The article discusses the examination of the surgical interventions used to correct an intersexed condition, one previously known as hermaphroditism, and the pressure on parents to choose one sex or the other. It examines two principle technologies of intersex such as current medical protocols, and web sites constructed by and for people with intersex. The subject positions delineated by web-based intersex texts and practices reiterate, renegotiate, and refigure the medicalized bodies and identities inscribed in the medical literature. In the second part, the author looks at the way some intersexed women use the World Wide Web to advocate for the rights of their community and resist medicalization.
