The present work aims to create lattice distortion and optimize the surface oxygen vacancy (OV) concentration in a model spinel (Co0.2Cr0.2Fe0.2Mn0.2Ni0.2)3O4 high-entropy oxide (HEO) through a heteroatom La3+ doping strategy. As demonstrated, La3+ with a large radius can be doped successfully into the spinel lattice of (Co0.2Cr0.2Fe0.2Mn0.2Ni0.2)3O4, thereby not only causing lattice distortion to increase oxygen vacancies but also refining crystalline grains and improving the specific area. Compared with the (Co0.2Cr0.2Fe0.2Mn0.2Ni0.2)3O4 anode, the (La0.01CoCrFeMnNi)3/5.01O4 anode with moderate doping exhibits excellent cycling performance (1228 mAh·g−1 after 400 cycles at 0.2 A·g−1) and yields an increase of 75% rate capability at 3 A·g−1 (420 mAh·g−1 at 3 A·g−1). The desirable kinetic transport of electrons and diffusion of Li+ within the moderately La3+-doped anode and the synergistic interfacial pseudocapacitive behavior satisfy the redox reaction at a high rate, thus increasing rate capability.

Abstract Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs), a special sort of three‐dimensional crystalline porous lattices composed of organic multi‐site connectors and metal nodes, are characterized by unique porosity and high specific surface area, which have attracted a wide range of interest as electrode materials for the electrochemical energy storage devices in recent years. In this contribution, we outline the current research progress on the construction of pristine MOFs, MOF composites, and MOF derivatives and their applications as electrode materials in supercapacitors (SCs) and lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs). Specifically, we discuss the shortcomings of MOFs‐based electrode materials for SCs and LIBs. The innovative work on performance improvements by combining MOFs with other conductive materials and derivating MOFs into metal sulfides, metal oxides, metal phosphides, and porous carbon is also presented in detail. Finally, our perspectives on the challenges in the future for a grasp of the potential mechanisms are tentatively provided. This review will inspire more developments and applications of MOFs‐based electrode materials for electrochemical energy storage.

Straw mulching is a widespread practice for reducing the soil carbon loss caused by erosion. However, the effects of straw mulching on dissolved organic matter (DOM) runoff loss from black soil are not well studied. How straw mulching affects the composition and loss of runoff DOM by changing soil aggregates remains largely unclear. Here, a straw mulching treatment was compared to a no mulching treatment (as a control) on sloping farmland with black soil erosion in Northeast China. Introduction: Land use land cover (LULC) change is an important factor driving global change, influenced by the interaction between human activities and natural ecosystems. The upper watershed of the Qingshui River is adversely affected due to anthropogenic activities. Therefore, analyzing the driving factors of land use changes in this area is crucial for ecological protection and sustainable development.Methods: Based on the long-term Landsat image data from 1990–2020, the spatiotemporal change characteristics of the LULC rate and its driving factors in the upper watershed of the Qingshui River basin were analyzed using the land use transfer matrix and dynamic degree of land use processes. The redundancy analysis was performed to investigate the links between LULC changes, socio-economic and climatic variables.Results: From 1990–2020, the area under waters and woodland decreased by −2.94 km2 and −451.44 km2, respectively. Meanwhile, grassland, arable land, construction land, and unused land area increased by 278.71 km2, 115.72 km2, 46.48 km2 and 13.49 km2. In terms of the proportion area to the total land (2334.10 km2), woodland accounted for 63.43–44.09% of the total land and was mainly distributed in the east; arable land was 17.00–21.96% and was largely distributed on both sides of the middle and lower parts of the basin; construction land comprised 1.03–3.02% and was generally found in flat areas near the downstream and water area was only 0.1–0.01% which primarily covered the Qingshui River and its tributaries from 1990–2020. Construction and unused lands showed the fastest rate of change, followed by water area and grasslands. Accelerated urbanization, rapid socio-economic development, and the farmland-to-forest policy were the main driving forces behind the change in LULC in the upper reaches of the Qingshui River.Discussion: The findings of this study can assist in planning strong management strategies for ecological protection and socio-economic sustainable development in the study area.

Abstract The African swine fever virus (ASFV) has caused severe economic losses in the pig industry. To monitor ASFV spread, the p30 protein has been identified as an ideal infection marker due to its early and long-term expression during the ASFV infection period. Timely monitoring of ASFV p30 enables the detection of ASFV infection and assessment of disease progression. Aptamers are an outstanding substitute for antibodies to develop an efficient tool for ASFV p30 protein detection. In this study, a series of aptamer candidates were screened by in vitro magnetic bead-based systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (MB-SELEX). An aptamer (Atc-20) finally showed high specificity and affinity (Kd = 140 ± 10 pM) against ASFV p30 protein after truncation and affinity assessment. Furthermore, an aptamer/antibody heterogeneous sandwich detection assay was designed based on Atc20, achieving a linear detection of ASFV p30 ranging from 8 to 125 ng/ml and a detection limit (LOD) of 0.61 ng/ml. This assay showed good analytical performances and effectively detected p30 protein in diluted serum samples, presenting promising potential for the development of ASFV biosensors.

Abstract Shadow removal is a challenging task because the variety of shadows is influenced by surface texture and lighting. This paper proposes a dynamic alignment and illumination‐aware convolution (DAIC), which consists of a Feature Alignment Module (FAM) and a Dynamic Weight Module (DWM). FAM aligns the downsampled deep features with the original features and helps to extract the optimal local information to ensure that the object texture features are not corrupted. DWM generates weights according to different lighting variations for a better shadow removal result. The shadow removal approach is based on an image decomposition algorithm using a multi‐exposure image fusion model. Here, the shadow removal network and refinement network use U‐Net framework, and the transposed convolution operations are replaced with DAIC in the decoder part of U‐Net to improve the performance of the network. The experiments are conducted on two large shadow removal datasets, ISTD+ and SRD. Compared to state‐of‐the‐art methods, this model achieves optimal performance in terms of Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) for the non‐shadow region. It also achieves performance comparable to the state‐of‐the‐art method in terms of RMSE for the shadow region and structural similarity index measurement for the entire image.

AbstractThe mitogenome of Bauhinia variegate was assembled and characterized in this study. The mitogenome size was 437,271 bp, and its GC content was 45.5%. 36 protein-coding genes, 17 tRNAs and 3 rRNAs were annotated in the mitogenome. A total of 12 MTPTs, ranging from 71 bp to 3562 bp, were identified in the mitogenome and covered 1.46% (6373 bp) of the mitogenome. Phylogenetic analysis of 15 species of Leguminosae based on 23 core protein-coding genes showed that B. variegata was sister to Tylosema esculentum, another member from the subfamily Cercidoideae. The mitogenome of B. variegata provides a valuable genetic resource for further phylogenetic studies of this family.

AbstractContext Current chemotherapeutic drugs cannot meet the treatment needs of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), so urgent action is needed to discover novel chemotherapeutic agents. Our previous study revealed that garcinone E (GE) inhibited the proliferation and metastasis of NPC, suggesting that the compound might display promising anticancer activity.Objective To examine the mechanism underlying the anti-NPC activity of GE for the first time.Materials and methods For MTS assay, NPC cells were treated with 2.5-20 μmol/L GE or dimethyl sulfoxide for 24, 48, and 72 h. Colony formation capacity, cell cycle distribution, and in vivo xenograft experiment of GE were assessed. MDC staining, StubRFP-sensGFP-LC3 observation, LysoBrite Blue staining, and immunofluorescence examined the autophagy of NPC cells after GE exposure. Western blotting, RNA-sequencing, and RT-qPCR measured protein and mRNA levels.Results GE suppressed cell viability with an IC50 of 7.64, 8.83 and 4.65 μmol/L for HK1, HONE1 and S18 cells. GE inhibited colony formation and cell cycle, increased autophagosome number, and inhibited the autophagic flux partially by blocking lysosome-autophagosome fusion, and repressed S18 xenograft growth. GE dysregulated the expression of autophagy- and cell cycle-related proteins such as Beclin-1, SQSTM1/p62, LC3, CDKs, and Cyclins. Bioinformatics GO and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis of RNA-seq showed that autophagy was enriched in differentially expressed genes upon GE treatment.Discussion and conclusion GE acts as an autophagic flux inhibitor, which may have potential chemotherapeutic use for NPC treatment and may have an application in basic research to explore the mechanisms of autophagy.

