Introduction: English publications have been found to be more widely cited than publications in other languages leading to a higher impact in various fields. Many authors have thus focused on publishing in English so as to reach the largest audience possible, however, important non-English publications remain a vital part of the peer-reviewed literature. This study sought to understand the relative quantities of pediatric orthopaedic publications written in the top 10 languages published in PubMed. Methods: The 10 languages with the most publications in PubMed were analyzed. These included English, German, Chinese, French, Russian, Japanese, Spanish, Polish, Italian, and Portuguese. All publications in orthopaedics and pediatric orthopaedics were pulled for each language. Publication rates were analyzed by individual language and by English versus non-English. Results: A total of 522,099 publications were analyzed between 1960-2020. English publications accounted for 93.1% of all orthopaedic publications and 91.4% of pediatric orthopaedic publications. When analyzing by individual language, German, French, and Chinese accounted for the greatest number of non-English publications with 24.9%, 21.2%, and 20.0% of non-English pediatric orthopaedic publications, respectively. Conclusion: In the 10 languages analyzed in this study, 8.6% of pediatric orthopaedic publications were written in non-English languages. When performing systematic reviews, care should be taken to assess literature published in these languages, specifically German, French, and Chinese, as they account for the greatest number of non-English publications. This will ensure that no relevant constituent studies are missed in qualitative syntheses due to lack of translation or access.

Objectives: Rates of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in the pediatric population have increased in the last 20 years. While many risk factors have been investigated, to the authors knowledge no study has analyzed the difference in the posterior femoral condyles in patients who have sustained ACL rupture. Therefore, this case control study sought to understand the relationship between the medial and lateral posterior condyles, as well as examining distal femoral version. The authors hypothesized that pediatric patients who suffered ACL rupture will have a relatively larger medial posterior femoral condyle leading to increase structural valgus in flexion. Methods: Pediatric patients with a pre-operative knee MRI who underwent ACL reconstruction between February 2016 and June 2020 at a tertiary orthopedic hospital were collected. Cases were matched to controls based on sex, laterality of injury, and age at imaging within 1.5 years. Medial and lateral posterior condylar height was measured for each participant. Condylar difference was calculated as medial posterior condylar height minus lateral posterior condylar height. The distal femoral version was calculated as the angle between the femoral posterior cortical axis and the posterior condylar axis. Mann-Whitney U tests were used to compare continuous variables. Significance was set as a p≤0.05. Results: A total of 72 participants were included in this analysis - 36 cases and 36 controls. Median age was 13.5 ± 3.3 years for all participants. Condylar difference was noted to be 1.8 mm greater in cases than controls (p=0.038), while distal femoral version was noted to be 2.0° greater in cases than controls (p=0.025). Conclusions: This study demonstrated a significantly greater posterior condylar height difference and distal femoral version among pediatric patients who suffered ACL rupture compared to a matched control group. Background In the post-GWAS era, there is an unmet need to decode the underpinning genetic etiologies of late-onset Alzheimer’s disease (LOAD) and translate the associations to causation. Methods We conducted ATAC-seq profiling using NeuN sorted-nuclei from 40 frozen brain tissues to determine LOAD-specific changes in chromatin accessibility landscape in a cell-type specific manner. Results We identified 211 LOAD-specific differential chromatin accessibility sites in neuronal-nuclei, four of which overlapped with LOAD-GWAS regions (±100 kb of SNP). While the non-neuronal nuclei did not show LOAD-specific differences, stratification by sex identified 842 LOAD-specific chromatin accessibility sites in females. Seven of these sex-dependent sites in the non-neuronal samples overlapped LOAD-GWAS regions including APOE. LOAD loci were functionally validated using single-nuclei RNA-seq datasets. Conclusions Using brain sorted-nuclei enabled the identification of sex-dependent cell type-specific LOAD alterations in chromatin structure. These findings enhance the interpretation of LOAD-GWAS discoveries, provide potential pathomechanisms, and suggest novel LOAD-loci. Graphical Abstract
