ZC3H12C is an important member of the CCCH-zinc finger protein family and is mainly involved in host immune and inflammatory diseases. However, its abnormal expression and prognostic value in cancer have not yet been established. Through comparative analysis of the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database, we found that ZC3H12C is the most relevant to the prognosis, grade, and stage of renal clear cell carcinoma (ccRCC) across 33 cancers. With the help of patient transcription and clinical data from the TCGA and GEO (GSE53757, GSE36895) databases, we determined that in the immune environment of patients with ccRCC, ZC3H12C was clearly negatively correlated with Tregs and was significantly positively correlated with monocytes. In addition, protein phosphorylation and DNA methylation analysis also showed that ZC3H12C negatively regulates the role of cancer in ccRCC. Our research may provide new insights into ccRCC immunotherapy and bring forth novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets.

Although there have been studies correlating DYRK2 with a number of human cancers, there has been no pan-cancer analysis. Therefore, through the TCGA database, we conducted a related study on the expression of DYRK2 in cancers.The expression of DYRK2 is obviously increased in some cancers, while the opposite is true in others, and there is a clear association between its expression and the prognosis of cancer patients.The mutation of DYRK2 is also significantly correlated with patients’ prognosis in certain human tumors. In addition, phosphorylation and methylation levels of DYRK2 are different between tumor tissues and adjacent normal tissues in various tumors. In the tumour microenvironment, the expression of DYRK2 correlates with cancer-associated fibroblast infiltration, such as BLCA or HNSC. In order to fully understand the role of DYRK2 in different tumors, we conducted a pan-cancer analysis.

Three experiments were designed to examine how the luminances of textures and their background affect the ocurrence of texture laciness, in which one of two textures is seen through the other in front of it for some arrangement. Twenty-six subjects rated the texture laciness in the experiments, and 14 subjects also estimated the apparent depth magnitude between the textures in Experiment 3. Experiment 1 showed that the texture laciness occurred more strongly with the decreasing smilarity in luminance between the textures. Experiments 2 and 3 showed that texture laciness occurred more strongly with increasing difference in similarity of luminance between each texture and background. The results indicate that the occurrence of laciness is affected not by the local similarity of luminance between the textures but the global similarity of luminance among the textures and the background. A similarity in the results between the laciness and the apparent depth suggests some relationship between the laciness and the depth.

Why would subsistence-level indigenous people join the market economy? The question matters because, in answering it, one contributes to a venerable debate about the effects of markets on well-being. Anthropologists have generally treated market participation as exogenous. Market participation is in fact endogenous if it reflects choice. We review hypotheses of determinants that push or pull people to the market, including resource scarcity from population pressure and encroachment, desire to increase level of and reduce variability in food consumption, and the allure of foreign goods. To test the hypotheses we use different series of panel data from Tsimane' Amerindians, a foraging-horticultural society in the Bolivian Amazon. We correct for the endogeneity of market participation by using outside traveling traders as an instrumental variable for market participation.