Abstract One major obstacle in the drug treatment of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is its highly fibrotic tumor microenvironment, which is replete with activated pancreatic stellate cells (a‐PSCs). These a‐PSCs generate abundant extracellular matrix and secrete various cytokines to form biophysical and biochemical barriers, impeding drug access to tumor tissues. Therefore, it is imperative to develop a strategy for reversing PSC activation and thereby removing the barriers to facilitate PDAC drug treatment. Herein, by integrating chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP)‐seq, Assays for Transposase‐Accessible Chromatin (ATAC)‐seq, and RNA‐seq techniques, this work reveals that super‐enhancers (SEs) promote the expression of various genes involved in PSC activation. Disruption of SE‐associated transcription with JQ1 reverses the activated phenotype of a‐PSCs and decreases stromal fibrosis in both orthotopic and patient‐derived xenograft (PDX) models. More importantly, disruption of SEs by JQ1 treatments promotes vascularization, facilitates drug delivery, and alters the immune landscape in PDAC, thereby improving the efficacies of both chemotherapy (with gemcitabine) and immunotherapy (with IL‐12). In summary, this study not only elucidates the contribution of SEs of a‐PSCs in shaping the PDAC tumor microenvironment but also highlights that targeting SEs in a‐PSCs may become a gate‐opening strategy that benefits PDAC drug therapy by removing stromal barriers.

Fire can significantly affect the structure and function of forest soil microorganisms. Therefore, it is important to study the effects of different fire intensities on soil microbial carbon source utilization capacity in cold-temperate larch forests to protect and utilize forest ecosystems. In this study, we investigated the effects of different burning intensities on the carbon utilization capacity of soil microorganisms in fire sites from 2010 and 2000 using Biolog-Eco technology. Our findings revealed that (1) fire significantly increased soil pH, AN (available nitrogen), and AK (available potassium) (p < 0.05); (2) fire significantly increased the average color change rate (AWCD) of soil microorganisms (p < 0.05); (3) the Shannon index of soil microorganisms increased significantly, whereas the Simpson index and the McIntosh index decreased significantly after the fire—however, the McIntosh index in the 10M site was not altered; (4) the metabolic functions of soil microbial communities differed significantly among different fire intensities—MC (moisture content), TN (total nitrogen), and AK were the most influential soil environmental factors in the soil microbial community; and (5) mid-term fire restoration significantly increased microbial responses to carbohydrates, amino acids, esters, alcohols, amines, and acids, while late-fire burn sites significantly increased the microbial utilization intensity of amino acids, esters, and acids. In conclusion, fire significantly altered the functional diversity of soil microorganisms and microbial activities related to carbon source substrate utilization. Additionally, the ability of microorganisms to utilize a single carbon source substrate was also altered.

In the context of the carbon peak and carbon-neutral era, it is crucial to effectively utilize maize straw as a resource for achieving carbon (C) sequestration and emission reduction in rural agriculture. Maize straw carbon undergoes two processes after being added to the soil: mineralization (decomposition) and humification (synthesis) by soil animals and microorganisms. These processes contribute to the reintegration of carbon into the agroecosystem’s carbon cycle. However, understanding of the transformation and stabilization of straw carbon, as well as the differences in C fixation capacity in soils with various fertilization treatments in black soils, remains limited. This study aims to quantify the relationship between straw carbon input and organic carbon sequestration in various fertilization treatments of black soil. Based on a long-term positional fertilization trial (45 years) in black soil, 13C-labeled maize straw (1.5 g in 120 g of dry soil) was applied and combined with an in situ incubation method using carborundum tubes. Throughout the 360-day trial, we observed the influence of fertilization on soil total organic C levels, organic carbon δ13C values, maize straw addition rate, and straw C fixation capacity. The decomposition of straw was most prominent during the initial 60 days of the incubation period, followed by a gradual decrease in the rate of decomposition. Compared with day 0, the SOC δ13C value and straw C residue rate were highest in the no-fertilization treatment (CK) after 360 days of incubation. The amount of organic carbon transformed and fixed in the soil was significantly higher in the organic fertilizer treatment (M) compared to other treatments, highlighting the stronger decomposition, transformation, and carbon fixation capacity of straw carbon in the M treatment. Moreover, the highest carbon storage of 43.23 Mg·ha−1 was observed in the M fertilization treatment after 360 days, which was significantly different from other treatments (p < 0.05). The study demonstrates that soil with low fertility exhibits increased sequestration potential for straw carbon. Additionally, organic fertilizer input would increase soil organic carbon storage and facilitate straw carbon conversion.

Elevating soil water content (SWC) through irrigation was one of the simple mitigation measures to improve crop resilience to heat stress. The response of leaf function, such as photosynthetic capacity based on chlorophyll fluorescence during the mitigation, has received limited attention, especially in field conditions. A two-year field experiment with three treatments (control treatment (CK), high-temperature treatment (H), and high-temperature together with elevating SWC treatment (HW)) was carried out during grain filling with two maize hybrids at a typical station in North China Plain. Averagely, the net photosynthetic rate (Pn) was improved by 20%, and the canopy temperature decreased by 1–3°C in HW compared with in H in both years. Furthermore, the higher SWC in HW significantly improved the actual photosynthetic rate (Phi2), linear electron flow (LEF), variable fluorescence (Fv), and the maximal potential quantum efficiency (Fv/Fm) for both hybrids. Meanwhile, different responses in chlorophyll fluorescence between hybrids were also observed. The higher SWC in HW significantly improved thylakoid proton conductivity (gH+) and the maximal fluorescence (Fm) for the hybrid ZD958. For the hybrid XY335, the proton conductivity of chloroplast ATP synthase (vH+) and the minimal fluorescence (Fo) was increased by the SWC. The structural equation model (SEM) further showed that SWC had significantly positive relationships with Pn, LEF, and Fv/Fm. The elevating SWC alleviated heat stress with the delayed leaf senescence to prolong the effective period of photosynthesis and enhanced leaf photosynthetic capacity by improving Phi2, LEF, Fv, and Fv/Fm. This research demonstrates that elevating SWC through enhancing leaf photosynthesis during grain filling would be an important mitigation strategy for adapting to the warming climate in maize production.

Ecosystems are frequently disturbed by fires that have an important impact on the soil environment and the composition of soil organisms. In order to provide a baseline for the current research and identify trends on the effects of wildland fire on soil environment and biological changes, the available literature was identified from the Web of Science database, covering the period from 1998/1998/1999 (the year of the earliest publication in this field) to 2023. A bibliometric analysis was performed and the data were visually displayed for the number of publications, countries, authors, research institutions, and keywords representing research hotspots. Specifically, the effects of wildland fire on the soil environment, on soil microorganisms and on soil fauna were analyzed. The results show that the annual number of publications describing effects of wildland fire on the soil environment and on soil microorganisms are increasing over time, while those describing effects on soil fauna are fewer and their number remains constant. The largest number of papers originate from the United States, with the United States Department of Agriculture as the research institution with the largest output. The three authors with the largest number of publications are Stefan H. Doerr, Manuel Esteban Lucas-Borja and Jan Jacob Keizer. The research hotspots, as identified by keywords, are highly concentrated on wildfire, fire, organic matter, and biodiversity, amongst others. This study comprehensively analyzes the current situation of the research on the effects of wildland fire on changes in the soil environment and organisms, and provides reference for relevant scientific researchers in this trend and future research hotspots.

