36. Development and Validation of Social Support Questionnaire for Athletes.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to develop the Social Support Questionnaire for Athlete (SSQA) and to test its reliability, validity and whether it was scientific. SSQA could realize the quantitative evaluation of social support and provided the social support for athletes to grow into successful athletes. The pre-survey questionnaire of SSQA was formed by using the theory and method of questionnaire development to conduct a preliminary survey of 460 athletes. The formal investigation questionnaire was formed by exploratory factor analysis and 1 056 athletes were investigated. SSQA was formed by confirmatory factor analysis and reliability and validity test. The result showed that SSQA contained 24 items which were divided into 5 dimensions: coach support, family support, peer support, organizational support, policy and public opinion support. The cumulative explanatory variation was 68.419%. Confirmatory factor analysis showed that the index of questionnaire fitting was ideal. The internal consistency coefficient of SSQA was 0.908. The retest coefficient was 0.843. And the Cronbach a coefficient and retest coefficient of all dimensions were above 0.7. The correlation coefficient between SSQA and PSSS was 0.478. The load of each item in its respective dimension was close to or greater than 0.6, while the load in other dimensions was less than 0.4. The results showed that SSQA had better reliability and validity, and it could be used as a standard questionnaire to measure the athletes' social support. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

39. Evaluation of Energy Storage Devices for Aerospace Applications

Abstract

Electrical energy storage devices are highly desirable for aerospace applications, such as the Space Vehicle (SV) and many systems/parts for the Space Lunch System (SLS). For this special application, devices that can work over a broad temperature and pressure range are critical. Many electrical energy storage devices, such as dielectric capacitors, supercapacitors, and batteries, are commercially available. However, most of devices for civil applications are not designed for aerospace applications. For those designed devices for aerospace applications, the performance at different temperatures and pressures is unknown. Therefore, it is important to characterize the performance of these devices in aerospace environments. In this research, two types of devices (supercapacitors and batteries) are studied. In Chapter 1 and Appendix, commercial devices designed for aerospace applications are surveyed and summarized. In Chapter 2, the test system is built for the characterization of supercapacitors and batteries. In Chapter 3, four selected different supercapacitors are tested under different charge/discharge rates at different temperatures. The parameters such as discharge capacity, discharge energy, and ESR of four supercapacitors are determined at -40oC, -20oC, 0oC, 20oC, 40oC and 60oC under varying discharge rates. The PBM-1500 supercapacitor shows much higher temperature stability than other supercapacitors. In Chapter 4, four samples of batteries are characterized. These batteries show a similar trend of performance at different temperatures and under different discharging rates. At the low temperature, the resistance in batteries is large and the electrochemistry reaction velocity is low, the battery discharge capacity is small, which results in a low output power and energy. The battery discharge energy and capacity change with the discharge rate. If the discharge current is small, the discharge capacity is large.

40. Phytochemicals targeting ferroptosis in cardiovascular diseases: Recent advances and therapeutic perspectives.

Abstract

Ferroptosis is a form of iron-dependent regulatory cell death that is related to the pathogenesis and progression of various cardiovascular diseases, such as arrhythmia, diabetic cardiomyopathy, myocardial infarction, myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury, and heart failure. This makes it a promising therapeutic target for cardiovascular diseases. It is interesting that a significant number of cardiovascular disease treatment drugs derived from phytochemicals have been shown to target ferroptosis, thus producing cardioprotective effects. This study offers a concise overview of the initiation and control mechanisms of ferroptosis. It discusses the core regulatory factors of ferroptosis as potential new therapeutic targets for various cardiovascular diseases, elucidating how ferroptosis influences the progression of cardiovascular diseases. In addition, this review systematically summarizes the regulatory effects of phytochemicals on ferroptosis, emphasizing their potential mechanisms and clinical applications in treating cardiovascular diseases. This study provides a reference for further elucidating the molecular mechanisms of phytochemicals in treating cardiovascular diseases. Abstract

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common digestive disease without specific treatment, and its pathogenesis features multiple deleterious amplification loops dependent on translation, triggered by cytosolic Ca 2+ ([Ca 2+ ] i ) overload; however, the underlying mechanisms in Ca 2+ overload of AP remains incompletely understood. Here we show that microRNA-26a (miR-26a) inhibits pancreatic acinar cell (PAC) store-operated Ca 2+ entry (SOCE) channel expression, Ca 2+ overload, and AP. We find that major SOCE channels are post-transcriptionally induced in PACs during AP, whereas miR-26a expression is reduced in experimental and human AP and correlated with AP severity. Mechanistically, miR-26a simultaneously targets Trpc3 and Trpc6 SOCE channels and attenuates physiological oscillations and pathological elevations of [Ca 2+ ] i in PACs. MiR-26a deficiency increases SOCE channel expression and [Ca 2+ ] i overload, and significantly exacerbates AP. Conversely, global or PAC-specific overexpression of miR-26a in mice ameliorates pancreatic edema, neutrophil infiltration, acinar necrosis, and systemic inflammation, accompanied with remarkable improvements on pathological determinants related with [Ca 2+ ] i overload. Moreover, pancreatic or systemic administration of an miR-26a mimic to mice significantly alleviates experimental AP.
