Abstract: This work aims at constraining the size, shape, and geometric albedo of the dwarf planet candidate 2002 MS4 through the analysis of nine stellar occultation events. Using multichord detection, we also studied the object's topography by analyzing the obtained limb and the residuals between observed chords and the best-fitted ellipse. We predicted and organized the observational campaigns of nine stellar occultations by 2002 MS4 between 2019 and 2022, resulting in two single-chord events, four double-chord detections, and three events with three to up to sixty-one positive chords. Using 13 selected chords from the 8 August 2020 event, we determined the global elliptical limb of 2002 MS4. The best-fitted ellipse, combined with the object's rotational information from the literature, constrains the object's size, shape, and albedo. Additionally, we developed a new method to characterize topography features on the object's limb. The global limb has a semi-major axis of 412 $\pm$ 10 km, a semi-minor axis of 385 $\pm$ 17 km, and the position angle of the minor axis is 121 $^\circ$ $\pm$ 16$^\circ$. From this instantaneous limb, we obtained 2002 MS4's geometric albedo and the projected area-equivalent diameter. Significant deviations from the fitted ellipse in the northernmost limb are detected from multiple sites highlighting three distinct topographic features: one 11 km depth depression followed by a 25$^{+4}_{-5}$ km height elevation next to a crater-like depression with an extension of 322 $\pm$ 39 km and 45.1 $\pm$ 1.5 km deep. Our results present an object that is $\approx$138 km smaller in diameter than derived from thermal data, possibly indicating the presence of a so-far unknown satellite. However, within the error bars, the geometric albedo in the V-band agrees with the results published in the literature, even with the radiometric-derived albedo.

Abstract: Context. Pluto's tenuous nitrogen (N2) atmosphere undergoes strong seasonal effects due to high obliquity and orbital eccentricity, and has been recently (July 2015) observed by the New Horizons spacecraft. Goals are (i) construct a well calibrated record of the seasonal evolution of surface pressure on Pluto and (ii) constrain the structure of the lower atmosphere using a central flash observed in 2015. Method: eleven stellar occultations by Pluto observed between 2002 and 2016 are used to retrieve atmospheric profiles (density, pressure, temperature) between $\sim$5 km and $\sim$380 km altitude levels (i.e. pressures from about 10 microbar to 10 nanobar). Results: (i) Pressure has suffered a monotonic increase from 1988 to 2016, that is compared to a seasonal volatile transport model, from which tight constraints on a combination of albedo and emissivity of N2 ice are derived; (ii) A central flash observed on 2015 June 29 is consistent with New Horizons REX profiles, provided that (a) large diurnal temperature variations (not expected by current models) occur over Sputnik Planitia and/or (b) hazes with tangential optical depth of about 0.3 are present at 4-7 km altitude levels and/or (c) the nominal REX density values are overestimated by an implausibly large factor of about 20% and/or (d) higher terrains block part of the flash in the Charon facing hemisphere., Comment: 21 pages, 11 figures

Abstract: We present results derived from four stellar occultations by the plutino object (208996) 2003~AZ$_{84}$, detected at January 8, 2011 (single-chord event), February 3, 2012 (multi-chord), December 2, 2013 (single-chord) and November 15, 2014 (multi-chord). Our observations rule out an oblate spheroid solution for 2003~AZ$_{84}$'s shape. Instead, assuming hydrostatic equilibrium, we find that a Jacobi triaxial solution with semi axes $(470 \pm 20) \times (383 \pm 10) \times (245 \pm 8)$~km % axis ratios $b/a= 0.82 \pm 0.05$ and $c/a= 0.52 \pm 0.02$, can better account for all our occultation observations. Combining these dimensions with the rotation period of the body (6.75~h) and the amplitude of its rotation light curve, we derive a density $\rho=0.87 \pm 0.01$~g~cm$^{-3}$ a geometric albedo $p_V= 0.097 \pm 0.009$. A grazing chord observed during the 2014 occultation reveals a topographic feature along 2003~AZ$_{84}$'s limb, that can be interpreted as an abrupt chasm of width $\sim 23$~km and depth $> 8$~km or a smooth depression of width $\sim 80$~km and depth $\sim 13$~km (or an intermediate feature between those two extremes).

