Due to rapid growth in wireless communication technology, higher bandwidth requirement for advance telecommunication systems, capable of operating on two or higher bands with higher channel capacities and minimum distortion losses is desired. In this paper, a compact Ultra-Wideband (UWB) V-shaped monopole antenna is presented. UWB response is achieved by modifying the ground plane with Chichen Itzia inspired rectangular staircase shape. The proposed V-shaped is designed by incorporating a rectangle, and an inverted isosceles triangle using FR4 substrate. The size of the antenna is 25 mm×26 mm×1.6 mm. The proposed V-shaped monopole antenna produces bandwidth response of 3 GHz Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM), Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX), (IEEE 802.11/HIPERLAN band, 5G sub 6 GHz) which with an additional square cut amplified the bandwidth response up to 8 GHz ranging from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz attaining UWB defined by Federal Communications Commission (FCC) with a maximum gain of 3.83 dB. The antenna is designed in Ansys HFSS. Results for key performance parameters of the antenna are presented. The measured results are in good agreement with the simulated results. Due to flat gain, uniform group delay, omni directional radiation pattern characteristics and well-matched impedance, the proposed antenna is suitable for WiMAX, ISM and heterogeneous wireless systems.

In this paper, a low cost, highly efficient and low profile monopole antenna for ultra-wideband (UWB) applications is presented. A new inverted triangular-shape structure possessing meander lines is designed to achieve a wideband response and high efficiency. To design the proposed structure, three steps are utilized to achieve an UWB response. The bandwidth of the proposed antenna is improved with changing meander lines parameters, miniaturization of the ground width and optimization of the feeding line. The measured and simulated frequency band ranges from 3.2 to 12 GHz, while the radiation patterns are measured at 4, 5.3, 6 and 8 GHz frequency bands. The overall volume of the proposed antenna is 26 × 25 × 1.6 mm3 ; whereas the FR4 material is used as a substrate with a relative permittivity and loss tangent of 4.3 and 0.025, correspondingly. The peak gain of 4 dB is achieved with a radiation efficiency of 80 to 98% for the entire wideband. Design modelling of proposed antenna is performed in ANSYS HFSS 13 software. This article belongs to the Special Issue Antennas for Wearable and Implantable Applications This paper presents a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna system for millimeter-wave 5G wireless communication services. The proposed MIMO configuration is composed of four antenna elements, where each antenna possesses an HP-shaped configuration that features simple configuration and excellent performance. The proposed MIMO design can operate at a very wide-band of 36.83-40.0 GHz (measured). Furthermore, the proposed MIMO antenna attains a peak gain of 6.5 dB with a maximum element-isolation of -45 dB. Apart from this, the MIMO performance metrics such as envelope correlation coefficient (ECC), diversity gain, and channel capacity (CCL) are analyzed, which demonstrate good characteristics across the operating band. The proposed antenna radiates efficiently with a radiation efficiency of above 80% at the desired frequency band which makes it a potential contender for the upcoming communication applications. The proposed design simulations were performed in the computer simulation technology (CST) software, and measured results reveal good agreement with the simulated one.

The aim of this work is to propose a dual band millimeter wave (mmwave) MIMO antenna system for 5G technology. In addition, the arrangement of the antenna elements in an array should be in such a manner that without using the traditional decoupling structures and/or techniques, a reasonable isolation level must be achieved. To demonstrate this, a system consists of four radiating elements that are etched on a 0.508 mm-thick Rogers-5880 substrate. The dielectric constant of the substrate is 2.2 and the loss tangent is 0.0009. Each radiating element consists of three parts, an E-shaped patch, an H-shaped slot within a patch, and a transmission line. The system is resonating at two different mmwave frequencies, i.e., 28 GHz and 38 GHz with a minimum port isolation of 28 dB. The mean measured gain is found to be at 7.1 dBi at 28 GHz and 7.9 dBi at 38 GHz with average efficiency, and envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) of the system at 70%, and 0.0005 respectively. The proposed system is designed and simulated in a full-wave electromagnetic wave software Computer Simulation Technology (CST), fabricated using LPKF D104 milling machine, and measured using R&amp, SZNA67 vector network analyzer. An excellent agreement is observed between the simulated and the measured results and a detailed comparison with the previous works is also presented. Due to attributes such as low-cost, easy to fabricate, and dual-band, it is believed that this system will find its application for future 5G systems.