In response to the limited accuracy of current three-dimensional (3D) object detection algorithms for small objects, this paper presents a multi-sensor 3D small object detection method based on LiDAR and a camera. Firstly, the LiDAR point cloud is projected onto the image plane to obtain a depth image. Subsequently, we propose a cascaded image fusion module comprising multi-level pooling layers and multi-level convolution layers. This module extracts features from both the camera image and the depth image, addressing the issue of insufficient depth information in the image feature. Considering the non-uniform distribution characteristics of the LiDAR point cloud, we introduce a multi-scale voxel fusion module composed of three sets of VFE (voxel feature encoder) layers. This module partitions the point cloud into grids of different sizes to improve detection ability for small objects. Finally, the multi-level fused point features are associated with the corresponding scale’s initial voxel features to obtain the fused multi-scale voxel features, and the final detection results are obtained based on this feature. To evaluate the effectiveness of this method, experiments are conducted on the KITTI dataset, achieving a 3D AP (average precision) of 73.81% for the hard level of cars and 48.03% for the hard level of persons. The experimental results demonstrate that this method can effectively achieve 3D detection of small objects.

Rainfall intensity and slope gradient are the main drivers of slope surface runoff and nitrogen loss. To explore the distribution of rainfall runoff and nitrogen loss on the Miyun Reservoir slopes, we used artificial indoor simulated rainfall experiments to determine the distribution characteristics and nitrogen migration paths of surface and subsurface runoff under different rainfall intensities and slope gradients. The initial runoff generation time of subsurface runoff lagged that of surface runoff, and the lag time under different rainfall intensity and slope conditions ranges from 3.97 to 12.62 min. Surface runoff rate increased with increasing rainfall intensity and slope gradient; compared with a rainfall intensity of 40 mm/h, at a slope of 15°, average surface runoff rate at 60 and 80 mm/h increased by 2.38 and 3.60 times, respectively. Meanwhile, the subsurface runoff rate trended upwards with increasing rainfall intensity, in the order 5 > 15 > 10°. It initially increased and then decreased with increasing slope gradient, in the order 5 > 10 > 15°. Total nitrogen (TN) loss concentration of surface runoff shows a decrease followed by a stabilization trend; the concentration of TN loss decreases with decreasing rainfall intensity, and the stabilization time becomes earlier and is most obvious in 5° slope conditions. TN loss concentration in subsurface runoff decreased with increasing rainfall intensity, i.e., 40 > 60 > 80 mm/h. The surface runoff rainfall coefficient was mainly affected by rainfall intensity, a correlation between αs and slope gradients S was not obvious, and the fitting effect was poor. The subsurface runoff rainfall coefficient was mainly affected by slope gradient, the R2 of all rainfall intensities was surface runoff > subsurface runoff. The surface and mixed runoff modulus increased significantly with increasing rain intensity under different rain intensities and slope gradients. Overall, rainfall intensity significantly affected slope surface runoff, and slope gradient significantly affected nitrogen loss.

Abstract Taking abundant and sustainable solar energy as the only energy source, solar‐powered interface evaporation has been regarded as a promising method to alleviate the pressure of freshwater shortage. However, the uptake of clean water from brine is constantly accompanied by evaporation of water and condensation of vapor, which inevitably generates salt solid, preventing further continuous and stable evaporation. The most direct method is to fabricate a photothermal material with salt self‐resistance by using the reflux of salt ions. Here, a superhydrophilic interconnected biomass carbon absorber (SBCA) is prepared by freeze‐drying and carbonization, realizing strong liquid pumping, and self‐blocking salt. In combination with superior broadband light absorption (94.91%), high porosity (95.9%), superhydrophilicity, and excellent thermal localization, an evaporation device with excellent evaporation rate (2.45 kg m−2 h−1 under 1 kW m−2) is successfully proposed. In the meantime, the porous skeleton and rapid water transport can enhance the diffusion of salt ions and slow down the rate of salt deposition. As a result, no salt deposition is found on the SBCA surface after continuous irradiation at 1 kW m−2 for 15 h. The design can provide a convenient and low‐cost efficient strategy for solar steam generators to address clean water acquisition.

Soil erosion results in dissolved organic matter (DOM) loss and is one of the main paths of soil carbon loss. Bacteria affect the generation and transformation of DOM. However, the effect of bacteria on the composition and slope distribution of DOM has rarely been investigated under field conditions. Based on a long-term experiment of three gradients (3°, 5°, 8°) in a black soil erosion area of Northeast China, the content, composition, and source of DOM were studied. The results showed that the DOM of the 3° and 5° slope was enriched midslope, and the DOM of the 8° slope was enriched downslope. Parallel factor (PARAFAC) analysis indicated that the main substances in DOM were fulvic-like acid, humic-like acid, tryptophan-like protein, and soluble microbial metabolites. The upslope and downslope soils of 3° and 5° slopes showed high DOM bioavailability, while the downslope soil of the 8° slope showed high DOM bioavailability. The content of new DOM in downslope soil increased with the gradient. Bacteria played an important role in the synthesis and transformation of DOM and affected its composition and slope distribution. Verrucomicrobiota, Firmicutes, Planctomycetota, and Gemmatimonadota were the main factors affecting soil DOM. The results could be helpful in understanding the loss mechanism of DOM in eroded black soil and provide support for soil carbon sequestration.

The random moderation model (RMM) was developed based on a two-level regression model to cope with heteroscedasticity in moderation analysis, and normal-distributed-based maximum likelihood (NML) estimation was developed to estimate the RMM. To present an alternative to the NML, this article discusses the effectiveness of Bayesian estimation for the RMM, aiming to explore a more practical method using the popular software Mplus. Through a simulation study, the RMM based on Bayesian estimation was investigated and compared to maximum likelihood (ML) estimations, including the NML and the default ML estimation in Mplus. The results indicated that the Bayesian approach outperformed the two ML estimations. It showed (a) higher accuracy for estimation of the effect size of the moderation effect; (b) higher 95% credibility interval coverage of the true value of the moderation effect; and (c) well-controlled and more stable type I error rates, while powers comparable to the ML estimations were provided.

Abstract Background Short-lasting unilateral neuralgiform headache attacks with conjunctival injection and tearing (SUNCT) and short-lasting unilateral neuralgiform headache attacks with cranial autonomic symptoms (SUNA) have not been evaluated sufficiently due to limited data, particularly in China. Methods Patients with SUNCT or SUNA treated in a tertiary headache centre or seven other headache clinics of China between April 2009 and July 2022 were studied; we compared their demographics and clinical phenotypes. Results The 45 patients with SUNCT and 31 patients with SUNA had mean ages at onset of 37.22 ± 14.54 years and 42.45 ± 14.72 years, respectively. The mean ages at diagnosis of SUNCT and SUNA were 41.62 ± 12.70 years and 48.68 ± 13.80 years, respectively (p = 0.024). The correct diagnosis of SUNCT or SUNA was made after an average of 2.5 (0–20.5) years or 3.0 (0–20.7) years, respectively. Both diseases had a female predominance (SUNCT: 1.14:1; SUNA: 2.10:1). The two diseases differed in the most common attack site (temporal area in SUNCT, p = 0.017; parietal area in SUNA, p = 0.002). Qualitative descriptions of the attacks included stabbing pain (44.7%), electric-shock-like pain (36.8%), shooting pain (25.0%), and slashing pain (18.4%). Lacrimation was the most common autonomic symptom in both SUNCT and SUNA patients, while eyelid oedema, ptosis, and miosis were less frequent. Triggers such as cold air and face washing were shared by the two diseases, and they were consistently ipsilateral to the attack site. Conclusions In contrast to Western countries, SUNCT and SUNA in China have a greater female predominance and an earlier onset. The shared core phenotype of SUNCT and SUNA, despite their partial differences, suggests that they are the same clinical entity.

Land degradation due to soil erosion is a major problem in mountainous areas. It is crucially important to understand the law of soil erosion under different land-use patterns with rainfall variability. We studied Qingshuihe Watershed in the Chongli district of the Zhangjiakou area. Four runoff plots, including caragana, corn, apricot trees, and barren grassland, were designed on the typical slopes of Xigou and Donggou locations. The 270 natural rainfall events observed from 2014 to 2016 were used to form a rainfall gradient. The relationship between runoff and sediment yield was analyzed. Results showed that the monthly rainfall of the slope runoff plot in the Chongli mountain area presented the trend of concentrated rainfall in summer, mainly from June to September, accounting for 82.4% of the total rainfall in 2014–2016, which was far higher than that in other months. Starting from April to May every year, the rainfall increased with time, then from July to September, the rainfall decreased gradually, but it was still at the high level of the whole year. Among the four ecosystems, the caragana-field has the best effect on reducing the kinetic energy of rainfall and runoff, which can effectively reduce the runoff and sediment yield of the slope and reduce the intensity of soil erosion. In terms of the total amount of runoff and sediment, the runoff and sediment yield of the caragana-field reduced by 74%–87% and 64%–86% compared with that of the grassland. Comparing different land-use types, the caragana plantation would be conducive to conserving soil and water resources.

