Clustered cell-free networking has been considered as an effective scheme to trade off between the low complexity of current cellular networks and the superior performance of fully cooperative networks. With clustered cell-free networking, the wireless network is decomposed into a number of disjoint parallel operating subnetworks with joint processing adopted inside each subnetwork independently for intra-subnetwork interference mitigation. Different from the existing works that aim to maximize the number of subnetworks without considering the limited processing capability of base-stations (BSs), this paper investigates the clustered cell-free networking problem with the objective of maximizing the sum ergodic capacity while imposing a limit on the number of user equipments (UEs) in each subnetwork to constrain the joint processing complexity. By successfully transforming the combinatorial NP-hard clustered cell-free networking problem into an integer convex programming problem, the problem is solved by the branch-and-bound method. To further reduce the computational complexity, a bisection clustered cell-free networking (BC^2F-Net) algorithm is proposed to decompose the network hierarchically. Simulation results show that compared to the branch-and-bound based scheme, the proposed BC^2F-Net algorithm significantly reduces the computational complexity yet achieves nearly the same network decomposition result. Moreover, our BC^2F-Net algorithm achieves near-optimal performance and outperforms the state-of-the-art benchmarks with up to 25% capacity gain.

For the $N$-point energy correlator in the collinear limit, the largest projected angle $R$ in the large $N$ limit can be viewed as the radius of the jet that encompasses all the collinear core particles, while contributions from soft gluons to the radius are suppressed. We relate the $N$-point energy correlator in the large $N$ limit to the moments of the fragmentation functions to a jet, and, using previous work, we compare the difference between jets initiated by heavy quarks and light quarks. With the ever-growing demand for low-latency services in machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, the delay performance of random access networks has become a primary concern, which critically depends on the sensing capability of nodes. To understand the effect of sensing on the optimal delay performance, the challenge lies in unifying the delay analysis of sensing-free Aloha and sensing-based Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA) with various design features such as backoff and connection-free or connection-based. In this paper, based on a unified analytical framework, the mean queueing delay of data packets with Aloha and CSMA is characterized and optimized, with which the upper-bound of sensing time for CSMA to outperform Aloha in terms of the minimum mean queueing delay is further obtained. The analysis is also applied to the Random Access-Based Small Data Transmission (RA-SDT) schemes in 5G networks to investigate when and how significant their delay performance can be improved by sensing, which sheds important insights into practical access protocol design., Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures

Slotted Aloha has been widely adopted in various communication networks. Yet if the transmission probabilities and traffic input rates of transmitters are not properly regulated, their data queues may easily become unstable. For stability analysis of Aloha networks with multiple receivers, the focus of previous studies has been placed on the maximum input rate of each transmitter, below which the network is guaranteed to be stabilized under any given topology. By assuming a fixed and identical transmission probability across the network, however, network stability is found to be unachievable when the input rate exceeds zero. As we will demonstrate in this paper, the key to stabilizing the network lies in proper selection of transmission probabilities according to the traffic input rates and locations of all transmitters and receivers. Specifically, for an Aloha network with multiple capture receivers, by establishing and solving the fixed-point equations of the steady-state probabilities of successful transmissions of Head-of-Line (HOL) packets, the exact service rates of all transmitters' queues are obtained, based on which the operating region of transmission probabilities for achieving stability and the stability region of input rates are further characterized. The results are illustrated in various scenarios of multi-cell and ad-hoc networks. Simulation results validate the analysis and corroborate that the network can be stabilized as long as the traffic input rates are within the stability region, and the transmission probabilities are properly adjusted according to the traffic input rates and network topology.

