [OR = 0.454], and low confidence in working in teams with other health professionals [OR = 2.168]. Qualitative data analysis revealed five themes: recognizing AEs, reducing harm by addressing immediate risks to patients and others involved, promoting safe medication and clinical practice, managing members' authority and team dynamics, and dealing with inter-professional conflict. Background: In the US, 1.2 million people live with HIV (PWH). Despite having near-normal life expectancies due to antiretroviral therapy (ART), many PWH seek an HIV cure, even if it means risking their lives. This willingness to take risks for a cure raises questions about "affective forecasting biases," where people tend to overestimate the positive impact of future events on their well-being. We conducted a study to test two interventions to mitigate affective forecasting in the decisions of PWH about taking HIV cure medication. Methods: We recruited PWH to complete a 30-minute survey about their current quality of life (QoL) and the QoL they anticipate after being cured of HIV, and assigned them to either no additional intervention, to one of two interventions intended to reduce affective forecasting bias, or to both interventions: (1) a defocusing intervention designed to broaden the number of life domains people consider when imagining life changes associated with new circumstances (e.g. HIV cure); and (2) an adaptation intervention to help them gauge fading of strong emotions over time. The study design included a 2 × 2 design: defocusing (yes/no) x adaptation (yes/no) intervention. We assessed PWH's willingness to take hypothetical HIV sterilizing cure medication using the Time Trade-Off (TTO) and their quality of life predictions with WHOQOL-HIV. Results: 296 PWH participated. Counter to what we had hypothesized, neither intervention significantly reduced PWH's willingness to trade time for a cure. Instead, the defocusing intervention increased their willingness to trade time (IRR 1.77, p = 0.03). Exploratory analysis revealed that PWH with lower current quality of life who received the defocusing intervention were more willing to trade time for a cure. Conclusion: These negative findings suggest that either these biases are difficult to overcome in the settings of HIV curative medication or other factors beyond affective forecasting biases influence willingness to participate in HIV curative studies, such as respondents' current quality of life. Introduction: Emotional intelligence is a crucial factor in managing stress and maintaining overall well-being. Emotions are essential for clinical care quality, as they drive clinical decision making. Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between emotional intelligence and clinical decision making among fourth-year nursing students. Methods: The study was a cross-sectional study done on a convenience sample of 225 fourth-year nursing students. Data collection was performed by the "Schutte Self Report Emotional Intelligence Test" (SSEIT) and the "clinical decision making scale". Results: The analysis revealed that the emotional intelligence mean was 151.3 ± 1.9 (ranging from 33 to 165), which is high. The analysis indicated that the clinical decision making of the participants was high (177.1.3 ± 9.8) (ranging from 40 to 200). Also, the analysis showed that there was a strong positive relationship between nursing students' emotional intelligence and clinical decision making (r =.70, p = 0.001). Furthermore, the findings revealed that emotional intelligence was a predictor of clinical decision making. Conclusion: The emotional intelligence and clinical decision making among fourth-year nursing students were high. Importance: Concordance between physician orders for life-sustaining treatment (POLST) preferences and treatment at end-of-life is an important outcome measure of providing patient-centered care. Objectives: We determine whether the COVID pandemic affected clinician ability to provide goal concordant care and replicate our previous report on care concordance and change in patient preferences over time with a larger sample size. We also investigate the quality of POLST completion to determine the number of documents completed with an advance care planning (ACP) conversation or a decision maker present. Methods: Chart abstraction via structured questionnaire of 796 randomly selected patients who died in 2020 with a POLST on file. Results: We found 99% concordance in the last setting of death between a patient's POLST preferences and the care they received. We confirm our previous finding that patients' wishes shift towards a preference for lower treatment intensity at end-of-life. We found that 82% of POLSTs were created in the context of an ACP conversation, 77% with a decision maker present. Conclusion: High levels of goal concordant care were maintained during the pandemic. Background: As a person nears the end of their life, culture and ethnicity increasingly drive preferences and priorities for care. Understanding these preferences and priorities is fundamental to health care professionals' goals to respect decision making and support the individual throughout this phase of life. Across Africa, several countries are in the initial stages of implementing palliative care services in their burgeoning health care systems. Moving forward, it is imperative to consider cultural similarities and differences when compared with the Western world, where the field of palliative care evolved, to create a tailored palliative care approach that is consistent with African culture. In palliative care, understanding cultural