The city of Seville experienced a remarkable rise in the 16th century thanks to trade with America. Based on a report by the architect Hernán Ruiz, it was decided to renovate the gates of the walled city. The Puerta Real, also called Puerta de Goles, was remodelled between 1560 and 1566, and King Philip II entered through it in 1570. However, it was demolished around 1864, and only the remains of the adjacent wall stand today. This research aims to graphically analyse the gate and its immediate surroundings to gain a more profound knowledge of it and to promote its heritage value. To this end, an extensive collection and analysis of historical images has been carried out, which are essential for understanding the transformations of the site. A photograph by Masson (c. 1855–1860) was next used to support the virtual reconstruction of the gate. A 3D laser scanner was also used to document the existing archaeological remains and, via game-engine technology, to recreate rigorously, for the first time, this 16th-century gate in its current environment. This research could be useful for future scientific reconstruction to promote the heritage revitalisation of this city area.

Historically, the Vega Alta of the Guadalquivir River (southern Spain) has been an anthropized space. Over time, the dominance of latifundia agriculture has evolved towards more intensive citrus-based agriculture. In this study, wavelet algorithms applied to Sentinel-2 time series were used to determine both the expansion of citrus plantations and the level of intensification of these plantations within the municipality of Cantillana. Sentinel-2 provides comprehensive global coverage from March 2017 to the present. Our study applied a 90% power wavelet transformation for the creation of a wavelet-smoothed time series for four years of Sentinel-2 NDVI data. Based on the data, it can be stated that within our research region covering 5000 hectares of agricultural land, over a span of four years (2017 to 2020), more than 980 hectares of native vegetation and pasture were transformed into citrus orchards, giving rise, at the end of 2020, to a total area of 3250 ha. Analyzing unique spatial patterns within a wavelet-smoothed time series data is very useful for land management, as it allows land use changes to be controlled. For this reason, it becomes feasible to assess the reliability of the wavelet method using both remote sensing and GIS tools.

In some countries with seismicity, an adequate detection network is essential to assess seismic hazards. The Instituto Geográfico Nacional (National Geographic Institute/IGN) of Spain manages a strong motion network distributed throughout the whole country and an earthquake detection network composed of velocity stations. This paper aims at studying the development of the strong motion network of the Spanish National Seismic Network (focusing on mainland Spain and the Balearics) in the last three decades. A Geographic Information System (GIS) has been implemented to integrate the attributes from the IGN's database concerning the earthquake catalogue, seismograph and accelerometer networks, which enabled to analyse the data and map the distribution of detection equipments in the region. The irregularly distributed Spanish strong motion network was greatly expanded from 1990 to 2010. In the past decade, it developed at a slower rate, but more modern technology was implemented.

The historic centre of the Iraqi city of Al-Najaf embraces a seasonal pilgrimage to its holy sites that forces unusual urban conditions. This paper examines the impact of development projects and studies on the heritage integrity of the public (religious). This paper, therefore, recommends raising public awareness to adopt design approaches to face the overflow of visitors and the loss of heritage identity