This paper presents the design and specific absorption rate (SAR) analysis of the dual band antenna array for the future fifth generation (5G) mobile communication. The proposed antenna array operates in the Ka-band, at 28 and 38 GHz frequency bands. Roggers-5880 is used as a substrate having relative permittivity, thickness and loss tangent of 2.2, 0.254 mm and 0.0009 respectively in the proposed antenna array design. The main lobe gain of the single element 5G antenna is 7.71 and 7.73 dB at 28 and 38 GHz resonance frequencies correspondingly. As the gain requirement for 5G mobile communication system is 12 dB, thus 2 × 2 and 1 × 4 antenna arrays are designed to achieve the desired gain. The 2 × 2 antenna array yields a bore side gain of 12.3 and 15 dB, while 1 × 4 antenna array gives a bore side gain of 12.5 and 12.1 dB at 28 at 38 GHz frequency bands correspondingly. This work presents the design and Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) investigation of Fifth Generation (5G) antenna for future mobile communication networks. The radiating patch is made up of copper material backed by a 0.254 mm thicker Roggers-5880 substrate (N9000 PTFE) having relative permittivity and loss tangent of 22x10-1 and 9x10-4, correspondingly. The antenna resonates at 23 GHz frequency band. The major lobe gain of the single component 5G antenna is 7.16 dB.To meet the gain requirements of 5G mobile communication systems, 1 x 4 element array antenna has been proposed which increases the bore side gain up to 12.6 dB at the desired frequency. To address atmospheric attenuation and path loss issues in the mmwave portion of the spectrum, high gain and narrow beam antenna systems are essential for the next generation communication networks. This paper presents a novel hook-shaped antenna array for 28 GHz 5G mmwave applications. The proposed antenna was fabricated on commercially available Rogers 5880 substrate with thickness of 0.508 mm and dimensions of 10 × 8 mm2. The proposed shape consists of a circle with an arc-shaped slot on top of it and T-shaped resonating lengths are introduced in order to attain broad band characteristics having gain of 3.59 dBi with radiation and total efficiency of 92% and 86% for single element. The proposed structure is transformed into a four-element array with total size of 26.9 × 18.5 mm2 in order to increase the gain up to 10.3 dBi at desired frequency of interest. The four-element array is designed such that it exhibits dual-beam response over the entire band of interest and the simulated results agree with fabricated prototype measurements. The proposed antenna array, because of its robustness, high gain, and dual-beam characteristics can be considered as a potential candidate for the next generation 5G communication systems.

This paper presents the design and performance evaluation of multiband metamaterial based antenna operating in the 3.6 GHz (4G), 14.33 GHz, and 28.86 GHz (5G) frequency bands, for future mobile and handheld devices. The radiating element of the proposed design is made up of a conductive material supported by a 1.524 mm thicker Rogers-4003 substrate, having a relative dielectric constant and loss tangent of 3.55 and 0.0027, respectively. The substrate is backed by truncated ground plane. The future mobile communication system is based on higher frequencies, which are highly affected by the atmospheric conditions. Therefore, to overcome the path loss problem, essential enhancements and improvements must be made in the overall performance of the antenna. The traditional ground plane does not provide the in-phase reflection and surface wave suppression due to which side and back lobes are produced. This will affect the antenna performance in terms of gain and efficiency. To enhance the overall performance of the antenna, a metamaterial acting as a high impedance surface (HIS) is used as a reflector in the proposed design. The simulated gain of the metamaterial based antenna is enhanced from {2.76-6.47, 4.83-6.71 and 7.52-7.73} dB at 3.6, 14.33 and 28.89 GHz, respectively relative to the gain of the antenna backed by a traditional ground plane. The proposed antenna radiated efficiently with a radiated efficiency (>85 %) in all the three frequency bands with and without metamaterial surface. The total volume of the antenna is (L x W x h=45 x 40 x 1.524) mm3. The antenna can be potentially used for wireless handheld devices and mobile terminal.
