Inspired by the construction of the F{\"o}llmer process, we construct a unit-time flow on the Euclidean space, termed the F{\"o}llmer flow, whose flow map at time 1 pushes forward a standard Gaussian measure onto a general target measure. We study the well-posedness of the F{\"o}llmer flow and establish the Lipschitz property of the flow map at time 1. We apply the Lipschitz mapping to several rich classes of probability measures on deriving dimension-free functional inequalities and concentration inequalities for the empirical measure.

The development of deep learning models in medical image analysis is majorly limited by the lack of large-sized and well-annotated datasets. Unsupervised learning does not require labels and is more suitable for solving medical image analysis problems. However, most of the current unsupervised learning methods need to be applied to large datasets. To make unsupervised learning applicable to small datasets, we proposed Swin MAE, which is a masked autoencoder with Swin Transformer as its backbone. Even on a dataset of only a few thousand medical images and without using any pre-trained models, Swin MAE is still able to learn useful semantic features purely from images. It can equal or even slightly outperform the supervised model obtained by Swin Transformer trained on ImageNet in terms of the transfer learning results of downstream tasks. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) plays an important role in diagnosing the parotid tumor, where accurate segmentation of tumors is highly desired for determining appropriate treatment plans and avoiding unnecessary surgery. However, the task remains nontrivial and challenging due to ambiguous boundaries and various sizes of the tumor, as well as the presence of a large number of anatomical structures around the parotid gland that are similar to the tumor. To overcome these problems, we propose a novel anatomy-aware framework for automatic segmentation of parotid tumors from multimodal MRI. First, a Transformer-based multimodal fusion network PT-Net is proposed in this paper. The encoder of PT-Net extracts and fuses contextual information from three modalities of MRI from coarse to fine, to obtain cross-modality and multi-scale tumor information. The decoder stacks the feature maps of different modalities and calibrates the multimodal information using the channel attention mechanism. Second, considering that the segmentation model is prone to be disturbed by similar anatomical structures and make wrong predictions, we design anatomy-aware loss. By calculating the distance between the activation regions of the prediction segmentation and the ground truth, our loss function forces the model to distinguish similar anatomical structures with the tumor and make correct predictions. Extensive experiments with MRI scans of the parotid tumor showed that our PT-Net achieved higher segmentation accuracy than existing networks. The anatomy-aware loss outperformed state-of-the-art loss functions for parotid tumor segmentation. Parotid gland tumor is a common type of head and neck tumor. Segmentation of the parotid glands and tumors by MR images is important for the treatment of parotid gland tumors. However, segmentation of the parotid glands is particularly challenging due to their variable shape and low contrast with surrounding structures. Recently deep learning has developed rapidly, which can handle complex problems. However, most of the current deep learning methods for processing medical images are still based on supervised learning. Compared with natural images, medical images are difficult to acquire and costly to label. Contrastive learning, as an unsupervised learning method, can more effectively utilize unlabeled medical images. In this paper, we used a Transformer-based contrastive learning method and innovatively trained the contrastive learning network with transfer learning. Then, the output model was transferred to the downstream parotid segmentation task, which improved the performance of the parotid segmentation model on the test set. The improved DSC was 89.60%, MPA was 99.36%, MIoU was 85.11%, and HD was 2.98. All four metrics showed significant improvement compared to the results of using a supervised learning model as a pre-trained model for the parotid segmentation network. In addition, we found that the improvement of the segmentation network by the contrastive learning model was mainly in the encoder part, so this paper also tried to build a contrastive learning network for the decoder part and discussed the problems encountered in the process of building.

Background and objective: Parotid gland tumors account for approximately 2% to 10% of head and neck tumors. Preoperative tumor localization, differential diagnosis, and subsequent selection of appropriate treatment for parotid gland tumors are critical. However, the relative rarity of these tumors and the highly dispersed tissue types have left an unmet need for a subtle differential diagnosis of such neoplastic lesions based on preoperative radiomics. Recently, deep learning methods have developed rapidly, especially Transformer beats the traditional convolutional neural network in computer vision. Many new Transformer-based networks have been proposed for computer vision tasks. Methods: In this study, multicenter multimodal parotid gland MR images were collected. The Swin-Unet which was based on Transformer was used. MR images of short time inversion recovery, T1-weighted and T2-weighted modalities were combined into three-channel data to train the network. We achieved segmentation of the region of interest for parotid gland and tumor. Results: The Dice-Similarity Coefficient of the model on the test set was 88.63%, Mean Pixel Accuracy was 99.31%, Mean Intersection over Union was 83.99%, and Hausdorff Distance was 3.04. Then a series of comparison experiments were designed in this paper to further validate the segmentation performance of the algorithm. Conclusions: Experimental results showed that our method has good results for parotid gland and tumor segmentation. The Transformer-based network outperforms the traditional convolutional neural network in the field of medical images.