El concepto de BIM implica un cambio radical en la manera de afrontar el diseño arquitectónico y el proceso de ciclo de vida del proyecto y del edificio. Se trata de un sistema eficiente y abierto de comunicación y cooperación entre los distintos operadores del proceso constructivo y, por tanto, idóneo para su implantación en las Escuelas Técnicas de Ingeniería y Arquitectura. Esta comunicación defiende el reconocimiento de la metodología BIM como instrumento de trabajo colaborativo y coordinado para su aplicación en la docencia, a fin de que el flujo de información interdisciplinar sea eficiente. Se describe la experiencia de la implantación de esta metodología en el Grado de Edificación, a través de un modelo de taller-integrador en la asignatura de Expresión Gráfica de Tecnologías. Posteriormente, se recogen experiencias docentes derivadas de la innovación desarrollada, que llevan a seguir apostando por esta integración tecnológica, para cuya mejora se aportan finalmente una serie de recomendaciones. Subsequently, educational enquiries derived from the innovation developed are collected, showing its benefits for the student body as regards learning, and also the limitations found. In conclusion, the outcomes obtained lead to continue supporting this technological integration. Finally, a series of recommendations for its improvement are provided, concerning the way to guide the students throughout the experience, and also related to the teaching organisation through the curriculum. Este artículo defiende el reconocimiento de la metodología BIM como instrumento de trabajo colaborativo y coordinado para su aplicación en la docencia universitaria en titulaciones de esta rama de conocimiento, a fin de que el flujo de información interdisciplinar sea eficiente. Se describe la experiencia de la implantación de esta metodología en el Grado de Edificación, a través de un modelo de taller-integrador en la asignatura de Expresión Gráfica de Tecnologías. Posteriormente, se recogen averiguaciones docentes derivadas de la innovación desarrollada, mostrando sus beneficios para el estudiantado a nivel de aprendizaje y las limitaciones halladas. Con todo, los resultados obtenidos llevan a seguir apostando por esta integración tecnológica. Finalmente, para la mejora de esta innovación, se aportan una serie de recomendaciones en lo relativo a la manera de guiar al alumnado en la experiencia y relacionadas con la organización de las enseñanzas a través de sus planes de estudios.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a collaborative system that has been fully developed in the design and management of industries involved in Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) sectors. There are, however, very few studies aimed at managing information models in the field of architectural and cultural heritage interventions. This research therefore proposes an innovative methodology of analysis and treatment of the information based on a representative 3D graphic model of the flooring and wall tiling of a historic building. The objective is to set up a model of graphic information which guarantees the interoperability of the aforementioned information amongst the diverse disciplines intervening in the conservation and restoration process. The Pavillion of Charles V, a Renaissancecharacterised building located in outdoor areas of the Alcazar of Seville, Spain, was selected for the study. This work constitutes a project of intervention based on Heritage or Historic Building Information Modelling, called the “HBIM Project”.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a globally adapted methodology by government organisations and builders who conceive the integration of the organisation, planning, development and the digital construction model into a single project. In the case of a heritage building, the Historic Building Information Modelling (HBIM) approach is able to cover the comprehensive restoration of the building. In contrast to BIM applied to new buildings, HBIM can address different models which represent either periods of historical interpretation, restoration phases or records of heritage assets over time. Great efforts are currently being made to automatically reconstitute the geometry of cultural heritage elements from data acquisition techniques such as Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) or Structure From Motion (SfM) into BIM (Scan-to-BIM). Hence, this work advances on the parametric modelling from remote sensing point cloud data, which is carried out under the Rhino+Grasshopper-ArchiCAD combination. This workflow enables the automatic conversion of TLS and SFM point cloud data into textured 3D meshes and thus BIM objects to be included in the HBIM project. The accuracy assessment of this workflow yields a standard deviation value of 68.28 pixels, which is lower than other author’s precision but suffices for the automatic HBIM of the case study in this research.

The south of Iberia conserves an important group of Palaeolithic rock art sites. The graphisms have been mostly attributed to the Solutrean and Magdalenian periods, while the possibility that older remains exist has provoked extensive debate. This circumstance has been linked to both the cited periods, until recently, due to the transition from the Middle to Upper Palaeolithic in the extreme southwest of Europe as well as the non-existence of some of the early periods of Palaeolithic art documented in northern Iberia. This study presents the results of interdisciplinary research conducted in Las Ventanas Cave. These results enabled us to identify a new Palaeolithic rock art site. The technical, stylistic and temporal traits point to certain similarities with the range of exterior deep engravings in Cantabrian Palaeolithic rock art. Ventanas appears to corroborate the age attributed to those kinds of graphic expression and points to the early arrival of the Upper Palaeolithic in the south of Iberia. Importantly, the results provide information on the pre-Solutrean date attributed to trilinear hind figures. These findings challenge the supposed Neanderthal survival idea at one of the main late Middle Palaeolithic southern Iberian sites (Carigüela) and, due to the parallels between them and an engraving attributed to this period in Gibraltar, it raises the possibility of interaction between modern humans and Neanderthals in the extreme southwest of Europe.