preferences and priorities requires communication between the patient and the provider and is a crucial step toward a successful implementation in Africa. A paternalistic patient–provider relationship is the current leading model in sub-Saharan Africa.1 Aim: This narrative review explores the prevalence of paternalism and explores its appropriateness and necessity in the current application of palliative care in sub-Saharan African countries. Methods: This narrative review was conducted using four databases as well as hand searching of relevant articles sourced from references of already selected articles. A total of 730 articles were identified. Fourteen articles met the inclusion/exclusion criteria set for this narrative review. Results: In sub-Saharan Africa, the leading patient–provider relationship was determined to be paternalistic. Reasons for this were language, education, cultural norms and expectations, lack of time, and benevolence. Conclusions: The implementation of palliative care often relies on communication of patient desires and goals. Making return-to-sport decisions can be complex and multi-faceted, as it requires an evaluation of an individual's physical, psychological, and social well-being. Specifically, the timing of progression, regression, or return to sport can be difficult to determine due to the multitude of information that needs to be considered by clinicians. With the advent of new sports technology, the increasing volume of data poses a challenge to clinicians in effectively processing and utilising it to enhance the quality of their decisions. To gain a deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying human decision making and associated biases, this narrative review provides a brief overview of different decision-making models that are relevant to sports rehabilitation settings. Accordingly, decisions can be made intuitively, analytically, and/or with heuristics. This narrative review demonstrates how the decision-making models can be applied in the context of return-to-sport decisions and shed light on strategies that may help clinicians improve decision quality. The Finnish web-based Meds75+ database supports rational, safe and appropriate prescribing to older adults in primary care. This article describes the content and updating process of Meds75+ and demonstrates its applicability in everyday clinical practice. Meds75+ contains a classification (A–D) and recommendation texts for 450–500 drug substances when used in the treatment of older adults aged 75 years or older. The content of Meds75+ is continually updated. Each assessment of a drug substance begins with a structured collection of available information and research evidence. After that, an interdisciplinary expert panel discusses the classification and recommendation using a consensus method. A rolling 3-year updating cycle guarantees that all drug substances are reviewed regularly. Most drug substances are classified as class A (41%) (suitable, e.g. bisoprolol) or as class C (37%) (suitable with specific precautions, e.g. ibuprofen). One-fifth (20%) of the substances are in class D (avoid use, e.g. diazepam). Most commonly, older adults have purchased substances affecting the alimentary tract and metabolism (17%), the nervous system (16%) and the cardiovascular system (15%). In Finland, the proportion of older adults using class D substances (37%) has not changed between the years 2019 and 2022. Meds75+ has potential to support safer and more effective use of medications for older adults, since it offers up-to-date information on drug substances for healthcare professionals. The decision to perform amputation of a limb in a patient with diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is not an easy task. Prediction models aim to help the surgeon in decision making scenarios. Currently there are no prediction model to determine lower limb amputation during the first 30 days of hospitalization for patients with DFU. Classification And Regression Tree analysis was applied on data from a retrospective cohort of patients hospitalized for the management of diabetic foot ulcer, using an existing database from two Orthopaedics and Traumatology departments. The secondary analysis identified independent variables that can predict lower limb amputation (mayor or minor) during the first 30 days of hospitalization. Of the 573 patients in the database, 290 feet underwent a lower limb amputation during the first 30 days of hospitalization. Six different models were developed using a loss matrix to evaluate the error of not detecting false negatives. The selected tree produced 13 terminal nodes and after the pruning process, only one division remained in the optimal tree (Sensitivity: 69%, Specificity: 75%, Area Under the Curve: 0.76, Complexity Parameter: 0.01, Error: 0.85). Among the studied variables, the Wagner classification with a cut-off grade of 3 exceeded others in its predicting capacity. Wagner classification was the variable with the best capacity for predicting amputation within 30 days. Infectious state and vascular occlusion described indirectly by this classification reflects the importance of taking quick decisions in those patients with a higher compromise of these two conditions. The compelling evidence that higher RN to resident ratios improve health outcomes in nursing homes underscores the necessity of implementing evidence‐based RN nursing home staffing standards. However, there are other dimensions to RN staffing in nursing homes beyond the numbers or hours per resident day (HPRD) that influence the quality of care. Without attending to