In this paper, we investigate the heavy quark (HQ) mass effects on the transverse momentum dependent fragmentation function (TMDFF). We first calculate the one-loop TMDFF initiated by a heavy quark. We then investigate the HQ TMDFF in the limit where the transverse momentum, $q_\perp$ is small compared to the heavy quark mass, $q_\perp \ll m$ and also in the opposite limit where $q_\perp \gg m$. As applications of the HQ TMDFF, we study the HQ transverse momentum dependent jet fragmentation function, where the heavy quark fragments into a jet containing a heavy hadron, and we investigate a heavy hadron's transverse momentum dependent distribution with respect to the thrust axis in $e^+e^-$ collisions., Comment: 38 pages, 7 figures; revised version

The $T_{cc}^+$ exotic meson, discovered by the LHCb Collaboration in 2021, can be interpreted as a molecular state of $D^{(*)0}$ and $D^{(*)+}$ mesons. We compute next-to-leading-order (NLO) contributions to the strong decay of $T_{cc}^+$ in an effective field theory for $D$ mesons and pions, considering contributions from one-pion exchange and final-state rescattering. Corrections to the total width, as well as the differential distribution in the invariant mass of the final-state $D$ meson pair are computed. The results remain in good agreement with LHCb experimental results when the NLO contributions are added. This paper investigates the bit-interleaved coded generalized spatial modulation (BICGSM) with iterative decoding (BICGSM-ID) for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) visible light communications (VLC). In the BICGSM-ID scheme, the information bits conveyed by the signal-domain (SiD) symbols and the spatial-domain (SpD) light emitting diode (LED)-index patterns are coded by a protograph low-density parity-check (P-LDPC) code. Specifically, we propose a signal-domain symbol expanding and re-allocating (SSER) method for constructing a type of novel generalized spatial modulation (GSM) constellations, referred to as SSERGSM constellations, so as to boost the performance of the BICGSM-ID MIMO-VLC systems. Moreover, by applying a modified PEXIT (MPEXIT) algorithm, we further design a family of rate-compatible P-LDPC codes, referred to as enhanced accumulate-repeat-accumulate (EARA) codes, which possess both excellent decoding thresholds and linear-minimum-distance-growth property. Both analysis and simulation results illustrate that the proposed SSERGSM constellations and P-LDPC codes can remarkably improve the convergence and decoding performance of MIMO-VLC systems. Therefore, the proposed P-LDPC-coded SSERGSM-mapped BICGSM-ID configuration is envisioned as a promising transmission solution to satisfy the high-throughput requirement of MIMO-VLC applications.