Abstract: Context. The physical characterization of trans-Neptunian objects is essential for improving our understanding of the formation and evolution of our Solar System. Stellar occultation is a ground-based technique that can be successfully used to determine some of the TNOs’ fundamental physical properties with high precision, such as size and shape. Aims. This work is aimed at constraining the size, shape, and geometric albedo of the dwarf planet candidate (307261) 2002 MS4 through the analysis of nine stellar occultation events. Using multichord detection, we also study the object’s topography by analyzing the obtained limb and residuals between the observed chords and the best-fit ellipse. Metods. We predicted and organized the observational campaigns of nine stellar occultations by 2002 MS4 between 2019 and 2022, resulting in two single-chord events, four double-chord detections, and three events with between 3 and 61 positive chords. We derived the occultation light curves using differential aperture photometry, from which the star ingress and egress instants were calculated. Using 13 selected chords from the 8 August 2020 event, we determined the global elliptical limb of 2002 MS4. The best-fit ellipse, combined with the object’s rotational information from the literature, sets constraints on the object’s size, shape, and albedo. Additionally, we developed a new method to characterize the topography features on the object’s limb. Results. The global limb has a semi-major axis of a′ = 412 ± 10 km, a semi-minor axis of b′= 385 ± 17 km, and the position angle of the minor axis is 121° ± 16°. From this instantaneous limb, we obtained 2002 MS4’s geometric albedo of pV = 0.1 ± 0.025, using HV = 3.63 ± 0.05 mag and a projected area-equivalent diameter of 796 ± 24 km. Abstract: Context. Pluto's tenuous nitrogen (N2) atmosphere undergoes strong seasonal effects due to high obliquity and orbital eccentricity, and has been recently (July 2015) observed by the New Horizons spacecraft. Goals are (i) construct a well calibrated record of the seasonal evolution of surface pressure on Pluto and (ii) constrain the structure of the lower atmosphere using a central flash observed in 2015. Method: eleven stellar occultations by Pluto observed between 2002 and 2016 are used to retrieve atmospheric profiles (density, pressure, temperature) between $\sim$5 km and $\sim$380 km altitude levels (i.e. pressures from about 10 microbar to 10 nanobar). Results: (i) Pressure has suffered a monotonic increase from 1988 to 2016, that is compared to a seasonal volatile transport model, from which tight constraints on a combination of albedo and emissivity of N2 ice are derived; (ii) A central flash observed on 2015 June 29 is consistent with New Horizons REX profiles, provided that (a) large diurnal temperature variations (not expected by current models) occur over Sputnik Planitia and/or (b) hazes with tangential optical depth of about 0.3 are present at 4-7 km altitude levels and/or (c) the nominal REX density values are overestimated by an implausibly large factor of about 20% and/or (d) higher terrains block part of the flash in the Charon facing hemisphere., 21 pages, 11 figures

Abstract: During the 2014-2015 mutual events season, the Institut de Mécanique Céleste et de Calcul des Éphémérides (IMCCE), Paris, France, and the Sternberg Astronomical Institute (SAI), Moscow, Russia, led an international observation campaign to record ground-based photometric observations of Galilean moon mutual occultations and eclipses.We focused on processing the complete photometric observations data base to compute new accurate astrometric positions. We used our method to derive astrometric positions from the light curves of the events. We developed an accurate photometric model of mutual occultations and eclipses, while correcting for the satellite albedos, Hapke's light scattering law, the phase effect, and the limb darkening. HOLISTEEC is an EU FP7 project whose objective is to first, formalize a new optimized building design methodology, and second, to develop the software platform and modules that implement that design methodology. The paper focuses on the developments made on that software infrastructure that shall at the end of the project provide a BIM-based collaborative platform supporting the optimization of the building design in terms of performances and also enhancing the building design process itself. As an important driver for that optimized methodology the project sets a focus on the consideration of interactions between the building and its neighborhood as well as multi-physical aspects including energy, acoustics, lighting and environmental impact.