a broader focus on nurse staffing, the benefits of increased RN staffing levels will not be achieved. This article outlines how RN HPRD can be maximized by magnifying the RN's scope of practice and attending to how nursing care is organized and delivered in nursing homes using a nursing practice model framework. This framework addresses the accountability of the RN and the RN's role in supporting and facilitating: (1) collective decision‐making among the nursing staff about the care of residents and the work environment, (2) continuity of information among care providers, and (3) ensuring residents have continuity with the care providers assigned to their care. (2) Materials and Methods: A retrospective analysis of 142 PDAC patients from a single academic center was conducted. Patients underwent chemotherapy and next-generation sequencing for molecular profiling. Key oncogenic pathways were identified using the Reactome pathway database. Survival analysis was performed using Kaplan–Meier curves and Cox Proportional Hazards Regression. (3) Results: Patients mainly received FOLFIRINOX (n = 62) or gemcitabine nab-paclitaxel (n = 62) as initial chemotherapy. The median OS was 13.6 months. Longer median OS was noted in patients with NOTCH (15 vs. 12.3 months, p = 0.007) and KIT pathway mutations (21.3 vs. 12.12 months, p = 0.04). Combinatorial pathway analysis indicated potential synergistic effects on survival. In the PFS, PI3K pathway (6.6 vs. 5.7 months, p = 0.03) and KIT pathway (10.3 vs. 6.2 months, p = 0.03) mutations correlated with improved PFS within the gemcitabine nab-paclitaxel subgroup. (4) Conclusions: Molecular profiling could play a role in PDAC for predicting outcomes and responses to therapies like FOLFIRINOX and gemcitabine nab-paclitaxel. Simple Summary: Patients with stage IIB and IIC melanoma are considered to have high-risk localized disease and, in some cases, demonstrate worse recurrence-free and overall survival than patients with stage IIIA and even IIIB disease. The mainstay of treatment for patients with high-risk clinical stage II melanoma is surgical resection of the primary tumor and sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB), which confers accurate pathologic staging and prognostication for further treatment decisions. Building on the success of adjuvant therapy for stage III melanoma, the KEYNOTE-716 and CheckMate 76K trials found improved recurrence-free survival for patients with high-risk stage II melanoma with adjuvant pembrolizumab and nivolumab, respectively, after complete resection with SLNB. Given these findings, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network now recommends discussing adjuvant pembrolizumab or nivolumab with patients with high-risk stage IIB/C melanoma, weighing the risks of recurrence against the risks of treatment-related adverse events when making the decision regarding adjuvant therapy. Melanoma is the fifth most common cancer in the United States and accounts for the majority of all skin cancer-related deaths, making it the most lethal cutaneous malignancy. Systemic adjuvant therapy for stage IIB-IV melanoma is now approved for patients who have undergone surgical resection, given the appreciable risk of recurrence and mortality in this patient population. Despite the lower stage, high-risk stage II melanoma (stage IIB/IIC) can often exhibit an even more aggressive course when compared to stage IIIA/IIIB disease, thus justifying consideration of adjuvant therapy in these patients. In this review, we highlight the current standard of practice for the treatment of stage IIB/C melanoma, with a focus on adjuvant therapies supported by published landmark clinical trials, including anti-PD-1 therapy. Notably, adjuvant therapies approved thus far in this patient population have demonstrated an improvement in recurrence-free survival, while their impact on overall survival is pending. Simple Summary: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is an aggressive cancer of stem cells originating in the bone marrow. Increasing evidence suggests that AML survival and relapse are controlled by genetic alterations, as well as a functional interaction between the tumor and the immune system. In this review, we will discuss the biology of immune evasion in AML and explore the current landscape of immune-based therapies. We argue that a better understanding of the immune microenvironment in AML could help predict responses to immunotherapy and guide decisions for future treatment. Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a complex hematopoietic clonal disorder with limited curative options beyond stem cell transplantation. The success of transplant is intimately linked with the graft versus leukemia effect from the alloreactive donor immune cells including, T and NK cells. The immune system plays a dynamic role in leukemia survival and resistance. Despite our growing understanding of the immune microenvironment, responses to immune-based therapies differ greatly between patients. Herein, we review the biology of immune evasion mechanisms in AML, discuss the current landscape of immunotherapeutic strategies, and discuss the implications of therapeutic targets. This review focuses on T and NK cell-based therapy, including modified and non-modified NK cells, CAR-T and CAR-NK cells, antibodies, and checkpoint blockades. Uncertainty is pervasive throughout healthcare practice. Uncertainty tolerance (i.e. adaptively responding to perceived uncertainty) is considered to benefit practitioner wellbeing, encourage person-centred care, and support judicious healthcare resource