Objective To investigate the effects of inhibiting the activation of platelet-derived growth factor receptor (PDGFR) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) on early brain damage (EBI) after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), and explore their possible acting mechanism in the process. Methods Adult male SD rats were randomly divided into sham operation group, SAH group, PDGF receptor inhibition group and ROS inhibition group, with 12 rats in each group. The rat model of SAH was established by intravascular puncture. In 1 h later, the rats in the treatment groups were injected with corresponding drugs by intraperitoneal injection. At 24 and 48 h after operation, animal mortality and body weight changes were observed, brain dysfunction was evaluated with neurobehavioral assessment, and brain water content was measured to evaluate blood-brain barrier permeability. Western blot analysis was used to detect the changes of PDGFR and phosphorylated PDGFR and the expression of p-JNK and p-MMP-9 after SAH. The oxidation products of lipids and proteins, malondialdehyde (MDA) and ROS were also detected. Results Both inhibiting the activation of PDGFR and scavenging ROS reduced brain water content after SAH (P < 0.05), decreased the expression of MMP-9 (P < 0.05), improved the neurological function score (P < 0.05), reduced the production of ROS and MDA (P < 0.05), and decreased the phosphorylation of JNK and c-Jun. Inhibiting the generation of ROS suppressed the activation of PDGFR to a certain extent, and inhibiting the activation of PDGFR also reduced the generation of ROS to a certain extent (P < 0.05). Conclusion After SAH in rats, ROS is involved in the activation of PDGFR, and its activation can further aggravate free radical damage. The JNK-MMP-9 pathway is indeed an important pathway that causes blood-brain barrier disruption in EBI.

Some species of Carex can form tussocks, which are usually distributed in valleys and flood plains. The soil microbial community diversity and function of micro–habitats formed by tussocks are associated with plant diversity, and research on these associations can guide Carex tussock wetland restoration. In this study, we selected tussock wetlands dominated by Carex appendiculata, including natural wetlands (NW), artificially restored wetlands (ARW), and naturally restored wetlands (NRW), and investigated plant diversity. Soil samples were collected from the quadrats of each sample plot with the maximum (ma), median (me), and minimum (mi) plant Shannon index values, and high-throughput sequencing was used to analyze the bacterial community composition, diversity, and functions. The plant diversity indexes of neither ARW nor NRW significantly differed from that of NW, but the companion species in NRW were hygrophytes and mesophytes, in contrast to only hygrophytes serving as companion species in NW and ARW. Aiming at the problem of poor detection performance under the environment of imbalanced type distribution, an intrusion detection model of genetic algorithm to optimize weighted extreme learning machine based on stratified cross-validation (SCV-GA-WELM) is proposed. In order to solve the problem of imbalanced data types in cross-validation subsets, SCV is used to ensure that the data distribution in all subsets is consistent, thus avoiding model over-fitting. The traditional fitness function cannot solve the problem of small sample classification well. By designing a weighted fitness function and giving high weight to small sample data, the performance of the model can be effectively improved in the environment of imbalanced type distribution. The experimental results show that this model is superior to other intrusion detection models in recall and McNemar hypothesis test. In addition, the recall of the model for small sample data is higher, reaching 91.5% and 95.1%, respectively. This shows that it can effectively detect intrusions in an environment with imbalanced type distribution. Therefore, the model has practical application value in the field of intrusion detection, and can be used to improve the performance of intrusion detection systems in the actual environment. This method has a wide application prospect, such as network security, industrial control system, and power system.

Objective To explore whether the abnormality of ambulatory electroencephalogram (AEEG) prior to postoperative drug withdrawal is related to the recurrence of epilepsy after drug discontinuation in patients with glioma related epilepsy (GRE). Methods The clinical data and AEEG of 68 GRE patients who underwent surgical treatment in our hospital with long-term follow-up from January 2014 to June 2020 were collected and retrospectively analyzed. The patients were subsequently divided into seizure group (seizure recurrence after withdrawal of antiepileptic drugs, n=31) and control group (no seizure after withdrawal, n=37). The differences in the occurrence rate and number of spike waves and paroxysmal slow wave events (PSWEs) were analyzed and compared between the 2 groups. The factors affecting the prognosis of epilepsy were discussed through analyzing the data of 47 patients who presented epileptic discharge on AEEG before drug discontinuation. Results ① In the seizure group, 29 patients (93.5%) had epileptic discharges on AEEG before drug withdrawal and 11 (35.5%) showed PSWEs, while there were only 18 (48.6%) and 5 (13.5%) patients correspondingly in the control group, indicating a significant difference in the occurrence rate between the 2 groups (P < 0.05). ② The number of spike and slow waves was significantly larger in the seizure group than the control group. In the seizure group, medium to large number of spike waves (25/29, 86.2%) as well as large number of paroxysmal slow waves (8/11, 72.7%) were predominant, whereas the control group mainly had small amount of spike waves (14/18, 77.8%) and small to medium amount of paroxysmal slow waves (4/5, 80.0%). ③ With epileptic discharge of AEEG, the extent of tumor removal and involvement of cortex were related to the epilepsy prognosis (P < 0.05). Conclusion When the tumor is sub-radical resected or the tumor involves the cortex, and the pre-discontinuation AEEG shows moderate to large number of epileptic discharge and PSWEs, it is necessary to consider suspending drug withdrawal and extending the interval between seizures to reduce the risk of seizure recurrence.

Abstract Background Anti‐gamma aminobutyric acid B receptor (anti‐GABABR) encephalitis is a rare autoimmune neurological syndrome observed in lung cancer patients. More research on the clinical characteristics of small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and anti‐GABABR encephalitis should be carried out to improve diagnosis and treatment. Methods We retrospectively investigated the clinical characteristics, auxiliary examination results, and treatment responses in patients with SCLC and anti‐GABABR encephalitis at Beijing Chaoyang Hospital from January 2010 to December 2020. The study also retrospectively analyzed cases of SCLC and anti‐GABABR encephalitis well documented in China. Results A total of 60 cases of SCLC and anti‐GABABR encephalitis were analyzed in the study, two in our hospital, and 58 previously reported in the literature. The male:female ratio was 3:1, with a median age at presentation of 61 years (range: 40–81 years). Twenty‐eight patients initially presented with seizures, four with cognitive disorder, and three with psychiatric symptoms. The major symptoms were epileptic seizures (n = 56; 96.9%), cognitive impairment (n = 47; 81.0%), psychiatric disorders (n = 45; 77.6%), and conscious disturbance (n = 32; 55.2%). Fifty‐five patients underwent immunotherapy, and 23 patients underwent oncologic treatment in the literature. After a median follow‐up duration of 8.8 (range, 0.5–37.0) months, nine patients showed good outcomes (modified Rankin Scale score, mRS ≤2), eight patients showed poor prognosis (mRS > 2), and 18 patients died. Conclusions The clinical characteristics of SCLC and anti‐GABABR encephalitis are seizures, cognitive impairment, and psychiatric disorders which affect middle‐aged to elderly men in China. The long‐term prognosis is relatively poor.