Terrestrial laser scanning is a widely used technology to digitise archaeological, architectural and cultural heritage. This allows for modelling the assets’ real condition in comparison with traditional data acquisition methods. This paper, based on the case study of the basilica in the Baelo Claudia archaeological ensemble (Tarifa, Spain), justifies the need of accurate heritage modelling against excessively simplified approaches in order to support structural safety analysis. To do this, after validating the 3D meshing process from point cloud data, the semi-automatic digital reconstitution of the basilica columns is performed. Next, a geometric analysis is conducted to calculate the structural alterations of the columns. In order to determine the structural performance, focusing both on the accuracy and suitability of the geometric models, static and modal analyses are carried out by means of the finite element method (FEM) on three different models for the most unfavourable column in terms of structural damage: (1) as-built (2) simplified and (3) ideal model without deformations. Finally, the outcomes show that the as-built modelling enhances the conservation status analysis of the 3D heritage city (in terms of realistic compliance factor values), although further automation still needs to be implemented in the modelling process.

Abstract Background The bacterium Vibrio cholerae causes diarrheal illness and can acquire genetic material leading to multiple drug resistance (MDR). Rapid detection of resistance-conferring mobile genetic elements helps avoid the prescription of ineffective antibiotics for specific strains. Colorimetric loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assays provide a rapid and cost-effective means for detection at point-of-care since they do not require specialized equipment, require limited expertise to perform, and can take less than 30 min to perform in resource limited regions. LAMP output is a color change that can be viewed by eye, but it can be difficult to design primer sets, determine target specificity, and interpret subjective color changes. Methods We developed an algorithm for the in silico design and evaluation of LAMP assays within the open-source PCR Signature Erosion Tool (PSET) and a computer vision application for the quantitative analysis of colorimetric outputs. First, Primer3 calculates LAMP primer sequence candidates with settings based on GC-content optimization. Next, PSET aligns the primer sequences of each assay against large sequence databases to calculate sufficient sequence similarity, coverage, and primer arrangement to the intended taxa, ultimately generating a confusion matrix. Finally, we tested assay candidates in the laboratory against synthetic constructs. Results As an example, we generated new LAMP assays targeting drug resistance in V. cholerae and evaluated existing ones from the literature based on in silico target specificity and in vitro testing. Improvements in the design and testing of LAMP assays, with heightened target specificity and a simple analysis platform, increase utility for in-field applications. Overall, 9 of the 16 tested LAMP assays had positive signal through visual and computer vision-based detection methods developed here. Here we show LAMP assays tested on synthetic AMR gene targets for aph(6), varG, floR, qnrVC5, and almG, which allow for resistance to aminoglycosides, penicillins, carbapenems, phenicols, fluoroquinolones, and polymyxins respectively.

Bartonella spp. are opportunistic, vectorborne bacteria that can cause disease in both animals and humans. We investigated the molecular occurrence of Bartonella spp. in 634 phlebotomine sand fly specimens, belonging to 44 different sand fly species, sampled during 2017–2021 in north and northeastern Brazil. We detected Bartonella sp. DNA in 8.7% (55/634) of the specimens by using a quantitative real-time PCR targeting the 16S-23S internal transcribed spacer intergenic region. Phylogenetic analysis positioned the Lutzomyia longipalpis sand fly–associated Bartonella gltA gene sequence in the same subclade as Bartonella ancashensis sequences and revealed a Bartonella sp. sequence in a Dampfomyia beltrani sand fly from Mexico. We amplified a bat-associated Bartonella nuoG sequence from a specimen of Nyssomyia antunesi sand fly. Our findings document the presence of Bartonella DNA in sand flies from Brazil, suggesting possible involvement of these insects in the epidemiologic cycle of Bartonella species.