utilisation. Accordingly, uncertainty tolerance development is increasingly referenced within training frameworks. Practical approaches to support healthcare learners' uncertainty tolerance development, however, are lacking. Drawing on findings across the literature, and the authors' educational experiences, twelve tips for promoting healthcare learners' uncertainty tolerance were developed. Tips are divided into 1. Introduction: Evidence‐based practice supports clinical decision‐making by using multiple sources of evidence arising from research and practice. Research evidence develops through empirical study while practice evidence arises through clinical experience, client preferences, and the practice context. Although occupational therapists have embraced the paradigm of evidence‐based practice, some studies have identified limits in the availability and use of research, which can lead to reliance on other forms of evidence. This study aimed to understand how Australian occupational therapists use practice evidence, manage potential bias, and enhance trustworthiness. Potential use of a critical appraisal tool for practice evidence was also explored. Methods: A 42‐item questionnaire was developed to address the study aims. It consisted of a 7‐point Likert scale, ordinal and free text questions. Likert scales were collapsed into binary scales and analysed using SPSS. Ordinal data were graphed and free text responses were analysed using manifest content analysis. Results: Most respondents (82%) indicated that practice evidence was an important informant of practice and is used alongside research evidence. Almost all respondents (98%) expressed confusion when reconciling discrepancies between research and practice evidence. There was general acknowledgement that practice evidence is prone to bias (82%), yet 92% were confident in trusting their own practice evidence. Most respondents (74.5%) undertook some measures to appraise practice evidence, and almost all respondents (90%) agreed they would refer to a critical appraisal tool that helped them evaluate practice evidence. Conclusion: Occupational therapists in this study routinely use practice evidence arising from their own experience, client perspectives, and their practice context to inform clinical decision‐making. While they agreed that practice evidence was prone to bias and misinterpretation, they generally trusted their own practice evidence. Introduction: Occupational therapists work with forensic mental health patients in solitary confinement to counter impacts of mental illness and occupational deprivation, to promote well‐being and support transition to less restricted environments. There is little literature describing occupational therapy in this context. This study aimed to explore and describe the work, context and professional reasoning of occupational therapists working in solitary confinement settings within a large forensic mental health service in Victoria, Australia. Methods: A qualitative design used semi‐structured interviews with 11 occupational therapists and reflexive thematic analysis. Findings: Three central organising themes, it's all about risk, the work we do and why we do what we do, provided rich description of the context and work of occupational therapists in solitary confinement settings, including approaches used to engage patients in occupation and how the Model of Human Occupation and recovery principles informed their professional reasoning. Despite the setting restrictions, participants engaged in core elements of the occupational therapy practice process and described creative work that offered patients choice and meaningful occupation. They described occupational enrichment to address occupational deprivation and create opportunities for change within the highly restrictive and risk‐focussed environment of solitary confinement. Assessment was mainly unstructured, and the need for better evaluation of therapy outcomes acknowledged. Goal setting often focussed on immediate needs. Working in a risk‐focussed environment influenced participants' professional reasoning and work with patients, and while they advocated for occupational opportunities for patients, frustration was experienced in response to limits to occupational therapy involvement in risk assessment. Conclusion: The findings address a gap in the literature about the work of occupational therapists in forensic solitary confinement. Though participants' reasoning was informed by occupational and recovery principles, and they described working in occupation‐based ways, they did not always articulate explicit connections between theory and practice. Evidence supports direct referral for imaging by physical therapists. Accuracy and self-efficacy for imaging decisions have not been investigated in entry-level doctor of physical therapy (DPT) students. The purpose of this study was to understand the relationship between entry-level DPT instruction and accuracy and self-efficacy for imaging referral due to acute knee trauma. A second purpose was to identify relationships between accuracy and self-efficacy. An online survey was sent via e-mail to program directors in accredited DPT programs in the United States with an invitation to forward the survey to DPT students. The survey captured demographic information and included five questions that assessed the respondent's ability to apply the Ottawa Knee Rules (OKR). Self-efficacy was assessed using the Physiotherapist Student Self-Efficacy (PSE) questionnaire, a self-rated 5-point Likert scaled tool. Of 240 surveys, DPT students who completed imaging coursework had greater