Abstract Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is a serious threat to human health worldwide, while its heterogeneity limits therapeutic success and leads to poor survival outcomes. Single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq) is an important technology, which provides deep insights into the genetic characteristics of carcinoma. In this study, we profiled the gene expression of single cells from human ccRCC tissues and adjacent normal tissues using the scRNA-seq. We found that MYH9 was commonly upregulated in the ccRCC cell subgroup. Additionally, MYH9 was of highly expression in ccRCC tissues and predicted poor prognosis of ccRCC patients. MYH9 knockdown in ccRCC cells dampened their proliferative and metastatic potentials, whereas MYH9 overexpression enhanced these properties. In vivo, MYH9 also promoted ccRCC growth. Mechanistic studies showed that MYH9 played these vital roles through AKT signaling pathway. Furthermore, MYH9/AKT axis determined the responses of ccRCC cells to sunitinib treatment and might serve as a biomarker for sunitinib benefits in ccRCC patients. Thus, MYH9 might be a novel therapeutic target and prognostic predictor for ccRCC.

Rational cropping maintains high soil fertility and a healthy ecosystem. Soil microorganism is the controller of soil fertility. Meanwhile, soil microbial communities also respond to different cropping patterns. The mechanisms by which biotic and abiotic factors were affected by different cropping sequences remain unclear in the major grain-producing regions of northeastern China. To evaluate the effects of different cropping sequences under conventional fertilization practices on soil properties, microbial communities, and crop yield, six types of plant cropping systems were performed, including soybean monoculture, wheat-soybean rotation, wheat-maize-soybean rotation, soybean-maize-maize rotation, maize-soybean-soybean rotation and maize monoculture. Our results showed that compared with the single cropping system, soybean and maize crop rotation in different combinations or sequences can increase soil total organic carbon and nutrients, and promote soybean and maize yield, especially using soybean-maize-maize and maize-soybean-soybean planting system. The 16S rRNA and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) amplicon sequencing showed that different cropping systems had different effects on bacterial and fungal communities. The bacterial and fungal communities of soybean monoculture were less diverse when compared to the other crop rotation planting system. Among the different cropping sequences, the number of observed bacterial species was greater in soybean-maize-maize planting setup and fungal species in maize-soybean-soybean planting setup. Some dominant and functional bacterial and fungal taxa in the rotation soils were observed. Network-based analysis suggests that bacterial phyla Acidobacteria and Actinobacteria while fungal phylum Ascomycota showed a positive correlation with other microbial communities. The phylogenetic investigation of communities by reconstruction of unobserved states (PICRUSt) result showed the presence of various metabolic pathways. Besides, the soybean-maize-maize significantly increased the proportion of some beneficial microorganisms in the soil and reduced the soil-borne animal and plant pathogens. These results warrant further investigation into the mechanisms driving responses of beneficial microbial communities and their capacity on improving soil fertility during legume cropping. The present study extends our understanding of how different crop rotations effect soil parameters, microbial diversity, and metabolic functions, and reveals the importance of crop rotation sequences. These findings could be used to guide decision-making from the microbial perspective for annual crop planting and soil management approaches.

Background: Duzhong [DZ (Eucommia ulmoides Oliv.)] is regarded as a traditional Chinese medicine with a history dating back more than 2000 years. This herb is considered a nourishing herb in China and is commonly used as a tonic to strengthen muscles and bones, nourish the kidneys and liver, and soothe miscarriages. Moreover, there is evidence that DZ is capable of regulating blood pressure (BP), and several compounds isolated from DZ have been shown to have a BP-lowering effect. Quanduzhong capsules contain an extract of DZ [Eucommia ulmoides Oliv. (Eucommiaceae; Eucommiae cortex)] that is effective in treating hypertension. This multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial sought to evaluate the clinical efficacy of Quanduzhong capsules in the treatment of low-to-moderate risk grade 1 hypertension patients.Materials and methods: A total of 60 patients from 3 centers with documented low-to-moderate risk grade 1 hypertension were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to the test group or the control group. After a 1 week lead-in period using sham Quanduzhong capsules, all patients who met the entry criteria (29 cases in the test group and 29 cases in the control group) entered the 4 week test period. The test group took Quanduzhong capsules, and the control group continued to take sham Quanduzhong capsules. The primary endpoints [24-h mean systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) determined via 24-h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM); office SBP and DBP] and secondary endpoints [mean arterial pressure; mean pulse; daytime mean SBP and DBP; nocturnal mean SBP and DBP; SBP and DBP load; area under the blood pressure (BP) curve; morning peak BP; early morning SBP and DBP; smoothness index of SBP and DBP; 24 h BP mean coefficient of variation (CV); percentage of patients with circadian restoration in ABPM; home BP; quality of life evaluated by WHO Quality of Life-BREF questionnaire; grading and quantitative evaluation of hypertension symptoms; values of plasmatic renin activity, angiotensin II, aldosterone, β-2 microglobulin and homocysteine] were assessed following the treatment. Drug-related adverse events and adverse drug reactions were also compared.Results: After a 4 week test period, a significant difference in the DBP CV between the two groups was observed (−2.49 ± 4.32 vs. 0.76 ± 4.3; p < .05). Moreover, the mean office SBP change was −7.62 ± 9.32 mmHg, and the mean DBP change was −4.66 ± 6.03 (p < .05). Among the three subjects with abnormal homocysteine levels in the test group, homocysteine levels decreased by 6.23 ± 9.15 μmol/L after treatment. No differences were observed between the two groups in any other indicators. After 4 weeks of treatment, there were no significant differences between the groups in terms of safety indicators (p > .05). No abnormal vital signs (except BP) or severe liver or renal function impairment were observed during the treatment periods; in addition, adverse events and drug reactions were mild.Conclusion: Treatment with Quanduzhong capsules reduced office SBP and DBP as well as DBP CV determined by 24-h ambulatory BP monitoring in patients with grade 1 hypertension at low-to-moderate risk.Clinical Trial Registration:https://www.chictr.org.cn/showproj.aspx?proj=32531, identifier ChiCTR1900021699.

In agroecosystems, different cropping patterns cause changes in soil physicochemical properties and thus in microbial communities, which in turn affect crop yields. In this study, the yields of soybean continuous cropping for 5 years (C5), 10 years (C10), and 20 years (C20) and of soybean-corn rotational cropping (R) treatments were determined, and samples of the tillage layer soil were collected. High-throughput sequencing technology was used to analyze the diversity and composition of the soil bacterial and fungal communities. The factors influencing microbial communities, along with the effects of these communities and those of soil chemical indexes on yield, were further evaluated. The results showed that the community richness index of bacteria was higher in C20 than in R and that of fungi was highest in C5. The differences in the bacterial and fungal communities diversity indexes were not significant among the different continuous cropping treatments, respectively. The soil microbial community composition of all continuous cropping treatments differed significantly from R. The dominant bacterial phylum was Actinobacteriota and the dominant fungal phylum was Ascomycota. The relative abundance of Fusarium did not differ significantly among the continuous cropping treatments, while that of the plant pathogen fungi Lectera sp., Plectosphaerella sp., and Volutella sp. increased with continuous cropping years. Soil pH, SOM, N, and TP had significant effects on both bacterial and fungal communities, and TK and C/N had highly significant effects on fungal communities. The yield of C5 was significantly lower than that of R, and the differences in yield between C10, C20, and R were not significant. TN, TP, and pH had significant effects on yield, and fungal community abundance had a greater negative effect on yield than bacterial community abundance.

BackgroundExperimental and clinical evidence has demonstrated a pivotal role of inflammation in the pathogenesis of ischemic heart disease, and targeting inflammation has been shown to provide clinical benefits for patients with coronary disease. Endothelial cells constitute the majority of non-cardiomyocytes in the heart. Endothelial pro-inflammatory activation is recognized as a critical component in the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease. The dried flowers of Edgeworthia gardneri (Wall.) Meisn. (EG) have been widely used as Tibetan folk medicine to ameliorate a range of metabolic disorders, such as diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and obesity. However, its role in modulating endothelial inflammation and ischemic heart disease has not been evaluated.Methods and resultsHerein, using a preclinical rat model of coronary artery ligation-induced myocardial infarction (MI), we demonstrated that systemic administration of EG extract (EEEG) attenuated ischemic cardiac injury. EEEG reduced myocardial infarct size, improved cardiac function, and ameliorated adverse cardiac remodeling. Moreover, the cardioprotective effects of EEEG were associated with decreased MI-induced myocardial inflammation. Consistent with the anti-inflammatory role of EEEG in vivo, EEEG attenuated TNF-α-stimulated human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) activation and monocyte-endothelial cell firm adhesion in vitro. Mechanistically, our data showed that EEEG’s mode of action suppresses the activation of NF-κB, ERK, and p38 MAPK signaling pathways in ECs. Importantly, we demonstrated that EEEG inhibits endothelial inflammation in an NF-κB- and p38 MAPK-dependent manner using pharmacological inhibitors.ConclusionCollectively, this study identified EG as a potential therapeutic agent in attenuating endothelial inflammation and managing ischemic cardiovascular disease.