This paper presents the, prototyping, and assembly process of a novel Heat Recovery Ventilation System (HRVS) in order to increase the indoor air quality (IAQ) without consumption energy. This HRVS plays the role of heat transfer between hot and cold air with high efficiency confirming thermal comfort. Out of careful prototyping and assembly techniques, an efficient HRVS unit have developed that can be introduced in residential buildings in a compact size. This paper discusses the 3D printing of the components, including heat exchangers and air distributer with PLA material. In addition, installing the fans and the control system to achieve comfort behaviour ventilation without energy cost. Moreover, the performance of the HRVS will be tested in order to assess the real-world environments.

Conflict of interest: No Introduction and Objectives: Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) represents the cause in 5-6% of the total amount of liver transplant in Brazilian centers. Factors that impact post-transplant outcomes are not well known. Data from the European registry show an overall survival of 79,4% post AIH liver transplant whereas Latin American numbers are scarce. The aim of this study is to evaluate long-term patient and graft survival after liver transplant due to AIH. Patients / Materials and Methods: This is a retrospective and observational study that included 85 patients with AIH who received liver transplant at a reference center in Brazil, from 1996 to 2023. Demographic data was collected, and survival curves were performed using the Kaplan-Meier method. Results and Discussion: Most of the cohort was composed of white (52,9%) females (71,8%). The median age at transplant timepoint was 27 years, ranging from 11 to 73 years. After LT 15,5% experienced graft lost, with the need of a second or third liver transplant. During the follow-up 32,9% of the patients died, with a mean survival time of 17.5 years (±1.4). The overall survival in 5 years was approximately 80%. There was no difference in survival between males and females. Conversely, patients who were submitted to more than one liver transplant had a poorer overall survival. (Fig.1). Conclusions: Preliminary results show a good overall post-transplant survival for AIH, which is in compass with international reports. The necessity of retransplant conveys a worse prognosis. Other features that might impact overall and graft survival are to be further evaluated in this cohort.

Background: National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated cancer centers are entrusted with assessing the cancer burden within their catchment areas and using this information to guide research and outreach efforts. Data visualizations, like Cancer InFocus, have emerged as essential tools for facilitating this effort. Integrating clinical trial accrual data can further enhance our understanding of the catchment area. However, these data must be de-identified in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This study introduces a de-identification method through geographic aggregation, ensuring HIPAA compliance and enabling comprehensive catchment area surveillance.Methods: Home addresses of patients enrolled in clinical trials at an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center were geocoded to census tracts. Tracts with less than 20 accruals were merged using the R geographic aggregation tool. A risk assessment was conducted to ensure low re-identification risk. Accrual rates were calculated and integrated into Cancer InFocus.Results: Successful aggregation exceeded the 20-patient threshold for all merged tracts with low re-identification risk. Disparities between clinical trial accruals and social determinants of health were identified.Discussion: The geographic aggregation method, compliant with HIPAA standards and integrated with Cancer InFocus, can enhance catchment area surveillance, furthering cancer research and outreach by pinpointing area-specific needs.

Background and Aim: Although reverse zoonotic transmission events from humans to domestic cats have been described, there is currently little evidence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) circulation in stray cats. Due to the evidence of natural and experimental infections in cats and the capacity to disseminate the virus among them, this study aimed to identify the SARS-CoV-2 antigen in stray cats from the Federal University of Sergipe in Brazil. Materials and Methods: One hundred twenty six stray cats from the university were screened for SARS-CoV-2 antigens by random sampling. Throat swab samples were tested for the virus using rapid antigen detection tests. Results: Of the 126 animals tested, 30 (23.60%) were positive for SARS-CoV-2 antigens. To our knowledge, for the first time, this study detected the SARS-CoV-2 antigen in stray cats and confirmed the presence of SARS-CoV-2 infections in Brazil’s stray cat population. Conclusion: The detection of SARS-CoV-2 in stray cats poses a risk for infected and healthy animals and possibly for humans who attend the university daily. As a limitation of the study, the small sample size necessitates caution when interpreting the results. This underscores the need for further research in this area to help control diseases in stray animals during potential pandemics. This highlights the need for monitoring and controlling the spread of the virus in stray animal populations.