accuracy and higher self-efficacy (68.0% correct (95% CI, 63.6–72.5), PSE = 3.67, P <.001) compared to students who had not (45.8% correct (95% CI, 40.8–50.7), PSE = 2.67, P <.001). Rehabilitation professionals prescribe patients with suitable powered mobility aids (PMAs) based on patient characteristics, e.g., age and mobility. However, there is paucity of literature examining patient characteristics associated with PMA types in Asian contexts. This research aims to study (i) characteristics of Singapore PMA users and (ii) correlations between characteristics and two PMA types – motorised wheelchairs and powered scooters. It is hypothesised that patients' age, mobility status and medical conditions have correlations with PMA types. A cross-sectional, retrospective study design was used to investigate characteristics of patients (age ≥ 21 years) at Tan Tock Seng Hospital Occupational Therapy Seating Clinic between 2017 and 2019. Comparisons of proportions of motorised wheelchair users versus powered scooter users based on characteristics were analysed using Chi-square test. Subsequently, statistically significant patient characteristics were selected for a multiple logistic regression. Among 352 patients, 21% and 79% were prescribed motorised wheelchairs and powered scooters, respectively. Patients aged 61–90 years were twice those aged 21–60 years. Males were double of females. Patients of (i) an older age, (ii) more ambulant, (iii) independent in transfers and (iv) in activities of daily living (ADLs), were more likely powered scooter users. Conversely, patients of (i) a younger age, (ii) less ambulant, (iii) require assistance in transfers and (iv) in ADLs were more likely motorised wheelchair users. Patients' gender and caregiver status showed no statistically significant correlations with PMA types. Rehabilitation professionals could consider patients' age, mobility status, transfer status and ADL status when prescribing PMA for Asian populations. Guide rehabilitation professionals in making clinical decisions on the type of powered mobility aid (PMA) to prescribe based on patients' characteristics. Background: In recent years, increased attention has been given to using deep learning (DL) of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare to address nursing challenges. The adoption of new technologies in nursing needs to be improved, and AI in nursing is still in its early stages. However, the current literature needs more clarity, which affects clinical practice, research, and theory development. This study aimed to clarify the meaning of deep learning and identify the defining attributes of artificial intelligence within nursing. Methods: We conducted a concept analysis of the deep learning of AI in nursing care using Walker and Avant's 8-step approach. Our search strategy employed Boolean techniques and MeSH terms across databases, including BMC, CINAHL, ClinicalKey for Nursing, Embase, Ovid, Scopus, SpringerLink and Spinger Nature, ProQuest, PubMed, and Web of Science. By focusing on relevant keywords in titles and abstracts from articles published between 2018 and 2024, we initially found 571 sources. Results: Thirty-seven articles that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed in this study. The attributes of evidence included four themes: focus and immersion, coding and understanding, arranging layers and algorithms, and implementing within the process of use cases to modify recommendations. Antecedents, unclear systems and communication, insufficient data management knowledge and support, and compound challenges can lead to suffering and risky caregiving tasks. Applying deep learning techniques enables nurses to simulate scenarios, predict outcomes, and plan care more precisely. Embracing deep learning equipment allows nurses to make better decisions. It empowers them with enhanced knowledge while ensuring adequate support and resources essential for caregiver and patient well-being. Access to necessary equipment is vital for high-quality home healthcare. Conclusion: This study provides a clearer understanding of the use of deep learning in nursing and its implications for nursing practice. Future research should focus on exploring the impact of deep learning on healthcare operations management through quantitative and qualitative studies. The introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) in interventional radiology (IR) will bring about new challenges and opportunities for patients and clinicians. AI may comprise software as a medical device or AI-integrated hardware and will require a rigorous evaluation that should be guided based on the level of risk of the implementation. A hierarchy of risk of harm and possible harms are described herein. A checklist to guide deployment of an AI in a clinical IR environment is provided. Background: Whether the Western pT1acN0M0 gastric cancer (GC) patients who met the Japanese expanded criteria could be the candidates for endoscopic treatment (ET) remains unclear because of unknown long-term survival outcomes. Methods: A retrospective cohort study using data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program was performed. The survival differences between pT1acN0M0 gastric adenocarcinoma patients who received ET or gastrectomy treatment (GT) were evaluated using multivariate survival analysis. Results: A total of 314 pT1acN0M0 gastric adenocarcinoma patients who met the expanded criteria were included, 46 patients received ET and 268 patients received GT. pT1acN0M0 gastric adenocarcinoma patients met the expanded criteria underwent ET experienced a similar hazard