To mitigate the impact of noise and interference on multi-level-cell (MLC) flash memory with the use of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, we propose a dynamic write-voltage design scheme considering the asymmetric property of raw bit error rate (RBER), which can obtain the optimal write voltage by minimizing a cost function. In order to further improve the decoding performance of flash memory, we put forward a low-complexity entropy-based read-voltage optimization scheme, which derives the read voltages by searching for the optimal entropy value via a log-likelihood ratio (LLR)-aware cost function. To achieve reliable and efficient transmissions in free-space optical (FSO) communication, this paper designs a new protograph low-density parity-check (PLDPC) coded generalized spatial multipulse position modulation (GSMPPM) system over weak turbulence channels. Specifically, we investigate the PLDPC code, generalized space shift keying (GSSK) modulation, and MPPM constellation. First, we propose a type of novel GSMPPM constellations that intelligently integrates the GSSK into MPPM, referred to as asymmetric dual-mode (ADM) constellations, so as to improve the performance of the PLDPC-coded GSMPPM system. Furthermore, exploiting a protograph extrinsic information transfer (PEXIT) algorithm, we construct a type of improved PLDPC code, referred to as I-PLDPC code, which outperforms the existing PLDPC codes over weak turbulence channels. Analytical and simulation results show that the proposed ADM constellations and the proposed I-PLDPC code can obtain noticeable performance gains over their counterparts. By moving to millimeter wave (mmWave) frequencies, base stations (BSs) will be densely deployed to provide seamless coverage in sixth generation (6G) mobile communication systems, which, unfortunately, leads to severe cell-edge problem. In addition, with massive multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna arrays employed at BSs, the beamspace channel is sparse for each user, and thus there is no need to serve all the users in a cell by all the beams therein jointly. Therefore, it is of paramount importance to develop a flexible clustered cell-free networking scheme that can decompose the whole network into a number of weakly interfered small subnetworks operating independently and in parallel. Given a per-user rate constraint for service quality guarantee, this paper aims to maximize the number of decomposed subnetworks so as to reduce the signaling overhead and system complexity as much as possible. By formulating it as a bipartite graph partitioning problem, a rate-constrained network decomposition (RC-NetDecomp) algorithm is proposed, which can smoothly tune the network structure from the current cellular network with simple beam allocation to a fully cooperative network by increasing the required per-user rate. NLO evolution of the Jalilian-Marian-Iancu-McLerran-Weigert-Leonidov-Kovner (JIMWLK) equation with massless quarks was derived a few years ago. We make a step further to compute the evolution kernels focusing on the effects due to finite quark masses. To this goal, the light-cone wave function of a fast moving dilute hadronic projectile is computed up to ${\cal O}(g^3)$ in QCD coupling constant. Compared with the massless case, a new IR divergence emerges, which is eventually canceled by a mass dependent counter term. In this paper, we study the fragmentation of a heavy quark into a jet near threshold, meaning that final state jet carries most of the energy of the fragmenting heavy quark. Using the heavy quark fragmentation function, we simultaneously resum large logarithms of the jet radius $R$ and $1-z$, where $z$ is the ratio of the jet energy to the initiating heavy quark energy. There are numerically significant corrections to the leading order rate due to this resummation. We also investigate the heavy quark fragmentation to a groomed jet, using the soft drop grooming algorithm as an example. In order to do so, we introduce a collinear-ultrasoft mode sensitive to the grooming region determined by the algorithm's $z_{\mathrm{cut}}$ parameter. This allows us to resum large logarithms of $z_{\mathrm{cut}}/(1-z)$, again leading to large numerical corrections near the endpoint. A nice feature of the analysis of the heavy quark fragmenting to a groomed jet is the heavy quark mass $m$ renders the algorithm infrared finite, allowing a perturbative calculation. We analyze this for $E_JR \sim m$ and $E_JR\gg m$, where $E_J$ is the jet energy. To do the latter case, we introduce an ultracollinear-soft mode, allowing us to resum large logarithms of $E_JR/m$. Finally, as an application we calculate the rate for $e^+e^-$ collisions to produce a heavy quark jet in the endpoint region, where we show that grooming effects have a sizable contribution near the endpoint., Comment: 36 pages, 11 figures; matches the version to be published

In high energy exclusive processes involving leptons, QED corrections can be sensitive to infrared scales like the lepton mass and the soft photon energy cut, resulting in large logarithms that need to be resummed to all order in $\alpha$. When considering the ratio of the exclusive processes between two different lepton flavors, the ratio $R$ can be expressed in terms of factorized functions in the decoupled leptonic sectors. While some of the functional terms cancel, there remain the large logarithms due to the lepton mass difference and the energy cut. This factorization process can be universally applied to the exclusive processes such as $Z\to l^+l^-$ and $B^-\to l^-\bar{\nu}_l$, where the resummed result in the ratio gives significant deviations from the naive expectation from lepton universality., Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, matches the published version in PRD

Chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) is a low-energy effective field theory of QCD and also a nonlinear sigma model based on the symmetry breaking pattern ${\rm SU}(N_f)\times {\rm SU}(N_f)\to {\rm SU}(N_f)$. In the limit of massless $N_f$ quarks, we enumerate the independent operators without external sources in ChPT using an on-shell method, by counting and presenting the soft blocks at each order in the derivative expansion, up to ${\cal O}(p^{10})$. Given the massless on-shell condition and total momentum conservation, soft blocks are homogeneous polynomials of kinematic invariants exhibiting the Adler's zero when any external momentum becomes soft and vanishing. In addition, soft blocks are seeds for recursively generating all tree amplitudes of Nambu-Goldstone bosons without recourse to ChPT, and in one-to-one correspondence with the "low energy constants" which are the Wilson coefficients. Relations among operators, such as those arising from equations of motion, integration-by-parts, hermiticity, and symmetry structure, manifest themselves in the soft blocks in simple ways.