In order to develop a fluorometric aptamer-based biosensor for ultrasensitive and selective detection of phoxim, a modified magnetic beads-systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (MB-SELEX) method was used in this study to select phoxim aptamer. An aptamer (APT3) that bonded to phoxim with high affinity was obtained after 15 rounds of selection, which had dissociation constant (Kd) of 0.93 ​± ​0.25 ​μM. A fluorometric aptasensor was then developed and enhanced the sensitivity and selectivity of phoxim detection based on APT3, multi-complementary strands (CS) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). This method had a good linear range of 0.05–5 ​μM, and detection limit was as low as 29.69 ​nM for phoxim. In addition, the aptasensing specifically captured phoxim in a variety of pesticides and real samples. The herein results proved that the method can be applied in practical detection.

Understanding the effects of land use/cover change (LUCC) on regional climate is critical for achieving land use system sustainability and global climate change mitigation. However, the quantitative analysis of the contribution of LUCC to the changes of climatic factors, such as precipitation & temperature (P&T), is lacking. In this study, we combined statistical methods and the gravity center model simulation to quantify the effects of long-term LUCC on P&T in the Songnen Plain (SNP) of Northeast China from 1980–2018. The results showed the spatiotemporal variability of LUCC. For example, paddy field had the largest increase (15 166.43 km2) in the SNP, followed by dry land, while wetland had the largest decrease (19 977.13 km2) due to the excessive agricultural utilization and development. Annual average precipitation decreased at a rate of –9.89 mm per decade, and the warming trends were statistically significant with an increasing rate of 0.256°C per decade in this region since 1980. The model simulation revealed that paddy field, forestland, and wetland had positive effects on precipitation, which caused their gravity centers to migrate towards the same direction accompanied by the center of precipitation gravity, while different responses were seen for building land, dry land and unused land. These results indicated that forestland had the largest influence on the increase of precipitation compared with the other land use types. The responses in promoting the temperature increase differed significantly, being the highest in building land, and the lowest in forestland. In general, the analysis of regional-scale LUCC showed a significant reduction of wetland, and the increases in building land and cropland contributed to a continuous drying and rapid warming in the SNP.

Abstract. Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive malignancies. The poor prognosis of pancreatic cancer patients is mainly attributed to low diagnostic rate at the early stage, highly aggressive nature coupled with the inadequate efficacy of current chemotherapeutic regimens. Novel therapeutic strategies are urgently needed for pancreatic cancer. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play an important regulatory role in key processes of cancer development. The aberrant expression of miRNAs is often involved in the initiation, progression, and metastasis of pancreatic cancer. The discovery of tumor suppressor miRNAs provides prospects for the development of a novel treatment strategy for pancreatic cancer. We reviewed recent progress on the understanding of the role of miRNAs in pancreatic cancer, highlighted the efficient application of miRNAs-based therapies for pancreatic cancer in animal models and clinical trials, and proposed future prospects. This review focuses on the promise of integrating miRNAs into the treatment of pancreatic cancer and provides guidance for the development of precision medicine for pancreatic cancer.

A highly sensitive unlabeled electrochemical aptasensor based on hydroxylated black phosphorus/poly-L-lysine (hBP/PLL) composite is introduced herein for the detection of malathion. Poly-L-lysine (PLL) with adhesion and coating properties adhere to the surface of the nanosheets by noncovalent interactions with underlying hydroxylated black phosphorus nanosheets (hBP) to produce the hBP/PLL composite. The as-synthesized hBP/PLL composite bonded to Au nanoparticles (Au NPs) firmly by assembling and using them as a substrate for the aptamer with high specificity as a probe to fabricate the sensor. Under optimal conditions, the linear range of the electrochemical aptasensor was 0.1 pM~1 μM, and the detection limit was 2.805 fM. The electrochemical aptasensor has great selectivity, a low detection limit, and anti-interference, which has potential application prospects in the field of rapid trace detection of pesticide residues.

Excessive, long-term chemical fertilizer application adversely affects soil quality and maize yield. The combined application of biochar with chemical fertilizer can increase maize yield and improve soil fertility. A four-year field experiment was conducted to determine soil physio-biochemical properties and maize yield under a soybean–maize rotation in the black soils of Northeast China. There were five treatments, including no fertilization (CK), fertilizer (NPK), fertilizer + biochar (15.75 t·hm−2, BC1), fertilizer + biochar (31.50 t·hm−2, BC2), and fertilizer + biochar (47.25 t·hm−2, BC3). Compared with CK, the number of macroaggregates and the average weight diameter of soil aggregates in BC2 treatment increased significantly by 10.3% and 24.5%, respectively. The soil pH in the study area was 7.03, and it increased in all treatments except for BC1. The highest pH of 7.17 was recorded in NPK and BC2 treatments, which was around the optimal soil pH. In contrast to the CK and NPK treatments, the biochar application increased soil organic carbon (SOC) and total nitrogen (TN) content. The BC2 treatment improved soil C/N and increased the copy number of soil bacteria by 25.6% compared to CK. The combined application of chemical fertilizer and biochar was better than NPK treatment alone, and improved soil mechanical composition and fine soil particle contents (powder and clay). Mixed biochar with chemical fertilizer application also significantly increased maize yield and the weight of 100 grains increased from 9.5% to 10.9% compared to CK. The maize yield of the three fertilizer and biochar treatments was higher than treatments with applied chemical fertilizer alone, in the order of BC2 > BC3 > BC1 > NPK > CK (BC2 treatment increased by 34.8%). Additionally, the maize yield was significantly and positively correlated with soil aggregates, organic carbon and total nitrogen (p < 0.05) as well as the 100-grain weight (p < 0.01). The application of 31.50 t·hm−2 (BC2 treatment) of biochar can enhance soil physicochemical properties and improve maize yield.

Begonia pseudoedulis, a new species in Begonia sect. Platycentrum (Klotzsch) A.DC. (Begoniaceae) from southern Guangxi of China, is here described and illustrated. It morphologically resembles B. edulis H.Lév. and B. dielsiana E.Pritz. ex Diels but differs easily by its hairy petioles and inflorescences, and red hispidulous flower tepals, ovary and capsules. The molecular phylogenetic analysis based on ITS supported that the new species was a monophyletic lineage, separating from both B. dielsiana and B. edulis. Due to its isolated distribution with several small populations, which are possibly disturbed by human activities, the species is considered as “Near Threatened” (NT) according to the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria.

Feed has the greatest impact on the carbon footprint of the aquaculture, and also determines the water quality in aquaculture to a great extent. Making appropriate feeding control strategies is one of the most effective ways to promote cleaner production as well as fish welfare in aquaculture. Reliable and accurate fish appetite grading especially based on time-limited data is a prerequisite for achieving high-precision and reasonable feeding control in practical production. To date, however, few efforts have been done on this challenge. For these, regarding Micropterus salmoides as the experimental fish, a novel and practical method, based on a modified kinetic energy feature-based graph convolutional network (GCN), was developed in this study. First, graphs were constructed based on the extracted modified kinetic energy features and their temporal correlation. Then, with the help of a series of the convolution and global pooling operations, a GCN model was customized based on the constructed graphs. Following this, the customized GCN model was enriched by the self-attention pooling mechanism and customized network structure. Results show that the proposed GCN-based approach outperforms other typical state-of-the-art methods in fish appetite grading, and the grading accuracy obtained here could be 98.60% using only the first 4.2 seconds as well as the first 8.3 seconds of input data, which is not much different from that (98.89%) using full-length (25 second-long) input data. What’s more, compared to the recurrent neural network (RNN)-based method which performance is closest to our method, the space complexity of the proposed approach here can better satisfy the requirements of real aquaculture, in which the quantity of the trainable parameters here is only 6.4% ~ 31.8% of the RNN-based method. In summary, the proposed modified kinetic energy feature-based GCN approach is favorable for the appetite grading of fish like Micropterus salmoides with time-limited data, which is a promising approach in dealing with feeding control tasks and alleviating the water environmental burden in aquaculture.