Abstract: During the 2014–2015 mutual events season, the Institut de Mécanique Céleste et de Calcul des Éphémérides (IMCCE), Paris, France, and the Sternberg Astronomical Institute (SAI), Moscow, Russia, led an international observation campaign to record ground-based photometric observations of Galilean moon mutual occultations and eclipses. We focused on processing the complete photometric observations data base to compute new accurate astrometric positions. We used our method to derive astrometric positions from the light curves of the events. We developed an accurate photometric model of mutual occultations and eclipses, while correcting for the satellite albedos, Hapke's light scattering law, the phase effect, and the limb darkening. We processed 609 light curves, and we compared the observed positions of the satellites with the theoretical positions from IMCCE NOE-5-2010-GAL satellite ephemerides and INPOP13c planetary ephemeris. Abstract: Plavac mali and Zinfandel (syn. Primitivo) (Vitis vinifera L.) have previously been shown to be distinct cultivars but close relatives. They were analyzed, together with 33 cultivars from vineyards in the Croatian region of Dalmatia, at 16 to 25 microsatellite loci in order to further investigate their relationship to each other. Microsatellite alleles and subsequent likelihood analysis showed with a very high degree of probability that Plavac mali is the progeny of Zinfandel and Dobričić. The shoot tips of Plavac mali are similar to those of Zinfandel, while its mature leaves reflect the influence of both parents. All three have similar berry and cluster morphology. Zinfandel is earlier than Plavac mali and Dobričić with respect to both budbreak and fruit ripening. Many of the alleles present in Zinfandel and Dobričić are more common in the Croatian gene pool than in the general population of V. vinifera cultivars. This observation, together with our finding that four additional Croatian cultivars are closely related to Zinfandel, leads us to conclude that Zinfandel originated in Croatia. Vines of the cultivar Crljenak kaštelanski and Pribidrag, found in two different locations in Dalmatia in 2001 and 2002, respectively, were shown to match the microsatellite genotype of Zinfandel.

Abstract: Context. In 2009, the Sun and the Earth passed through the equatorial plane of Jupiter and therefore the orbital planes of its main satellites. It was the equinox on Jupiter. This occurrence made mutual occultations and eclipses between the satellites possible. Experience has shown that the observations of such events provide accurate astrometric data able to bring new information on the dynamics of the Galilean satellites. Observations are made under the form of photometric measurements, but need to be made through the organization of a worldwide observation campaign maximizing the number and the quality of the data obtained. Aims. This work focuses on processing the complete database of photometric observations of the mutual occultations and eclipses of the Galilean satellites of Jupiter made during the international campaign in 2009. The final goal is to derive new accurate astrometric data. Methods. We used an accurate photometric model of mutual events adequate with the accuracy of the observation. Our original method was applied to derive astrometric data from photometric observations of mutual occultations and eclipses of the Galilean satellites of Jupiter. Results. We processed the 457 lightcurves obtained during the international campaign of photometric observations of the Galilean satellites of Jupiter in 2009. Compared with the theory, for successful observations, the r.m.s. of O-C residuals are equal to 45.8 mas and 81.1 mas in right ascension and declination, respectively; the mean O-C residuals are equal to -2 mas and -9 mas in right ascension and declination, respectively, for mutual occultations; and -6 mas and +1 mas in right ascension and declination, respectively, for mutual eclipses. © ESO, 2014.