of cancer-specific death compared with those underwent GT both in the multivariate Cox survival analysis (adjusted hazard ratio [HR]; 1.18, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.40–3.49; P = 0.766) and the multivariate competing risk model (subdistribution HR [SHR], 1.12, 95% CI 0.38–3.29; P = 0.845). The result that pT1acN0M0 gastric adenocarcinoma patients met the expanded criteria underwent ET experienced comparable survival outcomes to those who underwent GT did not change even compared with those who underwent GT with > 15 lymph nodes examined (adjusted HR, 1.55, 95% CI 0.44–5.49; P = 0.499; SHR, 1.47, 95% CI 0.44–4.88; P = 0.532). Conclusions: The ET can be considered in Western pT1acN0M0 gastric adenocarcinoma patients who met the Japanese expanded criteria. However, a prospective study should be warranted. Rationale: The evidentiary standards and epistemic models of clinical care, especially those of evidence‐based medicine, are dissimilar to those used in philosophy and examination of how the two systems intersect may help clinicians make more informed treatment decisions. Aims and Objectives: This paper examines the use of ethical frameworks in routine clinical decision‐making, using the example of acute stroke treatment decisions to demonstrate that ethical evaluation is integral to clinical practice. Method: Utilising acute stroke care as a lens through which to examine the phenomenon of ethical evaluation in medical practice, we offer a philosophical analysis of the presence of ethical evaluation in medicine. Results and Conclusion: We find that the medical establishment should embrace ethical evaluation as intrinsic to medical practice and that medical training and treatment guidelines should reflect this reality. Patients deserve clarity and transparency about how physicians make determinations about their treatment, and physicians should be prepared to offer explanations for those decisions. Background: Age‐friendly care, addressing what matters most, medications, mentation, and mobility, is a successful model for improving older adult care. We describe the initial outcomes of age‐friendly care implementation in five primary care clinics in an academic health system. Methods: In partnership with a regional quality improvement (QI) organization, we used practice facilitation to implement age‐friendly care from July 2020 to June 2023. Clinic workflows and electronic health record (EHR) templates were modified to capture six QI measures for patients ≥65 years:Documenting what matters most to patientsAdvance care planning (ACP)Annual cognitive screeningCaregiver referral to dementia community resourcesFall‐risk screeningCo‐prescription of opioid and sedative‐hypnotic drugs Providers were alerted if patients had positive screens and given support tools for clinical decision‐making. QI measures from January–June 2023 were compared to the year prior to implementation. Providers and staff were interviewed about implementation barriers and facilitators. Results: All six measures improved in Geriatrics and and other clinics showed improvement in ACP and cognitive screening. All clinics had high fall‐risk screening rates (≥85%). The least improved measure was co‐prescription of opioids and sedative‐hypnotics with co‐prescription rates ranging from 7% to 39%. Implementation hinged on leadership prioritization, practice facilitator guidance, clinical team buy‐in, EHR functionality, and clinical performance review. Three clinics received Age‐Friendly Health System recognition. Conclusions: A QI approach using practice facilitation and EHR templates improved some but not all age‐friendly care measures. Objective: This study compared the utilization and outcomes of face-to-face (F2F) vestibular support groups and online support communities (OSC) for individuals with vestibular disorders. Methods: We distributed a 31-question anonymous electronic survey through the Vestibular Disorders Association (VeDA) to F2F participants, categorizing user involvement in F2F, OSCs, or both and assessed impact on medical decision-making, psychosocial benefits, and goals achieved. Results: The F2F cohort consisted of 97 individuals comprising primarily of non-Hispanic White women (mean age = 57 years, SD ± 14 years) with diagnoses including persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (19%), Meniere's disease (15%), and vestibular neuritis (13%). Most participants were diagnosed by an otolaryngologist (65%) and attended F2F meetings monthly or less frequently (78%). The OSC group comprised of 551 individuals, primarily of non-Hispanic White women, but was younger in age (mean age = 50 years, SD ± 13 years). OSC participants notably engaged more, with 36% participating on a daily basis and 32% multiple times a week. F2F participants were older (mean age 57 years vs 50 years, P <.001) and more commonly referred by medical professionals (22% F2F vs 6% OSC, P <.001). Both groups had similar achieved goals, including hearing from others with the same diagnosis (84% vs 89%, P >.05) and similar impact on medical decision-making (75% vs 78%, P >.05). More F2F participants reported increased development of coping skills (79% F2F vs 69% OSC, P =.037). OSC participants typically found the group via an online search (75%), compared to 51% for F2F. OSC participants had higher daily engagement (36%) compared to F2F (1%). Conclusion: F2F users are older and more commonly referred by medical professionals. Despite less frequent engagement, F2F participants reported similar influences on achieved goals, medical decision-making, and impact on psychosocial benefits.