Objective To investigate the value of high-gamma oscillations (65~100 Hz) in epileptogenic foci localization by analyzing the intraoperative electrocorticography (ECoG) in patients with refractory temporal lobe epilepsy, along with comparing the occurrence rate and distribution characteristics of high-gamma activity as well as spike wave inside and outside the irritative zone and around the foci. Methods A retrospective analysis was carried out on the intraoperative ECoG data of 21 patients with refractory temporal lobe epilepsy in our hospital from January 2013 to January 2019. The channels with interictal epileptiform discharges (IEDs) were defined as irritated area, and those without IEDs as non-irritated area. Based on the preoperative imaging data, intraoperative navigation combined with neurosurgeon's judgment, the monitoring cortical area was divided into focal area, perifocal area and the area away from the focus. Then the occurrence rate and distribution characteristics of IEDs (filter range: 1~30 Hz) and high-gamma were compared, and the distribution of high-gamma activity inside and outside the irritated area, and the incidence of high-gamma around the foci were analyzed. Results ① The overall incidence of IEDs and of high-gamma in the 21 patients were both 100.0% (21/21), and the average number of channels for IEDs, high-gamma and gamma+IEDs was 9.50±2.80, 8.14±2.93 and 6.60±2.40, respectively, indicating notably more IEDs channels than the other 2, by RM one-way ANOVA (P < 0.05). ②The channel numbers of high-gamma were 6.60±2.40 and 1.50±1.30 in the irritated and non-irritated areas respectively, and the event rates were 0.42±0.30 and 0.20±0.20 respectively, showing significant difference between the 2 areas (P < 0.01). ③The event numbers of high-gamma activity were 46.00±42.00, 33.40±32.90 and 8.40±9.40 in the focal area, the perifocal area and the area away from the focus, respectively, with the corresponding event rate of 0.40±0.30, 0.37±0.38 and 0.10±0.10, respectively. There were no significant differences in the event numbers and rates between the focal and perifocal area, though they were both significantly higher than that of the area away from the focus, by paired t-test (P < 0.05). Conclusion Traditional IEDs of ECoG are still an important marker to guide the range of resection intra-operatively in epilepsy surgery, while high-gamma presents great consistency with both IEDs and foci, with more accurate identification of epileptogenic zone than IEDs. Therefore, IEDs combined with high-gamma may have greater value in the localization of epileptogenic zone.

Bauhinia variegata petals are colorful, rich in anthocyanins, and have ornamental, nutritional, and medicinal value. However, the regulatory mechanism of anthocyanin accumulation in B. variegata remains unclear. In this study, a combined analysis of the metabolome and transcriptome was performed in red and white B. variegata cultivars in the early, middle, and blooming stages. A total of 46 different anthocyanins were identified, of which 27 showed marked differences in accumulation between the two cultivars, and contribute to their different petal colors. Malvidin 3-O-galactoside, peonidin 3-O-galactoside, cyanidin 3-O-glucoside, cyanidin 3-O-galactoside, and malvidin 3-O-glucoside were much more abundant in the second stage of flowering. In the blooming stage, except for the anthocyanins mentioned, delphinidin 3-O-galactoside and petunidin 3-O-galactoside were the most abundant anthocyanins in the red flowers, indicating that malvidin, peonidin, cyanidin, delphinidin, and petunidin were all responsible for the red color of petals in B. variegata. RNA sequencing identified 2,431 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), of which 26 were involved in the anthocyanin synthesis pathway. Correlations between the anthocyanin biosynthesis-related DEGs and anthocyanin contents were explored, and the DEGs involved in anthocyanin accumulation in B. variegata petals were identified. Eighteen of these DEGs encoded key catalytic enzymes, such as anthocyanidin reductase (ANR) and flavonoid-3′5′-hydroxylase (F3′5′H), and 17 of them encoded transcription factors (TFs) belonging to 14 families (including MYB, NAC, SPL, ERF, and CHR28). These results improve our understanding of the roles of anthocyanins, catalytic enzymes, and TFs in B. variegata petal-color expression.

Three covalent organic polymers (COPs) were successfully fabricated by room-temperature solvent-free mechanochemical grinding method between 1,3,5-triformylphloroglucinol (TP) and p-phenyl enediamine (COP1), benzidine (COP2), 4, 4″-diamino-p-terphenyl (COP3), and followed by coprecipitation on the surface of Fe3O4 nanoparticles to form three corresponding magnetic Tp-series COPs. The fabricated magnetic COPs were evaluated and then applied for the extraction of phthalate esters from food samples before gas chromatography-tandem spectrometry analysis. Magnetic COP2 exhibited the highest extraction efficiency, which can be attributed to its larger pore size, and its strong hydrophobic and π-π interactions with phthalate esters. The method possessed good linearity (10–1000 μg·kg−1), high sensitivity (0.29–2.59 µg·kg−1 for LODs and 0.97–8.63 µg·kg−1 for LOQs), and satisfactory recoveries (70.2–108.1%) with relative standard deviations lower than 5.2%. This method has potentials for high efficient separation/preconcentration of hydrophobic phthalate esters from foods.

Surface flow (SF) and subsurface flow (SSF) are important hydrological processes occurring on slopes, and are driven by two main factors: rainfall intensity and slope gradient. To explore nitrogen (N) migration and loss from sloping farmland in the Miyun Reservoir, the characteristics of total nitrogen (TN) migration and loss via SF and SSF under different rainfall intensities (30, 40, 50, 60, 70, and 80 mm/h) and slope gradients (5°, 10°, and 15°) were studied using indoor stimulated rainfall tests and mathematical models. Nitrogen loss via SF and SSF was found to increase exponentially and linearly with time, respectively, with SSF showing 14–78 times higher loss than SF. Under different rainfall intensities, SSF generally had larger TN loss loading than SF, thereby indicating that SSF was the main route for TN loss. However, the TN loss loading proportion via SF increasing from 14.03% to 35.82% with increasing rainfall intensity is noteworthy. Furthermore, compared with the measurement data, the precision evaluation index Nash-Suttcliffe efficient (NSE) and the determination coefficient (R2) of the effective mixing depth model in the numerical simulation of TN loss through SF in the sloping farmland in the Miyun Reservoir were 0.74 and 0.831, respectively, whereas those of the convection-dispersion equation for SSF were 0.81 and 0.811, respectively, thus indicating good simulation results. Therefore, this paper provides a reference for studying the mechanism of N migration and loss in sloping farmland in the Miyun Reservoir.

Abstract Elucidating the chemical structure of soil organic matter (SOM) is important for accurately evaluating the stability and function of SOM. Aboveground vegetation directly affects the quantity and quality of exogenous organic matter input into the soil through plant residues and root exudates, which in turn affects soil microbial species, community structure, and activity, and ultimately impacts the chemical structure of SOM. In this study, a 13C nuclear magnetic resonance technique was used to analyze the chemical structure characteristics of soil organic carbon (SOC) under various rates of straw returning combined with rotary tillage and under full straw mulching. The results showed that full straw returning with rotary tillage and full straw mulching more effectively increased the SOC content than reduced rate of straw returning (1/2 and 1/3 of full straw) with rotary tillage. The contents of alkyl C and alkoxy C in the functional groups of SOC under various straw returning treatments were increased compared with those under the treatment of maize stubble remaining in soil (CK). Furthermore, the contents of aromatic C and carboxyl C were decreased, which were consistent with the chemical shift changes of SOC. Compared with CK treatment, straw returning decreased the content of aromatic C in the functional groups of SOC, but increased the content of alkoxy C, which could be associated with the change in integral areas of absorption peaks of alkyl C and alkoxy C moving toward left and right, respectively. Solar selective absorbers (SSAs) possess high sunlight absorption (300–2500 nm) and low infrared thermal radiative losses (2.5–25 μm), which are undoubtedly the best choice for photothermal conversion process, and SSAs have been widely used in concentrating solar power, solar water heating, and solar drying. Recently, to promote the realization of “double carbon” goal, SSAs have received widespread attentions, many emerging sustainable applications have been developed. In this review, the recent developments of SSAs and their latest sustainable applications in solar‐driven seawater desalination, multistage solar desalination, atmospheric water harvesting (AWH), wastewater treatment, solar thermophotovoltaics (STPVs), hybrid photovoltaic‐thermal (HPVT), solar‐thermoelectric generators (STEG), personal thermal management (PTM), photothermal catalysis, photothermal deicing, and photothermal sterilization, etc. are systematically summarized. Also, the challenges as well as future opportunities of SSAs are discussion. It is expected that this review will effectively complement the published comments on SSAs and provide more inspirations on sustainable applications of SSAs in the future.