Recent works on Multimodal 3D Computer-aided diagnosis have demonstrated that obtaining a competitive automatic diagnosis model when a 3D convolution neural network (CNN) brings more parameters and medical images are scarce remains nontrivial and challenging. Considering both consistencies of regions of interest in multimodal images and diagnostic accuracy, we propose a novel mutual attention-based hybrid dimensional network for MultiModal 3D medical image classification (MMNet). The hybrid dimensional network integrates 2D CNN with 3D convolution modules to generate deeper and more informative feature maps, and reduce the training complexity of 3D fusion. Besides, the pre-trained model of ImageNet can be used in 2D CNN, which improves the performance of the model. The stereoscopic attention is focused on building rich contextual interdependencies of the region in 3D medical images. To improve the regional correlation of pathological tissues in multimodal medical images, we further design a mutual attention framework in the network to build the region-wise consistency in similar stereoscopic regions of different image modalities, providing an implicit manner to instruct the network to focus on pathological tissues. MMNet outperforms many previous solutions and achieves results competitive to the state-of-the-art on three multimodal imaging datasets, i.e., Parotid Gland Tumor (PGT) dataset, the MRNet dataset, and the PROSTATEx dataset, and its advantages are validated by extensive experiments., Comment: 11 pages, 8 figures

We study the problem of finding global minimizers of $V(x):\mathbb{R}^d\rightarrow\mathbb{R}$ approximately via sampling from a probability distribution $\mu_{\sigma}$ with density $p_{\sigma}(x)=\dfrac{\exp(-V(x)/\sigma)}{\int_{\mathbb R^d} \exp(-V(y)/\sigma) dy }$ with respect to the Lebesgue measure for $\sigma \in (0,1]$ small enough. We analyze a sampler based on the Euler-Maruyama discretization of the Schr{\"o}dinger-F{\"o}llmer diffusion processes with stochastic approximation under appropriate assumptions on the step size $s$ and the potential $V$. We prove that the output of the proposed sampler is an approximate global minimizer of $V(x)$ with high probability at cost of sampling $\mathcal{O}(d^{3})$ standard normal random variables. Clinical risk stratification for sudden cardiac death (SCD) in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HC) employs rules derived from American College of Cardiology Foundation/American Heart Association (ACCF/AHA) guidelines or the HCM Risk-SCD model (C-index of 0.69), which utilize a few clinical variables. We assessed whether data-driven machine learning methods that consider a wider range of variables can effectively identify HC patients with ventricular arrhythmias (VAr) that lead to SCD. We scanned the electronic health records of 711 HC patients for sustained ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation. Patients with ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation (n = 61) were tagged as VAr cases and the remaining (n = 650) as non-VAr. The 2-sample t test and information gain criterion were used to identify the most informative clinical variables that distinguish VAr from non-VAr; patient records were reduced to include only these variables. Data imbalance stemming from low number of VAr cases was addressed by applying a combination of over- and under-sampling strategies.We trained and tested multiple classifiers under this sampling approach, showing effective classification. We evaluated 93 clinical variables, of which 22 proved predictive of VAr. The ensemble of logistic regression and naive Bayes classifiers, trained based on these 22 variables and corrected for data imbalance, was most effective in separating VAr from non-VAr cases (sensitivity = 0.73, specificity = 0.76, C-index = 0.83). Our method (HCM-VAr-Risk Model) identified 12 new predictors of VAr, in addition to 10 established SCD predictors. In conclusion, this is the first application of machine learning for identifying HC patients with VAr, using clinical attributes.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) patients have a high incidence of atrial fibrillation (AF) and increased stroke risk, even with low risk of congestive heart failure, hypertension, age, diabetes, previous stroke/transient ischemic attack scores. Hence, there is a need to understand the pathophysiology of AF and stroke in HCM. In this retrospective study, we develop and apply a data-driven, machine learning based method to identify AF cases, and clinical and imaging features associated with AF, using electronic health record data. HCM patients with documented paroxysmal/persistent/permanent AF (n = 191) were considered AF cases, and the remaining patients in sinus rhythm (n = 640) were tagged as No-AF. We evaluated 93 clinical variables and the most informative variables useful for distinguishing AF from No-AF cases were selected based on the 2-sample t test and the information gain criterion. We identified 18 highly informative variables that are positively (n = 11) and negatively (n = 7) correlated with AF in HCM. Next, patient records were represented via these 18 variables. Data imbalance resulting from the relatively low number of AF cases was addressed via a combination of oversampling and under-sampling strategies. We trained and tested multiple classifiers under this sampling approach, showing effective classification. Specifically, an ensemble of logistic regression and naive Bayes classifiers, trained based on the 18 variables and corrected for data imbalance, proved most effective for separating AF from No-AF cases (sensitivity = 0.74, specificity = 0.70, C-index = 0.80). Our model is the first machine learning based method for identification of AF cases in HCM. This model demonstrates good performance, addresses data imbalance, and suggests that AF is associated with a more severe cardiac HCM phenotype.

Over the past decade, convolutional neural networks (CNN) have shown very competitive performance in medical image analysis tasks, such as disease classification, tumor segmentation, and lesion detection. CNN has great advantages in extracting local features of images. However, due to the locality of convolution operation, it can not deal with long-range relationships well. Recently, transformers have been applied to computer vision and achieved remarkable success in large-scale datasets. Compared with natural images, multi-modal medical images have explicit and important long-range dependencies, and effective multi-modal fusion strategies can greatly improve the performance of deep models. This prompts us to study transformer-based structures and apply them to multi-modal medical images. Existing transformer-based network architectures require large-scale datasets to achieve better performance. However, medical imaging datasets are relatively small, which makes it difficult to apply pure transformers to medical image analysis. Therefore, we propose TransMed for multi-modal medical image classification. TransMed combines the advantages of CNN and transformer to efficiently extract low-level features of images and establish long-range dependencies between modalities. We evaluated our model for the challenging problem of preoperative diagnosis of parotid gland tumors, and the experimental results show the advantages of our proposed method. We argue that the combination of CNN and transformer has tremendous potential in a large number of medical image analysis tasks.