La Psicogerontología Clínica representa en la actualidad un campo de estudio novedoso e interdisciplinario donde convergen la gerontología como ciencia y la psicología clínica en su carácter de disciplina. Esto se debe, a que en la formación del psicogerontólogo clínico se contempla el conocimiento exhaustivo de las ciencias del envejecimiento y los conocimientos teóricos, metodológicos y prácticos de las técnicas de abordaje psicoterapéutico visualizados desde una corriente neuropsicológica, cognitivo – conductual, psicoanalítica y de cuidados paliativos.

The collective action of MOCAO, Movimiento en resistencia contra las agresiones oculares del ESMAD (Escuadrón Móvil Antidisturbios) is presented as a social strategy to demand access to justice and the fulfilment of guarantees of reparation and non-repetition in Colombia. A brief account is given of significant events in our trajectory as a social movement, together with our letter of petitions to the national government as victims and survivors of ocular aggressions in the framework of police violence. Although ESMAD today has been reformed under the name of the Unit for Dialogue and Maintenance of Order (UNDMO), we consider that there have not yet been structural changes to ensure that its function is related to protecting the constitutional right to social protest.

Phosphorus input into surface water is a global concern due to its role in eutrophication, which is especially critical in semi-arid regions with their challenging climatic conditions. This study evaluated the best model for estimating the phosphorus decay coefficient (k) in semi-arid lakes, using flows from the Soil Moisture Accounting Procedure (SMAP), model of Génie Rural à 4 paramètres Journalier (GR4J), and reverse water balance hydrological models. Conducted at the Orós reservoir with 37 sampling campaigns from 2008 to 2017, it compared decay rates for temperate, tropical, and semi-arid climates. Some analyses also used phosphorus concentrations measured at the reservoir inlet. Model efficiency was assessed with bias, mean relative error, mean squared error, root mean squared error, and standard deviation. from the best models, water quality classes were classified based on phosphorus concentrations with the use of a confusion matrix to calculate accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score. The findings demonstrated that the decay rate tailored for semi-arid regions, when combined with GR4J flow data, offered the highest accuracy in estimating phosphorus concentrations (bias = 0.0012, RMSE = 0.0326, EMR = 60.6134, STD = 0.0312). In contrast, the decay rate calibrated for tropical conditions with SMAP-derived flows proved superior for classifying water quality categories (classes defined by CONAMA Resolution 357/05). Therefore, the GR4J model for semi-arid conditions stands out for concentration estimation, while the tropical decay rate with SMAP flows is preferable for effective classification of water quality status.

Abstract The Amblyomma genus (Arachnida: Ixodidae) is widely distributed in South America, with 34 species occurring in Brazil. Amblyomma nodosum Neumann 1889 is a species that predominantly feeds on Passeriformes during immature stages (larvae and nymphs) and anteaters (Myrmecophagidae) during adult stages. The aim of the present study is to report, for the first time, an unusual case of parasitism by adults of A. nodosum on a yellow cururu toad (Rhinella icterica) captured in the city of Nossa Senhora da Glória, Sergipe state (Northeastern Brazil) in the Caatinga biome, and also investigate the presence of DNA of Rickettsia in the collected material. DNA was extracted from all specimens collected (N=8) and subjected to PCR assays based on the tick 16S rRNA endogenous gene and gltA gene for Rickettsia sp. All samples (8/8; 100%) were positive for the 16S rRNA endogenous gene and two amplicons (obtained from one male and one female) were purified and sequenced. The BLASTn analysis of the sequences revealed a high degree of similarity (95-100%) with A. nodosum sequences previously deposited on GenBank, while the phylogenetic analysis clustered the sequences obtained in the same clade as A. nodosum sequences from Brazil.