A 56-day culture experiment followed by an acute low salinity challenge was conducted to evaluate the effects of Rhodobacter sphaeroides protein (RSP) substitution of fishmeal and Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) supplementation on growth performance, intestinal microbiota and compressive capacity of Litopenaeus vannamei (L. vannamei). Four experimental diets were formulated: FM diet (20% fishmeal), RSP diet (20% RSP instead of 20% fishmeal), CoQ10 diet (20% fishmeal supplemented with CoQ10 at 0.08 g kg–1), RSP + CoQ10 diet (20% RSP supplemented with CoQ10 at 0.08 g kg–1). The obtained results were denoted that L. vannamei fed CoQ10 diet could improve growth performance (weigh gain and specific growth rate), condition factor and crude lipid, and decrease hepatosomatic index, but no differences were found in survival rates. High throughput sequencing on intestinal microbiota indicated that intestinal microbiota of L. vannamei consisted mainly of Proteobacteria and Firmicutes. The species richness of the RSP diet was remarkably higher than that of the other diets. Moreover, the presence of RSP and CoQ10 may improve intestinal homeostasis by inhibiting the propagation of Vibrio. Compared to FM diet and RSP diet, supplementation of CoQ10 significantly improved the compressive capacity of L. vannamei against the acute low salinity challenge, as indicated by higher survival rates as well as higher activities of T-AOC and higher transcript levels of SOD, HSP70, and Relish gene. Our findings demonstrated that RSP could serve as a novel FM and CoQ10 could serve as a prospective feed additive to help L. vannamei to overcome environmental stresses.

Objective To assess the long‐term clinical efficacy of TiRobot‐assisted percutaneous cannulated screw fixation in the treatment of femoral neck fractures. Methods This retrospective study included 50 patients with unilateral femoral neck fractures who were treated with TiRobot‐assisted percutaneous cannulated screw fixation from September 2017 to May 2018. After at least 2 years of follow‐up, the results of treatment, including operation duration, frequency of fluoroscopy use, intraoperative bleeding, hospital stay, medical expense, screw placement accuracy, rate of fracture healing and necrosis of the femoral head, and Harris hip scores at the last follow up, were recorded and compared with those of 83 matched patients who underwent conventional manual positioning surgery. Results The TiRobot group had longer operation duration (83.3 ± 31.2 min vs 44.1 ± 14.8 min) and higher medical expenses (28,407.1 ± 7498.0 yuan vs 22,672.3 ± 4130.3 yuan) than the conventional group. The TiRobot group had significantly less intraoperative bleeding (11.3 ± 7.3 mL vs 51.6 ± 40.4 mL) and shorter hospital stay (8.6 ± 2.8 days vs 11.1 ± 3.41 days) than the conventional group. Screw parallelism (1.32° ± 1.85° vs 2.54° ± 2.99° on anteroposterior radiograph; 1.42° ± 2.25° vs 3.09° ± 3.63° on lateral radiograph) and distance between screws (58.44 ± 10.52 mm vs 39.69 ± 12.17 mm) were significantly improved. No significant difference was found between the two groups in terms of the use of fluoroscopy (40.1 ± 28.5 times vs 38.6 ± 21.0 times) and Harris hip scores at the last follow‐up (93.2 ± 10.3 points vs 88.4 ± 11.9 points). Two cannulated screws penetrated the femoral head during manual insertion in the conventional group but not in the TiRobot group. The rate of nonunion and necrosis of the femoral head in the TiRobot group was reduced compared with that in the conventional group (0 vs 7.2%; 6.0% vs 24.1%). Conclusion TiRobot‐assisted percutaneous cannulated screw fixation of femoral neck fractures is accurate and minimally invasive and helps in reducing late complications, particularly necrosis of the femoral head and nonunion of fractures.

How to extract discriminative features from redundant video information is a key issue for video pedestrian re-identification. Factors such as occlusion, perspective, and posture changes in complex environments pose severe challenges to pedestrian re-identification based on local methods. In this paper, a posture-guided multi-scale structural relationship learning pedestrian re-identification method is proposed. The purpose is to analyze the video sequence of pedestrians based on the reference pose and the pose alignment model, and extract the sample frame with the highest image quality and the most complete spatial information in the reference pose. The method based on posture guidance can more accurately eliminate the interference of background, occlusion and perspective factors. To further explore the potential relationship between local regions, this paper calculates the relationship matrix between the local regions based on the relationship model to further calculate the relationship weight, and the graph convolutional network based on the relationship weight learns the structural relationship feature of multi-scale regions. The input of the graph convolutional network is a local region divided by a multi-scale method, and the output is a pose-guided multi-scale structural relationship feature. The experimental results on three public datasets show that the proposed method performs favorably against state-of-the-art methods.

With the availability of high-speed Internet and the advent of Internet of Things devices, modern software systems are growing in both size and complexity. Software defect prediction (SDP) guarantees the high quality of such complex systems. However, the characteristics of imbalanced distribution of defect data sets have led to the deviation and loss of accuracy of most software defect prediction methods. This paper presents two novel approaches for learning from imbalanced data sets to produce a higher predictive accuracy over the minority class. These two methods differ in whether the oversampling and the misclassification cost information are utilized during training stage, and they are good at different aspects of imbalanced classification, one for dealing with highly imbalanced data sets and the other for moderately imbalanced data sets. Comparing with other state-of-the-art imbalance learning algorithms on imbalanced datasets, the experimental results show that these two methods have achieved excellent results in terms of G-mean and AUC measures, and more accurately identified the defective modules to reduce the cost of detection system.

The feeding method is of great significance for aquaculture production and cost. In recent years, research on intelligent feeding, a method based on fish appetite, has been trending. Few studies, however, have focused on fish welfare issues that can result from intelligent feeding. In this study, an adaptive feeder based on a practical intelligent feeding method was designed to evaluate whether this intelligent feeding method would impair fish welfare compared to traditional automatic feeding. The results indicated that the amount of residual feed and size inhomogeneity in the traditional group was significantly higher than that in the intelligent group. The results of the growth indicator showed that the weight gain rate (WGR) in the intelligent feeding group was significantly higher (30.17%) than in the traditional feeding group. Although no significant differences were observed in the survival rate (SR), the condition factor (CF) and the hepatosomatic index (HSI), the specific growth rate (SGR) in the intelligent feeding group was significantly increased by 8.33% while the feed conversion rate (FCR) was reduced by a remarkable 17.07% compared to the traditional feeding group. Moreover, intelligent feeding significantly improved the pepsin activity of the bass. In terms of immunity and antioxidant capacity, however, the fish in the intelligent feeding group had a significantly lower lysozyme (LZM) level than those fed with the traditional method. For superoxide dismutase (SOD), the intelligent group also displayed a lower activity value, although it was not significant. The intelligent feeding group had 0.14 nmol/mg protein higher malondialdehyde (MDA) activity than the traditional group. Regarding stress, although no statistical significance was observed, the cortisol level in the intelligent group was 1.9 ng/ml higher than in the traditional group. Together, these data suggested that the intelligent feeding method can significantly improve fish growth but may also result in stress and suppress innate immunity.