Abstract: Fourteen Croatian grape cultivars (Vitis vinifera L.) were analyzed at 25 polymorphic microsatellite loci and the alleles were analyzed for possible parent-progeny relationships. Alleles at 24 out of the 25 loci are consistent with Pošip bijeli (hermaphrodite) being the progeny of two other varieties, Zlatarica blatska bijeli and Bratkovina bijeli. A further search in a microsatellite database of over 300 cultivars revealed no other possible parents for Pošip. Likelihood analysis with observed allele frequencies indicated that the probability of the observed Pošip alleles is more than 1015 times higher for the presumptive parents than two random varieties and at least 300 times more likely than close relatives of the presumptive parents. The likelihoods were 1013 and at least 200, respectively, when the 95 % upper confidence limits of the allele frequencies were used in the analysis. Pošip and its presumptive parents have all been grown on the Dalmatian island of Korcula for many years, suggesting that this island is its origin. A comparison of representative groups of Croatian, Italian and Greek cultivars indicated that 11 out of the 13 Pošip alleles are more frequent in the Croatian gene pool than in the other two. Pošip and the two presumptive parental cultivars were characterized with 58 ampelographic and ampelometric descriptors. Pošip shares 50 out of the 58 characteristics with one or both of the parents and combines several desirable characteristics from both parents. Abstract: Vitis and non-Vitis spp. surrounding nine Napa Valley vineyards were surveyed for Grapevine leafroll-associated virus (GLRaV)-1 to -5 and -9, Grapevine virus A (GVA), Grapevine virus B (GVB), and Grapevine virus D (GVD). Vitis spp. from three riparian areas not adjacent to vineyards were also included. DNA fingerprinting and probability analyses indicated that the Vitis samples consisted primarily of Vitis californica followed by V. californica x V. vinifera hybrids. Single and mixed infections of GLRaV-2, -3, GVA, or GVB were detected by conventional or quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction in 6 of the 66 V. californica and 11 of the 19 V. californica x V vinifera hybrids. GLRaV-l, -4, -5, -9, and GVD were not detected. Phylogenetic analysis of GLRaV-2 and -3 partial coat protein gene nucleotide sequences indicated that the isolates from V californica and V. californica x V. vinifera hybrids were closely related to isolates from V. vinifera. 40. Transmission of Grapevine Red Blotch Virus by Spissistilus festinus [Say, 1830] (Hemiptera: Membracidae) between Free-Living Vines and Vitis vinifera 'Cabernet Franc'.

Abstract: Grapevine red blotch disease emerged within the past decade, disrupting North American vine stock production and vineyard profitability. Our understanding of how grapevine red blotch virus (GRBV), the causal agent of the disease, interacts with its Vitis hosts and insect vector, Spissistilus festinus , is limited. Here, we studied the capabilities of S. festinus to transmit GRBV from and to free-living vines, identified as first-generation hybrids of V. californica and V. vinifera 'Sauvignon blanc' (Vcal hybrids), and to and from V. vinifera 'Cabernet franc' (Vvin Cf) vines. The transmission rate of GRBV was high from infected Vcal hybrid vines to healthy Vcal hybrid vines (77%, 10 of 13) and from infected Vvin Cf vines to healthy Vcal hybrid vines (100%, 3 of 3). In contrast, the transmission rate of GRBV was low from infected Vcal hybrid vines to healthy Vvin Cf vines (15%, 2 of 13), and from infected Vvin Cf vines to healthy Vvin Cf vines (19%, 5 of 27). No association was found between transmission rates and GRBV titer in donor vines used in transmission assays, but the virus titer was higher in the recipient leaves of Vcal hybrid vines compared with recipient leaves of Vvin Cf vines. The transmission of GRBV from infected Vcal hybrid vines was also determined to be trans-stadial. Altogether, our findings revealed that free-living vines can be a source for the GRBV inoculum that is transmissible by S. festinus to other free-living vines and a wine grape cultivar, illustrating the interconnected roles of the two virus hosts in riparian areas and commercial vineyards, respectively, for virus spread. These new insights into red blotch disease epidemiology will inform the implementation of disease management strategies.

41. Identification of grapevine Pinot gris virus in free-living Vitis spp. located in riparian areas adjacent to commercial vineyards.

Abstract: Grapevine Pinot gris virus (GPGV) is a recently identified pathogen of grapevines in California. To advance our knowledge about the epidemiology of GPGV, we investigated if free-living Vitis spp. can represent a source of virus infection. In 2019 a field survey of GPGV infection was conducted in Napa County. During the inspection 60 free-living vines in riparian habitats near commercial vineyards with GPGV infection were sampled. Samples were tested by real-time reverse transcription PCR (RT-PCR), identifying 23 free-living Vitis spp. positive for GPGV. Later, GPGV infection was confirmed in these plants via end-point RT-PCR and Sanger sequencing. Based on sequence analysis, detected GPGV isolates are more related to the asymptomatic variant of the virus. Vitis species ancestry was determined by DNA fingerprinting. GPGV-infected material included V. californica, V. californica × V. vinifera hybrids and hybrid rootstock cultivars. Here, GPGV is reported for the first time in free-living Vitis spp. The results of this study will support the development of management strategies for GPGV in California and beyond.