Introduction: Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin used by the body for bone development and maintenance through the increased absorption of calcium, magnesium, and phosphate. Vitamin D deficiency, or insufficiency, has been identified as a global problem that affects at least one billion people worldwide. The presence of muscle weakness, falls, and fractures associated with vitamin D deficiency is frequent in the elderly; however, its impact on young people is little known. Clinical Case: We present the case of a 34-year-old male with no sun exposure and a history of consuming alcoholic beverages, presenting with progressive muscle weakness and a non-traumatic bilateral humeral fracture associated with vitamin D deficiency. We also describe the diagnostic-therapeutic approach as well as review the literature and its current importance. Conclusions: Vitamin D deficiency is common and often unrecognized, yet it can play an important role in exacerbating underlying pathologies, especially in vulnerable populations. Proximal humerus fractures are common among elderly patients, but not in young people, and less in the absence of trauma. In low-energy fractures without obvious traumatic mechanisms, greater prevalence has been observed in patients with low vitamin levels.

IntroductionDuring pneumoperitoneum (PNP), airway driving pressure (ΔPRS) increases due to the stiffness of the chest wall and cephalic shift of the diaphragm, which favors atelectasis. In addition, depending on the mechanical power (MP) formulas, they may lead to different interpretations.MethodsPatients >18 years of age with body mass index >35 kg/m2 were included in a single-center randomized controlled trial during their admission for bariatric surgery by abdominal laparoscopy. Intra-abdominal pressure was set at 15 mmHg at the pneumoperitoneum time point (PNP). After the recruitment maneuver, the lowest respiratory system elastance (ERS) was detected during the positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) step-wise decrement. Patients were randomized to the 1) CTRL group: ventilated with PEEP of 5 cmH2O and 2) PEEPIND group: ventilated with PEEP value associated with ERS that is 5% higher than its lowest level. Respiratory system mechanics and mean arterial pressure (MAP) were assessed at the PNP, 5 min after randomization (T1), and at the end of the ventilation protocol (T2); arterial blood gas was assessed at PNP and T2. ΔPRS was the primary outcome. Three MP formulas were used: MPA, which computes static PEEP × volume, elastic, and resistive components; MPB, which computes only the elastic component; and MPC, which computes static PEEP × volume, elastic, and resistive components without inspiratory holds.ResultsTwenty-eight patients were assessed for eligibility: eight were not included and 20 patients were randomized and allocated to CTRL and PEEPIND groups (n = 10/group). The PEEPIND ventilator strategy reduced ΔPRS when compared with the CTRL group (PEEPIND, 13 ± 2 cmH2O; CTRL, 22 ± 4 cmH2O; p < 0.001). Oxygenation improved in the PEEPIND group when compared with the CTRL group (p = 0.029), whereas MAP was comparable between the PEEPIND and CTRL groups. At the end of surgery, MPA and MPB were correlated in both the CTRL (rho = 0.71, p = 0.019) and PEEPIND (rho = 0.84, p = 0.020) groups but showed different bias (CTRL, −1.9 J/min; PEEPIND, +10.0 J/min). At the end of the surgery, MPA and MPC were correlated in both the CTRL (rho = 0.71, p = 0.019) and PEEPIND (rho = 0.84, p = 0.020) groups but showed different bias (CTRL, −1.9 J/min; PEEPIND, +10.0 J/min).ConclusionIndividualized PEEP was associated with a reduction in ΔPRS and an improvement in oxygenation with comparable MAP.
